Zukka week 2022
DAY 1: Blue Spirit or Kyoshi Warrior Sokka
AU Where Sokka leaves the Southern Water after the Southern Raiders killed Kya and kidnaped Katara. His father leaves with the other men, and Sokka trains until he decides to rescue her after finding
Then he met the Kyoshi Warriors, a real training from Suki and the girls. He leaves when they decide he was ready to join the Resistance. He follows and had ideas, until in his sixteen birthday had news about waterbenders and a plan to destroy the Northern Water Tribe.
The Leader of the Resistance made a plan: the Kyoshi warrior would go undercover to "protect" the Fire Nation Prince, who could be his chance to save the rest of the world. Sokka joins without Suki's permission, and tries to find what is the mysterious prince hiding.
Until the night he met the Blue Spirit.
From Zuko's side, being a Disgraceful Prince and a spy from the Resistance is not easy if that guard talks about the "guy with blue mask".
Neither of both want the other to get discover. So is better if try to be in their good side, right?
Misunderstandings, meet-cute(?), politics and teenagers in the middle of the war.
Ah, and the Avatar returns.
@zukkaweek
[ID: Background with a wall dark red but with blue tones for the light, in the middle of the night. There are two figures. One is Sokka with Kyoshi warrior uniform, looking the other with surprise meanwhile he is sneaking. Night lights on his face. The other, climbing down from a rope, Zuko in his Blue Spirit disguise, also looking surprise. Both freeze in their places. END ID]

🌹 <3
There’s just one thing--whatever’s going on in the alley seems very much not Dai Li related. At all.
For starters, he’s pretty sure he would have remembered if any of the Dai Li wore a giant, blue, metal mask over their entire face.
for every "🌹" received in my inbox i'll post one random sentence of a random WIP i'm currently writing

What I truly love most about the DC universe is how stupidly large it is. There are so many different Earths and timelines that you can merge it with another pic of media, and you can justify it by saying it's an entirely different timeline. The DCU is so diverse and wide that its compatible with literally everything.
The MCU? Bruce and Tony know each other due to being billionaire playboys with genius intellect and using their skills to become formidable heroes. Thor and Diana know each other, the League of Assassins is aware of Hydra and the Red Room, etc.
Miraculous Ladybug? Diana and Queen Hyppolita (a former ladybug) know all about the Miraculous and Marinette goes to the Justice League for assistance with Hawkmoth. Given the people they've been up against before, Hawkmoth would fit right in. The addition of the miraculous would be very natural to the DCU.
Danny Phantom? A teenaged boy with ghost powers from another realm ends up in Gotham and starts trolling people is something that would definitely happen in Gotham at some point. It was only a matter of time.
I swear the next DCU & Batman crossover fandom is going to be Avatar the Last Airbender or something. With the Justice League adopting these gremlin children. Bruce "I adopt strays every other week" Wayne would see Katara, Aang, Toph, Zuko, Sokka, and Suki and go "Mine." Sokka cracking jokes with Dick, Zuko and Damian getting on each other's nerves, Katara and Alfred bonding over how they have to keep feral children in check, Toph and Jason trying to declare dominance over each other every other second. Aang going around Gotham and following Bruce while he does Batman things, and surprisingly getting along great with Damian over their love for animals (Damian refuses to admit he got excited when Aang allowed him to ride Appa). The spirits in the atla world won't be so far off base in a world where there are aliens, demons, and demigods walking the earth.
Gothamite criminals everywhere would be getting their asses kicked. Soon Gotham has six more vigilantes, four of which have terrifying elemental abilities and the other two can throw hands. Blue Spirit Zuko throwing hands, Painted Lady Katara thrashing people with water and healing innocents, Blind Bandit Toph crushing people into the dirt, Kyoshi Warrior Suki striking fear in the hearts of hundreds, Boomerang Sokka coming up with these crazy but effective plans that give Batman a whiplash, Avatar Aang greasing anyone who hurts his friends.
And the rest of the Justice League are terrified.
Actually you know what?
alta x dc anyone?

The Gaang as MASKS Playbooks
(Because I am nothing if not a creator of niche content when I actually make stuff.)
This is for the Alternate Universe where they’re all superheroes because I love both MASKS and Avatar and I have opinions that I’m going to share. There’s at least two potential playbooks for each character because there’s a lot of possibilities and different playbooks can focus on different aspects of the characters. Plus, more option is always good.
