The Doon School

Welcome to The Doon School. We are a school which specializes in all boys boarding education for pupils aged 12-18. The school is probably the only All India school with applications from almost every state each year, as well as from Indian families overseas. Established in 1935, The Doon School is one of India’s finest schools, with a strong intellectual heartbeat. St George College

St. George’s College (Mussoorie), is a premier boarding school in Mussoorie, in the state of Uttarakhand, India, affiliated to the ICSE council. The school, an all-boys residential and non-residential institution, spreading over 400 acres (1.6 km2) of land, was founded in 1853 by the Capuchin Fathers and entrusted to the Society of the Brothers of St. Patrick (Ireland) in 1894. hridyanshu shares a grandfather with bhaskor & swapnil. his father was the youngest of three sons and uninterested in any political aspirations; he bought a tea farm instead. as the only son ( after three daughters ) hridyanshu was expected to take over the business -- but he wanted to become a photographer. an unexpectedly swift marriage shifted his responsibilities. despite the ill-timing, the scandalous wedding did bring hridyanshu’s father the heir to his darjeeling tea trade back.

rebati dutta was a rising star in indian classical dance. there was a rumor that the first time she’d performed at the russian consulate in kolkata, three different generals proposed to her. but her eyes had been drawn to the photographer in the front row. it was a whirlwind affair, seemingly ending dutta’s career. rebati narayan would eventually return to the dance stage as a choreographer and director of her own dance academy. both meenakshi and damini were trained in odissi style of dance.

prithuvi’s parents immigrated to the united states in the early 1970s; they opened their own restaurant with money inherited from prithuvi’s grandfather that became reasonably successful over the years. his grandfather funded his education as well -- he met ( and promptly fell for ) beautiful and well-spoken meenakshi while studying at harvard. but it was damini he had to convince of his affections before their marriage could take place.

bhaskor’s son and the current duke of west bengal, koushik is an effective leader only because he’s a really good follower. he was careful to fill his cabinet with decades of expertise ( including damini before her marriage ) for his particular strategy of political play: listen to the brightest minds because a) they were probably right and b) if they weren’t, they took the fall. luckily, none have failed him yet. he wears his duties seemingly effortlessly, but he’d also be the first to credit his wife for her support in his work and her tireless efforts as mother to their son and daughter ( uncast bc im lazy ).

the bangladeshi socialite turned duchess-consort handled everything gracefully. her nature was sweet and amenable; she was a rather perfect match politically and in temperament when introduced to koushik. the two didn’t live together until a few years after their marriage so komal could have time to complete her mba. she serves on the boards of several non-profits, most focused on increasing access to education in rural areas with a specific interest in girls’ education.

though older than koushik, as the son of the younger narayan brother, swapnil, aarul always knew he would only ever be meant for viceroy. and he was genuinely pleased with this knowledge -- all of the connections and influence with half the effort and responsibility. after serving in the indian air force, aarul returned to west bengal upon his father’s retirement. though he never married, he’s had several girlfriends throughout the years.

aarul’s latest girlfriend, though the first to have made it to “live in.” there’s nothing wrong with her by any means: shagun is a whip-smart, modern bengali delhiite. as a journalist she’s already one of the more intelligent partners aarul’s has introduced. but still, none of the narayans are comfortable with the age difference OR their live in status and thus, tend to treat her coldly.

farhan fell in love with damini over tutoring sessions in secondary school. it seemed like fate when they both ended up in delhi within 10 km of each other; she was studying economics at delhi university while he completed his engineering degree from iit delhi. they’d meet for chai, then eventually films until finally in her second year he brought her flowers outside her hostel. he’d been ready to wait for her for the rest of his life, but damini knows now she made him wait too long. 70th Miss Universe: India's Harnaaz Sandhu crowned Miss Universe, won the title by answering this question

National Desk: The crown of Miss Universe 2021 is adorned by Harnaaz Sandhu of India. The 70th Miss Universe pageant took place on 12 December this year in Israel. More than 75 beautiful and talented girls took part in the preliminary stage of this competition, but only women from three countries could make it to the top 3, one of them was Harnaaz Sandhu of India.

