[SUMMARY: Negans wives become jealous after he begins to like the new woman who has joined the sanctuary. Taking advantage of her innocence and English not being her main language, the girls plot against her, making Negan go back on one of his own rules.]
Got Negan speaking some spanish.
Smut
Negan and Valentina. PART ONE
"My oh my..." Negan squinted his eyes at the sight of you across the room from him. Not paying attention to who was watching you, you continued organizing cans of fruit as you were told to do that day.
"Is that the new chick you bought here this morning?" Negan looked over at Simon beside him.
"Yeah, I put her on supply duty. Her english isnt so good but she moves quick."
Negan looked back at you, your caramel complexion and long wavy hair catching his attention.
"And why the hell have I not been introduced to her?" Negan responded with a raised brow.
"You're the one who said not to bother you if I found people I felt could fit in here. Trust my judgement, dont you?" Simon asked Negan noticing he wouldnt take his eyes off you.
"Of course I do. I also trust you to tell me when a fine piece of ass joins us, she might want to join the others," he explained referring to his wives. His response causing Simon to shake his head.
"Ehh...shes a little different from the other ones buddy. That's why I didnt mention her."
"Different? How?" Negan asked with interest as he turned to Simon.
"Shes a quiet one."
"The quietest ones are the freakiest," Negan grinned as he chewed on a toothpick.
"What's her name?"
"Valentina," Simon answered crossing his arms. Negan slid the toothpick around his mouth with his tongue before pulling it out and flicking it to the side.
"I'll be right back," Simon watched as Negan made his way to you knowing exactly what he would try to do.
"Excuse me, Miss Valentina is it?" Negan spoke in a charming voice as you continued organizing the cans straight in a box.
"Shit, I dont think I've been properly introduced to you. I do run this place so I should know everyone here, shouldn't I?" Immeditaly you stopped what you were doing and looked up at him with a look of embarrassment.
"I did not know this was your place. My apologies." Negan frowned at you not expecting your politeness or being so attracted to the sound of your accent.
"No need for an apology, darling. Im Negan and it is my upmost pleasure to meet you." Negan spoke charismatically as he slowly checked out what was before him from head to toe. The look of innocence pulled Negan more towards you. Smiling at him you shyly crossed your arms not knowing what else to say.
"How about I give you a tour of my Sanctuary."
"A tour?" You answered with a puzzled expression.
"What's that?" You asked, not knowing too much English there was many words you did not understand.
"A tour, when someone shows you around. Shit, I'll be your personal host. What do you say, honey?"
"Oh, I guess. Yes." Your response exciting Negan.
Negan showed you the men at work, he showed you where everyone got together to eat and then he left his wives for last. He led you into a room with four women. Slightly confused by how they were dressed and how their faces changed when they saw Negan, you did not say a word.
"Dont be shy, sweetheart." Feeling his hand on your lower back as he gently pushed you close inside you smiled nervously.
"These women here are my dear, dear wives." Negan looked back at you to see your reaction. With a frown you looked at each of them as they stared back at you.
"Wives? All of them? I dont understand."
"Mmmhm." Negan bit his bottom lip with a smile.
"These women get special access to many things here at the Sanctuary and all they have to do is be my wife."
Negan explaining to you the rule did not notice the way one of his wives Sara, was looking at you. Right away you began to feel uncomfortable that this man had all these women, you were not sure if he was trying to come on to you with the offer.
"That is um....very nice-" you struggled to find the right words as you took a step back.
"I should get back to my work," Negan fully turned to you with your response.
"See that's the best part," he spoke in a matter of fact tone.
"As my wife you dont have to do any of that work, sweetheart." Standing still, you observed the way he looked at you. Clearly, he was attracted to you.
"In my country...we work for our needs. We work hard...nothing is for free."
"Hm," Negan responded as he looked down at you. He respected your way of thinking, if anything it made him more interested.
"I cant argue with that, darling." Negan winked at you as he stood beside you. The women watched the way he placed his hand on your lower back once again as he led you out of the room. You were the first woman to deny Negans offer but they saw the way he looked at you. They could tell he liked you and they didnt want to share Negan with anyone else.
The next few days you continued to work with the supplies as you had planned. Negan watched as you helped around with the kids, he thought you were a very sweet woman. He thought you had a softer touch than the others. Today you took a different task and helped with the cooking, you didnt notice how much Negan had his eyes on you. The man was captivated by your beauty. As you cut up the vegetables in the kitchen, Negan quietly entered. Humming to yourself, he entered the room and took it upon himself to stand beside you.
"Mind if I keep you company, sweetheart?"
"If that's what you like," your accent making him smirk. Negan leaned against the counter with his arms crossed, an amused expression on his face.
"What?" You looked up at him confused.
"Nothing...its just the way you speak."
His response making you frown, you weren't sure to be offended or not.
"What's wrong with the way I speak?"
Negan chuckled as he stepped closer to you.
"Oh...absolutely, nothing. I actually find it kind of..sexy." He answered with a grin making you look away shyly.
"I know men like you." Negan frowned as you responded with a soft voice.
"Men like me? What's that suppose to mean?"
"Que se-" you cut yourself off not meaning to respond in spanish.
"I mean-"
"Woah woah woah. What was that?" Negan leaned in closer to you.
"Were you about to just tell me off in Spanish?" He asked with half a smile, he couldn't deny it. The sound of you losing your patience in your first language aroused him.
"Please....go on," Negan teased.
"What I was going to say..was that-"
"In spanish, Valentina," the sound in his voice sounding like an order.
"Te gusta coquetear. You like to flirt...you chase after many women...womanizer."
"Mmmmm..." Negan bit his bottom lip and shook his body liking the sound of you talking in your language before he took another step closer.
"Well just for your information, Valentina. I dont chase after women, I flirt. But I cant help when a woman catches my eye like no other has..." His husky voice making you look up at him staring directly down at you.
"And I have to admit, you've really caught my eye." You could feel your cheeks begin to blush before turning away shyly.
"I better finish cooking." Nervously you responded continuing to chop up the vegetables as Negan remained beside you. Feeling his eyes heavily on you, you began to cut faster when suddenly you sliced your finger.
"Ow!" Negan turned serious at the sound of your scream.
"Shit." He instantly took hold of your hand taking a close look at your cut.
"I'm fine, I just-"
"Come here." Negan took you by your wrist to the table and sat you down across from him.
"Its nothing, Negan-"
"You cut yourself pretty fucking deep." Negan pulled out a small bottle of whiskey from his pocket and opened it with his mouth before quickly pouring some on your wound. You gasped trying to pull your hand back but he held you tightly.
"Easy, honey." Negan blew lightly on your wound as he looked at you and relieved the burning sensation.
"Better? Or am I going to get told off again in spanish?" Negan teased making you playfully scowl at him.
"Let me see this." Negan grabbed a cloth and patted it dry. Quietly you watched how gently he moved, how softly he touched your fingers. You had to admit, you were surprised to see a man like him move so lightly with his hands. He seemed so concerned with your wound. Sara, one of his wives unexpectedly walked in catching your hand in his as he treated you. Quickly you pulled away and stood up noticing the irritated look in her eyes.
"Sara, you need something?" Negan turned to her as she changed the expression on her face.
"No, we were just looking for you. All of us have been looking for you." Sara responded as you turned away wrapping your finger in a bandage.
"Alright. I'll be right there. You can go." Sara not liking his response turned and left the room as Negan stood up and walked towards you.
"You always carry a bottle of that stuff on you?" You asked with your back to him.
"Some times, never know when a pretty lady might accidentally wound herself." He teased making you laugh.
"I'm not so bad after all, am I?" His voice made you smile as you tied your finger up.
"You're still a womanizer," you responded playfully.
"Till one catches my eye." Negans tone wasnt as playful as yours, he meant what he said. Not knowing what to respond to that you changed the subject.
"Well thank you, even though it burned," you laughed as he stood behind you.
"I would've finished taking care of it if you didnt get up and run away so fast."
"Its okay, you're a busy man. Your wives are waiting."
"Let them wait." Negan responded not knowing Sara was hearing eveything behind the door. Never had Negan neglected his time with his wives before and they did not like this.
"I got it. Let me finish cooking, I'll see you around." You turned to him with a smile before continuing to make dinner.
Sara had already been complaining to the other women on how much attention Negan had been giving you. Not realizing just how much these women were growing to despise you, you went about your days not thinking of them. Negan on the other hand bought a smile to your lips everytime he came to mind. Everyday he took time out of his day to have some conversation with you. You would always catch him staring at you from afar, it made your heart flutter. He respected the fact that you didnt want to be one of his wives, that you werent like the others but that's what seemed to make him like you more. A couple days later you found yourself back on supply duty. Negan stood by the door as you marked off the number of each item on your clipboard.
"Everything going good?" The sound of his voice instantly make your heart skip a beat. Turning to him with a sweet smile he walked towards you.
"Yes, everything is great."
"Let me take a look at what you've got going on here." Negan stood right behind you looking over your shoulder as he read over what you had written down. The feel of his body so close behind you made your breathing begin to grow unsteady.
"Shit, this looks about right." He murmured behind you. Negan took a peak at the sight of your cleavage watching your chest rise and fall quickly, he could tell you were nervous with him standing so close.
"So, is good?" You questioned him before swallowing nervously.
"Valentina, tell me...how do I say 'very good' in spanish?" He asked close to you.
"Um..its muy bien," Negan licked his lips at the sound of your voice.
"Muy bien," Negans deep voice sent shivers down your spine, you had to admit he sounded smooth.
"Did that sound good?" He asked slowly, it was hard not to show how much you liked it.
"Mhm," Negan grinned behind you hearing the nervous excitement in your tone.
"How about..beautiful?" You suddenly felt Negans hand gently take hold of your waist making you softly gasp.
"Negan.."
"Say it." Taking a deep breath you hesitantly responded.
"Hermosa."
"Hermosa," he whispered behind your ear seductively, you could tell he was trying to turn you on and it was working until you remembered his wives.
"Negan-" you spoke breathlessly finally turning to face him.
"What are you doing? You know how I feel-"
"No I dont. Tell me again," his eyes were intense, he was turned on just as much, if not more than you were. His hands pulled you close against him as you looked up at him hesitantly.
"I'm not one of your wives...that's not who I am..we cant..-" you spoke but your eyes did not follow. He could tell how weak you were, how close you were to giving in to him. He leaned his forehead on yours, making you feel his breath touch your lips.
"Negan....I dont like being with someone who has...who has others."
"I havent touched them since we met," Negan spoke hoarsley. And it was true, the man couldnt bring himself to be sexually aroused by them with how much he thought of you since he met you. You found it hard to believe but it was true. Finally you both closed your eyes and let each others lips press against each other. Negan groaned with his mouth on yours, for so long he had been wanting to taste you. Not as one of his wives, not as just another woman he wanted but a woman he longed for. His lips trailed down the side of your jaw onto your neck as he sucked on it making you moan. Lost in the passion neither of you heard someone enter the room, that someone being Sara.
"Negan," her demanding voice making you jump back turning away from him as you fixed your hair.
"God dammit, what did I tell you about interrupting me?" He yelled at her in frustration.
"I'm sorry, I'll go." Embarrassed and angry, not expecting him to react this way, she left the room as Negan followed to where you moved.
"Now...where were we?" He pulled you against him making you put your hand to his chest to stop him.
"Negan no, I'm sorry. Those girls dont like me-"
"You think I give a shit?"
"Its not just that, I dont do this like this. I'm not one of them." You struggled to explain to the best of your ability in english. Negan felt frustration run through him, so turned on he could burst knowing he was so close to having you. So close until someone barged in and interrupted the moment. Negans breathing was heavy, you could tell how much he wanted you.
"Dont let her ruin what was happening between us."
"Its not her-"
"Then what the fuck is it?!" He suddenly yelled making you back away.
"You dont yell at me! Quien crees que eres!?" Negan raised his brows, a sudden smirk slowly forming on his face.
"So that's what it takes for you to talk to me like that huh? And what exactly did you just say?" Negan stepped closer as you crossed your arms holding the clipboard against you.
"Not that it matters because either way you sound so sexy..." Negan couldnt hide his arrogant and flirtatious side.
"Who do you think you are?" You repeated so he could understand.
"Thinking because you are the leader of this place you can yell at me or fuck me when you want-"
"Oh baby, talking dirty to me now?" Negan was amused by your reaction, his response only irritating you more.
"Alright, alright. I'm sorry." Negan finally gave in, as much as he liked the sound of you speaking in Spanish, he didnt like you being angry with him. As this whole time, you had never become angry with him.
"But if you must know, that's not the way I think, doll. I actually fucking like you." He admitted making you blush.
"Do I wanna fuck you? Of course I do, cant you see how fucking hard you have me? I can't lie about that but, I also fucking like you. Do you see me making any god damn time for my wives? Why do you think they constantly come looking for me when I'm with you?" Negan had a point, either way at that moment you didnt want to speak about it any longer.
"I think I should continue with my work, I'll talk to you later." Turning your back to him you continued to count over the items, Negan walked out in frustration cursing at himself.
Sara angrily ran to the other women and told them what she had just witnessed.
"So that's why hes barely been with us this past month, hes been with that broad," one wife complained.
"Hes never done this before when other women arrived, what makes that chick so special?" Another complained with frustration.
"I dont know but we've got to think of something to get rid of her. She needs to go." Sara responded when suddenly Negan pushed the door open.
"Sara, can I see you for a moment." Negan called out for her making her smile, not realizing Negan was in anything but a good mood.
"Yes, Negan," she responded happily as she closed the door behind her and faced him.
"Do me a favor dont fucking look for me unless I look for you. Dont ask of me, dont call for me, forget I'm fucking here. Understood?"
Sara's jaw dropped not expecting him to ever act this way with her.
"Y-yes. Sure." Angrily he walked off, only confirming the thought in her head that you indeed had to go.
Sara and the women had planned on introducing themselves to you, as they had never spoken to you themselves. As you finished organizing the supply room and locked the door shut you turned to find Negans wives standing outside the door.
"Um hi," nervously you smiled at them as you felt strongly that they disliked you.
"Hi, Valentina right?"
"Yes."
"My name is Sara, this is Susan, Sherry and Lisa."
"Hi, its very nice to meet you." You werent able to look Sara in the eye knowing she had just seen you and Negan together...kissing.
"I know, we havent really met..but why not right?" All the girls laughed simultaneously as you smiled awkwardly.
"We wanted to ask if you'd like to join us for dinner?"
"I-um sure," being completely caught off guard you weren't sure what to say. The girls happily walked with you to the kitchen and you sat with them quietly.
"Look Sara, about what you saw-"
"What about it?" Sara responded playfully.
"We've all been there with him, now it's your turn. Dont feel bad." She laughed as you felt a kick to your gut. You knew Negan had many wives and fooled around with everyone but you still didnt like hearing it.
"He did that with all of us, whenever one of us were new, we were his main priority for a certain time." She lied through her teeth, she knew none of them ever got personal treatment this way. She saw the disappointment in your eyes.
"Oh. I understand." Your expression quickly changing, the girls could tell you liked Negan and was hurt by what you heard.
Their plan of pretending to be nice to you to gain trust was working, the things they told you of Negan made you never want to speak to him. You felt like a fool falling for his words, how could you be so dumb? The man had so many wives and you for some reason thought you were special? Walking outside with them after dinner instantly caught Negans attention. He frowned and squinted his eyes from where he was watching you speak to his wives. Negan had a funny feeling about this and didnt like the sight of it.
"Oh shit, hes coming," you heard one of the girls whisper when Negan suddenly showed up before all of you, his eyes directly on you.
"Ladies."
"Hi, Negan," they all spoke together while you stayed silent making him step up to you.
"I dont get a hello, Valentina?"
"Negan," you muttered low making him look at the other women strangely.
"Valentina....I'd like to have a talk with you. Alone."
"I'd rather not."
"I didnt ask," he shot back making you look up at him. Looking back at his wives as Negan walked ahead, you could tell they were annoyed but, what could you do. Quietly you followed Negan far from where his wives stood before he turned to you with a very serious look.
"I dont want you talking to them."
"Why not?"
"Cause I said so. I dont trust it," you scoffed rolling your eyes.
"What dont you trust? That they're making me see you for who you really are?"
Negan frowned stairing down at you, his eyes looking directly into yours.
"What are they telling you about me?" He spoke low leaning his face close to yours.
Before you could respond Sara suddenly appeared besides both of you.
"Negan I have to tell you something."
"God dammit Sara, havent you learned-"
"I'm pregnant," you gasped at her words. A heart sinking feeling as you felt a knot in your throat. Sara was desperate to push you away in any way she could.
"Excuse me?" Negan looked at her puzzled as he walked towards her slowly.
"I-I should go." You began to walk away before Negan reached back and grabbed your arm without turning back to you.
"No Valentina. Stay right here. Now, what the fuck did you say, Sara?"
"I'm- I'm pregnant, Negan."
"Bullshit," he responded coldly.
"What the fuck do you think you're trying to do?" He spoke with a low angry voice, he knew exactly what Sara was up to and he wasnt going to let it happen.
"Its true, I am."
"I havent touched you in over a month."
"Did you forget that time in the supply closet?" She asked with wicked eyes, you looked away in shock, feeling disgust.
"Oh you want to play that fucking game with me?" Negan yelled at Sara charging towards her as she stared up at him boldly.
"Go back to the fucking room. Get the hell out of my face." Sara looked over at you in disapproval before storming off back inside. Negan turned back to find you with glossy eyes, he could tell you were attempting to hold back tears.
"Valentina-"
"I should've known. I knew you was a womanizer, a man with many-many wives." You struggled to express yourself properly.
"Val, shes lying. I havent touched her since I met you. I didnt want to."
"My name is Valentina," you snapped at him with your accent emphasizing on your name.
"And it doesnt matter, we are not you know...um a couple or whatever-"
"We can be."
"I dont want to be one of your wives!"
"I dont want you as one of them god dammit, I dont even want them!" Negan yelled making you silent. You didnt know what to believe with everything they had told you.
"I just want to go to my room." You responded in a calm manner as you looked away.
"Then go," Negan walked off angrily that you wouldnt believe him, angry that he ever lived the way he did at all. Quietly you went off to your room just wanting to cool off. Negan headed to where the wives were to discipline them and happened to walk into the hallway hearing them talk their next plan out.
"We have to get rid of her, hes not giving up on her and shes-"
"Shes not going to leave, she has nowhere to go, " Sherry responded.
"And Negan sure as hell wont make her leave. We're stuck with her."
"Unless......unless we do something to her." Sara suggested as Negan over heard with a straight face.
"What do you mean do something to her? Like hurt her?" Susan asked in excitement.
"Yeah, I mean, Negan wont know. He can just think it's an accident." Negan pressed his lips together angrily at the thought of anyone hurting you.
"What do you girls say?" Sara asked looking at all of them eager for a response. It didnt take long for them all to agree. Negan had a rule to never hurt women, but hearing them even think of hurting you made him want to bend some rules.
"We'll just get her one day while Negans out of the sanctuary. Trick her into being alone with us-" The women suddenly gasped at the sound of Negan entering the room.
"Negan, we weren't expecting you," Sara laughed nervously hoping he hadn't heard anything.
"Oh, I know that," Negan responded sarcastically as he stood before them.
"I needed to have a talk with you ladies. Now you ladies know what one of my number one rules are, dont you?"
"Yeah, to not do any harm to women." Lisa responded confidently.
"Exactly, now what are some things I hate?" Negan stepped closer in a very slow manner.
"Lies," responded one wife.
"Being crossed," responded another as Negan slowly pulled out his gun.
"Exactly! Now do you ladies know what this is?" They watched as he placed a silencer on his gun before pointing it at a random space.
"Is that a-" before Sherry could finish he pointed the gun at Lisa and shot her dead making all of them scream.
"So I heard from a little bird that you guys had a plan." Negan pointed again and shot Sherry.
"Shit-" Sara muttered in fear in shock at the cold blooded action Negan was taking.
Quietly you sat on your bed not being able to stop thinking about Negan. Were you actually starting to have feelings for this man? Maybe you should've let him really express himself to you, you knew those women didnt like you after all. With a sigh you stood up and decided to go find Negan and really have a one on one conversation with him.
Negan had by now shot down everyone besides Sara, terrified she put her hands up as Negan walked towards her.
"You thought you could cross me and get away with it?" Negan smirked as she shook her head.
"I...I apologize. I p-p-promise I wont-"
"A little to late for that dont you think?"
Walking towards the main room you could see the door cracked so you knew he was in there. Just as you reached the door you slowly opened it to a sight you would never forget.
"Ne-" you gasped just as Negan pulled the trigger and shot Sara through the head. You let out a scream covering your mouth in shock, Negan turned to you as you observed what was before you.
"Valentina," the look of complete terror in your eyes you couldnt believe what you saw. Visibly shaking, your eyes fell on him then back to his gun still in his hand. Quickly putting it away he took a step forward making you scream taking a step back. Negan could tell he had just instilled fear into you, fear of him.
"Valentina, sweetheart.. I can explain."
Not saying a word as you struggled to breathe you slowly took another step back before making a quick run for it.
"Valentina!" Negan yelled running after you catching you from behind in the middle of the hallway. You screamed as he covered your mouth and held you against him not letting you go.
"I'm not gonna hurt you!" He yelled as you cried trying to get away from him before he pulled you down on the floor against him.
"Shh, listen to me," his hand still over your mouth as he held your arms down around you.
"I had to do it," Negan whispered in your ear out of breath. He could feel you trembling against him, he hated knowing he made you feel this way.
"You think I wanted to do that? You know I dont hurt women but...those women wanted to hurt you. And I wasnt going to fucking allow that." You cried trying to push his hands away, you didnt believe him.
"I know you're scared but you have to trust me dammit!" Negan having more strength than you exhausted you, finally you gave up out of breath against him. Feeling you relax in his arms he slowly dropped his hand away from your mouth. Hesitantly you looked back at him in a way you had never looked at him before.
"No.. don't do that." He whispered looking down at you.
"Dont look at me like I'm a damn monster," you couldnt help noticing the blood splatter on the bottom side of Negans face before looking back into his eyes.
"You killed those women..." you spoke in a shaky voice.
"You werent suppose to see that."
Shaking your head in disbelief you kept picturing all four of their bodies laying dead on the floor. You couldnt believe the same man so gentle with your wound could do so much damage. You had no idea the kinds of things Negan had done.
"No....I-this isnt right.." you slowly began to push yourself away before quickly standing up and rushing off. Just wanting to get away from him you ran into a random room not realizing it was his bedroom. Before you could rush back out Negan entered and locked the door behind him.
"Now you're gonna hear me."
"Negan, please I want to go. Please." You began to cry as he walked towards you with deeply knitted brows.
"You think I'm gonna hurt you?" You couldnt look him in the eye as he stood inches away from you.
"Those women wanted you dead which is why they're dead and you think I'd fucking hurt you?" Slowly blinking through your tears you looked up at him hesitantly.
"Dead?" You whispered confused.
"Yes they wanted you dead and they were going to hurt you the next time I wasnt around and I would've killed them then too." Looking down you noticed the view of his gun, instantly making you uncomfortable. Negan followed your eyes and could tell it made you feel unsafe.
"You want me to put it away, then will you fucking listen to me?"
Without you saying a word he slowly pulled it out of his pocket and hid it in a drawer beside him.
"Why?" You suddenly asked looking up at him innocently.
"Why what?"
"Why for me...you do this? I dont understand I-"
"I thought I made myself clear about that, sweetheart." Negan slowly stepped closer to you not wanting to frighten you.
"I cant help when a woman catches my eye and I haven't had a woman catch my eye in a long fucking time."
Got cut off with this post, I'll post part 2 in a bit!

