I know I talk about it all the time but like I think about it all the time and I'm so bad at articulating it but like. In Belle you spend the entire movie worried that her family doesn't love Dido enough, not really, like on the surface they seem to but at the same time she can't eat dinner with them and it's the 1770s slavery is rife black people aren't considered people like you spend the entire time afraid that it's all a veneer, a facade, that actually she'll be rejected and alone and you're almost waiting for it. And then the fight between Dido and Elizabeth happens and Elizabeth is so furious and so bitter and you think oh this is where it happens because this is were people say the worst things they can say, the things they regret the most, there's no wall of politeness here anymore. And then Elizabeth says that the reason they don't let Dido sit with them at dinner is because she's illegitimate and like! That is the cruelest thing she can think of saying! That is the most angry destructive part of her heart! And all the worry of the rest of the movie unravels because you realize even at her most furious she'll never throw Dido's race into her face she'll never weaponize it because it truly doesn't matter to her and you know! You know they really do love Dido and the doubt is GONE and it's just like yeah the romance is impeccable but this is the true moment of catharsis!!!! Life-changing perhaps!!!!!
