This series began as a fill for an “Izzy gets kidnapped” prompt on the Our Flag Means Kink meme and grew into…a lot more than that. Part 1 is finished, Part 2 is at 5 chapters so far. That’s over 150,000 cumulative words of our three favorite pirates trying (sometimes successfully) to figure out their feelings, with lots more to come!

softe (but still fucked up) edizzy thoughts

Ed has nightmares about becoming a monster. Izzy can always hear him crying through the wall between their rooms so he just goes and lets himself in and talks quietly to Ed until he falls asleep again, whispering that it's okay, it's all okay. Izzy doesn't care if he becomes the worst monster this world has ever known. He'll follow him all the same, until the very end.

Izzy always flees before dawn, presuming that Ed's still sleeping and doesn't really know he's there/thinks he's talking to someone else - but he's wrong. One morning, Ed asks why he says stuff like that and strokes his hair and is so fucking nice to him when he thinks Ed's unconscious. Izzy panics because he's a ridiculous little man (affectionate) and blurts out that he's only doing it to protect Ed's reputation, because if anyone else on the Queen Anne's crew heard such 'weakness', there might be a mutiny.

Ed is silly enough (also affectionate) to believe him.

Even during the Kraken era, though he probably shouldn't out of self-preservation, Izzy still goes and just sleeps beside the bed in case Ed wakes up in a panic and needs someone to hold his hand. Even if it means Izzy loses a few fingers...

Then, at some point post-S2, Ed is facing off against an enemy twice his size. The enemy's got Izzy boxed in, so Ed steps in to distract him. The only problem is, there's no way for Ed to take this huge guy down non-lethally. He's getting a tiny bit panicked and desperate and trying to come up with a fuckery to get him out of this without violence then -

Then a sword sprouts from his enemy's chest, from behind

Izzy, his bloody right hand, kicks the guy to the floor and nods at Ed. No words are exchanged because none need to be

Ed comes up to Izzy after and helping him wash the blood off. That night, he crawls into bed beside Izzy rather than waiting for him to come to him, and falls asleep immediately in his arms. Because now, his nightmares aren't about becoming a monster and being unloved - he did that, and he's loved anyway. His nightmares are about losing Izzy.

the fact that edward keeps stede and izzy in these two diametrically opposed fields. stede in this romantically rose-colored visage where sure he can be emotionally vulnerable with him but not necessarily truthful, meanwhile with izzy he tells and knows izzy sees everything he does, what things truly are at the depths of it, but bars himself emotionally from him. and the thing is both izzy and stede are keenly aware of it, which I think has done leagues in quelling the animosity between them. they both love a very complicated man who doesn't allow himself to be completely himself around either one of them - he's lost them both, after all, when he tries to breech the middle.

the way that izzy is inexplicably entwined with the blackbonnet sex scene. the way that izzy is singing a love song for a man who will never love him the same way as he does the man he lays with now. he's singing his vulnerability to a man who's not only not listening, who's not present, but whose very happiness is contingent upon all of the sacrifices he's made (deterring Edward from shooting himself on the deck by focusing his mania onto himself thus losing his leg right after confessing his love to him, refusing to shoot him below deck, saving the crew when he nearly ended them all in the storm, keeping his body on board despite their mutiny) but will never likely truly thank or apologize to him for. it's all the same - without izzy, the rose colored bliss of their time together wouldn't be, accompaniment or otherwise.