Anyway, without further ado (under the cut because this got long, I have a lot of thoughts on this matter apparently) the Gaang as MASKS playbooks:
Aang
The Legacy - This is the one that makes the most sense to me and the one that I feel most reflects Aang’s core internal conflict in the show. The legacy is all about bearing the weight of previous generations and their accomplishments and actions. Aang is just the latest in a long line of heroes known as The Avatar who can wield all four elements. For the portion of the playbook that’s about interacting with previous members of the legacy, you could either go with him talking with the past lives like we see in the show or, alternatively, the past couple Avatars could still be alive and kicking. Either way, they’re still watching what he’s doing and trying to push him in what they think is the right direction.
The Nova - This one fits a little less but could still work. The Nova playbooks’ about having a huge amount of power that you can’t necessarily control. For the most part in the show, we don’t see Aang worrying about not being able to control his bending, but this playbook would play more into his fear of losing control in the Avatar state and his worries about hurting someone with firebending.
The Outsider - Okay, this one is a bit of a stretch since the playbooks’ weighted in favor of the hero being an alien or from another dimension. But! I feel like you could definitely hack the playbook to accommodate Aang just being from a hundred years in the past as well if you want to play with that aspect of canon Aang. This playbook would definitely lean more into the whole ‘a lot has changed in a hundred years thing. (The Innocent playbook is explicitly from the past, however, it also has a future, supervillain version of yourself running around which, while could be cool for Aang, also deviates a lot from canon
Katara
I’m going to be honest, Katara was the hardest one for me to come up with. None of the MASKS playbooks’ particular flavors of teenage angst really jive with Katara’s drive and passion to help people and make the world better after it hurt her. I’m going to toss out a few options here, but if anyone else has any better ideas here, feel free to add on.
The Legacy - Katara as this playbook would really play into her status as the last Southern Waterbender. It’d take tweaking of the playbook but you could shift it so it’s about this legacy of heroes and more about the legacy of her culture. So it’s less about the outward pressure to uphold the legacy and more about the inward pressure from herself to uphold it.
The Protege - The Protoge playbook has a specific mentor who’s trying to shape the hero into their vision of how a hero should be. Using this playbook, you could definitely really examine her relationship with Pakku or Hama. However, it’d definitely be exploring more of a niche of Katara than her overall character.
The Soldier - Once again, this recommendation is based less on canon and more on stories that would be potentially interesting to tell. The Soldier playbook focuses on the relationship between a hero and the larger organization that they’re a part of (the generic on the game gives is a SHEILD equivalent). I could see Katara being a passionate member of a similar organization (possibly one White Lotus themed since this is the Avatar version of MASKS) and trying to change the world through that. I feel like this is one where Katara’s character could definitely shine, however, it’s definitely a setup that doesn’t have a lot of basis in canon so if you were wanting to play Avatar more straight in MASKS it wouldn’t work as well.
Sokka
The Beacon  - Sokka is a textbook beacon. The beacon is a low-powered hero who’s in the heroing business because it’s fun and exciting and a lot of their angst draws from the fact that they aren’t really sure if they belong in a world of superpowered individuals. Sokka’s got his boomerang, he’s got his sword, and he’s got his tactical mind. All of his friends are like crazy powerful. He’s the Beacon.
The Joined - The joined is a playbook that shares a lot of the material of another playbook; the two characters have a close relationship. Now, I’m not saying that Sokka’s just playing second fiddle to Katara. What I am saying is that it was Katara’s idea to become a superhero in the first place and she dragged him along with her into it. Did Sokka want to be a hero? No, he want to stay home and focus on taking care of his family. He didn’t want to be the Painted Dude or whatever Katara said his hero name should be. But does his sister listen to him? No.
Suki
I, unfortunately, have less to say about Suki. We should’ve gotten more of her in the show, that’s what I’m going to chalk it up to.
The Protege - Okay. I will admit, this one is purely what I think would be cool and isn’t actually based in canon. But imagine: Suki as the protoge of Avatar Kyoshi who’s still alive, still kick ass, and still very opinionated. Can’t you see the glory? The potential?
