I got out of my comfort zone ...and loved it!.. I've been working away on some projects that are challenging me in lots of different ways. Firstly after Christmas, I set up my easel, camera and studio lights to do a Live facebook painting session, as a seasonal 'special' for past students. This was not public but was exclusive to the private facebook group that is just for my student Alumni. It was partly a gift to them, but also a valuable learning curve for me. It enabled me to sort out the tech set-up and get used to being 'on camera' which I have to confess I've been procrastinating over ...for years! Of course once I 'bit the bullet' it was fine, and now I wonder what the heck I was waiting for! Anyway, a couple of weeks later I took another big step and did a Live paint-along challenge for Mastrius (the online mentorship community for artists). This time I had just an hour to create a half decent painting LIVE to a global audience of nearly 70 other artists ...No Pressuuure! 😳 In the end it was really great fun, you can watch it on YouTube, just search for Sarah Jane Brown + Mastrius Isn't it funny how stepping out of your comfort zone seems so difficult, right up until you actually just 'do the thing'? Being Brave is not easy

"BE  BRAVE" People often advise you  just to "be brave" 

Is it like "being brave" is so easy? Putting a brave face before everyone. Denying the fear which is emotionally cripple your life. It is even difficult to breathe when people around you stop supporting you! You have started to doubt your own existence. Sharing your story with others even becomes a burden for yourself. Your fears and insecurities have started taking over your life, yet people call it fake.   Everything around you is falling apart. Even your family give up on you. You are drowning in your emotional  difficulties and people criticise you for being "overly sensitive" Then people tell you to be brave. Before telling someone to "Be Brave" try to feel the pains.. the wounds. Being Brave is not an easy 24*7 job.

So you learnt to read people and be who they want you to be to protect yourself.” Though I didn’t have an alcoholic father, I have been through a lot in my life that even my closest friends don’t know about. So I learnt to control my worlds and myself in the form of curating what I said and did to fit in to protect myself, as a result, that perpetuated an increasing need for control which became obsessive and destructive. Being brave for tomorrow

Sorry it’s been a while... But I’m back!

It’s natural for people to have a certain level of anxiousness around things, a degree of being fearful and to feel cautious. However, for every individual, each of these characteristics and feelings can be more or less prominent in situations and how they are felt.

Sometimes you need to be brave. At times when being brave should never have had to have been an option... whether it be stepping into a room full of people by yourself, or standing up to someone who’s tried to hurt you.

You need to acknowledge when YOU are being brave for yourself and you need to give yourself credit for it. You need to be kind to yourself when you have been brave in situations where you should have never found yourself in. And whatever you do, do not let someone else make you feel belittled, or less credible for being strong for yourself or others whom deserve it.

For some people, facing tomorrow and living today is the bravest yet hardest thing they can do. And to you I want to say you are stronger than you know. Today you may have had to have been brave, but it ensures tomorrow you won’t have to be in the same way.

Whatever you may have faced, whatever there may be to come, whatever you are going through now... sometimes being brave should be and is your only option. And for that, you are and will be stronger... no matter how worried or scary things may be now, working hard today can bring a more fun and happier tomorrow.
