I enjoyed making and running this tourney. There were many fumbles and tears since this was my first ever tumblr tourney, I seriously bit off more than I could chew. But regardless, almost 7 months later, I did it, I finished the tournament.

Is there going to be a season 2 of The Element Specific Character Tournament? No sorry, I don't plan on revisiting this specific tournament ever again. Good news though is that I grant my permission for someone else to do. So if anyone wants to take up the mantle of tesct, go ahead!

Why did you start making tournaments and why this idea? I saw a bunch of people making tournaments and I thought it would be fun. I didn't see anyone running a full on element tournament. Yeah there were tournaments dedicated to individual elements and such, but not to the extent I went.

What is your main? @analog-kidd I draw sometimes, make dashboard sims sometimes, and make uquizes sometimes, but I mostly reblog stuff I like. (btw go do this uquiz I made awhile ago, I put a lot of effort into it).

Chapter 31- Shopping

"Can we go to the High Market?" Ed asked hopefully as he bounced into the passenger seat of Roy's car.

"Brother. That place is crawling with sketchy people." Al admonished from where he was settling into the entire backseat of the car.

"We aren't going anywhere until you two put on your seatbelts." Roy admonished, shooting a glance over at both boys witheringly.

There was clanking from the backseat as Alphonse hurried to comply.

Ed blew out a breath and rolled his eyes.

"I don't see why I gotta wear a seat belt. My automail can't be broken. And Al's a suit of armor- nothing can hurt him!"

"No, but Alphonse could hurt us. If there was a crash and Al were to get thrown forward, we could be hurt. And you might have automail, Ed, but you're not invincible."

Ed crossed his arms. "It's stupid. Don't tell me what to do."

"Oh, so you think I'm being bossy, huh?" Roy asked.

"Ed, just put it on." Al piped up from the backseat. There was a click. Al was too large to fit the middle seat seat belt, so he had taken 2 seat belts from either side of the backseat and fastened them both over himself in an x-like fashion.

"I'm tired of old people trying to tell us what to do, Al!" Ed protested.

"It's for your own good, you know." Roy supplied patiently. "Seatbelts reduce the risk of death by 45% and cut the risk of serious injury to 50%(1). They also hold you in place so you don't get ejected in a crash. 3 of 4 people who get ejected from a vehicle don't survive(1). You wouldn't want to do that to Al, would you?"

Ed was silent.

"Remember that car crash was saw in Bresh, brother?" Al added. "We couldn't do anything to help. Everyone was gone. All we could do was cover up the mess with blankets so that the teenager's families wouldn't see them. Maybe if they'd been wearing seat belts it'd have been different."

Ed clicked his seatbelt into place. "Fine, whatever. Let's get going we have shopping to do."

Roy turned the key in the ignition and started out.

"So- does anyone want anything specific from the store?" Roy asked.

"Waffles." Ed said happily. "And soft pretzels."

"Scented candles." Al added.

"You're gonna polish yourself with that flowery smelling wax again aren't you?" Ed spoke up.

"It's the closest thing I can get to deodorant, brother." Al sounded slightly hurt.

"I know. Get some of those cucumber melon candles-I like the smell of those." Ed said quietly.

"Okay." Al brightened significantly.

"I wanna go to the High Market too." Ed piped up, looking over at Roy.

"For what?" Roy was wary. The high market sold useful things, but it was also a backdoor apothecary that sold unregulated pharmaceuticals and other odd, possibly illegal substances in the alley under the guise of traditional medicine.

"They got those cookies that have your future written inside them!" Ed looked childish with excitement.

"You need a cookie to tell you that?" Roy scoffed. "I could tell you for free. 'you will be short and miserable'."

Al sniggered from the backseat and Ed frowned. "Normally I would yell at you for that, but I wanna go to the High Market. So can we go?"

"Yes. IF you two stay close to me and we don't take long."

"Score!" Ed pumped his fist in the air, looking excited.

"What do you want to get shopping, Colonel?" Al asked.

Mustang shrugged. "Trash bags, milk, butter, eggs, bread, jam."

