what "glow up tips" do you have that (actually) work?
I know some of the common ones like "ooh drink water" and whatever, which I already do (I try to eat healthy most days, drink water every day, exercise 5 days a week, etc.)
And I understand that while all these work, I was looking for more short-term glow up tips, like how to glow up your hair/makeup etc. if that makes sense.
So I guess what advice do you have for a "overnight" glow up (quote unquote)?
Love the blog!!
Hi love! Thank you so much <3
Yes, totally get what you're saying (and that's great – it's all just so important, honestly). Here are some of my "overnight glow-up hacks" if we shall call them that, which I believe fit into this category:
For your hair, use a mask on your hair the night before you want it to look extra shiny and smooth (I use this HASK one – it's $2-3 and works like magic). Wash it in cold water, and let it fully dry (even for a little while after using heat to dry it!) before putting it up or playing with your style at all
Dermaplane your face, tweeze your eyebrows and then put on an extra hydrating face lotion to lock in glowing, fresh-looking skin (I use Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré, it's a "dupe" for La Mer's famous face cream)
Exfoliate your entire body with a sugar scrub and use an ultra-hydrating body lotion (I use Tree Hut's Coco Colada scrub and Uriage's Xemose Lipid-Replenishing Anti-Irritation Cerat moisturizer)
Do a face massage/use a facial or body massage ball to depuff your face
An orgasm is a natural lip-plumper
Use Vaseline/Homeoplasmine to hydrate under your eyes + your lips
Apply concealer as a primer under your eyeliner (use a brush to thinly trace it before) setting powder/face powder under your eyes to "lock in" your eyeliner so it doesn't smudge (or at least way less)
Layer a cream blush with a powder blush over the top right away your cheekbones for a glowy, more lifted face
Outline your brows and lips with concealer with set powder over the top to avoid brow or lip product smudging
To help your lip color last all day: Apply a coat of lipstick, and blot excess with a tissue. Then, apply another coat and blot the excess again
Hope this helps xx

Can you talk about investing in your looks on a budget? Beginner level friendly resources and pointers 💕
UPGRADE YOUR IMAGE
Sure! To be honest, this is where I am at currently in my life.
I wouldn’t say beginner, but I am starting a more mature chapter of my womanhood. I am beginning to build a new everything: attitude, boundaries and beauty/hygiene routine.
Im not going to waste my time giving you “beginner level” tips. This would be more like a crash course on how to invest in your appearance for the years to come.
Set a Budget: Soft & Hard
You may or may not go over budget, therefore it is important to set a “soft” budget and a “hard” budget. A soft budget is an amount you do not want to go over, however it’s acceptable to go a few dollars over if you don’t think it’s a good investment to put something back.
A “hard” budget is simply an amount where you must put something back that’s lower than the limit you set for yourself.
Before you invest in anything, invest in discipline and reasonable boundaries with yourself.
Find Your Undertone & Complimentary Colors
It’s not about which colors look “good” on you, it’s about the colors you turn heads in.
Here’s a YouTube video I used as reference to find my undertone and best fitting colors
Build a Capsule Closet
Invest in your looks by knowing how to put together an outfit. A last minute outfit or one that was planned for months (like the outfit you’re wearing to Beyoncé’s concert)
A capsule closet is a few select pieces that are compatible with multiple options in your wardrobe. It’s a strategy to help you avoid a cluttered closet and still having “nothing to wear”
Start with this article and this video
Learn Beauty Skills & Techniques
My best investment recently was learning how to do my own hair, nails and wax.
Self beauty maintenance was also a way for me to feel better and get out of my depressed funk. So, I learned how to do my own mani’s and pedi’s. I learned how to braid my own hair and wax myself (which wasn’t easy I won’t lie. Waxing strips for the win)
I feel more comfortable allowing others to service me now that I know how to service myself.
Miscellaneous Pointers
Start with Rainbow
Don’t invest into clothing until you’ve learned what colors & cuts look best on you, not just good. Take advantage of their clearance section and experiment with the clothing.