fanfic recommendations
for @kittensocute bc i heard “atsukita” and “iwaoi” in reference to fanfiction and i am There
i took your “i love slow burn or slow build fics... so i like relatively shorter burn fics (20-30k). If its a 10k oneshot slow burn hELL SIGN ME UP” and absolutely ran with it.
i listed my fav iwaoi fics (17) with a longer word count (longest is 80k) that are all mostly either canon compliant or divergent with only two straight up AUs. none of them feature heavy nsfw content and most if not all are tagged as friends to lovers lmao. feel free to read the my thoughts or just go into them blind!! and they’re all in order of how much I absolutely adore them :^)
now atsukita is not a big ship *sobs* but here are some of my favorite fics (7) of them! a lot of them are shorter bc i guess that’s just. what happens when it’s a small ship LOL.
the formatting in this is fucked if you open it from ur dash but if it’s on my actual blog it should be fine!
Iwaoi
the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle
Word count: 66k
thoughts: my absolute absolute absolute favorite iwaoi fic. the characterization, the fact that oikawa’s a bastard but because he and iwaizumi are older (late 20s i believe), it feels more realistic and sad rather than oikawa being a bitch for the sake of it. spoiler alert it’s slow burn and pining and mostly oikawa not realizing his feelings. this world building is pretty cool bc iwaizumi is the professional player while oikawa is an entomology professor! also i love non-linear narratives bc of This fic. there’s mutual pining in this fic but it’s really really really subtle to the point where you dont even know if oikawa likes iwa. this made me cry like twice.
sunset towns
Word count: 33k
Summary: In the summer of 2020, Oikawa Tooru returns home from his first successful stint as captain of Japan’s national volleyball team. In one hand, he holds the undisputed weight of an Olympic medal, and in the other, his unresolved feelings for a childhood best friend.
thoughts: the tone in this is So similar to the courtship ritual that I liken this as an alternate story even though it’s still oikawa’s pov. professional player oikawa and regular guy iwaizumi and oikawa is just. bumming around at iwaizumi’s place and naturally he messes up but things happen.
told before and told again
word count: 4k
thoughts: i looked through literally all the tags i could’ve thought of for this and nearly cried when i found it agian. outsider POV!!
In damp earth my body
Word count: 15k
Summary: Onscreen, the nation’s favorite setter has arranged himself so that he’s bowing, forehead pressed to the court, like he’s thanking everyone for their kindness thus far, like he’s asking for forgiveness. Hajime thinks: shit, it’s really happening
thoughts: oikawa retires and moves in with iwaizumi and they blur the line between roommates/best friends and being fwb. this is an iwaizumi pov and the pining is obvious on his end. as a iwa stan the tone made me feel weird bc it makes it seem like iwa cares more abt oikawa than he cares abt himself but. its a good fic
i grew up, you grew down
word count: 19k
thoughts: this is also SO funny bc basically oikawa retires and moves in with iwaizumi and becomes his stay at home wife and a bunch of shit happens like people think that oikawa is dating ushijima and oikawa basically loses it every time. here’s one of my favorite quotes:
“Oikawa also bought a new ultra-strength vacuum cleaner he’d decided to name Ushiwaka out of sheer spite, because it sucked all the air right out of the room. Iwa-chan didn’t think the joke was that funny when Tooru told him, which was frankly very hurtful and insensitive.”
Mint
Word count: 19k
thoughts: iwaizumi is moving and oikawa planned a perfect last hangout and it goes to shit featuring matsuhana. oikawa pov where he pines more than iwa which is something i can get behind!! and this was written in 2015 and iwa’s moving bc of a sports medicine program so iwaizumi stans know and love him sm ;;
Almost a Stranger
Word count: 16k
thoughts: same premise as mint LOL except they’re on a trip together and there’s more non-linear narrative!! this one is a little more mature in tone than mint i would say (funny how people just like splitting them up and throwing them in different countries huh)
with every second that you could give
Word count: 9k
Summary: The journey of Iwaizumi and Oikawa going for gold.
Quote: He knows they’re too close. Iwaizumi knows it too, and they both decided to move in together anyway.
thoughts: iwaoi roommates and they’re both obviously and really pine-y for each other and everyone sees it but them. srsly. they’re sleeping in the same bed. like my god
Lost in Translation
Word count: 9k
Summary: Because misfortune come in threes, Iwaizumi Hajime starts his Thursday having a screaming fight with Shittykawa, spends his lunch break listening to the UCI women’s volleyball team gossiping about how Ushijima Wakatoshi had gone public about his longtime love affair with Oikawa Tooru, and closes out the day by drunkenly dropping his phone into a sewer grate.
thoughts: so funny. so sososoosso genuinely funny. the tone is so snappy and iwaizumi honestly just sounds like a confused teenager (which he is in this) and it gets extra points for including a lot of american culture that a lot of the other iwaoi college au ones don’t include for like. obvious reasons lol.
Something Borrowed
Word count: 16k
Summary: In which Oikawa and Iwaizumi have always been a foregone conclusion to everyone else, but a massive, unanswered question to one another.
thoughts: iwaoi roommates thats abo but it’s like. mentioned twice. whiny and possessive oikawa makes an appearance in this but it’s done really well
things that change, things that stay the same
Word count: 8k
Summary: Oikawa realizes he’s in love with his best friend; it sucks for a while. (But only for a little while.)
thoughts: high school getting together!! my second iwaoi fic ever and this one is just. so sweet. just an unsure oikawa realizing iwaizumi might be more than someone he wants as a best friend. this fic is honestly really really lovely.
galaxies, within you
Word count: 21k
Summary: Hajime and Tooru move in together at the start of university. Too bad they’re stuck with the two gremlins that haunt their apartment.
thoughts: ok this fic was so funny. theyre uni roommates and matsuhana just come fuck shit up and they all act like idiots together even though they go to different schools. and this really throws me back to university days.
Thirty Years and Change (the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad)
Word count: 19k
thoughts: pro! oikawa and iwaizumi haven’t been close for a while until oikawa invites iwaizumi to go to the games with him. there’s a lot of frustration and pining and actually talking about feelings (aka iwaizumi losing his mind and getting advice from people like akaashi)
when it starts to rain, they go inside
Word count: 33k
Summary: “Where?” starts Iwaizumi.“ My parent’s old lakehouse, silly, didn’t you hear me the first time?” OR: Oikawa takes Iwaizumi to his lakehouse for two weeks, post-graduation.
thoughts: this was actually my first iwaoi fic which is funny bc the author doesn’t even like oikawa much and i didnt even ship anything in haikyuu before i read this fic and now im in iwaoi hell. oikawa is really frustrating in this in that it’s basically a really good character analysis on how oikawa comes off as a Mean person all the time bc he’s manipulative and there’s some explicit content
shiver
Word count: 16k
Summary: Oikawa was always the brave one. Hajime just followed two paces behind.
thoughts: iwaoi roommates with oikawa admitting his feelings first back when they were in middle school and iwaizumi putting that thought on the backburner until. obviously. things happen.
Desperado
word count: 80k
thoughts: one of my favorite aus. it’s all from kyoutani’s perspective and it’s almost so au that they’re original characters (if that makes sense). basically iwaoi matsuhana are ex-grifters except iwaoi are estranged and daishou somehow brings everyone back together. excellent world building and reading the pov from someone not involved with the iwaoi drama was refreshing
sing with me a song of conquest and fate
word count: 26k
thoughts: a mythical kings au that’s just. so pretty. iwaizumi ends up becoming oikawa’s servant for some reason and the world building is a+ because you can feel the trust and frustration from both of them build
Atsukita
dreams of me and you
word count: 10k (incomplete)
my second atsukita fic that rly sent me down atskt hell ;; what is essentially post-break up when atsumu gets signed to msby and he’s just Pining and sad for the most part. but the established relationship pre-break up was written really nicely because it just fits my hc of them just being domestic and atsumu being blatantly head over heels
take me home
word count: 4k
i read this this morning and it wrecked me. domestic relationship atsukita?? sign me up
No time like the rest of my life
word count: 19k
mythology au with kita as a regular person and rest of inarizaki as fox spirits! it’s cute and the world building is absolutely lovely but it is an au so they might seem ooc but their core character values are still there
wild blue yonder
word count: 6k
literally full of similes and metaphors and it’s more of an abstract read i guess? but it’s so beautiful and soft and this is exactly how i imagine their relationship
reap and sow
word count: 8k
atsumu confesses and kita ignores him and it’s a couple years after the fact and it’s mostly just weirdly domestic almost roommate like except for the fact that atsumu makes it clear he likes kita LOL. they’re really in character for this!
weightless souls
word count: 2k
pillow talk before atsumu’s first game! the atsumu pov and voice is amazing
if we were both alone
word count: 7k
now this was actually my first atskt fic that sent me down this rare pair hell. it’s an explicit chat fic (both tropes i usually try to avoid) but atsumu types like me (except for the nsfw parts alksfjd) so i guess i like. feel appreciation LMAO.
if you do read like any of these fics pls let me know so we can discuss

