Episode 51 - High-Temperature Trap (part 1)

aka, "try not to squeal like a fangirl over Atcham Crepin challenge", the liveblog.

A few episodes ago, we've seen (episode 45 - The Charming Justiciars 2, to be exact), we've seen that it was September. Now, we see it snowing.

I suppose around a year has passed since the beginning of the series.

It is interesting that, to Kerubim, the emotional toll of having to deal with Atcham and Indie, — and realizing that he's worse than Indie at making sacrifices, — is greater than the physical toll of dangerous enemies. He was fighting The Horrors.

This story, therefore, takes place around two years before the war between Bonta and Brakmar, in which Kerubim and Atcham seem to have been Jahash and Julith's seconds-in-command.

It makes me think... Is there, perhaps, a child-shaped little reason why Atcham hasn't tried to kill Kerubim for the past ten years, despite knowing where he lives?

Atcham does seem to know who Joris is, in relation to Kerubim, — even if he didn't know the fact that he was Julith's son. It'd be weird if he didn't know, considering he has a tendency to stalk Kerubim, and does know where they live. Which leads me to the next point:

This absolute nerd realized that he is an uncle now, and probably decided to wait until the kid grew up at least a little, before trying to kill Kerubim again. Because otherwise, it would be amoral and shit.

I mean, he and Kerubim are orphans. It'd be fucked if he did that to someone else, right?

Actual insane behaviour and moral compass. Very commendable, Atcham.

We have years and years of unaccounted for time, after Lou left him. What was he doing, then? This haunts me!

This all, yet again, makes me question: why did he go to that war on the movie? Boredom? Wanting to beat up Atcham?

I would like to point your attention, that at this time, before Joris, and years after Lou has left him, the house was still in pristine condition.

...He let the house turn into a garbage dump and a hazard, despite having a son. Yet another reason for me to hate Kerubim's parenting.

This reminds me of something very off-topic: a while back, I had an online friend who I introduced to Dofus and Wakfu. I made memes for various new discoveries they made in the series, and that included meme videos.

Which included, after spending weeks saying shit like "yeah there's a bingus ecaflip... he's out there, I love him." and "there's a bombshell about Kerubim's backstory :) I know something you don't." and "he's omitting something MAJOR from his stories. I won't say what ❤" me dropping this video onto them.

This describes perfectly how batshit insane Atcham's first appearance in the franchise is.

Well, it's been about a year since I started showing off my Pony Town cos' so I guess I should show off some more. This time we're delving into my Dragon Ball cos'! There aren't too many of them, but they have a few neat little techniques I used to create them.

First off we have Goku! He was one of the first few DB cos' I did and he has changed quite a bit from when I first made him. I had a hard time figuring out how to do his hair, but the latest update to the selection of manes Pony Town provides helped immensely. Besides the hair, I enjoyed making his shoes. The rest was pretty easy to figure out.

Of course I had to make a super saiyan Goku! ... This is the only transformation I have for him though. Funnily enough, the hair was much easier to do, and it also uses the hat slot to add onto the hair trick. I did struggle a bit with coloring the hair at first, but making the outline lighter than the hair does a great job at making it glow.

Next we have Yamcha! He was rather straightforward to make, and the most notable things to point out are his clothes and, again, shoes. It's mostly just using the outlines to add more detail, but I like how easy it was to do it.

Puar!!!!! Yeah they revamped the customizable plushies that you can equip and Puar was an obvious choice to do as my first plushie cos.

Launch, but I was inspired to make her whilst watching one of the Harmony Gold movie dubs that had popped up on youtube a while back. You'd think she'd be an easy one to do, but I had a hard time deciding which mane to use and uh those pants were absolutely hard to work with. Other than that, it was an easy enough one to do.

I had a fun time making Korin, and this is one of the very few characters that I've had to use the beard options for. I had used one of the skirt options to make him more round as well. Also, you may have noticed that I've made the outlines a gradient. I've pretty much done this for all of my DB cos', but it's a much more notable feature for Korin compared to the others.

I love Raditz, but hot damn he doesn't translate well into Pony Town. Like the legs and tail are easy enough, but his armor and hair were hell. It's mostly the hair, but I had to use a hat, ear ring, and both front and side horn options to make it work. The armor was easier, but it was a puzzle for sure.

Vegeta was the first DB cos I made. He was easy. Uh, I actually used one of the face patterns to extend his widow's peak, and I also used the grass color to hide one of his hair spikes. There's a reason for that.

Yup. I don't have much to add. He has a horn and antlers now.

One of my favourite cos' I've done, and it's Frieza of all people. His head was a joy to figure out. I used the mask option for the lower half of his face so that I could have his facial markings be present, and I used one of the beards to make that white outline. For his head, I used a top hat to create the outline, and there's a horn I used to add to the shading of his forehead. I'm very proud of how he turned out.

The Namekian frog is my favourite DB character, so I, of course, made a cos of the frog. Okay so I once saw a person who made a frog using a method like the one that I used that I have never seen anyone do ever before or since when I saw them. Like I tried looking up a tutorial for this type of frog head and I couldn't find it, so I feel like it was something that that person had figured out for themselves. Like I've seen people do the headphone eyes thing, but never in combination with the mask for a frog. Other than that, a very easy cos to make.

It's bingus time. Beerus' ears are my favourite thing about this cos. It combines the tall side horns and the big pointed ears to make his iconic big ears. It's difficult to see here, but I had used one of the ponytails to make the ear more round just by a few pixels. For his shawl, I used the cape and the neck tie together to make it.

And that's it for the Dragon Ball Pony Town cos' I have. I might make more in the future, but I can't say for sure.

