gotta love how christians on tumblr will see us being like 'I would fight god in a parking lot' 'christianity ruined my life' '*extensive post about all the ways the church traumatized you*' and think 'wow surely these people seem like people who would love to hear about christ. it really seems like if i say "god loves you" or, worse, if i offend them and tell them to repent they WILL convert'. like, my guy, what's not clicking here.
my weird ass special education teacher was lecturing about autism today and prefaced the lecture with a disclaimer about how there's no proof that vaccines cause autism which is TRUE but he did it in such a way that was like. weirdly centrist? like, wakefield was a fraud who sold out for money, and his ""experiment"" had the smallest sample size you could possibly imagine. the journal he published the article in has since retracted it. there have been multiple attempts to replicate his results with bigger sample sizes to no success. not to mention, vaccines save lives. every single day, they save lives. my professor mentioned none of that and was like "maybe in 5 years the science will change and i'll tell you something different" like hello? yes science is constantly evolving, but to treat scientific FACTS like a controversial topic is honestly part of the problem!!! he was so spineless about it and it pisses me off so bad like, just say the facts! wakefield was wrong! vaccines don't cause autism! none of that wishy-washy shit, we're in COLLEGE and you're a professor. what are you DOINGGGG
I just wish death wasn't such an absolute taboo in our society.
My grandmother died unexpectedly. But, really? Did she really??
Once upon a time, a passer-by helped Death up when he'd fallen down alongside the road. To thank him, Death promised not to come unannounced, but to send a messenger ahead of him. Death sent illness, and fewer, and old age and grey hairs and aching joints. The man didn't recognize any of these as the promised messenger, and was genuinely shocked when Death showed up at his doorstep.
My grandmother died unexpectedly. She was old, and getting noticeably weaker for years now. The last two weeks, she could barely move her arms for pain in her shoulders. Eventually, she had to call a relative for help, who called a doctor, who called an ambulance to take her to the emergency. The next day, she died of heart failure. Unexpectedly.
She was, by a complete coincidence that we definitely won't need to worry about, almost exactly the same age as her father, when he died of sudden heart failure. Funny thing, these coincidences.
My grandfather also died unexpectedly. He had Parkinson's, and wasn't able to move much those last years. Just before his death, my mother took him to the hospital for a check-up, and left him there, then came back here where we live. According to my sister, she cried when she left my grandparents' city. At that time, we visited three times a year, so she knew perfectly well that she would be back in three months' time. Why would she cry? But no, my grandfather died unexpectedly.
The next one to go will be my aunt. It is pretty clear, has been pretty clear since she was diagnosed with cancer last year. We could, theoretically, like, prepare for it. But no, because you can't talk about death, so we can't even mention it unless I'm alone with my father.
"Thank you for helping me," said Death. "As a thanks, I will not come unannounced, but will send a messenger."
"That is a fine thing," said the man. "That way, I won't have to worry about you hiding behind every tree."
And if I say any of this out loud, then I'm an unforgivable asshole.
/ If u deal with g.il u have to know that u will be constantly threading through the thin line between him deciding that u will die by his hands or u proving him that there’s something of worth in having u around
Hey, I just saw your most recent post and am curious about the irrelevant part - what do you mean by the ''religions abstaining from pork because it was unsafe to eat at the time'' thing? I've never heard that before and I am genuinely intrigued to know about it.
Hi !! There's a lot of religious rituals and rules that people continue today out of tradition and respect that were started (or thought to have been started) for safety/health reasons, with one big one being how meat can be handled and what meat is safe to consume! Pork is the main one that I know of since I have some friends that keep kosher or only eat halal meats
Essentially, pigs are honestly pretty gross animals if you let them be. They're opportunistic omnivores, so they'll essentially eat whatever they can get their teeth on. That includes rotting/spoiled food, fecal matter, and even people if they sit still long enough. Pigs can also carry some gnarly diseases that can easily be passed on to people. It's why you'll often hear people refer to them as "unclean" in both a religious and hygienic sense, despite their cleanliness on the outside. You might not know what Trichinella parasites are, but if your cousin shits himself to death after eating porkchops, you're gonna assume that's a sign from someone above not to eat anymore pigs
We now have modern medicine, biologists, food scientists, meat storage/serving regulations, etc. etc. that have made the risk of catching anything from pork less than minimal as long as you store and cook it properly and there hasn't been a new outbreak of something. A lot of people keep the tradition out of respect for their ancestors/culture. A lot of people also keep it because they know that pigs are still kinda gross, even with modern interventions. I've met people that no longer follow pig-based rules at all, while others adjust it so they're only eating pork if they know where it came from and what that pig ate from birth to bacon
Basically, eating a pig before the creation of antibiotics and vaccines was the peak form of fucking around and finding out. Whether you found out because of salmonella or the wrath of every deity out there (or both!) is up to you
Lilith the soul member an president of the newspaper club takes every request for stories she gets very seriously. one such request is to look into the 7 wonders of the school.