Ask The Party God - Timeline
the pre-terezi-gang timeline post is here
height references over here
Tumblr media
hi, im jade! everyones favorite party goddess and trans doggy girl~ but you already know that! if youre reading this, it means youre interested in learning more about my reality, because paradox space is fucking weird like that and you cant really be sure all the time
as far as im aware, everything up to the point where we beat the game happened without deviations from the alpha timeline? so this is what rose has talked about as a ‘terminal timeline’, or ‘post-canon’, or whatever the hell that is supposed to mean
we got to earth-c, and i settled in the troll kingdom because trolls are cool, dave and karkat were in the neighborhood, and the caverns are close by so i can visit rose and kanaya speedily as well! i still do have my old tower out on an island, with my workshop and garden, but i almost never sleep in it, too far away and isolated from everyone...
then one day i found this old active server in the furthest ring keeping tumblr active and i thought, hey, why not have some fun? ;D
as for the others...
Tumblr media
my darling sis june egbert! she lives in the consort kingdom, but has been thinking about relocating elsewhere lately! she went through a rough patch right after the game, unsure of what to do and full of all sorts of doubts and questions, but shes doing a lot better nowadays! specially now that terezi is back, shes been a lot more peppy and hanging around with the lalondes particularly!
Tumblr media
rose rose rose rose~ happily married to her wife kanaya, duh, but that doesnt make her any less of a flirty cutie! a while back she got really sick for a bit, and weve been keeping an eye on her just in case it happened again, but its been all good ever since! she helps kanaya at the caverns a bunch, which makes her schedule busy busy... and you didnt hear this from me, buuuut words out on the street that she and kanaya may be warming to the idea of having a kid! <3 well see how that goes!
Tumblr media
one cool dude~ daves a little bit of a shut-in honestly! and honestly i dont blame him? he must be tired after all the timeline and time travel shenanigans, so he spends a good chunk of his time hanging out in his and karkats house! hes kind of awkward about opening up with feelings and stuff, and ive been trying to nudge him to be more open for a while! but with all the craziness thats been going down lately, and more people coming and going and getting together, hes starting to consider things he hadnt before~ hopefully, some specific someones? ;)
Tumblr media
janey! my uh... ecto-mom, technically, although we see each other more like cousins than anything else! she still owns crockercorp, but ever since jasprose has been around, she has been spending a lot more time at home and just hanging out with her friends, which really, sounds a lot healthier than the big business thing she had going on a while back! she enjoys teaching me baking stuff, but doesnt have much patience for my decorating skills ;p
Tumblr media
grandpa! and grandson technically, hehe, jakes kind of a weird case, hes a mixture of a shut-in, a celebrity and an adventurer! he can spend up to weeks at a time without leaving his manor, but then hell have full weeks of interviews and hiking, and thats not to say anything of when he and dirk put out another episode or two of their dumb comedy talkshow... hes often busy with stuff, but hes still a good pal and can clear his schedule in seconds if we need him for something!
Tumblr media
one sweet nb dude! rox really is... something else, really! fun to tag along at a party, fun to chill at home playing games, fun to talk about more serious stuff and open up with him, he really is just solid as they come! hes been hanging out a lot more with june since she got out of her depressive slump, but sometimes i wonder if junebug finds weird to get flirty with roxy, considering im pretty sure we made out in front of her at some point or two... hehehe
Tumblr media
dirk! if daves a bit of a shut-in, hes a shut-in times two, which is weird because youd think someone stuck in post-apocalyptic earth for so long would want to hang out more? not to say he DOESNT, though! hes around jake often enough, and keeps close to jane, roxy and dave specially! we dont see each other too often, but we HAVE been messing around with robots and planning out to upgrade our respective self-bots for funsies!
Tumblr media
aradia! we only met briefly in dreams for the longest time, but i knew already that she was a riot! she came with terezis group after she finally found vriska, and seems pretty happy just... kind of... being around and watching shenanigans ensue! i actually dont know where she lives, but she drops by occasionally, because im apparently pretty ‘fun’... cant say i disagree ;)
Tumblr media
sollux is blind, and not dead, and WILL kick you in the shins if you keep prying about how exactly he ended up like that, which is fair enough! he spends a good chunk of his time with aradia, and im not sure if theyre dating or not...? but hes been around the other trolls a bunch! specially kanaya, apparently theyre good friends that go way back! i guess they both DO style their hair similarly, with the side spike thingies...
Tumblr media
the other half of the dave-kat duo! swooooon~ really though, i cant remember the last time i said “dave” or “karkat” without talking about the other shortly after... buuut theyre just roomies, and hell get awkward and grumpy if you even so slightly IMPLY otherwise, despite the fact everyone knows they fall asleep leaning against each other during friday movie night! roooolling my eyes~ with the rest of the living trolls having arrived, hes been a lot more willing to go outside, which im glad for! its healthy to get some fresh air from time to time, and specially hang out with friends!
Tumblr media
oh-la-la, miss maryam-lalonde herself! kanayas the matriarch of the caverns, and quite the busy gal, having taken it upon herself to supervise her entire species reproduction and well-being... in my opinion, she needs a good vacation from time to time, and to be less of a workaholic! >:o ive been helping her occasionally in the caverns, and as of late weve begun trying to mess around with ectobiology for some troll-human crossing experiments with... not good results so far... but hey, rome wasnt built in a day!
Tumblr media
terezis back, yes! after spending YEARS out there looking for vriska, she managed to find her and come back, the madwoman! personally im not sure why anyone would go to such lengths for... her... but also, its not my bond, not my place to speak, she obviously really loves her a bunch! with vriska no longer lost in the middle of the furthest ring, shes started to catch up with everything going on with earth-c, and i think shes really going to like being around! specially with how much june and the rest have missed her ;)
Tumblr media
troublemaker extraordinaire herself! shes... well, shes vriska, im pretty sure she stole that eyepatch from sollux? so you just know she up to no good already >:/ speaking of her eyepatch, im not sure WHY shes wearing it? whatever kinda wound she got, she doesnt like mentioning it, despite bragging about defeating english at every chance she gets! terezi says they found her popping in and out of consciousness in the furthest ring with some messy wounds, and that shed probably been hovering out there after the fight for years... doesnt seem to have humbled her in the slightest <.<
Tumblr media
callieeeee! theyre super sweet and wonderful but also really shy and awkward! they live with roxy but manage to outdo dirk in terms of shut-in-ness... they also totally like roxy but is unsure about approaching those feelings considering the whole species thing and whatever, ive been trying to get them to open up for a while now! weve written fanfic together and drawn grids, so i can definitely tell theres some attraction there, even if theyre afraid of acting upon it just yet <3
Tumblr media
jaspie is roses bane, and the one cat that made me get used to their smell enough that i dont bark at them instantly anymore! im pretty sure she crashes at janes often, and is just as outgoing and flirty as i am around earth-c parties and bars, which is saying something honestly! i wont let her dethrone me as the party god, though >:)
Tumblr media
and finally davepeta! theyre staying with june for the time being until they can get settled around and see what they want to do here! theyve also dropped by dave and karkats a bunch, which i most certainly dont mind! i definitely appreciate some help in bringing a romantic vibe into those twos lives~ ;o
and thats about it! theres also the nannasprites and tavrosprite and arquius, but they pop by so sporadically and rarely that i dont know what theyre doing a majority of the time... we lost track of gamzee after the session so hopefully hes totally gone, and we havent heard any message from caliborn in years... and with the furthest ring broken and the black hole sealed, leaving a weird white empty space right in the middle of reality, im not sure what our chances of bringing back the other trolls are :( but still, we keep living on happily over here and having our fun slice of life ending together!
id say after everything weve gone through, we deserve a big break, dont we? hehehe <3
also, particularly important events that happen and are recorded in this blog will be tagged as timeline shenanigans!

