cowboys are secretly fond of each other
Summary: Years of not celebrating his birthday had conditioned Dean to not expect anything more than buying himself a case of beer, and drinking until life seemed slightly more bearable. But that was before Dean married Cas. Now, they celebrate these special occasions—together. Usually, Cas isn’t so subtle with his “secret” celebration plans. But this year when Dean wakes up on his birthday, Cas isn’t lying in bed next to him. Instead, there’s a mysterious note on Cas’ pillow saying: Come and find me, Cowboy. Dean has no idea what his husband has planned for his birthday, but he does know that he is completely in love with Cas, and this is the best birthday he’s ever had.
Word count: 3.5k (continued under the read more). Also posted on ao3.
Happy 44th birthday, Dean!
There were a lot of things Dean was expecting for his birthday. Most of that included, well…not doing anything, really.
Yeah, sure, he was turning 44, which in itself was a miracle. Dean hadn’t expected to live past thirty, let alone make it into his forties and to have everything he never let himself hope for. It was…surreal. And Dean had never been happier in his entire life.
“This is a big deal,” Cas said around his toothbrush just a week before Dean’s birthday. “You’re going to be 44. That’s double 4’s right there, very important.”
“Important for what, exactly?” Dean asked, wrapping his arms around Cas’ waist and huffing a minty-fresh breath across the back of Cas’ neck.
Cas smiled, cleaning his toothbrush and putting it back into the holder next to Dean’s. He turned in Dean’s arms, pressing his lips to Dean’s and lingering in the kiss, making Dean feel a little breathless as he chased that minty flavor on Cas’ tongue. “For everything,” Cas murmured against Dean’s mouth, nudging them backwards towards the bed, causing Dean to laugh as he pulled Cas closer, closer, closer.
Years of not celebrating his birthday had conditioned Dean to not expect anything more than buying himself a case of beer and drinking until life seemed slightly more bearable.
But now–now they’d saved the world and he’d retired—only after saving a certain Angel, and kissing said Angel stupid, muttering between frantic kisses that of course you can have this and I’m yours as long as you’ll have me —there was a reason to celebrate. And Cas liked secretly planning special things for those celebrations.
Except Cas wasn’t usually good at the whole subterfuge thing when it came to surprises. Last year, he’d accidentally let slip to Dean the present he’d gotten him for his birthday a whopping three weeks before the actual day. And he’d left scribbled notes for their wedding anniversary plans on the same page he’d made his shopping list that he’d then accidentally given to Dean when Dean had gone to the grocery store.
All of that to say, Dean wasn’t used to doing anything for his birthday, but now that Cas was in his life, he’d started to warm up to the idea of celebrating, and maybe sometimes, or most of the time, figuring it out prior to the actual day.
But after their conversation in the bathroom, Cas hadn’t mentioned anything. There were no obvious notes left for Dean to find, no secretive, hushed phone calls that clearly meant Cas was scheming with Sam and Eileen. Everything was weirdly…normal. And Dean didn’t know if that meant something was happening, or that maybe the novelty of celebrating had worn off and no one was planning to do anything.
Dean didn’t mind. He really didn’t. If he got to spend the whole day with Cas doing exactly what they did every day, then it would still be the best birthday of his life.
But when Dean’s eyes fluttered open on January 24th, there was no Angel pressing kisses to his face. No warm arms wrapped around him. No firm legs straddling his waist with the promise of something breathtaking and delicious.
Feeling a lurch in his chest, Dean looked around the room, expecting to see Cas in the bathroom getting ready, or maybe at their desk doing his early morning sketches. But there was no Cas.
Instead, there was a note on Cas’ pillow, written in his messy scrawl.
Come and find me, Cowboy.
A smile tugged at Dean’s lips and a fluttering tumbled through his chest. Cas only called him "Cowboy" when it was late at night during movie date night—when they were on their third movie of the night and it was some old Western, and Dean’s head was dropping against Cas’ shoulder in exhaustion. Cas would smile, brushing a soft kiss against Dean’s temple, murmuring, “C’mon, Cowboy, let’s go to bed.”
Seeing the nickname on the note now made Dean’s heart stutter in his chest, and he snagged the note, sliding it for safe-keeping inside the drawer of his nightstand. Grabbing one of the worn-out sweatshirts that Cas usually wore, Dean pulled it on along with an old pair of jeans and made his way out of their room on his search for Cas.
He didn’t make it far. At the end of the hallway was a small wrapped box with another note perched on top. Smiling, Dean bent down and picked up the note, tracing his thumb over Cas’ name at the bottom of the page.
Happy birthday, Dean. Follow the trail of presents and you’ll find me. Hurry up, Cowboy. ~ Cas
Dean’s heart skipped a beat, and he held the box close to his chest. God he just…how had he gotten so lucky to call Cas his?
Sliding his thumb under the tape, Dean tore off the paper and opened the box. Reaching inside, Dean picked up the folded material and watched it unfurl in front of him. The laugh that bubbled up made Dean feel giddy, and he clutched the clothing against his heart.
“Oh, Cas, I adore you,” Dean said out loud, another surge of joy bursting in his chest. Placing the empty box down on the ground, Dean used his free hand and tugged Cas’ sweatshirt off. Folding the sweatshirt and setting it onto one of their hall tables, Dean tugged on the serape that Cas had gifted him. It was blue with green zig zag patterns, warm and softer than Dean had imagined.
Cowboy indeed.
With a grin on his face, Dean peered into their little library, but there was no sign of Cas. A quick look into Jack’s room also came up empty. Making his way towards the stairs, Dean caught sight of another gift perched on the last step at the bottom of the stairs.
Smiling brightly, Dean made his way down the staircase. Sitting down on the last step, Dean pulled the gift closer. What had he done to deserve more than one gift?
Another note was sat on top of the gift.
44 and you’re more beautiful than ever. What do you say, Cowboy? Be my date to your birthday party?
Yeah, Dean was absolutely head over heels for this dorky angel.
Tucking the note into his pocket next to the first one, Dean picked up the box and slowly peeled back the paper. When he saw what was inside, placed on a bed of tissue paper, he felt his heart do that little thing in his chest that was reserved for fond moments specifically related to Cas.
Because this…this was something they’d talked about only a few weeks ago. But Dean was certain he’d been the one whispering into Cas’ ear how good it would look on Cas’ thigh. But here one was…just for Dean.
Sliding the holster out from the box, Dean strapped it around his thigh. He could just imagine how Cas would react when he saw Dean wearing the holster, and it was enough to send a shiver of excitement down Dean’s spine. Maybe Cas was playing into Dean’s fantasies here, but a part of Dean knew this would do something for Cas, too.
A sarape and a thigh holster? God, this really was the best day of Dean’s life.
Standing up from his place perched on the staircase, Dean was even more ready to find Cas right this very second and kiss him stupid.
If Cas was waiting for him, where would he be?
Taking a left, Dean made his way to the kitchen.
But instead of finding Cas in his favorite reading nook—that just so happened to be just a few feet from the kitchen counter where Dean spent most of his time cooking—there was another box sitting on their kitchen table.
That feeling bursting in Dean’s chest was beginning to threaten to consume his entire heart. How could there possibly be more presents?
This time, there was a little sketch of a horse on the note, with the words Ride ‘em, Cowboy written across the page. Dean laughed to himself, tracing over the sketch and smiling fondly. God, when he found Cas he was going to kiss him and not stop.
Opening the third box, Dean felt his breath catch as his eyes caught sight of a beautiful new pair of cowboy boots. His initials ‘DW’ were stitched into the dark brown leather, along with an intricate black pattern weaving down the boots and across the toe.
“Cas Winchester, I am so in love with you,” Dean murmured, brushing his fingers across the smooth leather as he shook his head in awe. This was…it was too much. How was Dean ever supposed to love his angel more than he did right now?
Gently removing the boots from the box, Dean slipped them on. If he smiled anymore than he was right now, he swore his cheeks might actually burst from happiness.
“C’mon, Cas, where are you?” Dean said out loud. “Come here and let me kiss you.”
Moving out of the kitchen, new cowboy boots thumping against the wood floor, Dean made his way towards the living room.
Cas wasn’t sitting on their couch waiting for him. But in Cas’ place, another beautifully wrapped blue box was perched on the seat. Dean stopped in the doorway for a moment, eyes lingering on the gift. Is this what Cas had meant when he’d said that Dean's 44th birthday was important for everything? Because this was just…it was too perfect. And clearly took more planning than Dean could even imagine. It was too much, and Dean felt like his chest was going to implode from the sheer amount of feelings he had for his angel.
How was he ever going to show Cas how much he loved him? There were no words that could describe how much this meant to him.
Ever-so-gently, Dean picked up the note on top of the box. You’re almost there. One last stop to go, Cowboy. Are you ready?
