At my last job, I had two other coworkers who were as into Always Sunny as I was, and it was great. One of them had a personal goal to work as many references into conversations with customers as possible. There was one particularly nasty interaction I had with a lady only known as Umbrella Lady who told me that my “smug aura was mocking her,” and my coworker was the first to pick up that that was Frank’s line about the German Shepherd painting lmao. We’ll never know if she was quoting the show or if it was a total coincidence (she didn’t seem like the type to watch it), but it became a running joke between my other coworker and his wife after that, he told me they say it to each other all the time now. 😂

This is my first time watching the show, I’m on the last episode of season 9 and I’ve loved it! My best friend tried watching the show well before me but always told me she couldn’t really get into it. Now that I’m watching it for myself, I’m like ?? What? You didn’t think it was funny?? (But she also doesn’t like Seinfeld, so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised lol).

Every now and then I’ll find Dayman getting stuck in my head, and I’m hoping that one day I’ll come across someone who also shares the knowledge of Fat Mac

omg Yes lol this is the ideal ask to receive....firstly so glad ur enjoying the fic. secondly, i am by no means an expert (classical music is not my...forte) but this is just stuff i like/i think most people enjoy/know...it's not an exhaustive list. it is probably impossible to make an exhaustive list!! lol but in all seriousness, if u end up wanting to get into classical music, just sticking on any classical radio station is usually a good way to go, BBC Radio 3 is EVERYTHING to me, shes v important<3 also, in terms of streaming services, most are honestly p rubbish when it comes to classical music but apple music have a 'classical' app which is like the only decent way to stream classical music without literally wanting to scream in confusion imo. so if u happen to have apple music it comes w ur subscription and is good! ok i hope this helps and once again glad ur enjoying da fic :)

Ever since the D&D game video dropped, Stranger Things’ corner of the internet remained a complete and utter mess. It graduated from the YouTube comments to damn near everywhere else. Wherever you turned on any social media app, there was a TikTok edit, a Twitter thread, a YouTube compilation, or a link to a Cosmo article, all about your moments with Joseph, which happened on camera. Things were already pretty hectic with the events and ships happening within the show, but when speculation grew of a romance happening outside of the show, well, the public took it and ran with it. 

Things between you and Joseph stayed relatively the same, platonically attached. It was as though millions of people weren’t talking about how ‘obviously into each other’ you two were, granted he even knew about that. Nothing changed for you personally, either. It wasn’t like you were unaware of your growing feelings for Joseph before people started noticing. Your racing heart and unstoppable smile whenever he laid a gentle hand on you, or was simply just around you, was enough of a giveaway to yourself.

One thing was for certain though, you weren’t going to say anything. You felt like you had done a pretty decent job keeping your feelings masked. You had a good, comfortable thing with Joseph going. You felt secure around him-content. Nothing should have to ruin that. Keeping quiet and convincing yourself he didn’t feel the way you did was the best option. Plus, dating co-stars was a big, fat ‘no’ in Hollywood. A somewhat outdated rule, sure, but you intended to adhere to it.

No matter how hard it was starting to become.

And you were reminded of just how hard it would be, by your current situation.

The two of you laid in your room in your Los Angeles apartment, Top Gun playing on the television across from your bed. Joseph was propped up against the quilted headboard, his arm securely around your body as your head laid on his chest. 10 minutes prior, he noticed you were nodding off and opened his arms in a wordless invitation-like always.

“You’re not mad this is putting me to sleep?” you had asked, halfway smirking. You burrowed your head into his plaid shirt, the smell of his cologne flooding your nose.

“Why would it?,” he asked, rubbing your shoulder soothingly. 

“Well, it was my idea to watch this movie,” you said. He had been begging you to go see Top Gun: Maverick with him since it came out, and you agreed, though you wanted to watch the original first. So, you made a night out of it, and about two hours prior, he showed up to your door with kettle corn and sour skittles, and you supplied the wine and pizza. 

He was particularly excited about the latter. Even if it had been a few years since he had to give up pizza to lose weight for Eddie, he still felt like he had to make up for all the lost pie. He immediately dug in, and you remembered swiping away some sauce from the side of his mouth with your thumb, which he had swiftly licked clean for you. 

That, you blamed on the wine.

“True,” he admitted, fingers crawling down to your rib cage, making you shiver a bit. “But I’m not going pass up on the opportunity to hold you,”

You couldn’t reply when he had said that, you just remained completely still and quiet. Though, the tingling in your cheeks at his words indicated that you were not as unbothered as you wanted to seem. 

It wasn’t a secret that the two of you loved each other’s embrace, though neither of you had ever said it outloud, either, at least to one another. The only time you could remember was one time on set when, during a break, you had your arms wrapped around Joseph’s shoulders while he sat in a director’s chair, his fingers laced with yours as you spoke. Gaten jokingly made a comment about your constant attachment to each other, and Joseph had simply said, “I rather enjoy that constant attachment.”

A photo of the two of you in that position was posted on the Stranger Things instagram story, along with various other BTS photos. It was only the back of you, but, like any other relationship speculation, it was all anyone needed to turn an inch into a mile. God forbid two friends hold each other in a way that is actually very platonic, thank you very much.

Joseph’s hand dragged down further, meeting your hip, dangerously close to your backside, pulling you out of your thoughts.

“You fall asleep on me, love?” he asked, and you quickly recovered from his previous words, his actions, and his pet name for you, and shook your head lightly. 

“No, I wanna at least wait for the movie to….,” you trailed off, looking up at the screen to see the end credits rolling. “...end,” you deadpanned. You didn’t realize that much time had passed. “So much for that,” you shrugged.

Joseph chuckled as you stretched across him to grab the remote, and switched the TV off. You got up and began gathering the dirty dishes-the plates, wine glasses and the popcorn bowl. You made your way to the kitchen and heard his footsteps coming after you. 

You began loading the dishwasher when he spoke. “Did you enjoy it, at least?” he asked.

“I enjoyed seeing a young Tom Cruise,” you laughed, and it was true. That was the only thought you remembered having, that 23 year old Tom was hot. Deuxmoi asshole allegations be damned.

“Fair enough,” he said, and you heard the teasing edge in his voice. “I’d love to stay and have a one-sided conversation about the movie, but I should get going, I have a meeting in the morning,” he said. You turned around and saw he leant against the counter, arms crossed.

You smiled, ignoring his little dig at you, knowing it wasn’t serious. “Ooh, is that face gonna grace the TV screen again soon?” you teased. You were a little disappointed, though, almost wishing you had fallen asleep. He always stayed over when you did, mostly because he’d doze off shortly after you. 

He chuckled and shook his head, stepping forward, arms opening. “Maybeeee,” he drew out his answer as you happily walked into his embrace, arms locking around his torso. One of his arms wrapped around your body, the other held the back of your head, pressing your face into his collarbone. 

