Hello! I'm someone who really enjoys makeup, but has recently in the past few years begun to view makeup and the makeup industry more broadly as something that is really detrimental to women. You seem to be in somewhat of the same position, and I admire your thoughts, so I was curious how you reconcile those positions or if you feel the need to reconcile them at all? Please ignore this ask if it's intrusive or weird lol
You can't reconcile them. You really can't. The beauty industry exists to churn out propaganda, inventing flaws and offering us fixes for a price, before moving on to the new (usually opposite, so you don't already have the tools) trend.
I'm in my thirties, I've seen the beauty industry turn into a nightmarish hydra that I never could have imagined as a teenager. The speed with which people create and zero in on new physical nitpicks, the ubiquity of filters and plastic surgery, that skincare (literally unless you have a specific ailment, a soft cleanser and nothing else will do you just fine) has become a lunatic self-flagellation in the name of some kind of nebulous Purity, just the endless chasing and chasing and chasing of that new thing that new miracle bottle, whatever will finally make you less disgusting for living in a human body. It's rancid. But it’s always been like this. Just slower.
And it's important to be intellectually honest about all this. The reason we think we look better with our lips a certain color, or our skin being a certain texture is because beauty culture has spent hundreds of years and trillions of dollars rotting our brains. None of this is real. You know that you find the people you love the most attractive when they're comfortable and bare faced and being themselves. Contour would change literally nothing about your feelings in that moment.
I enjoy makeup. I like gold eyeliner and deep berry lipsticks and a stain of blush. Why? Because I also have brain rot, and think I look Better with it on. You can't dismantle the entire wretched apparatus on your own, but you can be clear with yourself about why you believe what you believe. As my wife pointed out when I talked to her about this ask, even saying "I just like to decorate my face" doesn't hold water. You don't know what you natively like to do with your face, when it comes to beauty. You've spent your whole life marinating in propaganda. It gets into everything.
Due to my Ancient Years, I am no longer expected to be Young And Hot, which means I don't put on makeup on to run errands, and I don't feel like a full face is necessary to see friends or get dinner on a weeknight. I've started trying to treat makeup like I'd treat a pair of high heels: sometimes it's nice to feel dressed up, and in some environments heels are part of the dress code. Sometimes you wear heels to show your partner that you put in extra effort for them, or to make sure someone knows you took an occasion seriously.
Tellingly, heels also exist to fix a "failure" in your appearance.
It's like finding smoking sexy. Smoking kills you, unambiguously. And yet....it's hard not to feel like you'd be cooler if you had a cigarette in your hand. No one is immune to the manipulations of propaganda. But it is propaganda, plain and simple, and we shouldn't twist ourselves in knots to defend the lies it tells us, or try to make them ~praxis~. Beauty culture is exactly the same.

I’m normally all for parents giving their kids freedom in their life choices and I’m also all for kids wanting to try and experiment with things to express themselves but if you buy your kid who’s not even 16 expensive beauty products or take them to get waxed before they’re even a fully grown adult I am. side-eyeing you tbh

Hate when someone online vents about not liking traditionally feminine things - and ESPECIALLY not liking the fact that society forces them to do it - and every response is
a) pick me accusation
b) "i used to be like you too but now i love my 294050 step skin care routine and playing with makeup and skinny jeans and gilmore girls teehee :) you'll grow out of it <3 anyway you should like it more because it's really good for you and helps your confidence!! Don't you want to have something to talk about with other girls :3"
c) "it's not valid to say you hate those things that's misogynist :("
d) "those things are not gendered, everyone should have a 294050 step skin care routine and wear makeup <3 especially queer people regardless of gender because everyone knows queer = femininity and if you don't do this you're ugly and boring and also queerphobic"
The worst thing is that some queer women do this, like bestie I thought living outside a pretty major societal norm meant we all had to reflect on the ways in which society (and the people it consists of) tries to put everyone in a box and, you know, fight it when we see it....... Even some lesbians do this and if you call it out they say "just because i'm a lesbian doesn't mean i'm not hot and conventionally attractively feminine!!" which I find terrible

Modern au, where Merlin loves makeup, Merlin and Gwen are roommates and Arthur comes for Gwen to give her a ride
So, this is Merlin and Arthur's first meeting and while Gwen is getting ready Arthur is watching Merlin doing his make
Arthur: Why are you doing this?
Merlin: Because it makes me pretty
Arthur: But you already pretty
Arthur really thinks so, although he didn't mean to say it, so he quickly runs outside
Anyway, they end up as boyfriends and Merlin MAKES Arthur to try on some makeup and apparently Arthur really likes smokey eyes and eyeliner