Leaving South Africa and Paraguay behind, India's Harnaaz Sandhu took the crown of the cosmic beauty. Dia Mirza also arrived from India to be a part of this ceremony. Urvashi Rautela judged the contest of Miss Universe 2021 this time.

Answering this question won the title:

All the top three contestants were asked what advice would you give to women facing pressure? To this question Harnaaz Sandhu replied that you have to believe that you are unique and your thinking makes you beautiful. Come out, learn to speak for yourself because you are the leader of your own life. With this answer, Harnaaz won the title of this year's Miss Universe 2021 from Sandhu.

Who is Harnaaz Sandhu?

Harnaaz Sandhu hails from Chandigarh, Punjab and is a model by profession. 21-year-old Harnaaz has participated in modeling and many pageants, despite this, she also kept full focus on her studies. Harnaaz won the title of Miss Chandigarh in the year 2017. After this she won the title of Miss Max Emerging Star India. After winning these two prestigious titles, Harnaaz participated in Miss India 2019 and then she reached the top 12.Along with modeling, Harnaaz has also ventured into acting. India Should Be Cautious About West Instigation: Analysts

The recent border clash, the biggest military confrontation between China and India in four decades that led to casualties on both sides, has brought the past flashpoint Galwan Valley into the spotlight.

After India blamed China for the clash by claiming the violent face-off was due to China's attempt to change the status quo in the area, and that the Indian army's activities were within the Indian side, Chinese experts stressed Thursday that China owns sovereignty over the area, and warned them not to be blind to history and mislead the public.

Whether judging from China's historic rights to the land and the Line of Actual Control, established to create a demarcation line and to ease tensions between the nations after the 1962 war, there is no dispute over the valley's sovereignty.

Observers also noted that India should be cautious about those countries that encourage confrontation, even or a fight between China and India, as they profit from strained China-India relations and maintain their hegemony.

No Dispute

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at Thursday's routine press briefing that the situation along the China-India border is stable and under control. The two sides agreed to ease the situation as soon as possible.

"Multiple accounts from the Qing Dynasty [1644-1911] and Western literature have recorded that the Galwan Valley was China's territory. Based on the principle of 'historic rights,' China has jurisdiction over the valley area," Zhang Yongpan, a research fellow of the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Thursday.

In nearby Shyok River in west Galwan River, India built an airport, constructed bridges, roads and villages. For years, the country has been seeking to break into Chinese land, Zhang said.

Zhang noted that the valley, which was also a flashpoint in the 1962 war, is of great strategic importance for both India and China. "Maybe India thinks it could provide abundant water resources and is an important channel connecting China and South Asia."

"India's actions in the region also suggest that it intends to strengthen its control over Ladakh and Kashmir. India's actions proved that it wants to enhance strength against Pakistan and China, and gain favorable geographical advantages," Zhang said.

A person close to the Galwan Valley told the Global Times that the area looks similar to the pictures of the Bangong Lake area, which is beautiful, but with a harsh natural environment.

Strong winds are very common, and vegetation is scarce. Cotton-padded clothes are needed during the day, and thicker clothes are needed at night.

The person said the area is sparsely populated, mostly Tibetans, and villages are often more than 100 kilometers apart.

A source familiar with the standoff told the Global Times on Thursday that Chinese side's military equipment was obviously superior, which is acknowledged also by the Indian troops.

Dragon and Elephant Dance

India wants peace but is capable of giving a befitting reply if provoked, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday, his first comments on the border clash, Indian media reported.

Bali Ram Deepak, director of the Centre for Chinese and Southeast Asian Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, told the Global Times that Modi is indicating that India doesn't want escalation, but India can draw redlines as far as protecting territorial integrity is concerned.

Analysts said China and India do not want to repeat the Doklam standoff, but the West wants to be onlookers and instigators of the "dragon and elephant dance."

On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke to Modi by phone, during which he discussed the situation at the Line of Actual Control, among other things, media reported.

Earlier, a US State Department spokesperson said, "We are closely monitoring the situation between Indian and Chinese forces along the Line of Actual Control."

Qian Feng, the director of the research department at the National Strategy Institute of Tsinghua University, warned that the clash adds a new reason for the US to sow discord between China and India, and draw India into confrontation with China.

