Also, while I'm speaking about Bansui, if you've ever wondered why he..... talks... like this, with.... all the pausing, disjointed sentences, and weird intonations, its because of laziness, full stop. Bansui literally cant be bothered to speak at a normal pace most times, but when he gets excited or is put in a very intense situation, he will start to speak with others in a more 'normal' manner.
Tumblr media
Also x2, if you've ever wondered why Bansui uses weird outdated western or vaguely Shakespearean terms/words like thou or thee etc etc, it's because his mother, who was from the Soul Society West Branch, spoke like that-- Bansui picked it up from her at an early age and it just... never went away, and now its just one of his many eccentricities.

These visits to the Soul Society had now become commonplace. When Tessai had first set foot within the Seireitei after such long absence, a thousand nameless emotions had gripped him. How could a place feel so familiar, yet so strange? The world he had known here with its old structures had been replaced, twice, in his absence, and though the institutions of Gotei, Onmitsukidō, Kidō Corps, and Central 46 still stood, they had been... revised. Reimagined. Some recent changes were welcome... but not all.
That the Kidō Corps had been conspicuously absent in the last war only played into his suspicions of the current administration, and thus he had engaged Ushōda Hachigen in the collaboration of equipping the good folk of the Soul Society with kidō goods useful both in daily life and in battle.
And now his path had led him here within the grounds of the Eleventh Division, where he'd hoped his mission to provision the troops would not prove to be a fool's errand. It had taken decades for his services even to be entertained here, but at long last, despite the bloodlust and zest for battle redolent in the air, and the captain's nonchalance and general dismissal regarding the benefits of kidō, he'd been granted a meeting with the fourth seat, one Okinaha Lyn. Very well; he had prepared his pitch accordingly, and had thus far found a surprisingly open-minded audience. There were no meeting-rooms nor long tables here, or if there were, they'd been long-forgotten or repurposed as storage rooms. Rather, the pair strolled together around the training field, in view of the daily exercises, as they talked.
Tumblr media
"I do understand the resistance to personal armor," he was saying to her. "But can you imagine any other benefit—defensive or offensive—that ready-made and easily-deployed kidō could lend to your company?"

[Hanakaidō] Malus halliana
花[Hana] : Flower
海棠[Kaidō] : Crabapple
This is from my garden. Somewhere in my heart, I seem to find melancholy beauty in these flowers in nodding figures, wet from the pre-dawn rain and illuminated by the morning sun. That one in the photo I took last year was also wet from the rain. Of course, I am not the only one who is attracted to the beauty that is somehow felt in them.
[Kaidō wa itsudemo ame wo matte iru hana de atta. Adeyaka na iro ni ippai no urei wo tamete, ue wo mukanaide, itsumo utsumuite, ame wo matte iru hana de atta.] Kaidō was always a flower waiting for rain. It was a flower waiting for the rain with its fascinating colors filled with melancholy, never looked up and always lying face down. From Zassō zatsugo by Kawai Kanjirō Source: https://www.aozora.gr.jp/cards/001906/files/58094_63079.html (ja)
[Sakari imijiki kaidō ni, sosogu mo omoshi haru no ame. Hana no urami ka yorokobi ka, towan to suredo tsuyu modashi, kikan to suredo hana iwazu. Yūbe shizuka ni kaze fukite, nagori no tsuyu wa harawarenu. kaze no nasake ka netami ni ka, towan to suredo tsuyu modashi, kikan to suredo hana iwazu.] On the flowers of Kaidō, which are now in full bloom, the spring rain is pouring heavily. Do the flowers resent or rejoice in it? I try to ask, but the dewdrops fall silent, and I try to listen, but the flowers say nothing. Wind blowed quietly in the evening, and the remnants dewdrops were swept away. Is it the wind's mercy or jealousy? I try to ask, but the dewdrops fall silent, and I try to listen, but the flowers say nothing. Although there are many more, I presented just two this time.

Vintage Song Covers: Kōjō no Tsuki (The Moon over the Ruined Castle)
youtube
This week's vocal synth cover is a quartet arrangement of Kōjō no Tsuki, a hauntingly beautiful Japanese song written in 1901 by Rentarō Taki (music) and Bansui Doi (lyrics) that I recently came across and thought would be a good song to try out SynthV Teto with as the lead vocal. The backup vocals are Mai, Kevin, and ASTERIAN.

