Thinking about you fell first, Ghost fell harder.
Ghost just never expected you to be so okay with his boundaries, and he never realized how having his boundaries respected, could feel so validating until the two of you started dating. Simon realized just how in deep he was when you came up to him one day and asked to speak to him in private. He was terrified, his initial thought was ‘Oh fuck they’re breaking up with me.’ So when you told him you wanted to be in private so you could get a hug and kiss because you’ve been having a bad day- he was so relieved and overjoyed in his own way. You want his comfort? And you were mindful of his discomfort with PDA, even amongst your closest friends? He’s never looked at you so tenderly, and he has never so willingly told you how much he loved you. Would call off the rest of his day just to cuddle you if you wanted him to.

lavender haze (k.b.)
Summary: when the reader is injured and kaz kills someone for them (oops), they come to a realization of their feelings.
Pairing(s): kaz brekker and reader Word Count: ~1.8k Warnings: mild violence (stabbing, mentions of gunshots, physical fighting), blood, mentions of death Genre: a bit of angst, but with a fluffy ending
Author's Note: this is part of the midnights saga (inspired by taylor swift's midnights ofc) but can be read as a oneshot or as part of the series once i've written more :)) send me requests for kaz if you so desire. only 54 days until season two of sab releases let's goooooo
“This was not the plan,” you shouted to Jesper, dodging a fist hurtling toward your face. Your muscles burned with exertion, and your skin ached with bruises from being shoved down the stairs by the targets who somehow knew you were coming. It wasn't your most graceful moment, getting pushed down hard, splintered wooden stairs. You landed at a guard's feet, to boot. An excellent start to what seemed like such an easy heist: get in, grab the rolled-up canvases of forged paintings and get out and back to the Slat before anyone could notice anything amiss.
"I think I know that," he snapped back, ripping his pistol from its holster and using it to bash his attacker in the head. The guard groaned and slumped to the wooden floor, dazed. Jesper took the chance to aim his pistol at the man trying to lock you in a chokehold. "Can you get him to stop moving?"
"I'm going to kill you if you shoot me," you snarled, bringing your knee to the man's gut and bashing his temple with your pistol. He crumpled, and you kicked the man's chest once he was on the ground. It seemed fair after shoving you down the stairs and possibly breaking your ribs. It ached horribly to breathe, and your wrist throbbed when you flexed it. Sprained, no doubt. There was no time to worry about that because another idiotic guard thundered down the stairs right toward you with two lackeys behind him.
Where were Inej, Kaz, and Nina?
You pulled the trigger on your pistol, taking a nonlethal shot at the first guard's thigh, sending him tumbling down the stairs with a shriek. See? That's how it feels, asshole.
Jesper handled the second one, and you went for the third, going for the arm this time. He howled in pain and clutched his arm, nearly tripping over his feet.
"Where's-?" you began, then your hair prickled on the back of your neck. Spinning around, you were greeted with a bash to the face. You collapsed to the ground, and your head hit the floor with an impact that rattled your teeth. You gasped for air, and black spots danced across your vision. The world spun too fast on its axis. Nothing was in focus. Distantly, Jesper shouted. You thought he was fighting the man who hit you.
Pain blossomed between your ribs, and you screamed. The world snapped sharply back into focus long enough to glimpse your attacker's face, concealed by a black scarf wrapped tightly around his head. His eyes were black as coal and filled with pure rage as he stabbed you, twisting the blade to inflict as much damage as possible.
You sobbed as he pulled the dagger free. Something sharp and metallic was bubbling in your throat, threatening to choke you. It bubbled out of your lips, painting them red and sliding down your cheek. The world around you disappeared, and you floated on nothing.
People talked, there was shouting, then more burning on your chest. Someone apologizing. A hand pressed between your ribs over your wound.
"No more," you thought you said. "Please."
You were dying. You could recognize that much.
As the chains of death fastened themselves around your wrists, cold metal biting your feverish skin, you thought of Kaz. His piercing blue eyes, how his coat looked against his pale skin, the way he brushed his fingers through his hair as he concocted heists. How he said your name so softly that you wondered if he felt the same way you did about him. Fluttery, light, hoping to give him a smile and have him smile back. All you wanted was a smile from Kaz, even if he didn't feel that same fluttering as your eyes caught.
Now you wouldn't even get that.
The world disappeared.
And then it came back.
You woke with dry lips and a pounding head. Your throat burned from a lack of water, and everything around you was blurry from unconsciousness.
You looked around at your room in the Slat. How did I get here? Shouldn't I be greeting the Saints now, not feeling like shit with water leaking from the roof onto my head?
Someone leaned forward in a creaky chair beside you, and you saw his cane before you saw him. He was sitting in a chair haphazardly shoved in the corner. It hadn't been there before you'd died, nor had Kaz. He'd never even been in your room before.
"Hi," you rasped. Internally, you winced. Hi? That's the best you could say? You died while thinking of him, and you can only muster 'hi?' Maybe you could be stabbed again and start this over.
Kaz looked you over, his face carefully arranged into a mask of neutrality. But his hair was greasy and falling into his eyes, and he had dark shadows under his eyes that made him look like he'd been punched in the face. "How are you feeling?" His voice was almost just as blank as his face. But underneath his words was.. concern. He was worried. About you.
Where the hell had you gone after you died? In what world did Kaz Brekker, Dirtyhands, the Bastard of the Barrel, show any emotion?
"Am I dead?" you asked him. You experimentally tried to sit up, but your chest screamed at you in pain, and Kaz's cane shot out. The tip pressed against the wall beside your bed, and you were blocked from getting up.
Kaz was silent for a moment. Finally, he said, "What were you thinking? Why did you try to take all of them at once?"
"Jesper and I had it handled." Your throat throbbed, and Kaz seemed to realize that speaking was difficult. He held out a glass of water, and you lifted your head. Carefully, he tipped some of the liquid down your throat. You swallowed and sighed in relief.
"You nearly died," Kaz said. He placed the glass of water on the ground and stood, removing the cane from where it blocked you and thumping it against the floorboards. "It was reckless." His voice was lined with anger.
Anger sparked in your chest. "I woke up after being out for?"
"Three days," Kaz gritted out, whirling to face you. His eyes were ablaze, and you nearly shrunk under that look. It was so unlike him, usually so cold and stoic, that having that emotion directed at you was startling. But you didn't back down and forced yourself into a sitting position despite the searing pain and stiff bandages around your chest.
"Three days, and the first thing you do is decide to yell at me? I'm sorry I almost died, but I would appreciate it if you could wait to lecture me until I'm not about to keel over from pain."
His jaw flexed. He was furious. Much more than you realized. His eyes closed, and his chest expanded and contracted as he took a deep breath. "You nearly died," he said again. His voice was calmer now, and you found yourself softening. "When Inej and I found you nearly bleeding out while Jesper tried to stem the blood, I wanted to kill the person who did this to you." He inhaled again and turned his back to you.
He was silent for a few long moments. "Kaz?" you whispered. He was within your reach but felt so far away. Especially since he didn't like to be touched, and you didn't dare push that boundary to get his attention.
"I did," he admitted. "While Nina worked on you, Jesper and I followed him, and I killed him."
You didn't prompt him to continue this time. He so rarely shared his thoughts. You didn't want to ruin this.
"Killing him didn't keep you from nearly dying," he said quietly. "Your heart stopped. I thought I'd never..." The words died in his throat.
Your hand twitched with the urge to reach out to him. He was trying to say what he felt, but Kaz Brekker wasn't good with emotions. He hadn't been since he nearly drowned in the harbor.
"You said my name while you slept," he said roughly. He turned back to face her, his blue eyes on fire with something you struggled to identify immediately. Later, you recognized it as desperation.
He needed you to say it. He worked so hard to keep all his emotions beneath the surface that they refused to come to him when he called. He felt them all, burning beneath his skin, pleading to be shared, only to disappear when summoned.
You didn't struggle as intensely. "I thought of you when I was dying," you breathed. The words were quiet, shy. Almost ashamed that you hadn't thought of someone else, like your best friend from home. "I thought of you smiling."
Kaz nearly laughed out of sheer amazement. "You've never seen me smile."
Your cheeks flushed, and you looked down at your hands. "But I want to. And I thought I would die without seeing it at least once."
The room was so silent your ears almost started ringing. Then the floorboards creaked, and Kaz sat in the chair beside your bed again. You exhaled slowly, relieved that he didn't open the door and disappear. It was the worst-case scenario that had haunted your dreams. But he hadn't, and he was back beside you again. It was closer than you'd ever expected to be to him.
"Don't die on me again, and maybe you will see it," he said. He rested his cane against the wall and stretched out his legs. Behind his words was relief. You understood what he was trying to say and felt the same, and you were alive. He had the chance to say this to you. For the first time in a long time, Kaz found himself nearly thanking the Saints.
Your heart leaped into your throat as you looked over and met his eyes. A silent understanding passed between you, and his lip quirked up in the corners, ever-so-slightly. You smiled back and looked down at your hands.
You were on the precipice of something new. It was something you'd wanted for so long that you couldn't believe this was real.
"I'm still going to lecture you for almost dying," Kaz said, breaking the silence. He looked at you seriously, but a glimmer of something danced in his eyes. Despite the threat, you couldn't help but wheeze a quiet laugh.
"I expect nothing less, Boss."

