After Cari, my dark tan TD Doll XunYiChao, arrived, I decided to do a small resin comparison of currently available colors for tans and 1 normal pink skin.
Light tan from TD Doll is very very pale, it doesn't show much darker than an slight olive toned normal skin. In comparison, dark tan is really a rich dark color, definitely worth the $60 extra for it (light tan also comes with a $60 up charge for a 1/3+ sized doll).
I also compared the light tan to some other light tan resins that I have at home which are currently available from their respective companies with and without flash:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jointed Hand: TD Doll normal pink 2019 (yellowed)
Spare male hand: DFA light tan 2021
Full arm and hand: TD Doll light tan 2020 (I labeled it wrong)
Foot: Iplehouse peach gold skin 2021
I have a couple of other tans at home, which are discontinued or have been updated as color options, such as:
LoongSoul french brown 2021 (Black Dragon release)
TD Doll tan 2019 (was replaced in 2020 with light and dark tan options)
Dollzone tan 2013
Dream Valley original tan from 2020
Soom bronze from 2012
Fairyland tan 2013
So yeah, just let me know if you want any other colors compared!

It occured to me that i never posted about doll family-h's new tan here beyond posting a finished Ellis. So i will now, in case anybody still doesn't know. They still haven't changed their ordering photos to reflect the new tan which is very rude of them. Basically i ordered a body expecting the old tan because it matches a dyed head almost spot on. But they silently changed their tan and i was very upset. Below is a comparison of the old tan (left) vs the new tan:
Tumblr media
Here is the new tan in different lighting:
Tumblr media
This is basically just a psa for those who are still under the impression that doll family-h has a dark tan. They do not. The new tan is really actually beige. But there is good news! It matches withdoll's beige perfectly:
Tumblr media
All photos are completely unedited. And i received this body in januray 2023. Hope this helps

some resin comparisons (jan 2023)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here they are! the natural light images are truest to life, though the tans look more different in reality. dika doll tan is a smidge yellower (though that may just be age), and fairyland tan is much redder. I had heard that fairyland and unoa tans were close enough to hybrid easily, but they do seem significantly different in person- it would likely work if a unoa head was given a warm/reddish faceup though.
the fairyland tan and normal resins, the alchemic labo unoa paradise and fresh resins, and the dollzone yellow resin have been kept almost completely out of the sunlight (until this picture lol). the other two have been in the sun underneath wigs.
these pictures were taken with my phone (an iPhone 12) in front of a window with indirect sunlight
I hope that these can be of use to someone o/

This gorgeous Telesthesia Doll XunYiChao in dark tan skin is one from my personal collection. I had an absolute blast painting her despite the challenges of working with dark resin (pastels won't show the true color until after sealing). Initially I wasn't going to give her piercings, but she looked so empty without them, so here we are!
Tumblr media
She is just absolutely stunning to me, and I am so glad I sprung for the dark tan. I do have a light tan FeiHuaDeng at home and took some comparison shots of their color differences. I will likely post those to my bjd photography blog (@izasbjdphoto) instead of here.

It's taken me a couple of days to post but my sweet bean Gerard is finally here after a loooong stay at Frankfurt airport! 💜 He's a DollNoize Wrath and belongs to the "Welcome to Weird" part of my Clash universe. He's such an odd size compared to the rest of my crew but I think it's very fitting given his parentage - his father is Isilmë (my other Granado Enoch), an elven prince; and his mother is a dwarven commoner (who is currently MIA). I just adore the tan resin, I think it's comparable to DollShe Copper Oriental? I'll do a resin comparison at some point... Anyway, look how well he folds up! 😍 He's so light, and holds poses very well, and oh my gods the sculpting of his hands and feet is just 🤤 photos of that too, eventually. Anyway, enough of my gushing, it's 1 am and I need sleep! Thank you again so much @dollnoize I just adore him! 💜 #bjd #balljointeddoll #dollnoize #dollnoizewrath #legitbjd https://www.instagram.com/p/CF7JxbDDV8u/?igshid=17mad7k2vkjb5

In case anyone needs it! Here is a resin comparison:
Left: Iplehouse Glow Light Brown, urethane resin, 2017.
Right: Withdoll Brown Tan (UV), environmental resin, 2014.
Remember that Withdoll offers the Brown Tan in urethane version too (the one that does not have UV on the name). The 2014 has been played with but always stored in a box in a dark closet.

Doll number 50 made it a few weeks ago! I've named her Carina, Cari for short, and she's a blacksmith. She's a really fun character as she's an ex-paladin, and she can turn into a giant polar bear.
I need to get some new full body pictures of her painted, as I have some from her box opening.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also compared her dark tan to to the light tan from the same company. I am thrilled with her color and look, I've been wanting a dark tan from TD Doll for a while, and she works perfectly in it!
The what is what:
Sculpt: Telesthesia & Dragon Doll XunYiChao in dark tan
Eyes: SoulinaBox 14mm Small Iris eyes
Outfit: Top and boots from ACBJD, and pants from Dollmore
Wig: CanCan J-Series (a by me resized 8-9)
Faceup: Me over at @izasfaceups

