Any unpopular opinion on the manga
Oh, unpopular opinions on the manga? I'm sure sure if they're unpopular or not, but I definitely have opinions.
To start with, this arc is moving too quickly. There's not enough build up, or time to establish the threats. We learn something or someone is a threat and then two or three chapters later there's a powerup that comes from nowhere and the threat is no longer a problem. Also, what is Clover going to do if this all goes sideways? Literally 90% (if not more) of their strongest are here. The amount of death flags flying around is ridiculous. I don't want anyone to die but also, if we get out of this arc without some serious consequences, I'm gonna be pissed.
Don't even get me started on Yuno's most recent power up. I don't like it. It feels like stupid overpowered bullshit in a series that's full of OP hax abilities. Yuno couldn't win that fight on his own? Bring someone in to help. I know that it's because we follow Asta that we don't see as much of Yuno's development with his magic, but his power-ups always feel unearned to me. We never get to see him struggle for any real length of time. He's having trouble, and then he's not. It's all a bit meh to me.
Speaking of not enough build up, where's the war with Diamond that was so heavily forshadowed in the Elf Arc? Give us the war with Diamond whilst building up Spade as a looming threat in the background. Pile on the pressure, they have to win this war, and win it cleanly bc there's a very good chance they're headed straight into another one. Also, am I the only person that thinks them getting Heart's help was too easy? These kids come out of nowhere and promise to help in exchange for learning your country's secrets? I don't know about you but, even though they felt like they desperately needed Asta's help, I wouldn't have accepted (If it was me, I'd have Heart trying to kidnap Asta first, but we all know I like my angst).
Also, what happened to Mars and Ladros? We last see them going back to Diamond after the fight in the Forest of Witches and then- nothing. Zenon decimated Diamond and we hear nothing about the major players we have there? Interesting choice, Tabata.
Anyway! Now that I've had that rant, I feel like I need to cover what I think was done well. Or the bits I liked at least.
Proper manga spoilers under the cut, not just me mentioning things vaguly.
To start with, Magna vs Dante.
I love this fight. I read it as it came out week by week, and every page I was just waiting for Asta to jump in and win it. We knew he was on his way, and that's usually how it goes. The background character gets close but the MC takes the win (see BNHA for plenty of examples of this), but that didn't happen. Magna got the win.
It's not exaggerating to say that I screamed when this happened. Magna is one of my favourites, even if I did make fun of him for beaing the weakest Black Bull for a while, and he actually got a win that mattered. The year or so we didn't see him was well worth the wait.
I can't wait to see this fight animated, but they have to do it right. The anime is fond of extending fights, which sometimes works out really well, and they're also fond of bringing extra people in (see the fight in the Underwater Temple for a good example of this, in the manga Gauche, Grey and Charmy don't show up until Vetto's dead). To bring in someone else for this fight would ruin it for me. This is Magna's big moment, and changing the fight in any significant way would just take that away from him.
The second thing I love is Noelle & Nozel vs Megicular.
Would I have done it a bit differently? Probably. But the fact that they're working together to beat the person that killed their mother is the perfect way to wrap up the Acier storyline.
The Finral and Langris team up against Zenon is another fight I liked, even if they did get their asses kicked almost instantly. This is one fight I hope the anime extends bc I love the Space Bros. The rest of the fight and Yuno's stupid power up will not be mentioned it makes no sense. where the hell did that second grimoire come from? why does he have a second grimoire? if the elf soul had truly been with him since childhood--which is the excuse we've given--their souls have either melded enough to be one or the elf kid went back with all the others. make up your mind tabata, the elf kid is either yuno or he isn't.

Hey! So your Furtana art (and art in general) always brings me such joy and I think I feel similarly about Finn as you do, i.e. can't really love canon him but I do like aspects of his character and therefore like my headcanon of him. So I just wanted to ask, what would you change about canon Finn to make him more easily likeable? What do you think are the best things about him, and do you have any headcanons you'd like to share? :) (could be Furtana related haha, or not)
hi!! am glad my art can make u happy (especially the furtana stuff, they really have become my comfort trio haha).
i do want to warn you that i'm not great at analysing characters (or anything else ngl my brain is often very empty), and i'm even worse at putting my thoughts into words, but i'll do my best for u :)
i think the main thing i would change isn't even an aspect of Finn himself, honestly. if anything, the most important change i'd want would be for the characters around him to hold him accountable for his actions. bc let's face it, Finn gets away with saying a lot of things. he's the only character i can think of rn who used two different slurs, in addition to the entirety of mash-off/ikag, and probably more things that i can't remember off the top of my head, and the only time i know that someone for sure made him actually think about the consequences of his words was Burt. also santana slapping him, but idk if that really counts. i know u just watched ikag so i don't really need to go into the fact that pretty much no one tries to knock some sense into him (the kurt/klaine aspect of the outing really irks me and i don't feel like getting into that here but ugh). with the r-word i think he did realise immediately that he was wrong to say it and i think he regretted it, but my point is. most people around him didn't hold him accountable for the hurtful things he said and did, so he was able to get away with doing things without really thinking about the gravity of his actions. and that's really frustrating, bc we see that burt yelling at finn does actually have an effect - it's clumsy but he does try to support kurt after that. and i think we see it in s4 with him defending unique when she is dead set on playing rizzo; he knows there are risks in letting her do so, but he is 100% willing to protect her to the best of his abilities. he's capable of growth, and i think he's also willing to learn, it just seems to take a lot for him to get there sometimes. which actually leads pretty well into why i like vb au furtana! the thing about santana is that she just,, doesn't take people's bullshit. she's stubborn and won't shy away from a fight, even if she stands no chance of winning, which means that growing up together, santana would've always been ready and willing to throw finn's mistakes in his face. very bluntly. it most definitely also means that finn and santana fought a lot as children - usually over dumb stuff bc, yknow, they were kids. but regardless of what it was, finn would come out of the conflict with a new understanding of what he did wrong and most importantly, why it was wrong for him to do x thing. which isn't to say that vb au santana had a fantastic moral compass as a child, bc she did also treat kurt (among others) like trash for a while, but her constant presence and bullshit detector play a big part in preventing vb au finn from turning into canon finn.