exposure therapy
show!kaz brekker x gn!reader
cws: kaz's trauma but not explicit details, spicy making out (?)
Tumblr media
"are you sure you want to do this?" you ask gently, your hands pressed against kaz's clothed chest. he was avoiding your gaze, breathing deeply, as if preparing for something unbearable. his dark eyes met yours, and he softened.
"yes, i'm sure."
you and kaz brekker's relationship was, for lack of a better term, complicated. trying to be intimate or romantic with someone who despised physical touch was difficult, but you truly loved kaz, and so was willing to put up with it in the short term. but kaz could see it bothered you, and had to admit even to himself that he craved your touch, so you both decided that the best way for him to get over it was to just do it in a safe environment until it felt okay for him.
you were sat on his lap behind his desk, your legs straddling his waist. kaz shakily removed his gloves, and tossed them aside. he looked raw, vulnerable, like an open wound.
"you ready?" you whispered, lifting your shirt up slightly to reveal the skin of your waist and hips. kaz stared hungrily for a few moments, before tentatively placing his fingertips on your skin. slowly, he added more, until his cool palms were pressed against you. he was breathing in a controlled manor, but you could tell it took effort. he moved his hands around smoothly, taking you in fully.
"y/n, i..." he began, his mouth dry. you wondered for a moment if he was going to back out.
"yes?" you asked.
he looked up at you again, a hunger in his eyes you'd not yet seen. "kiss me."
you blinked. you'd never kissed kaz brekker before. you'd wanted to, but he'd never condoned it. you supposed the exposure therapy was working.
you reached your hand up onto his cheek, and he leaned into your palm, his eyes fluttering close. you kissed him gently, your lips warm against his cold skin. he didn't kiss back at first, but slowly his mouth opened, and he took you in. his hands gripped your hips, pulling you further onto him. when you pulled away, you were blushing furiously.
"that's...that's enough, for today." kaz panted, removing his hands from your skin.
"o-okay." you replied drowsily. you lifted yourself from him and turned away, too flustered to face him. you heard him stand and reapply his gloves, before hearing the cane's tap on the floor, and the office door shutting behind you.

Fixing a Broken Wing. Kaz Brekker x GN!reader
Word count: 1419 Warnings: Minor injury description. A/N: Thought I'd start posting here as well as Ao3! Hope y'all like it. We need more gn fics. No pronouns or y/n are used for the reader! There aren't many physical descriptions either!
The frigid air was harsh on the looming city of Ketterdam. Nightfall broke on the horizon, and the tapping of a cane echoed from an open window. The usual ruckus of the Barrel was dimmed by the racing thoughts of a singular slimy bastard: Kaz Brekker.
You were an investment of his–A sly one from the Menagerie. Your silent nature and singing blades kept you labeled as an honorary Crow. You were sent on a venture for Heleen, but you were supposed to meet back with Kaz at dawn. Since dawn, Kaz had waited.
And waited.
And waited.
An unfamiliar prickle ghosted the back of Kaz's neck as hours flew by without a whisper of you. You were never late–not for him. The corner of his lip curled into a humorless smirk. Was he so blind to have faith in Heleen to consider keeping you safe?
With impeccable timing, a soft thump came from inside his bedroom. The thumping was followed by a low croak; Kaz could've sworn you were just a large toad. You harnessed the rest of your strength to push yourself up, just enough to slump against the wall.
Kaz paced towards the bedroom, his familiar hobbled steps echoing on the wooden floors. "You're late. You better have a damned good reason for falling behind. I'd like my investments close at hand," His familiar rasp grumbled. As he approached the room, he let his eyes fixate on you. His eyes were like flint as he observed your physical state, his gaze flickering over all of your wounds with expert precision. Your tale had been a messy one, it seemed.
Silently, Kaz stalked toward you, kneeling to your level. He pressed the silver crow's skull of his cane to your chin, tilting your head lightly, cataloging each wound with a veteran's eye. Slashes, bruises, wounds - all painted a sordid story across your flesh. "Heleen?" He asked, nearly deadly silent.
You parted your cracked, bloodied lips to speak, but nothing came out. Your throat was rough and raw. You simply nodded, swallowing thickly as your eyes threatened to close. Luckily, Kaz's cane supported your chin. If your head began to lull, he would use it to angle it back up.
Kaz scowled. No one would hurt one of his own. He always made sure of it. "You survived. That's all that matters." Reaching into an inner pocket, he plucked a small vial from it. He held it to your cracked lips, his voice leaving no room for denial. "Drink. It will help your throat." And perhaps loosen your tongue enough for you to share more. Heleen could wait; his prized weapon came first.
You took in a shaky breath, parting your lips and tilting your head up. You drank the amber-tinted liquid, your face contorting into disgust as it hit your tongue. "Saints, boss, what the hell is that?" You groan, still holding the liquid in your mouth.
A ghost of amusement flickered in Kaz's eyes to see your disgusted reaction, fleeting as quickly as it came. "Effective medicine tastes of punishment," Kaz replied flatly in his salt-bitten rasp. "Consider it penance for troubling me with putting you back together. Now swallow." He uncorked a waterskin from his belt to wash away the bitter taste of ginger and cloves. He held it to your lips, tilting your chin up with his cane. His cold gaze studied your face with keen precision, filing each of your hurts.
Your heart pangs with guilt at Kaz's words. You swallowed the liquid begrudgingly. It stung your throat momentarily before a cooling sensation washed over the tender flesh. You made fleeting eye contact with him, and you swear you felt your stomach twist. "I went to meet with a client near the harbor... I think the old witch wanted to be rid of me," You hissed through bloodied teeth. "I should've known it was trouble. I could hear the rustling of Kruge." You met Kaz's eye again, and as he took a sharp breath in to speak, you blurt out: "Please don't send me back."
He listened to your story in chilling silence. Heleen was a traitorous worm in Kaz’s eyes. Ice ran through his veins as you murmured your broken tale, freezing over some long-forgotten well of mercy. When you finished, he opened his mouth to speak but froze when you interrupted him with a shaky plea. "You won't be," He whispered. The ghost of the broken boy gazed out at you through Kaz's eyes, understanding the unspoken between you two. "I wouldn't send you back if my life depended on it."
Kaz rose in one fluid motion, looming over you like the vengeful raven his reputation had painted. His cane slipped from beneath your chin, causing your head to drop slightly. He stalked over to the small sink across the room and filled a ceramic bowl with water. Gloved hands darted around, grabbing various rags and containers. He moved back to you slowly and silently, gingerly placing the items on the floor beside you. Then, he slipped off his coat and neatly laid it down on the railing of his bed frame. He knelt once more, quick hands soaking the rag.
The silence between the two of you was deafening. Kaz’s slow, shaking breaths would slice through it occasionally, putting your mind at ease. He wrung out the excess water from the cloth and, with a trembling hand, he pressed it to a wound on your forehead. His care for your well-being seemed to trump his fears about getting too close to you. You grunt quietly as he cleans your injuries, but he makes no attempt to be any gentler.
He put the cloth back in the water and rinsed out the crimson substance that’d once coated it. You couldn’t help but notice his encased fingertips never broke the water’s surface in the bowl – A trick he must’ve learned all these years. His dark hair fell over his forehead as he angled his head down to clean off the rag.
He drew a handkerchief from his vest pocket and lifted a small earthenware jar from the floor. In a swift motion, he unscrewed the top and set it on the ground before dipping the cloth into the contents – a soothing salve developed from hard-won experience to ease battered flesh. With a sharp breath, he leaned a bit closer, smearing the substance into your wound.
It stung … and stunk. Your nose scrunches as the scent burns your nostrils. “What is it with you and foul medicine?” You manage to grumble before he silences you with an icy glare through his eyelashes.
“Would you rather be infected?” Replied Kaz, arching an eyebrow at you.
“No.” You stare back at him.
“Figured,” He whispered, the corner of his lip tugging into what most would consider a lesser frown, and to you, a smile. “You’re no use to me damaged.”
Kaz’s hands soon lowered as he finished coating your wounds in the substance. He leaned back immediately and scanned over your face once more. He took in a slow breath before he stood once more. “I will leave these with you to work on any other areas my eyes can’t touch,” He murmured. “I will leave you the room.”
Your eyes follow his form as he stands and runs a hand through his hair. His dark eyes flicker over you with a softer expression now—something underlying. “Very well,” You murmur.
As he turns to exit the room, he pauses and calls your name.
You turn to meet his gaze once more. “Yes?”
“The Crows will carry your name as they do mine,” He rasped. “No force in this world will send you back against your will. You have my word.”
You felt your stomach twist at his words. Your chest was swelling with warmth, or perhaps you were bleeding internally. Your wall was breaking. It was dangerous.
“Thank you, Kaz.” His name rolled off your tongue so easily like honey dripping onto warm bread. You rarely used Kaz’s name – You always opted for ‘boss’ or ‘Brekker.’ At this moment, however, Kaz deserved to be Kaz.
Kaz’s upper lip twitched slightly as you spoke his name. He felt his breath catch in his throat, hearing the way it so easily slipped from your mouth. He tightened his hand around the silver crow handle of his cane. “Rest,” He murmured before he made his swift exit, leaving you alone in the warm lamplight of his bedroom.