The Soldier - This playbook would probably reflect her most accurately. She’s a member of the Kyoshi Warriors first and foremost in the show and her interactions with the Gaang are always affected by that. In a superhero setting, I could definitely see her and the other Kyoshi warriors being some sort of superhero squad that works throught the SHEILD equivalent
Toph
The Janus - The Janus is the spiderman playbook. You’ve got a mundane life, you’ve got a secret identity, and you’ve got to balance them. Toph is rich heiress of the Bei Fong family by day, and notorious vigilante The Blind Bandit by night. This is the perfect playbook to explore the dual life Toph led before she straight up joined the game. Her parents are super annoying, her life’s a drag, at least as a hero she can be free and who she really is.
The Delinquent - The Delinquent is, in essence, a rebel. Try and tell me that that’s not Toph ‘Let’s break some rules!’ Bei Fong. I mean, just look at some of those playbook moves: Troublemaker, I don’t care what you think!, Team? What Team?, Mary Contrary. Those are such Toph moves.
Zuko
Okay, Zuko has a lot of possibilities. I’m going to blame it on the sheer amount of angst that boy has packed into him.
The Soldier - Okay. I know that I’m using the soldier a lot (it’s because they’re all child soldiers) but hear me out. This would be Zuko if you wanted to play with him going through his redemption. In this case, the Fire Nation wouldn’t super obviously supervillains. They’d probably be some sort of organization that looks outwardly good but is secretly fishy. Ozai’s at the top and of course Zuko’s loyal to them. They’re the good guys. (They aren’t.) The soldier isn’t specifically about breaking away from your organization but it definitely can be.
The Reformed - This playbook fits post redemption Zuko like a glove. The Reformed playbook is one where you were specifically a supervillain previously. You’ve done villainous things, but now you’re a good guy and it’s complicated. I don’t think I really need to explain why this playbook is Zuko. It just is.
The Janus - This is for all of you Blue Spirit!Zuko needs. Look, his life sucks, his Dad’s a jerk. There’s way too much expected of him. At least he can put on this Blue Spirit mask and go out and do vigilante stuff.
The Scion - I’m going to be honest, I’m not super familiar with this playbook but I feel like I have to mention it because it’s about being the child of a supervillain. So I’m tossing it out there. Other people who actually know about this playbook can talk about whether or not it actually fits Zuko.
Bonus:
Mai - The Beacon. She’s the least enthusiastic Beacon you’ll ever meet, but look at her and tell me that she’s not in this because being a hero is the most interesting thing that’s ever happened to her. Her life was so boring before Ty Lee walked up to her and was like hey, let’s be vigilantes together. She’d never admit it, but she loves being a hero.
Ty Lee - The Star. The Star playbook is all about being flamboyant, showy, a celebrity. Being a hero is what separates her from her sisters and she’s going to milk it up. She’s still non-powered for the first part, only having her martial arts and auras, but she knows how to play it up. She definitely has a huge social media following.
Finally, The Outsider playbook could work for any of the characters if you just want to play it straight as a character from the Avatar universe getting dragged into this alternate world of superheroes.
Feel free to discuss and share any ideas you have!

what is tumblr if not a place to unleash my incoherent crossover ideas that don't really connect with each other?
atla x sk8 crossover where:
the sk8 gang are all from kyoshi island, some of their families (like the nanjos and chinens) having moved there in the earlier years of the war bc kyoshi is neutral ground
langa's dad still dies so his mum moves them to kyoshi island in the recent years (possibly from the nwt bc nanako is from kyoshi? hm)
kojiro is an earthbender; langa, kaoru + shadow are waterbenders; im toying w the idea of miya being an airbender + reki is a nonbender
suki's predecessor let kaoru join the kyoshi warriors bc he was so aggressively anti gender in his teens, and then suki let reki join bc she understood how he might have felt being the only nonbender among his friends
kojiro still owns a restaurant + shadow still works with flowers
reki is kinda like a mini repair man, he fixes and builds stuff and is like sokka in the way that he's always trying to invent new stuff to help out around the village
kaoru is also still a calligrapher and sells his work to earth kingdom nobles
bc miya is an airbender (maybe) they all joke about him being the avatar eventhough he definitely can't bend any of the other elements, and then they hear the news that the real avatar is back and reki spends all day asking miya if he's okay bc "identity theft is no joke-"
they do have an ongoing game of 'dare' where they challenge each other to do stupid and mildly dangerous things and if you fail you have to do something that the challenger suggests but if you succeed in the dare then the challenger has to do something you suggest (so basically the S beefs without the skateboarding)
it's a game that kojiro and kaoru started when they were kids that more people joined in on as they got older, you can challenge anyone to a dare at any time
and then one day suki and some of the other warriors are tying three randoms to the pole in the center of town and woah that's the actual avatar
from here i don't know if (and then how bc appa is only one bison) they join the gaang, or if they kinda follow after suki and stay on the island but then decide to join the fight and leave, only to meet up with the gaang later....