jenkai discourse in retrospection
 (long post)
to take a slightly more light hearted break from all the updates regarding the burning sun case, I propose a discourse of jxk in retrospection after gaining all the new knowledge exposed by the media recently
dont read if you dont want to, if you read please dont come attack me for posting what I want on my own blog 🥰
In no way is what I type facts, and I am NOT comparing burning sun case with jxk (jxk is so insignificant and jxk is not a criminal case) yet I will make references to what the media and companies are capable of doing as proven by the exposure from the b. sun case regarding similar behaviours.
---
we now know that the kpop world is not what some once thought - an ideal fairytale land where idols/ the media never lie to us.
The truth:
We finally realize for sure that in korean ent. industry, sexual favours (in exchange for sponsors, promotion via media manipulation, basically fame and safety), offering prostitutes services... all in all using SEX is commonly used in return for connections / power / protection from the 'higher ups'.
why did jxk happen?
I propose: to cover yg x jni sex/sexual activities and jni has sponsors rumours (updated). After knowing yg is to a certain degree (personal assumption: large extent) involved in B.Sun and gangnam clubs, it makes sense to suspect that the jni rumour could be real. look up yg's past history, how he obtained his wife (emphasis, obtain). 12 years older yg 'fell in love' the moment he saw his wife as a second year middle school girl, recruited her at 16, ruined her career and married her. who knows how exactly yg treats his younger girl employees? Who is there to protect them?
Tumblr media
but its just a 'groundless' rumour why was yg desperate?
to propose reasons: 1) it could be real, if so he HAS to camouflage it before it blows up further. 2) even if its not real, he didnt want to put bp's and his own name's reputation at stakes since bp is his most money earning group right now 3) if he doesnt make a deal with dispatch, who ofc are capable of digging deeper and they hate yg (proven by their ability to obtain kkt chats and exposing b.sun evidences) to supply them a fake scandal to cover ygxjni... dispatch WILL expose him. (also keep in mind jni has other sponsor rumour that might or not be true). and 4) - suggested by anon: yg could be taking precautions before b.sun scandal blows up. As we know b.sun revolves around sex crimes, Yg must get rid of the 'boss had sex with employee' label before b.sun blows up. Or else he will get dragged, it would be like adding oil on fire.
this theory is reinforced by allshitpop stating a media outlet discriminately announced 'the yg x jni rumour was false.' why purposefully mention it when no one asked?
Tumblr media
but why ji?
main reason: hes an artist from sm. Yg desperately needed a scandal impacting enough to satisfy dispatch (releasing small unconvincing sandals will discredit dispatch's liability and reputation. ) But what to do when none of yg's male artists are popular enough to create a fuss nor any male groups's careers mature and stable enough to withstand the scandal pressure from the general public? the obvious solution is ofc to beg other big companies - sm or bighxt.
Most popular boy groups atm is still btx and ekso. honestly yg wouldve prefered btx due to their crazy fame, and jni will be their first dating scandal... the reactions would be DRAMATIC. yet in contrast to ekso, btx didnt really need to take that risk in hopes for more popularity. (rmb there would always be adverse effects when being involved in a dating scandal despite positive reactions and large no. of supporters). Also, even if btx has any scandals to cover, bighxt's recent merge with cj-enm (described as 'a powerhouse' aka very huge powerful company) means btx's any potential scandals can be taken care of for now. so that leaves ekso.
Who in ekso fits ji's image the most?
(hence will recieve 'positive' reactions and make them more aesthetically believable. without a doubt, its ji and his on going promoted sex appeal.) Reasons for ji and not other members: 1. theres no harm in giving him a beard (personal belief, ignore point 1. if you think homosexuality/kaisoo pairing isn't plausible) 2. to raise his popularity for his potential upcoming solo. 3. if someone who was involved in dating scandal before came up again, they probably predicts the pairing to be more positively recieved --> more supportors and a more hyped response from the public.
but none of that happened, the scandal was managed poorly. The paris evidence was made in a rush (dates didnt match) park pictures were too ambiguous (again dates and time didnt match), even when dispatch posted a pic of ji in a carpark supposedly came back from hawaii to give jni presents after landing - we learned from ji's own ig live that the day he wore the outfit in the photo, he had already returned to korea a few days ago, was around town shopping and went no where near the airport. Besides these failed attempts there was absolutely no other proof that jxk is real.
why was it poorly managed?
bc this is a rare collab between two big rival companies. Yg was the one begging at the start yet sm wasnt able to take full control of this scandal. Conflicts and disagreements upon makng many decisions were highly likely to occur between these two rivals.
The break up
a lot of fans were shocked when jxk broke up just after 25 days. (brand new record). what else is weird?
sm personally confirmed jxk broke up abruptly. Usually when couples break up, fan rumours start to float around first. But not this time, no rumours surfaced yet sm all of a sudden definitively stated that jxk broke up. Back then I already predicted it maybe because yg or bp got into trouble hence sm wanted to distance themselves as far as possible. I still stand by that idea.
Sm must get away from yg and b.sun case for the sake of theirs/ekso's reputation. sm def dont want to be dragged into the mess. Remember, sm as a huge company themselves def have their own dirt to hide, getting dragged means huge consequences if the investigators target them.
Tumblr media
so why did sm agree in the first place? I assume its bc altho sm knew that yg had dirt to hide, they did not know it was something as serious, severe and big as b.sun case / tax evading case. Therefore, what are the coincidences that sm announced breakup shortly before dispatch sparked reinvestigation into b.sun by posting crucial evidences? (the first chats)
Tumblr media
its highly possible that dispatch warned sm, (which makes them sound like the good guys but no. remember sm is dispatch's source of money and partnered with them many times. b.sun indeed aint directly related to sm, (as for now) dispatch has no reason to ruin sm) Or, sm could have found out through other sources that b.sun case will blow up soon. they quickly cut their collab with yg early, and announced break up probably without telling yg first. (since telling them possibly means giving dispatch away).
Tumblr media
this also suggests that dispatch hates yg but anyway.
The benefits of ji
Comparing the two, jni seems to be the one who gained more from the scandal. She got most of media and the public's attention. there is an explanation for this - shes the 'rookier' one, and the trendier one out if the two since bp is still rising when ekso has reached their plateau. However, ji did gain his own lesser share of attention (indicated by the gained followers on his ig).
I have always said that when idols agree to be involved in a scandal, they are likely to get a 'reward.' but now thinking about it, agreeing to scandals is part of ji's contract, rewards are bonus but not obligations. Besides, the scandal itself supposedly helps ji gain popularity for solo and gains a beard, sm didnt NEED to give him more bonus. Often when idols get more modelling jobs / solo etc after scandals is bc sm uses the risen populairty from scandal as an opportunity to maximise profit by giving them more jobs, it might not be bc sm wants 'pamper' them.
Plan cut short
unfortunately for ji who is not getting his solo soon, the jxk plan flopped due to poor management, and was cut short due to b.sun case. The scandal did not fulfill what it was supposed to do and ended prematurely . Followed by the apparent troubles in sm negotiating contract terms with ekso, (delayed ekso schedules),chxn suddenly getting a solo, and the blowing up of b.sun case, ji might have missed his chance again. Or hes simply still preparing.
to summarize i want to clarify a few things.
- none of these are facts, but an overall picture forming one huge speculation.
- I dont try to defame bp or shame them. i also am not trying to state that girl artists def had sex with the hihgher ups. b.sun has shown us that men always have more power over women, and they rarely get protection.
- I want people to realize the dark side of kpop. The kpop industry is full of conspiracies, media manipulation and lies. What you see on tv is not who your idols are portrayed to be on camera. Don't impose your ideal vision on them and hurt others when reality suggests otherwise.
side note: this theory conveyed reinforcement to statements I've made before
- conspiracies are real and true. Look at all the dark and shady events involved in b.sun case
- media play, mass manipulation exist and are common practice.
- dispatch and sm collab and are partners on a case by case basis.
- idols lie on interviews all the time, their tv persona is different from the real them.
- companies offer protection for their idols
- it is indeed common practice to use one scandal to cover another
ANYTHING can happen in the world of the k ent industry. dont lightly dismiss any possibilities. We must analyse the sum of the situations - the full picture of any events before believing anything we are told.

