so all of Peter’s actions towards Neal in s5, especially at the end of the first episode, were Not Okay, but I think it was really fucked up how Peter used the “we’re your family” card ESPECIALLY after the whole thing with Neal’s dad. Like you confide in this guy “yeah i consider you more of a family to me than my own flesh and blood” and then he uses it against you to tell you that you’re just a criminal and oh, btw, you’re getting an entirely new handler who you don’t even know! And Peter does it all under the justification of “protecting” Neal. Not cool!

I get the complexities of the situation but I feel like people are too lenient on Peter bc the show likes to make him out as the good/right one (the copaganda is showing)

i complain a lot about certain characters that are love interests to one of the main scooby gang not having dynamics or friendships outside of their partner and while it's especially true for someone like tara, i do really, really love seeing the dynamic she has with people within the scooby gang. like buffy, but anya and dawn especially. they're two people who are on the outskirts of the gang but they love her so much and protect her fiercely and vice versa. you see it when willow goes into buffy's mind to try and bring her back after dawn being taken by glory, anya's so ready to do whatever she needs to do to help her and keep her safe, especially when she's not all there.

on the topic of 5 episode runs in txf (my opinion being that the first 5 episodes are some of the best of the whole series, on their own and as a collective) i was wondering if their were other sets of 5 that would come close to that. mine are:

pilot deep throat squeeze conduit and the jersey devil, as mentioned above, are quite literally peak television and set up the series perfectly (@cutemothman sums it up very well here)

drive triangle dreamland I dreamland II and how the ghosts stole christmas from the beginning of season 6 is also very strong, drive being the only weak episode for me (though still a good episode, i just think the others are on another level) (i'm watching htgsc right now, it's also peak television imo)

there has to be a perfect set in season 3 but it's tricky for me... i think my pick would be jose chung's from outer space avatar quagmire wetwired and talitha cumi, a good set to finish off the season

anyway i'd be interested to hear if y'all have other sets of 5!! maybe a silly prompt but fun to think about :)

i keep thinking about the mid-season premiere of s7 and while i've come around to the idea and understanding of why they went this way, i think part of what makes the eight/nine months seem like a lifetime away (aside from the fact that it's over half a year lmao) is how there's all these different events happening before we get the new season — halloween, thanksgiving, christmas, new year's, a presidential election, a presidential inauguration

prev post there are a couple of tommy/ada fics in the tag and i did try to read them with an open mind, but they genuinely didn't work for me & it's not the kind of read i have on their relationship. i think that sort of sacred innocent sibling bond, while with it's own degree of dysfunction, is important to them, it's unimaginable and heartbreaking to have it transgressed, even consensually or that the desire exists in either tommy or ada at all

(i didn't help that these stories came across to me as out of character as well, but i'm not sure i could be convinced with a "good" characterization, the thing itself prevents that)

like from end of s3 on and perhaps even all along a lot of the major players in sayer are doing the end of higurashi old maid metaphor right where here the question is whether to stick someone with the old maid early and end the game, or whether to let things play out slowly until the game is over, or whether to protect the current players from losing by introducing a new player who's job is to get stuck with the old maid. but like so long as youre playing a game that has a loser youre going to be led down some evil paths and of course in this particular metaphor the old maid card is "being designated unfit to take part in an ideal future population"
