They do jobs together and, even though Cobb worries about the amount of danger he's putting her in he'd rather her be with him in the dreams rather than on the outside with his name like a brand. Some thought I was stupid. Following my father into a life of crime. Every day my life was threatened and every day I felt unsafe in my skin. But I couldn’t let my father go. I knew mom hadn’t been well since they woke from their dream.
Dad had told me they’d been stuck for 50 years and I suddenly realised how muddled my mom had become. So I knew there was no way he’d killed her that night. She’d wanted to wake up and she wanted him to come with her.
So I followed my dad because I’d rather be a criminal than be without him. Some thought my father was stupid for letting me follow. But truth was, he wanted me with him as well. We couldn’t see James and Philippa so we settled for the family we had left. Us two.

The clock’s hands on my watch reached 30. I hurriedly placed the headphones onto Nash’s head and began the music.
Arthur woke up first as the sedative wore off. He told me that Saito had figured it out and we needed to disappear. I helped him with the others. Seconds later Nash and dad woke up in succession.
“How did you mess up the carpet?”
“I didn’t know he was going to rub his face on it.” I rolled my eyes at his incompetency.
“You always have to expect them to do the unexpected!” I voiced my concerns.
“Oh yeah how about you go down there with us instead of judging from up here!”
“I’ve been in dreams longer than you’ve been alive my friend.” I smirked at him but felt him sidle up to my ear and whisper. “I’d have you on the carpet.” He was roughly shoved back by Arthur. In the years of him working with my dad, Arthur had practically become my protector and he looked out for me at every turn.  He glared at Nash in warning and jerked his head towards where my dad was packing up. Arthur could handle him on his own but he relished in the fear that spread across his eyes.
I helped my dad pack up the case and took the hand he offered me as he led me down the bullet train.

I joined dad in his hotel room with Arthur and we prepared to leave. We only stayed in the same room in very dire circumstances as dad believed I was safer far from him. Or because he felt safer alone.
When I entered, I noticed the spinning top.
Mom.
Dad followed my eyes and then looked down ashamed. I knew what he was doing. He was hanging on the balance of dream and reality, convincing himself that mom was wrong.

We three came to the rooftop, ready to fly away from this mess. But the closer we got, we noticed Nash slumped, bloody and bruised. Suddenly Saito appeared from the other side.
“He sold you out, in exchange for my sparing of his life.” Of course, it would be him! I tried to appear angry but I felt nothing. Our lives would be over soon.
Saito offered my father a gun but he declined saying that he doesn’t handle things that way. As Nash was dragged out of the helicopter we were invited to take our seats. I followed nervously.
“What will you do with him?”
“Nothing, but I can’t speak for Cobal engineering.” Ice ran down my spine, understanding the fate we narrowly avoided. Dad grasped my shaking hands.
“What do you want from us?”
“Inception. Is it possible?” Dad tensed and tightened his grip on my hands.
“Of course not!” Arthur answered.
“If you can steal an idea from someone’s mind, why can’t you plant one instead.”
“Okay, here’s me planting an idea in your mind. I say, ‘don’t think about elephants’, what do you think about?”
“Elephants.”
“Right but it wasn’t your idea. Because you know I gave it to you.”
I jumped in to assist. “The subjects mind can always trace the genesis of the idea, true inspiration is impossible to fake.”
My dad softly whispered beside me, and I managed to make out his disagreement with mine and Arthur’s points.
“Can you do it?” Saito smirked.
“Are you offering me a choice? Cause I can find my own way to square things with Cobal.”
“Then you have a choice.”
“Then I choose to leave, sir.”
“You want to take that risk? You want her to take that risk?” His piercing eyes lifted to mine and I felt my dad’s palms sweat at the thought of me in danger. He knew Cobal engineering would not even spare his daughter.
We landed outside of a private jet and I jumped out first ready to leave. I was enchanted by the scale of the jet but my happiness was short lived when I remembered who I was and what was going to happen, once again. Arthur and Dad joined my stride but we were halted by Saito’s voice. A final plea.
“How would you like to go home.” No. How dare he taunt us like that. There was nothing I wanted more than to go home with my dad and he chooses to dangle that freedom in front of us like a donkey with a carrot!
“Can’t fix that! No one can!”