Comparison of various Chinese-made 1/6 scale BJD bodies
I found an interesting video which compares various popular 1/6 scale body options in the Chinese-speaking BJD world.  It’s a pity the uploader only has Chinese-made bodies and a Volks body, it would be interesting to throw some of the Korean bodies in the mix!
If you browse Taobao or Chinese-language BJD sites, you may have noticed the overwhelming popularity of certain sculpts - chiefly Napidoll Carol, but also Miadoll Soo.  They are so pervasive that it seems like almost every BJD collector has one...!  Since Napi and Mia only sell heads, this seems to have led to an interesting phenomenon of purpose-made bodies, specifically to fit these heads, that is, the makers of these bodies don’t seem to sell any original head sculpts of their own.  Besides Rouchang (below - a collaboration between BJD dealer Engodoll/ 银谷屋 and an independent sculptor [source]), other examples are the slim Chaofan (”fried rice”) body and Pettimal (below).
Here’s a summary of what the uploader of the video had to say (she seems to favour taller, slimmer bodies overall):
Rouchang (”sausage”) body - Tall and slim, nice legs, looks good in clothes, poseability is not bad, stands well, many option hands which are well sculpted, but the thigh area is loose? and it doesn’t sit up well, especially with clothes on (a major flaw in her book).  The neck requires a silicon “KIPS” disc for Miadoll heads, else the fit would be too loose.  Many customised colours available (to match Volks, Napi, Miadoll, etc.)  Reasonable price.
Huajing - Cheapest option.  Fleshier than Rouchang, still quite tall.  Resin quality, standing and posing are all not bad.  Six hand options, fewer than Rouchang.  She has heard from long-time owners that it has knee issues - after a while the knee joint tends not to fit well and will easily buckle.  Legs are fat, especially compared to the small feet, so it’s hard to wear stockings.
Spirit Doll - Too expensive. Resin quality is average.  Legs are cute, but they’re too short.  Even with a KIPS disc in the neck, the head she placed (Napi Maron, I believe) on it cannot look up.  The details are good, better than Rouchang and Huajing, but she doesn’t recommend it because it’s relatively expensive.
DF-H - Quite cheap.  Quite chubby, has a nice waist line.  Details are ok.  Long wait time.  Its legs are the fattest of all her dolls, so some shoes cannot fit.  The thing she dislikes the most is the squeaky noise it makes and its plasticky-ness.  I think she said the limbs can be kicky (弹?).
Volks - Very detailed and beautiful.  Short and plump, not slender like Rouchang, yet it looks good (she sounds bemused XD).  Needless to say, the quality is great.  But it’s expensive and harder to get.  And you can’t order custom colours.  (As with DF-H, I think she said the hands and feet are kicky (弹?), but as the owner of three Volks Yo-SD’s I certainly haven’t found that to be the case... >_>)
She also mentioned some bodies she doesn’t have at the moment, including Charm Doll, which she says looks great but has terrible wait times (she has one on order), and Pettimal, which was new to me and certainly does look lovely!  (added to my watch list)  It reminds me a little of the Korean SQ-LAB body, with its shapely Unoa-like knees~
I hope this was interesting and somewhat useful for you! :D  Comparison videos and posts are some of my favourite types of BJD-related content~
Also, as a bonus tidbit, LAKE has a tanned skin Mira with her own original 30cm body in stock on her Taobao!  I was very tempted but I asked and the tanned colour is apparently colour-matched to SOOM iMda instead of SOOM The Gem, so it’s a bit too chocolatey for my taste.  I did snag a normal skin head though. :D An unexpected purchase - I haven’t decided if it will be a boy or a girl yet, or what body I’ll put it on! (thus the research I’ve been doing XD)
EDIT: This link has useful comparison shots of Soom Teenie Gem, Volks Yo-SD, DF-H and Spirit Doll bodies.   And here’s a useful comparison of Volks Yo-SD and SQLAB KSG.

I have information about the artist casts, but also QUESTIONS for you, potential Wol adopters. If you are serious about buying, please take a moment to reply. ::INFO:: The heads are mini or 1/4 scale and seem to work on most mini and mature mini BJD bodies. The resin colors vary, but are loosely matched to Doll Chateau white, Volks normal, and LUTS tan. The actual matching varies, and when the heads are sold I will give resin comparisons and detailed photos of each head. The heads may have air bubbles along the jawline or in the back of the ears that do not affect the face or normally visible areas; the insides of the heads may also have rough or unfinished areas; these are cast under high pressure by an experienced resin enthusiast, but they are not professionally cast. Please manage your expectations and read the individual listings carefully when they are put up for sale. Each head will be between $100-135. They will be for sale in 2-3 weeks. ::QUESTIONS:: A lot of people have expressed interest in these casts and I'm not sure if the best way to list them. Which would be best for you? The options are first-come-first-served-click-quick on Etsy, auction-style on Instagram or Tumblr, silent-auction via email (you send one bid and the highest bidder gets it), or lottery (you enter your name for the ones you might want, I draw a name and that person has the opportunity to buy). In all cases, detailed photos/info/disclosures would be posted ahead of time so you could make an informed decision. What are your thoughts? Etsy shop-drop style would likely be on a weekend afternoon, eastern standard time.