"Boring stuff." Ed added.

Roy pulled into the shopping center. "You say that, but I don't see you complaining when we eat dinner."

"Can we get Mac n' cheese?"

"Yes, we can get a few boxes."

"Can we get frozen burritos and ramen?"

Roy wrinkled his nose. Ever since Ed moved in with them, he'd realized the kid seemed to live off microwaved food.

"Yes, a couple. But you need to eat a vegetable every once in awhile." he got out of the car, and Ed did the same.

"Well excuse me for being too busy to go harvest nature's bounty." Ed scoffed.

"Guys!" Al called from the back, muffled by the car doors.

"What's up, Al?" Roy turned around to see Al still strapped into the back seat, his large hands struggling with the seatbelts.

"Can you unbuckle me? I'm stuck!?"

LINEBREAK LINEBREAK LINEBREAK LINEBREAK LINEBREAK

"Okay, this actually isn't so bad." Roy had his list nearly halfway completed. Ed insisted on standing on the bottom rack of the cart and holding onto the back to ride it, but Al was pushing, so Roy couldn't complain. And Al was tall enough to reach everything on the top shelf.

"Ed- name something that isn't microwaved that you'll eat."

"Peanut butter sandwhich."

"Done." Roy grabbed a jar of peanut butter off the shelf and tossed it into the cart.

"Fruits and vegetables you like?"

"Fruitsnacks!" Ed looked excited, pointing at a large box. "Those are the best, Mom used to get those for me!"

"Yeah I remember those." Al sounded excited as well.

It melted Roy's resolve. Just a little. He picked up the box. It said it was amde with real fruit juice. That was close enough to a fruit, wasn't it? If Trisha Elric had bought them for the boys, they couldn't be horrible.

"Okay. Fine. But REAL fruits, now."

"I don't have time for real fruits. I'm constantly running around to headquarters or the library." Ed complained.

Roy couldn’t argue with the kid. He was pretty busy. But still, that wasn't an excuse to live out of vending machines.

"Alright, so how about a grab and go snack. You like applesauce?"

"Yeah."

Roy snagged a box of applesauce pouches and threw it into the cart, then kept going. He just had to make sure Ed didn't realize they gave those applesauce pouches to toddlers commonly. Because he doubted Ed would care enough to grab a spoon or a more traditional applesauce cup.

"What about yogurt?" Roy asked.

Ed narrowed his eyes. "Milk." he groused from where he was holding onto the cart.

"Cheese sticks?" Roy held up the package enticingly.

"Okay." Ed acquiesced. "It doesn't taste like milk."

They were just about done shopping- the only thing left was to get coffee.

Roy started off towards the aisle but stopped when he realized Al wasn't following pushing the cart.

The boy was looking at a duster in the cleaning aisle. "Throw it in the cart, Al. I'll dust your armor off tonight if you want." he said. Al couldn't really eat, but it wasn't fair to exclude the boy from shopping.

"Thank you!"

"It's nothing. Let's get going. I want to hit the yellow market before it gets too late.".

It got dark early in the fall. So even though it was only a little after 5, dusk was setting in on the city as he and the boys parked alongside the street in the nicer part of town and walked towards the yellow market.

Ed had an excited bounce in his step at the prospect of fortune cookies, and Al was hoping to find stray cats.

The warm glow of streetlights faded as they entered the rougher neighborhood of town- a block or so was dark, before the hanging string lights and colorful candle lanterns lit up the street.

The barren streets of central melted into a new landscape of men shouting about wares in a Xingese tongue. Men with cone-shaped hates and women in flowing garb, as well as children and stray dogs ran though the streets, adding to the commotion and the smells and sights of the market.

People were selling vibrant flowers, roast seafood on sticks, and a variety of meat and pastries.

One market stall had a variety of little animals made of colored paper, and Alphonse stopped to look.

The children stopped running and playing with their sticks and hoops when they saw Edward and stared, whispering among themselves.

Roy wondered if they recognized him as the Fullmetal Alchemist or not. Normally children were enthralled by Alphonse and his armor, not Edward...

