you don't go to parties iii | calum hood
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a/n: I DID IT GUYS R U PROUD OF ME
i was in a bigggg writing funk before this and i’m glad i got it done. sorry for making u guys wait so terribly long for it. i love u
warnings: calum hood x she/her reader, lowercase intended, calum's a mess (slight alcohol tw) angst happy ending
calum ghosted himself from everybody since that encounter with him, y/n, and his bandmates.
the other three boys tried their absolute hardest to get a word out of him, making endless phone calls, sending texts every ten minutes, and they even tried knocking at his door. calum ignored all of them, and gradually, it all just stopped.
he didn't really know what to do with himself. he had been so used to an environment full of so many people around him, and now? only having, himself, his dog and a few guitars? this felt new to him.
he also hadn't touched a drop of alcohol since him and the boys' fight.
looking back at it, calum knows he might have not reacted in the best way possible. he was angry, he really was. seeing his ex-girlfriend leave michael's house with all three of his bestfriends there was almost the last thing he expected to see, and it took him aback. but he knows he had no right to start yelling at all of them.
he's tried reaching out. in calum's head, luke seems like he would be the easiest to talk to – they've known each other since they were sixteen ; they tell each other everything. so why couldn't calum just muster up some courage and call him? text him, even?
as he sits at his couch with his phone in his hands, he looks at the message he's typed out.
hey guys, i know this is kind of out of the blue but i wanted to say sorry to you guys in person. i did some really fucked up shit and i know you guys were just looking out for me. do you think we could all meet up?
he deletes it before laying on the couch and going to bed.
initially, calum's woken up by a ding!, indicating somebody's texted him. slightly suprised, but not awake enough to care, he ignores it and attempts to go back to sleep. that happens to be unsuccessful as his phone starts ringing.
sitting up from the couch slightly annoyed, he picks up the phone and rubs his eyes. "hello?" calum groans.
"calum?" a slurred voice rings through his ears, and that's all it takes for him to jump back into full consciousness. "calum! you answered!" y/n happily exclaims through the phone, and he already knows she's had something to drink.
"are you okay, y/n?" calum softly asks while he walks to his bedroom.
"i'm okay! i'm at the bar alone and i had a few shots, and i started thinking about you. the boys told me that they haven't heard from you in about a week or so, and i didn't contact you because i was scared i was gonna make it worse. but i was thinking about you and i got really worried, so i called you to make sure you're okay," y/n rambles, sighing as she finishes closing her tab, picking up her bag from the table and walking towards the exit.
"you're – you're alone?" calum asks, concern laced in his voice and his face although she can't see it. "yeah, i'm just about to leave. anyways, thanks for answering. i'm glad to hear you're okay-"
"y/n i swear to god if you end this phone call right now," calum sternly tells her in response, picking up his keys and making his way to his front door. "where are you?"
"you know where i am," y/n responds softly. "you have to know where i am."
calum stops in his tracks for a brief moment before fully understanding what she means by that.
"stay there, please. i'm on my way."
she's sitting on the side of the pavement, a cig in her hand while she waits for him to get there. she doesn't smoke very often, but when she does, she knows her emotions are taking over.
after y/n heard from michael that calum hasn't spoken to him or the other boys in over a week, she started to feel stressed out. was the slight fallout between all of them her fault? should she have hung out that one day with michael, and maybe everything would have been okay?
she's clouded in her own thoughts, a hand on her head while she takes the last hit of her cigarette before throwing it on the ground and putting it out with the heel of her shoe. headlights start to approach her, and from the car model, she already knows that it's calum.
she gets up and lightly brushes off her body before walking towards his car. calum quickly puts his car in park before rushing over to y/n and helping her into the passengers seat of the car.
"hi calum! good to see you." y/n tells him with a lazy smile on her face, looking up at him. the happy feeling is not reciprocated, as he looks at her with a nonchalant face and nodding to adress her.
he's back in the drivers seat, putting the car back in drive when she starts to speak up again. "are you mad at me?"y/n asks softly, playing with her fingers and not making eye contact.
"i'm not mad," calum starts. "i'm just, a little disappointed. you know better than to go out alone. you know that's not safe. i was just worried about you." he breathes out heavily, focusing on the road.
"that's not what i'm talking about, y/n responds, looking at him with a sad smile. "i'm asking if you're mad at me for seeing michael, luke and ashton. i'm asking you if you're mad at me for.. for leaving you."
"y/n, i don't know if we should be talking about this, at least right now we shouldn't..." calum trails off, closing his eyes for a split second.
"you can tell me the truth, cal. you can hate me."
he looks to his right, just to see her face for just a second, and she sees her looking at him with watery eyes and a small frown. she's on the verge of tears, and he can't let that happen.
taking his right hand off the wheel and reaching for her hand, he grabs it and intertwines it with his, his thumb rubbing against the base of her thumb.
"i don't, y/n. i don't hate you. don't think i ever could."
she nods silently, and the conversation comes to an end before calum reaches her house. he exits his side and opens y/n's car door to walk her to her front door.
“thanks for helping me get home,” y/n whispers to the boy helping her stand up while he takes out her keys from her purse. not saying anything, calum unlocks the door and walks the both of them inside, shutting it behind him and helping her take off her shoes.
she’s in her change of clothes and the two of them are sitting next to each other when calum asks, “why did you go to the bar tonight?” y/n’s still kind of out of it, and she can’t quite yet process the entirety of her situation. so while she’s sitting on the edge of her bed next to calum, she does what she feels is best — pour her heart out.
“i told you earlier, i’ve been thinking about you. i’m worried about you cal.. i have been even before you stopped talking to your best friends. i know how you’ve been acting, partying and all. and i guess… i guess like i feel that it’s my fault? i never gave you a chance? i just, i just kind of got up and left without telling you.. i shouldn’t have done that. and now, the first time we talk to each other in months is a result of me getting too drunk needing help… you hurt me a lot but i didn’t realize how much i hurt you.. and i’m sorry. it’s long overdue but, i’m really sorry. if i could go back and do it over again i would.”
calum’s glassy eyes meet her sad ones as she shoots him a small smile. “please don’t be mad at them,” she finishes, talking about luke, michael and ashton. “they love you so much, and they want what’s best for you. they’re worried about you, just like how i am.” she takes her hand and gently cups calum’s face, leaning her forehead against his.
“you did nothing wrong,” he breathes out, his voice shaky. “nothing was your fault, y/n. i promise.” he can’t have this conversation. not yet. not while the girl in front of him isn’t sober, and not while his thoughts aren’t collected properly. hell, y/n might not even remember this the next day.
“y/n, i have to go. i’ll text you tomorrow to ask how you’re feeling.” calum states, getting up from y/n’s bed and beginning to leave, but she stops him by grabbing his hand. “no, it’s late. i made you pick me up. the least i could do is let you stay here,” she pleads softly, holding her grip on his hand tighter. “please don’t go.”
and while calum knows he shouldn’t do it, he sighs and enters the bed in the empty space that drunk y/n made for him. he makes sure to leave a good amount of space between the two, even if it means he's on the verge of falling of the bed.
calum's doing everything in his power to what felt like for once, to do the right thing. he's hurt her one, two, three many times before and he feels like he's walking on eggshells in this moment.
his back is facing hers and yet he still can't sleep. he can't stop thinking of all the mistakes he's made and how much pain he's caused to the one girl he's only truly loved. he also thinks about his bandmates, his brothers. how could he have acted so recklessly towards them? he knows that he knows better, and yet he still didn't show it.
despite his better judgement, calum turns around to face y/n, out like a light. she looks comfortable – she looks at peace. calum subconsciously forms a small smile, and moves the few hairs out of her face.
and in this moment, he vowed to do better. be better. not only for her, but his bestfriends, and himself.
he’s surprised when he sees the caller id pop up on his phone. not only that, but he’s kind of scared as well. after not talking to him for what felt like the longest they’ve ever gone without doing such, how do you approach the conversation?
luke picks up calum’s call on the third ring. “hey, cal,” he begins. “luke, i know i have a lot to explain and i just wanted to say that i’m sorry. but i think it’s better if i come talk to you in person, do you think we could do that today?” calum asks.
