I've been rewatching the Korean version of Tobot, and I thought: why not try and subtitle it?

This would be a massive undertaking that I wish somebody else could have done decently, and my Korean language skills are just barely enough to understand what they say in the original version--but I would still like to try.

If there's anyone willing to see me struggle like a flea to create a more accessible Tobot (or, even better, help me with this project), please tell me. This is something I've wanted for years, and I'd love to try and tackle it.

If so, should I start from the very beginning or translate the pieces unavailable in English dub first?

so uh

there’s this korean mecha anime called biklonz and it’s about 5 siblings and bikes and it’s super cute and there’s four seasons with a 5th season on the way but it’s all in korean with no subs but that didn’t stop me from watching the whole thing. unfortunately, no one in the west knows about this show’s existence but i’m uploading these anyway.

my favourite is reo, the blonde one there, who dropped out of high school to act as homemaker and caretaker for his younger siblings, as well as work from home building arm parts for a toy company, while the eldest sibling works day and night since their parents went missing. and yes, he does look like akiteru, but besides being a good big brother, they have pretty different personalities. reo is kind and caring, but he also has a short temper, is a little strict and can be a little too serious sometimes. but he cares immensely for his siblings and can be protective. he’s also highly skilled and incredibly smart. also, the best part, he’s often associated with cats. he was assigned the leo clone bot, and in the megabeasts arc, was assigned the saber-toothed tiger clone bot. he also takes care of a stray kitty that hangs around their house a lot. another fun fact: he has a disability! a bike accident while he was showing off for his little sister mio a few years ago caused a hearing impairment in his left ear.

anyway, the family also owes this guy they call mr. o a lot of money bc teo, the eldest brother borrowed some to take care of his siblings. the guy is pretty harsh on the family, especially to reo, who has to deal with him most as teo is always out working. his son is in the same class as gio, the redhead and second to youngest, and they’re rivals, always butting heads, which causes even more problems for reo when dealing with mr. o.

i’d say go watch this super cute anime since all the episodes are on youtube, but unfortunately it’s all in korean with no english subs. korean fans on twitter have told me there’s news it’s going to get an english dub later this year, but who knows. i enjoyed the series immensely despite not really understanding it (only really getting the gist by visuals and character cues. some fans on twitter helped me out some as well), so i wonder just how much i’ll enjoy it even more if i understood everything going on!

also pio, the youngest sibling, is the sweetest, most purest cinnamon roll in the world. at least watch it for him.

Biklonz! Given that I can read Korean at about a word a minute, tops, I don't have much to say about the backstory of Biklonz. Since Nininger toys were getting increasing awful and a Biklonz gift set got released I decided to grab it.

The set consists of Leo, Scorpio, Taurus, Aries and Ursa, along with five tiny pilot figurines that fit inside the robots' cockpits, a giant hammer weapon and some kind of cards for a separate role play toy.

Ursa turns from a powerful-looking, if stocky-torsoed bear into a meaty robot that reminds me of Optimus Primal from Beast Wars. Aries (who, yes, has high heels) and Taurus can become pairs of legs and can combine interchangeably with Scorpio and Leo who become upper bodies. Finally the five together can form Biklonz Infinity and wield the mighty hammer.

This is the first time I've bought toys that originated in Korea and I'm pleasantly surprised. The feel of the set is somewhere right between Transformers and Super Sentai, maintaining much of the articulation and complexity of the former with the sheer bulk of the latter. It manages this without snapping like a twig or crumpling with the use of solid connectors and parts that are designed to detach rather than break if there's too much force. The compromise is that the whole is a little shaky.

It's not the best thing ever, but it hits a lot of pluses and is fun if you want to quickly fiddle with something or have a robust display piece.
