so I'm rewatching the Pilot and Dean goes "in almost 2 years, I've never bothered you, never asked you for a thing." considering that Sam is in his senior year of college, that means Dean did have interactions with Sam while Sam was at Stanford. now maybe it's just a writer oversight, but I think it's something different. at some point during Sam's sophomore year, Dean reached out and Sam cut him off entirely. which makes Dean's "I must have stood outside your dorm for hours... because I didn't... I didn't know what... What you would say. I thought you'd tell me to... to get lost or get dead" ...really sad. because there was precedent for it.

The funniest thing about Destiel is that it's Castiel who came out to Dean and confessed his love BUT all the thirsty looks, the lips licking, the boner, the grieving, the sobbing, the falling to his knees... all that came from Dean. So what does it make Dean?????

one of the great tragedies of sam and dean to me is. sam's violent pit of self-loathing and desire for purity/perfection always pushing him to the brink of destruction. dean loving him so painfully, to the point of obssession - his brother's saviour yet frightened by his brother - doesn't know how to save sam from himself. his worst obstacle to loving and keeping sam safe is sam. so dean blames him for it! and in doing so just keeps feeding the monster living in sam's head telling him he's bad and rotten beyond saving. cue sam_marytrdom.exe

Say what you will about The Winchesters but it gave Dean a future. It gave back at least in some form that future he was robbed of, gave him possibilities, gave him back his active role in shaping his own story, the very thing he fought so hard for. Whatever happens, whether we get season 2 or not, whether we see more of him or not, we know now that the finale was not the end - this is now a part of canon and always will be <3