It didn’t matter how many times you had been in his arms, the goodbye hugs always made your nerves explode the most. The two of you always embraced like the other was going on a month long trip to a place with no wifi, cell or postal service. 

The two of you loosened the embrace after what felt like forever, but your arms hung around each other still. “You know I really would stay if I could,” he said, taking your chin in his grip.

“I know,” you nodded. “But, you have casting directors to wow in the morning,” you smiled.

“Let’s hope I do,” he replied, grinning. “Have a good night, babes,” he muttered, staring down at you intensely.

“You too,” you said back just as softly, butterflies flittering in your stomach.

When you thought he’d turn away and leave, his hold on your chin remained, his hanging mouth open as though there was more he wanted to say. The words, however, seemed to die on his tongue. His large brown eyes examined your face, quivering as they did.

“You good, Joe?” you asked, tilting your head.

He hesitated, literally freezing up for a second, before he snapped out of…whatever it was, and shook his head. “Yeah, I’m alright. I’ll call you tomorrow,” he mumbled out quickly. He released you entirely and speed walked towards the door, sliding out quickly as you looked at him in confusion. The door closed behind him, quiet harshly.

“Okay, then,” you said to yourself as you stood there, staring at the brown wooden surface.

Did he just shut your own door in your face?

You hadn’t mulled over Joseph’s odd little moment before he left for too long. It was after 1 AM and you were too tired to overthink about that man. You hopped in the bath for a quick shower, changed into some lacey pajamas and crawled back into bed.

You were making yourself comfortable when the sound of rapid knocking on your front door made you jolt up. Before you could wonder who the hell was showing up at your door in the middle of the night, the knocks became more insistent. You threw the comforter off your body and got out of bed, making your way towards the door, turning the living room light on. The rapid fists landing against the door made it vibrate, and you knew you weren’t the only one it woke up. You expected a complaint from the Karen next door in the morning.

You unlocked the door, surprise replacing your annoyance as you saw it was Joseph, looking frantic, leaning against the door frame, supported by his forearm.

“Joe? Did you forget so-” you began, but he cut you off.

“I need to tell you something,” he said, looking into your eyes. His own held a look of desperation within them.

“Okay….,” you said, stepping out of the way so he could enter. He walked in slowly, hands rubbing nervously at his jeans. You heard him let out a couple of heavy breaths.

“Wanna sit down, have some water?” you offered. It had been a while since he left at first, and from the looks of it, he obviously ran back here to tell you whatever it is he had to tell you.

“No, no, I just…have to get this out,” he turned to face you, visibly hyping himself up, and any tiredness you had began to fizzle out, because this was obviously eating at him. Your brain began to swarm with the possibilities of what he could be wanting to tell you, trying and failing to ignore the negative, outrageous shit that your anxious mind conjured up.  For some reason you began to think he was going to tell you to fuck off of and that your little relationship was stifling and burdensome.

Fuck you, anxiety.

He put you out of your misery, somewhat, when he started talking, the words tumbling out rapidly. “Okay, so, I’ve been trying to come up with an entire plan on how I would do this, what I would say, when I would say it. I’ve felt this way for three years now and it’s killing me to keep it to myself any longer-”

You furrowed your brows, and held up a hand to stop him. “Joe, slow down-”

“-and now, here I am trying to spill my guts to you in the middle of the night after running back here, looking like a proper idiot, and you’re probably wondering ‘what the fuck is wrong with him’-”

“Joe, can you-”

“-and I’m wondering if this was a mistake, should I not have listened to those comments on YouTube I spent hours reading, talking about the way you look at me, maybe it give me wasted hope, am I about to ruin everything between us because you won’t feel the same way I do,”

Your eyes widened. You didn’t try to stop him again, because you physically felt frozen.

He breathed in, his chest puffing out. “But I just need,” he stressed, “To let you know this. It’s become physically painful to be around you and hold it in now,”

A beat or two of silence passed as the two of you just looked at each other, you with anticipation, him with determination. 

“I love you, Y/N,” he finished breathily.

And just like that, a moment you could only dream of in recent years, was finally happening. Your eyes were still wide, but a smile pulled at your lips, your gaze unwavering.

“From that first table read, I loved how easily we clicked, even if you seemed so shy at first, but I love how vivacious you became. I love how close we got, and how that closeness just increased by thousands,” he uttered, he took a step towards you, but he paused again. 

You began walking toward him, face relaxing. He continued.

“I love how much we make each other laugh even when whatever it was, wasn’t that funny. I love movie nights with you, even though you never stay awake long enough for them. I love how I feel like I can tell you anything, even when I get scared and ramble way too much, like I did just now,” he paused and chuckled as you stopped dead in front of him, a good inch between you. You looked up at him, lips folded in, eyes searching his face, waiting for him to finish.

He laid a large palm on your cheek, thumb resting at the corner of your mouth. “I love your beautiful fucking face, and this goddamn smile,”

He dropped his hand and took yours with it, lacing your fingers together and looked at the entanglement for a second. He squeezed your hand, fingers pressing into the back of it, almost like he wanted to ground himself and make sure this was actually happening. 

“I love how it feels when we touch each other, and I don’t know if you’ve felt it too, but its literally the best fucking feeling in the world to me,” he spoke. 

Oh, you felt it too, alright.

“And it's what told me the most, that I was absolutely, undoubtedly, 100%, in love with you,” by the tone of his voice and finality within it, you knew he was done.

You realized you had become numb to any nerves you thought you would feel during a moment like this. You thought your heart would beat so fast your body would tremble, and you would’ve choked on your own words so badly it would hurt. Somehow, hearing his confession gave you the assurance you needed in yourself, and you didn’t doubt him for a second. Your overthinking ceased in its entirety. You nearly regretted driving yourself crazy trying to suppress your feelings. He was here, in front of you, telling you how you felt, echoing every word you ever wanted to say to him. 

Your sudden boost of confidence led you to take charge of the next move. You undid your hand from his, and draped your arms around his neck.

“You done?” you asked, beginning to lean in slowly.

His hands gripped at your waist, tugging you closer, almost desperately. “Yeah,” he whispered.

“You sure?” you asked, lips so close to his that a soft breeze could bring them together.

“Yeah,” he practically whined.

“Good,” your voice came out barely audible.

