Into the World - Kaji Fes. 2023 Day 2

Some more in-depth Kalafina thoughts inspired by several discussions in the reply section of my latest live report about Kaji Fes. 2023 Day 2. "Into the World" was probably the Kalafina cover that left the most lasting impression on me. From what the girls have shared in various interviews, this song represents a beautiful end to an eventful stage of life and a slow transition into uncharted territory. At the time it was written, Kalafina's disbandment and the subsequent start of their solo careers were probably on no one's radar but ironically, it couldn't have been a more perfect match for the whole situation. The final few performances of the song (when everyone involved must have already been aware of what was about to happen) have a particularly strong impact on me and the same can be said about the covers they have done as solo artists/FJ. This is easily my favourite cover because the strong extra vocals add so much texture to the song. It's one of those Kalafina tracks where I mostly prefer the studio version because the girls tend to sound a bit shaky/shouty during live performances so this was overall a bit more polished I think. The harmonies are really good here. Also, I loved seeing Keiko get so emotional towards the end (even though it did result in her getting a teeny, tiny bit shouty again :P)

"Magia" was my second-favourite Kala-cover. It worked wonderfully to put the focus on Hikaru and highlight her prowess as a singer which is unfortunately something that none of the other Kalafina songs of the evening managed to do. I wish they had chosen songs with a stronger emphasis on Hikaru's voice like "ARIA", "One Light", "Mata Kaze ga...", "in every nothing", etc... Also, I did have some issues with Joelle sounding a bit too overpowering during certain parts. There are Kalafina songs where she manages to blend in better but here, her vocals just stand out too much, especially when trying to harmonise with Keiko.

"storia" has never done Hikaru any favours I'm afraid and this performance is no exception. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE "storia" but that's mostly because I am obsessed with the WaKei chorus. Joelle does a good enough job here but as I have mentioned in my report, I am way too hung up on Wakana to ever be able to appreciate another singer stepping in for her during parts that I love.

I honestly don't remember much about "KNGNN" so I guess I will have to wait for the BD release. It's yet another song that doesn't exactly flatter Hikaru though so that's a shame.

As I have never felt a strong connection to "TTB", the performance doesn't really do anything for me.

On a random and more or less unrelated side note, I LOVED this moment of Keiko showing a tiny bit of vulnerability here at the very end of the concert. It's rare to see her in tears on stage.

And let's not forget that precious HiKei moment right after this. Them holding hands. Keiko leaning on Hikaru's shoulder. Keiko smiling brightly but clearly relieved that it's over - "owatta".

Hi there! Ive just wanted to say that ive been learning so much from ur blog, esp about palestine and I wanted to ask u some advice. Im from a country that is very actively supporting israel and actively showing imin support of palestine or donating to those causes could risk alot of things for me (atleast according to my parents). So far ive just been boycotting products that are on many boycott lists, but I want to be able to do more, and at the same time am terrified of what doing so could do to me. I feel awful having to think abt a future career being ruined, while thousands of gazans lose their lives, but I rlly dont know what to do. Is there anything I can do?

I live in Canada and the government here has been actively supporting the IOF and refuses to call what is happening to Palestinian people as a genocide -so I understand in terms of living in a country/settler state that is complicit and equally deplorable.

People who are supportive of Palestine have lost their jobs, and those who have protested IOF violence and terror are being called terrorists themselves -despite being on the right side of the now because Palestinian are being mercilessly genocided, and it is beyond heinous.

If boycotting is one of the only things you can do right now/is the most sustainable for you in the long-run -definitely keep boycotting -we shouldn't put our money in the pockets of those who directly fund genocides or who indirectly profit from them. All of these may not be something you can do, but I re-blogged this list just a while ago for those who are unable to donate [not just as students of course, but just generally]/what else you can do to support:

There are people out in the world who are wishing death to Palestinian people, and with whom are showing up at Free Palestine marches to harass people in support of a ceasefire -if there is more you can do now or in the future that is great -but don't think that by not doing everything on the list it makes you a bad person. I do highly encourage you to keep doing what you're doing because yes, many thousands of people in Gaza are suffering and are being killed and the least we can do is keep talking about it on social media, attending marches/protests when it is accessible to us, continuing to educate ourselves, staying informed, emailing Congress/Members of Parliament/people in positions of power in your government to demand a ceasefire, and so on.