random crossover ideas that don't connect but now live in my brain
cherry as piandao but still w sokka as his student
piandao but w langa as his student
the gaang but they pick up "responsible" adults kojiro and kaoru along the way except kojiro and kaoru's main reaction to the gaangs shenanigans is "nahnah lets see what happens"
toph and miya being friends but refusing to admit it
toph and kojiro being total buds
sokka and reki bonding over being nonbenders w adhd + tourettes and being the oldest siblings
shadow being the one to get along with zuko
aang teaching possible airbender miya airbending bc miya's kinda been making it up as he goes
blue spirit zuko Not expecting a mysterious masked figure known as 'cherry blossom' to also sneak into zhao's base to rescue aang
miya as a freedom fighter that ends up joining the gang
firebender kaoru pulling an uno-reverse on azula's lightning bending
firebender kaoru also being like jeong jeong and refusing to teach aang because there's a process aang you can't just pick and choose the order of the elements
kaoru as jeong jeong bc i think that's hilarious and also on brand

Blue Spirit!Zuko: My hero
Kyoshi Warrior! Sokka: Would you mind giving your hero a name?
Zuko *playing dumb to avoid revealing himself*: Sure, I know lots of names. You don't have one?
Sokka: No, I do! It's Sokka! I just wanted to know yours.
Zuko: Um you can call me blue?
Sokka: That’s not what I meant and you know it
Zuko: *disappears into the rooftops*

traitor. (sokka x f!reader) pt 7
part 1 | part 6 | part 8
A/N: Just one question. Is it homoerotic to roll around in the forest with your enemy? Just asking... for a friend.
And how could Y/N explain her thoughts on it all when she didn’t understand them herself. Even the idea of not trusting Azula explicitly made her feel like a traitor. She wanted to think that everything was Agni’s will; that everything happened for a reason. So she took her feelings and buried them. She buried them so deep that they were never going to see the light of day.
Tumblr media
Y/N didn’t speak about what she saw Azula do.
Ty Lee and Mai recounted fighting the waterbender and her brother and how they had lost, but when they asked what had happened with her and Azula, she just smiled and shook her head. And Azula was too angry about the loss of the Avatar for them to even ask her.
Mai patched her shoulder up. She was the best one for the job; she had the most experience, since knife throwing was a dangerous weapon choice. She peeled away bits of Y/N’s sleeve that were embedded in the wound and cleaned it and applied a special burn cream that made Y/N’s arm go numb. And the best part of it all? She didn’t talk. She didn’t poke at Y/N’s silence and try to weed out the details.
Y/N wouldn’t have known what to say anyways. How do you tell your friend that you think your other friend murdered her Uncle? And how could Y/N explain her thoughts on it all when she didn’t understand them herself. Even the idea of not trusting Azula explicitly made her feel like a traitor. She wanted to think that everything was Agni’s will; that everything happened for a reason. So she took her feelings and buried them. She buried them so deep that they were never going to see the light of day.
That was weeks ago.
And Y/N didn’t feel any better.
In fact she felt worse. Her spirit and excitement for the mission was fading with each passing day as Azula’s will and determination grew. The drill was a brilliant plan. And it had failed. The Avatar and his gang of friends had foiled yet another one of their plans. Y/N was tired. She desperately needed a night of uninterrupted sleep.
She was plagued with nightmares of blue–and red– fire, consuming her, eating her alive. She would wake up sweating, her now healed burn scar itching, reminding her that fire is dangerous and should not be messed with.
After what happened at Ba Sing Se, the girls retreated to the woods just outside of it. They camped and licked their metaphorical wounds and planned for whatever was going to happen next. They didn’t just need a way into the city, they needed a way into the palace.