And without another word, you pressed your lips to his own, pouring in every inkling that you could, that you felt the same way about him.

you turn to jungwon. "how does it feel to be the internet's most wanted tiktok boy currently?"

jungwon's brows lifted slightly in amusement as he looked from the camera to you, then back to the camera once more. "uh–"

"great," you interrupted with a loud clap of your hands, "let's get started then!" jungwon fell into a fit of laughter as he shoved you in retaliation for cutting him off. the clip cuts to later in the video after the more tame questions had been answered. "okay, pick a mini challenge to do together right now," you read from your phone before looking up at jungwon expectantly.

jungwon purses his lips in thought before his eyes light up and he sits straighter. "the chapstick challenge," he states confidently.

your eyes grow wide. "i– you do realize we have to kiss for that, right?" you clarified.

jungwon nods, a sly smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. "mhm," he nods. "it can't be that bad to kiss me, right? would you rather do it with riki?"

you're left visibly speechless as you continue to stare into jungwon's unwavering gaze for some few seconds longer before you wordlessly get up to retrieve as many chapsticks as you can find around your room. you come back with a decent handful of them and hesitate as you watch him close his eyes, waiting for you to apply the first flavor to your lips for him to guess.

you choose one and make a few swipes on your lips before capping the stick and dropping it back into the pile beside you. "okay, i'm ready." your voice audibly trembles slightly as you speak and you can see the way you begin to anxiously wring your hands in your lap. jungwon, however, is as cool and collected as ever as he opens his eyes only to close them again as he gently takes your chin between his thumb and index finger and tilts your head up slightly to meet his lips in a kiss.

the scene quickly disappears and reappears with the two of you sitting side by side once again, having edited out the next couple of kisses and the confession from the original video. "okay, so this has officially turned into the boyfriend tag!" you announce cheekily before reciting the first question. "how long have you two been together?" jungwon snickers and nudges you playfully as you check the invisible watch on your wrist. "about two whole minutes, i'd say," you answer your own question.

WE FOLLOW A BOB ROSS PAINTING TUTORIAL 09/27/21

the clip cuts to a new video where you and jungwon are already in frame with art easels positioned in front of each of you. off screen, your laptop plays one of bob ross's painting tutorials which you both are trying desperately to keep up with.

"oh my god, wait, where did that tree come from?" you cry out between jungwon's loud cackles as he watches you trying to hurry and finish your clouds. "i looked away for three seconds, i swear!"

"do you want to pause it–"

"no!" you answer defiantly as you rush to clean your brush, "that takes away from the whole point of the challenge."

"i didn't realize this was a challenge..." jungwon trails off, his eyes still never leaving your canvas as you begin to slap on some green paint for the tree that had magically appeared in bob's painting. his loud laughter rings once more as he points to your painting. "it looks like a warped kermit the frog!" he wheezes out much to your displeasure.

"oh yeah? well yours looks like–" you seethe out semi-playfully, whirling around to make fun of his own tree only to find that he'd done it almost identically to the one bob had painted. your pouting expression only deepens much to jungwon's amusement. unable to come up with a valid critique, you resort to your last defense and stick your tongue out at him childishly.

without missing a beat, jungwon lifts his brush and swipes the remaining green paint down the bridge of your nose. your expression morphs into one of shock, then suddenly you're both attacking each other with your respective paint brushes. it then cuts to a later part of the video after your paint war had ended where you're both heavily concentrated on the tutorial with green paint stains littering both of you in various places.

BUYING AND EATING EVERY SNACK IN THE CONVENIENCE STORE 11/19/21

the next clip cuts in mid-video where you and jungwon are both already at the convenience store with various snacks in the basket. you're manually carrying around the camera as you two walk through the store together and can't seem to stop making horrible food puns.

you pan the camera down the aisle quickly as you lightly jog to catch up with jungwon who is standing at the other end. "there's all of this food yet the only snack i see is..." you turn the camera to face you as you stand next to jungwon so it catches you both in frame, "me, of course." you smile widely as jungwon glances at the camera, then down at you as he thumps you on the back of your head.

"someone's got to keep you humbled," jungwon smiles a little in satisfaction as you pout dramatically and rub at the back of your head. but, much to your surprise as it shows on camera, he leans down and kisses the back of your head where he had thumped you and plants an extra kiss against your temple before turning to wander down a different aisle.

a wide grin takes over your face before you turn the camera to start capturing the store once again as you follow mindlessly behind jungwon. "but i am still a snack, right?" you call out to him, the audio vaguely picking up an affirmative response.

BOYFRIEND TEACHES ME TO DRIVE 12/01/21

the next video opens up with you and jungwon both sitting in the car together, you in the driver's seat and him in the passenger's seat. you look completely relaxed and laid back in deep contrast to jungwon who seems like he's about to go into cardiac arrest.

"calm down, won, i haven't even started the car yet," you tease. "besides, there's barely anything for me to crash into. well, aside from that bush down there... and that lamp post in the middle of the lot... and that giant storefront behind us–"

"okay, just start the car!" jungwon groans, though the smile that creeps on his face is telling of his underlying excitement for the event ahead. without objecting or making a witty remark, you simply turn the key in the ignition and listen as the vehicle rumbles to life. "okay, now push down on the brake pedal while you shift the gear into drive."

"how do i– oh, you mean the PRNDL!" you beam, catching on to the instruction easily as you hold down the brakes with your foot and reach for the gear shift.

jungwon blinks and looks over at you with the most deadpan expression he can muster which doesn't last for too long as soon as you make eye contact with him. you both burst out laughing before you can even manage to put the car into drive.

"you really took the chance to reference that audio, didn't you?" jungwon shakes his head fondly, then changes his voice slightly as he completes the viral audio for you. "let's just relax and turn on the radio! would you like AM or FM?" he reaches up to suddenly turn the radio on, the abrupt loudness of the music making you visibly jump in your seat as uncontrollable laughter spills from your lips.

the clip cuts to a later point in the video after you'd been driving around the vacant parking lot for a bit. jungwon seems visibly more relaxed as he slouches comfortably in his seat.

"what if i just start doing donuts?" you wonder aloud as you drive the perimeter of the lot, quickly catching your boyfriend's attention as he sits up alertedly in his seat.

"please don't," he pleads seriously much to your amusement as he reaches over to grab your arm.

"will you at least buy me donuts after this?" you asked, batting your lashes for dramatic effect as you take your eyes away from the parking lot for a brief moment.

"i will if you watch the road and don't get us killed!" jungwon shrieked, his eyes growing wide as he quickly turned your face forward once more. sheer panic sets in your eyes instantaneously and your foot slams the brakes on, sending you both lurching forward in your seats dangerously.

it's silent for five whole seconds before you turn to jungwon and begin to shake him by the shoulder roughly. "there was nothing in front of us, you maniac!"

STUCK IN QUARANTINE :c 01/10/22

the final clip cuts in and you're traveling through your house with the camera in hand. "so," you clear your throat as the hoarseness becomes evident, "guess who tested positive for covid?" you make a sad face at the camera and point to yourself. "i've actually been in quarantine for a few days already, but i really–"

you're cut off by the sound of the doorbell which genuinely startles you as you glance offscreen towards the general direction of your living room. taking the camera with you, you fall out of the view of the screen as you venture to the front door. some shuffling is heard as you open the door, then a small gasp comes from you followed by a series of giggles. the camera then lifts up to show outside of your screen door where jungwon stands at the bottom of your porch with a giant smile on his face and a fast food bag clutched in his hand.