Howzer + Aurelia Ch. 2 + 3

Howzer stole our hearts when he appeared in TBB, and I wanted to write a bit of a backstory for him. It begins with his newbie days during TCW and stretches to where we last see him in TBB. Enjoy his character arc and some heartwarming romance, action, adventure, yearning, angst, and growth.

2. Disillusionment

"Look sharp," Hex whispered, and Howzer stood up a bit straighter as Orn Free Taa exited the Senate chamber. Without a word, they both fell into step beside him, escorting him through the hallway. They marched smartly, DC-17s in hand, and it took all of Howzer's self-control to avoid staring at Taa's many quivering chins as he talked about his afternoon plans.

Once they arrived at the restaurant, they were dismissed to wait outside, and Howzer slumped against the building unceremoniously, groaning inwardly at his lot in life. Hex remained standing at attention next to him, and the judgment emanating from him was palpable.

"Why doesn't he have his own Twi'lek guards?" Howzer complained, pulling his helmet off. His hair had grown out a little from the standard military cut they received on Kamino, and it fell to his ears, across his forehead, in thick black pieces. He ran a hand through it, looking at Hex and continuing his protest, "Aren't they supposed to be fierce warriors or something? I mean, the ones back on Ryloth at least?"

Hex shifted his weight slightly; it was clearly not the first time he had heard these complaints. "This is our assignment. We are soldiers of the Republic, assigned to do whatever the Republic needs us to do. Would you like to take it up with the Captain?"

"No," Howzer sighed, rolling his head from one shoulder to the other, "I just didn't get the impression that our training would be preparing us to ensure that a Senator can eat all day long." He could have sworn he heard a quick laugh-turned-cough from Hex, but he decided not to push his luck.

A couple of female Twi'leks passed by on the sidewalk in front of them, and Howzer stood tall immediately, tucking his helmet under his arm and running a hand through his hair again.

"Hey, you two! How would you like a job?" he said, in an insufferably cheesy tone. "I'll hire you right here on the spot. Well, one of you. The other one can come to lunch with me."

Hex let out an audible groan then, and the Twi'leks looked at each other with a shared grimace. But Howzer was unfazed, "Now now, don't fight over it. I know it's a lot to take in all at once. Take your time, sort it out between yourselves, and let me know which one of you is the lucky lady who gets to hit the town with me."

At that, they simply turned and continued on their way, gliding down the sidewalk in a cloud of eyerolls and wrinkled noses. Howzer resumed his lean against the wall, sighing in defeat.

"Their loss."

Ch. 3 - Potential

Aurelia wiped the cloth across the bar counter mindlessly as she watched an hourglass-shaped BD-3000 luxury droid moving to the beat with a predictable series of motions, fully holding the clone captain's attention as he bopped along next to her. A smile crept onto Aurelia's face, accompanied by the mild fondness she always felt at the clones' behaviors.

She had worked at 79s for a few months, considering it a "place holder" while she figured out a more long-term career plan. She simultaneously had far too many aspirations at once while also feeling overwhelmed and paralyzed by all of them, settling instead to cater to the needs of a rowdy crowd most nights while she daydreamed about the possibilities.

"Whatcha thinkin about, beautiful?" came an exceedingly smooth clone voice, bringing her back to reality, and her eyes snapped into focus to see Pivot leaning on the bar across from her. She smiled, swatting her washcloth at him playfully.

"Just pining for your return, of course," Aurelia responded quickly, flipping the cloth over her shoulder and bending down to prepare his usual drink. He had been coming there long before she started, and he was as comforting as he was harmless. She had initially been put off by what seemed like advances, but when she realized there was nothing behind them other than flattery and fun, she relaxed and played along.