if I was a character I would've gotten non binary headcannoned so hard
#wordstag#back in da day. Was wondering what my problem was. Lo and behold I was trans the whole time#Thank cod for the queer community otherwise I genuinely have no clue what I would've done with my self.#Bro was so preoccupied with becoming nothing because they weren't what they wanted to be#that they didn't realize they could literally be what they wanted to be. For free. And no one could stop them.#still recovering from that bit to be honest. Crazy how childhood effects you or whatever.#it wasn't even like. Oh I wish I was the opposite gender sorta stuff. It was just full stop#Hey there's something wrong with me because I feel limited connection to my agab. I should die about it.#anyways online spaces were my jam. Was often perceived as male and I LOVED the change in pace#like gender never even really came up 99% of the time! What a beautiful world to live in...#I think my problem was that I saw male as like... the more neutral option?#women wear dresses and makeup and do their hair and men just. Don't#I THINK THE PROBLEM THAT ROOTED THAT PROBLEM WAS GROWING UP AROUND MY GRANDPARENTS#Who were always excited for me to be a beautiful young lady. Genuinely the best intentions but I wasn't vibing with it and that simply#wasn't an option? Like once I wanted to wear a suit to homecoming and it was like. A full stop no. I didn't even like dances#all that much. But skipping out on dances meant I was Wasting Highschool or whatever. Sad world.#anyways what. Long story short a lot of my childhood was spent longing to be perceived as something other than#my agab without saying that out loud because I thought saying something like that would cause the sky to fall.#YOU KNOW WHAT DIDNT HELP ALL THOSE GIRLS PROGRAMS#Like. I support women and all but being a part of them always felt vile. I didn't want to be a girl I just wanted to Be yknow.#have since gotten over that though and exploited my girl ness. Hashtag woman in stem hashtag aren't I cute? A woman pursuing#a scientific career? Adorable stuff? You should give me all of your money. Still feels vile but a different#perhaps more evil kind of vile. The exploiting the system of gender sorta vile#anyways. Cutting myself off here. Good night folks

I've been on such a journey with my body over the years, trying to let go of a lot of shit I was socialized into and appreciating my features as they are.
I used to hate wearing glasses but I couldn't wear soft contact lenses so I conditioned my eyes to have calluses on the backs of my eyelids for my hard contacts.
I hated my nose and wanted a nose job. As it was, I was extremely self-conscious about the exact angles and vantage points that I would allow pictures of me to be taken at.
I used to hate my curls and would spend anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour every morning flat-ironing them before class. I also hated the light reddish brown color and would dye it.
I used to feel like I looked sick and my eyes sunken in without a minimum of black eyeliner and mascara.
I used to feel like a sasquach if I didn't shave my armpits, legs, bush, and pluck my eyebrows.
Now, after years of pushing myself to give fewer fucks, I:
Have cute glasses I like and don't wear contacts
Love my ginger curls and take proper care of them, and don't dye my hair
Say fuck the haters; my nose is great
I've embraced the strong eyebrows and will fill them in, but I only wear eye makeup when it makes me happy
I stopped shaving my pits many years ago. The legs and bush took a lot longer, but in the last year or so I've gotten there.
And now, most recently, I've stopped plucking my eyebrows, because I honestly have no idea how full they can get if I just let them do their thing and don't interfere. I'm learning what my face actually looks like, and learning to appreciate it as it is.