The big reason I could never make a fangan is because I suck at writing, have no work ethic, and don't work well with others, but the other reason is that I'd see a post like "blorbo bingus totally bottoms" and it'd take every bone in my body for me not to go "NO HE DOES NOT! allrighty buckos here is the breakdown of how I measure stuff via zer0 that nobody asked for. This is purely for entertainment purposes so you may witness my insanity, there is probably an easier way to do this. Also warning: I'm german so I use x,y insead of x.y for decimals except for feet and inches stuff because I have to copy that shit from a calculator website because that shit don't make sense to me

Needlessly detailed and probably also overly complicated explanation below the cut.

Example of the day: fl4k

We know that zer0 is cannonically 0,0193 hectometers aka 193cm aka 1,93m aka 6′ 3.9843″ tall from their official bio so let's get a screeny of the bingus and start mathing

each one of these red lines is 1x zer0s head and yes I chopped some off the top because this is halfassed but it is what it is. I put the lines slighty ajar from eachother so you can see where they start and end and from this we can tell that zer0 is around 6,5 heads tall meaining that their head is ~30cm (193/6,5 = 29,69)

Now if we shuffle that over onto fl4k, at fitst glance it might look like they are the same height. also yes I made this image brighter a bit because sanctuary 3 do be kinda dark innit?

but we also need to keep in mind that they have the posture of a middleaged gremlin going through a midlife crisis so, if we want something more accurate we gotta make ourselves a nother ruler, in this case the distance between their chin and the top edge of their optic

and now we can use that measuring stick to scale an image where they actually stand up straight appropriately. I yoinked this one from the official cosplay guide and simply slaced it until the distance between their chin and their optic was matching the green line

and badda bing badda boom they are actually a bit more than 7 zer0-heads tall meaning that they are around 0,0210 ectometers aka 210cm aka 2,10m 6′ 10.67″

ANY WHY WAS I TRYING TO FIGURE ALL OF THIS SHIT OUT???

210 = 100%

2,1 = 1%

80/2,1 = 38,095 -> ~38,1

100/2,1 = 47,619 -> ~47,62

Conclusion: Nug, without antenna, is around 38% of Fl4ks full height and with antenna around 47%

also yes I checked if zer0s height changed in comparison to other characters we know like moxxi or ellie and in comparison to them by taking screenys of fl4k next to them and sclaing them all to match next to a screeny of fl4k and zer0 ant let me tell you, it has not, at least not worth mentioning as minor changes in height are always goin to happen when a character gets a new look and hairdo but I will not lead you through all that shit too because I might aswell start writing a book about zer0 as a measuring unit by that point

LEGO On A Budget 2024 #8: 60428 Space Construction Mech & 31145 Red Dragon

Peak has been acquired. Although we still got 2 more blogs after this, I think nothing will top what you're about to see right here. Just watch.

LEGO City - 60428 Space Construction Mech

Okay first of all, how cool is the space theme? Honestly, every time I go to the Kruidvat and see the more expensive Space sets, like the 4+ Spaceship and Asteroid Discovery one or better yet, the Insterstellar Spaceship, I have to pinch myself to ensure I don't throw away another 18 bucks then and there. This one didn't seem as compelling at first, but that's the budget life, baybee.

This is just the Ninjago set but better. I mean. The fact you got a couple extra small builds instead of merely some minifigs definitely adds to the experience to me. You may miss the cool swords, yet you get compensated plenty with how unique many of the pieces are. In terms of the mech itself, I find them to be fairly even, though considering the Space Construction Mech's more formidable amount of pieces, I am giving the edge to this one. It manages to be a bit more stable to stand upright, and it has the cool little gimmick of being able to move the left hand's fingers more or less freely.

Ninjago felt more unique, yet this was ultimately the more fun set to put together. A 'stellar' finale to LEGO City's pretty stacked budget lineup of early 2024. Haaaa.

LEGO Creator - 31145 Red Dragon

Oo hoo hoo. Hoohohohoo. Hohohoho.

Yeah I love Creator 3in1. Such a novel concept, essentially tripling the value of your purchase by giving ya 3 things to build. Of course, the two builds that aren't the focus are gonna be smaller, but all that matters is what design you prefer. You're still getting your money's worth.

Gonna start off with the smallest and my personal least favorite, the fish. And even THEN, this one is still excellent! It feels rather nice and chunky in the hands, like it's definitely a substantial build. Plus, there's plenty of movable parts too, like, everything you expect to move *does*. Certainly left a solid first impression, and this is the bottom.

The bird is certainly a bit less unique as there's plenty of LEGO birds around I feel, and the idea of it flapping it's wings isn't AS compelling to me. The extremely adorable design more than makes up for it though. Look at it. Lil goofy cartoony bird. I really liked having this as a lil decoration for a couple days while I was busy doing birthday things.

But here comes the bingus. The dragon from the cover. He thwarts all with his imposing (not actually imposing) size. Flexible arms and legs that look better than any other one so far. Flexible tail and wings, too. Hell, you can even open and close his mouth as was shown on the box. Extremely impressive and very cute to boot! The only mild concern is that it doesn't stand upright as easily as some earlier sets. Oh well, at least it ain't one of those Friends minifigs.

Current rankings:

The Space Construction Mech would've been number 2 at worst if it wasn't for the absolute delight that is the Red Dragon and co. It's a very cool set, maybe a touch boring for a Space theme, yet still very flexible and solid, with loads of unique pieces. Well worth adding to your extraterrestial collection.

LEGO Creator is quite handily my favorite theme, though. The value for money is rather extreme. For 9 bucks, you get two slightly smaller builds that look goofy and fun, AND a similarly cutesy dragon that can be messed with however you desire. 100% my favorite build by a long shot, it's not even on the same level as all the others. If there's any budget set to buy, it's this one. Same with most other Creator sets, honestly.