Chapter 24 (Show Me Your Moves!)
AO3 STORY
Tumblr media
Chapter 24 : Nasty Plot
Nasty Plot is a non-damaging Dark-type move that raises the user's Special Attack stat by two stages.
It had been a few days since Spider Queen’s attack, and you still had her helmet with you.
It was probably a bad idea, taking her helmet this way, but you had a plan. A plan that certainly no one can know, except you, obviously.
You were going to save the Spider Queen.
It was a big change to canon, and you know it would screw everything over, but you were going to do it anyway. Mainly to make sure that the Lady Bone Demon could be easier to defeat, and her mech wouldn’t be fully finished.
You know that keeping the helmet puts you in potential danger, especially if Spider Queen counts this helmet as her crown.
You heard a knock on your door and you immediately hid the helmet under your bed before answering it. It was MK and Mei, joined with Sandy, each holding a bag full of things from face masks to food.
You had all made plans to have a relaxation day again, after what happened, you definitely deserved it.
“Let’s get this party started!” Mei cheered excitedly as she began pulling out all the face masks. Sandy took MK’s bag and put the food and tea in the kitchen before joining you all on the floor.
It was like a little girl’s sleepover, full of self-care, face masks, watching shows, gossiping, and of course…
“Mei, we’re not sacrificing Red Son to appease the Brickit gods…” You deadpan at Mei, who’s gremlin grin shifted to a pout.
“Why not?”
“Because that’s inhumane?” I responded.
Mei huffed. ‘Well, he's not human!”
“Still, the same thing applies.”
I gently put the mask on my face before laying down on the floor. MK had continued watching the Monkey King: Animated series we watched last time, aa Mei still pouted and Sandy properly brewed us all some tea to share.
“No noodles?” You ask curiously.
Sandy shook his head. “We didn’t bring noodles, we were just hoping to order some of Pigsy’s.”
You cheer excitedly, making Sandy laugh as Mei started up a timer on her phone and we all watched the show with MK, yet again, he was infodumping about the show while laying down and watching the show.
“And then, the Six-Eared Macaque attempted to get away, but Sun Wukong stopped him! I wasn’t told what happened to him, but whatever Monkey King did for him to hate him must have been really bad.”
You nod along as MK continues to loredump the entire show as things are happening on screen, and time flies by quickly before Mei’s alarm goes off, letting you all take your masks off.
Eventually, the doorbell rang, and opening it revealed Pigsy and Tang, who both had bags of fresh noodles in their hands. “Sorry if we’re late, we bought food.” Tang said.
You let them in and call everyone to sit anywhere they find room. Tang, Pigsy and Sandy all sat on the chairs of the counter, while you, MK and Mei all sat at the couch, continuing to watch the show.
“Mmm, no matter what, Pigsy’s food is always so good!” You say with a smile as you chow down on the noodles with newfound energy.
Flustered, Pigsy quietly thanked you before going back to eating his own. Tang laughed teasingly over his reaction.
Everything was so relaxing that, by the time everything was done and they all left, you had nearly almost forgotten your plan to save the Spider Queen.
You held her helmet again and you laid in your bed. Your plan was to save her and her goons, but you had a very low chance of saving them all, and your best bet was to just save her.
What repercussions would this have? You only had theories, since Spider Queen’s death was a major point in the Lady Bone Demon gaining her powerful Mech, so how would canon react?
At this point, you had just been screwing canon over just by being in the show, so might as well screw it over purposefully this time around.
You hid the helmet in a box under your bed before going to sleep that night.

Kaz Brekker x Gender Neutral!Reader
Tumblr media
Masterlist
A/N: I can’t believe how long it’s been! Writer’s block has been a nightmare the last 6 months, but I’m really excited to jump back into it—especially with Shadow & Bone requests (hint, hint). I wanted to leave the reasoning for their conflict open to interpretation, so I hope I succeeded! As always, I hope you enjoy. Feel free to leave any feedback you have in the comments and if you like my work consider leaving a tip! Thanks:)
Rating: General
Word Count: 300+
Warnings: Angst, Death Mentions, Touch Aversion, Implied Friends to Lovers, a smidge of Fluff.
Kaz felt trapped, pinned by your steady gaze, smothered by the silence. He didn’t look at you. He couldn’t.
A bastard like him could never be known, not in any way that held meaning.
Without his permission, his throat burned and his lips suddenly twitched with the urge to form the words.
He wanted to tell you to leave Ketterdam. He wanted to tell you how twisted and wrong he was, in all the ways that you were good. He wished to tell you that he wanted you—regardless of his own failings, regardless of how selfish it was. He wanted to convince you that you should run and never look back, because he knew the mere thoughts of longing were enough to put a target through your soul and a price on your head.
Bile bubbled in his gut as an image of you with a bullet between your eyes flashed across his vision. Gloves straining under the tension, his grip on his cane tightened, abating the waters lapping at his ankles.
Kaz Brekker’s decision wasn’t fueled by spite. He didn’t speak from a place of revenge. But the words that finally escaped his grasp were crueler, more heedless than anything else he could have said.
“Stay”, his eyes met yours, a depth to them you had never known before, “Stay in Ketterdam.”
You stepped close enough to feel his warm breath fan your face, your fingers tentatively wrapping around the cuff of his shirt, the pressure just light enough for him to feel along his wrist. A silent question.
Kaz drew in a sharp breath through his nose, fighting the waves of memories that loomed over him like a storm in the distance, focusing instead on the steady sensation of the pulse that lay beyond your fingertips.
He ached with the unbearable urge to return the touch, but for now he knew his words would have to be enough.
“Stay with me.”

𝑺𝑭𝑾🌿
・Having a significant other that’s a pirate is very, very convenient for not only Jesper, but the rest of the Crows
・It means a get away, extra hands and a way to get things from A to B. But you don’t do it for free -
・Doing things for your boyfriend only goes so far. And Kaz pays you handsomely so that your crewmates aren’t loose-lipped
・Unlike Nikolai, who calls himself a privateer, you’re happy to call yourself a pirate.
・And that’s why you’re one of the most feared - you’re not only dangerous, but very, very determined. If you want something, you will do anything and everything in your power to get it
・That’s why Kaz trusts you - he sees a bit of himself in you. You’re just as ambitious.
・Constantly being wooed. Even though you’re still in a relationship, Jesper likes to make you blush
・You hand-pick your crew, and have a strong friendship with each of them.
・If someone is hurt, you give them the best of care
・Your ship is called ‘The Disgraced Princess’
・Your background and family are a secret, only Kaz, Inej and Jesper know who you truly are. Because if word got out about the truth, everything would come crumbling down and the King of Ravka would retrieve you himself
・You have a close relationship with Inej especially. You both know how it feels to be trapped. Especially somewhere you hate, with people who don’t see you as a person
・You much prefer to be at sea, than at port.
・Although you do love jewellery and wear rings on your fingers, with large jewels and earrings that are pure gold
・Your reputation grows and grows. And you have been in a few battles. Your swordsmanship is getting better, but you’re great with a gun.
・That’s one of the things that Jesper fell in love with - you were almost as good of a shot as he
・Always blows you a kiss before leaving
・There’s always a present for Jesper when you see him. You specifically plunder something he’d like, and ‘surprise’ him when you see him next
・Jesper is so proud of you though, he thinks you’re incredibly impressive and loves to tell people that you’re together.
・You’re very close with your Quartermaster (who is the second-in-command and supervises the crew). You had originally asked Inej to be your Quartermaster, but she had to decline - she couldn’t be away from the Crows for too long
・Jesper is incredibly jealous of your Quartermaster, who he thinks will steal away your affections
・Big adrenaline junkie, and if you’re going on a dangerous misison, he wants to be there
・Constantly gives you a mischievous grin, and you know sh*ts about to go down
𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝑷𝒆𝒕 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒓 𝒀𝒐𝒖: ‘Sweetums,’ ‘Honey-pie,’ ‘Sweet-cheeks,’ ‘My Little Murderous Pirate.’ Jesper is the type to come up with incredibly embarrassing pet names, but completely mean them.
𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒈𝒆: Gift Giving and Physical Touch. My boy MISSES YOU when you aren’t together, and makes up for it the next time he sees you. Like he’s saved all his affection and couldn’t use it on anyone but you. He also buys you a lot of things that match with things he’s bought for himself.