“i’ll be at your place in ten minutes.” and with that, luke’s out the door.
“you look like you haven’t gotten any sleep.” luke states the second calum opens the door for him. “i haven’t. i also haven’t changed my clothes in 3 days,” he responds, gesturing to the black hoodie and grey sweatpants he has on.
the two take a seat on the couch across from each other before calum cuts right to the chase: “i stayed at y/n’s house last night.”
luke looks shocked when the words leave his mouth, “what? how? why?”
“she called me, and she was at the bar alone. she said she was just leaving and that she called me to tell me she was thinking of me, but i couldn’t just let her get home alone so i drove to her and dropped her off. and she was saying… she was saying how she feels like it’s her fault i acted the way i did after our breakup. and, that if she could ‘do it all over again’ she would. i tried telling her nothing is her fault, but i don’t know if she took it. then she asked me to stay the night, and i did,”
“what’s the matter, cal? why did you not want to talk to us? what’s going on?”
it’s evident that luke’s concerned, and it’s written all over his face. he looks almost scared ; scared for his best friend — his brother who he loves so much.
“luke, i don’t know,” calum’s voice breaks, looking at him. “i saw you guys with y/n and it just - i just raged. i’ve never felt so mad in my life and i can’t blame anyone for it but me. and then seeing y/n act the way i did - do, i realized that the stress and hurt i was feeling was something that you guys were feeling about me, if not even worse. i didn't realize that i was ruining my life. with all the parties i threw and went to, all the fucking alcohol, i saw it as my way only out. but it wasn’t. it changed me, and for the worse. i’m so sorry, luke. i’m so sorry to you, and ash, and mike. i’ll apologize for the rest of my life if that’s what it takes,” tears are running down the both of their faces as luke pulls him in for a hug.
“it’s okay, cal. it’s okay. we know you’re in a tough spot, and we’re here to help you. we were just worried. we all are.” luke reassures calum as he sobs into his arms.
"i need- i need to call ashton and michael. tell them i'm sorry. i need to-" "hey, hey, don't worry. i'll tell them to come here. it's okay cal, we'll all be okay. don't worry." luke cuts him off, pulling away and walking towards the kitchen.
"hey, i know it's kind of early, but somebody's here to see us. and it's important, so you might wanna get here fast."
within 15 minutes both boys opened luke's front door, to be greated by their teary eyed bandmate. they're already struggling to contain their emotions, and they all pull calum into a group hug. countless confessions, apologies, and tears are shared, and at the end of it, all four boys are certain of one thing:
that it's gonna be okay.
calum doesn't receive a call from y/n until the evening.
she's nervous, she's so fucking nervous; she could barely click his phone number. she's worried and embarassed and all around scared. she barely even knows what she's going to say to him.
"hello?"
"hi." she simpy responds, breathing in deeply. "sorry for not calling you sooner, i just finished my shift. and, thank you for helping me last night. i know it was out of your way."
"don't apologize, it's alright. and it was no problem, i'm just glad you ended up home safe."
there's silence on both ends before y/n speaks up again. "are you busy right now? do you think, do you- can i come over?"
"oh i- oh yeah totally, for sure." what the fuck. calum feels like a thirteen year old boy talking to his middle school crush for the first time with the way he's stumbling across his words.
"okay, see you." and y/n abruptly ends the phone call before rushing out of her house.
calum's sitting and fidgeting with his hands when y/n knocks on his door. slowly walking towards and opening it, he's greeted by the girl with a small smile on her face, wearing pyjamas and one of his old tour hoodies. "hi."
"hi, come in," he holds the door for her and she walks inside, kicking off her shoes, then following calum into the kitchen where he's grabbing two glasses. "want a drink?" he asks, her nodding in response before filling the glasses with water.
"i know you're probably wondering why i asked to come over," she starts, taking a big gulp from her glass. "and honestly, i'm kind of, uh, scared. nervous. but i know we needed to talk, about a lot of things. about us. about, everything really. and, i don't know if i'll ever be brave enough to say this again."
calum can almost feel the nerves radiating from y/n. to calm her down, he walks towards her and takes a seat next to her on the island, lightly placing his hand on top of hers before gesturing her to continue.
"i.. i know i shouldn't have left the way i did. i left you with nothing. no note, no 'goodbye', no anything. and i've regretted it ever since." she confesses, closing her eyes.
calum turns to face y/n, sadness planted on his face. "i understand why you did. i fucked up, beyond compare.. and, you did what you felt was best." this was gonna be a hard conversation to have. "yesterday.. you said, that if you could do it all over again, you would have. what do you mean by that? our relationship? or?"
"no, i meant, the end of it. we didn't even have a breakup – i just took my shit and left. i should've given you a chance to explain, have a fucking conversation like adults and instead i just, i was a coward! i just fucking left you. how could i have done that?!" y/n's visibly starting to get upset, tears forming from her eyes as she tries to continue. "and then i kept hearing what you were doing, and i couldn't help but feel like i'm the one to blame for that. maybe things would have gone better if i just, let you say something, anything to me. but i didn't. and for that, i am so, so sorry. i'll never be able to apologize enough for that."
calum's about to speak up, to tell her that nothing was her fault, that she shouldn't have to apologize, but she keeps going. "and then, at michael's house. i never meant to hurt you. they were just, looking out for you and they wanted me to try and help you. when you came over and i saw the look on your face, i-i felt even more guilty, and then.. and then mike told me you went m.i.a on them, and i just - it's all my fucking fault, isn't it cal?"
y/n's in hysterics by the end of her sentence, and calum can't stand to see the sight of her in pain because of him again. he pulls her into his arms, stroking her hair while he whispers everything from no, no it's not to it's okay.
"it's not your fault, i promise, y/n, it's not," he tries to reassure her. "we both made a mistake. everything i did.. the way i acted, it's on me," calum whispers, holding her tighter, hoping that would help take all her pain away.
"i'm sorry i never realized i was leaving you behind. you're the most important person to me, and the one thing i thought i'd never do was hurt you. but that's exactly what i did. and for that.. i'm not sure i'll ever forgive myself. i lost the one thing i thought that i would have for the rest of my life, and there's nobody to blame for that but myself. not you. it was never you." calum confesses, his throat tightening up as he prepares to cry for what felt like the hundreth time that day.
she pulls away slightly, her broken, tear-stained eyes facing his soft brown ones. "i care, so fucking much about you. and knowing you were upset, and turning to alcohol, i just... i love you calum, okay? i'm not sure i'll ever feel the same way about anyone the way i did with you. i've been so fucking scared because i can't stand the thought of anything bad happening to you and i, i'm sorry cal. i'm sorry i wasn't there for you."
"no, y/n, please stop apologizing. i'm sorry that i wasn't there for you."
the pair let their emotions get the best of them, holding each other as fucking tight as they possibly could while sobs come out from the both of them. there was so many things left unsaid, and letting it all out – they both needed this. they needed each other.
calum thought that he'd never wound up in this position - doing everything in his power to reassure y/n that it's not her fault.
“i’m going to do better, okay y/n?” he quietly says to her, slightly pulling away from the embrace, taking her hand and intertwining it with hers. “i’m done with this shit, i promise. it’s not good for me - it never was. and i’m so sorry. for leaving you in the dust, and for making you worry. it’s not happening again. never again.” calum places a soft kiss to her hand while y/n wipes away her tears with her free hand. she nods in response, closing her eyes and leaning into his shoulder. she’s exhausted, but she’s happy they had the conversation. yeah, it might have resulted in choked sobs bouncing off every wall in the house, but’s it off her chest. it’s off his chest too. they’ve said everything they need to say.
“thank you, for, hearing me out. thank you for your apology, and thank you for.. everything.” y/n says to him, placing a small kiss on his cheek, before beginning to walk towards the door, and calum grabs her wrist lightly to stop her. “wait, you’re going?”