“Just like Inception.” I don’t know if it was the sincerity in his voice but I chose to shuck off Arthur’s hand on my arm and walk back towards the helicopter.
“You’re serious. Aren’t you? Well how complex is the idea.”
"y/n what are you doing?"
“Simple enough.”
I scoffed. “No idea is simple enough if you have to plant it in someone’s mind.”
“My main competitor is an old man in poor health. His son will soon inherit his father’s business. I need him to decide to break up his father’s empire.” A business deal. Did I expect anything less. At least we could remove emotions from it. Simple and transactional.
My father joined the discussion. “If I did this-If I even could do this.” He grabbed my hand. “We’d need a guarantee. How do I know you can deliver?”
“You don’t! But I can. So, do you want to take a leap of faith?”
I shivered hearing my mother’s words pour out of this man’s mouth.
“Or become an old man, filled with regret?”
Dad lowered his head into a gentle nod.
“Assemble your team Mr Cobb, and choose your people more wisely.” The helicopter doors closed and up it went. In a daze I followed them onto the jet and sat down, silent.
“Look, I know how much you two want to go home--”
“No. Arthur, you don’t.” The first words I’d said in over an hour. I punctuated them by standing up and locking myself in the bathroom. Dad’s fingers brushed mine as I left in a brazen attempt to stop me.
As I sat there I thought back on my life, specifically the before. Pictures and films of our happy family danced through my head and I cried. I cried for the first time since we’d left that day. Since I’d hugged my baby siblings goodbye and promised them I’d be back soon. I cried thinking there might be a way. This was our chance.
I splashed water on my face and made my way back out with a fresh smile. I rested my arm on my dad’s shoulder.
“we’re doing this.” I announced. “I know, sweetie.”
I relaxed back into my seat, assured in our choice but nervous of the outcome. “So, where to now.”
“Paris. We need another architect.”

I Never Wanted To Say Goodbye
Jason Todd X Wayne! Al Ghul! Reader
Warnings: torture, suggestive content, explicit language and angst
Words:1429
Arthur's notes! Good mom Talia! Reader is Bruce and Talia's blood daughter.
Jason leaves the al Ghul's without telling his, lover goodbye breaking her heart.
Tumblr media
Damian and Y/N, had been with their father for 5 months now. She rarely spoke. Her heart was brittle as she missed the man who loved her. Jason left without a goodbye. She feared that her own grandfather Ra's may have had something to do with his disappearance. A less frightening thought was that he may have left to face her father. Because she knew he had so much pain carried towards her father.
Y/N thrust her leg to one of Joker's men. A man approaches in a red helmet. He shoots two assailants ankles. Y/N flips backwards repeatedly dodging the machine gun bullets shot at her from Joker. It was the way of his movements, his muscular build and his demeanor she knew. She knew it was him. As Joker is apprehended sirens of Jim Gordon's cop car approach. Y/N sees the man who helped her no where to be seen. She leaps across the building seeing him. He couldn't get away from her. She stands in front of him. His heart beats rapidly, his eyes shaking and his body feels heavy with shame.
"Jason" she snarled her voice heavy but not as heavy as her heart.
"hey.. Y/N"
She hits his chest angered "dammit Jason! That's all you are going to say! You left us without even a goodbye. You left me!" her voice hoarse from heavy emotions.
"I know. I knew if I even tried to say goodbye I wouldn't leave. I was and am fucked up babe. I didn't want to hurt you.. I'm so sorry I hurt you "
"hurt me? You destroyed my heart, my trust in you that you would never do something like that!!" she nearly shouted
"what--what are you saying?" Jason asked his voice heavily.
"I'm done.. I can't be with you after you broke my heart like that" she said tears falling down her face
His heart panicked "Y/N please don't do this" he begged her as his voice shaking
"I can't" she cried.
She walked away as Jason's heart falls as he hates himself for the mistake, he made. As she disappeared.. Jason cursed his tears as he hit his fist against the wall in anger that he hurt her.
Damian walked through the hallway past the bedroom of his sister. He stops recognizing the sound of her sharp cry. He opens the door and closes it behind him.
She laid wrapped tightly in her blanket. Her hand muffling her vigorous crying. His heart broke. Y/N dried her tears as her brother came closer.