Bansui: miracles, prophecy, and more.
Tumblr media
I: In the decade after the TYBW and the events of CFYOW, Bansui, or the 'religion' / 'prophecy' he preaches (his so called Great Ascension) has gathered quite a following outside the Kido Corps (though it is most strongly adhered to there), with there being many people in the districts of Rukongai and even some within the Seireitei who adhere.
This following isn't without good reason either, it stems from the public 'miracles' Bansui preforms and the 'revelations' he gives that are supposedly done through the 'power and grace of the Soul King', such as apparently raising spirits of the deceased and communicating with them, controlling Hollows, speaking of things he and no one else should otherwise know, predicting the future, and other amazing feats. A lot of these 'miracles' and 'revelations' can in actuality be attributed to high level Kido or Bansui's Zanpakuto or his Hollowfied nature and not the Soul King, but his actions are still enough to wow common folk and Shinigami alike.
Not to mention that some of the 'miracles' Bansui does or the 'revelations' he gives have no rational explanation outside of him potentially communing with or using the power of some higher being like the Soul King.
Tumblr media
II: In kind, there are many people, mostly within the Seireitei, that are suspicious or weary of these 'divinely inspired' things Bansui does and says, and even those who may feel threatened by his following outside the Kido Corps (typically the same groups or individuals who are already side eying his leadership of the Kido Corps in general).
There have been many attempts to discredit and at times condemn Bansui's supposedly 'divine' actions or declarations from individuals in the Nobility, Central 46, and the Gotei 13, but due to his status (head of a Great Noble House) and the support he still has within Central 46, he continues on undisturbed, and his following continues to grow.

Evening Star
The clouds are adrift and torn to rags / Around one star in the evening sky - / But though its radiance is shallow still / Its love is deep as ever in the sea of sky.
O, a sheperd in Chaldea / Saw you four thousand years ago - / And though your light is young for ever / Our world has now become so old.
Your sparkling light seems wet with dew - / Are you weeping for the men of earth? / Contentment in our world is far away, / Hidden by clouds of struggling anxiety and weariness.

Bishamon-dō: Autumn Hotspot in Kyoto City, Japan. Today's photoshoot at Bishamon-dō temple (毘沙門堂) in Yamashina, Kyoto City. This is the Bansui-en (晩翠園) garden pond. It is an early Edo period style garden with a waterfall. Inside the garden you'll find a Kameishi (tortoise stone), Chidori-ishi (Plover stone) and a Zazenseki (meditation stone). This pond has an inverted shape of a cursive style Chinese character meaning "mind".

The Moon over the Ruined Castle

Tumblr media
Tsu no Chū (medium)Meri
Lower your chin (meri) with the hole 1 open, or hold your ring finger over the hole 1.
What is Meri? → Blow by putting the chin down, to lower the tone
Ha no Go(5)
Open hole 5 and meri. Lower your chin deeper(Ô meri)
Ha no San(3)
Open holes 5 and 3. Do not meri.

The Moon over the Ruined Castle
Lyrics: DOI, Bansui
Music: TAKI, Rentaro
English Translation: YAMAGISHI, Katsuei (C)
On the castle tower in the spring, a cherry-blossom-viewing feast
Exchanging cups of sake, the moon dancing in each
Branches of pine trees shooting out, they've grown a thousand years
Where ever have the glorious old days gone?
On the battlefield campsite in the autumn, a cold layer of frost
Wild geese honking in flight, you can count them in the clear moonlight
The pine trees like swords stuck in the ground, the cold moonlight makes the shine
Where ever have the glorious old days gone?
Over the ruined castle at midnight, the bright moon shining
As ever it shined, for whom does the moon shine so bright?
Only vines on the castle wall, climbing up
Can you hear anything but the wind as it blows?
In the sky, past and present, the ever-lasting moon
Rising and falling, the ever-changing world
Is the moonlight telling us how the world goes?
Ah, the midnight moon over the ruined castle
...