A/n: This is inspired by Moulin Rouge the musical both adaptations and the place. I imagine the characters to be more like 25 in this.
Tumblr media
Early in the morning of Ketterdam fog hung over the streets, while most towns would be asleep, Ketterdam never slept. There was always laughing from a bar, hushed whispers from allies, the drunken shouts of yells, screams of a not so lucky passerbye, honey sweet calls from brothels, that was the barrel, that was the life you knew. You were awake at your desk running through the plans that a certain man had given you. The certain man who was feared by many, he had created numerous enemies yet remained in power, that man being the bastard of the Barrel, Kaz Brekker. And unfortunately for you the man your heart belonged to. You hadn’t quite been a dregger or a crow more like a person of select skills for even selector hire or in other words you sometimes applied these skills but only for Kaz Brekker. Not to say you didn’t get along with the crows, in fact you got along amazingly. They quite enjoyed your “refreshing” presence as they stated, the best term to explain your relation would be friends of some sort.
Otherwise you worked as a bartender and occasional waiter when it got crowded in the Crow Club. It wasn't anything much, however you always noticed a few extra gold coins that appeared in your pocket on payday. Many days after the Crow Club closed for the night or at that point what had been very early morning, it lay empty, Kaz’s companions off somewhere leaving the two of you in amicable silence as he slowly sipped on the strongest liquor on the shelf while you did whatever cleaning up needed to be done, many of times conversations would eventually spur. And then he found out about your particular skill set slowly once on a busy night you were waiting tables when a customer was getting a little too handsy with you after you repeatedly told him to stop Kaz was about to intervene only to see you grab the customers arm twisting it behind his body and smashing his head into the hard wooden edge of the gambling table breaking his nose. Most of the crowd at the table turned stunned, you quickly dropped the stuff off, gave a quick bow in apologies as you left, Kaz stood slightly impressed. Another time you had forgotten your key to open the club before the sun had even come up, you squatted down so you were eye level with the lock, quickly you rummaged through the pockets of your heavy woollen coat finding a random thin hooped earring you picked up on the street and a paperclip you quickly unbent the paperclip and pulled the thin hool straight as well little did you know Kaz was approaching when he spotted you crouched at the door however he saw you pull out the two random objects to his own confusion as you pushed them into the locks fiddling with the tumblers till you heard a click, you stood up and to the others shock opened the door, and then walked in. The third time he was talking to Jesper after the crow club had closed for the night and not bothering to care whether you were there. Jesper was discussing how the Landercrofts, a very wealthy family that were the head of one of the gangs, were having their annual ball in which the crows were planning to rob their vault during the party. Jesper had gotten his hands on false invitations and was stating how the dress code was black and white when you spoke up stating that the dress code this year was red, the black and white dress code was a rumour to set apart who had gotten invited and who was sneaking in. When Kaz and Jesper inquired into where you had gotten that information you explained how your connections made you quite knowledgeable of the barrel and many drunks let things slip. And the fourth time, was when you were carrying a glass from a table once the club was closed when you tripped the glass shattering at your feet Kaz who was by you when you tripped at the same time as you quickly belt down to pick up the glass out of an instinct. You both immediately reached for the largest piece when your hand brushed against his glove and he flinched only he really didn't. It was a slight twinge but less than usual so he tried it out again prying the glass out of your hands and once again he was a little nerved but better than he had with pretty much anyone else. So Kaz could only see one thing to do with your talents and would hire you on the occasion he saw fit which was becoming more and more often. Tonight was the ball that the crows had prepared for months for and the one in which you provided consistent information for, Kaz only saw it fit as you would be one of the ones to directly infiltrate the ball.
Hours passed by as you ran through the plans over and over again before you knew it, it was evening just a few hours before the ball. You frantically got ready scolding yourself for being so careless with watching the time. You grabbed the blood red outfit that laid on your bed for the past day delivered personally by Kaz. The brunette male had also delivered the red mask that was decorated in black markings intricately painted and sculpted; mixed with the outfit there was no way that Kaz paid for it just for you for this one event, someone had to owe him a debt for this. You quickly got yourself ready like you had used to, it had been a long time since you wore anything like this and you were glad for it. A sharp knock came from your door as you scrambled stuffing any possible tools you’d need into various hidden pockets. Opening the old door which let out an unpleasant creak revealed Kaz in a black and red suit to match your outfit.
“ Good your ready we need to go” Kaz let out curtly which was not what he wanted to say yet it was all that he could let out in the cold streets of Ketterdam where anyone could hear anything and take things the wrong way but for what he was going to say they surely would have took it the correct way. You gave a swift nod, looking behind him to see a black horse drawn carriage, Nina and Jesper at the driver's seat waiting impatiently for you two to climb into the back.
“ I thought Inej and Jesper were also supposed to be going in with us?” You questioned, confused at Inej’s lack of presence and Jesper at the reins in a not ball ready outfit.
“ They will be going in just not with, now if we want to be on time we must move.” Kaz responded as he turned walking away climbing into the back of the carriage you followed in tow closing the door as you entered.
Sitting on the plush cushions you ran your hand against the seat and the wooden sill that elegantly framed the window, you breathed in the stale air of the carriage the feeling, the smell had all been so familiar to all those days and nights it was honestly shocking you could forget it for this long. Kaz eyed you silently, watching your face twinge in familiarity however that look was soon gone in your eyes and an eerie tint of hatred flickered. For the rest of the ride you just peered out the window mindlessly. The lights from the mansion shimmered as you approached in your carriage many other carriages also appeared to be dropping guests off. The carriage slowly stopped to a stuttering halt pausing as the carriage rocked slightly giving away that either Jesper or Nina had gotten off their seats. The carriage door swung open, Nina holding it wide open. You put the mask on quickly looking over to Kaz who had done the same, his mask being black decorated with red instead, the inverse of yours. The man swiftly climbed out of the carriage waiting with his hand outreached ready to help you out of it as the carriage hobbled. Nina eyed the two of you in surprise as you took his hand carefully stepping down the wobbling carriage, lights poured carefully out of the manor barley illuminating the pathways that led to the large doors that were cracked and every so often would open letting light flood onto the party goers entering the masquerade. Kaz left his elbow out as you tucked your arm into it carefully so as not to look suspicious to other attendees. The brunette male held the invitations in his opposite hand, grasping them tightly. Stiffly walking up to the doors large men who had large swords sheathed in leather at their sides; ready to be pulled out against any threat to the people of the manor. The guards had displeased faces as they stood tall, intimidating, snatching invitations out of the hands of masked figures. Shortly You and Kaz stood before a guard who stood with her arms crossed and the corner of her lips pulled into a tight frown. Kaz stared at her equal in expression for a long couple of seconds before swiftly putting his arm up the two pale beige invitations decorated in gold swirls with hints of red trickled on them the women to the invitations inspecting them carefully front and back before taking out a wooden plank the split into two three quarters of the way she wedged one of the invitations between the the slit in the plank harshly squeezing it together giving it back to Kaz’s outstretched hand revealing it to have a red seal marking the paper, the guard did the same to the other begrudgingly knocking on the large painted metal and wood doors causing them to slowly open. You and the stiff brunette behind you slipped through into the manor. Laughter and music filled the air swirling around the stuffy air of the large ballroom, gowns splaying out from being turned by their suit and gown clad partners. Standing at the top of the marble stairs looking down upon the people down below, the shoulder that pressed against you that was tensed loosened slightly with a relieved breath. Turning your head to look at Kaz he slanted his head to you in return giving a sharp nod before you both took equally swift steps toward the stairs before descending into the madness of the ballroom. Kaz took a step away from the stairs and away from you his red gloved hand offering his hand with his other arm plastered behind him only then did you noticed the absence of his cane, you gave him a confused look to which he took a step to you whispering below his breath.
“ We cannot afford to look suspicious.” Kaz said lowly pulling up the leg of his suit revealing a slight gleam of metal which appeared to be a brace only letting it fall quickly before taking a step back to once again offer his hand. People whirled around behind him but you could only see him under the warm chandelier light that illuminated the marble floor and sparkling cloth.
“ Of course” You replied fondly to both the gesture and his comment, gently taking his hand taking several steps out onto the floor before turning toward each other. The song that had been playing had finished partners taking a step back bowing or curtsying to the other. The music picked up again with a medium pace waltz, guests flocking toward each other for the dance.
“ Do you want to lead or shall I?” The brunette in front of you commented fidgeting stiffly once again.
“ Eh doesn’t matter to me, dealer's choice.” You shrugged in response figuring that while Kaz offered he probably only knew one of those options if even considering his aversion toward contact. Kaz took a step closer lifting your hand which still lightly remained in his to his shoulders which he set on his ridged boney shoulder his hand reached for your side placing it gently and you grabbed his other hand raising it up holding it slightly below your shoulder as well as out. Kaz moved his foot toward yours, yours moving back in response to the waltzing causing a game of call and response in your movements. Your partner moved his head closer to the side of yours leaning in his mouth by your ear, you could feel a hot breath tickling your ear making a slight tinge of fluster.
“ We need to distract the Landercrofts, Alinda Landercroft and Jerad Landercoft are over by there by the fourth column from the window,” Kaz whispered carefully stopping midway to turn you a subtle gesture you understood, getting a flash of the pale couple in their 50’s, Alinda Landercoft wore a deep red chiffon and miniver gown that was adorned with ruffles while Jerad Landercroft wore a black suit with a red suit vest that matched the same shade of red of his wife, a large top hat stood on his head causing his short grey hair to sprawl out.
“ Their son Devlin is over there succumbing to his seduction activities.” The brunette gestured with his head to the blonde haired male around your age. He was surrounded by a couple of people of all genders who were fawning over him, him just giving a lazy suggestive smile to each of them. He wore a loose black top that cut low into his chest, a red vest tightened to his figure and black dress pants that were tight around his waist leaving little to the imagination a seemingly common theme with his outfit.
“ Once this song ends we should make discussion with Alinda Landercroft and her husband, their son seems busy enough.” Kaz said vaguely referring to his flirting where now a short haired person in a dress that had a very low bust and corset that pushed their chest up, rubbed said chest against his arm as you groaned in disgust.
And as the song ended the two of you briskly walked toward the older-ish couple who were laughing as you approached. You stopped before the couple you and Kaz bowing your heads slightly as the Landercroft’s looked at you in curiosity.
“ Hello Mr. Landercroft, Mrs. Landercroft,-” Kaz started as you internally sighed at his bluntness that was going to get you guys caught before you decided to interrupt him.
“ Mr Landercroft, Mrs Landercroft! Truly this gala is lovely, every year you never fail to impress me or my husband!” You exclaim in delight to them touching Kaz’s arm affectionately at the term “husband” as the brunette give you a wild slightly disturbed look at your behaviour to which you just gave him a slight unnoticeable jab to the ribs.
“ Oh well thank you my dear! But may I be reminded of who you are? My memory isn't as sharp as it used to be.” Mrs. Landercroft said jokingly as you all(except for Kaz) let out a slight chuckle at her statement.
“ Of course don’t worry I get it, I am (F/n) Casspian and this is my wonderful husband Kazmere Casspian. Between you and me he’s not much of a talker unless it comes down to business.” You tell them fake whispering the last part to Mrs. Landercroft in which she responded with a hearty laugh as Kaz rolled his eyes in response but slightly thankful you’d be handling the small talk especially with how much of a natural you were at this.
“ Same with mine dear!” She laughed out as her husband grumbled beside her as you joined her laughter faking it.
“ Now what did you say you did again?” She “asked” or in the world of the rich she was demanding you explain how you got into the party as people these rich rarely personally invite people more so often leaving it to trusted members of the household to invite people of popularity, opportunity, or influence.
“ The Casspians own that metal company. I believe I recently heard about it from an associate, I hear that it's becoming very influential.” Mr. Landercroft spoke up in a very “knowledgeable” tone which would have been knowledgeable except for the fact that none of it was true nor was it planted information just the older man trying to show off. Both you and and the brunette next to you turned your heads slightly making eye contact with a look of confusion at what bullshit this man was spewing to which you both just shrugged your shoulders slightly turning your attention back to the couple.
“ Yes and we were hoping to establish some sort of arrangement between our company and yours.” The brunette says to the elderly couple to which both looked shocked to see him speaking however you internally smiled smug at the distraction this provided the others who should be close to the vault in the eastern wing of the manor.
“ That would be great, son!” Mr. Landercroft said walking over clapping Kaz on the back was quite hard as Kaz flinched away from the contact, inching closer to you pressing tightly against your arm as you felt his arm trembling slightly against yours. You carefully snaked your hand towards his tightly clenched fist nudging it with your pinky in a silent ask. His hand slacked open in response as your hand slid into his carefully rubbing circles onto the back of his hand as his shaking slowly started to decrease as the older man in front of you ran his mouth off about his company.
“ Well son why don’t we all head to my office to hash out the details.” Mr. Landercroft stated hearty as he laughed, putting out his arm for his wife. You looked as Kaz grimacing when the others were not looking, pointing your head towards Devlin who was still wrapped up “entertaining” the people around him. The brunette nodded in understanding at your subtle gesture.
“ Mr Landercroft I would love to join however I must leave my husband up to this, an old acquaintance of mine appears to be here and I’ve never been good at business.” You speak in fake regret towards the couple furrowing your eyebrows together and letting out a tight lipped smile. The couple nodded in understanding of your statement. You turned to Kaz one of your hands still holding his slightly trembling one, you carefully grabbed his other hand with your free one looking at him for any resistance to which you received none you gently raised both his towards each other raising them to your mouth as you bowed your head maintaining eye contact with him lightly brushing your lips against his gloved hands the thick cotton rough under your lips as you placed a soft kiss on them. Kaz's eyes only widened slightly as the corners of his lips threatened to twitch into a warm small smile so faintly you may not have even realised nothing like his manic and greedy smile but a smile that held whatever pieces of his heart had been left. And so you let him go which caused a faint tug at your own heart as you watched him leave with the couple, your eyes trailing him as much as you could before he completely disappeared through the crowd. You turned back to the people whirling in endless mindless circles in lavish gowns and suits. This is the life they know and for most of them all they’ve known but it was also a life you knew, you knew it in the twisted behind closed doors way. And so you skimmed the crowd following it all the way to the blonde man who leaned in close to one of the people that was crowded around him a inch distance from their face with a smirk on his. You made up your mind and decided you would distract him yourself to avoid suspicion of just standing in the open unmoving, unamused. So you walk up to the male swaying your hips slightly, an innocent smile that holds a slight suggestiveness undertone to it cringing internally. The blonde's eyes turned wide for a second before his entire face turned into a smirk as he stopped leaning against the pillar standing straight up, his arms still crossed.
“ Well hello,” Devlin stated seductively(?), more like an attempt to be seductive to which you internally groaned with disgust. But regardless of how cringe worthy it felt you went along with it looking way in fake flusteredness.
“ Hello,” You replied meekly, crying internally at how awful the situation was. The blonde just continued to smirk as he took a step towards you.
“ Well what caused you to wander over here love.” The man replied teasingly and unfortunately for him horribly unattractive. And so your fake waltz began with your “subtle flirting” and his prowling responses. Many of the people who had been fawning over him had walked away with their noses high in the air, scoffing, at your presence it certainly hadn’t been the first time you experienced this but hopefully would be the last. And so your little dance began with slight touches, suggestive innocent sentences, and so on, all part of your careful scheme of distraction. And oh how you dreaded it weaving a web around the playboy who only expected you to be an innocent party-goer who had been entranced by him not a thief who took the role upon themself to protect the man and friends they had come to adore.
“ Well darling how about we head to somewhere more private.” The blonde said his voice dropping as he pressed his mouth against your ear, you having to clench your fingernails into your palm to resist the urge to push him away. But of course you had a role to play and so you’d play it. Your lips turned into a slight pout as you spoke up.
“ Well could we have one dance…first?” You trailed off hugging his arm, an obnoxious move but one that charmed him and most likely only his lips turned into a gentle smile.
“ Why of course.” He responded lightly as he reached his out for yours ready for you to grasp it. You of course did as the two of you walked out into the centre which had just concluded the previous dance, some couples fled to the side, some stayed and some joined. All on the floor stayed perfectly still as they were in their spots until the musicians started to play. It was a medium paced dance and one you knew well. You sighed in relief at the fact you knew the dance and one that you knew well but not only that the dance was one in which you switched partners for a large portion of it in the middle meaning you could get a break from Devlin, what a relief that would be. Your whirling and steps began him sweeping you through the other couples narrowly missing one another, Devlin holding you to him as tight as he possibly could. You on the other hand were mentally counting down the seconds till you would get to switch partners. Then finally what felt like forever you spun away only to be caught by what you’d hoped was anyone better than him. You were wrong. The man in front of you had his hair gelled matching his thick beard and moustache, his eyes stared coldly into you, a smirk upon his lips. You knew the man, you knew him very well and you hated him, you hated him for yourself, for the people he’s hurt, and for Kaz. But there he was in front of you smirking your dance partner, any sliver of hope you’d had. He didn't recognize you went out the window when you came face to face with him.
“ Rollins.” You spat at him, your face seething with anger.
“ (Y/n)” He responded back with that stupid greedy smirk on his face causing you to roll your eyes.
“ You are looking as great as ever, tell me have you taken a visit back yet since your little runaway stunt.” He commented, the words rolling off his tongue in a fake syrupy sweetness. You gritted your teeth together as you stared at his cold gaze with one equally of coldness, possibly even more.
“ Do not even speak of that to me.” You hissed at him hating how one of his hands rested on your waist and the other touching your hand, but most of all you hated how you had to continue this charade with the man, the man that the person you cared for had despised.
“ Oh you mean the Red Windmill or Ryker Knox because both are missing their shining diamond terribly,” He started your face twisting briefly into horror before going back to being enraged “ You know nobody would have ever thought you would have run away from the man much less to the bastard of the barrel.”
“ What are you talking about?” You state sharply trying to feign ignorance in masking your terror that you might’ve put a larger target on Kaz’s back.
“ Oh you know what I’m talking about, I know you quite fancy that bastard but what would dear old Ryker say about that…” He trailed off getting closer, his voice dropping lowly.
“ If you dare do something-” You began to threaten before he clicked his tongue interrupting you.
“ Well for starters I could order my men to go capture them right now don’t think I don’t know about your little heist,” he interrupted now finally so close he was whispering in your ear as you shuddered in fear at the fact you knew why all the guards looked vaguely familiar they had been Rollins in disguise of course they had, “ or you could listen to me and your dear bastard and his group of misfits will go free unharmed, accomplishing their heist, and you won’t be dragged back to Knox.”
“ What do you want?” You said out of your clenched teeth to him terrified at his threat. You couldn’t let them be caught if you could’ve done something to avoid it and you certainly wouldn't, no you couldn’t allow yourself to be dragged back to that awful awful man. You would allow yourself to take your very last breath before you’d ever go back to him willingly or unwilling. Pekka only smirked in response from the little you had seen of him pulling away from your ear for a slight moment before leaning back.
“ To leave with me. You are to leave with me and work for me,” He started as you raised your eyebrow at why he’d possibly want you, you could offer up a decent set of skills but none he needed unless it had to do with your prior “occupation” in which you’d rather die however if thats what would save your friends and your livelihood so be it. But then the man continued, “ And when you do so, when the bastard comes for you, you will tell him no, you will reject the boy and you will break his heart.”
“ Is there anything else?” You let out monotonous, staring ahead blankly ignoring the man's disgustingly hot breath against your ear before pulling away doing the turn the dance required only to slam back into him. You hadn’t questioned his condition, you knew Kaz wouldn’t come for you, and you couldn’t even blame him for it how could you, it wasn’t going to break his heart that the bartender who had some extra abilities would end up going with Pekka Rollins his enemy sure it would piss him off in terms of loyalty but break his heart no, no it wouldn’t. But of course you couldn’t fathom how much it actually would, how would you when the only time the man would let his heart bleed for you was in the moments you’d blink and for those split milliseconds his gaze would soften when it wandered to you, or when the early hours of the morning when even the crows of Ketterdam slept but he’d be the only person up his mind drifting to you so quietly, or in crowded rooms when he could pick out your voice out , out of the many drinking it in memorising it ever so thoroughly, or maybe it was when he’d watch you clean the club late at night after closing and he‘d get to indulge at letting your name roll off his tongue not having to fear the world hearing, so yes how would you know when he loved you in the quiet moments, moments of time no one in the world could detect in his terror of someone finding out. And yet he failed.
“ All you will need to do is sit there and look handsome, with the possibility of obtaining information.” He responded back his voice slick with victory his words slithering like a snake into your ear but it wasn’t words of temptation he whispered it was venom it was the venom of the life you could not live it was the venom that would kill your livelihood, kill your soul, and ultimately kill you. But it wasnt a choice it was a sword and a vial of poison it was death for you either way one would be slow and painful, guilt, shame, and hatred would be one or the other where only you would suffer completely it would take a bit of time to kick in but only you would be harmed without having to worry about the others. And so your choice was made you acting as your own executioner.
“ I will do it, but only if you agree that they will go successfully with the heist and you will not do anything to them directly or indirectly.” You said firmly making your final stand refusing to let any loopholes get through for your effort.
“ Fine, I agree. Let us go.” he said, grabbing your wrist harshly, twisting it a little bit as he dragged you to the door as you attempted to keep looking back a few times desperately as a final last hope that one of the crows may be there but of course this was reality they were not. And so you were dragged out into the dark night by the monster who was to cage you once again. The stars and sky of Ketterdam had never looked as cold and dull as they did tonight but you attempted to ignored them as you got into the dark carriage not caring to look around just staring blankly into the void of the night, the lights of the manor disappearing behind you and the weight of what you had just agreed to started consuming you into the void of the night.

