what do the more militaristic autobots (like Prowl) think of our Forrest and his avoidance of the war? given the existing hostility between the autobots and neutrals in the IDW comics, i feel like there might be some tension >:3

The twig is because if a moth is wedged in an awkward corner of the trap, it's safer to persuade it onto a pencil or twig or summat. Avoids touching their delicate wings. Also gives you a good view of their fluffy trousers.