Foolproof Hair Care tips & routine :
I wish I knew 10 years ago... Seriously..
Tumblr media
As a child I always had silky, smooth hair.. And I believed that it'll stay that way forever. Little did I know.. I got into an all girls hostel in 10th grade & got dandruff & certain vitamin deficiencies. That made my hair look & feel unhealthy ever since.
Hot water :
Is a big no no..
Your hair will lose its natural shine in the long run.
Thinning will be a problem in your mid 30s.
Stick to lukewarm water from root to tip.
Take your damn vitamins :
Get your blood checked & see if you have any vitamin / mineral deficiencies.
Take your vitamins & once you get that problem sorted. Switch to a healthier diet that contains all those vitamins.
Besides vitamins.. eating curry leaves on an empty stomach is also good for someone who is suffering with hair fall.
Identify your problem :
If you have dandruff or hair fall..or literally anything.
Your scalp type - Oily / dry / normal
Your hair type - silky / delicate / dry
Your hair type and scalp type are not always the same.
In case of oily scalp - I strongly suggest that you don't oil your hair. Because if you do.. your problem might never resolve. (I know it because that's what I have..) but you can use a hair mask after shampooing your hair to make sure that your scalp is feeling nourished.
In case of dry scalp - Use any oil of your choice. Especially massage your scalp when you are applying the oil.
In case of dry hair - use conditioner after shampooing your hair.
In case of delicate hair - masking is a must.
Two Shampoos :
One shampoo to treat your problem (hair fall / dandruff / really any problem) & the other to act as a cleanser (parabens and sulphate free).
Problem shampoo alone - Mon, Fri
Cleanser shampoo alone - Wed, Sun
Oil :
Oiling is a big no no if you have a sebaceous / oily scalp.
Oiling is good for a dry scalp.
Tea tree oil for dandruff
Onion / castor oil for hair fall
Cold pressed coconut oil for strengthening hair
Masking / Conditioning :
Masking is helpful in nourishing your hair and scalp.
While conditioning is good for bringing back your hair's natural shine / lustre.
Please don't take them for granted.
Comb & Exfoliators :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you are someone with a dandruff problem.. please comb your hair regularly. It will clean your scalp..
And if you have a hair fall problem.. combing with a narrow teethed comb will stimulate blood flow.
Using a scalp exfoliating comb while bathing will help you get rid of dirt / dandruff efficiently..
Clean your combs :
Wash your combs by soaking them in vinegar + warm water or baking soda + warm water.
And do not forget to wash your pillow covers after a shampoo bath. Especially if you have a dandruff problem.
Other no brainer shit :
If you are using an anti-dandruff / hair fall shampoo.. please let the shampoo sit on your scalp for atleast 20 mins before you wash it all off.
Be gentle with your hair & scalp. Don't dig your nails into your scalp or don't be harsh with your hair. Just gently massage your scalp & hair while shampooing them.
Please wash your scalp thoroughly. I can't stress this enough.. most problems are caused by the shampoo residue that is left behind..
Proper Routine :
Problem shampoo + Masking - Mon, Fri
Cleanser shampoo + Conditioning - Wed, Sun

Oh my darlings, I was just reading this sad article about girls doing “age preventing skincare” at age 12. TWELVE!!!
My sweethearts, some day if you live long enough you will be in your forties and your choices will be 1. middle-aged and well-moisturized (if you have enough time and money to maintain this) 2. middle-aged and kinda wrinkly (it me) or 3. unlined but oddly puffy and taut (again, takes time and money to achieve). All are perfectly fine ways of being a person in their forties.
What you will never be when you are in your forties (or fifties etc.) no matter what you do now, is truly youthful looking. Time comes for us all, my darlings. So just… maybe… don’t torture yourselves? There’s so much LIVING to do. Fuck glass skin this and dolphin skin that. Just try to become AT PEACE IN YOUR OWN SKIN, no matter what it looks like. Something I’m still working on!! That’s what lasts.
I have only one friend my age who stays eternally young in her Facebook photos. Absolutely stunning, never ages a day. Her skincare secret? Ten years ago, she accidentally ran a red light and wrapped her moped around a pickup truck.
I miss her every day.
I bless you: more life. Wrinkles and all.