“yeah, what else would i do?”
calum’s so scared to ask this question, and he doesn’t know what answer to expect from her. but if he lets her walk out that door, he’s not sure if he’ll ever get the chance to ask her again.
“where does this leave us?”
“i don’t.. i don’t know,” she replies, as calum grabs her waist. “where do you want it to be?”
“i want it to be you and i.” he confesses. “what about you?”
“i’ve always wanted it to be you and i.” smiles creep up on both their faces, and y/n lets out a sigh. “but, things have changed and, and, i can’t just pretend like the past didn’t happen..” she trails off, a frown forming on her face.
she can leave again. she can leave, and he won’t be upset. but, calum has a chance at making everything right. with his friends, and with her. and quite frankly, y/n knows in her heart, she doesn’t want to leave either.
“sleep on it. stay the night with me. in the morning, if you don’t feel right about this, you can leave and i’ll forever be thankful we had this talk. if we hadn’t, who knows how’d i continue to act. and if you feel even the slightest bit right about this, i promise, i will never let myself hurt you again.”
as y/n looks into calum’s brown eyes, she sees a glimpse of hope lingering in them. and for once, she feels the hope between the two of them as well. relationships are bound to go through rough patches, and it’s safe to say that the two of them didn’t handle them in the best way. she knows calum. and when calum hood is determined to fix something, anything, he’ll do everything in his power to fix it.
so she grabs his hand and the two of them make their way upstairs, climbing into bed and falling asleep almost instantly.
and when calum wakes up to the girl he loves playing with his hair and kissing his forehead, he smiles, and makes another promise to himself: to never let her think she’s anything less than a stupid party.

y/b/n - your bestfriend´s name
Calum Hood x Reader (fem)
Tumblr media
You look in the mirror trying to get your eyeliner perfect, when your best friend comes and scares you, smudging your eyeliner "y/b/n! My eyeliner!" You cry out. "I´m sorry y/n" your best friend laughs. You smile. "Now I gotta do this eye all over again." You couldn´t help but smile at her expression. "We gotta leave in 15" She winked, you rolled your eyes.
Ashton had been having his annual halloween party, literally everyone was going to go. He always went all out, that meant decorations, food, and many, many drinks.
You asked your friend "Half up half down or just leave it down?" "Definitely half up!" She smiled. You had a good look at yourself in the mirror. You were wearing a Padme costume from star wars, it was all white, and awfully tight. When you finally finished you asked her "What do you think?" She said "Turn around and do a little twirl" You did what she asked. "Gorgeous!" She exclaimed.
In the car, you were sitting in the passenger seat and your friend was driving. "y/n, how do you think the party will be?" You furrowed an eyebrow. "I´m not sure, I only know a few people, but I have you, so that´s good!" There was a quick silence. "Sooooo... Do you think you´re gonna fuck someone tonight?" She asked. Your mouth opened. "y/b/n! I don´t know anybody there!" You exclaimed. "That wasn´t a no!" she laughed.
You both entered the party. He really outdid himself this time. There were dim purple lights and the music was blasting. This could be fun, you thought.
You were immediately greeted by Luke, who was dressed as an angel, it really suited him, especially with his curly blonde hair. "Hey y/n!" I´m so glad you came! Can I get you a drink?" he said while hugging you. "I think it´s a little too early, but thanks Lu." You laughed. "That´s okay, the boys are next to the couch, come here." Luke exclaimed. Your friend was talking to a tall ginger guy, you asked her if it was okay if you went with Luke, she said it was okay, since she was clearly preoccupied with the man in front of her.
You went with Luke, and met with Michael and Ashton. Ashton was wearing a pirate costume and Mike was wearing a vampire one. "Ash, this party is amazing! You really outdid yourself" You told him. "This is no problem, just another saturday night." He joked. You hugged Michael and smiled.
Suddenly, your best friend came up behind you and dragged you to the dance floor, you gave an apologetic smile to all the boys and went with her.
The music in your veins was pumping, you were swaying to the rythym of the music with your friend, you were having more fun than you imagined, what you didn´t imagine, there was a tall, handsome brunette staring right at you.
He was completely hypnotized, your body moved in a way that put him in a trance, it was like he was mesmerized.
Michael came up to the boy, since he noticed he was staring. "Hey Cal, buddy, who are you staring at?" He looked at your direction. "Oh yeah, makes sense." He looked at him.
"Who is that?" Calum asked. "That´s y/n, she´s a friend." Michael smiled. "Dude, how come you haven´t introduced me to her?" "You never asked!" Michael laughed. "Hey, you´re wearing an Anakin costume! What a coincidence... That would be a conversation starter for both of you!" "Whatever, man." Calum sighed.
The party was coming to an end, your friend asked if you wanted to come home with her, since her friend was coming to pick her up. You said "No, it´s okay, i´ll stay here a while longer." You hugged her and said goodbye.
The only people left at the party were you, Luke, Calum, Mike and Ashton, and you all were sitting on the floor, talking. You were sat next to Calum, and you were nervous. He was the most beautiful guy you had ever seen, you could have been sucked into his brown eyes.
Ashton brought the most obvious fact up. "Hey, you guys are basically wearing a couple costume, and you guys haven´t introduced yourselves yet! I´ll start, y/n this is Calum, our friend." "Cool costume" You said to Calum. "Thanks, yours too." You both looked into each other´s eyes.
"Okay, are we gonna ignore the major tension y/n and Calum are obviously having?" Ashton blurted out. You both started blushing. "Ashton, we barely know each other." You said. "Eyes speak a thousand words sister." He laughed.
He was right. All you wanted to do in that moment was kiss him, but you didn´t know if he wanted the same, you just met him for God´s sakes! But the way he smiled at you made you wonder.
"I need to go get some fresh air, i´ll be back in a few minutes." You said, needing to think this through. "This is your chance, man!" Luke said to Calum. Michael and Ashton agreed. "I just met her, i can´t just go there!" Calum whispered. "Dude, we saw the way you guys were looking at each other, she looked like she wanted to devour you." Ashton said.
Meanwhile, you went outside, you could hear the faint music from inside, the air was crisp and cool, it was fall, your favorite season. There were no clouds, you could see thousands of stars. You sat down on the floor and sighed, thinking about Calum´s curly hair, thinking about how you wanted to put your hands through it.
Calum opened the door, the sound scaring you. You looked back, and it was him, wearing his adorable homemade Anakin costume.
'"Hey, i´m sorry if I scared you" He smiled. You smiled back, "It´s okay." He came up next to you. You patted the ground for him to come sit.
He sat down with his legs in front of him, looking at you. "So, are you enjoying the party so far?" He asked. "I am, but this costume is really tight, and I wanna get home and take it off." Calum laughed. "What about you? Are you enjoying the party?" You asked. "It´s better now that i´m here with you." You couldn´t believe your ears. Keep it cool, you thought. "That was so corny!" You laughed. Calum started blushing. "Well you laughed, so i´ve done my job."
There was a pause. "What are you thinking of, y/n?" He asked. "The stars look really beautiful tonight." You said looking up at the sky. "Yeah, they really are." Calum wasn´t looking at the stars, he was looking at you.
You laid down, soon after, Calum did the same. There was a silence, but it was comfortable, like you´ve known him all your life, and this was just another night.
Calum looked at you. "You know you look gorgeous tonight, y/n." You smiled. You passed your hands through his hair. "Thank you, Calum, you don´t look so bad yourself."
Calum gave you a slow kiss. You looked surprised. "Oh shit, sorry, i shouldn´t have done that, we just met." He looked away.
"It´s okay, Calum. I want this." This time, you were the one who brought your lips to his. The kiss was passionate, a fire that either of you have never experienced. After the kiss, you both smiled at each other.
"I think we need to go to more Halloween parties." Calum said.
"I wouldn´t be opposed to that." You laughed.
"Do you want to go out sometime? To get coffee?" Calum asked. "Already asking me on a date? But we only met!" You said sarcastically, laughing.