Shaking his head, mostly to shake away the sudden tears that were welling up, Dean peeled back the wrapping paper and opened the box.
“Oh, Cas,” Dean said softly, eyes burning as he caught sight of the new Stetson cowboy hat in the box. Engraved with his initials on the brim, just like the boots, the hat was a deep dark brown with a lighter brown band and buckle.
Oh god.
Dean recognized the hat. It was one he’d seen a few months ago. He’d pointed it out to Cas, whistling low and elbowing his husband, telling him how nice the hat looked. And Cas had gone back and brought it, specifically because Dean had casually pointed out that he’d liked it.
Yep, Dean officially had the world’s best husband.
Pressing the hat comfortably on his head, Dean traced his fingers over the brim reverently. He’d been telling himself for years now that he should get a better hat than the one he’d gotten all those years ago with Cas on the hunt in Dodge City. Trust Cas to read Dean's mind and get him a gift he would really love.
“Alright, Cas. Tell me where you are so I can kiss you and never stop kissing you,” Dean said out loud.
He’d searched the whole house now, but there was no sign of the angel.
Looping back through the kitchen, Dean was about to head in the direction of the garage, when something caught his eye.
Moving towards the back door that led out to the patio and backyard, Dean’s eyes landed on the rope that was looped around the door handle. One last note from Cas was taped to the door. Catch me if you can, Cowboy.
Oh.
A lasso.
Dean couldn’t help but laugh again as he snagged the lasso and hooked it into his belt loop.
His outfit was complete. Cas had thought of everything. Maybe that meant he’d roped Cas into watching too many Western movies if he was able to put together an entire cowboy theme like this. It was ridiculous and utterly perfect.
Grinning to himself, Dean opened the door and was immediately met with a burst of voices yelling, “Surprise! Happy birthday Dean!”
Dean darted his eyes around the patio, and that bursting happiness jolted a roll of laughter up from his chest.
The entire patio was decorated in a cowboy theme. Fake saloon doors, cacti, plastic cowboy hats. Horse saddles draped over the patio railings; horseshoes and drinks set out on bales of hay. A cake shaped like a cowboy hat and cowboy boot mugs sat on their patio table.
Everyone was dressed as cowboys, too.
Sam and Eileen, Jody and Donna, Claire and Jack, and Bobby and Charlie.
And there was Cas, the same cowboy hat Dean had gotten him all those years ago perched haphazardly on his head, looking absolutely perfect with his trenchcoat and a little yellow star badge pinned to his lapel. Dean felt completely weak in the knees, and he reached out to snag Cas by the belt loops to pull him closer.
“Cas,” Dean murmured, brushing his nose against the angel’s.
“Happy birthday, Cowboy,” Cas said quietly, his own hands settling low on Dean’s waist. “Looks like you found me.”
Dean swallowed thickly—a sudden lump in his throat as he darted his gaze towards his family and all the cowboy themed decorations before looking back at Cas again.
“You are–” Dean started, quickly breaking off as he shook his head. “Cas,” he breathed out, at a loss for words. “You are just– I love you.”
Tilting his head, Dean chased Cas’ mouth, finally capturing Cas’ lips in a kiss that he’d been desperate for all morning.
Cheers erupted behind them, and Dean grinned into the kiss as he pulled Cas impossibly closer. When they broke apart, Cas had the softest smile on his face, and Dean leaned in quickly just to feel that tender smile against his lips.
“What do you think?” Cas asked once Dean had kissed him another four, five, six times. “Was that a yes to being my date to the party?”
Dean laughed again, happy and carefree, and damn—he couldn’t remember laughing this much in his entire life. But it was just…he was just…he’d never been this happy. Except for his wedding day, but that was only because Cas said "I do" and how could anything ever top that?
“You. Are. Absolutely. Ridiculous. And. I. Love. You,” Dean said, dotting kisses to Cas’ lips between each word.
Now it was Cas’ turn to laugh, and Dean moved to seal his lips against Cas’, absorbing that gorgeous sound between their mouths so that Dean could sear it into his mind for the rest of his life.
“So that was a yes?” Cas asked several minutes later after Dean was sure he’d kissed every square inch of Cas’ lips.
“Hell yes,” Dean grinned, stealing another kiss just because he could.
Cas smiled again, the beautiful, gummy smile that made Dean feel completely weak in the knees and breathless all at once. “Good. Although, I was quite hoping you’d use that lasso of yours to pull me into a kiss.”
As soon as the words were out of Cas’ mouth, Dean felt his throat go dry. Well hot fucking damn. Yeah, okay, that was definitely a fantasy Dean had never thought of, but now the idea was there and it was suddenly all that Dean wanted.
“Oh I can definitely do that,” Dean said, brushing his nose along the shell of Cas’ ear. Dropping his voice into a whisper, he murmured, “And this thigh holster is going to look even better when it’s around your thigh.”
Cas shuddered, his eyes flickering down to Dean’s thigh, and the way Cas swallowed slowly and thickly made Dean’s heart start a fast tempo beat against his ribs.
“If you two could stop making out for five seconds, we could get this party started,” Sam called out from behind them.
Dean ignored the jab, flipping Sam off before yelling back, “Party can’t start without me, so you can wait until I’m done kissing my husband.”
Turning his attention back to Cas, Dean reached up to trace his thumb along Cas’ lower lip. “Thank you,” he said, trying and failing to find words to really describe how he felt. “This is– it’s–”
“Not too much, is it? I might have gone a little overboard with the cowboy theme,” Cas admitted, chewing at the corner of his lip.
Dean tugged Cas’ lip free from his teeth, and instead pressed his own lips against that same corner of Cas’ mouth. “God, no. It’s perfect. You’re perfect.”
The smile that lit up Cas’ face was enough to rival the late morning sunshine. It made Dean feel a little windswept, like he’d been caught up in the breeze of Cas’ radiance.
Reaching up, Cas adjusted the cowboy hat on Dean’s head until it was tilted at the perfect angle for him to lean in and press their lips together. “You know I love you, Dean.”
Smiling into the kiss, Dean peppered one, two, three lingering brushes against Cas’ mouth. “I might’ve known that, yeah.”
Letting out a huff, Cas pretended to pull away, but quickly swooped back in to chase Dean’s lips with his. “What I meant was–” Cas started to say, but Dean cut him off, stealing another long lingering kiss.
When they broke apart, Cas had this fond look on his face that quite literally took the breath out of Dean’s lungs. “What I was trying to say, before you rudely interrupted me,” Cas teased.
“You’re right. So rude of me to steal kisses from you. On my birthday,” Dean grinned, nudging his nose against Cas’.
Cas huffed out a laugh, shifting to press their foreheads together, almost knocking both of their cowboy hats off in the process. “There won’t be any more birthday kisses if you don’t let me finish what I was trying to say.”
Dean shifted his hand, which was currently wrapped in the lapel of the trenchcoat, and held it up in a sign of surrender.
Snagging Dean’s hand, Cas pressed a kiss to the heel of Dean’s palm before he spoke again. “I love you. And I’d go anywhere in time with you. Here, right now, or back in the Old West. Whatever makes you happy.”
Dean felt like his chest was about to crack open, heart beating and bleeding solely for Cas. Dragging Cas forward, Dean connected their lips together again, tracing over Cas’ lower lip with his tongue. “You’re such an idiot,” Dean muttered against Cas’ mouth. “I’m happiest with you. Nothing else matters except being with you.”
When their lips met again, Dean swore they’d never shared a kiss filled with this much happiness. It was laughter and uncontained joy, and a sweetness that couldn’t be quantified.
“Alright, enough with the lovefest or I’m eating this cake without you,” Sam called out.
Dean broke the kiss slowly, making sure to linger in the way Cas’ breath stuttered out against his lips—the telltale sign that Cas was utterly awestruck with the way Dean had just kissed him.
“C’mon, birthday Cowboy,” Cas said, linking their hands together and finally taking a step away from Dean’s hold. “There’s more to celebrate.”
Dean let Cas lead him towards the patio table where the rest of the family was waiting with a stack of gifts and drinks in the cowboy boot glasses. There were a lot of hugs and "happy birthdays" and a lot of teasing about Dean’s love of cowboys. Every gift Dean opened from his family was cowboy themed, and Jody and Donna surprised him with plans to go to a bar later that night with a mechanical bull.
Dean could’ve sworn the smile on his face was now permanent—that he was going to be wearing his happiness like a brand every day for the rest of time.
As the day shifted into evening, and everyone was out in the yard eating burgers and slices of cake, Dean snagged hold of Cas’ wrist to steal him away. Guiding his husband out towards the shore of the lake, Dean lightly draped the lasso over Cas’ shoulders. Tugging on the rope lightly, Dean pulled Cas closer until they were pressed against each other. “Looks like I got you this time. Whaddya say, partner? Think I can steal another kiss now?”
Cas grinned, leaning in close until they were breathing in each other’s air. “I’m all yours,” Cas replied.
When their lips met in a soft kiss, slow and deep, Dean hummed happily, using his free hand to adjust Cas’ cowboy hat so he could bring Cas closer, closer, closer.
Dean didn’t used to expect anything for his birthday. But now – now he had something to hope for, and as long as his day started and ended with Cas, then it was the best birthday he’d ever had.