Soaring light (elu, chapter 3)
Name: Soaring Light Fandom: Skam france Pairing: Lucas Lallemant/Eliott Demaury Tags: assassin!au, falling in love, angst, hurt/comfort Summary: Don’t get attached, do not engage in any physical contact… The list of rules were long, but Lucas had never been the one to follow orders. In fact, he might have broken all of them in just a week, all because of the piercing blue eyes staring at him from the assignment in his hands, and the charming, mysterious boy they belonged to. Chapter summary: Lucas thinks Eliott forgot all about him and watch Pirates of the Caribbean a few too many times to pass time.
prologue and chapter one&two can be found at the soaring-light tag at my blog, just click on the tag on this post. tumblr don’t wanna show my post in the search tag if I put in links… and on ao3 with the username thetimeisnow)
- Chapter 3.
When Lucas was 19, he met an older man at the bar. The man was dressed in a long, dark coat and a colorful hat and caught his attention in a second, mostly because of the odd choice of clothing.
The man waved Lucas over to his table, introduced himself and asked what he did for a living. Lucas found nothing weird or uncomfortable with the man’s behaviour, and he was also a bit tipsy.
The man told him he had been at the bar across the street, where Lucas worked at back then, a few times and had seen him him work, interact with customers and dealt different situations in a way he found fascinating. Lucas had never seen him before, but he did love compliments.
He had then asked him what he’d do for money, for a stable life. Lucas had, of course, laughed said anything because honestly, that’s how he felt at that point; had a low-pay job he hated and had to move within two months.
That night, Lucas had slipped a pill into an old man’s drink, having no idea what the pill did. A day later, he saw an article online about the strange death of the same man, and another day passed before he got his first contract sent with the post. He had put two and two together immediately.
After that, there was no way out. At first, he’d been terrified at every police car ringing in the distance, and as he receive his first reminder of his next mission, he realised the old man probably had proof he killed the guy at the bar and he had no other choice than to continue.
But as time and missions went by and he realised he wasn’t going to get caught; he grew comfortable. He was one of his boss’ best employees and well respected in their community. It was rare, for such a young age, he’d been told multiple times.
Therefore, Lucas had no idea why he went around, nervous like a man about to be hung (or something, but that reference was all he could think of after watching all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies three times to keep himself occupied) waiting for Eliott to text him.
Which he hadn’t. It had been four days.
He was scared at first, that he’d get in trouble with his boss, but he had been contacted by his right hand, a middle aged, rich woman from the more beautiful parts of Paris, and she told him that his boss understood the Eliott Demuary case was special and could take time. He had gotten an offer to change contract, but he nicely declined.
No one else could touch Eliott, except for him.
Two days after the bar, he had gotten a new follower on instagram. And nearly fell off the bed. He hesitated for around five hours before finally following Eliott back. He watched the video of his face a few (fifty) more times, considered writing him a DM, but then Yann slapped some sense into him and told him he had to pull himself together.
Lucas was sitting in his couch, phone upside down on his right. On his left side, a few pills were laying nicely on a folded paper. The easiest thing would be to find him in an exposed situation like before; at a bar, a club, a restaurant. The pills took between five hours to one day to work, depending on how many he slipped in the drink. They dissolved with first touch of water and didn’t taste anything which made them very easy to slip into whatever Eliott would be drinking.
He would rather not watch him die. Maybe he should lock himself up for a week or two after poisoning him so he didn’t have to see any newspapers when Paris learnt their favorite model was dead. Lucas swallowed thickly. It would be fine.
Then, his phone buzzed. He was lucky no one was there to watch him, because he threw himself over it in an embarrassingly fast speed.
-
From: Unknown number
Hey
-
Lucas stared at the screen.
-
To: Unknown number
Who’s this?
-
Did he answer too fast? Maybe it was someone who got his number wrong. Maybe it was not Eliott.
-
From: Unknown number
Eliott. You know, the cute one?
-
To: Eliott
I’m not sure I know you.
-
Eliott could read sarcasm, right? Lucas bit his lower lip nervously.
-
From: Eliott
Funny guy ;) sorry it took so long to write. i didn’t know what to say-
-
To: Eliott
So you settled with “hey”?
-
Was he being rude? No. He was being funny, right? What if Eliott found him incredibly boring and decided he wasn’t worth answering?
-
From: Eliott
I’m creative like that. Do you wanna grab coffee with me?
-
To: Eliott
I don’t drink coffee. wanna come over for gaming?
-
Considering how much he’d been alone at home, playing stupid multiplayer games for a long time now, he had to show off his skills to someone.
-
From: Eliott
On the first date? ;) you could’ve just said so x
-
To: Eliott
NOT what I meant!!!!! Fine. Coffee!!
-
Lucas was blushing. And extremely happy no one was there to see it, or hear the shocked gasp that passed his lips as he realised his mistake.
-
From: Eliott
sure ;) two hours?
-
Lucas glanced at the clock on the wall. It was 11am now. Okay, that could work, he just had to shower, dry his hair, get it to stick in place, decide what to wear, cry for a bit, decide how he should kill the guy and preferably spend one hour yelling. It could work.
-
To: Eliott
okay. where?
-
From: Eliott
ill pick you up, be outside ;)
-
Lucas wasn’t a fan of the winky face.
-
To: Eliott
do you know where i live?
-
From: Eliott
haha lucas, be ready in two.
-
To: Eliott
you didnt answer, do you know where i live??
-
Lucas didn’t get any other answer. Great. Fantastic. He glanced down at the pills next to him. A few images flashed in his head from the guy he’d seen fall down on his knees two months back, his last kill. A middle aged white man who had gotten away with raping his own daughter. It was his ex wife, mother of the girl, who wanted him dead.
Lucas obliged. He didn’t even feel the slightest ounce of regret over kills like that, but he couldn’t understand what Eliott could have done to get a price that high on his head. Sure, Lucas didn’t really know the guy, but he still felt in his soul that Eliott could never be capable of doing anything like that. He had seen evil in the eyes of the men he’s killed, but Eliott’s eyes had no trace of it.
Maybe a rival? Someone who wanted his followers, his money? He surely had to be rich. For a rich person, the amount of money put on his head might not be too much. That was probably the case, Lucas thought, he was just overthinking this.
He hesitated a moment, but then he put one pill in a small plastic bag and put it in his pocket. Just in case he got a good opportunity to slip it into his coffee.
Eliott was just on time. Exactly two hours later, his phone vibrated on the table. Lucas was sitting, newly showered, nervous enough he feared his stomach was going to turn upside down and then he’d puke it out. Disgusting.
He stared down at the text.