"do not lie to me! Dare you wipe tears away that you obviously need to shed"
"thanks Damian"
He laid beside her. The siblings share a empathizing faces.
"mother would be much better...." he sighed
"you're doing good"
Every step she forcefully took was like a step onto fire. Every muscle was aching. Her hair was draped and attached to her face from sweat. She continued running. She has to make it. She, can't let them down. Talia would not rest until she knew they were safe.
Jason looks at his old mask from the time of when he was under the al Ghul stronghold. So much of that time he was damaged.. Broken. Y/N was the only one who could heal him. Though he needed to confront Bruce, alone. The thought of goodbye broke his, heart to the point he couldn't even look at her. He hurt her. His lips tremble as his heart couldn't bear the thought that he hurt her. When he knew she was back he wanted to see her but he was scared. Scared to lose her and now, he had. Maybe he should just leave Gotham? But maybe.. Maybe he should try to fix what he broke?
Y/N sat on the bed in his hideout waiting for Jason after he asked her to meet him here. She sees him approaching her heart easing that he's uninjured. He sits on the bed taking a deep breath.
He takes his helmet off "I just want to talk"
"about what?" she snapped "you just vanished Jason!! You were gone. I didn't know if you were dead. If Ra's had killed you" she cried, she takes a deep breath "I was heartbroken"
He touched her face tenderly with a, sad expression.
"how could I look at you and tell you I'm leaving? How could I look at the person who saved my sanity? Who loves me. And tell her that I'm leaving... I made a mistake. I really fucked up... I thought confronting Bruce would've healed my anger but it only brought me more pain" his lips tremble "I let you down babe.. I hate myself for hurting you. I left you.. I know I can't ever apologize enough to you. If you could.. please let me prove that I can be the man you deserve?" he begs his eyes shaking
She touched his face "prove to me through staying Jason. If this is going to work you must stay"
He kisses her as they lean back together. She laid on his chest. He takes a deep breath knowing his, heart was back within his grasp. He shushed her crying with sweet kisses.
A radar beacon location is sent to Batman's batmobile from an unknown source. He pushes the button on his busters on the vehicle. Bruce's heart leaps to a heartfelt smile but then fell to complete dread seeing she is in pain. He leaps out of bat-mobile. He runs seeing her hunched over in pain.
"Talia!!" Bruce shouted running to her.
Bruce's heart beating rapidly with his jaw clenched and his rage shown through his veins. Who hurt her?! That question would have to wait for her injuries were quite severe. He carried her running to the bat-mobile. He sits her on the passenger seat. Talia shakes her head trying to stay awake as her body grew very weak. She gripped his arm as tears run down her face from panic mixed with pain.
"h-h-he's going to kill her Beloved! He's going to hurt her!" she winced stuttering
"who?!" her head tilted down from the pain he held her face up carefully "Who Talia?"
"S-Slade he's.." she began to cry "going to kill our baby girl!"
"Alfred?"
-"I shall auto-pilot the bat-mobile, sir"
Y/N blocks Slade's blow with her sword. Bruce fights off Death-strokes soldiers trying to fight his way to his daughter. His heart falls to his gut as hears a pained scream. Batman fights more vigorously hurrying to his daughter. He sees his daughter laying on the ground. Slade was unconscious nearby from Jason nearly killing him. Jason kneeled beside her with his jacket on her... abdomen as she was bleeding. He began to stutter as he begged her to stay strong.
"no" Bruce mumbled
She laid on the cold concrete as she cried from the pain. Bruce runs to his daughter. He was terrified.
Y/N winces outwardly as she began to feel the sharp pain in her left side from the stabbing wound. She slowly opens her eyes trying to clear her blurred vision. She sees her mother smiling down to her.
"Ummi, are you ok?" she asked her voice shallow
She gasps softly, her daughter always worried about her "I'm fine my daughter. I'm alright now"
She sees her father beside her helping Talia keep from falling. She had never seen him with so much.. Emotion.
"Dad" she cried
He softly smiled touching her forehead. It was the first they were both here for her.
"I'm here" his voice brittle.
Days later Y/N sits in the wheelchair as her body was still in a, great deal of pain. Jason pushed the handles. He leans down to kiss her shoulder. He had barely left her side and she certainly wasn't going to complain.