"Yes, I would love to."

things I think you would do with Calum if you were together
I feel like you'd bake together - late night baking sessions where you're both sleepy and end up getting flour everywhere and burning whatever you bake
random staring contests - you'd just end up randomly catching each other's eyes and neither of you would look away so these impromptu staring contests would break out
weekly movie nights - you'd have a tradition of Friday nights being movie & pizza nights and you'd always take ages to choose and end up settling on one of the three movies you've both already watched a million times before
early morning dog walks or work outs - getting into a routine when he's home of walking Duke in the early morning and doing partner workouts and showering together afterwards
making out like horny teenagers whenever you're drunk or when he gets home from tour
just the best cuddles ever.
visiting him in the studio and bringing snacks for him & the guys
painting each other's nails and always ending up giggling messes at how badly you both paint them

This is a blurb from this prompt list! I’m still taking requests so if there’s anything you’d like me to write, send me number(s) and a band member! Gif credit to the lovely @ghostofmashton ♥️
53. “I just want to be swept off my feet…is that so bad? I’m fed up of being alone.”
It wasn’t the first time that a failed date had led you to Calum’s doorstep.
He would always open the door with sympathetic eyes and open arms, coaxing you into his house with the promise of pizza and wine. He was always there to pick up the pieces, time and time again. He knew your type. He never had ill intentions when he asked about them — he just knew you were going after the wrong people.
“What went wrong this time?”
“He was so boring,” You rolled your eyes as you thought back to the dinner date that seemed to go on for hours. There was nothing wrong with the person in particular — but there was also nothing great about them, either. “He couldn’t even hold a conversation. There’s only so much you can take from one word replies.”
“Sounds about right.” Calum retorted, raising his eyebrows as he compared the experience to the previous ones he had heard. “I would say I’m surprised, but I’m not.”
“Okay, Mr ‘Know It All.” You replied, grabbing another slice of pizza from the box on the coffee table. You were slumped on the sofa, running your free hand through Duke’s soft fur as he kept you company along with Calum. “Maybe you should start setting me up on dates if you think you know better.”
“Maybe I should take you on a date.” Calum wasn’t thinking too deeply when he said it. You looked at him with a confused expression, wondering where his comment had come from. He had been a close friend of yours for several years now, but nothing more than that. Not until that moment, anyway.
“I’m being serious, Calum.” You groaned, resting your head in your hands. You were tired of the ‘too nice’ ones, the ones who didn’t listen... There was no excitement, no spark with any of the dates that you went on. You were bored. “I just want to be swept off my feet…is that so bad? I’m fed up of being alone.”
“You’ll find the right person.” Calum reassured you, throwing a friendly but comforting arm around your shoulders. Maybe Calum was tired of being alone too. He had Duke and his roommate — he had many close friends, you included. It wasn’t the same, though. He missed having someone to fall asleep next to. “You just gotta be patient.”
“I’m tired of being patient.” You rested your head on his shoulder, sighing in exasperation. Calum was an easy person to be around. It was always comfortable, whether you were watching a Netflix series together or just sitting in silence.
You spent the rest of the evening with him, his company helping to take your mind off of the bad date from earlier in the day. Calum insisted on walking you home if it was late at night. It wasn’t until you were back on your own doorstep, after being wrapped in a warm hug from Calum, that you watched him walk down your drive. You were about to close the door when he called out;
“Let me know if you want to go on that date.”
Maybe you wouldn’t have to be so patient after all.

Hi I love your writing! I was wondering if you could do a pregnant reader with best friend calum and he refers to the babies as his own and the reader melts because she secretly likes him and they end up confessing and it’s just fluffy. Please 🥺👉🏼👈🏼
𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐔𝐌 𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐃  ⇉  ours
warnings  ➢  pregnancy
after a solid tour, the next thing calum didn’t expect to come home to was a pregnant roommate, whom was freaking out. he had heard most details of your very toxic relationship with your now ex-boyfriend, but adding a baby to the mix was the one thing that lead him to breaking up with you. so for the next few months, calum hood stepped up to the plate and decided he was going to do everything for the baby that was soon to come. he accompanied you at your ultrasounds, always being mistaken for the dad but he brushed it off and accepted it to save you from embarrassment. he knew that having to say that the father left was way more embarrassing than him saying he was the father, because secretly, he wished he was.
he had always sworn that he was going to be the best uncle, teasing you that you needed to hurry up and pick him as the godfather of the baby. when he had finally went to your baby shower, surrounded by bunches of people including the boys and their girlfriends, he felt a little embarrassed that he hadn’t really had a relationship or any sort of connection with anybody for the longest time. calum took the next seat inside his house, on his bed which you were in the next room. calum had on his best clothing which consisted of a soft button up and black jeans, as well as vans which he was not about to get totally dressed up for this occasion. you wandered into his room, looking about as radiant as ever. your hair had a new fullness and your skin looked flawless, the black dress that was on you had calum jaw-dropped. it may have been simple, but he couldn’t have felt more.. starstruck.
“so..” you smile, “kinda feels a little bit more real.” you admit, showing off your dimples with this one. he nods, “yeah. we’re having a baby, can you believe were gonna find out their gender today? gonna get cake and the gender of our baby.” he murmurs, his arms opening wider for you. “you’re not gonna break me, sit down.” he chides, patting his lap to which you sit down on. “so, our baby?” you question, calum becoming flustered at the question. “i just, i always thought it would be us. back in high-school, i thought it was us. never happened though, but with the baby and everything, kinda made it feel like it is us.” you confess, calum taking a second to process the confession before realizing exactly what you had meant. “does feel real. i want to be there, for our daughter or son. i wanna be the dad, i wanna one day be a complete family.” he rambles, looking up at you. your fingers lightly brush a stray curl from his forehead, calum just going for it. your lips make contact and at first it felt so weird, but it felt so natural.
one of his hands cradled your bump, the other lingered on your face. when the two of you broke apart, you heard a few voices from outside. “guess we gotta go out, it is our baby shower after.” you tease, calum kissing you one more time before letting you lead him out of the room.
“there you guys are! we’ve been waiting ages, we were so close to just revealing the gender for us.” crystal exclaims, looking cute like always while she made her way back to michael. “okay, well. i got boy.” you announce, calum rolling his eyes. “it’s okay, girls are just as good.” he pokes back at you, already hearing the try to gather up the other people to come for the reveal. the black balloon were sitting there, waiting for you and calum. so when you finally got time to poke them, the pink confetti that flew up and scared the two of you, you felt the tears escape from your eyes. he wasted no time and his hands made it’s way to your waist, pressing a soft kiss to your lips. “we’re having a girl.” calum murmurs, hearing the sudden cheers and gasps of everybody else. you nod, looking up at his glassy eyes. he smiles, “cheers to these last few weeks, we’ll be spending a lot of time with this little girl.” suddenly, these months of hardships and the years of friendship had made sense, now he was soon to be the father of a little girl and nothing could stop him from being proud of it.

The One Where You End Up In Detention With Calum
“I really don’t want to be here,” you groan as you slide into your desk beside your best friend Calum.
“I don’t either,” he yawns, stretching out his legs. You watch as he sits up, a goofy smile etching onto his face before he leans so close to you that his lips brush your ear. “Wanna ditch?” he whispers. You nod quickly and laugh as he shoots out of his seat. He proceeds to grab your hand and drag you out of the classroom. Your laughter echoes through the halls as the two of you make a beeline for the door.
Your attempts to leave the building were successful and you spent the rest of the day together simply enjoying the fact that you’d escaped all of your responsibilities for the day.
---------
You guys went to school the next day, acting as if you hadn’t played hooky the day before which seemed to go rather well until you were called down to the principles office halfway through the day.
You knew that your cover was blown when you saw Calum walking into the office before you.
“You’re here too?” he asked when he saw you walk in.
“Well, this answers my question as to why Mr. Matthews would need me,” I sigh, taking a seat in a chair after the receptionist told us that he’d be with us shortly.