Echoing Qian, Tian Shichen, vice president of think tank Grandview Institution, said this is an opportunity for the US to woo India and drive a wedge between China and India. But India has adopted a non-aligned policy, believing that it has more to gain from neutrality.

"India should be able to make its own decisions based on its own interests," Tian said.

In recent years, the Modi government has been pushed by its nationalism and drawn from the West, playing many tricks along the border. "But compared to the Indian military, Modi's statement is prudent, showing that he understands that peace is the mainstream of bilateral ties," Zhang said.

India has been sending reinforcements to the site, as military vehicles were spotted on Wednesday on their way to the border region of Ladakh, Berlin-based video news agency Ruptly reported on Wednesday.

Chinese experts said India's frontline troops are a force to be reckoned with, but India's military culture may hinder their combat capabilities, highlighted by their poor discipline, mixture of imported weapons and lackluster logistics support. This has been reflected in many accidents in the past, like the fatal fire that broke out on its aircraft carrier in 2019, and the submarine explosion in 2013.

National Day of Russia Celebrated By BRICS And ICMEI Together

New Delhi: To mark the National Day of Russia, “Congratulation to Russia” an international webinar, a first-of-its-kind initiative to strengthen the bonds of friendship, stood as a testimony to the fact that true friendships, founded on love, trust and faith, continue to grow, even over the longest distances.

Webinar jointly organized by BRICS International Forum and International Federation of Indo Russian Youth Clubs with the support of Embassy of Russian Federation in India, Russian Centre of Science & Culture, Asian Academy of Film & Television and Amicable Diplomatic Club. Digital sessions were attended and conducted with the support of the public organisations. Eminent speakers and experts shared their thoughts and feelings for Russia by connecting digitally to congratulate Russia on the eve of Russian National Day on June 11th, 2020 at Zoom invitation.

This sojourn took place on a digital platform and was, primarily, divided into two sessions. Beautifully stringing the different historic events that took place and shaped the diplomatic relations, Sandeep Marwah, President, Asian Academy of Film & Television (AAFT) chaired the first session and establishing the dynamics of the conversation, passed on the baton to Sergey Fandev, Director, RCSC Mumbai and former Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar, President, Institute of Global Studies, followed by Dr. Vijay Jolly, Senior BJP Leader.

Mikhail Ktitorov, First Secretary, conveyed the message of H.E. Mr. Nikolay Kudashev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to India, stating that event is an inspiring initiative that people to people contact and mutual affinity are the key drivers of friendship and solidarity.

Enlightened by their words of wisdom, the session continued with the message from Natalia Poklonskaya, Deputy of the State Duma of Russia, Ramdas Athawale, Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India and with the presence of Tatyana Lebedeva, Russian Athlete and Former Senior Senator at the Russian Parliament and Aleksey Davidovsky, Analysist and Vice President, BRICS-IF. The first session concluded with the beautiful words of Purnima Anand, followed by the wishes conveyed to Russia by the youth leaders.

The second session was opened and chaired by Dvoryanov Sergey, President, Amicable Diplomatic Club, Moscow, who adeptly talked about Indo-Russian relations and thereafter, opened the platform to hear more from Dhwani Jain, President and Founder, Karma Foundation, Bhumika Bakshi Bhatt, President and Founder, Triveni Memorial Foundation and Sourabh Agarwal, Founder, Stevia Knowledge Group.

Greetings shared by Fedor Rozovsky, Director of Russian Centre of Science & Culture, New Delhi and prominent personalities from Russian Civil Organsiation.

AirAsia to Resume Manila - Saigon Flights; Launch Clark

AirAsia has confirmed plans to resume flights between Manila and Saigon, and will also increase domestic operations within Philippines. The Saigon service, which will commence on 29 March 2020, will be AirAsia’s 16th international destination from Manila. AirAsia Philippines CEO, Ricky Isla, said, “We are pleased to announce our newest services to Ho Chi Minh city after being held over for eight months. As an ASEAN airline, we aim to increase regional connectivity and to provide more business and leisure opportunities in Vietnam to our AirAsia guests.” To celebrate the resumption of its Saigon flights, AirAsia is offering all-in promotional fares from as low as P1,499 for BIG Loyalty Members from 24 to 27 February 2020, for travel between 29 March 2020 and 30 September 2020.