"eat with me!" he calls out, pointing to the bag of food he'd left for you outside of your door.

your laughter continues as you open the door and take the bag of food and the drink before reentering your home and letting the door latch closed again. jungwon pads back up the few concrete steps and sits down comfortably on your house's welcome mat, the glass door safely separating the two of you as you take a seat on the other side.

"you're crazy," you chuckle softly behind the camera as you find a good place to set it up to capture the two of you in frame.

"i just miss you," jungwon pouts as he begins to take out the food he had ordered for himself.

"it's only been three days, wonie," you smile as you find a good angle for the camera and finally start pulling out your own food.

"i can still miss you," he argued playfully before leaning forward and smushing his cheek against the glass. "give me a kiss."

you roll your eyes with a small smile before pressing a kiss to your fingertips, then to the place where his cheek is pushed against the door. "there," you hum, watching with the biggest heart eyes as he sits back with the most satisfied smile on his dimpled face.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WONIE! 02/09/22

the original video takes place on the screen once more, except this time you're in a different room. more specifically, a different house. the camera is set up near the end of a bed that isn't yours and shows you sitting in the center of it with the contents of the envelope scattered around you. a spool of twine and a bag of clothespins also occupied the space with you as you sorted through the many small objects.

"okay, so this is part one of jungwon's birthday surprise — this video is going to be part two after i upload it." you turn to the camera and hold up a few of the objects which can now be identified as polaroid photos. "he knows i've been obsessed with taking polaroid photos recently so i gathered up my favorites and i'm going to tack them to his wall. he'll be able to see my lovely face in his dreams," you smile cheekily and begin measuring out the length of the twine.

as you begin to pin the polaroids to the string, you hold up one to the camera every few moments and tell a summarized story of when and why that particular photo was taken. in almost no time at all, you have two full strands of polaroid photos of you and jungwon hung on the wall above his headboard. just as you finish tacking the last strand to the wall, the vague sound of the bedroom door opening catches your attention and you glance off screen as a wide smile makes its way onto your lips.

"what are you doing?" jungwon's voice chuckles as you hurriedly wiggle off of the bed to run off screen and greet him.

"happy birthday, wonie!" you shout animatedly before pulling him onscreen. "say hi to youtube," you direct, pointing to the camera which jungwon waves at before he turns to assess the work you've done. "you'll see part two of your birthday gift by tomorrow at the latest."

soon, you're being scooped up off your feet in a giant bear hug as jungwon spins you around before landing on the bed with you. you're both a laughing mess as you fall on top of him, and you just spend the next few moments looking into each other's eyes before you share a delicate, sweet kiss. the video ends shortly after with a heartfelt message written across the black screen from you to jungwon.

Hey Ham, I want to resurrect one of your aus the stateless heroes one to be specific, do the kids after going through all of that re form their guilds or do they just make a mega agency with the guilds contained within?

Also, what did they miss while in the game?

Stateless Heroes is an au im soft for bc I have a not very subtle love of transmigration/isekai type stories.

After they escape the game, they finish their education and then go on to mostly do away with the concept of individual hero agencies. Instead, they agencies that technically belong to one hero team (guild), but have a rotating roster of every one of them that signed on to their 'agency partnership' (mega-agency). They have kinda divided up japan into need little quadrants so that literally all of the populated areas are covered by one guild or another. Think of it as a hero agency franchise. It lets them still patrol lower-income areas because they feed money back into the mega-agency to create a guaranteed basic income for everyone employed.

As for what they miss - they miss a whole year of time, their bodies don't change or age while they are trapped in the quirk. They wake up and a year has passed and they haven't lived it. Their families are a year older. They are all famous now, faces broadcast across local, national and international TV, missing, then broadcast across the world in the worst moments of their lives.

Imagine your best friend died right in front of you. You couldn't save her - you live, you morn, you go back home. And one day you find her brutal death on youtube in a clip compilation, along with other private or important moments you lived that year. People are talking about you in the comments, about how they wouldn't have frozen - they'd have fought back. You have a Wikipedia page. So does your friend. So does the boy who saved you, your guild, the little old lady you would visit every few days for fresh eggs. She's listed as an NPC. She didn't feel like one.

Not a single thing you did that year was private. You come home knowing the whole world watched and judged.

Gender identity in s7 of DRUCK

I tried to compile all moments that could belong either to the gender identity or the body dysphoria storyline of Isi’s season. Hearing that the s7 main is non-binary (or could be) brought me back to watching live. Which I stopped doing after s4 of Druck. And yeah… it was frustrating this time around.

I started this list shortly after the final episode and it took a while (yeah, i know). I hope I got everything. I’m sorry if something is missing. This got very long…

Episode 1:

1. Isi meets Lou in the toilets. Two gnc people seeing each other for the first time. Is it a mixed toilet? Maybe, but I kinda doubt it. So, one of them is challenging the binary toilet system in the school. Maybe…

2. “Hi Lou, I’m Isi.” - an introduction with gender neutral names. Both of them never use the other’s birth name and therefore respect their choices.

3. “Is this your brother or your sister?” - a teammate of Umut thinks it’s alright to comment on Isi’s appearance and make assumptions, representing society in a nutshell with this. At first it seems like Isi doesn’t really care but then Umut makes it clear that he is effected, which gets to Isi.

Episode 3:

4. The threesome scare. I’m not sure if this belongs here but Isi’s reaction could be caused by body dysphoria. It also could very well be, because Isi doesn’t want to get sexual with Lou, or Constantin or with both of them together. We don’t know and this is a problem, as it was NEVER MENTIONED AGAIN!!! What was the reason for it? Getting some outrage?

Episode 4:

5. Isi removes the nail polish after Constantin wore it in an insta post to “fuck with stereotypes” - it’s probably performativ on Consti’s part (and he gets applauded by Lou), but for Isi it goes much deeper than that.

6. “Let’s try to introduce a part for men.” “Not so much hip movement.” “Like dudes in the club.” “Put your hands on my hips like I’m your date.” - the girls say all of this without realizing that Isi is uncomfortable the whole time bc they seemingly don’t identify with any of these stereotypes.

7. Isi is watching the YouTube video about gender identity. It is nice. It’s a nod to how the mains always google stuff. But again it’s a shallow treatment of this topic. It’s only one short scene that is later overshadowed by family trouble. It could‘ve been the start of something but -like a lot of other things- was never really picked up again.

8. Sascha calls their get together ‘girl‘s night’ and Isi is okay with it. Isi feels comfortable with the girls and with Sascha calling it girl’s night. They know Sascha isn’t mocking them.