“What do you mean? I still have no clue as to why we’re here,” he states, sitting next to you.
“Come on Calum, he’s totally going to bust us on the fact that we left school during second period yesterday.” You whisper, rolling your eyes at him.
“No way, I’m sure he’s clueless about that. I bet he’s going to mention something about homecoming,” Calum tries to assure you, only causing your frustration to grow.
------
“You’re an idiot,” you state, glaring at Calum from across the room where you guys are now serving detention. Your principle had, in fact, found out about what you guys had done yesterday. He even showed the footage of the two of you running through the hallways that he’d pulled from the security cameras.
“If I’m an idiot, you’re an idiot. You didn’t have to agree to ditch,” he fires back, returning your glare.
“You know that I can’t say no to you,” you argue, crossing your arms.
“Well, why not?” he questions, laying his chin on his hand as he tries to suppress a smile.
“Your freaking puppy eyes and persuasive smile get me every time,” you sigh, trying not to crack a smile. “My parents are going to ground me from seeing you. You’re a bad influence on me.”
“I’m the bad influence?” he exclaims, putting his hand on his chest. “Last I checked, you aren’t exactly the good girl your parents think you are. If anything, my parents should ground me from seeing you.”
“Excuse me, I know I wasn’t in the room, but that doesn’t change the fact that there’s no talking in the detention room,” the professor states, walking back into the room with coffee and a stack of papers in her hands.
“I’m sorry Mrs. Tyler,” Calum begins, shooting you a look. “Y/n was just insulting me, and I won’t stand for that.” Your eyes widen in disbelief as you facepalm.
This was the first time that the two of you landed in detention, but it definitely wasn’t the last.

could you write bestfriends to lovers with cal? i have an idea like they both like each other but the reader thought cal was seeing someone and she got jealous. make it angsty but pls make it a fluffy ending. thank you 💗
It was a relaxed get together at Ashtons place and when Ashton opened the door she could hear the voices and the quiet music coming from the living room. There were about 15 people, either sitting in Ashtons living room or standing outside on the terrace. Most of them were familiar faces for her like Luke, Michael, plus girlfriend and fiance or friends she knew because of Ashton and the other boys.
She waved to Michael and Luke who were sitting on the couch with the others, one second later Ashton was back next to her with a beer in his hand. “Thanks. You know me so well.”, she said and took the beer out of his hand. Ashton grinned. Her eyes scanned the room but she couldn’t find the person she was so excited to see.“Where’s-”, she started but Ashton interrupted her. “Calum?”, he asked with a smirk. She nodded and tried to ignore Ashtons knowing glance.
His head pointed outside the terrace and now she saw him. How did she not see him in the first place? She felt her cheeks starting to heat up like they always did when he saw him and as always she felt the need to be close to him.
The sun hasn’t set completely and he was standing out there, a cigarette in his hand as he talked to a girl she had never seen before. Ashton saw the frown on her face as she continued to look over to them without saying a word.
She knew she was a jealous person but she hated that she felt jealousy without even being in a relationship with Calum. “He met her in the gym I think.”, Ashton told her. So she wasn’t someone Calum had just met at this get together. What were they? Just friends? Were they more? How long did they knew each other? Did he spend much time with her?
All those questions were running through her head. She knew it was wrong. She knew that Calum wasn’t hers, even though he was her best friend and for her even more than that, she knew that Calum could do whatever he wanted with whoever he wanted. She knew that sooner or later he would find someone and be in a relationship and then both of them would be happy with someone.
In that moment Calum saw her through the glass and began to smile at  her. He waved at her and she did the same. Her heart was racing and it didn’t even stop when she was sitting down next to Mickey and Sierra, that just started playing a game.
It was a beautiful evening, but she didn’t spoke much with Calum. She didn’t really wanted to talk to Calums attachment or get to know her and because the girl didn’t leave Calums side there was no way to talk to him.
Three hours later she was laying in bed, thinking about if she should text Calum or call him like she did so often and then they would talk for hours. But she didn’t wanted to bother him or disturb him. She had never really thought about Calum finding someone one day who would be more important to him than she was. Of course she knew that he would have a girlfriend one day but now where it felt almost real, the thought of it was so painful that she didn’t really knew what to do with her feelings.
She knew that she just had to let it happen but she was afraid to lose Calum. Maybe she was overreacting but it felt like it at that exact moment when she was laying in bed all alone. She tried to suppress the thought about Calum being with the girl from Ashtons get together and what they would do right now and if they were a real thing or not.She knew that her own thoughts could ruin so much if she wouldn’t talk to Calum or asked him what it was between him and the girl or what it was between Calum and herself.
The next morning Calum tried to call her but she didn’t answer the phone. She just send him a message telling him that she had to study. It went on like that the next few days but she knew that she couldn’t avoid Calum much longer. She wanted to protect herself but she knew it was unfair.
At the end of the week she was sitting in her favorite café and when Calum came through the door, there was no way out. He began to smile when he saw her and sat down at her table. “I knew that I would find you here. I was at your apartment but you weren’t there so I figured you would be here.”
She smiled. She was happy to see him, this way or another. “Why were you looking for me?”, she asked after Calum ordered his favorite drink. “I wanted to surprise you. I haven’t seen you or talked to you in a while.”, he said while looking at her through his beautiful brown eyes. She smiled, his words warming her heart.
“That’s true.”, she said looking into her almost empty mug of coffee. “What is it?” When Calum asked this question she knew exactly what he meant and her heart was starting to race.
“What do you mean?” She tried to keep a steady glance at him but it was hard looking into his eyes without losing herself. Calum smirked, then his face went serious. “I know you so well. You can’t fool me. I know when you’re down, I know when you’re happy, I know when there’s something bothering you and I know when you’re not honest with me.”, he said and she felt caught.
“You avoided me the last couple of days. Was it something I said? Or something I did?”, Calum asked concerned. He cared about her. Besides his mom and sister she was the girl he cared most about. She was his best friend and he wanted it to stay that way.
She looked back down on her hands cupping the mug and cleared her throat.“I didn’t wanted to bother you.”, she said, now looking back into his eyes. His full concentration was on her. His eyes didn’t leave her face for one second and he tried to capture every expression. “Bother me? With what? Since when do we not talk to each other for days just to not bother each other?”, he asked. He didn’t sounded angry but he was straight forward. He wanted to know what was up. He wanted to know why she didn’t talk to him and why he avoided him.
“I didn’t wanted to bother you and her.” She was smiling slightly but deep inside of her she was afraid of what he would say. Of what he would tell her about the new girl in his life.
“Her?” It took Calum a couple of seconds to understand what and who she meant. “Oh - you mean Cally?” Calum smirked and looked down on his coffee. “Don’t worry.” He shook his head and smiled when he looked her in the eyes. “I just met her at the gym. She’s new in LA and wanted to meet new people.”
She nodded. Not something she didn’t knew already. Her cheeks heated up. She felt uncomfortable even though it was just Calum, her best friend. “What aren’t you telling me?” Calums brown eyes were serious. It was a look on his face she barely knew. He sighted. He didn’t knew what to do or to say to get you to talk to him. “Y/n.”, he said when he grabbed her hands and caressed her skin with his thumbs. There was silence between the two of them, something that didn’t happen often. Her heart was racing because of his skin on her skin and his eyes looking at her as if he tried to read her mind. She took a deep breath. “Is she more than just a friend?”, she asked trying to smile at him to not show him how bothered she was. Calum shook his head. “No. I’m kinda in love with someone else.”, he said, his voice quite while he was looking outside the window. She didn’t know what to say so she just looked at him with a questioning look. “I’m having coffee with her right now and don’t think she knows how much she means to me.”

Calum Blurb
A/N: This is my first writing in over three years, I know it’s not the best, but i’m getting back in my groove. Enjoy :)
Pairing: bestfriend!Calum x fem!reader
Warning(s): Pregnancy (??), angst
Word count: 1128
I stared at the pregnancy test for what felt like years. I didn’t know how this happened. We were always careful. But the three positive tests displayed on the counter told me otherwise, we weren’t careful enough. How was I going to tell him?
