I had a great weekend running the First Aid / Trauma for @forward_assist_training’s Advance Carbine Course over the weekend weekend. I’m looking forward to working with them in the future as I begin to work on other certifications for medical training and firearms instruction in the near future. When you appreciate the cold, sitting there watching the water boil for your coffee and breakfast. Love adding @old_trapper beef jerky to my @mtnhouse biscuits and gravy for a hearty breakfast. Using my @snowpeak_official stove and cup to heat things up. Using the @kleankanteen bottle for storing water and if needed, melt snow and catch water to safely heat it since it’s single lined. Continuing with National Preparedness Month covering First Aid Kits: If you own a first aid kit, it’s a great idea to inspect them every six months. Inspecting them at the beginning and half way through the year helps keep you up to date on meds, Over The Counter (OTC) meds, equipment, supplies, gloves if they need to be replace due to expiration or no longer serviceable. Any items considered no longer safe for use such as gauze, tourniquets, etc can be used for training purposes once replaced. Better to be safe and know before needing it and you can’t use it. I managed to get some trigger time over the weekend with friends and their family overseeing the first aid response if something happened. It’s an honor when I’m asked to fill the roll. I recently ditched the tackle box kit and moved up to the @maglitetactical Tactical backpack in the medical configuration with three removable pouches made by @bdstacticalgear which I’ve had the honor of using their gear for a few years now. I will be doing a video on it with greater detail on the contents and the quality of the pack. I’ve got everything from trauma related items to the minor stuff I’m more likely to deal with and in a smaller package than the tackle box taking up less room in the vehicle and easier to carry even more essential items that I had to keep close by in the past. I wanted to thank everyone that came along with me on this roller coaster ride we call 2020. Had some ups and downs, forest fires, restrictions to the mountains and forest due to the virus, fires and state mandates. I hope like many that 2021 will see up out of this. Some positives: I had people reaching out to me saying my medical/first aid posts saved them during an injury, the fire extinguisher post prevented their vehicle from full engulfment, the trail marker post kept them from getting lost and most important were the thanks for calming people at the beginning of the uncertainty of the virus getting people prepared late in the game or alternatives when things were hard to find. It’s what I’m here for. Something I made over the years for my solo and long distance hikes in the backwoods, as well as off-roading trips and for a few friends here and there. Very similar to the panel markers used by military forces for identifying allied or coalition vehicles IFF (Identify Friend or Foe). The first frame shows my pack at the same distance with and without the panel on it to show how visible it is. The third and forth frames show the overall size and how it can be used with a branch or trekking pole to signal at a distance especially in thick brush. I’ve made them with orange nylon parachute material and @atwoodrope paracord so it stays light and easily packable. The second pick is one I just made so it can be used as a pack cover to make yourself visible on hikes and easily mounted to a trekking pole or stick for signaling. The third picture shows a marker panel I made for my Toyota 4Runner in the event I’m stuck somewhere and making it easier for rescuers to find me. The fourth picture is one of the panels I keep in my @bdstacticalgear pack.