Sunflower On the Battlefield (Erwin Smith x Reader)
Word count: 4 290
Disclaimer: english is not my first language, I apologize in advance for any mistakes
Summary: Even before Erwin Smith became the Commander of the Survey corps, he was somehow afraid to fall in love and confess his feelings. But as we all know, love works in mysterious ways and sometimes even the smallest actions can direct our lives in new directions. All it took for Erwin, was to receive a small gift in a form of a sunflower.

Sunflower On the Battlefield
The morning air was unusually cold, even though winter was still far away. But it has always been your favorite part of the year. The foggy mornings, cozy afternoons, and cold nights. All the time spent under a fuzzy blanket with a good book, a cup of hot tea, and fire cracking peacefully in the fireplace.
Your whole life revolved around your family's little farm. You were born behind Wall Maria, not that far from Trost District, where your father originally came from. But one day he decided to leave the crowded city life and start living his dream in the middle of nature. In between smaller hills, near the forest, and just a short walk from the river. He always dreamed about breeding, and selling horses, but never thought about having an official contract with the Survey Corps.
Their horses needed to be bred very specially to allow them to outrun Titans during outside-the-wall expeditions. All of them were capable of running for long distances and weren't easily frightened by Titans. They had all the best qualities and cost a fortune. Well... for ordinary people, of course. The military was always capable of paying for everything they needed. And they paid well, so all the troubles with breeding were worth it.
At least that's what your father used to say.
„When are they supposed to arrive?“ you asked while brushing your favorite horse – a majestic white mare named Lora. It was love at first sight between the two of you because you were the one who helped her into this world. With almost zero experience but a strong will to help her survive and thrive.
„Don't know, maybe in an hour.“
„And how many of them? You haven't told me anything, which is really unlike you. You usually don't have secrets, not from me.“
„I don't have secrets, they just haven't told me anything this time.“
„But why?“ you demanded an answer.
„Can you stop?“ he murmured angrily. „I told you everything I know. Are you in a hurry or something?“
„No, but I don't want to spend the whole day just standing around and waiting for the Commander and his men.“
„You never know, maybe your sister will come with them.“
„No, I don't think so. She would let us know, she always does that.“
A short letter from the Survey Corps arrived three days ago. They asked your father for six new horses and today was the day they were supposed to come and choose their new four-legged comrades.
It was always a big thing for your father, but not as much for you. Just another regular day with a lot of fuss and unwanted attention.
„She seemed a little down the last time she came around here.“
„I mean... she lost her best friend just a couple of days earlier. They were inseparable since childhood, it had to be a massive shock.“ Losing a friend is hard enough, even without seeing her being eaten by a bloody Titan. „I doubt it gets easier,“ you murmured quietly.
„Of course it doesn′t, not for people like her. Or like you.“
„That′s the reason why I never joined their ranks.“
„And I′m glad.“ You shortly nodded at his firm tone and turned your attention back to the horse.
Of course he was glad. It was a miracle he let your sister go to the academy and join the military. You were never that lucky. But maybe it was for the best. Killing Titans was for the brave and strong, not for pathetic weaklings. A quiet life on your farm was a much better option.
The Survey Corps arrived within an hour. Your father was thrilled and welcomed the small group in green capes with a huge smile on his face. You stayed back, sat on the porch, and cuddled the tiny white punny you got just a few days ago. Snow Ball, as you named it, was a gift from the neighbors. They coulnd′t possibly imagine taking care of more dogs so the smallest and probably the fluffiest one of them ended up in your care.
The only thing that caught your attention was a tall blonde-haired, and blue-eyed soldier. Squad leader Erwin Smith, who smiled at you just as warmly as ever. The two of you got to know each other a few years back and became pretty good friends. Your mutual love for animals, especially horses, brought you closer with every exchanged letter.
But when it came down to talking in person, both of you were quite shy and... well, not the biggest social butterflies. You always exchanged just a few words before nerves got the best of you and you just smiled at each other like love-struck fools.
Except for the fact that you and Erwin were not in love.
„Hey, it′s nice to see you again.“
„Erwin, hey, how are you? You never answered my last letter.“
„Yeah, I know... sorry,“ he muttered and ran his right hand through his hair. Always perfectly combed back and styled with a lot of care. It gave him a really neat and clean look. „I meant to do that during our last expedition when things got a little quieter during the evening. But...“
„Let me guess, Titans got in the way?“
„Kinda... yeah... you know how it is out there.“
„Not really, I've never been outside Wall Maria. All I know is mostly from the stories you or my sister tell me.“
And that had to be enough.
Once, many years ago, you dreamed about going to the academy and becoming a part of the Survey Corps. But that was only a foolish, childish dream. At least for you – your older sister did just what she always dreamed of. She trained hard and when the right time came, she joined her heroes and became a hero herself.
„But I guess it got pretty rough. You never forget to write me back. I got a little worried, that something bad may have happened.“
He shrugged and with a soft smile came a few steps closer. „New puppy?“
„Named him Snow Ball.“ Erwin smiled a bit more brightly, bowed down, and patted the tiny creature in your lap on its fluffy head. „Got him from the neighbors just a few days back. He′s still pretty tiny and needs a ton of love.“
„So you got your hands pretty full these days.“
„Yeah, you could say that.“ Behind his back, your father was talking to Commander Keith Shadis, his good old friend from the days they both lived behind Wall Rose. They were childhood friends and former neighbors. Three other cadets, whom you have never seen before, were waiting by their horses. „And how was your latest expedition? Learned anything new?“
„No, not really. We just... you know... lost a lot of good people, but didn′t really move forward. Not in a way we hoped to.“
With a slow nod you looked to the ground, your heart rate slowly rising. Your nerves were on the edge – again. This man... vise, strong and brave could drive you crazy just by looking in your direction.
And it was never certain why. You were pretty certain that it had nothing to do with falling in love with him. But still... when talking to the tall and handsome Erwin Smith, you felt something special in your whole body. A really comforting and warm feeling.
„I′m sure your next journey will bring more success. It has to, right? Nobody′s got bad luck forever. You all are the hope of mankind, never forget that. “
„Please, never say those words again. I′m tired of hearing them over and over again. Especially after every failed expedition.“ He gritted his teeth and turned his face away. His words were almost colder that the still-blowing wind. „The people always welcome us with such high hopes, but all we really do is...“ You waited a few seconds, but it was quickly clear that Erwin didn′t even want to finish his sentence. He just shook his head, patted Snow Ball on its head one last time, and then stood up again.