masterlist.
Tumblr media
NIKOLAI LANTSOV
✦ He would overplan and over think every detail, he's worse than Genya
✦ Thoughts like "Which gift would you like better?" "An outdoor or indoor date?" "Maybe a date at the theatre?"
✦ He'd spent nights planning but nothing seemed right, Zoya knocked some sense into him. "I think they wouldn't mind all this expensive stuff, but you being there is enough"
✦ Would end up going simple, inviting you to dine with him
✦ The food would be some of the best you'd ever tasted
✦ After the dinner you would walk the gardens together, enjoying the fresh air when with his luck, he's being called back to the palace
✦ "May I have this dance," Nikolai intrigued by what your doing, takes you up on the offer
✦ The two of us danced until the meeting was on the back of his mind but eventually he had to leave but not without a kiss
TAMAR YUL BATAAR
✦ Tamar's mentality is more of "let's see what the day brings" but she does have some stuff planed
✦ The ship had docked in Novy Zem, a festival taking place near the docks. Tamar remembered you wanting to visit it
✦ The festival had carts lining the street with all kinds of delicacies from every corner of the world. Streets booming with colours. It was a beautiful site
✦ Tamar and you spent the day trying all kinds of food and just being around each other. She didn't mind spending all her money just for you to keep that lovely smile
✦ Then the both of you found yourselves in a local bar, singing songs you'd only learned the words to an hour ago
✦The day ended in a cot, somehow two people fitting in such a small space. You laying completely on her, sound asleep
TOLYA YUL BATAAR
✦ Tolya is the romantic out of the twins
✦ Still he would go simple being apart of Nikolai's crew means travelling a lot and that leaves out, a typical dinner date
✦ Living on a ship as well doesn't help. There aren't many places for a quite talk, let alone a date
✦ Instead he turns to what he knows best, poetry. He would spend days looking for the perfect book and then weeks annotating it. Underlining verses that reminds him of you or moments shared together
✦ He would invite you to the deck and by the time he did most of the crew were asleep. You thought he'd forgotten the holiday all together, you were wrong. He gave you a box of sweets he'd bought at the port in Novy Zem, along with the book
✦ You'd spent the rest of the night sharing the sweets and just enjoying each other's company
✦ When you finally had the chance to read the book, some of the poems described the stars lost in the night's sky, a sea of darkness, finding their true purpose upon the arrival of the moon. "You're my moon, the only purpose I need" (sorry it's cheesy)
GENYA SAFIN
✦ Genya would go above and beyond to make the perfect valentine's day date
✦ A picnic date if the weather calls for it with both of your favourite snacks, foods and deserts
✦ If it does end up raining a nice date indoors would be something she prefers over, a fancy dinner
✦ She doesn't mind dining in a expensive restaurant, but she thinks a more personal dinner at home, is better
✦ Genya would plan everything down to the last minute especially if it's your first valentine's day together
✦ She ended up getting her picnic date
✦ All kinds of foods were lined up in front of you as you enjoyed the sunny day and spending time with Genya
ZOYA NAZYALENSKY
✦ You would be the one planning the date and Zoya would act as if the holiday has little significance to her. You'd decided a date at a fancy restaurant was the way to go
✦ She'd loved it, the one you chose wasn't too crowded and the food was delicious. You'd talked about your future plans with one another, how your day had gone and so on
✦ After leaving the restaurant, the two of you headed somewhere a bit more reclusive to watch the fireworks
✦ Zoya too busy staring at the fireworks, didn't notice your hands putting something around her neck. Once she tore her eyes from the literal explosions of colour, she spotted a beautiful necklace. "Happy Valentine's day."