"Well, feast your eyes," Pivot answered, sliding some credits across the counter to her as she poured the drink from the shaker into a highball glass. She plopped a couple bright berries on the top and pushed it toward him.

"Consider them feasted."

Pivot laughed, giving her a playful salute as he scooped up his glass and made his way back to his squad in a corner booth.

"I mean, if you think about it, it seems like such a simple solution," Howzer said, gesturing abstractly with one hand. "I can't wait to show them what some real strategy looks like."

"I'm sure they'll be grateful," purred the Mirialan next to him, cupping her face in her hand and resting an elbow on the table, looking up at him with admiration.

"Well, it's what we were made for," he answered, puffing up a bit more. This had been going surprisingly well, and he fought to keep his composure. "So, any other plans tonight?"

She shook her head demurely, muttering something about unpacking some cargo crates.

"I've got a little something you can unpack," Howzer chortled, "If you need some practice."

"Ugh," came the reply, and she quickly excused herself without another word. He leaned back in the booth, allowing a brief sigh before regathering himself and rising to his feet. He ambled to the bar counter, scanning the room for any familiar faces long the way and seeing none. He missed Sprint, who was his usual companion when his romantic pursuits came up empty, and consoled himself by imagining what sort of missions his brother may have been enjoying.

"Can I get you anything?"

Howzer looked up, finding the bartender waiting patiently across from him, wiping a glass as she regarded him with a slightly tilted head. Now this he could work with. He leaned jauntily against the counter, flashing his roguish grin and turning on the charm.

"Listen, I know you probably have a lot of questions, but before we dive in, you can go ahead and take a moment to soak it all in. I'm sure you're wondering how you, of all people, managed to find the best-looking clone, right here in your own bar."

Aurelia smirked at the blatant irony of his phrase, fully prepared with a tongue-in-cheek response, "'Best-looking clone'? Did they teach you about irony on Kamino?"

"They taught us about everything," Howzer returned evenly, "So if you've got any questions, I'd be happy to let you in on all the mysteries of the galaxy." He raised one eyebrow with a distinctly fiendish air, eyes roving from her curly black hair to her full lips. Her nose was a bit beakish, but she had pretty eyes, dark and intelligent.

"Wow. What an offer," she marveled, pressing the back of a hand to her forehead as if about to faint. This came with the territory, sure, but could also become tiresome. She yearned for any conversation of substance, but was realizing more and more that this was not the atmosphere for that. "In the meantime... Can I get you anything?"

"I'll take a fizz, thanks, but what about you? What are your wildest dreams?" Howzer inquired, eager to continue their exchange.

"To sit under a tree on a cloudy day and read poetry from an actual book," Aurelia answered without missing a beat. She turned to get a bottle from the refrigerator behind her, missing the flash of surprise on Howzer's face. He looked serious for a moment, something working its way through his brain, but was back to his cocky little show when she turned back around.

"Wow," he bantered, "What refined taste you have. I'll get right on that." He exchanged his credits for the bottle, then offered a hand, "The name's Howzer."

"Aurelia," she responded, shaking his hand and secretly hoping his desire for attention had been satisfied.

"Aurelia," he echoed, trying it on for size, "Fancy name for a fancy lady. Alright, Aurelia. I'll be seeing you. Try to hold it together until we meet again." Howzer popped the cap from the bottle, flipped it toward her like a coin, gave her a wink, and sauntered off.

- Cere and Greez are neighbors, Merin works at the same school as Cere, and she meets Cal through her

- Din obviously adopts Grogu at some point, and Luke volunteers at the temple's Sunday school which is where he meets them(???)

- I feel like Luke would own a martial arts school, Leia becomes a politician like her mum, Anakin would be a robotics engineer

- Satine is prime Minister of Mandalore, Bo- Katan is either military or lawyer (she strikes me as the lawyer type), Sabine was going to join the military but ended up pursuing an artistic career, Korki wants to go into politics like his aunt

Anyway, since Cyberpunk 2077 continues to be the oldest verse here - a new synopsis is in order.