„Don′t be so hard on yourself. I know you, Erwin. There is nobody who wants to succeed as much as you.“ You stood up, put the puppy down, and grabbed Erwin's hand. „Come with me, I want to show you something.“
„We′ll be leaving soon...“
„It′s just around the house, “you assured him and led the way down the stairs from the small porch. The farmhouse was small but cozy and warm. Most of the lot was reserved for growing different types of vegetables and fruits, the rest being left for the animals. Chickens, ducks, pigs, and horses in two big stables. „Remember what I was talking about in my last letter?“
„It was five pages long.“
You laughed and squeezed his hand a bit tighter. As if you were afraid he might run away if he got the slightest chance. „My letters are always long, you should have gotten used to it, soldier.“
„I got used to it. That wasn′t a reproach, just a little reminder.“
„You don′t have to remind me. I know exactly what I wrote about... every single thing, even the slightest detail.“ He smiled teasingly as his thumb brushed across your knuckles. „Erwin...“ you breathed out heavily and almost tripped.
God dammit!
„Careful!“ he blurted out and steadied you again. You risked a quick look at his face – it was hard to tell which one of you blushed harder. „Sorry, I′m...“
„I′ve always been extremely clumsy, one of the main reasons why I never joined your ranks,“ you laughed it off with a still wildly pounding heart. „Anyways... I was telling you how my sunflowers were doing. I chose different seeds this year, those from last summer weren′t the best.“
„Oh... yeah, the sunflowers.“
You rolled your eyes. „You didn′t pay attention to that part of my letter, did you?“
„Growing flowers isn′t exactly my cup of tea.“
„And killing Titans isn′t mine, but I always carefully read everything you write me. You should focus more next time.“
You almost jumped from surprise when he freed his hand from your grip, folded his left arm behind his back, and brought his right fist up to his heart. „As you wish, my lady! I promise to do better next time. Every little detail will be holy to me, no matter what topic it will talk about. I am gonna cherish your every word and even dream about everything you so kindly shared with an unworthy peasant like me.“
„Oh... I′m flattered, future Commander Erwin Smith,“ you answered with a cocky voice and fanned your face with your hand. „And don′t look so surprised, we both know that it′s just a matter of time. You deserve to be Commander, no one is better suited for that position.“
„What if I don′t want it?“ he asked with a sharp voice.
You shook your head in pure shock. His icy blue eyes were steadily fixed on your face – as if he was studying every little freckle around your nose. „Why wouldn′t you? We've talked about it, you seemed like you can′t wait for that day.“
Erwin Smith wasn′t an open book – not to you, at least. You both had secrets, innocent white lies, and topics darker that the night sky. Just like everybody else. But despite that, you had a feeling, at least most of the time, that you knew him pretty well. But then came times like these, when he distanced himself in a blink of an eye and made you question everything.
„Maybe we should leave it be, the day is too pretty to be ruined with stupid babbles,“ you said calmly and grabbed his hand again.
Erwin didn′t say a word for the rest of the way. You led him to the back of the house, where your vegetable garden was thriving more and more every day. But the thing you wanted to show him was beautifully growing just alongside the white fence. Big-headed sunflowers almost as tall as yourself. They were rich in multiple colors – yellows, oranges, and even blood reds.
„Soooo...“ you teased Erwin and nudged his arm with your elbow playfully. „Aren′t they beautiful? I never imagined them growing this tall, it′s unbelievable.“ Every word you said was filled with pride and pure happiness. For someone like Eriwn, this could be a useless little detail, but for you, it was the biggest accomplishment of the year. After last year, when your favorite flowers didn't bloom even once, you were determined to fill the garden with the most beautiful sunflowers this world has ever seen. „What do you think?“
Erwin smiled softly and stepped closer. „How did you do that? I′ve never seen such beautiful sunflowers.“
„Natural talent, tons of prayers, and maybe a dash of black magic.“ You winked playfully as Erwin reached out and carefully caressed a few bright yellow petals.
„Tell me more about your dash of black magic.“
„Hmmm, interesting,“ you whispered in an ominous voice. „The one and only Erwin Smith is interested in sorcery and occultism? What would your Commander and the other Scouts say?“ You waited for his response, but all of his attention was focused on the flowers. Just for a short couple of seconds, but he completely transformed right before your eyes. The corners of his mouth curled slightly upwards, his eyes softened and his whole posture relaxed.
As if the weight of the whole world just lifted from his broad shoulders.
„You can take some of them back with you. They′ll make a nice decoration wherever you put them,“ you offered and reached for one of them as well. „Well... if you′d like,“ you added quietly.
Erwin reached behind his belt and pulled out a small pocket knife. With one swift move, he cut the sun-like flower. „I′ll take this one, the rest is better off here.“
„They won′t stay like this for much longer.“
„Which is a shame, just imagine them against the snow-covered nature all around.“
„What if we...“
„Erwin!“ Both of you froze when Commander Shadis called his name. You slightly turned your head and saw the Commander, your father, and the other Scouts carefully watching the two of you. „Come on, let′s get the horses and head back. You two can finish your date some other time.“
Heat rose to your cheeks as you turned your head away and bit your lower lip. One of the Scouts chuckled as Erwin put his knife away and extended his hand towards you. Carefully, not to hurt you in any way, he tugged a strand of hair behind your ear and smiled down at the sunflower in his other hand.
„Thank you.“
„You don′t have to thank me, it′s just a flower.“
Erwin smiled softly, stroked your cheek, and withdrew his hand. You almost reached for it just to stop him. „I didn′t mean the flower.“ With this, he smiled once more, turned around, and started walking toward the Commander. „The next few days will be busy, but I′ll try to write you something. At least a couple of words, just to keep the conversation going.“
„I′d really like that.“
Your heart was pounding the entire time you watched them pick out their new horses – two chestnut mares, one black, and three white stallions – and eventually leave your farm behind.
„I would be glad if he asked for your hand in marriage,“ said your father from behind your back. His hands were full of money he just got from Commander Shadis. It looked like he won′t have to worry about money for some time. „Erwin is a good guy, brave soldier, fearless leader, and maybe a future Commander. Being his wife would suit you.“ He smiled and came to stand next to you.
„We are just friends,“ you reminded him immediately and wrapped your arms around your torso. The wind was picking up as if a storm was coming somewhere from the distance. „I don′t think he would want to marry me.“
„Well... I saw what I saw, dear daughter. Once, a long time ago, I was young and lovestruck too. I know how that feels and looks.“
„Good for you, I guess,“ you muttered, turned on your heel, and went inside the warm house.
Your own feelings and thoughts were confusing you. What was today about? Did he act like that on purpose? Was there... was there really a chance he liked you more than just a friend? Did you want to become something more than friends?