9. Consti assumes that Isi only likes guys because of the way she dresses/presents. Consti has no idea that there is so much more to it and I think he doesn’t care enough to learn more about it. Again presenting society in a nutshell.

Episode 5:

10. “You know exactly who you are?” - “Don‘t you?” - “I‘m always different.” - “I like that about you.” - “You can be everything you want.” - important convo for Isi to hear, after Isi didn’t know how to dress and and style himself and was so overwhelmed that he covered up the mirror. Isi kinda relates to Lou and her saying this and making them feel better is so important.

11. “I nearly didn‘t recognize you.“ - Isi tries to fit in by dressing like ‘one of the boys’. She does this for her brother, even tho you can see how uncomfortable she is. This is really sad. Even sadder that Umut is still mad (even if it is understandable, he is a very impressionable young teenager). In the end no one is happy with this.

12. “You don’t have to adept for anyone.” - “How would you know? I have to adept every day. Whatever I do. I don’t fit in. They want one or the other.” - honestly one of the best scenes. Sascha is like the audience that finally gets to hear how Isi feels and listens intently. Sascha/the audience cannot make it easier for Isi but it’s important that Isi knows someone is in their corner to catch them if they need it. Finally some insight! Finally some feelings! (They still do not really continue this throughoutly)

13. “Boys right. Girls left.“ - with Isi being unsure where to go but eventually deciding to ‘fit in’ with the boys and society norms before Lou ‘saves’ them and gives them an excuse to get out of the situation.

Episode 6:

14. Mailin and Isi talk about Umut ignoring Isi. And Mailin asks about Isi playing and quitting football. Isi says that it was too “football-ish” and Mailin agrees and says she, too, had a hard time when she started training the boys. I think it is heavily implied that gender roles/expectations played a big part in both their stories.

15. Isi goes to the queer youth center with Sascha. They meet David, by chance. Isi talks to him and David mentions body dysphoria. I still don’t know why they didn’t dig deeper after this. They had a good set up. Wasn’t the show supposed to educate about important topics? They really dropped the ball with this one. This could’ve been a catalyst.

Episode 7:

16. “Hey Umut. Your sister is here.” - the teammate at it again. And he chuckles. He thinks he’s funny. Isi makes Umut listen to him. They talk about it beautifully, touching topics of what being ‘normal’ even means, pretending to be someone you’re not and losing yourself over it. It was way too short but heartfelt and very important.

17. “Just because you think I kiss men anyway. Or whatever you made up in your head.” - “no worries. I know now how you are. You made out with Lou.” - The talk from the garage never really got solved and it is kinda picked up here. Isi still is mad at Consti’s assumptions, rightfully tho. And Consti doesn’t even listen and continues to assume stuff about Isi without ever asking. Consti still mistakes gnc clothing, gender identity and sexual orientation. He doesn’t care. He is hurt and doesn’t try to understand, not even for his friend’s sake.

Episode 9:

18. Mr. Önder is harassing Isi and Umut by stopping them and telling Isi that he disapproves of who Isi is and how Isi presents. Again, nobody asked but this is sadly pretty accurate, nosy neighbours and all. I love (!) how Isi is very angry, at first, but then looks at Umut and sees that he is afraid. Isi changes her behaviour on the spot and exposes Mr. Önder’s double standards in a really mature way.

19. Umut and Isi talk about Zeki Müren and this may be the sweetest talk they have. Isi tells Umut about the singer and Umut compares Isi to him. It’s a beautiful end to their storyline where Umut just excepts Isi and encourages them.

20. HOLY RAINBOW NIGHT: the culmination of Isi’s journey (if you can call it that). We have Billie who is very good at creating a calming environment. Billie also shows Isi that it is okay to have no pronouns by simply showing the name tag.

21. Then we have David who introduces the idea behind the name tag: no awkwardness just enjoy the night without feeling wrong. And he, too, creates an atmosphere that feels save. At first Isi goes along like always and just bends herself for society norms. But then they look around and recognise a safe space. Unlike ep 5, where Lou came to the ‘rescue’, Isi now stands up for himself and chooses a name and pronouns that feel right. But this is all new and Isi is still unsure about it. Then David steps in: “just try it out.” Reassuring Isi again, that she is save here (that’s when I cried).

Episode 10:

22. At the Christmas dinner we have the family discuss Mr. Önder because he came around to complain. When Isi’s parents hear the whole story, they immediately start reassuring Isi about herself and telling her, that they are proud. Then Baba Inci plays best of Zeki Müren. And all of them dance and celebrate the music (and Isi).

23. Since body dysphoria is also part of Isi story, at least in some scenes, I wanna mention Isi and Sascha’s Christmas night clip. I think it’s refreshing that the one being a bit insecure seems to be Sascha, not Isi. Isi feels save and therefore is confident in the physical part which is heartwarming. They found someone who takes them as they are. Isi CAN just be who they are. Kinda leaving body dysphoria and struggling with their gender identity as problems for the outside world, while they create this permanent safe haven, which is really beautiful.

24. As they’re preparing for the their dance performance Isi tells his friends that they only want to use Isi as a name from now on. Isi still seems precarious and tries to give their friends (and themself) an out, if they don’t take it well. But both, Kieu My and Nora, make sure that Isi knows that it isn’t an effort for them and that they will adapt for Isi, no questions asked. With this, another safe space is created. This also spilled over to Insta where Isi and their close friends now have their pronouns in their bios. This should’ve been a Clip, tho.

25. The last clip is Isi just embracing herself and enjoying it. First Isi sits in front of her mirror again. While they struggle to use the right lipstick, in the end Isi is satisfied with how they look. Later at the dance performance she is confident and you don’t see any of the struggles she had at the beginning. The new year begins for Isi surrounded by friends, finally having the strength to embrace herself.

In conclusion:

The build-up in Isi’s journey isn’t always super clear and should’ve been a center piece of their story but it did linger there throughout the whole season. They could’ve (or should’ve!!!) done better. Still, some scenes/clips are amazing and have a special place in my heart. I’m proud of and happy for Isi, this fictional character, who struggled with their identity and got to a good place in the end. It’s what Isi deserves and what everyone else deserves, who’s struggling because society is harsh, if you don’t fit in.

LMAO ur totally fine, i was never that big of a reality tv girl until the pandemic made me revisit the Classics of my adolescence so i get the confusion 🐒 i think shows from that era are fun to watch bc it's this mix of pre-social media/influencer personalities, but in the midst of The Rise of the Reality TV Star™️ so it's interesting to see the different ways fame and like Performance were handled back then vs now where it's *gestures towards the wasteland of youtubers / instagram models / etc* & then the fact that the jersey shore cast was just regular ass east coast italians all grouped together for their big personalities rather than online clout made things Feel a little more real/easier to connect with? like you could've met any of these people on the boardwalk ykwim so there's something kinda endearing/homegrown to it IDK even the fact that it's not just partying & going crazy but they actually have to physically work at the shore store too LMAO it's like reality tv for minimum wage earning 20 yr olds 😮‍💨🙏 i do think a lot of it is the nostalgia factor too & recognizing these shows as the pop cultural artifacts that they are / the undeniable effect they have on pop culture even today, but maybe that's just my own fascination/fixation speaking 🥸

Hannah is NCT’s princess, yes, everyone knows that. The members, especially the 127 members, call her princess so often. But do you know who started the whole calling Hannah Princess trend? JUNG JAEHYUN!

