Day 17 of #28daysofblackcosplay is Blind Mag from Repo! The Genetic Opera. Yep, we’re revisiting the Opera again. When I first joined a shadow cast I was casted as a GENtern which I loved since I’m a dancer. But in truth, rewatching the movie as many times as I’ve had I at least once wanted to cosplay Blind Mag who grew to be my favorite character. And with the help of my shadow cast ATTK (Addicted to the Knife) it was possible. I got to play her in the show in 2 key scenes: The Geneco party (Mag’s Green dress) and Mag’s finale (Chromggia) getting to play the tragic singer with the bionic eyes was a lot of fun and a conquered goal. Maybe some day I’ll visit Mag again with a costume of my own making. As a Black cosplayer, I’ve long since realized that black cosplayers in the community don’t get there just dues and appreciation for the work they do. We are always called “variants” or “(insert character name) if they were black”. I think it’s time we break that negative stigma and show appreciation for cosplayers of color. The soft piter-patter of rain knocking against the window hummed a gentle beat in The Host’s chest. The queen-sized bed was too empty without his magician next to him. The night was too dark to see anything. Sleep didn’t come to him as he looked the other way of the bed. It’s only been days after...

He turn on his side where Marvin would be sleeping in his soft pillow, and his hand reaches out to grip the cold silky pillowcase. If Marvin was next to him, his hand would’ve touched his fluffy hair and smoothed it, but he clinched the pillowcase instead. If The Host focused hard enough, he could smell Marvin near him, but it’s just empty air in front of him.

He looked back at the door with his missing eyes but he looked back at his pillow. Host held it close to his chest as he remembered Marvin’s lips against his scars that Dark given him and the kisses on his neck, tracing the scar over his Adam’s apple. Host swallowed hard at the thought that he’ll never feel those lips again, nor would he feel safe, warm arms holding someone like Marvin close to his chest again. He won’t feel it because Marvin--

“The Host refuses,” he mumbles against the cold pillow, smelling his sweet perfume. “The Host refuses to believe that his beloved, his sweet beloved with cat eyes and-and gentle voice is gone.” Bloody tears began to fall from his bandages as he the echoes of Marvin’s scream run in his ears. “The Host winces at the noise of his beloved Marvin that-that night and-and--”

He stops suddenly as a broken sob flowed from his lips. He didn’t bother to cover it was he cried in the pillow, clinching the memory of that September night where the cool silk covers were too warm against their skins and the night was too bright between the thunderous rain and howling winds from the window as they opened up to each other like a flower in the sun, blooming just enough for each and every touch given to them.

The Host looked up at the ceiling as he continued to let out broken sobs and cries for Marvin, calling out for him like a broken record. He turns in the bed again and holds the pillow close to his chest, crying gentle in the fabric. He didn’t care if the rest in the manor could hear him. He didn’t want to fight Wilford’s hand touching his shoulder or turned him away when he laid next to him. He didn’t and to yell at Jim 1 to leave his room as he brought him a glass of water. His sobs echoed through his room and in the walls, but he didn’t hear Marvin’s voice in his head.

“Let hopes pass, let dreams pass--let them die. Without you, what are they for?” The Host sung against the pillow. “I always feel no more than halfway real til I hear you sing...” he stops and felt Marvin’s smile against his skin then fading away again. “...once more.”

“It’s more like, I’d only feel bad if I got arrested or something and they had to call my parents. Can you imagine?” Nocome dropped her voice, changing the inflection of her words. “‘Mrs. and Mr. Fiddler? Yes, we’ve arrested your daughter for trespassing on government property.’ Then my parents would be like ‘damn, I knew we shouldn’t have let her watch reruns of ‘The X-Files’.”

Noah never quite seemed fully alive, obviously, but there were times he was energetic enough to come close, and this was one of them--he was giggling far too hard to be mistaken for a ghost, and Masha’s outburst just set him off again.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” he managed at last. It was a good thing he didn’t need to breathe, or he wouldn’t have been able to speak at all. “It’s just--your face!”