Erwin had a bright and successful future ahead of him. You were sure of it. And in that case... were you really the right woman to stand by his side? Could you imagine yourself as the next Commander's wife?
Similar thoughts and questions of uncertainty hauted your mind for the next couple of days. It was a great deal to hide them from your father, who always kept a close eye on you. That's why he immediately noticed the change in your mood when a letter from the Survey Corps HQ arrived. You didn't dear to open it in his presence, so you hid the letter away and waited until nightfall when you were alone in your room, just your puppy keeping you company.
My dearest,
I′m guilty, I know that. More than a week went by and I haven′t sent a word. Please, take my deepest and most sincere apology. My duties kept me busy day and night, I can′t remember the last time I had a decent sleep. But don′t take my rumblings as some sort of weak excuse, I should have found time to write. Well... actually answer your last letter, since I still haven′t done that. Wish there was more to say, something positive or exciting. The only good news I have is that your sunflower is still going strong – looking just as beautiful as the day I brought it back from your garden. I have it on my desk in the office, it keeps me company while I work.
That′s about it, I really don′t have much to say. But what about you? Had Snow Ball grown already? I bet he will be chasing the other animals around pretty soon. Make sure to let me know, I would like to see him running around. I hope you are enjoying the last few warm days, fall is approaching quickly. You will have your favorite season in a blink of an eye.
Let me know if there is anything I can do for you or your father. I think I can make some time to come by your house for a quick visit. Maybe admire your beautiful sunflowers for the last time this season.
Take care and don′t forget to show the world your smile every chance you get. I make sure to write soon.
Yours sincerely,
Erwin Smith
„You heard that? He keeps my sunflower on his desk,“ you said to the puppy with a bright smile and closed your eyes for a second trying to envision the scene.
Erwin sitting at his desk, soft light spilling in from the outside and one of your sunflowers in a simple vase somewhere on the edge of the wooden desk. You could see him buried under tons of papers – battle strategies, some sort of official records, and stuff like that.
Imagining him lifting his head just slightly to look at the flower he took from your garden...
„No, I′m not falling in love with him!“ you said almost immediately and put the letter down. „He also asked about you, so if he shows up sometime soon, it will be because of that. Who wouldn′t want to see a cute puppy like you?“ Snow Ball playfully stuck out its tongue and turned its fluffy head to the right.
You were almost always a loner who never had many friends. Even in school, you sat by yourself most of the time. Your friends... they′ve never been that kind of friends. You never had the feeling you could trust them so you simply kept to yourself. When it came down to having company your sister was always there. Being your best friend and partner in crime, the two of you did everything together and always had each other's back.
Erwin Smith was the closest thing to a real friend you've ever had. You met through your sister when she came to visit. Erwin came along because he lost some kind of stupid bet to her. His punishment was to stay one morning and help you and your father with all the work around the farm. It was a stupid idea, but he completed his tasks with grace and total calmness. Almost as if he was enjoying it.
As you were about to read Erwin's letter again a small knock came from the direction of your window. Your first thought was that you just imagined it. But then the sound repeated itself. With an uneasy feeling you got up from your bed and walked over to the window. The light from a small lantern illuminated the face of the person knocking.
„Erwin?“ you whispered in disbelief, opening the window right away. „What are you doing here?“
„I couldn't sleep,“ he replied from his horse's saddle and put the lantern down on the window sill.
„That's why you came all the way here? Won't you get in trouble?“ he shook his head and reached for your hand, gripping it gently and bringing your knuckles to his lips.
„Did you read my letter?“ You nodded just a little out of breath. He asked even braver than the last time and it took you by surprise. „I rewrote it several times, but still didn't manage to get everything off of my chest.“
A shy smile made its way to your lips as you squeezed his warm hand. „Wanna try again now?“
„We are preparing for another expedition later next week. But until then... I, ehm... I wanted to know if you'd like to go someplace with me?“ he asked almost too quietly. It was funny and sweet and the same time. Man as strong and brave as Erwin was confused by his own feelings just as much as you. „I wanted to ask you last time, but I chickened out at the last moment.“
You laughed slightly, brushing your fingertips along his cheeks lovingly. Getting lost in his blue eyes was so easy, you didn't even have to try. „I would really much like that, Erwin,“ you answered directly, biting your lower lip in an attempt to push back a smile that nevertheless made its way onto your lips.
„Can you believe I was more nervous to ask this question than face a horde of Titans?“
Both of you busted out in laughter, you suddenly scared that your father may hear and find your not-so-secret admirer right under your window. „In that case, I'm even more flattered.“
Loving a member of the Survey Corps wasn't easy.
No... loving them was easy.
Losing them was the hard part.
Getting the news that they didn't make it back from an expedition. That their body was eaten or torn apart by the monsters that controlled your world. That was the hard part. Living in constant fear of losing them because of the path they had chosen.
You constantly worried about your sister while she was chasing her dreams and living her best life. She was happy and would never trade her post for anything. And Erwin was the same. He saw purpose in the things he was doing. Even through hard times and failures. He always moved forward, closer to fulfilling his dreams.
„I should head back,“ he said in a quiet voice and looked over his shoulder. „Better before your dad catches us here.“
„He wouldn’t mind much, you're his hero. He adores you.“
Erwin reised hie eybrows in desbelieve. „Really?“ You nodded, surprised about his sincere reaction. His eyes lit up and a satisfying expression settled on his face. „That’s gonna make many things much easier.“
„What things?“ you asked as he reached for your chin and brought your face closer to his.
„Would it be okay if I kissed you now?“ His voice sounded so sweet and dreamy, despite his obvious nervousness.
Leaning closer you closed the space between the two of you before giving him an answer. His lips were just like you expected – perfect in every way. Kissing him felt so natural, just like breathing. Even more when his fingers got tangled in your hair as he put his hand on the back of your head and pulled you closer.
Your whole body felt like it was on fire. Emotions rushed through your veins, as your eyes fluttered open for a second to make sure he was still there. He was. It wasn’t just a dream. The hungry and loving pressure from his lips against yours felt so right.
Was this the moment you were waiting for your whole life? It really felt like it.
All worries melted away instantly, love was the only emotion that settled itself in your heart. No... it was already there for a couple of months. You truly fell in love with him in early spring but never dared to admit it. Not to him and not to yourself either.
But all of that was thankfully over.
You were no longer afraid to love the man who was seen as humanity’s biggest hope.