Secondo x reader because I need a good ol hug from a father figure. Definitely totally not inspired by @copiasjuicebox papa bear headcanons
Secondo finding you having a meltdown in the furthest part of the library. Seeing you sob next to manuscripts older than him and maybe some of the younger ghouls, made his heart break. And before you can explain it away he gets ok his knees and wipes away your tears and pulls you into him. You don't even process him picking you up and taking you out of the library until you're halfway through the halls outside, all while he hums his album to you.
At some point you make it to his room, and he puts you down in his bed. Slowly brushing through your hair as he pulls away to look at you, reassuringly he tells you it's ok and asks if you wanna stay with him. You give a quiet nod and he gives you some clothes of his he's set aside. And after you change out of the clothes you just cried in, after all the crying and the feeling you are just so tired. And Secondo is there to hold you.
He holds you, he helps you into his bed as you curl into him. The soft reassurance that he will keep you safe and that even when you fall he will be there and that he will protect you. That he is your protector and that he loves you.

Atsumu Miya is the kind of person who wishes he could have dated his childhood best friend. He wishes the person who always had his back could have also been the love of his life. Sadly, he’s never had a crush on any of his childhood friends, and the two of you met too late in life to be considered a childhood friend. Of course, he's happy to have met you, and fallen in love with you, but sometimes he can’t help the jealousy that fills him when he sees you with your childhood friends. Wishes the two of you could have met earlier, that he could be there reliving those moments with you and your friends, adding his own spin on old inside jokes and laughing along.
He’s not dumb enough to let it get in the way of your relationship. But sometimes he likes pretending he grew up with you, likes pretending the two of you were always there just out of reach of each other romantically until you were both older.
Pushing the hopeless romantic atsumu agenda tonight boys.

Between the Bones (Leon x GN! Reader) - Chapter 1
He knew STRATCOM training would be brutal. He knew that they were teaching you all to face down hell itself. Turns out, Leon isn't the only one who's already been there.

Disclaimer: This series is super, super long! Like, 40+ chapters long, just a fair warning!

