Book Blurb: The villagers of Greymist Fair know that the woods are a dangerous and magical place, and that they should never set foot off the road. But when a young tailor discovers a body, her search for the culprit reveals even more strange and dark happenings around her town.
From acclaimed author Francesca Zappia, Greymist Fair is a suspenseful and inventive murder-mystery infused with magic and inspired by the lesser-known fairytales of the Brothers Grimm. Two roads lead into a dark forest. They meet at Greymist Fair, the village hidden in the trees, a place kept alive by the families that never leave. The people of Greymist Fair know the woods are a dangerous and magical place, and to set foot off the road is to invite trouble. When Heike, the village’s young tailor, discovers a body on the road, she goes looking for who is responsible. But her quest only leads to more strange happenings around Greymist Fair.Inspired by the original, bloody, lesser-known fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, acclaimed author Francesca Zappia crafts an enthralling murder-mystery that will keep readers turning the pages. Told from multiple points of view, with each narrative building on the crime discovered by Heike, Greymist Fair examines the themes of childhood fears, growing into adult responsibilities, and finding a place to call home amid the trials of life and death.Features chapter decorations by the author throughout, as well as a map.
Review:
In a village in the woods... the people live in fear of Death that surrounds them. In this village everyone knows that the woods are dangerous and that if you enter them you’ll likely be killed by the witch who lives there. When a young tailor Heike discovers a body on the road she decides to figure who is responsible, and on her quest to find out who is responsible and what is happening to her town the more she’ll be embroiled in magic, mystery, and death. This was such a fun and great read, it is a magical story inspired by the lesser-known fairytales of the brothers Grimm and definitely is perfect for people who love to read fairytales, the story is told in such a unique way. The story is told in parts and through different characters perspective, both past and present, and it all connects, and there is an element of magic to all of them. This is the perfect read for fairytale lovers who enjoy a bit of mystery too!
*Thanks Netgalley and HarperCollins Children's Books, Greenwillow Books for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Sleeping Beauty (1959) turned 65, and it remains still such a beautiful film. It's one of my favourite quintessential fantasy films, and I adore princess Aurora and Maleficent!

YOU'RE TELLING ME
THE TITLE CARD FROM CINDERELLA (1950) EXPLICITLY SAYS IT'S BASED ON THE PERRAULT VERSION OF THE STORY???
WE COULD HAVE AVOIDED ALL THE SANCTIMONIOUS EDGELORDS SMARMING ABOUT HOW "well Disney toned it down; the One True Grimms' Original akschully has blood and no fairy and feet getting cut up, so there" IF THEY HAD JUST
BOTHERED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE MOVIE AND THEN GOOGLE "PERRAULT CINDERELLA???"
excuse me I need to go scream into a pillow
(I'm not saying Ashenputtel isn't possibly older as a folktale than its 1812 publication date in the Grimms' book, but Perrault's version was published in the 1690s. so...)

Here's how to write an authentic Grimm style fairytale, brought to you by a Certified German TM:
Forget everything Disney movies taught you, besides maybe Snowwhite, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. But even those are on thin fucking ice. Also ignore modern fantasy literature conventions, especially Dungeons & Dragons type stuff.
Ideally only the protagonist or none of the characters ought to have names. And the names should either be really fucking ordinary, or some kind of epithet. Like, either that's a Franz or a Bramblesock, cause when Bramblesock was a child he lost a sock in a shrub of brambles. Everyone else is either the king, the grandma, or the carpenter.
The common types of protagonist: Regular working class guy who cons his way into a life of riches, poor downtrodden peasant who through hardworking kindness is granted salvation (usually via gaining riches), too pure too good for this world princess who can't catch a fucking break, too nasty too bratty for this world princess who gets taught a lesson in humility.
The characters are generally very one note and the only kind of character growth they can experience boils down to "maybe I shouldn't have been a dick, huh?"
The location is either as vague as possible or super fucking specific for no reason; either the story takes place literally nowhere or in the town of Buxtehude.
Animals and inanimate objects that can talk for no apparent reason and no one bats an eye at are always a great addition.
If you want to add any fantasy races, use giants (large, dumb brutes), dwarves (angry little guys who live in the wilderness and get really angry if you touch their beards), or gnomes (mischievous house spirits who might be helpful but watch out!), but never more than one of these. Fairies are rare and usually the "tall beautiful wise woman" type, not the small annoying pixie type. Dragons are very pointedly no-where to be found, those distinctly belong in sagas, which are their own distinct type of literature.
Weird moral of the story that either boils down to "be smarter than all the other fuckers", "good things happen to good people, bad things happen to bad people", or "don't upset the supernatural".
Random tidbits of gore that no one bats an eye at.
Witches eat children, if a mother gets more than single line dedicated to her she's evil, fathers are spineless and/or assholes who either die or come around in the end.
Ugly means evil, pretty means good. Except when it doesn't.
Optional: Repeated rhyming phrases and numbers. Seventh son of a seventh son kinda stuff. The numbers 3, 7, 12, and 13 in particular.
Ideally a 19th century scholar should be able to read some clumsy Germanic pagan wishful thinking into the story, no matter how big and obvious the Christian overtones are.
Optional: Start the story with "Once upon a time" and end it with "And if they didn't die, then they are still alive today."