      A former Arasaka prodigy, she spent most of her time growing up in the arms of the Academy. Hailed as a prodigy, her netrunning skills are second to none, if she continued on Sayuri would have become a corporate legacy within no time. Most, if not all her implants are throwbacks to those former glory days or so many of her corpo allies would say. At the age of eighteen, she faked her death && lives under the alias, Ryūjin. It’s been rumored she has no understanding of her former surname nor will she allude to it, proclaiming whoever that girl was, she is dead. Most of her territory is within Westbrook, particularly Japantown, though she holds onto all of the region by proxy. She is a competitive woman that sought her claim as a fixer through her former career; a BD actress that specialized in grindhouse movies. Yes, everyone && no one has seen Sayuri in some shape or form. She is constantly swapping faceplates, thus it is easy for her to evade detection altogether. Her work is considered top of the line, premium, easily tapping into thousands && millions worth. If one decides to speak with her more in depth, she will remark it’s been a long time since she recognized herself in a mirror, but she’s never changed her eyes since then she would be lost forever.

How intense is her reconstruction? Here are the finer details of each implant

Multiple face plates, currently sporting a rather infamous gravure model’s look, during her days as a villainess in BD’s she had a personal faceplate created && trademarked.

Rippers, rose gold claws

Full body sculpt, outer epidermis is enhanced to make lacerations difficult - covered in a soft subtle sheen 

Nanowire, a relic from her days with Arasaka

Deep dive port, she covers it primarily with her hair opting for medium to longer lengths so it remains secretive

       She is frequently seen within the Afterlife, during the prologue, Sayuri can be seen ordering sake bombs for her own crew. By Act Two, her office can be found within a smoky karaoke den where she jokes, there is no way in hell she would let anyone know her actual location. While remaining competitive edge, she often breaks deals with other fixers, though this is to secure her position as an elite employer. High paying jobs that are worth the risk, it’s something she prides herself in but will rescue anyone in her crew that is in danger, safety is important to her.  Personal items often showcase she has a pension for fast cars && bikes, loves disco && dancing, her former cyberdeck is covered in vintage stickers from old bands no one remembers. There is also a hint she still holds onto her traditional roots as she is prone to being superstitious && seemed to speak with Sandayu Oda on a regular basis before her vanishing, even remarking they sparred a few times - she won, naturally.

🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 thank you. ive always wanted a black cat named either princess or salem and i thought it would make sense since its a ghost hunter au (even tho i skipped over all the ghost stuff so my post wasnt a million words long) with terry not around i feel like the milkoviches would love playing with animals. Salem is a very adventurous, people-loving cat! you know, the kind of cat people say were a dog in their past life. of course she loves the gallaghers too! even carl makes a point to be nice to her (after, when she was a kitten, ian beat him up for making a joke) but the milkoviches dont really get to show affection ever, so they love getting to play with her and scratch her lil belly and give her treats they stole from the pet store. they all adore her but ofc after ian and mickey get together and he comes over to the gallaghers a shitton, mickey becomes her 2nd dad. he goes to the top of her favorite people list. nobody else plays with her the way he does! hes not afraid to get a little rough, but he knows whats signs to look out for when a cat is not playing/irritated. shes still young and she loves playing!! imagine toddlers who like getting thrown around because its fun, shes like that. she gets kicked out and put in a different room when they fuck, and she uses this time to get in as much trouble as possible, knock shit over, and annoy anyone else in the house. ALSO she LOVES liam!! they literally grow up together and fiona teaches him how to treat animals so by the time hes like 5, she moves from sleeping with ian to sleeping with liam

i imagined ian and mandy meeting at the same time, so when salem is 2 that would be s3 ish. when he first found her, ian had just started his job and scrounged up every penny he could find to take her to a low cost clinic to get spayed and vaxxed. other than being skinny and dehydrated (and ofc separated from her mom as a kitten) she was in surprisingly good shape! now shes so used to being spoiled by everyone! ian LOVES taking care of others and being of service so he really found a home in Salem, treating her like his kid and giving her the best life possible. i definitely think once he gets diagnosed with BD, he pays (with mostly mickeys money lbr) for her to be his emotional support animal and takes her to as many pet friendly places at possible!