in terms of what i do like about him... i think it's kinda similar to your recent post about santana and how you like that she's cruel and messy (i do too! wasn't sure how to respond to that post bc words are hard but,,, its sth i enjoy exploring in vb au... just letting her be harsh and defensive at times... but that's a whole other thing lmao anyway back to finn). i like that he's flawed. i like that he's confused, that he doesn't really know what he wants in life, especially after high school. i like that he's insecure, that he lashes out at people (though sometimes his anger issues worry me and make me think that he needed therapy. tbh a lot of the glee characters needed therapy but that's a whole other post again), that he feels like the (stupid) high school hierarchy is extremely important, that he struggles to merge that part of his life with his love for the glee club. he feels grounded, yknow? i love me some character flaws that make them instantly relatable. but i think what i love about him the most is how kind he can be. it feels weird to type that right after bringing up some of his worst moments on the show, but he really does have some incredibly sweet moments with people. to me, his growth shows the most in s4, bc teacher!finn had some moments where you could just tell that even if he didn't know what he was doing, even if he was scared to be leading these kids by himself, he still cared about them so much. things like helping artie make grease happen, helping ryder with his dyslexia, trying to help the s4 newbies bond with each other, making sure the club didn't fall apart after their sectionals. i am still judging him for deciding to do gangnam style but that's unimportant rn. idk i'm really losing my train of thought now so i'll just finish with this: finn is a sweet but dumb boy. he has golden retriever/dumb ginger cat energy written all over him and i just desperately wish he had been given more chances to properly grow from his mistakes, instead of pretty much everyone (except burt hummel, king, icon) glossing over it.
one more thing tho! i am once again shamelessly self-promoting but i know that watching ikag was a struggle for u and i humbly offer my version of santana's coming out in hopes that it's a more pleasant experience for u...

So my idea for Thalia's 13th birthday. (Also I'm using she/they for Thalia)
Annabeth and Luke spent almost the whole day in making cake. They ask Chiron to give Thalia additional training so she doesn't suspect anything.
It's a 2 tier cake made from scratch so obviously they have a lot of work to do.
Luke has to give Annabeth a little stool bc she can't reach the counter 🥺🥺🥺
Also they have matching blue and pink aprons. Luke wears the pink one bc Annie said so.
They put a lot of effort, especially Annabeth but because of the fact that she is so little she makes messes more often than helping. Luke keeps her there anyway.
At one point there is a flour fight.
In the end then manage to do somewhat good cake. They put it in the fridge and go to Thalia's cabin. (It's right before dinner so they have to be very careful to not bump into Thalia)
During this whole time Thalia is basically training and internally dead from exhaustion.
Back to the blondies, they start putting stuff up and blowing balloons.
Annabeth tries to blow one but almost faints bc her lungs are not capable of that. After that she just puts them up and Luke is the one to blow them.
By the time they bring the cake back into cabin 1, its the end of dinner.
"Luke you are going to drop the cake!"
"No, I'm not! Calm down!"
"But u are!"
"I AM NOT!"
Thalia who came late to the dinner is fuming bc they think Annabeth and Luke left earlier without waiting for her on THEIR birthday!!
They ate quickly glaring at anyone who looks their way. Good luck to the campers.
When she finally come to their cabin, she is just complaining about how they are not family bc they forget about her and the birthday even tho Annabeth and Luke woke up early just to congratulate them.
Ofc both of them hear that and smirk at one another when Thalia opens the light and sees all the decorations and stuff.
Thalia almost cries at the cake, bc it's a little slanted and it's not completely cooled down like it's supposed to, but they can see all the work Annabeth and Luke put.
The little party is the nicest thing they have ever lived so far.
Luke takes a lot of photos of the room, cake, Thalia herself and ofc of the three of them.
At one point Thalia gets that both of them haven't eaten so the cakes is cut earlier than planned.
Both Annabeth and Luke put the a little bit cream from the cake on Thalia's cheeks and nose. (Idk if they do it in America but here that's a family tradition)
THATS SO CUTE GODS
Also, don't know if it's a thing in America, but here where I am it's a tradition to smash your face on the cake, either willingly or by having someone push your head into the cake, and I feel like thats something they might do if they are ready to pay the consequences