They make their way into the dining room for breakfast. Everyone greeted them kindly. Bruce and Talia held hands as both parents needed comfort. Jason sits beside her. Y/N winces with a sigh as her hand shakes uncontrollably as she is trying to lift the cup to her lips. Jason carefully takes the cup from her grasp. He was unable to stand another second with her torturing herself. He lifts the cup to her lips.
That's when Bruce saw how blind he was, or chose to ignore the fact that it was so obvious. Jason was in love with Y/N... And he had to accept that so he wouldn't lose, them.

I've been reading all these sacrifice asks, and I think it warrants a question from me too. Let's add a bit to the angst (or rather, the conondrums, I think).
What would be the RO's general opinions of a Hound who clearly learned to enjoy life and not just act like a weapon for their king, and who is wildly loyal to THE KING specifically, not to Camelot? Meaning, they wouldn't die for Camelot itself on their own, but would sacrifice themself without batting an eye if Arthur ordered them to do something that would surely kill them in the process in order to save the kingdom. Assuming of course there is no visible alternative to giving that order.
Because I feel like that would be a very VERY different situation than the ROs picking to save either the Hound or Camelot, OR to their reactions to a Hound who "merely" sacrificed themself on their own volition. I mean, it's still on their own volition in a way, but because the king explicitly ordered what lead to that.
Or maybe would Arthur even not be able to give such an order, even if they'd pick Camelot over the Hound if HE was the one to actually be doing something leading to that result?
Ohh more delicious angst
Arthur would rather burn alive than ever order MC to sacrifice themselves. You will see how much Arthur can do and the length he can go so that people he cares about won't suffer or bear a burden alone. I think in this situation, Arthur wouldn't be able to tell MC to sacrifice themselves. Camelot would fall before he could do it to them. Romanced or not, close or not, Arthur would never do it.
This is what Uther did. Tell his knights to die in his name. To endure unbearable pain for Camelot. He won't be like his father.
Ultimately, Arthur would sacrifice MC only if MC was telling him to do so. Or if he knew with certainty that MC would want him to choose Camelot over themselves. Otherwise, Arthur couldn't bear to sacrifice MC. If his Hound so much as let a small quantity of hesitation or desperation, Arthur couldn't condemn them.
Even if he knew Camelo would fall. He just couldn't.

Horseshoe Overlook - Who is Not Without Sin
Minnie awoke the next morning to a quiet camp. The only noises she heard were faint conversation around the fire and an occasional cling of metal when a member would get stew. She sat up and stretched, feeling relief in her spine just between her shoulders as she thought about what she was going to do during the day. Her parents weighed heavily on her mind lately and she wondered if she could sneak up to her father's cabin to pay respects, granted it had only been a few days, almost weeks since she had left.
After slipping on her shoes and a change of clothes, she exited her tent, looking around to see what members were still in camp. The old man she had assumed to be Uncle was snoozing as he sat up against a rock, Mary-Beth, Karen, and Tilly were stitching up the men's shirts, salvaging them as best as they could, Pearson just finished skinning a doe that Charles had hunted earlier, Dutch and Molly were arguing in their tent, and John was sharing his morning coffee with who Minnie assumed to be his wife and young son. She took note that Arthur and Hosea were nowhere to be found. "Must be out fuckin' around." She mumbled to herself, making her way to the coffee pot.
"Mornin'." She said to an older woman whose hair was in a neat dark bun with a silver streak running through it.
"Good mornin', dear. How are you?"
"Just wakin' up, I guess," Minnie chuckled. "What all needs to be done 'round here?"
"Well, the girls are sewing the men's shirts. I'm not sure if Mister Pearson needs help with prepping the food, but I do know that we need more food for tomorrow's dinner. I for sure need some herbs or spices to season his stew! Don't tell him I said that, though!" She giggled.
"I won't," Minnie shrugged. "I can go out later and hunt. I saw Pearson skinnin' a deer already. I may have a good lead on some money I can check out later..."
"Well good! You seem like you're gettin' your bearings around here."
"I learn quick." She chuckled.
"I'll leave ya to it, Miss Barlow." Susan nodded.
"Thank you."
Minnie sipped her coffee as she made her way over to Trace, patting him with her free hand as she held the tin in her other. His withers twitched as a fly landed on him before she swatted it away. "I-I have a paste for that..." She heard a shy voice say.
"Huh?"
