the time travel fix-its are it for me. having the characters i love look back and say "i made a mistake" and then doing better, is a weakness of mine

Darla/Angelus is also great because the show has a competing designated OTP and they exist to serve as contrast and hateful competition to THE ship. they are soulless monsters even by the standards of soulless monsters, they literally make the other soulless monsters go "yikes... your relationship seems not good maybe." but they love each other so fucking much. the writers can't help it. they are constantly trying to find their way back to each other. the way she hits him over a head with a shovel and leaves him to an angry mob while he tries to say he doesn't mind dying if it's with her AND the way they coo about it to each other afterwards. the way she takes him back against her better judgement because she missed him so so much but then kicks him out again later because he still can't be who she needs him to be. that's just how they say i love you.

saw someone say in the tags of a gifset that buffy and willow are the most important relationship in the show "to me". and i'm here to tell this person that it's not just you babe. they literally are the most important relationship in the show. it's the first relationship buffy establishes with anyone in sunnydale. in prophecy girl, she goes to fight the master after she sees how upset willow is. i need to reiterate that; buffy is full-on willing to die for willow, at the end of season 1, after knowing her for maybe four months. willow is the one who resurrects buffy because she literally can't live without her. and then whenever they're in conflict it becomes the season long arc (see seasons 4 and 6). willow and buffy working together is what changes the slayer line forever.
they are the show.

and the thing is when you think about dawn is so much like buffy….buffy knows exactly what it’s like to be 14 years old to be told you’re part of some larger purpose and to feel out of control of your own life. she might not be sisters with dawn by birth but they are sisters in understanding, in their circumstances. when she said dawn is made from her she meant it. and buffy gave up her whole life, all of her teenage years to save the world and yet. her gift is death. at the end of all that what she gets is to die. to have the burden lifted. and she stills gives it back, she uses it so that dawn can live the life that she never got to have. she was always going to die saving the world. it’s not even the first time it happened to her. but the thing that made it matter to her, what made it worth it was for dawn. for the girl she never got to be.

God Buffy is pissing me off!!! Ooooo Spike is so bad oooo a vampire a demon A THING(!!!) I shouldn't want to fuck him mee-mee-mee
Like, bitch?? He's hot, get over it!
Also the fact that at the beginning of season 6 she was all buddy-buddy with him and then randomly started behaving like an asshole makes no! damn! sense!
As a side note: this rant isn't about me being upset on spike's behalf because he bewitched me body and soul in fact it's not about him at all. It's about me not understanding Buffy and her motives because the writing is kind of strange and silly. It doesn’t really match her character development imo? I feel like at this point she should be a bit more mature🤷♀️

I decided to rewatch Buffy's 'Once More With Feeling' and then the very end of 'Smashed' and I'm gonna say it: Buffy & Spike's first kiss and sex scene still work incredibly well. His absolutely gone look, the way she's shocked at herself and then clearly into it, both times. Her leading both times. The snarking/violence as foreplay. Whatever their relationship became in season 6, it sure started off exactly as I would have imagined it given all that had come before.