It was chilly in the woods. The trees around them were tall and blocked most of the sun high above them before it could reach the forest floor. Y/N brought her knees to her chest and stared at Azula, who was pacing back and forth in front of their campfire. She was muttering to herself, obviously irritated by their lack of progress. Azula wasn’t one to sit around idly when she had a mission. She was patient, but not this kind of patient.
“What are we going to do?” She growled. And Y/N realized she was talking to her.
She shrugged. “I still think our best bet is faking being refugees.” She held up a hand to stop Azula from interrupting her. “I know, I know, we need to get to the palace but right now we aren’t even in the city. We can plan something more elaborate while we’re inside the walls.”
“Applying to be a refugee requires that we have papers, passports. We don’t have that kind of time to fake it. I need to show my father I’ve done something.” The fire next to her grew ten times it’s normal size from her frustration.
“I don’t think we’ll need to!” Ty Lee danced her way up to their campsite, Mai walking slowly behind her.
“While we were out scouting, we found this.” Mai held up a familiar looking white tuft of fur.
Azula grabbed it greedily. “So the Avatar has left Ba Sing Se. I wonder why…” she murmured. “Come on, girls. Let’s go find out.”
---
“These woods are vast. We need to split up to cover all the ground before they get away again.” Azula pointed each girl in a different direction and they each galloped into the trees on their lizard-hounds.
Y/N would never get used to the movement of a lizard hound and the moment she found something that looked like a track she jumped to the ground, happy to be off it. She inspected the dirt and noticed there was more than one disturbance leading off to the left near a patch of bushes and trees.
Y/N drew her sword as quietly as she could and listened for any sound or movement ahead. She peeked behind a pair of trees, but all she could hear was the swishing of the leaves in the wind and the croaking of a badgerfrog.
Y/N was just about to turn around and backtrack to see if she missed something when she was wacked in the face with a metal shield.
She fell backwards on the forest floor, rocks and sticks digging into her spine. She groaned and rolled to her feet just in time to deflect a blow from the girls metal fan.
In front of Y/N stood a Kyoshi warrior.
Y/N extended her sword completely, keeping the other girl at a distance. She was going to have to get really close to fight with her fans and Y/N didn’t want to toy with their razor sharp edges.
The first time Y/N had heard of the Kyoshi warriors, she wanted to be one. She begged and begged her mother to take her to Kyoshi Island to train with them. Even when her mother told her she couldn’t because they were part of the Earth Kingdom and Y/N was Fire Nation, that dream didn’t fade. Even now, Y/N couldn’t definitively say she didn’t want to be one, but she doubted they would take her now.
The one in front of her was glaring at her, Y/N could tell through the greasepaint. Y/N’s head was pounding from her earlier fall. She knew that the Kyoshi warriors were friends of the Avatar. That had to be why they were out here in the woods.
“Where is he? Where’s the Avatar?”
The warrior frowned. “Not here.” She tested Y/N’s reflexes faking an attack to the right and coming at her left.
“I don’t believe you,” Y/N kept her at a distance. She noticed the girl had a katana at her side and wondered why she hadn’t pulled it yet. “We found fur from his sky bison. We know he was here.”
The warriors eyes widened a fraction of an inch. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She had seen Y/N look at her sword sheathed at her waist. She folded a fan and drew her katana but just brushed the edge of it against Y/N’s raised sword. It seemed like she wanted a fight just about as much as Y/N did.
Y/N felt a stab of...something deep in her gut as she looked at their crossed swords. She couldn’t put a word to it; it was more than sadness, more than remorse, more than fear. It was that sinking feeling you get when someone you love walks in the room and says I have to tell you something. It completely took her breath away. And Y/N suddenly realized this wasn’t just some girl dressed up as one of her heroes in front of her. This was a person, someone who was supposed to be an enemy and Y/N just didn’t want that. She didn’t want any of this. She was tired of seeing enemies around every corner. She wanted to be able to dream about being a Kyoshi warrior, not fight one. And that nagging question that never seemed to stray far from her mind came back hard–why was she fighting at all?
Y/N didn’t know what to do; she half-wanted to curl up into a ball and just let the girl carve her up with her fans because anything would feel better than the crushing weight of the realization that everything, everything, everything was so messed up–but she wouldn’t because Kyoshi warriors were noble; no, that something that Y/N does, has done and will do. The other half of her wanted to fight until there was nothing left. But she was pretty sure they both came from the same place.