The Sims 4: The Little Mermaid Part 2
Tumblr media
Ursula bumped into Ariel and at that instant knew who she was. Ariel was her only link to her sister, Athena, as she had been searching for her ever since their father died. Ursula decided to help Ariel and investigate what had happened to her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Queen Regent Gayla and a mystery man, known as Prince Eric, argued because Gayla wanted Eric to marry a royal princess. However, Eric begged his mother to give him a chance to find the woman who saved him and marry her. After some protest, his mother caved in and allowed the search.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ariel was unable to speak, and Prince Eric was unaware of her condition. Despite her muteness, Ariel provided comfort to Eric, and he was glad to find a friend in her. He promised to find a solution to her muteness. At the same time, Ursula was searching for answers to help Ariel in her endeavors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nine months have passed, and still no true love's kiss. Ariel is scared that her deadline is almost up. One day, Prince Eric arrived from his tour of the kingdom and went to his mother, stating that he found the woman who saved him. Unbeknownst to his mother, he was under a spell forcing him to listen to the commands of this mystery woman. Ariel was distraught and upset. She left, bumping into Ursula from her journey, and it was there that Ursula confessed who she was and that she knows who was behind Ariel's second curse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ursula was able to defeat the mysterious woman with her magic and obtain a confession that Ursula's mother, Carina, was behind everything because she wanted the throne for her daughter. Ursula attempted to restrain the woman, but she was able to escape."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ursula united Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, and they had their true love's kiss, breaking both curses. Ursula explained Ariel's origin, the curses, Lady Carina, and the events that occurred. Ariel forgave Ursula, but Ursula received the bad news that Athena and her other nieces were lost.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ariel went to the ocean to inform her father of everything. At first, he was upset, but then overjoyed that the curse placed on him and his family was broken.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prince Eric and Ursula bowed to King Triton out of respect, and King Triton agreed to the union of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel to unite the kingdom and bring about peace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5 years later, Arial and Prince Eric got married at the age of 20. Nine months later, she was due to give birth to their first child. However, unexpected news reached the palace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Princess Arial's maternal grandfather, Duke Gael Tolman, approached her with troubling news. He informed her that Lady Carina, Ursula mother, was expecting a child after a relationship with Arial's uncle. This revelation deeply upset Princess Arial and Prince Eric, who is now the King and Queen. In order to maintain peace within the royal family, Duke Tolman suggested that the children of Arial and Carina should be wed in marriage. In return, Carina would disclose the whereabouts of Arial's missing sisters and mother, of whom Carina was aware. Arial had no other choice but to accept the arrangement in order to finally locate her missing family. Both King Triton and King Eric agreed to this proposal.

A month later, Queen Arial gave birth to her daughter Melody.
Tumblr media
Carina gave to her son Lord Leo.
Will this be a happy union or will it cause more chaos in the family?
Will Arial find her sisters alive or in unhappy situcation?
Will be see in the future! To Be continue.