From: Eliott
here
-
It was just one word, but he still felt like he was going to throw up. Okay, he could do this. It wasn’t that bad, it would be fine. It would be great. If he just managed to keep his heart inside his chest until he was downstairs, it would all work out. There was no good explanation to why his legs were shaking as he walked down the stairs, nor why he was sweating more than normal.
It was just a coffee. It was nothing. It was fine.
Eliott was standing, leaning back on the hood on, what Lucas assumed, was his car. A black, newer Audi model; just what Lucas expected from him. It looked fresh, and so did Eliott, hair a beautiful mess on top of his head, a black hoodie under a brown-ish jacket. He stood gazing up in the sky, like he was posing for a shot. Lucas stopped behind the door out, just to look at him for amoment extra.
Eliott hadn’t noticed him yet, he was tapping with his foot on the ground and if Lucas didn’t know better he’d say he looked nervous. Lucas swallowed thickly, giving himself a confident nod and opened the door to step out in the warm weather. Eliott looked up; a sweet, big grin spreading across his face and Lucas almost melted into a pile of despair on the ground.
Fuck. This wasn’t good. His stomach made him feel things that he wasn’t supposed to feel. Like, extreme fucking attraction. Pure, strong and annoyingly exciting attraction.
“Hey”, Eliott said softly.
“Hi.” Lucas stood in front of him, hands in his pockets.
“You look great.”
Lucas watched him for a little too long before replying. “Thanks”, he said awkwardly, “you too.”
Eliott just kept grinning as he gestured over to the door behind him. “Hop in.”
Lucas nodded, “so where are we going?”
Eliott fucking winked. “You’ll see.”
They drove in silence. Well, it wasn’t complete silence because Eliott was blasting loud, extremely horrible music. Lucas wasn’t going to say anything, though, everyone liked what they liked, but he was pretty sure his ears were going to start bleeding at any moment.
They left town, driving down an empty road towards where only empty fields would fill his sight for kilometers. He glanced over at the confident man next to him, one hand on the wheel and knee bouncing up at down in rhythm with the music. This was how people got murdered, Lucas thought, which was funny because he was the last person who should be be nervous about getting murdered since he killed people for a living.
Technically, if he brought a knife, he could just stab Eliott right there. No one would notice. If he burnt the body, took the bones and set the car on fire, he’d be good to go.
It would be a waste, though, because Eliott looked hot. Leaning back against his seat, sunglasses on, hair in a mess and singing along to the few words his terrible music was producing; Lucas couldn’t stop staring. He couldn’t understand how he went to the same school as this guy and never even saw him, or even knew this walking piece of art breathed the same, sweaty school air.
Eliott glanced at him and Lucas looked away. The beautiful sound of Eliott’s loud laugh filled the air and made his music sound even worse. What was even happening with him, why was he like this? Who was he?
What the hell was he doing to Lucas?
Eliott parked next to what looked like an empty barn, the first building they’d seen for a good fifteen minutes, but it was recently painted in a beautiful red color. Lucas thought he could hear the clinking of glass from inside. Eliott turned off the music and stepped out of the car without a word, and gestured Lucas towards the front of the building.
“What’s this place?”
“The best café in France”, Eliott said proudly.
A few cherry trees were randomly placed on the short side of the building, and outside the barn door, a big, white dog was lying. He lifted his head lazily when he saw them arriving, but made no effort to greet them more than a slow wag of his fluffy tail. Lucas loved dogs. Just the sight of the beautiful white giant made his heart skip a beat.
“That’s Maxie”, Eliott pointed, “he’s supposed to be guarding but he’s not very good at his job.”
“He’s adorable”, Lucas grinned, “hi, buddy.” He ran his fingers through the soft fur. The dog closed his eyes and huffed out a breath. “What breed is this?”
“Slovensky cuvac”, Eliott replied, “or something like that.”
Lucas was sure his eyes were shaped like hearts as he glanced up at Eliott. “Wow. Okay, what does this place got to offer?”
Eliott opened the big wooden door. Lucas threw a last glance around the beautiful landscape, the big, empty fields and the slim dirty road leading up to the bar, before entering.
The inside was just as impressive. Another big, white dog was sleeping under a weirdly placed chair just next to them as they stepped in, and in front of them, what looked like an old stable without horses, showed the way to another door. The walls were filled with old paintings of women in dresses and men in armor and surrounded by beautiful nature, and a few paintings of animals. He recognized racoons, cats, foxes and a few unidentified species, but they were cute either way.
Eliott pointed towards one of them. “I painted them.”
Lucas raised his brows, “really?”
The proud smile on his face told Lucas he was absolutely telling the truth. “Yep!”
“They’re good”, he said, nodding encouraging.
“You think so?” Eliott asked, his voice genuinely surprised.
“Yeah, absolutely!” Lucas agreed because it was the truth. He’d definitely buy one. “Maybe you can make me one.”
Eliott stopped mid step, watching at him closely. Lucas shifted, thinking he said something bad. “What?”
“Hedgehog”, Eliott said and laughed softly, “that’s what I’d make you.”
Lucas raised his brows. “I’m a hedgehog?”
Eliott huffed, “yes. I’ll paint you something and you’ll see. Now, come on!” He grabbed Lucas arm, wrapping his fingers around his wrist and ran down the old stable. Lucas felt like a disney princess, and he was absolutely loving it.
Behind he next door, a small, cute café opened up. With only five tables, Lucas realised this was probably only for the need-to-know-guests, and not just anyone. A third, big white dog of the same breed was lying under one the table, raising his head when they entered. He barked. A deep, loud sound.
To the left the counter was placed, different buns and creations were piled up to show off the different options to eat. Footsteps were heard, and a blonde head looked out through the door leading in to what Lucas guessed was the kitchen.
“Eliott!” the lady exclaimed happily and hurried around the counter to greet them. “It’s good to see you! Didn’t hear you come in, dogs didn’t react!”
“They like me now”, Eliott laughed and hugged her. “Lucas, this is Alison. Alison, this is Lucas.”
The blonde beauty, Alison, grinned at him with white teeth. She reached up and kissed his cheek “Hi! Nice to meet you. Are you the boyfriend?”
Lucas stared at her, stuttering out an embarrassing whiny sound. “Wha- no. No, I’m not- what? No.”
She laughed loudly, holding her hands up in defense. Eliott was grinning too. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to assume. What can I get you?”
“Hot chocolate”, Lucas said dumbfoundedly.
“And two cheesecake, lemon. Please?” Eliott gestured towards the table for two closest to the big window the room. Lucas sat down without another word, which was probably for the best since he was incredibly talented in embarrassing himself.
Eliott filled a glass of water and followed him, sliding down on his chair and resting his face in his hands. God, what an actual angel sent from heaven, Lucas thought, how was he going to kill this guy? Just as the thought passed through his head, Eliott excused himself to the bathroom and left him alone. Lucas stared at the water glass in front of him.
Just slip the pills in. They’ll dissolve, no one will ever know and he’d be dead within 24 hours. Just put the pills in, get the money and forget about Eliott Demaury and his stupid, perfect smile and his soft hair he so badly wanted to run his fingers through.
Just slip the pills in the glass.
But Lucas couldn’t. He could only stare, stare for how many minutes it took for Eliott to come back in the room, give a half-hearted greeting and sit down again. Lucas continued to stare at the lost opportunity and did his best to ignore the growing lump in his throat.
“So”, Eliott smiled, bringing his attention back to reality, “tell me about yourself.”

fundamentally i feel like im just having that age-old crisis of “am i a lesbian or am i a trans man” and like actually i didnt realize that until i just wrote it but even just marking it as that feels wrong.
because i’m not a man, i have never been a man, i pursued the concept of being a man because i just needed to depart from the inevitable of me Always Just Being A Girl.  i did it to be different, i did it to be strange, and i’m not really exactly sure why i ever...did everything i did in an attempt to transition in the first place.  but it felt like nobody would understand unless i was coming “back down” from something far more severe.  i wanted the idea of me having come from “masculinity” to be the collective knowledge.  i would never be “transmasculine” because i was always “supposed to” begin with masculinity but only in energy, not physiologically, because i know i look like precisely WHAT i am supposed to look like.  i wanted testosterone to be a psychedelic, something i could do to change how everyone else saw me from the beginning.  i didnt want to become a man, i already wanted to be one.  but i didnt want to be “a man”.  it always felt to me like i’d had it given to me and now had to be feminine, but that’s not how the world saw me.
It’s jarring because, even when things started going down with my mother, when we were having the problems of “why would you ever want to be a man”, I told her it’s like...I didn’t.  I just wanted people to call me Lukas.  I didn’t want the pronouns to mean anything.  I didn’t want to be a man, I didn’t want any of that.  I just wanted to have already been referred to as masculine my whole lie, so I could be feminine now, why wouldn’t everyone just see me as a man before that?
Like I want to be feminine.  I want to look like a girl.  I want to be pretty.  But I want everyone to know I’m a man before that.  I just want the gender marker change.  I just want the name change.  I just want everyone I interact with in any capacity to look at me and know, instantly, That’s A Man, but for my appearance to be distinctly feminine.  I don’t want to be a man.  I don’t want to be any of those things.  I don’t want to think of myself as someone’s husband.  It just doesn’t sound right to me, but wife doesn’t either.  It’s not that I want some strange new term, I just don’t really want to think about things like that.  That’s why I avoid commitments is I don’t want to be referred to as one thing or another.  I don’t want to be someone’s significant other because I’m not your husband or your wife.  Or anything else.
So it’s strange, because it feels like I don’t want these things.  It feels like a fear of being known, of being recognized, because nobody understands?  Which is funny.  Because yes, fundamentally, that’s what this has been this whole time.  A fear of not being understood.  So I wish I could change everyone’s perception of everything, in every capacity, so that way I can be seen the way I want.
I think it’s interesting.  I also think my problem of “what am i” comes down to just that.  I want to be heard, I want my exact identity to be seen.  I wonder what’ll satiate that.

My insurance company doesnt want to pay!!?
I was struck by an uninsured driver on 02-10-11. Because the driver who struck me was uninsured I was forced to file a claim with my insurance company(Omni Insurance). The car was towed to CJ's collision at 6128 n beechwood Philadelphia, pa ,19138 on 02-11-11. Phone number 215-848-2836. On 02-14-11 Omni insurance sent out an appraiser to evaluate the vehicle. They then faxed an estimate on 02-15-11 totaling $5300 to CJ's collision shop. I went to the collision shop on 02-15-11 to sign paperwork giving them permission to work on my car. They then began the repairs. On 02-18-11 the insurance company then deemed my car a total loss. The vehicle is a 2005 Nissan Altima SL with 96,477 miles. The NADA value for the vehicle is 10,995. According to Omni insurance a car is deemed a total loss when the repairs reach 70% of the value of the vehicle. Omni insurance valued my car at 7,415. They then proposed a settlement offer of 5826.40. They deducted 975.00 in prior damages(which I disagree with) and 1000.00 my deductible. The settlement offer included 386.40 in sales tax. After negotiating on 02-28-11 they proposed an offer of 7835.30. The value they gave my car was 9255. Again 975.00 was deducted and my 1000.00 deductible. They including sales tax and tags/registration fee in the offer. I accepted the offer out of desperation because they also stopped paying for the rental car I was driving on 02-28-11. I work, attend school and have a child my schedule requires that I have a car so I paid out of pocket for a rental car until 03-07-11, expecting the payment to be issued to my lien holder by then so I could purchase another car. I contacted them on 03-07-11 inquiring about my payment and was informed they did not pick the vehicle up from the collision shop therefore they were not issuing a payment. The collision shop gave them a bill of 1750.00 for the repairs they did and the storage fees. The insurance company disagrees with this and refuses to pick the vehicle up and issue my payment. They have also stated this may come out of my settlement offer. The insurance company already has the title to the car and all the necessary paperwork to the vehicle but refuses to issue a payment. It has been a month since I filed my claim and I can no longer afford to pay for a rental especially since it seems I will have to purchase a new vehicle. The insurance company is low balling me and also forcing me to pay for repairs they approved then backed out of.""

I repeatedly corrected the insurance companies...yes BOTH of them...saying that I AM AN INSURED DRIVER and I was driving my car. I had no passengers. I was in an accident with another single driver with no passengers. Eventually it seemed like everything was fine. The claim closed on May 2 and I thought it was all over. ""Dealt with car accident outside of insurance company, how can I chase up the receipt?""
On Christmas Day I went out in the car to pick up some drinks from the petrol station and on the way out of the station I bumped someones car. I stopped and got out to give them my details (name, address and phone number) and then went home. In the panic of the moment I think I just wanted to get home as it was Christmas Day and I didn't hang around to take photos, ask for witnesses or discuss options with the other driver, which in hindsight I regret and realise was stupid. When I got home, the guy called me up and, again with the stupid mistakes, I said that I would rather settle outside of insurance; the driver wasn't keen on the idea at first and wanted to settle through the insurance company but I couldn't call them until the next week as they were closed for Christmas. He texted me the next day saying that he was going to get a quote from a garage and got back to me later with a quote for 400 through a 'friend of a friend's garage'. At this point I was a bit suspicious and the amount seemed very high for what I thought was not a lot of damage but at the same time he said that he either wanted to do it like that or through the insurance and I really didn't want to loose my no-claims discount as insurance for young male drivers is very high without the no-claims. In the end I decided to pay him, not without a certain bitterness owing to the fact that he was pressuring me for an immediate decision, which also made me suspicious. Having sent the cheque for 400, he kept up communications initially and let me know that he'd received it. He said that he would send me a copy of the receipt from the garage for my records but once he received the cheque I never heard back and now cannot get a reply. Bit long-winded for a question but that's the background story, my question is two-fold: 1. Can I do anything about it? It's more the principle than the money that bothers me, I know that I caused damage to his car but I now suspect it wasn't as much as he claimed. 2. Does 400 sound like too much or should I stop worrying about it? I hit the back corner of his car with the back corner of mine, and he later told me that I had cracked the rear bumper, which needed replacing. I'm not sure of the make of the car but I think it may have been a Ford Fiesta or something similar. I would really appreciate any help as it's weighing on my mind... I don't like people walking over me. At least if the amount he claimed sounds reasonable I can put it down to him being a wanker but the amount claimed being fair and forget about the whole thing.""

Unemployment Insurance Question?

Every time I do, I get the same message of due to extremely high call volume, we cannot take your call at this time. Several friends suggested going to the local career center and ask about it there. The local career center told me that they now have extremely limited access to unemployment claims and to contact the Nashville claims center. I sent them an email as a last ditch effort to contact them a few days ago and have yet to receive a reply. Any suggestions?""

