ya know everyone’s laughing at how hunter’s experiencing being possessed by belos and losing flapjack all while wearing a Goofy Silly Handmade Wolf Shirt but i honestly think it makes the scene ten times more heartbreaking. like it’s horrid already but like… just earlier in the episode you could see him enjoying… life

he has a huge interest in wolves, has fun making costumes and hanging with gus. and there’s multiple moments in the episode where he’s finally happy. he’s proud of himself. he’s happy with himself.

i think that if hunter was an adult, while the scene where The Stuff happens would still be devastating, it would hit a little less hard. i feel like the fandom seems to forget sometimes (even me sometimes) that hunter is a child. he’s just 16! you know what regular 16 year olds do? they mess around. they do dumb things! they live their life! but hunter had to endure years of not having a normal childhood due to being treated as royalty.

which makes what he says feel heart wrenching.

of course he also wants belos to not commit witch genocide for the 16,000,000th time, but he wants to just be a kid. he wants to be with willow and gus and play flyer derby like the rest of hexside. he wants to connect with other people his age to make up for lost time.

but belos of course, doesn’t care. he’s the one that’s still controlling him, and while hunter may seem intimidating when belos was possessing him, with the wolf shirt on? it just makes this all the more tragic.

basically hunter did not deserve this and i think dana knew what she was doing and she made hunter wear this shirt on purpose. that’s all

I noticed this tiny detail that made me feel kind of sick about Hunter. (It’s about his scars and abuse so if that stuff is triggering don’t read this)

In Labyrinth Runners we see a bunch of students with injuries that could left scars,

But thanks to healing magic these students fine,

Before Thanks to Them we knew he had at the very least a scar on his face and his ear was nicked. In Thanks to Them there were a lot of other scars revealed. 

We also know that Hunter was most likely abused physically by Belos based on how he flinches a lot when he moves around him, 

this is also more obvious in Any Sport in a Storm

So it’s clear that he’s probably been hurt by Belos physically at least once. Probably more based on the number of scars. But he shouldn’t even have so many scars if healing magic can make injuries like these simply disappear. Even if Belos didn’t necessarily cause these scars to exist, he denied Hunter medical help. Which means Belos probably didn’t allow Hunter’s injuries to be treated properly, despite there being literally no reason not to. He has the whole Healers Coven to help him if he wants as well as the Emperors Coven, which practices all sorts of magic. The Emperors Coven I’m sure is full of healers who are prodigies let into it because of their ability. 

It’s a small detail, but it is really telling of how abusive Belos was to Hunter.

i find it funny how people praise the owl house for breaking the trend of redeeming the villain when the show instead took the laziest path with dealing with their villain. i mean, i get it. not all villains need to be redeemed and sometimes, it's just fine to kill them off or defeat them. no character is irredeemable, but sometimes the point is that people refuse to change.

but what they did with belos was just lazy. he didn't need to be redeemed, sure, but his ending was way too anti-climactic. he was such a complex character to just be labelled as Pure Evil™ and killed off at the end. he didn't need to be redeemed, but he at least deserved to be acknowledged as the three-dimensional complex character that he is. he wasn't just a disney-esque villain who did everything for power and had no depth to his personality. he was a symbol of religious trauma and how it affects people. he was a horrible person but also a sympathetic one, because i can only imagine how harmful growing up in the puritan era would have been.

like i said before, the show being cancelled is not an excuse. i was so excited to see all the religious and spiritual themes in belos's past, and all the theories that fans were coming up with. hell, some fans did a better job of representing belos than the show ever did. i just feel like it was a whole bag of lost potential. belos could have been one of the most insanely complex and well-written villains but the creators of the owl house wants to impress its fans, so they pull a "haha we're not like other shows because we can't sympathize with the villain!" newsflash: you don't need to redeem the villain in order to portray them as sympathetic. azula from avatar and simon from infinity train are good examples of sympathetic villains/antagonists who don't get redeemed.

it's even more ridiculous considering how rushed and badly written lilith's arc was, even though she cursed her sister, tried to kill a literal child, and almost got her sister turned to stone. you'd think if the show despises redemptions so much, they wouldn't give lilith a lazy and rushed redemption arc like that, only to render her useless for the rest of the show.

The owl house has done a great job at showing the forgiveness trope better than Steven universe.

I love the message that some people do deserve forgiveness like the collector, because they actually need it in order to grow and they do want it. The collector was just a misguided kid,who in all actually did nothing wrong intill they imprisoned him. He's just a child who has no idea how to socialise with too much power in his hands.

BUT not everyone dose like Belos,who don't even care to be forgiven or for anyone besides himself. He's not a misguided innocent soul,he's a possessive asshole who's obsessed with power and who deserves pain and suffer. And I love how Luz after trying once and twice didn't bother with him in the end and just let him die.

What I'm trying to say is the final was amazing and I loved it so much.I don't think I ever liked an ending for a story this much.

Edit+ p.s : Let me make it clear I don't hate Steven universe and I like redemption arcs. I am full aware that Steven didn't forgive the dimensions in fact no one did and the fact that most people pretend that he did is just sad. I'm just saying it would have been nice if at least one character was just pure evil and didn't deserve forgiveness and got pain and suffering to deliver the message of forgiveness better. There are so many good messages the show has delivered.

Like jasper was close to the point expect the point was that you shouldn't force everyone to change their ways because some people are comfortable being just the way they are and that's okey,Like jasper and even in the end Steven freaked out once he harmed her which he shouldn't have. Luz looked belos dead in the eyes as she watched him die and didn't pretend that he didn't deserve it.

This is not to say she's better as a main character but that Steven should have also gotten the same treatment/character development. Luz and Steven are actually very similar even lmao.