It's really time-consuming when I'm finding buyers. Plus, I still have a lot of other things to do so it's not easy to schedule my time in selling secondhand books as a student.
It was a great experience to sell my second-hand book to the freshmen since they surely needed the book that I had used. And they said it was an advantage for them to have the book for future reference because it was the one the teacher was using.
I've tried selling my secondhand books so many times and it has been a big help to me especially to my buyers.
When trying to sell secondhand books, you might experience a range of responses from potential buyers, such as inquiries about book conditions, negotiations on price, and the satisfaction of finding interested buyers.
Nothing significant experience at all.
I feel thankful that they actually bought the book even though it's a secondhand book.
A number of variables, including the book's quality, popularity, price, and target market, must be carefully taken into account while trying to sell used books to potential customers. The likelihood of finding an interested buyer and negotiating a price can be improved by being aware of these elements and changing the sales strategy accordingly.
Summary: When selling, they experience fatigue and time constraints, but also occasional success and satisfaction in finding interested buyers.

It will be a godsend.
It was actually a great idea. It was already conducted by the JPIA officers to connect buyers and sellers of books which was convenient for everyone.

I'm not aware of a specific business in CMU that provides such services, as my knowledge is up to September 2021.
Thankful
Good
There are alternate possibilities available both online and offline, despite the fact that Central Mindanao University does not have a specialized firm that offers services to assist people in selling their used books for free. These possibilities consist of utilizing web resources, taking part in regional occasions or fairs, and contacting nearby bookshops. It is advised to consider several options while evaluating each one's viability in light of the specifics of the situation.
Summary: They are thankful for services like "Preloved Book Bridger".
4. What do you usually do when you're not selling secondhand books?

The books just stay in my cabinet.
Just let the books pile up in my room.
Engage in various activities like reading, working, or pursuing other hobbies.
Standby
Do school activities.
Kung di ko makabaligya og libro, ang akong main focus jud is maka learn sa tapos e analyze ang data in a statistical og logical way, kung unsay angay og di angay buhaton og unsaon pag improve para malutas ang problema.

Answers:

They say things like my secondhand books are not of the best quality so it's not a good business but based on my experience, it's not as bad as I heard from others.

They said that it helps them save more money than actually buying a brand-new one.
People often share their experiences with selling secondhand books, including success stories, challenges, and the importance of presenting books in good condition.

Aside from income I met new friends, which is my potential buyer.
I earn money by doing that and it adds up to my allowance.

Maybe it can no longer be helpful to me, but for others, it may be helpful to get books at a cheap price.
Help me gain extra income and help others to save their money.
Daghag benefits sa pagbaligya og books such as makakuha og compliments sa akong nabuhat, akong positivity og akong dedication sa tanang aspect as a seller. Also, possible pud nga makagain og popularity nga mas maka affect sa akoang willingness nga mag strive pa og e improve pa ang akong works. 7. What are your pains in selling secondhand books?
Answers:
So tiring and shy to sell books.
Hard to find buyers and time-consuming.
It’s not really pain but just some obstacles like in a normal market, there are many competitors/sellers.
So far, there’s none.
Some common pains in selling secondhand books include dealing with negotiating prices, and the effort required to list and manage book sales.
It's enough for me to let it go, but I know it will surely help others.
Some of the buyers beg to lower the price even if it is low enough.
Kung pains, usa na ang mga tawo nga dili maka appreciate sa akoang works and that's okay. We can't force people, as long as makashare ko sa akong passion okay na na sa ako. Secondly, ang gasto. printing book is so expensive, sa ink and pages pa lang daan mahal na, how much more if apil na ang cover? But it doesn't matter as long as you love doing what you're doing, it really doesn't matter.
Summary: Their pains in selling books include tiredness, difficulties in finding buyers, and sometimes having to lower prices, but they also note the importance of book quality and pricing strategies.

Lesson Learned:
From October 9 to 13, we make the Empathy Map Activity. We had to first identify our target market and request permission to conduct an interview at their convenience, offering alternative platforms if the interviews preferred not to have a one-on-one face-to-face interview. This taught us the need to be patient and flexible because some people are exceptionally busy, especially when midterms are approaching. We learned to adjust our plans to accommodate their schedules and needs. Therefore, we the group members are helping each other to accommodate the number of students to reach the answer that we need for our target market.