From the bee-stung red lips to her trademark platinum curls, Marilyn Monroe was – and still is – the ultimate bombshell and beauty icon, who had a penchant for glamour that resonates with so many of us today.
On what would have been her 97th birthday, we take a look at the star’s Old Hollywood beauty routine.
Tumblr media
She stayed out of the sun
“I’m personally opposed to a deep tan because I like to feel blonde all over,” explained Monroe of why she stayed out of the sun – despite the fact it was in “vogue in California.”
Forget the bronzers and fake tans many of us swear by today, she was all about the alabaster look.
She liked a very specific shade of blonde
If you’ve ever wondered what hair hue Monroe requested when she graced the colourist’s chair, you probably wouldn’t guess it was “pillow case white.”
According to the author Pamela Keogh, Monroe had her hair bleached every three weeks with a roster of hairstylists including Pearl Porterfield (who also tended to Jean Harlow’s pale blonde hair) and Kenneth Battelle.
To avoid washing it too much (which can affect the color), she swore by a makeshift dry shampoo – Johnson’s Baby Powder – applying every two days to keep her hair looking fresh.
A nifty makeup artist’s trick for plump lips
How to create the full, pouty lips Marilyn was so well known for? A clever use of lipsticks, no less.
Her make-up artist would apply up to five different red hues – darker, plummy reds on the outside, and lighter towards the inside – to create the illusion of dimension and plumpness.
A clever tip that many makeup artists still use today.
She knew the importance of sleep
A woman who enjoyed her sleep, Monroe took between five and 10 hours of shut-eye a night in a wide single bed.
"On Sunday? It’s my one day of total leisure. I sometimes take two hours to wake up, luxuriating in every last moment of drowsiness,” she said in an interview with Pageant magazine.
What she wore to bed
Tumblr media
Monroe famously wore five drops of Chanel No.5 to bed, a perfume that she is also said to have added into her ice baths.
Yes… ice baths
While Wim Hof and numerous athletes have since popularized ice-cold showers and baths, Marilyn was well ahead of the curve.
It is said that she used to take ice-cold baths to keep her skin firm and tight.
Tumblr media
How she looked after her skin
Monroe joined the likes of Audrey Hepburn in regularly seeing Hungarian dermatologist, Erno Laszlo.
Suffering from dry skin (she is rumored to have obsessively washed her face up to five times a day to ward off breakouts), Laszlo prescribed the actor a rigorous skincare routine, which differed depending on the time of day and occasion.
Her evening skincare routine began with an oil cleanse, using the Erno Laszlo Active Phelityl Oil, then she applied the Active Phelityl Cream and washed it off.
She finished with the Controlling Lotion.
All of these products are still available today.
Get the Monroe glow
While today we go wild for highlighter, Monroe got her glow in another, perhaps less tempting, way.
Deploying the K-beauty trend for “slugging,” she would apply layers of Vaseline under her foundation to help skin catch the light.
She was also a fan of cold cream, like Pond’s, and other iconic products we still use today, including Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream and Nivea Creme, and even olive oil, which she also reportedly applied to her skin to offset dryness.
She wasn’t a natural exercise fanatic
“I don’t count rhythmically like the exercise people on the radio; I couldn’t stand exercise if I had to feel regimented about it,” said Monroe about her approach to working out.
Many of us will relate. Instead, she enjoyed a “simple bust-firming routine,” which involved lifting two, five-pound weights above her head 15 times, moving from a “spread-eagle arm position.”
She would do it bedside until she was tired each morning.

Hello Femme 💐 how are you ? I wanted to ask your opinion on classy , elegant but also a bit of sexy/ eye catching choices for nail polish colours, and manicure tips in general. Thanks a lot and have a good rest of the day 💐
Hi love! My personal favorite nail colors for this look are: dark purple, dark cherry/cheery red, black, and navy blue/dark green.
Some general tips:
Try square, almond, or ballerina-shaped nails
Embrace nail polish textures with some dimension (satin/velvet finishes) or go for a full matte look
Always go for a uniform, solid-colored polish on all 10 (or 20) nails
If you get different colors, try to get similar shades with the lighter shade on your hands and dark shade on your toes
If you want a design, do a French tip or reverse French manicure with gold, silver, or black polish (if you have black on your nails, experiment with a deep red/purple/blue/green accent French shade, too)
Some of my favorite nail polish colors include:
OPI "Lincoln Park After Dark"
CND "Dark Dahila"
Essie "Wicked"
Essie "Deep Red Wine"
OPI "Complimentary Wine"
Olive & June "Obsessed"
CND "Black Cherry"
Chanel "Rouge Noir"
Chanel "Boy de Chanel"
Essie "After School Boy Blazer"
OPI "Black Oynx"
Jinsoon "Risque"
Jinsoon "Absolute Black"
Jinsoon "Abyss"
Jinsoon "Vanity"
OPI "Got The Blues for Red"
Londontown "Lady Luck"
Londontown "Guarded Jewel"
Hope this helps xx