AirAsia will also launch a new route from Clark to Tagbilaran, and increase the frequency of multiple existing domestic routes from Clark and Cebu in time for the busy summer period. The Clark-Tagbilaran route complements AirAsia Philippine’s existing route to Bohol from Manila. Flights to and from Bohol now operate at the Panglao International Airport, replacing the old Tagbilaran airport. The pristine beaches of Panglao are just 15 minutes away from the new airport. Japanese cultural troupe in Manipur Sangai Festival, 2019

Amidst widespread protests and boycotts, the 10th edition of Manipur Sangai Festival, 2019 kick started on 24th November 2019 with many foreign dignitaries at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT), Palce Compund, Imphal East, Manipur, India. Its cultural event saw participation by artists from across the state of Manipur and the country as well as foreign countries namely Thailand, Bangladesh and Japan. In addition to this, many other countries took part in exhibiting their products for sale and display during the festival which is organised to boost tourism in this lush green , beautiful unexplored land in the North Eastern part of India sharing its border with Myanmar and the only way to connect India to South East Asia.

It's for the first time that Japan took part in the cultural event of the Manipur Sangai Festival. A cultural team of 20 people came all the way from Japan to Manipur to take part in the festival which had been celebrated from 24th November to 2nd December 2019. The team led by Mr. Tokio Hasegawa included drummers, Japanese paper making artist, graphic designer, journalist, priest, few family members, etc.

Mr. Hasegawa, director, Mithila Museum, Oike, Tokamachi, Niigata is a well known personality and an internationally acclaimed artist. He is a singer, composer and orchestrator.

The team of drummers called “koyu” include Mr. Daichi Goto, Mr. Kazuma Tanigawa, Mr. Kosuke Egashira, Ms. Suzuka Yoshino, Mr. Ryota Yasuda, and Mr. Hiro Matsumura.

Ms. Hitomi Nishimura is a well known Japanese journalist who has various publications on homeless Japanese to her credit. She has special interest in shamanism, collection of folk tales from different places and care for elderly people. She has already visited various places of India including Sikkim and Meghalaya. This visit to Manipur is first time for her. It was unfortunate that one of her luggage was misplaced in the airport though luckily it was received two days later.

Mr. Tetsuya Takizawa is a great artist who is famed for making Japanese traditional paper Izugahara “ Washi “ (wa means Japanese and shi means paper). Izugahara paper is a generic term for the paper which was widely produced around Izugahara are of Nishiaizu, Fukushima Prefecture.

For a long time, Izugahara paper was used as purveying papers for the Aizu clan. Paper production ended in the Izugahara region around 1970. In recent years a renewal project to revitalize paper making has been carried out several times, and around 2017, young people from Nishiaizu and artists like Mr. Takizawa have taken over the project and restored it.

Mr. Satoru Nihei is a highly talented graphics designer who has lived and worked as an artist for more than 20 years in the United States before working as a freelance in Japan at the moment. Educated at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan, Mr. Nihei has various exhibitions, workshops and recognitions to his credit. His work has been included in several national and international collections and exhibitions such as Graphic Matters, Breda, the Ntherlands (2017), Jazz in the Ruins, Gliwice, Poland (2018), Shenzhen International Poster Festival, Shenzhen, China (2018) to name a few.

Mr. Munna Hasegawa, son of Mr. Hasegawa, is another great artist. He is actively involved in arranging various cultural events in and outside Japan. His dedication and sincerity to his work is highly appreciated.

Just recently, a team of artists and officials including few others numbering 24 in total went to Japan to show cultural performances at various events that took place in various cities such as Tokyo, Karia, Niigata, Kyoto, Tsuruga and Osaka.

As a part of cultural exchange programme, the Japanese team had cordially accepted the invitation from Art n Culture Department, Government of Manipur. During the communication, he informed Mr. Dharmadas Sharma, Deputy Director, Art n Culture Department about the visa issues as Manipur was found to be blacklisted by the Indian Embassy in Tokyo. So the department had to send additional documents to Japan till last moment for smooth deliverance of required visa and this was not so easy due to long distance and also limited time. The news of visa issuance came only few days ahead of actual travel by the team from Narita airport to Delhi.