like i said she becomes kinda the mascot of the ghost hunting youtube channel they eventually start. its not something they see as a career or anything, they do it as a hobby, but they gain decent attraction and make extra money on the side from ads and a few brand deals. ofc Salem is the reason everyone watches the channel 🙄 she's in pretty much every video, and they chose her as their icon bc 1. black cat spooky duh 2. she brought them together 🥺 3. she really does show up A LOT in videos, especially when they're not urban exploring/hunting and at home recording the historical backgrounds and debriefings for each location. also yes they do urban exploring as well, thats mainly mickey and mickey and whatever milkovich wants to tag along and graffiti an abandoned building. imagine a combination of The Watcher and Dan Bell (omfg now im imagining them doing Another Dirty Room???? 😭 they would be so offended at paying money for rooms worse than their own back in the southside) but with less production value

Hi All! I’m back! Older and wiser!

It’s been 10 years since I’ve written on this thing and believe you me, my fitness journey has been that: A Journey. If you haven’t been with me for 10 years ago…welcome to my fitness blog!

So many ups and downs in not just my weight, but my emotions. 10 years ago, I was 24 living at home in New Jersey working in New York. Now I’m 34 living in Los Angeles. I moved out here 6.5 years ago to work as a makeup artist on set and it’s been a blessing and a struggle. I’ve grown a lot in 10 years as one should. Although I have worked on fitness sets, short films and clients, I’ve tried to balance these things with self-care (fitness & rest) and work always won… with 3 jobs then and now… it’s been exhausting. Let’s catch up friends.

When it comes to fitness, I’ve had a friend who said, ‘ if you are not working out, you are not happy.’ And even though he only knew me for a short time, he was absolutely correct. I lost sight of that in the hustle of the first 2 years here in LA. I’ve done little things I used to do in my 20s, like pole dancing and going to the gym (I had no idea what I was doing and…) finances ultimately were a struggle. However, I’m proud of the process and progress. I went from sharing a studio, to sharing a one bedroom, to having my own room in a 2bd 1b, to my own room and bathroom in a 2 bd 2b, to ultimately having my own studio with my own little fur baby, Emilio.

The first 2 years were hard and my weight increased and health declined. I ate terribly, was depressed (it still comes in waves), stressed and exhausted. It was 2018, I weighed the most I’ve ever weighed at the time (148 lbs!) AND I was turning 30. I realized I had to make a change when I tried on my bridesmaid’s dress for my sister’s wedding and the chronic splitting of jeans (2 to be exact)😂. It had to be drastic and an investment. My friend, Dana, recommended a gym. When I went in for a trial, I didn’t realize it was a CrossFit gym… oh boy. My goal: fit in the bridesmaid dress and not have my chichos (Dominican for fat rolls) show in my dress.

I began March 2018 and the wedding was in November 2018. So I had 7 months to fit into the dress, totally doable. I made little rules for myself. Go to the 30 min class early in the am before work 3 times a week. Drink your protein shake, swap out things in your diet like whole grain instead of bread, no cheese, meal prep veggie burger/sandwiches. I lost 10-11 lbs by July! I didn’t try the dress on until then and it fit almost perfectly! I began to plateau at 137 lbs and my coach, graduated me to the weightlifting class. He also recommend I do the fitness/diet challenge October 2018. The wedding was one month away! I will be the first to admit, I wasn’t the healthiest in those 5-6 weeks. I lost 8 lbs the first week (detox week) was almost at a faint until they said I can eat goat cheese. Goat cheese to me was what spinach is to Popeye. I regained energy. I skipped meals, drank a lot water, worked out 3 days a week… did all the things (I don’t recommend all of it). I fit in my dress for my sisters wedding and weighed 127lbs!(Really wish I took photos of my progress, but I was embarrassed, however in the pics below I can see a difference in 5 months)

Fitness, career and private life was on the up and up. When you feel good, your good energy becomes contagious. I met a boy on the plane to the wedding (I know a disgustingly cute meet-cute)and we dated for a year and a 2 months. During that time, I kinda strayed away from being consistent, went on birth control and ate terribly. I gain all the weight back and then some to 152lbs! This was my most heavy. I broke up with him, feeling sad and feeling like I lost myself in the relationship. I wasn’t happy and it was mostly me. I can admit that. The first week we broke up, I lost 8 lbs. I was angry running and angry boxing because I was sad and mad. Understandably.

