this is a summertime song. this song will be blasting in my car all the time. this song is upbeat but it is sad. it makes me want to smile but it also makes me want to cry. and I feel like, at his core and at his heart, that's the type of singer josh is. he will tear your heart apart with his beautiful lyricism and sad slow melodies but he will also make you want to scream your heart out and shout for joy with his energetic beats and fun, snappy rhythm.

in short, I am in love with this song. I am in love with the figurative language and the callbacks and the references. I am in love with Josh's voice and Josh's vision.

I have a question about the mafia au! How is it gonna be different from what you've originally had in mind?

Well! At first I approached it from a Godfather sort of deal, but like modern-esque. I've been studying movies involving organized crime to see how I felt about certain ideas, and by far that is my favorite influence. But then I just. Idk I didn't find myself liking my story idea, at least not in a "this will have a happy ending" way, bc that's kind of the joy of the Godfather series- witnessing the tragic rise and fall of Michael Corleone. And so if I wanted this story to end sadly, that woulda been a great parallel (Patroclus leaving bc he's gone too far vs Michael's wife leaving him? The third movie where hes trying to fix it all and his daughter is murdered right in front of him vs Achilles losing Phi, the one spot of innocence in his life? Chef's kiss, 1 of 1). But I don't think folks want that, and more importantly that's not necessarily how I wanted it to end.

I wanted this to be a bit more... lighthearted? Kind of a "dark AU" but instead of it being miserable and brooding and/or dubcon fic type dark AU it's more "yay we're morally dubious and don't care" kind of deal. The fantasy of spending dirty money and spilling blood without the "you're going to jail" aspect.

So then, once my partner suggested we watch John Wick, I got kind of excited about the concept of the Hotel Management, as I'd had a similar idea. The "this place is neutral ground, all murder occurs outside". Because that's cool right? I found myself leaning towards more action, less mafia. But that was also...not necessarily fun to write. JW does not have a big brain plot lmao, but there are aspects of angst I certainly pulled ideas from.

That lead me towards the idea of a Casino AU. A casino has elements of all of these things. The dirty money, the gambling, the organized crime, the action, and the one simple location for it all to occur. Now, the thing is, I'm not good at math. I am not great at card games. At all. So it's gonna require some studying to figure out how to do that.

(I also have a real world certificate to study for starting September so I now have less time to commit to studying for this lmao)

In summary, it's going to be more of a Casino AU than it is a serious, slower, singular mafia family business centered au, mainly bc i find myself drawn to this new idea more. I feel like I write very serious things often, and while I do enjoy that, perhaps I would like to indulge in a little bit of disbelief suspension myself while still delivering a short story (and trust me, the hurt/comfort will be there).

Second song also by the name of Honey is by...Big Time Rush. Yep. The Nickelodeon made boyband. This song was written after their comeback and was released a few months ago. The lil thing about after their comeback is important cuz they knew by now that the fans they had that grew up watching their show and listening to them are now adults and shit so have allowed themselves the freedom to write songs more...mature. ANYWAYS, this song is mostly about Cap and his relationship with Damien (i-e-n or i-a-n ???)

And the last line, Cap constantly going back to Damien (before leaving to the small "quiet" town) despite that small voice at the back of his head saying it's a bad idea that he never listens to or acknowledges cuz it's still some form of affection.

Damien calling Cap for nothing more than just some fun and never for anything else. Cap realizes Damien was only nice and polite at the start of their relationship cuz he thought he had to to get Cap's attention and then began dropping that facade (imagine the cedille is there.) And ofc Cap still went to him for a decent while before giving him up. Last line...tbh idk but it definitely just gives Cap vibez in regards to his relo with Damien.

4. "I'm stuck like honey on you"

A short yet simple line. But sums up Cap and Damien's relationship so well. Despite everything that man's done to Cap, he still went back to him time and time again before finally leaving him and his old place behind. He was attached to the only form of "positive" affection he had received. And ofc th fear of never finding anything better would set in but PAT IS RIGHT THERE. But yes, he become slightly dependent on the man and then finally escaped only for the mf to appear outta fuckin nowhere and remind him of everything they had done together. As if Cap would always be stuck with him. (which ofc he isn't cuz my guy Patrick fuckin Butcher knows how to treat a man.)