The team arrived Manipur by Air India flight on 25th afternoon. Due to some misplacement of luggage of one of the team members, the team came out from the airport at around 4.30 pm, few hours after the scheduled time. The very same evening, the musicians who were mainly drummers gave an awe-inspiring performance at the packed auditorium of BOAT. Though they were asked to take rest and perform the next day as they had just arrived Manipur, the team was ready to perform saying Japan is 24 hours active. What a spirit!!!

It is not an exaggeration to say that the impressive sounds of the different Japanese traditional musical instruments including the high pitched shimedaiko (daiko is drum in Japanese), low pitched miyadoudaiko, light weight okedoudaiko, the bamboo flute shinobue, chappa (cymbal like instrument) and atarigane (the instrument played with a stick with a deer horn on top) took the audience to another world.

The team took some rest on 26th. In the afternoon, they strolled around the nearby market area, including the “ima keithel’ ( Mother’s Market, in Manipuri ) and did some shopping of local products.

On 27th, I joined the team for a sight seeing trip to Sendra and Loktak Lake of Bishenpur District, which is around 48 km from Imphal city. On the way, we first stopped at Maibam Lotpa Ching (Red Hill in English), Nambol where there are Japanese War Memorial and Imphal Peace Museum. Maibam Lotpa Ching is an important historical place where the British and the Japanese soldiers fought during the fierce Battle of Imphal during World War II. More than 70000 Japanese soldiers laid down their lives, fighting in support of Indian National Army (INA) of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose against the British.

We prayed for the departed souls of Japanese soldiers who lost their lives during War on the soils of Manipur. Mr. and Mrs. Nagara of Kuonji Temple, Gunma Ken, Japan also were in the team. They specially came to offer prayers at this place for those brave soldiers who died during the war.

The drummers performed in front of the war memorial as an offering. Everybody was quite in awe on their energy and untiring spirit.

The only female drummer among the group, Ms. Suzuka Yoshino played the drum as nicely and as energetic as the other male artists.

The best part of this was they were all school going children. At such tender age, they gave such a powerful performance. What a talent it was!!!

The War Memorial at Maibam Lotpa Ching was built in 1994 to mark the 50th anniversary of Battle of Imphal.

Imphal Peace Museum is a war museum on the memories of Battle of Imphal. It was inaugurated only in June this year to mark 75th anniversary of Battle of Imphal.

We reached Sendra Resort at around 1.30 pm where we took lunch. We enjoyed yummy Chinese lunch at Classic Hotel. Everyone enjoyed the scenic Loktak Lake which is the largest fresh water lake in the North East Indian region.

On the way back, we stopped by at Indian National Army (INA) museum at Moirang in Bishenpur. This is another important historical site where Subhas Bose’s INA flag was unfurled on 14th April, 1944. Special thanks to Mrs. Mrinashree, Assistant Curator, INA, Art n Culture Department who made special arrangement for the team to see the memorial complex despite being late. Though the official timing of the memorial was till 4pm only, it was already 4pm while we were at Sendra and it took another 10-15 minutes to reach the memorial.

November 28th was devoted for rehearsal for a special collaborative work between Japan and Manipur. I and my husband took Mr. Hasegawa to TOM TV office, Uripok, Imphal West for a special interview to be broadcasted in the local cable network.

Department of Art n Culture, Government of Manipur had arranged a luncheon on 29th November at Government Dance College. Pre lunch, there was a simple programme whereby our Japanese guests were felicitated with handloom made traditional Manipuri shawl by Mr. G. Dharmadas Sharma who is also in charge as Principal of the College as our honourable Culture Minister was not in town and also Director Mr. Aribam Shivadas Sharma whose father died just the previous day could not be present. We took the opportunity to express our gratitude to Mr. Om Prakash Ray who had come from Delhi to be with the Japanese team as he happens to be a close friend of Mr. Hasegawa. Thanks to Svetlana Yumnam who provided homely stay to Mr. Ray and for taking good care of him during his Imphal visit.