Does my mom HAVE to be on MY car insurance?
So here's the deal -- I am getting a new car soon and my mom wants me to get my own insurance so her bill doesn't go up (she normally pays $70/month, but once I was added to her policy the bill went up $85 -- and that was with just ONE car). And now that I am getting my own car, my mom knows that the insurance is going to sky rocket and that is why she wants me to have my own insurance. However -- according to all these insurance companies, my mom and I HAVE to add each other as drivers onto our policies since we live in the same household. My problem is this -- why is it that when I am getting a quote online and I add my mom as a driver (but have her EXCLUDED from the policy), the price is $1183 every 6 months, yet when I DON'T include her as a driver at all, the price drops down to $854? Do I HAVE to add my mom onto my car insurance even though she has her own policy with a different company and won't be driving my car -- ever? Seriously, the only time she will be in my car is when I am driving, and god forbid I do get into an accident, this insurance company covers myself and any relative that resides in the household. So would I REALLY have to add my mom onto my car insurance even though she won't be driving my car? I don't want to pay $400 more for someone who will never drive my car...""

If not my surname or my husband’s, could we call our child after a New Zealand volcano?
Franki Cookney and her husband didnt much like one another surnames, so now theyre having a baby theyve are determined to pick a brand-new one
When my husband, Rob, and I wedded last year, the question of what to do about our surnames scarcely participated our discussions. We are both writers, so our identifies are on every piece of work we do. That we would impede our own seemed a demonstrated. There was just one niggling mistrust. What would happen if we had children?
I had always had considered that we would just protrude both our reputations on birth certificates credential, but I knew this didnt quite resolve the problem. Whose call would go first? And which appoint would end up being used?
We could use a double-barrel identify, but didnt seem our surnames, Cookney and Davies, lent themselves to hyphenation. Whichever prescribe you have selected, the result is clunky and we were reluctant to saddle a child with it.
We could have just chosen whichever refer sounded best with our newborn given name. But in that scenario, one mother purposes up not sharing a surname with their child and neither of us missed that. Plus, Id listened too many narratives of mothers being agreed upon at airfield insurance because the epithets on their passports didnt competitor that of their children.
The conventional alternative of taking my husbands surname was never on the table. Fairly apart from the feminist principle of not was intended to relinquish my identity for his, I wasnt keen on the reputation. Rob supported this and was by no means offended. The misfortune was, he wasnt a fan of my name either. Its just a bit cumbersome, he said. Its virtually Cockney but not quite. Youre incessantly having to spell it out. We looked at our moms maiden mentions and our grandparents names but always ceased up back in the same plaza, feeling that it wasnt equal, that picking one side of their own families over another wasnt fair.
We hit on the idea of taking a brand-new name about a year ago when before our wed we went to write our wills. As we chatted to one of the attorneys, it transpired that he and his wife had done exactly this. Theres a fair bit of admin, but its good, it makes, he said , nod decisively. Unexpectedly, it didnt seem so preposterous. This wasnt some foolish rebellion or bohemian pretentiousness, this was something lawyers did!
We mooted it with pals, who were largely unfazed. What refer will you go for? was the thing they were most strange about. Good topic. Could we blend the letters of our identifies and develop something new, we amazed. Rosters were reached: Dents, Cave, Devine, Kinsey, Dacovnicks Cookies? Nothing of them fairly hit the mark.
As our wedding depicted nearer, we employed the appoint activity on a back burner. But when I became pregnant 3 months later, we were forced to look at developments in the situation afresh and decided to change tacking. How about a home? I recommended. Somewhere weve saw that we cherished. A backpacking stint before we got married had left us with batch to choose from but most sounded reasonably odd when attributed to a couple of ordinary Brits. Rob and Franki Tongariro owned a certain verve, but naming yourself after a New Zealand volcano would be ridiculous. And Zhangjiajie might make remembers of dazzling Chinese mountains, but imagine having to incantation it every time you booked a whisker appointment or called your internet provider. For a while Salento and Chaltn were on the schedule, after places available in Colombia and Argentina. But we werent convinced we are to be able pull off the patently Latino-sounding former and supposed the latter would result in a lifetime of chastising people who pronounced it Charlton.
Then Rob said, What about Stone Town? The beautiful old-fashioned town of Zanzibar City is where he had asked me to marry him. It instantly appeared right. Stone was straightforward but significant. It chimed good with both our first name and after a few weeks of trying it on with other reputations would work well with almost anything we chose for our baby. It was perfect: a solid name( with a potential for puns that was not failed on us) that felt like a constructive solution to our problem. We would keep our original surnames for undertaking and accept this new last name for our personal lives.
By law, all you need to do to change your reputation is, well, change it. Simply accepting and using your brand-new epithet is enough. Modernizing your accountings and accounts, nonetheless, requires a document of proof such as a union credential or, in our case, a deed poll. There is no official space of acquiring a deed ballot. You can write one yourself expending free templates from the internet, but shortfall of lucidity about the relevant procedures develops in some institutions demanding an original credential despite the fact that no such happen dwells. You can either fight it out or you can do what we did and pay 15 -2 0 for a company such as the Deed Poll Office to draw up the word on your behalf and periodical and stomp it on watermarked newspaper. Passed the roll of bodies and organisations you have to notify and the health risks statements over what constitutes an original certificate, this seemed a reasonable compromise.
Perhaps it was naive, but we didnt expect to meet with resistance. Uncertainty, perhaps. Intrigue, for certain. When it is necessary to getting married, we had trenched almost every institution proceeding, prohibiting the matrimony itself, and no one had wondered us. Surely this too would be seen as a modern updated information on an outdated habit. But where reference is announced our decided not to our families, the reaction was mixed.
Franki and Rob. Photograph: Christian Sinibaldi for the Guardian
While they understood our quagmire, the common refrain was that the child would lose the connection to its family history. Try as I might, I cant know what this is. To me, family history moves far deeper than ones refer. Its in accordance with the rules “were living”, our values, the gumption and shared event passed down through generations. It is part of the storytelling our parents did and its in the legends we, more, will tell and the beliefs we will share.
Our roots are not in our calls, they are in our natures. My grandmother, whose surname was Jones, is important to me not because of her reputation but because of her love. My great-grandmother, a midwife I never even encountered, let alone shared a name with, forms a part of my feel of identity. Why? Because of the road my own mother talks about her, because of the pictures she has painted in my head of that life, that family, that time.
Interestingly, the mention itself has also testified a sticking point, with a few people commenting that its bearing. Youre doing this really unusual thing but youve picked a really ordinary mention, said one colleague, as though by doing something different we are obliged to go the whole hog and announce ourselves Rob and Franki Thundercats.
In fact, the accessibility of the figure was something we reckoned would be used sell the idea. It is about to change “were in” naive there, too. My baby, a former primary school teacher, insisted that someone called Stone would be taunted. Another relative describing him as a dead weight of a name.
In my experience, children will come up with nicknames no matter what. I wasted often of my school years known as Franki Cookie while my first name was regularly elongated to Frankenstein, Frankincense or Frankfurter.
Never tell people your call options in advance, advised one pal( too late ). Its as if telling people in advance is inviting a exchange or consultation!
While my familys notions apparently matter to me, I suspect she might be right. Eventually, this is our decision, based on our requires, and I hope they will come to see it as a practical and positive step , not an irresponsible one.
Its almost impossible to get everyone on board, lawyer another friend, who changed her surname by deed poll in 2004. The project upset my granny but my dad, her son, understood. When I marriage my husband, he took my reputation. Im still not sure two brothers was 100% behind us, but when we had our first son, he was the first to be born into our empire. Im so excited that we are the first in our tree!
This is exactly how I seem. I love the idea that our child will be born into this new, specifically opted and carefully thought-out family name. And if one day he or she decides to change it either to something new or to one of our old-time family name we will fully support that.
Even when you change names, lineage going to be able be traced and, if nothing else, I like to think we will be looked back on as all those people who tried something new; who instead of preparing do with an unsatisfactory place, remembered creatively about how to solve it. Thats a family bequest Im glad with.

We hit on the idea of taking a new identify about a year ago when before our wedding we went to write our wills. As we chit-chat to one of the solicitors, it transpired that he and his wife had done precisely this. Theres a fair bit of admin, but its good, it cultivates, he said , nodding decisively. Abruptly, it didnt seem so outlandish. This wasnt some childish uprising or bohemian pretentiousness, this was something advocates did!
We mooted it with acquaintances, who were largely unfazed. What appoint will you go for? was the thing they were most curious about. Good topic. Could we blend the letters of our identifies and develop something new, we speculated. Rolls were drawn: Dents, Cave, Devine, Kinsey, Dacovnicks Cookies? Nothing of them quite hit the mark.
As our bridal sucked nearer, we employed the name game on a back burner. But when I became pregnant three months later, “were in” forced to look at developments in the situation anew and decided to change tack. How about a plaza? I proposed. Somewhere weve visited that we enjoyed. A backpacking stint before we got married had left us with slew to choose from but most sounded fairly bizarre when attributed to a couple of ordinary Brits. Rob and Franki Tongariro owned any particular vigour, but mentioning yourself after a New Zealand volcano would be ridiculous. And Zhangjiajie might conjure recognitions of impressive Chinese mountains, but imagine having to incantation it every time you booked a hair appointment or called your internet provider. For a while Salento and Chaltn were on the inventory, after places in Colombia and Argentina. But we werent convinced we are to be able pull off the clearly Latino-sounding former and supposed the latter would result in a lifetime of rectifying people who pronounced it Charlton.
Then Rob said, What about Stone Town? The beautiful old-time town of Zanzibar City is where he had asked me to marry him. It instant appeared right. Stone was straightforward but significant. It seemed good with both our given name and after a few weeks of trying it on with other names would work well with almost anything we chose for our baby. It was perfect: a solid appoint( with possibilities for puns that was not misplaced on us) that felt like a constructive solution to our difficulty. We would prevent our original surnames for job and adopt this new family name for our personal lives.
By law, all you need to do to change your identify is, well, remained unchanged. Simply borrowing and using your brand-new reputation is enough. Informing your chronicles and registers, however, requires a document of proof such as a wedlock certificate or, in our case, a deed canvas. There is no official lane of acquiring a deed canvas. You can write one yourself employing free templates from the internet, but lack of clarity about the relevant procedures ensues in some institutions demanding an original certificate despite the fact that no such stuff dwells. You can either fight it out or you can do which is something we did and compensate 15 -2 0 for a company such as the Deed Poll Office to draw up the word on your behalf and publication and stomp it on watermarked article. Sacrificed the schedule of bodies and organisations you have to notify and the potential controversies over what constitutes an original certificate, this seemed a reasonable compromise.
Perhaps “its been” naive, but we didnt expect to meet with defiance. Uncertainty, perhaps. Intrigue, for certain. When it is necessary to getting married, we had trenched virtually every habit leading, prohibiting the wedding itself, and no one had interrogated us. Surely this too would be seen as a modern update on an outdated tradition. But where reference is announced our decided not to our families, the reaction was mixed.