Whenever Major Krauser smiled, everyone knew that someone was going to be in a world of hurt. That rule had become very plain very quickly in training for the US Strategic Command. Things were bloody and bruising enough as it was, but whenever someone mouthed off, or failed . . . hell, even when they succeeded, the Major would put on that toothy grin and then the gloves would really come off.
Leon always managed to find himself on the opposite end of that smile, one way or another. Always wound up finishing the day with a little more black and blue on him than everyone else.
It was making him angry. Angry enough that today, when the knife of the man Leon was fighting clattered to the ground and Krauser just smiled, Leon very much considered just getting a head start and rushing the Major then and there. Might as well, if it would save him some time and effort.
“Well, well, rookie,” Krauser grinned, and Leon’s opponent took the opportunity to scoop the knife up from the dirt and get the hell out of dodge. Then, it was just Leon in the metaphorical ring. Leon and the heat of the midday sun beating down on him, just as oppressive as Krauser’s damn smile. “Not half bad. But we all knew Kennedy was going to get the hang of this quick, didn’t we?”
The rest of the trainees almost snickered. They knew what was coming. Better Leon than them.
“What do you say we give him a real challenge?”
Leon braced himself. Angled himself towards Krauser, adjusted his grip on his knife. Even if the weapons weren’t edged he knew this was about to hurt, so he took a steadying breath.
Then, Krauser turned his back to Leon and walked away.
Was this a test? Should Leon attack him while his back was turned? Or was that just going to make whatever ass-kicking that was coming his way worse? He balanced on the balls of his feet, unsure of what to do-
Another pair of boots against the dirt caught his attention, and where Major Krauser had stood, someone else now took his place.
You took his place.
Leon had seen you before. All of his fellow trainees had. He and the rest would watch your unit running drills sometimes, like first-year students staring wide-eyed at the seniors. You’d been here longer than he had. Trained with Krauser for longer. It showed in the way you moved, but mostly in your eyes.
For a moment, Leon was reminded of Raccoon City. Of that over-strong and over-dressed monstrosity that had stalked him that night. No hesitation, no fear.
You, like that thing, looked at Leon like he was a job to complete quickly.
And you advanced on him just as quickly, even as Leon realized you didn’t have a knife on you. “Sir-” he almost got to voice his concern before it was stripped from him, just as you aimed to strip the knife from his hand.
You almost did it, too. It was a quick move, just like Krauser taught him. Control the arm, the blade, then pry. Quick and efficient.
Leon was quick, too. He twisted free of your grip and shoved you away - a stupid misstep, he knew and the rest of the unit watching the fight knew it too. They all jeered at the move, and Leon bristled. Keep your opponent close, he could practically hear the Major’s voice. You aren’t using a fucking sword! You can’t hit them from that far away!
But Leon preferred distance. Distance was safe. Distance meant that whatever horror was coming his way wouldn’t get the chance to rip a chunk out of him. To sink its teeth into his flesh. To turn him-
He glanced over to see if Krauser was watching. To see if he would comment on the mistake.
Instead, his C.O. just watched, never losing that grin.
“Eyes on me!” You growled, and Leon listened. He locked all his focus on you, losing his concern for you being unarmed as he sized you up, ignoring the rogue strands of hair in his eyes. He could see what this was. Krauser was using this as a lesson for both you and him. One person armed with a blade, the other with more experience.
The odds should have been against you, but for experience. Still, even with the advanced training you had over him, you remained just out of Leon’s reach. Watching. Waiting, just as he was.
“We gonna dance all day, or are we gonna do this?” Leon huffed, but you didn’t entertain him with an answer, or even a move. You just remained where you were, your guard up and your jaw tight.
“Not much of a dancer either, I guess.”
He lunged, slashing at your stomach, right to left. You barely avoided it, exhaling sharply as the training knife cut the air an inch from your belly. He felt the touch of your hand, barely registering it as he went on pressing another attack. This one at your shoulder.
You moved your opposite hand, blocking and moving all at once, leaving no air for him to breathe in between. Control the arm, the blade-
Your fingers worked quickly, but the kick you delivered to the back of his knee helped. Leon’s stance buckled, his eyes going wide as a yelp escaped him as he stopped himself from falling. His hold slipped as you pried his grip free, and then there was a knife at his throat and a pair of cold eyes looking down at him. Your focus didn’t waver. Not one inch.
A moment passed as he looked up at you, his ears and cheeks growing hotter as frustration burned at him. Then, a little whoosh of air as you drew the knife away from him, let it spin effortlessly around your fingers until the handle was facing him. “Again.”
And again.
And again.
And again.
Over and over as Leon felt his energy waning. The other cadets must have hated him for taking so long. Or, maybe, they were thankful it was him taking your hits and not them. If you were pulling those hits, it sure as hell didn’t feel like it. Fists, feet and the dull blade of his own knife had met his skin hard over and over again, until Leon was sure that he would be a painting of his own failures in a few hours. You had the courtesy to avoid using that force on his face and neck, at least. He landed a few non-lethal hits and did his best to analyze what worked. How he got through your defenses. The trouble was, you did the same, and you did it a lot faster than he did. It could only have been a few minutes, but the cycle of defeat after defeat made it seem longer. Agonizingly, infuriatingly, longer.
All the while, Krauser remained silent on the sidelines, watching. It was more unnerving than anything else, but Leon didn’t pay him much mind. No, he was in this until the end, now, and so help him, he was going to win.
He bared his teeth as he stabbed forward, trying to keep himself focused. Measured. He’d faced worse than this. Everything in Raccoon City had been worse. You were just another person, like him.
One who made mistakes, just like he did.
Mistakes that, if he was honest with himself, he couldn’t quite pinpoint in the moment. All he knew was that he felt his knife connect hard with your side, scraping across your ribs, and he felt more vindicated than he had since he’d been recruited by STRATCOM. He even heard some of his fellow cadets give him a cheer for the blow. He smiled - really smiled - for the first time in what felt like months, happy just to have gotten one win in.
Then he looked up at you and that smile died. The cold focus you’d been holding on to for the whole match had just been torn to shreds by the anger he now found himself staring at.
Leon knew then that if he didn’t move fast, he was completely and utterly fucked.
The moment it took for him to realize that was all the time you needed.
As he tried to back away, your hands shifted, moving from the failed redirect you’d tried to set up and a hand came to cage the knife and his arm against your side. He tried to pull away, to escape, but you were faster, your hold true. His arm moved at your direction, up and over your head, pulling him forward.
Right into the kick you pushed into his gut, one that landed hard enough to make him almost lose his lunch, his vision blurring as the air escaped from his lungs with a pathetic sound. He was vaguely aware that he wasn’t holding the knife anymore.
Then pain exploded from his face, and he only realized you’d backhanded him as he fell, seeing the controlled follow-through out of the corner of his eye.
Skin scraped against the dirt as Leon just barely caught himself, his head still reeling from it all. He blinked, scrambling to get up as he saw red. He’d taken hits like that before, that wasn’t the problem. The problem, far as he was concerned, was the fact that you’d done it in a sparring match. A test of equals. The problem was that Krauser had set him up for failure, pitting Leon against you. The problem was that he was in this fucking spec ops training in the first place. The problem was that he’d been made to choose between his freedom and that of a child, and now-
Your weight against his back forced him down but made his anger rush to the surface. He thrashed, trying to get you off of him. Trying to apply what knowledge Krauser had instilled in him. Instead, he cried out in pain as your hand found his hair, pulling his head up by it while you pinned the rest of him to the ground. Cold steel slid in across his throat, the chill burning him as surely as his anger did.
“Hold!” Krauser. Finally.
Leon saw the Major step forward just as you released your hold on him. For a moment, he thought you might push his head into the dirt for good measure. Wouldn’t put it past you. He counted himself lucky when the knife moved away from him and your weight shifted.
Then, your hand was in front of him, open. An offer for help.
It was petty, Leon knew it, but he snarled up at you and slapped your hand away. He didn’t see the frown that crossed your face after. Didn’t care to.
“Pretty sad showing, rookie,” Krauser observed, circling where Leon was now pushing himself up from the ground. Leon thought he knew the tirade that was coming next, but today was a day for surprises. “And you-” he turned his gaze towards where you stood at attention, and Leon paused when he saw the expression you wore now. Eyes downcast, mouth curved into a frown. “What do you think is my problem with what I just saw you do?”
You swallowed, that hardened focus slipping. “I shouldn’t have hit him like that, sir.”
Krauser shook his head, considering your words. Then there was a flash of steel as he drew his own knife, moving towards you faster than you could avoid. You raised Leon’s knife, still held in your hand, but it wasn’t enough to stop Krauser from resting the flat of his blade over your ribs. Right where Leon had managed to land his hit. You flinched, your eyes flaring in a panic before settling again.
“My problem, Sergeant, is that you were too slow.”
Your jaw tightened, and you nodded. “I’ll do better next time, sir.” You sounded so small. How could you sound so small when only a moment ago you’d pinned Leon to the earth? When you’d seemed so unstoppable?
You were dismissed without fanfare, and you did not say a word in protest. When you passed Leon, you spared him the briefest of glances as you slapped the knife flat against his chest. Shame was what you wore, now, poorly hidden and almost all-consuming, it seemed. Leon didn’t get long to analyze it before you were gone, his own anger now culled back by concern. Misplaced concern.
He shouldn’t give a damn, not after the treatment you gave him. You had thoroughly beaten him in almost every way. One failure was enough to upset you so much . . .
Krauser went on with his instruction and Leon turned his attention back to the Major, trying to ignore the spreading pain across his cheek and the spreading curiosity in his head.
“Don’t worry, rookie,” Krauser chuckled, gesturing to Leon’s face. “Bruises are the best teachers.”