A cold wind blew, rustling the paper lanterns and scattering the children. They took off down various alleyways and down the street.

It unnerved Roy, for some reason.

Ed had found the shop he was looking for- an old woman selling the cookies he wanted.

She shakily bagged them up for him and they chatted as he got out his money to pay her.

Alphonse squatted to set a stray cat near the mouth of an alley.

The quiet suddenly struck Roy as odd. The market callers had stopped shouting about their wares and people had stopped chattering. Mothers took their children and went to other stalls further away from them.

A woman ran into Roy and fell, scattering her things on the ground.

"Sorry!" she exclaimed, her angular Xingese eyes drawing him in.

"No, not a problem at all." Roy bent to help her pick up her scattered items, though he couldn't stop the hairs of unease form standing up on the back of his neck.

As they both picked up the fallen items from the ground, the woman leaned closer to him, eyes wide. "You must leave now. They will come for the boy. Men offer lot of money for him. Children go get men- they take boy."

Roy froze for a moment, before he nodded, handing her one of the items he'd been picked up and straightening.

"Edward! Al!"

Ed had paid for his cookies- the old woman at the shop had somehow given him a large stick of candy as well and was patting him on the head.

"What?" Ed asked, looking annoyed at the interruption.

"We're going. Now." his voice left no room for argument, and Ed fell into step beside him and Al as they headed back the way they came.

"But we just got here." Ed complained.

"You got your cookies. Now let's go."

He couldn't shake the feeling they were being watched, though they got home that night without incident.

Yes- I know that in cannon the year is like 1920. I just like to imagine Roy taking his boys to walmart. I don’t know why, but it’s a balm for my soul.

Franchise: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Part 4

This was a silence Ed found a great comfort in, staring at a familiar ceiling and the hearing the familiar clinks and cranks of Winry fixing his automail arm.

He actually quite reveled in the peace of this moment, this calm before the storm he knew was coming, the Promised Day that meant more and more arduous battles which, at times, he could only hope to survive.

He looked to his right at Winry, who wore her dark goggles and didn’t seem to notice in the slightest that Edward Elric was looking at her. She continued with her work like the determined busybody she was, fixing every mechanism of the arm Ed relied on until it was as perfect as she could make it. Winry had a habit of muttering while she worked, this or that about how Ed was so irresponsible to make something go out of alignment or how he fought too hard and strained the mechanism to much, or how a blow could have possible been made here, or how in the world he got a scratch there.

Ed couldn’t help but look at Winry with a thankfulness and warmth in his heart, and he was beginning to know what exactly that meant. In the heat of battle he had the opportunity to perhaps set it aside but here and now in the quietude of this moment, he couldn’t deny that he had fallen in love with his automail mechanic.

His eyes changed from a burning sun of deep admiration to a dull yellow of sadness, thinking of the danger that this country was to face. Although he would try his best to circumvent such a large scale amount of destruction, he feared for everyone. And yet his fear for Winry was different, and he felt terribly guilty for the distinction.

Losing the world would certainly be a tragedy, with is why Ed was determined, in his very soul and his very mind to save it. And yet, in Ed’s heart, the thought of losing Winry seemed more the end of the world than anything else.

In her left hand she held a screwdriver, and was twisting a screw tighter. In her right hand, however, she loosely held a circle=shaped wrench, positioned, however accidentally, as if she were offering it to Ed.

He remembered the last time he pulled her close in such a way, to whisper to her his distrust of the people around them at Briggs. 

And yet this time he had nothing planned to whisper as he submitted once again to the instinct, curling his index finger around the hole in the wrench. He tugged only slightly before Winry looked up from her work. She let go of the screwdriver in her left hand and allowed herself in lean in further, waiting for what Ed had to say with parted lips and curious eyes.

He attempted the move his arm in order to pull her closer by the back of her head, and yet something she had done to it made it so that he couldn’t move it while it was being fixed.

However, Winry seemed to understand what it was Ed desired from her, because she desired it as well.

