Have you seen this childhood show: Gullah Gullah Island (1994-1998), United States (English)
Commentary/Context/Memories: I actually saw the cast in concert, but my hyperactive self could not sit still, so I didn’t pay much attention. I feel so bad about it 😭
[Mod A: Awww please don’t feel bad about that! You were (likely) just a kid expressing your excitement in the way you knew best (unless you didn’t really want to go to the show). Concerts can be really hard to sit through as a kid regardless of if you’re interested in them or not! I also regret not really paying much attention to the Jonas Brothers (my first concert in 2008) bc I was not obsessed/had a crush on them the way my friend who took me had (should’ve been a sign I was gay in hindsight haha), even though I now think they had some great bops! Anyways back to the show: love the vibes of this show! I am normally creeped out by mascot costumes, but their friend Binyah Binyah Poliwog seems like a friendly lil frog! This show was a music-based show that aimed to educate kids about Gullah culture, who are an African American cultural community based along the coastline of North/South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and the Sea Islands that has a specific language and prominent arts/music culture because of relative isolation/shared African cultural heritage, the language is also known as Geechee (related to Creole). The show shared songs, art styles, dance, and stories important to the Gullah culture! I would like to learn more about this, because while I did know about Creole, I don’t know much about Gullah culture (so very glad to learn through researching this show!)]

things that happened at today's market
MY BEST FRIENDS FROM HIGH SCHOOL ALL SHOWED UP I wasn't expecting all of them to, but they all did!! they were so supportive and I love them so much :))
someone was walking around with a giant replica of a human spine
I got called a "legend" for recognizing a picture of binyah binyah from the show "gullah gullah island"
a kid with this really cool outfit and his mom came up to my booth; I thought the kid's outfit reminded me of will wood, so I mentioned that, and the mom told the kid, "hey, she knows will wood! you love will wood!" and the kid got really excited and started talking to me about will wood. they left, then came back later to buy some art, and I was like "THANKS WILL WOOD." it was great
I wanted to buy some bone jewelry from another vendor, but they didn't have anything I could buy; just earrings (I don't have pierced ears). however, they did tell me they had a necklace made of their dog's toenail. I did not buy it
I shared a booth with this artist who had this really cute chibi art style, and I mainly sell horror art. we had like a whole miyazaki/junji ito thing goin on
there was someone in an oddly realistic goblin mask
I was somehow not the only one selling prints of the pale man from "pan's labyrinth"
met someone who had a "rocky horror" count, just like I have a "caligari" count (they bought a "rocky" button from me)
was given free pokemon cards, a rainbow flower for pride, and a popsicle
someone saw my ace flag at my booth, then opened their fan, which had an ace flag pattern on it. we were very loud about it
someone desperately wanted to get rid of a rubber duck with a sports team logo on it
my sister traded a crocheted bag for a $30 one piece figurine
I was trading old littlest pet shop figurines, and three people told me that one of the ones I had was "the mom from LPS Popular." I ended up selling it for $5 to my friend lol
met my friend's boyfriend, who also listens to tom waits. we were talking about his albums, and I mentioned that I liked "mule variations." my friend misheard it as "yule variations" and thought tom waits did a christmas album. (can you imagine)
someone infodumped to me about their queer interpretation of "the shadow over innsmouth." it was amazing