Both of them were surprised when Y/N’s sword slipped out of her hand and fell into the dirt. Sometimes your muscles make the decision for you when your brain is too slow to think and she wasn’t going to let Azula punish these girls for losing the Avatar.
Y/N was fueled by pure panic as she pushed the girls still blade away with her hand and shoved her up against a tree. The warrior’s hands were trapped between their chests still clutching her katana. She struggled a bit, “What are you–get off!”
“Shhh, shush, shut up!” Y/N pressed her hand over the girl’s mouth smearing greasepaint everywhere. She looked around wildly to see if anyone had come running during their scuffle.
When she turned back to face her, Y/N realized how close they were. Their noses brushed and Y/N’s eyes widened. She backed off a little but all she could smell was the sweet-resin scent of the warriors painted face. Y/N could feel her cheeks heat up because of their proximity where she could see that, yes, the Kyoshi warrior was really pretty even under all the greasepaint, but also because it felt like her heart was pounding out of her chest and the back of the girls hand was pressed up against it and surely she could feeling it thumping against her ribs–
And then Y/N saw her face soften, just a bit, as the warrior searched her face trying to find an answer as to why they were currently pressed against a tree in the middle of the woods. Her gaze settled on Y/N’s lips. “What are you doing?”
Y/N didn’t really know how to answer her. She didn’t know what she was doing all she knew is that–
“I’m afraid for you.” Y/N stared into her brown eyes.
The warrior cocked her head, she had a ghost of a smile on her lips like the thought of someone being worried about her was funny until she took in Y/N’s fire nation clothes, and the sword still lying on the ground behind them and the fact that she was looking for the Avatar. The warrior shoved Y/N back as far as she could with a bewildered look on her face. Y/N tripped over a tree root and fell.
“You’re one of those crazy girls who are trying to kill Aang!”
“No, no!” Y/N stopped. “Wait, who is Aang? We’re not trying to kill anyone!”
“But your friend is and you’re just as bad as her!” The warrior stabbed downward at Y/N but only hit dirt as she had already rolled out of the way and to her feet.
Y/N didn’t make a move for her sword. She didn’t want the warrior thinking she was trying to fight so she held her hands out, hoping the girl would trust her. “I’m trying to warn you! You need to find the other Kyoshi warriors and get out of here!”
“Why?!”
“I don’t know!” Y/N wanted to cry. This was so frustrating.
“Sure, you try to kill my friends and now you just so happen to want to help me?”
“No, that’s not it at all!” Y/N didn’t know how she was going to get the girl to listen to her. She ducked and the katana whipped over her head. Y/N dove for her sword.
But the girl was on top of her before she could reach it, pressing her to the ground.
Y/N grabbed the girl’s face smearing more greasepaint and pushed her away, rolling on top of her and trying to snatch the blade from her hands. Somebody was going to get hurt with that. She kneed Y/N in the stomach and rolled back on top of her, sitting on her stomach. The warrior’s headband had fallen off and her short, auburn hair tumbled into her face.
Y/N grabbed the girl’s hand which was guiding the blade toward her neck and pushed back with all her might, trying to save herself a few more seconds.
“No, you don’t want to kill my friends or no, you don’t want to help me?” The Kyoshi warrior pressed her full weight onto the blade and Y/N could feel it kiss her neck, drawing blood that dripped into the hollow of her collarbone.
“I don’t want to kill them,” Y/N whispered. “I never wanted to.” Y/N kicked her right leg up and used it to push the girl off her. She ripped the sword from the warriors hands and threw it. Y/N straddled her and held her arms down. “If you would–”
A snap of a stick caught both their attention.
“I see you found their leader,” Azula mused from the tree line.
Y/N froze. A million thoughts entered her head and then immediately exited. Azula can’t know Y/N tried to help her. “Yes I did.”
Azula took in the blood on Y/N’s neck, their ruffled hair and smeared greasepaint and raised her eyebrows. She tossed a length of rope.
“Tie her hands. We have the rest over there.” She nodded her head back the way she came. She glared at the Kyoshi warrior on the ground. “And if you try to run...” Azula held up her hand and created a ball of blue fire.