"For flies... I made up a paste that keeps 'em off of them..."
She turned to look at the man, recognizing him as the same man she had held up in the mountains for the manuscript about Cornwall's train. "Wait a second..." She glared.
It didn't take him long to recognize her, although he knew she was in their camp. He couldn't go on thinking that he could avoid her forever. "I-It's not what it looks like!"
"Weren't you an O'Driscoll?" She questioned as she squared her shoulders.
"N-N-No, I am not, Miss..." He pleaded.
"Ya sure? Because I do believe that I pointed your own gun at you back up in the Grizzlies..." She taunted.
"Y-Yes, but I'm not an O'Driscoll... I just got in with the wrong bunch. I mean nobody no harm! Honest!"
She smirked as she watched his bottom lip quiver, "Then why're you here?"
"They have me as bait... 'Cause he knows that Colm'll come lookin' for me!" He replied.
"Is that right now?" Dutch now intervened.
"I-I don't know, sir, I-"
Dutch raised his hands, his palms facing Kieran, "No hard feelings. However, it looks as if you two are about to skin each other in my camp. Why don't you two go out and get to know each other a little better, since you're both my guests."
"She'll kill me!" Kieran stuttered.
"Then all the best to her, but not in my camp. Miss Barlow here is a good asset to us. You too, if you can shoot a gun." He chuckled.
"I-I can shoot a gun, sir!"
Dutch nodded and pursed his lips, turning his attention to Minnie. "Miss Barlow, why don't you take him out on a bounty or somethin'? Let him earn his keep around here. Besides, he can learn from you anyway." Dutch directed.
Minnie looked at Kieran with a wild look in her eye, "Of course."
"Good," Dutch nodded. "If you can, stop by Valentine and bring back some canned foods."
"Sure thing!" Minnie nodded. "Alright, O'Driscoll, let's go. I actually have a job to go on."
"I-I'm not an O'Driscoll!" He sighed.
"Yeah? And I'm not an outlaw!" She mocked, rolling her eyes and mounting Trace, pulling out a bounty poster she had taken the last time she went to town:
"WANTED"
NEEDED ALIVE FOR QUESTIONING
$50.00
DAKOTA WILDER of the O'DRISCOLL GANG
ARMED AND DANGEROUS
THEFT and IMPERSONATION OF A LAW OFFICER
LAST SEEN NORTH OF STRAWBERRY in BIG VALLEY
"We got a ride ahead of us, O'Driscoll. Actually goin' after one of your own, how convenient!"
"Please, Miss, it's Kieran." He frowned as he rode up next to her on his horse.
"Okay, Kieran, we got a ride ahead of us. Up north past Strawberry." She replied, rolling her eyes.
"O-Okay. That's in West Elizabeth, ain't it?" He asked.
"Yes. Some fella named Dakota Wilder. Been seen impersonatin' a law officer." She explained.
"I know him! I know exactly where he is! There was a small shack close to the river that he and a few other fellers stayed holed up in." He replied, his horse now trotting alongside hers.
"Is that so? Or do you know that's how we'll be ambushed?"
Kieran sighed, "Look, you're soundin' just like Arthur. He thought the same thing. You and me have a lot in common and I'm sure you can relate to the feelin' of nobody trustin' you!" He pleaded, gulping as she now stopped her horse and stared at him.
She wasn't about to tell him that he was right, but he in fact was. He slowed his horse down too, facing her. "Yes, I can relate to that because I'm still not trusted!"
"Okay, and neither am I! I haven't been able to step foot out of camp until now and you were just tied up for a couple of days. I was tied up for weeks! At least someone in camp likes you enough to sweet-talk Dutch to let you be free!"
Minnie sighed as she looked down, breaking eye contact with him, "I don't know about that. But listen, there's a reason why Dutch sent us out together. Maybe he's testin' us. Maybe seein' if you'd break loose from the gang and go back to Colm, or seein' if I'm gonna take you out and kill you. Only time'll tell."
He held back a lump in his throat as he didn't dare reply, afraid of what she may do or think about doing. Aside from Arthur, she intimidated him, possibly more than Arthur did. The pair rode in silence on their way to West Elizabeth, which was at least a half-day ride if they weren't bothered along the way. She knew they were getting close by the change in weather as she gripped her jacket with her free hand as Trace loped along the trail. "We're close!" Minnie warned. "You take the lead."