Leaning down, she slowly but surely pressed a long-anticipated first kiss onto Ed’s lips. Her eyes fluttered open as she parted, seeing Ed with a great red blush streaking across his cheeks.

Yet instead of getting mad at Winry for daring to be so forward and thus cause him into such a vulnerable state, he let go of the wrench completely and with his left hand pulled her into a deeper, much more passionate kiss. The exploration lasted longer than expected and yet Winry did not withdraw to complain in the slightest, continuing the exchange with just as much urgency as Ed.

She placed her hand near the bottom of his ribs and yet furrowed her brow at what she felt instead of smooth skin. It was patterned with very small lines, much like that of something that had been transmuted. Winry rescinded from Ed’s lips to look at it, lifting the bottom of his black tank top.

“Ed?” She asked. “What is this?”

Ed had returned his gaze to the ceiling with a sigh.

“It’s nothing.”

“It certainly is not nothing!” Winry said, standing up and getting frustrated at his cavalier attitude. She placed her hands on her hips. “You transmuted to stop the bleeding, didn’t you? That’s why there’s still a scar! What happened?!”

“It was just a metal beam,” Ed said casually. “I may have been lightly impaled by it but it’s no big deal.”

“Ed!” Winry exclaimed. “You got impaled?! What is wrong with you? You could have died!”

“Lightly impaled,” Ed reminded her.

“Oh right excuse me, lightly impaled.” Winry said with thrown hands. “I apologize for the error.”

Winry sat back down on the chair at Ed’s bedside, where not five minutes ago, she was servicing Ed’s automail.

“I need you to be more careful,” Winry said quietly, picking up the wrench and the screwdriver and holding them in her hands, staring down at them as she spun them around each other. “I know all that you do is important, but so are you. I just want you to be less reckless. These aren’t just scrapes on your knee from falling out of a tree, these are real, life-threatening injuries and someday you’ll run out of miracles if you’re not careful.”

“I know,” Ed replied simply.

Winry returned to servicing Ed’s automail and yet this silence struck fear in Ed’s heart, a foreboding dread of the Promised Day to come. What if his plan to do everything he can to prevent such rampant destruction still wasn’t enough?

“I promise I’ll try my best,” Ed said, staring at the ceiling. “To be less reckless I mean. I can’t let my guard down. There’s too much at stake.”

“And you’ll come back without a scrape?” Winry asked.

Ed grinned.

“I want to.”

His smile faded and so did his golden eyes.

“I promise I want to.”

That seemed to be enough for Winry, nodding as she finished with Ed’s arm, picking up her tools and heading over to her desk on the other side of the room. She decided to alleviate the blanket of sadness and worry that had covered the room and instead recount to Ed all that happened since they last saw each other, since their hurried separation when Winry gave Ed her earrings for safekeeping.

“Is that right? Liore is getting back on it’s feet?”

10. April is a mutant (TMNT 2012)

In this incarnation of TMNT, the turtles fight the evil Kraang. Their main target is April O'Neil. The reasons why have been kept vague until it is revealed that she herself is a mutant! Not any mutant but a combination of Kraang and human DNA.

9. The Philosopher Stone is made out of People (Fullmetal Alchemist series)

Brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric committed the ultimate taboo and attempted to bring back their deceased mother. However, in the process Ed lost his arm and leg while Alphonse lost his body and became a soul bound to a suit of armor. The brothers came to believe that only the philosopher stone, who is said to hold unlimited alcchemic potential, was the only way to get their bodies back to normal. That dream is shattered when they learn that the stone is made by killing thousands of people.

8. The Author was Stan's Twin Brother (Gravity Falls)

Gravity Falls is a town that holds many secrets. During their summer visiting their great uncle Stan, Dipper and Mabel discover a mysterious book that holds the secrets that lie beneath Gravity Falls. A major theme throughout this show is "who is the author" the mystery twins encounter many strang things in their quest to find out who they are. Only to have it revealed that Stan's brother was the author.