I heard the door to the apartment slam shut. He’s here. I stand in the all too familiar bathroom, frozen to the tile floor. Footsteps approach the door, and I see a shadow under the small crack at the bottom of the door before I hear a knock.
“ Y/n, Hun? Is that you? What are you doing here? I thought we had dinner plans later.”
His voice was angelic, it always was. It’s one of the many things that attracted me to him in the first place.  I knew his voice wouldn’t be so calm and soothing as soon as I told him the news. We’re young and not ready for a baby. I’ve only been dating a few weeks, and before that friends with benefits. I knew he wasn’t ready for this; I don’t think he ever will be. I knew I wasn’t ready for my life to turn upside down, but I had to tell him; he deserved to know.
After a few seconds of mustering up enough courage to break the news, I opened the bathroom door. And there he was, looking as good as ever, in his black skinny jeans, deep green hoody, beat-up black converse and his black head of curls an unruly mess, like always.
“Hun, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” he stated, taking in my disheveled appearance.
And that’s when he saw the tests, before I could even get a word out. He pushed passed me in the doorway and landed right in front of the bathroom counter, where the tests were. He looked down at them, then back up at me.  His expression was unreadable.
“You’re pregnant?”
I didn’t even get a chance to answer his question before he made his way to his bedroom. I knew what he was doing before I could follow him. He threw the few clothing items I had left here into a small bag, along with my toothbrush.
“We’re done. I don’t want anything to do with you are that baby,” he stated, too calmly for my liking.
I expected him to yell, and then pack up my things. I really wasn’t ready for him to so easily and calmly break up with me. It was like I was just another conquest of his. He didn’t look phased at all, but that’s who he was. He always had issues expressing his emotions, and I had yet to be able to read him. I picked up my poorly packed bag and coolly walked out of the small apartment he called home.
“It was fun while it lasted, Bryce,” and with that, I closed the door, along with that chapter of my life.
Still emotionally numb from the news and trying to comprehend that I was truly going to do this on my own, I unconsciously dialed a phone number I’ve had memorized for as long as I can remember.
“Y/N! How’s my little wildflower doing?”
“Cal…. Can I come over?” I asked, dismissing his question.
He knew something was wrong, his voice hardened, “What happened?”
“Cal…”
“Y/N.”
I didn’t say a thing, afraid of my voice breaking as all my emotions hit me at once, and I get out a sob.
“Y/n, where are you? What happened? Are you OK?” he frantically asked.
“Can I come over?” I asked again, between sobs.
“Yes! Please. I’m at the studio with the guys right now. I’ll tell them something came up-“
“No! Please… don’t drop what you’re doing for me, I’m not worth it.”
“Yes, you are! You are worth everything and more. You’re clearly upset and I’m coming home.”
“…ok.”
And with that, I hung up. I started walking in the direction of his home, knowing it would take me a bit to reach my destination.
As I finally came close to my final destination, I stood outside Calum’s beautiful two-story home. I always told him it was the perfect home to start a family in, and every time he just laughed at me. I knew he was afraid of commitment and never believed in love, but I always found it odd that he bought such a large home in a quiet part of town if he never intended on settling down. He always said the extra space was for the guys when they and their girlfriends stayed over.
I must have been standing in front of the home for a little too long, as I could here Duke barking up a storm on the inside, and next thing I know, Calum swings the front door open and quickly makes his the way towards me.
“Did you walk here?” he asks after engulfing me in a bear hug.
“Yeah,” I whispered.
Before he could get any other word out, I broke the news to my best friend, “I’m pregnant and alone.”
He looked at me, surprise and shock all over his face. It was silent for a few seconds as I waited for him to say something.
“No, you aren’t”
“Excuse me?”
“You said you were alone. You aren’t alone.”
“Cal...-“
“No. You are not raising this child on your own. Not while I’m still your best friend. I will help you,” he stated as he lifted my face from under my chin, so I could look him the eyes.
“My place isn’t big enough for a baby, it’s barely big enough for me.”
“Move in with me.”
“Excuse me?” I took a quick step away from him, shocked at his response.
He was quick to close the space between us, “You heard me. Move-in with me. You’re always saying I have the perfect home to start a family, so why don’t we?”
“Calum..”
“That way I can help you with everything. The eventual midnight cravings, holding your hair back during morning sickness, and everything else. I want to be there for you and your baby, so please let me help you.”
“A baby is a big cock block though Calum.” I tried to reason with him. I didn’t want him to change his whole life because of me.
“I suppose this is the time to tell you that I’ve been in love with you since the day I met you. This baby may not be mine, but I will love it as much as I love you.”
I looked up into Calum’s eyes, and I knew he was telling the truth. His eyes were always full of emotion.
“Fine, I’ll move in. And I love you too.”

You were young when Calum left. His family was moving too far for you to ever visit. Mali wanted to pursue music, and their parents thought they might as well get a start on Calum’s soccer career. When he left, he hadn’t one hundred percent committed to soccer yet, but you knew that’s where he’d end up. He loved it.
The two of you often spent hours on the soccer field at the local park. You couldn’t play soccer for shit, so usually, you just fetched the balls for him. That was until you got tired and resigned to laying in the grass.
There wasn’t much warning before he left. He mentioned it one day on the walk to school, and then a couple days later, your mom told you that you’d have to walk alone now. You and Calum were eight years old, and at first, you were hurt that he left without saying goodbye.
As you got older, you realized that Calum was probably responsible for telling you he was going and he didn’t. You blamed it on the fact that he was young. So were you, sometimes you try to think about what you would’ve done if you found out that you’d be moving away from everything you knew in two only two days. You probably would’ve let a few things slip your mind too.
It wasn’t a big deal anymore, you were now almost twenty-two, and it’d been over ten years. Most memories of Calum were fond ones. Some of the memories were sad ones that were created in the first few weeks that he was gone. Little things like racing outside in the morning to tell him something before you realized he wasn’t there or wanting to call Mrs. Joy’s phone to see if you could come over.
Today, you’d been thinking about him after your mom had tagged you in a post she made so many years ago on this day. The first day of Kindergarten. You and Calum stood in the lawn with big grins and empty backpacks slung over your shoulders. Standing shoulder to shoulder, both of you had one hand on a brown paper lunch sack. You laughed when you saw it, remembering that Joy and your mom always took turns making one big lunch with enough for you both to share. It was a way to make sure you two stayed together throughout the day.
You sigh as you walk down the sidewalk, locking your phone and shoving it into your back pocket. Today was the first day you had off since last week, and you were so relieved to spend the day at home watching endless Netflix episodes. That was until you had a craving for an iced latte. Sure, you could’ve made one yourself, but it wouldn’t have been as good.
That’s why you find yourself pushing the door open to a small café just down the street from your relatively new apartment. You’d moved into the area a few months ago, and exhausting your savings on new (to you) local businesses hadn’t gotten old yet. It was actually good for you to get out and make yourself a familiar face.
The line in the café wasn’t long so in fifteen minutes you were making your way to the door, coffee in one hand and your phone in the other. You were checking the time as you nudged the door open with your shoulder. You just wanted to make sure you’d have enough time to finish the season you were watching before your mother expected you to come over for dinner.
You lose your footing as you step on something and on your way down you barely graze someone's shoulder. It’s a blur, but you feel your hands in a cold puddle of the drink you just paid for. When you flip yourself, so you’re sitting on the ground, you try to find who you ran into.
“Watch it next time!” A tall, dark-haired guy throws over his shoulder. His back is to you, his hair is buzzed, and he’s wearing one of those tank tops that people usually only wear as undershirts. He pauses for a moment, picking up his boot-clad foot to look at the spilled liquid that coats a little bit of his pant let. “Damn, I just had these washed.”
Quickly, you scramble to your feet to try to catch up to him. You wanted to apologize and maybe give him some money to get his slacks dry cleaned. They looked nice.
