Today I found my blog that I used to write all my notes for a university course, and I had a bit of an eye-opener which I would like to write a full essay on but I will do that another time hehe.
Back in 2018, I had pretty much the same core values when it came to character designs and how characters, particularly female characters, should be expressed. What I didn't realise was that even though I had this hyper-awareness AND harsh judgment towards other artists, I still would seek inspiration from misogynistic sources (Pinterest is riddled by horrific, unrealistic images of 'girls next door' who are highly edited and live a harmful lifestyle for your enjoyment), and my characters were unable to be expressed without a 'break of the hip' or some form of reminder that they are Feminine and Sexual (without sexuality serving an inherent purpose like for example Aeon Flux or Poison Ivy, or being iconic like Bayonetta/Lara Croft...)
Just as Moira is my 'muse' today, Beatrix (or LA) used to be my muse back in 2018. Her premise is that she is a thrill seeking troublemaker, 'high stakes' player that would do anything to feel something, no matter the cost. Instead, I kept drawing her as a modelesque tomboy, I could not escape the mould that is constantly fed to me- thin waist, smooth body, defined legs, mannerisms. I was convinced on a subconscious level that the only way people would ever like her was if there was something to gaze in an approachable, sexualised way.
This realisation has lead me to believe that breaking out of this "sex sells" stereotype is very difficult to get away from. Even now drawing LA feels a bit odd, drawing her being ugly makes me legitimately uncomfortable. That saddens me... I get mad at myself.
^Here, on the revised version I don’t believe she’s ugly, but she’s more human. And the flaws of her lifestyle show a lot more than the first, freckle *kissed* interpretation.
Understanding that most of my followers are artists, I was wondering if you have related with this... I genuinely want to dig in more seriously on this topic because it's a part of my work that bothers me immensely- it's really easy to identify patterns but it's really difficult breaking away from them.

This is such a dumb headcannon of mine, but is Bayonetta Witch!Akira's mom? That would be so damn cool, and make so much sense! They both share the same weapons, magic, demons/familiars, glasses, kickass heels and a bunch of style! *Bayonetta also lived in the middle ages, so even the timelines could add up!*
why not