Hannah did say on a live once that when she told Jaehyun she was debuting in NCT, the first thing he told her was that she would be treated like a princess there.

No one really caught on until Empathy era when OT18 promoted together and Hannah was added to 127’s lineup.

The First Love and Everyone’s Girlfriend

So you know how Jaehyun is called first love because everyone literally sees or imagines him as their first love? Well Hannah was known as everyone’s girlfriend because she always gave off girlfriend vibes both to fans and members.

When they’re together, there’s just something different in the air. It’s like they’re in a drama all of a sudden, especially when they’re talking to each other.

Jaehyun always strives to be a gentleman to Hannah, and Hannah usually reciprocates the care and affection he shows her.

They don’t really interact much on camera, so their moments of interaction are really really precious to fans.

1. rewatch the twilight saga movies. you have 5 cinematic masterpieces to go through, plus hours and hours of extra content, behind the scenes and bloopers. put together a marathon or watch a little bit everyday, just don't forget to rank japers' wigs from best to worst and then let me know what your least favorite one was 

2. reread the twilight books. all four books are wild journeys on their own, and if you've only read them at a young age you'd certainly be surprised giving them a new shot - both in good and bad ways

3. read twilight “extras”. between the short second life of bree tanner, the official illustrated guide, life and death, the available chapters of midnight sun and extra scenes of each of the four main books on stephenie’s website, there's a ton of content for those who have already memorized the original story

4. read twilight fan fiction - on tumblr, on AO3, wherever else you want. there are incredibly talented writers out there in the fandom who have brought to life improved different versions of our beloved characters and created better new storylines based on the saga, so it's a wonderful opportunity to read them, leave comments & share their content with the world. this also includes blurbs, imagines and the endless adventures of y/n for those of you (ok, us) who like to imagine what it'd be like to be bitten by carlisle or camp in the woods with leah

5. write twilight fan fiction! if what's out there is not enough to fulfill your deepest fantasies and solve the plot holes that bother you the most, bring to life a scene you’ve always wanted to see or fix something that you hate in canon (yes, i mean jacob imprinting on renesmee). this includes other types of content creation like drawing, edits, collages , clay sculptures & whatever else floats your boat

6. pretend you're bella in new moon and write e-mails to alice telling her about your feelings for edward (or the cute guy/gal in your class/office that you won't be seeing for a while bc y'all can't go anywhere right now). be as dramatic as you want, just make sure you don't send it to the person accidentally

7. watch interviews with the cast! they went on a lot of events and panels back when the movies were coming out, so there's a ton of videos to enjoy. maybe you've seen them all more times than it should be legal, maybe there's one or two you haven't watched in a while, maybe there's a compilation of funny moments you're yet to check out. whatever it is, just let the endless void of the youtube search bar help you navigate the next few weeks with a little bit of joy

8. listen to the movies' soundtracks. they were really ahead of their time and I can guarantee that there are some hidden jams in there you're yet to sing in the shower - or while washing your hands. you can also make your own playlists inspired by a book, a ship, a scene or a movie with songs you believe would fit the vibe ('what makes you beautiful' for edward & bella, anyone?)

9. put together your dream casting for the movies. i've made a few posts on this and I could go on forever, it's just so fun to imagine my own version of the characters! make the vampires more diverse, stick to the book descriptions, switch everyone's genders - your cast, your rules! 

10. catch up on the cast's more recent work! not everyone got as much success as they were probably hoping for when they joined the saga, BUT regardless of that they've all been involved in other projects since leaving forks so there's a lot to explore. be it movies, tv shows, musical careers or other side activities, show some support to those who endured so many years of bad wigs and cringy dialogue for us ♥

As for what got me into the ship, it was seeing cool ship art/fics on Tumblr and also just the dynamics that it has. The fact that they’re best friends. The way that they’re kind of the parental friends and leaders of the egos as a whole, and the way they sort of lean on and depend on each other in that regard, and as actual fathers. The way they’ve been through a lot of the same things and can understand each other better than anyone else. :)

Anyway, here are the hcs finally:

-It’s Pride month; please consider the fact that they have five kids and are therefore a family of 7 and then consider a Pride month photo for Chase’s insta where each person is wearing a different color shirt so they make a rainbow together

-Also I just need cute family insta pics in general. May I suggest ‘how many family members can Henrik hold up at once?’ Chase on one hip (taking the picture), one kid on another, one kid on his back, one kid on Chase’s back, maybe one hanging on the front, etc,

-Chase definitely tries to learn to make some German dishes, and Henrik’s always so incredibly grateful for some old favs he hasn’t had in years. Though, it’s always a toss up on what’s his favorite part: eating the delicious food, or listening to Chase try to pronounce the name of it

-Henrik wears a watch every day, not a smartwatch like Chase’s, a classic analog one, bc he’s a doctor and he needs one. Chase likes when he’s wrapped up in Henrik’s arms and he can hear the soft ticking noise. Also, one night Henrik starts to fall asleep before he takes it off and he feels Chase gently pick up his hand, take it off for him, and give the inside of his wrist a lil kiss and now he ‘forgets’ to take it off all the time. Also also, Chase probably gets him a nice new watch for a birthday/xmas/anniversary at some point so that one’s extra special :)

-Chase looks so, so cute in denim shorts, esp ones w/ a lil cuff at the bottom. Henrik says it should be illegal. Bonus points if they’re overalls.

-They like to go grocery shopping together when they can - they’re a couple that always has fun together no matter what they’re doing, so even though they get some weird looks for being loud and occasionally literally running around the store as two grown-ass men, they love doing errands together. They ALWAYS do Costco runs together, too, that’s not even optional that’s sacred. They like strolling along trying all the free samples while buying mac and cheese in bulk to feed their many children. Marvin highkey judges when Chase says their fave thing to do on a date is ‘Costco’ but he’s just a h8er. 