Music Room
Designed by Lawrence Grant White (1887–1956)
American, Renaissance Style
ca. 1926 - 1928
As early as 1924, Mildred and Robert Woods Bliss began planning a music room addition to Dumbarton Oaks. They engaged Lawrence Grant White (1887-1956) of the New York City architectural firm of McKim, Mead & White to provide plans and design suggestions, and White and Beatrix Farrand, the Blisses’ landscape architect, oversaw the planning and construction of the room. White and the Blisses had some difficulty deciding on a siting for the Music Room, considering and rejecting locations on the sites of the present orangery and loggia-bathhouse in the swimming pool area [as late as April 29, 1926: blueprint, New-York Historical Society, McKim, Mead & White Papers, Bliss House]. Finally, on July 17, 1926 Farrand wrote to White about “the news of the possibility of the music room at the northwest end of the Bliss house in Washington.” John W. Davis, who Farrand brought to Dumbarton Oaks, served as general contractor, and the room was constructed between 1926 and 1928.
The Blisses planned the Music Room to be essentially Renaissance in character (or “Mediterranean,” as White called it in correspondence of December 4, 1924 to Mildred Bliss). Robert Bliss had already envisioned the character of the room by August 25, 1926 when he wrote to White: “We see marbré-stucco wainscot in music room; rough plaster walls; a very good polychromed ceiling (shall it be old or copied?); the best big mantle we can find, and we want a fine floor.” In responding on September 17, 1926, White wrote: “The plaster walls must not be too rough. An old ceiling by all means if we can find one.” On December 29, 1926, Robert Bliss again wrote White: “All things being equal, we do not want modern mechanical and structural details to intrude themselves on the impression of the whole, which we hope to make mellow and old-fashioned.” The Blisses considered adding a double- or triple-arched window on the south wall to the right of the fireplace. Robert Bliss wrote to White on January 20, 1927: “This was very successfully done in Italy and Spain and we do not think it would be inharmonious with the rest of the music-room, which, after all, is a delightful medley of Italian renaissance, French eighteenth century, Georgian and American colonial!” After seeing White’s model for the Music Room [no longer preserved], Bliss wrote in the same correspondence: “It shows that you sense just what we want--simplicity, broad lines, large space. We know that it is a darned nuisance to have to deal with clients at a distance, especially those who go into details as we do, and we are therefore very glad that you like our suggestions as we do yours. It is all bearing fruit.”
The Blisses worked closely with White and Farrand in deciding on the design and the architectural elements used in the room. Although they had wanted an antique Renaissance ceiling and flooring for the Music Room, in 1926 they commissioned the Parisian designer Armand Albert Rateau (1882-1938) to fabricate reproductions (see HC.AE.1929.003). It was also Rateau that eventually suggested the acquisition of the French Renaissance chimneypiece that is in the room (see HC.AE.1929.002). The Blisses acquired in Paris two Italian “Red Verona” marble Renaissance arches which were employed on the east wall (see HC.AE.1927.001.b). The Blisses and White had wanted to use “Rose St. George” marble for the staircase leading into the Music Room, the cheek pieces to the sides of the staircase, and the floor at the foot of the stairs and a border around the room. This scheme was adopted, but Red Verona marble was substituted for Rose St. George in order to match the antique arches. White, in correspondence of September 15, 1927 to Robert Bliss, mentions “reproducing the detail of the two antique archways at the east end of the room,” [New-York Historical Society, McKim, Mead & White Papers, Bliss House] most likely for the Red Verona Palladian bay of the west wall, which Robert Bliss had approved on December 9, 1926. On a plan of the Music Room, dated April 1, 1927, the designation of Rose St. George marble has been changed to Red Verona.

Life After CA: What’s Next? Insights from New CAs
Tumblr media
Becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA) is a monumental achievement, symbolizing not just academic excellence but also a mastery of the complex world of finance, taxation, and auditing. But once the euphoria of passing the final exams fades, many new CAs find themselves asking, "What’s next?" The journey doesn’t end with earning the title; in many ways, it’s just the beginning. As you transition into your professional career, it’s crucial to stay updated with the latest study material for CA to ensure you continue to build on the knowledge that got you this far. Here’s a look at what life after CA might hold and some insights from those who have recently embarked on this exciting new phase.
1. Choosing the Right Career Path
The beauty of a CA qualification is its versatility. CAs are in high demand across various industries, from banking and finance to consulting, taxation, and corporate law. One of the first major decisions you’ll face is choosing your career path. Do you want to work in a Big Four firm, where you can dive deep into auditing and consulting? Or perhaps a corporate role, where you can be part of a company’s strategic decision-making team? Some may even choose to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, leveraging their financial expertise to start their own business.
To navigate these choices effectively, using resources like the CA Foundation Scanner can be invaluable. It helps you grasp essential concepts and prepare strategically, setting a strong foundation for whichever path you choose in your CA journey.
Insight: "I chose to work with a multinational company in their financial planning and analysis team. It’s challenging, but I love being at the heart of strategic decisions for a newly qualified CA.
2. Pursuing Further Specializations
For those who are passionate about learning, the journey doesn’t have to stop with a CA qualification. Many CAs opt to specialize further by pursuing additional certifications like CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), or even an MBA. These qualifications can open doors to higher-level roles in finance, investment banking, and global business leadership.
Insight: "I realized I wanted to focus more on investment management, so I started working towards my CFA designation. It complements my CA knowledge perfectly," shares who passed his CA exams two years ago.
3. Starting Your Own Practice
For those with an entrepreneurial spirit, starting your own CA practice is an enticing option. Running a practice allows you to be your own boss, choose your clients, and build a business that reflects your values and expertise. However, it also comes with its own set of challenges, including the need for strong business acumen, client management skills, and the ability to stay updated with ever-changing regulations. Utilizing resources like the CA Final Scanner can be invaluable in helping you stay prepared and informed, ensuring that your practice adheres to the latest standards and practices.
Insight: "Starting my own practice was daunting, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Every client is a new challenge, and I love the variety in my work who launched her practice a year ago.
4. Balancing Work and Life
One of the most significant transitions from CA student to professional is learning to balance work and life. The intense study schedules are behind you, but now you face the demands of a full-time job, often with long hours and high expectations. It’s essential to find a balance that allows you to grow in your career while also enjoying personal time and pursuing hobbies.
Insight: "The first few months were tough. I had to remind myself to take breaks and enjoy life outside of work. Now, I make time for my hobbies and feel much more balanced," notes a CA who has been in the workforce for six months.
5. Networking and Continuous Learning
Even after becoming a CA, continuous learning and networking are crucial for career growth. Attending seminars, workshops, and networking events can help you stay updated with industry trends and connect with peers and mentors who can guide your career. Additionally, referring to CA entrance exam books can be a great way to refresh foundational knowledge and stay sharp in your field.
Insight: "I’ve found that networking is key. It’s not just about what you know, but also who you know. Building relationships with others in the field has opened many doors for me who actively participates in CA forums and events.
Conclusion
Life after CA is filled with opportunities, challenges, and the potential for immense growth. Whether you choose to specialize, start your practice, or climb the corporate ladder, the skills and knowledge you’ve gained as a CA will serve as a strong foundation. The journey ahead is exciting, and with the right mindset and continuous learning—such as staying updated with the latest Books for CA Exam—the possibilities are endless. Remember, becoming a CA was just the beginning—what you do next is where the real adventure begins.