7. Chad is still in the KND (Codename Kids Nextdoor)

In the beginning of this series, Chad or #274, was the leader of the KND. Until his 13th birthday, when he betrayed them. Throughout the series Chad joins the KNDs nemesis, the teenagers, and takes a part in their plots to destroy the KND. However, when #1 is given a chance to take him out, Chad reveals that he never left the KND and was working as a spy.

6. Grandpa Max was a Plumber (Ben 10)

Ben 10 tells the story of ten year old Ben Tennyson who is on summer vacation with is grandfather and cousin, traveling the U.S in an old RV. On the first night Ben finds the Omnitrex, a device that allows him to transform into different aliens.

By the end of the first season Max reveals that he was a Plumber, an intergalactic police officer, and had know the whole time what the Omnitrex was and the Aliens Ben transformed into. While not a huge twist (the series would have some bigger ones as it continued) it was still a shock to learn that Max knew what was going on the whole time.

5. Rose betrayed the Huntsclan (American Dragon: Jake Long)

Dragon Jake Long fell in love with a member of The Huntsclan, Rose or Huntsgirl. However, she in turn fell in love with Jake not knowing that he was a dragon. Rose gets the chance to kill Jake, if she does she will become a full fledged member, but Jake shows her his human face. In turn she lets him go and runs away.

During the second season, the Huntsclan attemp to destroy every magical creature by using mythical skulls that grant anyone who brings them together a perfect wish (Think the dragonballs). In the last moment she strikes down her master and instead wishes for the destruction of the Huntsclan, knowing that that will include her.

4. Rose Quortz was Pink Diamond (Steven Universe)

Many believed that Rose Quortz, the leader of the resistance and mother of Steven, had shattered Pink Diamond, one of the heads of the Gems. However it is revealed in season 5 that she WAS pink diamond and had faked her own death to protect the Earth.

3. Nagisa's blood lust came from his mother (Assassination Classroom)

Class 3E is the bottom of society, but they have been given the chance of a lifetime. A being who can move at mock 20 says that he will destroy the Earth in one year, unless one of them can Assassinate him. He takes on the role of their homeroom teacher to better prepare them.

Out of all the students in 3E, Nagisa Shoita was the lest impressive. He was small, weak, and looked more feminine than his female classmates. Yet, Nagisa has the national talent of an assassin. He managed to get the drop on their gym teacher, a man who is skilled in many fighting styles, and took down an ex military officer (twice). He has surprised his classmates with his abilities, feom getting the drop on top assassins, including their homeroom teacher, to installing fear with just a glare.

However, this came at a price. His mother is abusive beyond reason. She forces Nagisa to grow his hair long, makes him wear dresses and other feminine clothing. On several occasions she has bashed his head into solid objects. She is unpredictable, forcing Nagisa to do what all children in that situation do, learn to control his emotions and read the thoughts of others. This woman created a viper.

2. Eric Cartman and Scott Tenerman are brothers (South Park)

Cartmans mom has always been loose. The identity of her son's father was likely going to stay a mystery. But during the second episode of season 2 we get our answer (kinda). The answer was given now we could move on.

In a later episode Cartman gets scammed and humiliated by Scott Tenerman, an older teenager. So, Cartman devises a scheme. In the end Scotts parents are dead and eaten in some chille.

Many seasons later its revealed that Scott's Father and Eric's are one and the same. Ms. Cartman amd the town had lied about his identity in order to protect his public image. Thus Cartman killed his own father.

1. Zak Saturday is Kur (The Secret Saturdays)

From the beginning I knew this would be number one.

The Secret Saturdays is about a family of scientists who study crypteds, or strange creatures with unique abilities. The most dangerous was Kur, a creature said to have the power to raise a crypted army and take over the world. Zak has the ability to manipulate crypteds leaving him and his family to believe that shoukd Kur be unleashed onto the world, Zaks power woukd be the only thing that coukd stop it.

At the end of season 1, the truth is revealed that Zak IS Kur.

The entire first season is dedicated to finding Kur and talking about how dangerous he is. Then it turns out that it's Zak, a 12 year old boy with a kind heart. I cannot describe how shocked I was, then having to wait years to find out the outcome (we moved around alot) killed me.