-Henrik does this thing where if they get food from a restaurant and he tries something new & it’s really good, he immediately breaks off a piece or holds out his fork for Chase to try it too, without even thinking about it 

-Whenever any sort of arts n crafts trend is happening on the internet Chase likes to try it w/ the kiddos so there’s lots of funky cool art all over their house

-They would absolutely get married; marriage is super important to Chase. But I can’t see them having a very fancy wedding. It would probably be in their backyard, or maybe on the beach where they go as a family, and it would just be the kids and the other egos

-Chase’s subscribers calling them schneeplebro, and making compilation vids like ‘schneeplebro funniest moments,’ ‘schneeplebro being disgustingly in love for 13 minutes,’ ‘schneeplebro being the best dads for 15 mins straight’

-Honestly Henrik’s weird sense of humor gets to shine in Chase’s videos. Always telling those jokes he loves about tax evasion & not being a real doctor, which gets even funnier bc every now and then he gets a patient who actually watches the channel. Imagine meeting the guy who’s gonna do surgery on you and it’s your fave youtuber’s partner who always jokes about not being licensed and getting sued for malpractice kfjkdjfkadkfj

-Listen, I see y’all with your ‘Henrik took ballroom dance/waltz lessons as a kid’ headcanons. I love them & I love you but just once I want the two of them to be talking about dancing and for Chase to say, ‘well, when you took dance lessons in school -’ and Henrik to be like ‘Do you know I’m from Germany and not 1947? I had a PlayStation.’

-He’s just still salty from the time they were talking about jobs they’ve had and he told Chase he worked at McDonald’s the summer after he graduated high school to which Chase asked completely sincerely, ‘They had McDonald’s in Germany back then?’ “It was 2004, Chase.”

-I so badly. So badly. Want a schneeplebro mug collection video. You know between Henrik’s coffee addiction and Chase’s tea addiction they have like at least two full cabinets. Imagine all the cute/silly ones they buy for each other

-Henrik has a pretty good singing voice but usually will only sing to the kids. ‘Bingo was his name-o’  absolutely going off. But sometimes, he can be convinced to sing to Chase

-The other scenario in which he’ll sing is when he’s drunk, and Chase has an entire spotify playlist called ‘all men do is lie’ which is full of nothing but songs that Henrik once claimed not to know/like but then magically knew all the words to after about five drinks

-Chase likes to be picked up and gets so happy when Henrik gets home from work and lifts him up w/ a big hug or scoops him up while they’re kissing :)

-In terms of them getting a dog like I mentioned in the last list, I think it would be one of those things where for a long time if anyone ever asked them about it they’d be like ‘well, maybe someday, but we’d have to do a lot of research about what the best breed for our family would be and then start looking at where to adopt from so yeah we don’t know’ until one day they’re just like ‘we found a dog in our neighborhood and couldn’t find his owners so we have a dog now. he is a mutt and he eats garbage. we love him dearly.’

-Sometimes Henrik will make tea and bring it to Chase bc he’s downstairs and he can hear Chase pacing above him

-Henrik has very thick hair and loves when Chase plays with it or runs his fingers through it

-Family movie nights, especially when they can find a movie or series they all wanna watch. At one point there’s a family disagreement about what the best Pixar movie is the best, so they decide they just have to spend a long weekend marathoning every pixar movie ever made in release order and hold a debate at the end. Nobody wins but they all have a great time.

Hey, this is like a prompt idea (? But only if want to or just to go deeper with this) but Mc and Noah wanted to be together but in the end, Mc and Gary won together and they split the money,so Noah left with Hope but he then sees social media and they're a bunch of Noahx Mc and stuff like Hope is kinda controlling posts, and Hope also isn't happy bc there is a lot of videos like "All the Noah x Mc moments". And Noah realises he *wants* Mc but he isn't sure if he can talk to her so he visits her

B R U H. That’s lowkey the first chapter of the dark!Bobby fic I’m working on- but replace Noah with Gary and Gary with Bobby. I won’t elaborate, if you’re interested I’ll be posting it sometime this week 👀

But I love love LOVE the idea of how social media and the aftermath of the show influence Nope. They’re already on such thin ice with each other, adding public opinion is a powderkeg. 

The first thing is that Hope gets IMMEDIATE backlash- some of it justified but most not. The editors absolutely framed her to be in the wrong in all their blowouts, and if the racism in the litg reddit indicates anything... IRL Hope would have a rough go of it. Even if her and MC are best friends, Hope’s angry with how the world has perceived her and openly blames MC (for acting like the victim and making her look unreasonable). MC tries to reach out but Hope’s so caught up in being overwhelmed it doesn’t do much good. 

Hope visits Noah specifically to interrogate him if he cheated on her. Assuming MC really was into Gary and didn’t cheat, Hope knows that if they had cheated the show would’ve included it. She’s just looking to vent frustration and have him take some of the blame. He can’t help it- he didn’t cheat or explicitly say anything. But Hope absolutely has watched the ‘Noah simps for 20:03 minutes” compilations on Youtube. I think they would have broken up after the show anyway, but this accelerates it. Hope wants them to stay together, but keeps asking him to ‘prove you really love me’ and Noah’s at a loss for what to say. 

Meanwhile, MC and Gary are living their best lives, posting on social media, taking brand deals, all that jazz. They look genuinely happy together and Noah tries to keep it together but he’s so angry at himself for not shooting his shot.

Hope dictates to Noah what to post (partly because she wants to control the narrative, partly because Noah doesn’t use social media and is super out of touch as to how to use it effectively) and she really tries to make it seem like they’re in love and still going strong. Noah’s super uncomfortable with that- he thinks relationships are meant to be private- but lets her do it without saying anything. He doesn’t communicate that it bothers him until they fight and he adds that to the laundry list of things he’s upset about. 

MC reaches out to Noah and is like “hey. How are things? Hope’s been really angry with me but I want to make sure she’s coping. Also how are you doing?” That absolutely shatters him, he spends a half-hour sobbing because that’s what made him fall for MC- that she’s so thoughtful and supportive. He feels trapped in this dysfunctional relationship and he knows neither of them are happy but doesn’t know how to get out. 

So he calls MC and he just rambles for an hour and he’s absolutely crying on the phone just pouring his heart out and apologizing. When he calms down MC jokes ‘that’s the most I’ve heard you talk.’ He laughs lightly, and she reassures him that everything is going to be okay.

Depending on if MC genuinely is loyal and happy, she either talks it through with Noah or invites him out. 

Because I like angst, I say she is loyal and talks it through. All of the good “are you happy? What would make you happy?” stuff, and they arrive on that he and Hope need to break up. He’s worried about Hope taking it badly, but she has a strong support network of her family and friends. At the end of the call, Noah says, ‘what about us?’ MC sighs and says “maybe if we’d have gotten together earlier. But Gary and I are really happy- we’re talking about buying a house. I’m sorry Noah, you’re a great friend and I care about you, but that’s the most I can give you.” Noah’s super sad about that but there’s nothing to do but accept it.

OR MC invites Noah to come talk it through, they cheat, and it’s a whole big thing. Gary is crushed, Hope feels vindicated in her anger towards MC, the fandom is excited. 