Lunch was served traditionally in plantain leaves. Local cuisines including chagempomba (a dish made using natto, Japanese word for hawaizaar, fermented soyabeans), maroi thongba (neera leaves curry), chaakhao (locally grown aromatic Manipuri black rice), etc were specially prepared for our special guests. Though most food items were a bit hot and spicy, I believe our guests must have felt the flavor and taste of Manipur.

When the daikos and chappa from the land of rising sun are played together with the Langden of the jeweled land, there simply is an electrifying effect and everybody was left spellbound. That’s what happened in the evening of 29th November 2019 at BOAT.

In the evening of 29th, the much awaited artistic collaboration of the two art forms of Japan and Manipur started with the thundering beats of Japanese and Manipuri percussion which the 2000 plus audience at BOAT welcomed with loud nonstop cheers. The Director, Tourism Department was so overwhelmed that without any prior preparation and plan, he came forward on stage to felicitate the talented performers of both Japan and Manipur with Manipuri traditional stole. Then it was followed by the soothing music and magical voice from Mr.Hasegawa playing rubab (a musical instrument) along with the mesmerizing voice from Mrs. Angella Yengkhom. This was accompanied by Guru Gurumayum Loken Sharma on pung (Manipuri drum), oja Brajakumar Laishram on flute, Mr. Munna Hasegawa on synthesizer, and supporting vocal from Mrs. Hasegawa. On the right front of the stage was Mr. Takizawa making the traditional Japanese washi paper, his hammering went well in sync with the ongoing music. The beautiful footsteps in typical Manipuri martial art form executed by oja Sapam Inaobi were another parts of the fusion work. The creative work was composed by Mr. Hasegawa himself on the basis of his original composition, Stone Music. Special thanks to Rhythm of Manipur whose artists presented their nice musical performance in collaboration with the Japanese drummers in the beginning. The young students of oja Inaobi also need special mention as they showed their talent. One of the boys even performed with Mr. Hasegawa in well coordinated martial art movements. The whole collaborative composition took shape in few days time, only after the Japanese team reached Imphal on 25th though the idea of collaboration was conceptualized by team of Government Dance College and Mr.Hasegawa while the former was in Tsuruga city, Fukui Ken, Japan for cultural performance in October 2019.

Mr. Takizawa who is from Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture and Mr. Nihei who is from Fukushima Prefecture, Japan exhibited their work in the exhibition section. Due to some communication gap, their booth could not be allocated on the first few days of the Festival. The booth could be opened only on 28th. The paper making art and various graphics designs were displayed attracting many visitors. It is interesting to note that Mr. Takizawa used a lump of red soil from Maibam Lotpa Ching in making the paper as a tribute to the departed souls of the Japanese soldiers. In the morning of 28th, the Japanese team went to Imphal barrage in Samurou where Mr. Takizawa made the traditional paper in the river water where the ashes of those Japanese soldiers were immersed during the war period. Such was his immense sense of dedication towards their forefathers who sacrificed their lives during the war.

The team was about to leave Imphal on 30th November. On that day, my husband took Mr. Hasegawa san to the residence of Art n Culture Director, Mr. A. Shivadas Sharma for a brief informal interaction. On the other hand, the rest of the team members were invited by Mrs. Laishram Shantibala Devi, wife of our honorable Minister, Culture, Government of Manipur to her farm house in Sangaiporou. She offered fried rice to them so that they do not go empty stomach. During this time, I got ready with some local products namely the CCT Tea and Meira’s Amla Candy as gifts for each of the team members as a humble gesture of friendship. Due to lack of time in the airport, I couldn’t hand over the gifts to each one of them, rather I requested Mr. Hasegawa to distribute them later. I could take some last minute photographs with few of the team members namely Mrs. Ruka, Ms. Hitomi, Hasegawa san and family, Mr. Takizawa, Mr. Takashi , and my Manipuri friend Svetlana. Others had gone inside the airport from security check.

Special thanks to Mr. Mutum Bikash, Mr. Somorjit Laiphrakpam and other students and staff of Government Dance College, Manipur for their time devoted for volunteering and coordinating during the whole journey of the Japanese team in Manipur.