Can Astrology Be Your Guide Through Life's Maze? Exploring London's Astrologers and the Benefits of Learning This Ancient Practice
London, a city steeped in history and brimming with ambition, is a place where futures are constantly being built. But amidst the hustle and bustle, many of us yearn for a little guidance, a way to navigate the twists and turns life throws our way. This is where astrology steps in, offering a unique perspective on human experience.
For centuries, people have looked to the stars for insights into their lives. Astrology, though not universally accepted as a science, is a complex system of interpreting the positions of celestial bodies and their purported influence on human affairs. By understanding your birth chart, a map of the heavens at the moment of your birth, an astrologer can potentially shed light on your strengths, weaknesses, and potential life path.
Finding Your Beacon: London's Astrologers
London boasts a vibrant astrological community. If you're curious about exploring this practice, you might be wondering, "Who is the best astrologer in London?" The truth is, the "best" astrologer depends on your specific needs and preferences. Some specialize in Western astrology, while others focus on Vedic or Chinese astrology. Here are some pointers to help you find the right fit:
Research and Reviews: Start by researching online. Look for astrologers with websites that detail their experience, areas of expertise, and approach to astrology. Read online reviews from previous clients to get a sense of their experience.
Specialization: Consider your goals. Are you seeking guidance on career, relationships, or personal growth? Look for astrologers who specialize in the area that resonates most with you.
Consultation Method: Some astrologers offer phone or video consultations, while others prefer in-person meetings. Choose a method that best suits your comfort level and schedule.
Can Astrology Prevent Mishaps? A Look at the Potential Benefits
While astrology can't predict the future with absolute certainty, it can offer valuable insights that can help you navigate life's challenges. Here are some potential benefits of incorporating astrology into your life:
Self-Awareness: Understanding your birth chart can illuminate your strengths, weaknesses, and natural tendencies. This self-awareness can empower you to make choices aligned with your true nature.
Improved Decision-Making: Astrology can reveal potential opportunities and challenges based on planetary transits. By being aware of these influences, you can be more strategic in your decision-making.
Relationship Insight: Astrological compatibility readings can offer a glimpse into the dynamics between you and another person. This awareness can help you navigate relationships more effectively.
Stress Management: By understanding your triggers and emotional cycles, astrology can equip you with tools to manage stress and navigate challenging times.
Life Path Exploration: Astrology can offer clues about your life purpose and potential career paths. This can be especially helpful during periods of transition or self-discovery.
Beyond Seeking Guidance: The Allure of Learning Astrology
If you're intrigued by the concepts of astrology and want to delve deeper, consider taking an astrology course in London. Here are some reasons why learning astrology can be incredibly rewarding:
Empowerment: Understanding the language of astrology equips you to interpret your own birth chart and those of your loved ones. This knowledge empowers you to make informed decisions and navigate life with greater clarity.
Personal Growth: The study of astrology encourages introspection and self-reflection. As you learn about planetary influences, you gain a deeper understanding of your own motivations and behaviors.
Community Building: The world of astrology is full of passionate individuals. Taking a course allows you to connect with like-minded people and build a supportive community.
Creative Outlet: Astrology can be a fascinating and creative pursuit. Learning to interpret charts and symbols can be a stimulating intellectual exercise.
Enhanced Intuition: The more you study astrology, the more attuned you become to subtle astrological influences and their impact on your life. This can sharpen your intuition and decision-making skills.
Finding the Right Course in London
London offers a variety of astrology courses, from beginner workshops to advanced studies. Here are some tips for choosing the right course:
Course Format: Consider your learning style. Do you prefer online courses, in-person group classes, or one-on-one tutoring?
Teacher Expertise: Research the instructor's background and experience. Look for someone with a strong knowledge base and a teaching style that resonates with you.
Course Content: Ensure the course curriculum aligns with your interests. Some courses focus on the basics, while others delve into specific areas like relationship astrology or financial astrology.

can binah teach me how to do my makeup? (sorry if this breaks gender neutral... i happen to be a pretty in-closet transfemme...)
of course. she happens to be an expert, even if she doesn't wear a lot of it- none, in fact, when she's a Sephirah. there's too little time and too much to do, and even less of a point when she just watches agents and clerks and you die over and over again. she begins to enjoy it again once the Library gives her more opportunities to relax, and her favorite face to practice on is you, of course. if you want to. she takes great care in choosing the best colors and shapes for you, whether simple or elaborate. Binah finds comfort in watching and looking and observing you, all the time, so no matter the result she always ends up with that slight, subtle smile on her face
that same smile returns the day you muster up the courage to ask her to teach you. she begins with something simple- texture- applying various powders and creams to the back of your hand so you can deduce what feels invisible and what makes you want to scratch your eyes out. Binah can't help but chuckle, quietly, when she helps you steady your hand to apply eyeliner. it takes a while to get used to. there's nothing wrong with messing up. makeup can always be washed away, carefully, and started anew. and she wouldn't mind if you needed more help, in application or color selection. something about gently tilting your face up so she can examine a certain shade or brush something onto your cheeks makes the Librarian of Philosophy feel warm and soft
she'll never admit to the many times her hands have lingered on your cheeks, thumbing beneath your eyes with an impossibly delicate touch

Hey guys, i found out too late but webtoon is doing an event for their 9th anniversary where u can unlock 9 episodes for daily pass series instead of 1 (resets at 7pm, so if u unlock 9 right now u can unlock 9 more at 7pm today)... but it's ONLY for the month of july (i found so late im sorry😭😭) so there's like 3 days left...
but I rly recommend checking these series out and unlocking as many daily pass eps as u can before july ends!!!
Tumblr media
The Makeup Remover: This is like (one of) my fav webtoons EVER... u have to read it its got everything... Funny, cute art style, insightful + refreshing writing + social commentary that hits hard... A riveting story that reminds me of sports anime tournaments... AMAZING pacing and paneling/visual storytelling... extremely compelling well rounded characters, especially FEMALE CHARACTERS!!!, who have such incredible character dev, I cried so much bc I love them so much and it just hits so hard.... even the romance is well written even tho it's not the focus (unlike what the webtoon categorization says)... JUST READ IT PLS ITS MY FAV... It stuck w me long after I first finished it... and I'm on my 3rd read now and it hits just as hard as ever, I love it so much TT
Tumblr media
When the Day Comes
Rly good slice of life... Even if u don't normally like slice of life genre, I think this is rly worth a read for everyone. I love the author's subtle, realistic writing style and pacing, they make even the smallest moments have impact and u can tangibly feel how each chara is feeling... It's a real treat to read and even if nothing else, the art and art style is GORGEOUS!!! Soso good and insp. But the writing is also really good, so it's a real gem... Also there's a canon lesbian chara who's rly well written and I love her deeply...