"The shack is just up that ridge over there! Strawberry is in between those hills, so we're on the right path."
Minnie nodded as she followed Kieran, not even reluctant as she realized that the pair were the most untrustworthy of the gang at this point, trying desperately to prove their loyalty to Dutch. "He's the only one here," Kieran whispered as they reached the peak.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, his horse is the only one here. If he had anybody else with him, their horses would be tied and he would've had guards. There would've been no way we could've gotten this close without bein' spotted-" Kieran explained. "There he is! Out by the outhouse. Looks like he's gettin' something he hid..."
"Moonshine," Minnie said, watching the suspect retrieve the jar from the shrubs he had hidden it in, probably more than that as well. "C'mon, then. Follow my lead," Minnie replied. They trotted their horses up cautiously, the pair keeping a lookout for any other O'Driscoll's. "I do believe that is Dakota Wilder!" Minnie announced, getting the suspect's attention as he was distracted by the amount of liquor he had been drinking.
"Who's sayin' that?" The suspect replied, almost slurring his words, letting Minnie know that he had been drinking on and off almost all day.
Minnie raised her arm sarcastically, "Minnie Barlow," She grinned. "And my associate Kieran."
"W-Where's Paul?" He asked Kieran, recognizing him as a former O'Driscoll, furrowing his brows as he was told Kieran had been killed during a shoot-out in the Grizzlies.
Kieran shrugged his shoulders, "Probably out huntin' with the others." He replied, knowing not to tell him that Paul had recently been killed.
"So... Whatchu doin' here?"
Minnie rolled her shoulders back, "Doin' a little huntin' ourselves."
"Well," He replied with a suspicious grin. "Not much huntin' around here. The place is shot out of deer and such..."
Minnie raised her brows, "Oh there's still critters here. One critter in particular... Has a handsome reward on his head," She watched as the suspect's grin faded into a panicked frown before pulling out her revolver, pulling back the hammer as she aimed it at him. "Now you come quietly and I won't blow your brains out!" She warned.
She shot at him as soon as he darted behind the house, blocking her bullet's path. She cursed to herself as she heard his horse spook as she now realized that he had mounted his horse, spurring the mare into a gallop through the woods. "Hold on!" She said to Kieran as their horses were quick to follow. Minnie held onto her hat as they effortlessly galloped through the trees. She stopped immediately once she realized that his horse had been just a bit faster as he was now at the river, dismounting and trudging through the deepest part where no horse could go through without staggering. "Goddammit!" She hissed, soon being joined by Kieran, whose horse had clearly not run for a while. "Can't get a good shot in. You got your rifle?" She asked him.
"S-Sure!" He replied, retrieving his Rolling Block from his scabbard, handing it to her hesitantly. He twitched as he heard her load a bullet into the chamber, aiming it at the target, staring a hole clean through him with the scope. He couldn't watch as he was never one to want to kill someone, let alone watch. He still made himself sick just thinking about the time he saved Arthur's life by shooting a man. He watched her take four deep breaths, watching the suspect mock her from across the river, more like taunting her.
"Come and get me ya morons!" He heard him taunt. "What's the matter with ya? Can't swim? Go ahead and shoot! You half-witted bastards, here I am!" He sang, his arms in the air as he did a taunting spin. "Ya know what! Look at this!" He spoke, sticking his middle finger in the air at them. Kieran watched Minnie smirk as she took one last deep breath, pulling the trigger on empty lungs, shooting a hole clean through Dakota's head.
Tumblr media
"That outta shut him up," Minnie chuckled. "Don't ya think?"
"Y-Yes." Kieran nodded.
"Let's go get our money," She said, handing the Rolling Block back to him to put away in his scabbard before mounting his horse again, following Minnie as they found a shallow spot to cross.
"I-I thought he was wanted alive for questioning?" Kieran asked as they got closer to the victim.
"Well, that was the plan, but you see how that worked out," Minnie shrugged, grabbing Dakota's lifeless hands and pulling him to the shore to take any type of identification before taking a photo of him. "I'll turn this into the sheriff in Strawberry since it's right over the ridge there."
Kieran nodded as he decided not to reply, watching as she proceeded to receive the identification of Dakota before taking photos.