“Hey! Wait, I’m sorry. Let me fix it.” You stop short of him as he turns around. There’s something familiar about his bushy eyebrows and full nose.
“Calum?” You ask, your eyebrows scrunching and your head shakes just the slightest bit.
“Y/N?” He says in disbelief. It’s weird how fate works because he’d been thinking of you today too. His mom has screenshotted the post and sent it to him this morning.
“It’s really you, huh? After all these years.” You chuckle, your hands are held awkwardly away from you because you’d landed in a puddle of your drink.
“Guess so. It’s funny that my mom sent me a picture of us today.” Calum brings his arm up to rub at the back of his neck, and that’s when you notice the thick, silver chain that’s wrapped around it.
“Yeah, first day of Kindergarten with our shared lunch. It’s funny to me now, but we used to love that. Seeing what they packed us was the most exciting part of the day.” Calum grins, and you smile immediately matches his.
“What are you up to today? Would you want to hang out?” He shuffles his feet a little bit, looking nervous for a split second.
“I was really committed to watching Nextflix and maybe ordering Postmates for lunch, but I guess I could move things around for my best friend that disappeared over ten years ago.” You tease him, rolling your eyes and then nodding. “Sure, we can hang out. I need to go inside and wash my hands.”
“Let’s start with coffee, what did you have? I’ll order another while you do that.” Calum walks past you and opens the door for you. You tell him and then make your way to the restroom.
After ten years, he should seem like a stranger. He should make you want to be cautious because a lot can change in that amount of time. It’s not anywhere close to that though. You suddenly feel like he never left.

Fall Apart - Part 1
Tumblr media
Hiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!! Sorry it took me literally ages to even get the first part written, but she’s here, and she’s ready, and she has a growing playlist for the whole series which you can listen to here if you know a song that fits the vibe send it my way so I can add it to the list ✨Once again thank you to the lovely @yessii-i for the request that started it all and @calssunflower who was kind enough to ask to be tagged, you’re both gems thanks for the love 💘(also if you wanna be tagged in upcoming parts of the series just let me know!!) PART II
You read somewhere once that whenever you meet someone new, there’s either and instant connection or an instant disconnection, but never really believed it fully until the day you met him. You’d heard of him before, both in his career and in his personal life, due to the fact you both shared friends who worked together, so in a way everything was almost inevitable.
After the initial first time meeting him, he soon turned into the person who kept showing up everywhere. You had gone from only ever hearing about him through people you both knew, to as soon as you were both properly introduce you were suddenly seeing him nearly every time you turned around. It started with the realization he had stepped in line behind you at the grocery store, where he gave a quick, “Oh, hi, nice to see you,” after only just meeting him the night before. Then a quick hello again at a party at a friend’s house where you both spent the evening with different groups of people and only saw each other for a second in the kitchen. Once again in passing as you’re walking across the parking lot into a bookstore, and he’s walking back to his car the next row over with his most recent purchase tucked under this arm and an iced coffee in his hand that he uses to wave at you with after you get his attention by calling his name. There was once you both had the chance to say hello as you held the door open for him and his friends as you were on your way home for the night from a showing your friend had at an art gallery in town, but it only ever just seemed to be ‘hello’ and nothing more. It had almost turned into an unspoken game between the two of you, how long would it take to accidentally run into each other in this town that shouldn’t feel so small.
“I’m pretty sure this is like, the sixteenth time we’ve ran into each other in the past two weeks, I promise I’m not stalking you,” you suddenly hear a voice say while you’re sitting by yourself in the café of the bookstore you both evidently frequented, drawing your attention away from the book you were reading. Who else would it be standing beside your table, but Calum, with an iced coffee much like before and another book tucked under his arm.
“Don’t worry about it, if you were stalking me I feel like you’d be less obvious about it,” you say with a smile which he returned just as quickly. Even though you had really only ever been introduced once, and the most you had said to each other was general pleasantries to say hi and be polite, something drew you to ask him to stay so you could actually have a conversation with him for once. “Would you like to sit, or are you on your way out?” you ask, nodding to the empty chair across from you. He hesitates for a moment, “Are you sure, I don’t mean to bother you and interrupt.” You push the chair out from under the table a little with your foot, “If it was a bother, I wouldn’t suggest.”
He gently smiles and takes the seat while he sets his coffee on the table as you use your receipt to mark your place in the book and leave it closed in front of you. As you do so, his eyes are drawn to the cover, and half a smile finds its way across his face.
“I swear to god, I am not stalking you,” he says with a laugh, taking his own book out from under his arm and placing it in front of him on the table like yours.
“Oh my god, did we just buy the same book? Why are you buying a book on dream interpretation?” you reply, starting to laugh yourself.
“It seemed interesting! Why are you buying a book about dream interpretation?” he replies with a smile, shrugging his shoulders in defense.
“If I’m being honest, I had a dream an ex of mine was engaged and I wanted to know why it bothered me since I literally haven’t wanted to speak to him for the better half of two years now. Honestly, I’d rather have dreams about my teeth falling out,” you reply before taking a sip from your bottle of water.
“Well, if I have any weird dreams you’re now the first person I’m gonna have to tell about them,” he says, mirroring your actions and reaching for his own coffee.
It was casual, and really just meant to be part of the conversation, but something behind it felt a little like a promise.
Eventually over the next few months, accidentally running into each other had turned into planning to see each other, whether that meant texting to check in to see that the other was going to also be attending a mutual friend’s party, offering to drop off something for lunch to the other’s workplace when one of you didn’t have enough time to go out during a break, or deciding to join them on a late night drive through run when suddenly it was almost 1:00 AM and French fries sounded like the best thing in the world. It was one of these late night conversations centered around a paper bag full of fries, two milkshakes, and the largest strawberry lemonade you could get your hands on that you think you really became friends with him.
“Do you need to go home soon? If you’re tired I can drop you off,” he asks during one pause in the conversation.
“No, I’m fine, unless you’re getting tired, then I don’t mind going home if you need to leave,” you reply, noticing the clock in his car is reading closer to 2:30 AM than you realized, but he shakes his head.
“Honestly, I haven’t consistently gone to sleep at a reasonable hour for probably like, two or three years now. I usually just chill in my backyard, maybe try to work on a song or something. I’ve tried just about every herbal tea I can get my hands on and I tried reading until I got tired, but then I was just finishing a bunch of books and still never really sleeping,” he continues.
“So now you just secretly want to throw off my sleep schedule, too, so you can have someone to talk to when you’re up all hours of the night, right?” you joke with him, to which he shrugs.
“I mean I’m not gonna lie, if you’re already awake it’s convenient, but it’s not like it’s intentional or anything,” he replies.
In the quiet darkness of his car, it’s easy to get caught up looking at him; how he absentmindedly nods his head with the beat of whatever songs play off his phone, how he’s angled just ever so slightly in the driver’s seat to be turned just a little towards you, how his elbow is almost touching your knee as a result of the way your legs are folded up in your seat. If you had noticed at the right times in the conversation, you would’ve noticed he’d been looking at you the same way, taking in how he thought your features looked nice in the distant glow of the streetlight across the parking lot, how you keep your hands folded around your bended knee when you aren’t eating, the way you always look up when a car passes by. Maybe he was thinking that falling asleep next to you might help him sleep for once, but maybe that was something he was trying to push out of his mind since the idea interrupted his train of thought during the conversation earlier.
“Did I ever tell you why I moved out here in the first place?” you say after finishing up your strawberry lemonade, unknowingly interrupt his thinking.
“No, I don’t think so, as far as I know you were always just here,” he says.
“I was feeling really stuck is probably the best way to put it. I was feeling like if I didn’t change something soon, I was going to be stuck doing the same thing, in the same place, with the same people I had always been stuck with for the rest of my life. It was just an overwhelming feeling that ‘something’s gotta give’ you know? So I quit my stable job, broke up with my stable boyfriend, and within a month I was out here, without a single person I knew,” you told him. For some reason tonight you were feeling a little lost in nostalgia, and couldn’t quite put your finger on why.
