So, I’ve been playing A LOT of Fallout New Vegas. Over the weekend I was gifted a pair of grass spiders from Nevada, so I clearly had to give them New Vegas names... so, meet Boone and Carla (I’m a monster). Can we all take a moment to appreciate that Boone immediately started webbing up at the TOP of his cage? You guys, he made a a sniper tower. Boone made a sniper tower to snipe crickets from. I can’t stop laughing and my husband is looking at me like I’m insane because he refuses to play New Vegas and doesn’t get it. Meanwhile, I’m dying. I need to get out more.

I doodled this back in 2013, and am finally making it a reality... only, I’m getting a tad carried away and my project has grown a bit. The final piece will be unveiled at next year’s Bug Fair, but I’ll share my progress along the way. It’s fascinating how much variation in personality there is within a single spider species. I have some Phidippus regius who are very high strung, and who apparently think my hands are disgusting and bounce off them the second the come in contact with my skin. Then I have spiders like this girl, who is extremely calm and curious. Most seem to fall somewhere in between. I love them all to bits. Flower got a fancy new enclosure today with tons of hiding places to choose from. Hopefully that makes her less kicky. And if it doesn’t, I will accept her for the spaz she is. I’d just hate to see her completely bald again. She’s so pretty! On the plus side, rehousing went surprisingly well and it turns out she’s actually quite calm with handling.