It's been a while since I've reread my own fic lol so I don't quite remember how much detail I went into about this but the Captain definitely knew it was a bad idea to continue seeing him, but any time he stopped, his nights/general free time would become solitary and he'd be inundated with thoughts of other mistakes he'd made (*cough cough* Havers) - going back to Damian is a way of punishing himself for that, and also a way to remind himself that this is probably all he deserves and that he's lucky to have even this.

Slow night.” He slicks your hair off your sweaty forehead, “you have a crazy fever.”  “Mhm..no..just..kinda cold in here.”  “That’s the opposite of a fever.” Shouta lets you fall forward onto his chest anyway, “did you feel alright when you went to bed?”  “A little achy.” You wrap your arms around his back, his skin was cold against you. His hands were freezing where one cupped the back of your neck, though despite your shivering the sensation was welcome. He presses a long kiss to your hairline, “you need medicine and some more water.”  “Just come to bed.” You moan turning your face into his chest, “I just need to sleep.”  “I don’t think so.” he disagrees, “come on, take some meds, drink a little water, and then I’ll get in bed with you.”  “I don’t wanna.” You grip him tighter as he moves to get up turning your nose into the shallow divot of his sternum between his pecs. “Stop whining.” His other hand pats the back of your head, “come on if you take medicine before you go back to sleep you’ll feel better when you wake up. Sekijiro Kan/ Vlad King: When you wake up all you can think about is just going back to sleep. Sekijiro is still passed out beside you, it’s probably pretty early. You stick you leg out from underneath the covers, hoping that will rectify the temperature issue you were having. It does not. You were melting and somehow also freezing.  Sekijiro looked pretty content, all things considered. You were sure he wouldn’t mind if you just..shuffled over..you press yourself into his back, face buried between his shoulder blades. This was helping worlds more than sticking your leg out did. You coil one arm around the much larger man, you were sure this all looked pretty comical. Your nuzzling and shifting must wake him up.  “Huh?” He’s reaching back, patting around your back and shoulders until hie finds your hair, “oh.” He settles back into place once he does,  “aren’t you sweet?” He yawns, “could’ve came around my other side, you woulda fit.” You just lean into him more. Once that’s cleared up you’ll feel much better.” He presses a kiss to you and you hum into it. “Will you be okay for a few minutes?”  You nod, turning into his lips for another kiss, which he obliges before getting up.  “I wonder where this came from all of a sudden.” He hands you two small pills and a glass of water. You take the pills quickly before beaconing him toward you again, he just sighs affectionately.  “Yeah okay, okay come on, get up here, right on my chest. That’s it.” He wraps two big arms around you, “I’ll stick around here today alright?” 

Kugo Sakamata/ Gang Orca You were already feeling pretty bad when you decided to call it an early night, but you’re hopeful it won’t be so bad when sleep finds you easily, though when you wake up a few hours later you’re feeling significantly less hopeful. You pat around the sheets for Kugo but he’s not there which isn’t exactly surprising, but it is unfortunate.  Normally you appreciated the cool of his satin sheets but right now they just made you shiver even more, all you really wanted was Kugo You manage to slide out of the bed and stumble down the hall in search of him, you wonder what time it is as you nudge open his offce door, sort of surprised you’d found it so easy in your weary state. Sure enough he’s there at his desk, tapping a pen against some papers.  When the door clicks open against you he turns over his shoulder.  “Hm?” He perks up at the sight of you, “I thought you were in bed?”  “Kugo..” You warble, rubbing your face, he turns in his chair completely.  “Oh, what’s the matter my love?” His voice is laced with affectionate sympathy at your bleary eyes. “Can’t sleep?” He asks, watching you lean dramatically on the doorframe.  “Mhmn..” You shake your head, pressing your cheek into the cool material. “You can’t?” He tilts his head at you, “but you look so exhausted my dear.” He holds an arm out to you, “come here. Aight, back into the fray we go. I'm under the impression that this episode either includes the Vi/Jinx reunion, or at least has the scene where Jinx lights the flare, so I might not be able to appreciate the animation through all of my tears.

Per usual, a quick disclaimer: These are just things I think about/notice while I watch (including "asdfhjkl I'm gay" and dumb jokes), and aren't intended to be taken as full on commentary. Taking notes like this helps me process parts of the show, and also makes it easier for me to deal with the sad parts by spreading it out (without requiring me to take a full-on break).

Update

The news about banning the “girls” tag on Tumblr made its rounds on Twitter so I thought I’d pop by real quick.

