using calmly writer again. i used it way back when it was just a chrome extension and now they do have the online version available but they've also moved to a downloadable software. decided to try it out for this one oneshot i am working on bc i wanted more font options (only three on the online version but Much More in the download which is nice, especially since i can use lucida grande, ao3's font, that was a very nice find)

it also has different background presets and there's this one...

sort of. curious. i mean. old school. from where. i was so surprised when i clicked it and then everything changed this... very bright bright LOL. or not bright. but. idk. it Stands Out

ETA: it also has this awesome typewriter sound for when you type! do really like that too

otherwise. pretty solid program. you do need a license to keep using the program and its... $12 USD i think? but you can also download it without putting in payment info and it'll give you an unknown amount of time for the trial, which is what i am on. $12 is pretty good, i think, but i like formatting my writing in..... classic book format? (no idea what it should be called but like. no spaces between paragraphs and indents/tabs at the start of each one, you know) and when pasting over from docs, it does get rid of that/other formatting like italics.

you can indent in the software (but not online, also another reason i decided to give the download a try) but it's kind of. well. gestures to the picture. it doesn't do it automatically, either, you have to do it each time. also don't even know if those indents will hold when i export it which might Stink but i'm saving that problem for my future self (so, like, later tonight). also for a proper em dash, you have to hit '-' three times; two makes it Very Small and again. don't know how it holds when its being exported so i just want to be safe/stay consistent with how long the em dashes were originally when typed in docs

that's really the main thing with it. i like my indents. and i also always copy and paste stuff back into google docs when i'm done working on my laptop (where i might ordinarily use scrivener to write, which doesn't give me any problems with any of these things and with copying back to docs), that way i can keep writing on my phone if i'm going to bed or something. of course now i'm using calmly as like... new program. new inspo. i love environmental changes As We All Know. so i'm overlooking it for the grind (the writing)

Okay I'm not saying that this semester's students suck ass bc I'm not there to teach them, but isn't it just such a coincidence that the vast majority are failing so miserably and they don't have someone who will tutor them outside of class and go over notes and skills with them, while the previous semesters did have that and the majority passed? Super interesting stuff. Too bad we'll never know if things could've been different if they had just fucking paid me :)

frustrating how so many craft books have a section about "how to sell what you've made"

like on one hand i get it because the person writing the book has obviously made their craft a full-time job. and they might have some tips and tricks that might be useful, and there are people out there who might be trying to start a small business out of it

but on the other hand it's just exhausting and feels like another voice saying "what's the point of having a hobby if you're not going to monetize it"

need to shell out for a new laptop before the end of the year - for a lot of reasons but mainly bc support ending for win8.1 makes fixing the current beast rather pointless :/ (and. admittedly. there is a lot to fix. she's old and she has suffered.)

but my current beastie is from the last gen of laptops with a disc drive and the thought of using an external/usb disc drive is enough to make me cry tears of blood

Do y’all know anyone who doesn’t actually know how to have a conversation, all they know is how to interrupt or derail a conversation? Like they keep talking over you to tell you their opinion on something (often unrelated), even though the conversation doesn’t call for an opinion. There was no, “What do y’all think,” but they still gotta interrupt, speak very loudly over you and tell you some very wrong opinion. Or you’ll be talking and then they just start up a different topic. And when you call them out on that the response is, “I’m not interested in that.”

They're talking about getting their kid tested for ADHD because the school recommended it and instead getting their kid identified as gifted and put on an accelerated track.

I love to be the bearer of news here for ya because accelerated learning tracks are GREAT accomodations for people with ADHD.

Turns out he was just bored? Respectfully, do you understand what ADHD is and how it works? Of course he's bored he has ADHD.

The "gifted" program's gift is actually just late diagnosis once your kid leaves the academic world and discovers that they have received zero actual skills, habits, or support to help them be successful as an adult.

I think the really fucking tragic part is that most of the time late diagnosis happens AFTER the new adult has crashed and burned trying to establish themselves after they leave the nest. Oftentimes going in for help for depression and coming out with an ADHD diagnosis because it turns out their depression is comorbid.

Tl;dr: Without knowing you have a disability, it is impossible to accommodate your disability so that you can still fucking function and learn how to flourish as yourself. End fucking stop.

SO he was a priest right and one popular with the corpos that were employed by 'saka in NC. well, he started speaking ill of the company and selling company intel to their rivals when the employees would go to confession. so like..... he had to go u know? blah blah talk ill of the corp u get zeroed etc etc. they devised a genius plan to have him marry them, when she says "you may kiss the bride" they do of course buuuuut they also zero him in the process while he's distracted.. and they did just that! and it worked! hinata and oda yank out their mantis blades and the deed was done <3. every great wedding ends in someone getting flatlined right?

🖊 - OO okay this’ll be the fun one.. for this one we will be discussing! nadyas………. “lovers.” shes got three in her character arc that hold the most meaning to her both good and bad. those would be: y*orinobu (HUUGE) johnny (VERY) and r*ache (VERY and also painful!). if i for sure need to do a deep lore dive essay into the meaning of people in her life especially these three. but in essential the tropes to best depict them are for sure “mutual obsession inevitable downfall” for yori and nadya. “right person wrong time and rivals to lovers” for her and johnny. and! pain pain and suffering “tragic doomed lovers” for nadya and rachie <3

I have no idea if scarlet/ violets performance issues are down to

- the hardware not being powerful enough to run the vision for the game.

- performance of Pokémon games has been rough since the 3ds, implying game freak is generally Not Very Good at optimising for 3d. Still.

- a dev cycle of 3-4 years is just NOT enough time to make this kind of game in.

All I know is I don't want to see gen 10 in 3 years time.....

Another year of dev time would most likely smooth out a lot of these issues for the next gen. Usually, large open world games have 5+ year dev cycles. Scarlet/ violet would have started development in the last year of SwShs?

This is the IP that has grossed the highest income. There's a lot of eyeballs on this series. Another year of dev time is not going to break the bank.

The game is Very Good. And largely the glitches I'm seeing are considered "non game breaking", and would have been in the "we know about it, and it's not a priority to be fixed before launch" pile. But the public is just going to see "oh it's broken" (in the grand scheme of things that go wrong in game development, none of these bugs are THAT bad). It's forever going to tar these games now.

Game Freak need to just... Be given enough time to get gen 10 On Form. SV is an excellent leap forward for the series, but the next one needs to be Stable out of the gate. 3 years between releases is no longer viable, please give the next one a bit more time to cook.
