Reasons Why Bruce Wayne Refuses to Take a Break:

1. Why should he?

2. Because fuck you, that's why.

3. He's scared that if he ever actually stops to take a break, completely relax, and fully drop his guard, something horrible will happen to Gotham and/or the people he cares about and he won't be able to stop it because he wasn't prepared OR the years and years of burn out and physical/emotional pain will finally catch up to him (because he stopped running from it) and it'll hit him so hard that he'll finally have to face the trauma he endured as a child when he saw his parents die (which he is not physically capable of coping with, because the event fractured his identity into Batman, a man with childish morals and an inability to make exceptions [such as not killing a petty crook OR a mass murderer and thinking they should be dealt with the same way] and a childish sense of justice that cannot exist without him blocking out his trauma [so if he had to face that trauma his very identity would cease to exist]) therefore his mental health would be destroyed to such an extent that he'd be unable to even pretend he was alright, which in turn will make the people he cares about worry about him, and because he hates when people worry about him it'll cause him to lash out which will further isolate him from the world and from any form of human connection, leaving him sitting broken at an empty table in an empty mansion on an empty island just like he did when he was a mere, insignificant, hurt, orphaned eight year old who hadn't yet made his mark on the world-

the barbara and bruce dynamic is actually so funny to me like they're co-parenting a teenage girl together, babs is dating bruce's son, she's the daughter of one of the only people bruce actually trusts, they've been coworkers for years, and they just legitimately CANNOT stand each other. they're close with the same people, work together all the time, and yet literally every conversation they have in batgirl (2000) goes exactly like this:

barbara, just got back from a date with dick, picking up cass for her week of custody: hey cass it's nice to see you sweetie :) oh hi bruce.

bruce, returned from a (play)date with commissioner gordon, recently worked with dinah, babs's best friend in the world: barbara.

babs, unable to stop herself: how's it feel being a bitch all the time?

bruce, also unable to stop himself: i don't know, BARBARA, why don't you tell me?

Bruce on taskmaster.

Sure he’s not a comedian, but let’s just say that the network was struggling to find comedians that could fit taskmaster into their schedule idk. The batkids are fans of the show so when Bruce is like “what’s taskmaster and why are they asking me to participate?” They are like “YOU HAVE TO SAY YES!!”

Anyways, imagine the inner turmoil Bruce would be in. I hc him as very competitive, so he has to juggle being the ditzy playboy and actually wanting to win the competition. And the thing is he’s fucking good. Like as Batman he’s constantly thinking outside the box for villains like Riddler and Joker. He tries to downplay it but because he’s surrounded by heroes he kinda… forgets?

Like one time, he has to climb a tree for some reason, and he gets a good way up until he realizes… normal people can’t do that. So he has to fake falling down.

Also, for one of the prize tasks, they have to bring in an item that is precious to them. So Bruce brings in his mother’s pearl, complete with the evidence baggy. Greg is bewildered, the crowd is going crazy. “My back up was my children’s adoption papers.” Bruce says once everyone calms down.

There’s not a soul on that stage that is not absolutely terrified of Bruce Wayne from that point on.