After a year or so Hope reaches out to MC to apologize and make amends. With time and space she can realize what was justified and what wasn’t. She and Noah were both so caught up in a toxic relationship that they couldn’t see a solution. MC is just happy her and Hope don’t have to be on bad terms anymore.

Emily Sonnett - player analysis

A compilation of Sonnett‘s strengths, weaknesses (cause everyone has them) and general observations from Portland and USWNT games (mostly from 2018 and 2019) ft. my irrelevant opinion.

Before I’ll start a few notes:

I’m obviously not a professional soccer analyst person or whatever, so please don’t come for my ass. These are just patterns or reoccurring things in Sonnett’s game I observed while rewatching tons of PTFC and USWNT games. 

I will focus on a few key points, that doesn’t mean that she has deficiencies in other aspects, sometimes it’s just hard to show them and I tried to avoid stating arguments without giving visual evidence. (All the links and credits are below the gifs)

I would love it if you gave additions, feedback or criticism to this post but all in all I just hope that you enjoy reading a bit about Sonnett’s more professional side and soccer tactics in general.

Please let me know if the format is weird, I’m still figuring out how to make big posts.

And lastly, Sonnett is a precious little bean and I enjoyed making this more than I should have. Also, did I use this as an excuse to spend days on end rewatching old games? Yes I did.

I will start with three main strengths I think she brings to the pitch:

Communication / Leading the back line                                               (this is in regards to her position with the Thorns, I will talk about the differences between PTFC/USWNT later on)

As a center back you naturally have a more responsible role in terms of shifting players that are in front of you and communicating things to them they can’t necessarily see. Sonnett embraces that role completely and at 25 years old she is at the level of world class CBs in that regard. A lot of players take on that role much later in their career. Her college coach Steve Swanson for the University of Virginia said about her:

"There is a standard of focus and intensity that Emily demands of the players that play around her. She’s not afraid to hold her teammates accountable in that regard. That was one of the unique aspects of our team dynamic this year, is that Emily's style of leadership is different than the team was used to. I think the team has recognized that the qualities Emily has, we need.“

This clip I wanted to show you is from a situation that is very common for a defensive line but overlooked bc we as viewers naturally tend to look at the movement of the ball. It’s the intentional shifting of the back line in the exact right moment to let an opposing attacker run into offside. In the original video you can hear Sonnett shout “DROP THE LINE“ and Menges and Kling follow her movement which results in Alex being successfully caught offside at the side line.

A simple moment but a very crucial part of back line coordination.

      2.    Box positioning

A.k.a. one of the most important parts of good defending. Sonnett covers runs from attackers almost always with textbook precision. She anticipates passes and is able intercept balls which makes her a proactive rather than a reactive player. When she does have to go for a tackle she brings a feistiness that she probably learnt from a certain Kelley O’Hara I can imagine. She usually opts for slide tackles and that decision could be debatable if you’re the coach but it’s just so good to look at tbh

But anyway, her box positioning. Having watched a lot of games with my eyes glued to number 16, I can of course safely say that Sonnett knows what she’s doing. But I’ve been thinking more and more that she often has a sort of intuitive approach when it comes to box positioning in particular. For this next clip I’m gonna need your opinion. Normally I wouldn’t tell Sonnett to abandon her player in that moment, especially bc it creates a 3v2 situation on the attackers left side and also considering the angle in which Dunn is facing the goal. However, she steps in and is able to block the ball.

    3.   Offensive effort

Sonnett is one of the highest scoring CBs of the league but her offensive efforts aren’t measurable in just goals. For corner kicks she likes to do the near-post run Julie Ertz style and has been successful in the past, most notably the 2-0 in the semifinal 2017 against Orlando (which resulted in this gem of a gif):

She likes to stay up top for a bit when her position is covered by someone else and tbh I’m living for these moments.

Here she encourages quick playing and would have gotten through with it if the nwsl had good refs. She didn’t even touch her. (get it? haha)

Here she drives the ball after winning it, even if her teammates are pushing up late and then she stays up front to participate in the counter attack. Unfortunately nothing evolves out of this situation.

Right. Those were the strengths, in terms of weaknesses, I don’t wanna pick apart the smallest things but this is what I found:

Misjudged midfield positioning

We’ve talked about her excellent positioning in the box, however, a huge part of modern soccer is having the Center Backs pushed up to the half-line (as well as inverted outside backs but that’s another point). And what I’ve noticed is that sometimes during turnovers Sonnett goes in to put pressure on the player and with that an even wider space opens up behind her that the opposing team could exploit. Like in this picture.

Blue is the ball movement, red (Sonnett) goes in when in my opinion green (Lindsey) should have been the one putting pressure on the ball bc now Daly can run into that open space. 

Luckily Sonnett’s speed prevents Houston from getting anything out of it but Daly tried it several times during the game.

My second example is that iconic tactical foul against ARod that we all remember.

Her positioning isn’t optimal, Klings pass isn’t the best, ARod gets her off of the wrong foot, she can’t turn around fast enough and has to stop her with a professional foul which is (I’ll say it again) demanded by coaches in situations like that. But anyway, tumblr has talked enough about this game rip

      2. Determining the biggest threat

This is a minor one, because Sonnett is usually really good at reading the game and making the right decisions. However in this game against Australia, she tries to cover the space behind Dahl which is technically reasonable but considering how wide open the Australian is, she should have closed her in earlier. That little hop inside the center of the field made the difference and the opposing player was able to score. 

I think it’s safe to say that stuff like this comes with age and experience. And again, Sonnett is only 25!

Two more things I wanted to include are two risks that could be relevant in the future.

From time to time she doesn’t control her arm movement in the box.

This is obviously the natural thing you do when you make a move like that but with the new rules by Fifa, defenders are more and more limited and this would have been a penalty if it had hit her arm. Idk it could bite her in the ass at some point.

      2. Intuitive positioning 

We’ve talked about this and people might have different opinions on it. I personally think though that this might make the difference between a great and a world class defender. So I say go for it Sonny.

Phew, I’m almost done guys, congrats for getting this far, I hope it’s interesting at all.

The last thing I wanna mention is this: The difference between Portland Sonnett and National Team Sonnett, a.k.a. CB Sonnett and RB Sonnett.

Even though as a right back your role is more offensive, I feel like Sonnett has to be pushed to go for it. She rarely does those runs in behind the winger and towards the end line. When she does it it’s great but compared to Kelley she simply isn’t there yet. It also seems to me like for Portland she takes more liberties in pushing forward which maybe is a confidence thing as well. She is a given for the Thorns but had to fight to regain that roster spot for the NT in 2017 after not being called up for several months. Maybe the fear of making mistakes bc of being out of position hinders her a bit? (I’m saying this while being aware that I of course don’t know what the coaches want her to do and what the different game plans require of her.) Anyway, I love her 1v1 defending as RB. I think she is underrated and absolutely deserves a spot on the Olympic roster next year.