so I've been slowly trying to rewrite my very first chan fic, now that I have more experience with reader insert and I also have leagues more confidence.
-o0o-
“It’s a friend thing! Friend’s hang out all the time. We're going to go get coffee or something equally platonic and we're going to ignore all of the drunk texts I sent him!” Your voice raises in pitch towards the end, and it sounds like you're trying to convince yourself more than anything else.
Felix gives you a very unimpressed look. “You told him that you miss the feel of his-”
“I know what I said! Thank you.”
Those texts are burned into your brain, you're well aware of the things you sent Chan. How they got more detailed the more you sent. Just remembering some of them has you flushing.
“I mean," Felix hums, oblivious to the direction your thoughts are taking. "I guess it could be a thing friends do.” There's too much sarcasm in his words for your liking.
“As if you haven’t said something similar to any of your friends.”
One of his eyebrows arch, and the gesture is so very pointed. “Any friend that I’ve gotten on my knees for was never at any point an extremely complicated ex.”
"Oh, shut the fuck up." He's right and you hate it.

show!kaz brekker x gn!crow!reader
cws: blood, gun violence, panic attack details. show!kaz brekker is definitely older than 18 i've decided. there is no way that man is 17. anyways. both kaz and reader are over 18.
Tumblr media
everything in your head was muddled and foggy. the last thing you remember was you were on a job with the crows, and it was going well. you'd successfully performed your part, and thought you were in the clear. until an ambush, a lot of shouting and gunfire, and an agonising pain in your left thigh.
you jolted awake, three faces staring down at you in front of a damp, wooden ceiling.
"oh thank the saints, y/n. you had me worried there for a moment." nina sighed in relief as her hands fell to her sides. she'd clearly just been using her powers on you, which was unnerving.
you were breathing rapidly, too rapidly, and you sat up, still having said nothing. you couldn't. you were breathing too fast and your heart felt like it might explode. this was your first proper injury, and being shot with an actual gun had left you shaken and trembling, and the dull pain in your leg wasn't helping.
"y/n? y-you're okay now, you're safe-" jesper said kindly, reading out to touch your shoulder. you flinched and scrambled to your feet, swaying. the room felt like it was spinning. wylan, nina and jesper stood dumbfounded, unsure what to do. you backed into the wall and slid down, still unable to calm yourself, still trembling in fear. it was too much. it was all too much. tears were streaming down your face and you're breathing was still too quick.
someone entered the room, a cane tapping on the floor as they walked.
"are they awake?" he asked the room at large. no one said anything. "well?"
jesper looked over at you, shaking in the corner.
kaz looked at you, his expression unreadable.
"out." he said simply. when no one moved, he said it again, louder. "out!"
the three left, closing the door behind them. kaz limped towards you, and you knew what was coming. he was going to tell you you weren't cut out for this, and should go home. this only made you sob harder. this was your home now, these crows were your home.
kaz propped his cane against the wall and slowly knelt in front of you. you backed up against the wall further.
"it's okay." he said in an uncharacteristically soft voice. "i'm not going to touch you."
you calmed a bit, trying to ease your breathing.
"you're having a panic attack. you need to breathe." he said. his commanding voice got through to you and you felt your breathing slow.
"i-i'm sorry." you choked out. "i know you can't afford weakness on your team."
"you're right." he replied. "but you're only human. everyone panics after their first real injury."
"even you?"
kaz looked away, remembering his broken leg, and the pain that lasted from then until now, and the fear that spread through him for months after, making him feel weak and worthless. kaz was unsure why he felt so caring towards you at this meoment. maybe he saw a part of himself in you, or maybe it was the way his heart broke slightly after watching his y/n cry.
"yes. even me." he fumbled in his pocket for a moment, and drew out a blue, silk handkerchief. "may i?"
you nodded. his hand reached forward and he dabbed your cheeks, wiping away the tears. when he finished, he placed the handkerchief in your hand.
"you're not weak, y/n."
a silence fell over you two, but not an awkward one. just comfortable silence. kaz remained next to you, until you finally felt able to speak properly.
"thank you for staying with me." you said in a small voice. "what now?"
kaz thought for a moment. "a glass of whiskey. come on"
he stood up and held out a gloved hand to help you up. you wobbled slightly, but kaz's hand went to your waist and kept you steady, making your cheeks redden. kaz opened the door, where nina, wylan and jesper scrambled away from where they had clearly been listening.
"is y/n...?" jesper began timidly.
"they're fine. come on, we're getting drinks."
the five of you made you way downstairs to the bar, the silk handkerchief still clutched in your hand.

►Picnic Date
also on ao3
Tumblr media
Summary: You and your boyfriend Jack go on an impromptu picnic date. You probably shouldn’t be surprised that he worries about the ants on your blanket.
Inspired by this post
Word count: 853 :)
The past few weeks had been stressful for both you and your boyfriend Jack
First there had been the amount of essays from your second year psychology students you’d had to grade, then you’d gotten the flu and the amount of work you had to do had just piled on. Sure, Jack had made you tea and tried his best to cheer you up, but it was hard when he barely had time to be at home and you had to spend the dreary November days largely by yourself. His work had been hectic as of late and Brennan didn’t hesitate to ask him to work over most days.
Therefore, when you’d gotten on top of your work again, you’d decided an impromptu afternoon trip to Park Washington was the best course of action. The day was beautiful, the crisp autumn air refreshing.
When you’d met up with Jack at the Jeffersonian and hastily greeted his team you’d dragged him to the car park, eager to surprise him and spend the day away together.
You’d had the directions on your phone, careful not to disclose too much as you guided the way to the park. Of course, the ride was only 10 minutes but you wanted to keep the air of suspense.
As soon as the road started to be surrounded with trees he turned towards you for a moment, a tentative smile on his lips.
“We’re going hiking?”
You shook your head.
“Maybe another day! I was thinking we could do a picnic if you want?” You said, suddenly worried that it might’ve been an idea that only pleased you. “I made sandwiches before work today and I have coffee and cookies as well.”
“That sounds perfect, baby.” He pulled up to a parking spot and put the car in park as you reached your destination. “Do you want me to carry anything?”
“Yeah! If you take the blanket I’ll take the basket,” you said and opened the car door to take the basket that was in the backseat. “Do you remember the nice place we were last time?” He nodded. “I think that’s just a few minutes away.”
The two of you started following the gravel path toward the place you were talking about and soon enough the trees started scattering. The opening in the forest was pretty, the afternoon sun streaming in through the trees surrounding it.
There were a few other people there already, mostly families with kids. You looked around until Jack tugged a little on your hand.
“There?” He said, gesturing toward a spot on a small hill to the left.
“Yes, that’s perfect.”
-
You’d just finished your sandwich and Jack was on his second when you felt something tickling your foot. Anxiously, you looked down and saw two or three ants running around up towards your ankle. You swatted them away and cuddled closer to Jack, trying to get some of his body heat.
You closed your eyes, breathing in his scent as he laid is arm around you, pulling you even closer.
Soon enough, though, it became impossible to ignore the continued tickling on your leg.
“I’m pretty sure there’s ants running all over this, Jack,” you mumbled against his shoulder, a little worriedly. You weren’t afraid of insects, per say, but you were also not the biggest fan. “Could we just shake them off really quickly?”
“Of course,” he comforted you, carefully disentangling himself from you as he stood up and moved the basket from the blanket.
You followed his lead, grabbing one corner of the blanket as he grabbed the other,
“If you’re a bug just be careful, okay?” Jack said, looking at the picnic blanket. He looked so cute like this, curls all tousled and a flush on his cheeks. The worried look in his eyes as he warned the eventual bugs didn’t hurt either.
“I didn’t know you were such an advocate for ants, baby,” you said with a smile.
“Maybe I can make an exception for these ones.” He grinned and shook the blanket once. You almost lost your balance with the force of it and his grin grew larger.
When the two of you had rustled it enough times that you were positive any possible insects had fallen off you laid down on your back.
Jack laid down next to you, your shoulders brushing, and you took the hand closest to yours in yours.
“Let’s hope the ants don’t carry a grudge for this.” You said, still looking up at the sky.
He chuckled and you turned your head towards him. He looked so happy and careless like this. You’d known he’d been stressed lately but you nothing could’ve prepared you for the difference his laugh made. You wished you could bottle it up, somehow, and save it for all those days when everything felt just a little hopeless.
“They’ll have a vendetta for three days for sure. Maybe they’ll have time to build a machine to conquer us with,” he joked.
“Oh my god, imagine!”
“That’d be pretty crazy.”
“Yeah it would,” you agreed, nuzzling into his side.
