It's been 39 years since the release of Bathory's self-titled album, and it has left an everlasting mark on the world of extreme metal. With its raw and evil sound, it is considered one of the most influential metal albums in history. Forever wrapped in darkness, let us hail Quorthon and his masterful creation!

Photo by Jon Kristianen, from METALION: The Slayer Mag Diaries: “In September of 1986, Metallica came to Norway. I wouldn’t call it the first extreme metal show to happen in Norway, but it was certainly the first event of its kind. For the time, it really was exciting. I met up with Mayhem and what seemed like every other metalhead in Norway, again at Skedsmohallen sports arena. That was Cliff Burton’s second-to-last show... Two days later, on Saturday morning, my brother woke me to say: ‘That band you saw the other day, it was on the news that somebody died!’ I thought that was so strange. I didn’t meet Cliff; he wasn’t at the press conference or downstairs at the hotel. He didn’t appear to meet the people, and then he died two days later. Somehow to me his absence was connected to his death.”