You had been looking out the passenger window as you were telling him this, and you still don’t really know why you started saying it in the first place, but when you look over you meet his eyes. You could see in his face he knew the feeling you meant, when everything should be fine, but nothing seemed to feel right.
“Sometimes you’ve just got to fall apart before you can fall back together, I think,” he says after a moment. There was a sincerity behind it that told you he was in the falling back together of his own story, and maybe that he was willing to be part of the falling back together in your own.
“I’m sorry, I made this weird,” you reply, breaking his gaze to look back out the window, the eye contact suddenly becoming too much for you.
“Hey,” he says in a gentle voice to encourage you to look back at him. Once you do, he continues. “It’s not weird to tell your friends about something that’s not superficial. Usually I’m the one who keeps to myself whenever some deep shit’s on my mind.”
“Wow, imagine that, Calum Hood: having deep shit on his mind that he won’t share with anyone,” you tease lightheartedly to bring some life back to the mood before it gets too deeply rooted in suddenly being complex and emotional, and just as according to your plan, this makes him laugh.
“Hey! I don’t know what you’re talking about, I am innocent in this situation, I have done nothing wrong,” he replies in his defense. You can’t help but notice the way his eyes crinkled and his whole face lit up when he laughed is a look you haven’t seen from him before, but it’s quickly a look you want to see again. And again, and again, and again.
“So is this boyfriend you broke up with the same one you had a dream got engaged, or is that somebody different?” he asks to change the subject as he reaches for more fries from the shared bag between you, sensing it was getting a little too close to being about himself for his liking.
“No, it’s the same one. Which is why I was so confused in the first place that the dream bothered me so much, like I’m the one who left him, so why did this dream make me start second guessing myself?” you replied, “Like I genuinely haven’t kept up with him since I moved out here, but all the sudden I was worried I made the wrong choice, which didn’t make sense to me. I mean, I haven’t dated anybody since then, so even though I was emotionally checked out of the relationship for a while, does part of my subconscious or something still think it was too risky of a move to just call it off like that?”
He’s silent for a moment, because in all honesty, he’s just not too sure what to say.
“I’m very much over it, but I also very much think love sucks,” you say breaking the silence.
“That’s a statement I can get behind,” he starts after a sip of his milkshake, “I avoid it at all costs.”
“Maybe I should do the same, then I wouldn’t be so fucking confused further down the line,” you reply. “You don’t have to get into it on why you think love sucks, I’m just glad we can both agree it needs to be avoided at all costs.” What you told him wasn’t entirely true. Somewhere deep down behind the layers and layers of walls you had built up, you knew you would always be a little bit of a hopeless romantic, it might just take some time before you felt like you were ready to let that back to the surface again. You didn’t know it, but Calum was the same way, even if he didn’t let on that he was. Sometimes people are drawn to each other and instantly have a connection, and in this case that connection was over how to live with a broken heart. His idea of living with it was pretending it wasn’t broken, and yours was realizing it was and embracing all the broken pieces.
“Like I said: I avoid it at all costs.”

Missing You - C.H
Tumblr media
Summary: You have to quarantine alone in a different country, meaning you don't see Calum for almost two years and it hits you both hard.
Word count: 1.1k
Author's Note: this is my first full fic so please leave me feedback & give it lots of love! <3
Quarantine was tough, the fact that you had to do it alone with no more company than your cat made it tougher. Sure, it gave you a chance to reflect on yourself and unwind and pick up some new hobbies but as much as you liked your alone time, months on end of it became monotonous quickly. You tried to distract yourself from the loneliness, from cooking to baking, learning to knit to writing poetry, nothing could replace the specific, best friend shaped hole in your heart.
It was all the wrong timing. You'd managed to get two weeks off at the start of April to go and visit him, celebrate his new album release and just spend some quality time with your best friend that you hadn't seen since Christmas. But the pandemic hit and shut the world down, leading you to be sat home, alone, face timing your friend instead of spending the week with him.
'The new album is really great Cal! wish I was there to celebrate with you though. it's been two weeks and I'm already bored out of my mind' you whined.
'Thanks y/n, the fans seem to really love it, sucks that you can't be here though. Hopefully it won't last too long and you'll be able to come and give me all the congratulatory cuddles I deserve' he grinned, causing the dimples in his cheeks to pop.
Fast forward 8 months and you're desperately trying to book a flight to go home for Christmas. With constantly changing government guidelines in both the UK and Australia, your likelihood of going home to see family and friends was dwindling fast. Luckily for you, Mali also couldn't manage to get home and because the government was allowing small Christmas gatherings, you managed to have a two person Christmas with her.
'I can't believe you're having Christmas together without me' Calum complained through the phone, putting on his most outrageous pout.
'Haha sucks to be you Callll' Mali slurred at her brother, continuing to walk out of frame giggling to herself before plopping down on the sofa.
'We're having a great time Cal, wish you were here but we've also been telling each other funny stories about you so it's probably best that you're being saved from embarrassment', you really had been exchanging stories with each other, from that time you had to help him pull down his jeans cause they were too tight to the time Mali jumped out from behind a door and scared him so badly he screamed and fell on the floor. You missed him, sure, but it'd been so long since just you and Mali had hung out that it was a nice change to have a different Hood around.
Work had pulled you this way and that, there seemed to be no time to do anything and despite the easing restrictions on the world, you still hadn't managed to see Calum. Between your work and him writing with the guys for the new album, neither of you had been able to travel to see each other.
It had been just over a year since yours and Mali's quiet Christmas together and you were heading over to hers for a small party she was having. Walking in, you greeted her and set out the cakes you'd brought with you, hoping to cheer people up as the new year blues started to set in. You grabbed a drink and headed through to the living room, saying hi to the few people that were already there.
After a while there was a knock at the door, promptly answered by Mali. People had been arriving for the last half an hour so you didn't think much of it. At least not until you heard his voice. It couldn't be, could it? Surely Mali would've told you he'd be here. Surely he would've told you he was coming over.
Turning around and making your way to the kitchen you were quickly met with the sight you had been so desperate to see for so long. A tall, handsome man with out of control curls and a smile that lit up the room, standing before you. His realisation that you were stood in front of him, with the stunned look on your face, a cute dress and dainty jewellery hit him hard and fast.
With two big strides he was in front of you, wrapping you in his arms and burying his face in your neck. You quickly wrapped your arms around him as well, joining the tight embrace that you both had longed for for so many months.
'Fuck, missed you so much pretty girl, can't believe I'm here and you're here and I'm finally hugging you. Missed you. Missed your perfume and your smile and your stupid jokes and your hugs. Fuck I've missed your hugs, feels so nice to finally have you in my arms again', he murmured against your neck, squeezing you and pulling away just enough to see the few tears that had spilled during your reunion.
'Shit Cal, missed you so much too, missed your dimples and your laugh and the way you hum songs over and over until I can't stand them. Feels so good to finally see you again', you whispered to him, resting your foreheads together, 'why didn't you say you were coming?'.
'Wanted to surprise you, honestly thought Mali would've caved and said something, glad she didn't though'.
He pulled you back in for another hug, kissing your forehead in the process. He loved the way you were the perfect height to hug him, just tall enough to be able to wrap your arms around his shoulders without trying too hard to be on full tippy toes, but just short enough that he could rest his chin on your head whilst hugging you.
You stayed attached at the hip for the rest of the night, never too far away from each other, always within arm's reach to hold hands or give another hug. You went home to your apartment and stayed up until the early hours of the morning, catching up on everything from the last two years, giving each other presents that should've been for Christmas two years prior and snuggling on the sofa, tracing his tattoos until you both fell asleep.
You never thought you'd have to go so long without seeing your best friend, but the reunion and the subsequent weeks that followed it made it almost worth it. Sure, quarantine had been tough, but you were now curled up on your sofa with the man you adored wholeheartedly. It may have been hard, but in the end, he made it worth it.