I often wonder what happens/happened to creators I like, and given my history, it occurred to me that some people might actually think I’m dead. Which is not an invalid concern, and I appreciate your long-distant parasocial concern. Thanks for not wanting me RIP in peace’d. Those who DMed me since I’ve been gone and as I continue to be gone, you’re acknowledged and I appreciate you, too. This one’s for you, chickadees.

Personal(?) Update

Life changes, legally changing my first name, legally changing my gender marker to M (because my state doesn’t offer X but I’m going to badger them about it so I can hopefully get X instead). Situation still suboptimal and sucky. Who woulda thunk? I should be able to start HRT once I move out, though, and that’s something to look forward to.

Video Essay Coming SoonTM

I’m working on a massive Omegaverse video essay project through the lens of cultural imports/exports through the medium of comics. (Manga, manhwa, and manhua specifically.) It’s absolute hell. You should watch it when it’s done. The script is over 16,000 words. The essay is informative, funny, and extremely thorough literary criticism discussing Omegaverse and the subjects within it that interest me. 

I’ll share the video here when I’m done, too, and I’ll be formatting the script in a way that others can understand so I can share it in a readable format as well. I seriously doubt auto-captions will do it justice.

Why Omegaverse? Because I am completely fascinated by it even though I don’t like it and nobody’s presented it in a video format the way I want to yet. Ez.

It’ll be on the same YouTube channel as my Barbie video essay once it’s done. Should be done by the end of January. Here it is in all its incomplete glory. 

Game Updates & Fandom

Immediate access to me is best found via Twitter. I only got into using it recently for fandom-related things. It’s a small personal/otaku-adjacent twt but I’m trying to use it to associate with people more since I know people have worried about me and I’ve worried about them. I’m still writing, though I’ve used most of my brain cells lately for the Omegaverse video essay. I have a conspiracy theory about Koyanskaya pinned to my twt right now that I’ll be putting on my AO3, too, probably, once it’s in coherent, complete sentences. 

I’ll also try to make myself share my other FGO writing I’ve been doing on AO3. It’s been rough since the whole “losing main friend group” thing. I still miss them and that environment a lot and it’s sore. My enthusiasm about my own work in all forms took a huge hit, as did my “ability to interact with others regarding things I enjoy.” (I made myself write today, here have my extremely thorough Koyanskaya theory.)

I’ve been totally stuck on this dumb Hello Kitty mobile game, too, Hello Sweet Days. My friend code there is djg2db. I’m not a whale, I just look like one, I swear. Sanrio is Japanese WDC and is therefore evil. Fuck Disney, btw.

All other thoughts are not available at this time 🤣 my brain refuses to focus on anything else. Except for that clip of Xena I saw that showed Mr. Campbell’s inner sideboob. I’m hella appreciative of that costuming choice. I’m probably the only person sick of men having topless scenes all the time. my favorite baku ship is definitely tdbk. i just love how fucking stupid they are, it will never bore me. i also really like shinbaku tho,, in my head they compensate for each other's sleeping schedules (shinso sleeps 4 hours and bakugou sleeps 14) and i literally have no other explanation for it but yeah

now about BakuCamie. I fucking love that pairing!! honestly i could see it as both a brotp or a romance. either way camie annoys the shit outta baku but he still loves her. oh and for some reason when i think of them i just imagine bakugou picking camie up firefighter style? like she’s just standing somewhere, literally in the middle of a conversation, bakugou needs her to tone down the ‘omg’s so he just straight up lifts her over his shoulder and carries her away. and this happens all the time. todo and inasa are the only ones who aren’t shocked.

i imagine camie teases bakugou relentlessly but baku does the same back so they kinda have this forever squabble going on between them.

OH and they go into Bad Bitch ModeTM together. B)

whenever camie sees baku across the room, she’ll immediately saunter over, acting all cool and stuff, and then when she gets to him they’ll do a their own lil handshake and act all high and mighty. 

also, i imagine baku would be camies go-to person to complain/gossip to. he only half listens so it’s perfect for her cause he understands but doesn’t care. she also tells baku all her secrets and stuff and she goes to him for advice too.

AND i think they get coffee together (with todo and inasa too) just whenever they’re in the neighborhood or something like that. camie gets a caramel latte and (no one will agree with me on this but thats not my problem)  baku gets a chocolate frappuccino. OR they get random new drinks to try out every time.

god i just fucking love them so much, the remedial course squad is just on a whole different level and i wish they were appreciated more and i wish we woulda just gotten to see more of them in general.
