Babe and Charlie’s reunion
I know a lot of people have advocated domestic violence… oh wait, you don’t think Babe beating Charlie is DV oh… okay…. *scowls in sarcasm*
Anyway, I know a lot of people want Babe to be exceedingly angry at Charlie, and to not forgive him for what he’s done. But that reaction would go against Babe’s character.
Charlie has become literally and figuratively everything for Babe.
Unconditional support, unconditional love, a person who never stopped trying to care for Babe regardless of how Babe treated him.
Because remember, Babe was an asshole early on to Charlie. Getting jealous without asking questions. Accusing him without asking questions. Saying means things, being harsh. (And yes, this was mostly Way’s influence).
Yet regardless of that, Charlie stayed. Because Charlie’s only (internal and personal) purpose in life is to protect and care for Babe.
Now Babe might not like that. He might not like how willing Charlie is to sacrifice himself. He might want it to be more balanced or more nuanced, but regardless, Charlie’s only purpose is to protect and care for Babe.
And Babe knows this - he knows how he’s treated Charlie - he knows that he overreacted just before the accident.
And Babe regrets it. He regrets how he acted and the things he said, he regretted them the moment the accident happened. And worse, he’s lived in that regret for at least a couple weeks.
For Babe any anger he might feel towards Charlie, will easily going to be overshadowed by the sheer feelings of gratefulness, wonder, disbelief, affection, and hope. he is not going to care much about the event and solely focus on having Charlie back and Charlie’s safety.
I think that’s why in the preview we saw him protect Charlie three times - in like 15-30, he protected Charlie multiple times in that clip.
Babe is not the same person he was before Charlie’s accident. The person he is now, recognizes how fleeting life is, and how important Charlie is to him. He is going to live the rest of his life, making sure Charlie knows that. And it’s going to start the second they are reunited.

by the power of modern day AU, I am delighted to announce that Fulj can have a girlfriend ! I haven't named her yet but have a few in mind so ... soon (TM). She is the one that she loved in canon before the whole memory wipe and as you can see, penchant for black, black hair, brown eyes, and prone to weird statements. Perfect balance to Deacon's weird questions.
HOWEVER ! I mentioned the problem of Deacon still having facial blindness to someone and how there is no glow from the deities for him to identify them. And her solution is the funniest thing ever so I have to do it. He identifies people by smell. So when he is in the same room as Ymber and Oh when they first cross paths, he doesn't really think about it. But later when he sees Ymber alone and gets the same kinda scent, same cologne or something, he knows that's not the taller guy therefore that's his scent ! Perfect!
So... unfortunately.... Deacon really can't beat the weirdness allegations in AUs...... he's stuck like that. Fulj has referred to him as a guard dog in canon and now he's a tracking dog. RIP to him.
(and because Deacon gets my facial blindness I am giving Fulj's girlfriend ANOTHER trait of mine I wouldn't wish on anyone because it's also really funny. She can't smell. She can taste ! She just can't smell. So she loves talking to Deacon because he explains smells as foods for her to get the vibe across. Which are REALLY weird conversations no one else wants to hear.)

Guys, I solved Ryoken
He doesn't actually hate the Ignis.
He hates that his dad cared more about them than him.
Think about it, he has valid reasons to think that, like when his dad says this shit in response to Ryoken asking him if killing all the Ignis hurts:
To his face, he's told that his death would hurt his father just as much as the Ignis's deaths would yet later, or perhaps before this scene, his father also told him that if all else fails, he should start up the Tower of Hanoi and kill himself and everyone he cares about to destroy the Ignis. So in an indrect way, what he actually says, to his own fucking son, is that Ryoken's death means even less to him than the Ignis's deaths.
Not to mention the fact that Ryoken spent years of his life up to this point being neglected by his father in favour of the Ignis. Six months of that was him torturing children, which 8 year old Ryoken witnessed. Reporting it put his father in jail for three years:
Then he immediately dies after being released from prison and reveals that during his time there, he finished creating the Ignis:
So to find out a mere two years after this that the Ignis he created were, from their point of view, definitely gonna rise up and kill all of humanity, probably pissed him off. He's been neglected for at least five years in favour of these Ignis. It's not directly stated but honestly, the fact that he was willing to go along with the Tower of Hanoi, and that even after his father is gone, he still clings to his words and beliefs, makes me very certain that Ryoken was neglected and emotionally/psychologically abused.
That I think is the true reason why he hates the Ignis. He doesn't realise it and that's why even after so many seemingly obvious loud signs throughout season 2 that his racist view of them was unjustified, he didn't change his mind. Or rather, he did:
Yeah, okay I go back and forth on this scene and I'm back to thinking it meant something when on the surface, it really does just feel like it was retconned by season 3, but HEAR ME OUT! For this one moment, when he thought he was dying, he did change his mind. He did let go of his bitterness and hate, if just for Ai since he knew Ai and Playmaker would have what it took to defeat Bohman and save humanity, since they'd done it before.
It was when he came back from being dead and the threat was gone that his stubborn pride and anger took over again. Not once did any of the constant "you're wrong" clues in season 2 ever get to the heart of the real issue. If anything, it's worse now. He's still obsessed with his father's legacy, he never got over that, and recently discovered that Lightning was the real murderer of his father. Of course he's spouting bullshit like this:
Even if he may deep down have been starting to think the Ignis may not be a threat anymore at this point (I don't know if I fully believe that, I'll have to rewatch season 3), he's not going to express that because that would mean his father was wrong, his father who put more attention into the Ignis than his own son. Besides, I wouldn't put it past Ryoken to lie through his teeth about his more vulnerable emotions at this point. After all, he said THIS while fighting for the fallen Hanoi:
Fucking liar.
Maybe all of this sounds too much like headcanon or tin foil hat territory but honestly it makes more sense to me than any other interpretation I've personally had about Ryoken. It genuinely answers so many of the frustrating questions I've had for... a year now, good lord that I'm adopting this as headcanon even if everyone disagrees.
Still doesn't justify how Duel Links wrote him in his event though.
It does make me forgive season 3 just a little bit though, I don't know, I haven't rewatched it yet. I'll update this if something I rewatch in season 3 changes anything.

ok this is not exactly a rant but i've been thinking, as someone who writes, about the way that we female authors present our female characters because in the vast majority of the books I've read, they are mostly the means to an end and the end is a man.
like literally so many female characters have their own growth thrown to the wind and for what? to put a ring on it?
maybe is just not appealing to me as a reader but why can't growth and love coexist? why can't a power angry woman be loved when men are idolized through every shitty and downright abusive and toxic behavior known on god's green earth?
i want my cruel and vindictive and unhinged women to be loved like they hang the moon in the sky for the vile and cruel creatures that they are why do women need to be bite sized or worst need to be punished even if their cruelty is basically a survival instinct while the man can be everything they want regardless of why and how the math isn't mathing