---
They had to hike a quarter of a mile. Down a small hill, and in a valley were the rest of the Kyoshi warriors. Their hands were bound and they were all tied to trees. There were only about seven of them.
Y/N tied their leader to a thick gingko tree and dropped her katana and fans in a pile Mai, Ty Lee and Azula had made.
Azula motioned to Ty Lee and Mai who were already dressed in Kyoshi warrior uniforms and painting one another’s faces. “This is how we’re not only going to get into the city, but straight into the palace. All we have to do is tell them we’re there to protect the Earth King.” Azula smirked.
“That’s… actually a great plan.”
Azula elbowed Y/N. “I always have great plans.” She turned around to the warriors. All of them gave Y/N a death glare. “Now which one do you think is as tall as you?”
The dress was a hair too short, but that didn’t bother Y/N. She took a moment to look around at her friends and realized just how good of a plan this was. They had been friends for years and she barely recognized them in their red and white greasepaint.
Azula approached Y/N as they were loading the extra katanas and fans on their lizard hounds; in her hands she held the golden headband of the Kyoshi warrior’s leader.
“You get this for the capture of their fearless leader.” The corner of Azula’s mouth turned up in a half-smile. She was saying it like it was a joke, but Y/N knew the truth. That girl had almost beat her out there. The cut on her neck still stung. Y/N felt the weight of her guilt fall on her shoulders like a lead blanket as she let Azula place the headband on her head and tie it in the back. What was Y/N supposed to do now? How could she be thinking of betrayal when Azula was rewarding her? She felt proud and disgusted with herself at the same time. She’d promised this girl–okay so maybe she didn’t promise her, but she had told her that she was going to help her and now she was wearing her headband like it was a trophy!
She looked at Azula and didn’t see that monster that she had imagined her to be the last few weeks. Y/N saw a girl that was ambitious and powerful and that wasn’t a bad thing. Y/N had always wanted what was best for Azula, so why was she so willing to sabotage all of it? She was torn in two, and she’d never had that happened before. She had never had to decide between herself or Azula.
“Do me a favor.” Y/N was snapped out of her thoughts by Azula’s voice.
“Anything,” she lied.
“Go check all of their ropes. Make sure they’re tied up tight.”
“Sure, but why?”
“I sent a messenger hawk to a nearby General. He and his troops are going to come here and take these captives to a Fire Nation prison.”
Y/N did what Azula asked. She checked everyone, and tightened the ropes that she thought were tied just a little too loose. An idea came to her last minute, and she didn’t realize she was going through with it until it was already done.
“What’s your name?” Y/N asked the Kyoshi warrior’s leader as she redid the knot tying her to the tree. She took her time looping it through, waiting for an answer, but the girl stayed silent and turned away. She moved on to the warrior’s hands. She made sure her back was to Azula and the girls as she spoke.
“My name is Y/N and I’m loosening the rope on your hands. When we leave, take your warriors and get out of these woods. The Fire Nation army will come here looking for you. Don’t give them a reason to catch you.” Y/N slowly slid one of the fans out of her waistband and under the kneecap of the warriors outstretched leg.
She looked into the girls brown eyes for the last time and gave her the slightest nod. Their faces were reflections of one another from before; this time it was Y/N in the facepaint and the girl with a nearly bare face. It felt cathartic, hiding her real identity; pretending she was someone else. It made betrayal so much easier, because she wasn’t Y/N, she was just another Kyoshi warrior. And they did good things.
“It’s Suki,” the girl whispered back.
---
Y/N knew she was going to have to face the wrath of Azula one day. It was constantly on her mind. Azula would find out somehow, she always did. For now, all Y/N had to do was keep her mouth shut, a smile on her lips and her guilt for what she did, hidden deep within her chest. It was easy, she’d already been doing that.
Y/N didn’t think of anymore ‘ifs’ after that. If she would betray Azula, if she could leave Azula, if she would hurt Azula. Everything became a when. And that was the scariest part, because Y/N didn’t push that thought away like she had all the others. She accepted it, she took it and held it close.
---
A/N: I sat a stared at this part until my eyes watered. What is Y/N going to do now? There’s just, so much conflict in Y/N heart. I treasure her so much, and all I want to do it treat her emotions as real as all of ours. She loves Azula, there is no doubt and it’s heartbreaking to finally peel back the layers of affection and friendship to see the rotten person inside.