The Benefits of CPA Certification: A Global Perspective
Tumblr media
In today’s fast-paced world, the role of accountants is undergoing a major transformation. No longer confined to traditional bookkeeping and auditing, accountants are increasingly expected to possess advanced technological skills and an understanding of financial technologies that drive efficiency and accuracy. This shift is especially prominent in global markets like the United States, where a shortage of accountants is creating significant demand for professionals equipped with both accounting expertise and STEM competencies.
For Indian accountants, the opportunity to meet this demand and thrive in global roles has never been more promising. A CPA certification (Certified Public Accountant), especially one earned through a program like Miles US Pathway, opens doors to a wide array of global opportunities, particularly in the US. Combined with Miles’ integration of STEM skills into its accounting education, professionals are well-prepared to navigate the evolving landscape of the accounting profession.
The Versatility of the CPA Credential
A CPA certification is a powerful credential that signifies a high level of expertise in accounting, auditing, taxation, and financial management. While the Indian Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification holds substantial value within India, the CPA credential is recognized globally, particularly in the US, where it is a requirement for key financial and accounting roles.
Here’s how completing a CPA certification through Miles can unlock global opportunities:
International Recognition: The CPA is recognized as the gold standard for accountants worldwide, providing a universal qualification that allows Indian professionals to work not just in the US but across other regions that follow US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
Diverse Career Pathways: Holding a CPA opens up diverse career opportunities. Whether you want to work in public accounting, corporate finance, consulting, or government, the CPA credential is versatile and provides the flexibility to choose your career path based on your interests and skills.
Access to High-Paying Roles: Completing the CPA exam allows Indian accountants to tap into high-paying roles in the US, where the demand for qualified professionals is skyrocketing due to a shortage of over 300,000 accountants. By acquiring this globally recognized certification, professionals can command competitive salaries in one of the world’s largest financial markets.
Global Career Transitions: Miles Education’s US Pathway program is more than just a certification—it’s a gateway to global career transitions. The program equips Indian accountants with the right knowledge, skills, and industry connections to seamlessly transition into roles at Big 4 accounting firms, multinational corporations, and other leading organizations in the US and beyond.
STEM Integration: The Future of Accounting
In addition to the global recognition that the CPA offers, what sets Miles Education apart is its integration of STEM skills into the accounting curriculum. The increasing role of technology in accounting is pushing professionals to adapt to new tools and methodologies that drive automation, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.
The world is witnessing rapid advancements in technology, and the accounting field is no exception. Today, accountants are expected to leverage data analytics, predictive modeling, and AI-driven technologies to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of their work. Miles Education has recognized this shift and is leading the charge in preparing Indian accountants to succeed in a technology-driven accounting landscape.
How STEM Skills are Changing the Role of Accountants
In a world driven by automation, technology, and big data, the traditional role of accountants has evolved significantly. Accountants today are not only responsible for tracking financial transactions but also for interpreting data, providing insights, and helping businesses make informed decisions.
Here are a few real-world examples of how STEM skills are being applied in accounting:
Data Analytics:
Accountants are now expected to use data analytics to identify trends, anomalies, and patterns in financial data. By harnessing large datasets, they can provide valuable insights that go beyond traditional financial reporting.
For instance, using data analytics, accountants can predict cash flow trends, identify potential risks, and uncover opportunities for cost savings. In a business world where data-driven decisions are paramount, accountants with data analytics skills are in high demand.
Predictive Modeling:
Predictive modeling allows accountants to forecast future financial performance based on historical data. This can be particularly useful for budgeting, forecasting, and planning purposes.
For example, an accountant working with a retail business could use predictive modeling to forecast sales for the next quarter, taking into account factors such as past sales data, seasonal trends, and economic indicators. By doing so, the business can make more informed decisions regarding inventory management, marketing strategies, and capital expenditures.
AI in Auditing:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the field of auditing. Traditional audits, which relied heavily on manual processes, are now being transformed through the use of AI-powered tools that can analyze vast amounts of financial data in real time.
AI can help accountants automate tasks such as fraud detection, risk assessment, and even automating compliance checks. By leveraging AI, auditors can focus on higher-level tasks such as interpreting results and providing strategic advice to clients.
Blockchain and Digital Ledger Technology:
Blockchain is becoming an essential technology in accounting, providing a transparent and secure digital ledger. Accountants can use blockchain to ensure the accuracy and security of financial transactions, reducing the chances of fraud and error.
For instance, many global firms are already using blockchain to streamline their accounting processes by providing a clear and immutable record of all transactions. Accountants who are well-versed in blockchain technology are becoming essential in sectors like banking, real estate, and financial services.
How Miles Education is Leading the Charge
At Miles Education, the focus is on equipping accountants not only with core accounting skills but also with STEM competencies that make them future-ready. The Miles US Pathway goes beyond the traditional CPA certification by incorporating specialized training in areas like data analytics, financial technology, and automation.
By integrating these STEM skills, Miles is preparing Indian accountants to thrive in an era where technology and data are critical to success. Graduates of the Miles program are uniquely positioned to take on roles that require a combination of technical proficiency and financial expertise, making them stand out in the global job market.
Conclusion: A Global Career Awaits
The CPA certification is more than just a credential—it’s a key that opens doors to global opportunities. And when combined with the STEM-focused curriculum provided by Miles, Indian accountants are not only meeting the demands of today’s accounting roles but are also shaping the future of the profession.
Whether it’s working in the US, earning in dollars, or mastering cutting-edge technologies, completing your CPA certification through Miles is the ultimate step toward a rewarding and globally recognized accounting career.

Health Insurance: Some firms offer health insurance benefits to their articles.
Travel Allowances: For firms requiring frequent travel, check if they provide travel allowances or reimbursements.
7. Future Prospects

🔴BREAKING NEWS: PwC is in trouble! ICAI has taken action against its affiliates!! 🤔What happened? Less than a month after The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India took action against EY’s affiliates, PwC’s affiliates have also been targeted.
Actions have been taken against multiple PwC entities, including Price Waterhouse & Co. LLP (New Delhi), Price Water House (Kolkata), Price Waterhouse & Co. (Chennai), Price Waterhouse & Co Chartered Accountants LLP, Price Water House (Bangalore) LLP, Dalal & Shah Chartered Accountants LLP, and Dalal & Shah LLP.
These firms have been ordered to immediately terminate their existing partnerships with international entities due to violations of the CA Act 1949.
Additionally, Dinesh Supekar and Neeraj Gupta have been removed from the register for three years and fined Rs 5 lakhs each.
🧐Why? Due to professional misconduct.
The disciplinary committee determined that these firms had entered into several agreements, such as the Accession Agreement, Name License Agreement, and Firm Services Agreement, which violated relevant laws.
The firms’ visiting cards displayed “@pwc.com,” suggesting a close association with the international entity.
Additionally, there was extensive sharing of human resources, infrastructure, brand name, and contact details, indicating that PwC had substantial control over these firms.
Furthermore, the firms made significant payments to the entity for the use of PwC marks and for the indirect benefit of work referrals.
😲Reactions: ▪ PwC has stated that it is disappointed that the ICAI published its orders publicly, violating court proceedings. ▪ Moreover, they have asked the ICAI to take its orders off their website! ❓Which Big 4 firm is next? KPMG or Deloitte??