Mysterious shadow of a horned man who wonders threw ramshackle at night.

Rumor has it that there is a caldron in Divis that you can use that will give you a easy passing grade. No one knows what the caldron is, but some students admit that when they make potions that there is no way it should have made it work with the wrong measurements.
"after careful deliberation with professor Crewel an some of the ghosts we decided to do a test Crewel said it would be an interesting learning experience, though professor Crewel said i had to do the important job of taking notes Grim an the ghosts got to do the fun job of actually making the potions! anyway professor Crewel had the ghosts an Grim make different difficult potions an the results were largely the same 'a absolute disaster' quoted professor Crewel but hay Mystery solved!"
The cat Lucius can talk like a human. Some students will see him talk and be too scared to talk back
"i spoke to professor Trein who laughed an told me to try it so i did Grim an i talked to the cat all day, Lucius does seem to be a smart cat but from the time i spent with them i don't think he can speak English Mystery solved!"

man i have really been thinking about worldbuilding and exposition in books recently
when i was like, i don’t know, twelve-ish, I picked up this book about a teenage girl in a spy school. and i absolutely fell in love with it - I thought it was incredibly neat how the book just seemed to drop me into the middle of the story, even starting in the girl’s second year. in fact, the main character frequently referenced events from her first year (falling in love with a civilian, things ending badly, finding secret passageways, losing her mother’s trust etc.)
and I actually really enjoyed the fact that the character had a rich and vibrant life outside of what i had read and that the book didn’t go out of its way to explain her past in flashbacks or anything. i understood the main takeaways and why she was reacting to things based on what i gleaned, and more than that i understood the growth of the character, why she was cautious in certain places but reckless in others, etc and i felt smarter for not being handed the answer on a silver platter
anyway it wasn’t until i finished the book and realized there was a sequel that i looked it up and found out that. in fact. i had started with the second book in the series.
Why did I just now realize that Crowley knew Enochian? (he could translate Samandriel's Enochian utterances ) Was he the only demon that does? In any case it must be very rare because in Season 15 Belphegor needed Cas to read the Enochian seal on Lilith's box. It was sealed by Enochian because demons can't read it.
This is huge... so much to think about, send help!
Which Clan‘s family tree/genetic diversity is the worst? Which is the best?
Shadowclan is a fucking pretzel. It's so bad I wasn't able to save it. I was able to fix ThunderClan with some sacrifices, but ShadowClan is utterly, completely fucked.
Even before making any fixes, I had to map out the tree for Modern ShadowClan and Yellowfang's Secret. It's obscene. The tree from Yellowfang's Secret is DEAD, which created a grotesque genetic bottleneck.
There's 21 active warriors in modern ShadowClan and 11 of them are directly tied to Snowbird.
Sunbeam does not HAVE any male options she could possibly have non-inbred kittens with except Blazefire OR HER MENTOR, OR her mentor's brother.
It's bad. It's bad bad bad bad.
The best tree genetically is WindClan... but that's not a compliment either. It's full of 'orphan warriors' with unknown parents who came out of nowhere; and ALL of those orphan warriors are male.
Shellfur took the ONE clean molly out of WindClan for himself.
But... anyway... to fix the WindClan family tree, you just need change the parents of Onestar OR Ashfoot. You can even eliminate ALL instances of inbreeding by also changing the parents of Deadfoot or Sorrelshine. Very, very easy tree to fix.
ithguleoir is an ancient sea leviathan who hails from the appropriately named leviathan trench but now likes to roam the shallows just off the coast of the clan's territory~ though he occasionally becomes a problem because he often reshapes the shallows by tunneling through the sand, creating hidden hazards to ships passing through, he is mostly accepted as a friend of the clan and he'll sometimes swim with and even protect the local fishers and other water dragons when they venture into the sea! 🌊
I could see tessa doing the coats of arms thing to make shadowhunters feel welcome but I too miss the extent to which shadowhunters dont like downworlders. It would have been really fun if it was incorporated in tlh especially since it was present in tid. Like imagine the picnic attatck happens and nobody is happy they have to go to the institute, most of the not hurt/lightly hurt people excuse themself. The sick gets transferred to the city of bones lightning Quick because the parents(excluding the lightwoods) dont want their children in the care of a warlock. It could have been really fun.
RIGHTTT it could have been such an interesting plot point, both just as a worldbuilding exercise and also bc it would have been so interesting to see james (and lucie) navigate what it means to be a downworlder & shadowhunter at the same time (which Was mentioned in tftsa once and then never followed up on) it was the perfect opportunity to have them change society around them in a very meaningful way but ALAS we never got that. literally show me james being the disgraced son of his popular father, show me the herondales being reclusive but still kind and open in the way that only will and tessa could be, show me the politics and prejudice of your fictional universe where people literally used to hunt people like tessa for sport just a few decades before!!!