Shortly after, I began to date a boy from CrossFit. Finally, someone who had things in common fitness-wise. We can do this together! The pandemic happened a month after dating and we did fitness things together: hiking and running. I fit in writing, painting, dieting and keeping a consistent little workout routine with fitness apps that came out at the time. I got down to 142 lbs. Ultimately, the pandemic emotionally brought us down and after dating for a year and 2 months, I called it quits. We weren’t growing in love and happiness. It was hard. Was the pandemic a factor? A small one. Before we broke up in April 2021, we signed up to do a Spartan Race together in October. We remained friends so we can do it together. He also had to make me sign up because I combated making the point that I always hurt myself doing obstacle 5Ks. None the less, I signed up and vowed to get to work.

That single summer before turning 33, I hiked, ran 5K sand did some weight lifting. I didn’t know exactly how to train for a Spartan Race. So when we did do the race in Big Bear, CA, I fell off the monkey bars hurting my right shoulder and the ground fracturing my right scapula! I was not prepared at all, however, I finished the race in pain without completing the obstacles. It was the next day when I went to urgentcare where I found out I fractured this big ass bone.

So that was October 2021, I told myself once I heal and I get the green light from my doctor. I’m going to be stronger than I ever was! At this time, I began working Front Desk at a spa, couldn’t freelance doing makeup with a broken wing. Luckily, they were caring and understanding. Massages and spa amenities were a big part in my recovery!

If you’ve stayed with me this far, I salut you and I’m almost caught up. Promise!

I worked so hard in 2022 to build the strength back in my shoulder and in my legs. I ran the fasted 5K in May 2022 (28 mins) then shifted my focus to weight lifting. The rules for my successful consistency will written on a different post as I plan to be more consistent than my younger self!😝

My goal was to build strength and get back on the mountain to snowboard. I hadn’t done it since before I moved to LA. Again, finances were a part of the delay. The hard work paid off when I got to go in January 2023! Such a great time, I didn’t hurt myself and my legs did have the stamina! I’m was so proud and happy. I finally felt like myself!

We are almost all caught up, but I will stop here. I’m writing this because fitness and health is truly an up and down journey especially for the working class. Some people don’t make self care and fitness a priority for them due to becoming parents, focusing on careers and not being able to financial invest in it. Because this is important to me I wanted to share, and clearly, a lot has happened.

I will post my workouts, my progress and my tips. I’m clearly not an expert, except an expert on struggling with consistency. I’m sure you on some level can relate.

I haven’t updated you from Jan 2023 until now (May 2023)… something big happened to me that caused me to reanimated this journey. I just wanted to use this post as a starting point and hopefully you all enjoyed it!

Athena Feng.

Born on 15th January 2056, Athena is the only child of the former politician Victor Feng and current CEO of Kang Tao corp. Lily Ma (formerly known as Lily Feng). 

Due to Lily’s reluctance in conceiving a child, Athena’s accidental birth brought great disagreements between the couple, eventually leading to a mutually-agreed divorce. 

In order to take care of his daughter, Victor later resigned from his political career and took up his father’s business in mechanical repairing. Two years after the divorce, Victor met Angel Lasser - a former member of the Mox. The two married a year later, with Angel bringing her daughter Chanel into the family.

The girls would fight frequently for the affection of their parents, like normal sisters would.

After graduating university with a degree of Computer Science, Athena took on a temporary job as a freelance BD technician, where she would acquire raw braindance footages for editing. 

Currently a BD technician for the Mox, Athena hopes to work in a major braindance company one day.