A Former Funky Bitch Guide for Remaining Fresh
Tumblr media
As I do my scrolling, I have seen (and liked) many posts that go in depth about a hygiene routine however they’re all very…minimal. Unrealistic for most, dare I say. I only say that because though they may be useful for the ideal woman, a large percentage of women are beyond a standard hygiene routine and need something a bit more thorough. Myself being one of them.
Many women sweat fast which produce body odor rapidly. As our menstrual cycle approaches, body odor may become more pungent. Pregnancy may also produce pungent body odor temporarily and sometimes permanently. Remember, many women are still dependents (minors or college students) who are unable to change their diet yet your diet is an important factor towards production of your body odor.
This post is for my young ladies who may lack the privilege of having (parental) guidance for hygiene. Many of us like to downplay it as common sense, however I’ve personally experienced, witnessed with friends and worked with teens in poverty ridden neighborhoods who lack the knowledge of what many consider the basics of hygiene. In fact, many mothers are so envious of their daughters they sabotage them in that matter. This is real life.
This post also heals my inner teen because I was that teenager. Depression played a part. Parental negligence played a part. Lack of authority played a part.
Enough chit chat, here’s bullet points that you can screenshot and save for quick access in order to improve your hygiene to feel and smell as feminine as you are. This is a safe space:
African black soap has played a crucial part in stripping all of my body buildup unlike many body wash/bars of soap. It can irritate you, so I suggest purchasing diluted versions if you know you have sensitive skin. Otherwise, many beauty supply stores or African salon/shops sell African Black Soap.
Detoxing my underarms weekly with Aztec Clay, along with the t-zone (nose and center of forehead) of my face to minimize oil production on my face.
Cornstarch as a base before spraying deodorant to slow down the sweat. I use two drops of almond oil and lather my underarms up, apply the cornstarch (with a makeup puff? I forgot what they’re called lol yikes but wedge sponges work too) and seal it with my deodorant. You may want to put your shirt on first. This technique is similar to placing setting powder after your primer to keep your makeup from becoming dewy.
Wash bra and panties in the shower with me at night and when the AM hits I place them in the laundry. Sometimes the shirt I’ve worn if I need to.
Spray perfume on the arms of your shirt (CAUTION: If you have skin easily irritated, you may not find this tip useful.) Do not spray directly onto skin and instead spray within the underarms area of your shirt. Useful if you lift your arms often and are insecure about blowing a whiff regardless of if you have sufficient hygiene or not.
Keep wipes and dog poop bags in your purse: ladies let’s leave behind using solely tissue to freshen up after going to the bathroom. I’ve learned that many bathrooms don’t have garbage bins within the stalls or they’re only attached to the paper towel dispenser, so having dog poop bags that I can place my used wipes in has came in clutch.
Perfume/ Essential oil on dryer sheets in dresser or closet (CAUTION: FIRE HAZARD do NOT place dryer sheet with perfume or essential oils in the dryer. Can cause a fire especially with the old ass dryers y’all got). Also try this same trick if you bring a change of clothes to work/school to enhance the freshness.
A ziplock bag with a rag: If you work at a job that keeps you active and you cannot control your body’s reaction or you simply want to freshen up on your half hour break, this is a quick way to wipe away the sweat + natural buildup and remain smelling fresh. I’ve personally done this; it’s similar to a hoe bath.
You go to the bathroom, get you some hot water, you’ve already put African Black soap on your rag so it lathers up on contact, wash your arms/under boobs/intimate areas if you’re freshen up during your period (don’t use soap let alone the African one! You’re going to be burning jalapeño spicy), pat your clean area dry with a towel and proceed with your routine that may include cornstarch, deodorant and spraying body mist across your body. Ready to roll?
If your quick to sweat from your forehead, keep a scarf that you can use as a bandana/headband. I highly suggest these specific types below because you can easily manipulate it based on your outfit at the moment in need. I’ve worked at fast food, I’ve had to carry groceries, I’ve had to fight and sometimes the LAST thing you need is sweat getting in your eye (especially if you’re a fellow black girl. An edge control and sweat combo in the eye is not fun)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Activated charcoal in two ways: as an absorbant pad that can be placed as a sticker inside your clothing to avoid sweat stains or as a bath soak since charcoal contributes to expelling unwanted bacteria from your body which can be a factor behind your body odor.
I use these tips for my advantage and convenience. When I am going to an event that I know I will be photographed, I make sure I keep those underarm pads on me literally. I change my clothes at the gym often so I place perfumed dryer sheets inside a ziplock bag with my clothes so my perfume is not overwhelming but enhanced. My anxiety I’m not a fan on period cups when I’m out and about and cannot afford an accident, so I absolutely keep baby wipes and poop bags in my purse to dispose of my waste quickly and freshen up as I need to. It set me back $4 at Family Dollar…
Anyone and everyone should try these to make their lives easier. I hope this post was able to come across someone who needed this guidance because Lord knows I did at some point. Cheers to growth! 🕯🧿

i feel like people constantly try to make the process of women engaging in nails, makeup, spa treatments, etc as something worthless. something that makes us unintelligent and insecure. but whenever i'm doing these things, it becomes a sort of ritualistic self-empowering routine. i get lost in thought, and i actually have some of my best ideas. but even if i didn't, why is it anyone's business that every second of my life remains worthwhile and intellectual in some way? i don't see people scold men for their pastimes or routines. i don't see it defining them as people. just a thought i had while painting my nails.