While they understood our quandary, the common restraint was that the child would lose the connection to its family history. Try as I might, I cant understand this. To me, family history leads far deeper than ones call. Its in accordance with the rules we live, our values, the wisdom and shared know passed down through generations. It is part of the storytelling our mothers did and its in the floors we, more, “re going to tell” and the beliefs we will share.
Our springs are not in our figures, they are in our souls. My grandmother, whose surname was Jones, is important to me not because of her mention but because of her enjoy. My great-grandmother, a midwife I never even satisfied, let alone shared a figure with, forms a part of my gumption of identity. Why? Because of the acces my loving mother talks about her, because of the pictures she has coated in my head of that life, that family, that time.
Interestingly, the figure itself has also substantiated a sticking point, with a few people commenting that its digesting. Youre doing this really unusual thing but youve picked a really everyday figure, said one colleague, as though by doing something different “weve been” obliged to go the whole hog and call ourselves Rob and Franki Thundercats.
In fact, the accessibility of the call was something we concluded would help us sell the idea. It is about to change we were naive there, too. My mother, a former primary school teacher, insisted that someone called Stone would be pestered. Another relative described it as a dead weight of a name.
In my experience, boys will come up with nicknames no matter what. I wasted much of my school years known as Franki Cookie while my first name was regularly elongated to Frankenstein, Frankincense or Frankfurter.
Never tell people your identify picks in advance, advised one sidekick( too late ). Its as if telling beings in advance is inviting a exchange or consultation!
While my familys sensibilities apparently matter to me, I suspect she might be right. Ultimately, this is our decision, based on our requires, and I hope they will come to see it as a practical and positive move , not an reckless one.
Its almost impossible to get everyone on board, adviser another friend, who changed her surname by deed canvas in 2004. The meaning upset my grandma but my dad, her son, understood. When I wedded my husband, he took my appoint. Im still not sure two brothers was 100% behind us, but when we had our first son, he was the first to be born into our dynasty. Im so excited that we are the first in our tree!
This is exactly how I detect. I enjoy the relevant recommendations that our newborn will be born into this new, specially chosen and carefully thought-out last name. And if one day he or she decides to change it either to something new or to one of our old family names we will fully support that.
Even when you change names, lineage can still be traced and, if nothing else, I like to think we will be gazed back on as the ones who tried something new; who instead of obliging do with an unsatisfactory statu, remembered creatively about how to solve it. Thats a family bequest Im joyous with.

If not my surname or my husband’s, could we announce our child after a New Zealand volcano?
Franki Cookney and her husband didnt much like one another surnames, so now theyre having a baby theyve are determined to pick a new one
When my husband, Rob, and I married last year, the question of what to do about our surnames barely participated our debates. We are both scribes, so our figures are on every piece of work we do. That we would save our own seemed a passed. There was just one niggling disbelieve. What would happen if we had children?
I had always had considered that we would just fasten both our identifies on the birth certification, but I knew this didnt quite solve the problem. Whose figure would go first? And which appoint would end up being used?
We could use a double-barrel call, but didnt seem our surnames, Cookney and Davies, gave themselves to hyphenation. Whichever tell you choose, research results is clunky and we were reluctant to saddle a child with it.
We could have just opted whichever call clanged best with our newborn first name. But in that scenario, one parent discontinues up not sharing a surname with their child and neither of us craved that. Plus, Id heard too many tales of mothers being stopped at airfield insurance because the names on their passports didnt accord that of their children.
The conventional option of taking my husbands surname was never on the table. Quite apart from the feminist principle of not was intended to relinquish my identity for his, I wasnt keen on the reputation. Rob supported this and was by no means offended. The misfortune was, he wasnt a fan of my epithet either. Its just a little bit unwieldy, he said. Its almost Cockney but not quite. Youre constantly having to spell it out. We looked at our mothers maiden names and our grandparents names but ever aimed up back in the same situate, feeling that it wasnt equal, that picking one slope of their own families over another wasnt fair.
We hit on the idea of taking a new reputation about a year ago when before our marry we went to write our wills. As we chitchatted to one of the attorneys, it transpired that he and his wife had done precisely this. Theres a fair fragment of admin, but its good, it toils, he said , nodding decisively. Abruptly, it didnt seem so preposterous. This wasnt some foolish uprising or bohemian pretentiousness, this was something solicitors did!
We mooted it with friends, who were largely unfazed. What mention will you go for? was the thing they were most curious about. Good topic. Could we compound the letters of our mentions and make something new, we pondered. Listings were manufactured: Gouges, Cave, Devine, Kinsey, Dacovnicks Cookies? Nothing of them quite hit the mark.
As our bridal drew nearer, we employed the figure recreation on a back burner. But when I became pregnant 3 months later, we were forced to look at developments in the situation afresh and decided to change tacking. How about a lieu? I indicated. Somewhere weve inspected that we adored. A backpacking stint before we got married had left us with slew make their own choices but most sounded fairly bizarre when attached to got a couple of everyday Brits. Rob and Franki Tongariro owned any particular vigor, but identifying yourself after a New Zealand volcano would be ridiculous. And Zhangjiajie might create recollections of spectacular Chinese mountains, but imagine having to sorcery it every time you booked a fuzz appointment or called your internet provider. For a while Salento and Chaltn were on the register, after places available in Colombia and Argentina. But we werent convinced we could pull off the certainly Latino-sounding former and suspected the latter would lead to a lifetime of chastising people who pronounced it Charlton.
Then Rob said, What about Stone Town? The beautiful old-time township of Zanzibar City is where he had asked me to marry him. It instant appeared right. Stone was straightforward but important. We could use a double-barrel appoint, but didnt seem our surnames, Cookney and Davies, lent themselves to hyphenation. Whichever guild you choose, the result is clunky and we were reluctant to saddle small children with it.
We could have just picked whichever epithet voiced best with our newborn given name. But in that scenario, one parent objective up not sharing a surname with their child and neither of us required that. Plus, Id discovered too many tales of mothers being agreed upon at airfield security because the epithets on their passports didnt competitor that of their children.
The conventional option of taking my husbands surname was never on the table. Fairly apart from the feminist principle of not wanting to abdicate my identity for his, I wasnt keen on the name. Rob supported this and was by no means offended. The hardship was, he wasnt a fan of my appoint either. Its exactly a bit unwieldy, he said. Its virtually Cockney but not quite. Youre constantly having to spell it out. We looked at our babies maiden reputations and our grandparents names but always purposed up back in the same lieu, feeling that it wasnt equal, that picking one side of the family over another wasnt fair.
We hit on the idea of taking a new mention about a year ago when before our marry we went to write our wills. We mooted it with friends, who were largely unfazed. What call will you go for? was the thing they were most strange about. Good topic. Could we blend the messages of our reputations and form something new, we wondered. Directories were built: Gouges, Cave, Devine, Kinsey, Dacovnicks Cookies? Nothing of them quite hit the mark.
As our bridal outlined nearer, we threw the reputation activity on a back burner. But when I became pregnant 3 months later, “were in” forced to look at the situation afresh and decided to change tacking. How about a place? I suggested. Somewhere weve called that we loved. A backpacking stint before we got married had left us with spate to choose from but most sounded moderately ludicrous when attributed to got a couple of ordinary Brits. Rob and Franki Tongariro owned any particular vitality, but referring yourself after a New Zealand volcano would be ridiculous. And Zhangjiajie might make storages of splendid Chinese mountains, but imagine having to spell it every time you booked a “hairs-breadth” appointment or called your internet provider. For a while Salento and Chaltn were on the roster, after places in Colombia and Argentina. But we werent convinced we are to be able pull off the undoubtedly Latino-sounding former and supposed the latter would result in a lifetime of redressing people who pronounced it Charlton.

When my husband, Rob, and I wedded last year, the question of what to do about our surnames scarcely enrolled our debates. We are both novelists, so our mentions are on every piece of work we do. That we would obstruct our own seemed a demonstrated. There was just one niggling incredulity. What would arise if “were having” children?
I had always had considered that we would just stay both our appoints on the birth certification, but I knew this didnt quite solve the problem. Whose refer would go first? And which refer would end up being used?
We could use a double-barrel call, but didnt feel our surnames, Cookney and Davies, gave themselves to hyphenation. Whichever ordering you choose, the result is clunky and we were reluctant to saddle small children with it.
We could have just picked whichever name reverberated best with our babe first name. But in that scenario, one mother resolves up not sharing a surname with their child and neither of us required that. Plus, Id heard too many fables of mothers being stopped at airport defence because the names on their passports didnt match that of their children.
The conventional option of taking my husbands surname was never on the table. Fairly apart from the feminist principle of not wanting to relinquish my identity for his, I wasnt keen on the figure. Rob supported this and was by no means offended. The fus was, he wasnt a fan of my refer either. Its merely a little bit unwieldy, he enunciated. Its almost Cockney but not quite. Youre forever having to spell it out. We looked at our mothers maiden names and our grandparents names but always pointed up back in the same lieu, feeling that it wasnt equal, that picking one line-up of the family over another wasnt fair.
We hit on the idea of taking a new name about a year ago when before our wedding we went to write our wills. As we chitchatted to one of the attorneys, it transpired that he and his wife had done precisely this. Theres a fair bit of admin, but its good, it toils, he did , nodding decisively. Abruptly, it didnt seem so preposterous. This wasnt some foolish rebellion or bohemian pretentiousness, this was something advocates did!
We mooted it with sidekicks, who were largely unfazed. What identify will you go for? was the thing they were most strange about. Good question. Could we combine the letters of our appoints and cause something new, we meditated. Directories were constructed: Nicks, Cave, Devine, Kinsey, Dacovnicks Cookies? Nothing of them quite hit the mark.
As our marry attracted nearer, we made the mention tournament on a back burner. But when I became pregnant three months later, we were forced to look at the situation anew and decided to change tacking. How about a target? I suggested. Somewhere weve visited that we desired. A backpacking stint before we got married had left us with batch to choose from but most sounded reasonably strange when attached to a couple of everyday Brits. Rob and Franki Tongariro possessed a certain vitality, but appointing yourself after a New Zealand volcano would be ridiculous. And Zhangjiajie might conjure recollections of spectacular Chinese mountains, but imagine having to sorcery it every time you booked a hair appointment or called your internet provider. For a while Salento and Chaltn were on the list, after places in Colombia and Argentina. But we werent convinced we are to be able pull off the undoubtedly Latino-sounding former and believed the latter would lead to a lifetime of redressing people who pronounced it Charlton.
Then Rob added, What about Stone Town? The beautiful old-fashioned township of Zanzibar City is where he had asked me to marry him. It instantly experienced right. Stone was straightforward but important. It resounded good with both our first names and after a few weeks of trying it on with other identifies would work well with almost anything we decide to for our newborn. It was perfect: a solid call( with a possibilities for pun “thats really not” lost on us) that felt like a constructive solution to our question. We would maintain our original surnames for act and accept this new family name for our personal lives.
By law, all you need to do to change your figure is, well, change it. Simply adopting and using your new figure is enough. Informing your accountings and enters, nonetheless, requires a document of proof such as a union certificate or, in such cases, a deed poll. “Were not receiving” official style of acquiring a deed poll. You can write one yourself employing free templates from the internet, but lack of lucidity about the process ensues in some institutions challenging an original credential despite the fact that no such thing prevails. You can either fight it out or you can do what we did and offer 15 -2 0 for a company such as the Deed Poll Office to draw up the letter on your behalf and print and stamp it on watermarked newspaper. Passed the list of bodies and organisations you have to notify and the health risks arguments over what constitutes an original credential, this seemed a reasonable compromise.
Perhaps “its been” naive, but we didnt expect to meet with defiance. Uncertainty, perhaps. Intrigue, for sure. When it came to getting married, we had ditched virtually every institution proceeding, barring the wedlock itself, and no one had wondered us. Surely this too would be seen as a modern update on an outdated custom-made. But where reference is announced our decided not to our families, the reaction was mixed.

While they understood our quandary, the common restraint was that the child would lose the connection to its family history. Try as I might, I cant know what this is. To me, family history becomes far deeper than ones identify. Its in accordance with the rules “were living”, our values, the profundity and shared experience passed down through generations. It is part of the storytelling our parents did and its in the fibs we, more, will tell and the beliefs we will share.
Our beginnings are not in our mentions, they are in our hearts. My grandmother, whose surname was Jones, is important to me not because of her name but because of her adore. My great-grandmother, a midwife I never even assembled, let alone shared a name with, forms a part of my gumption of identity. Why? Because of the channel my loving mother talks about her, because of the pictures she has covered in my heads of state of that life, that lineage, that time.
Interestingly, the name itself has also proved a sticking point, with a few people commenting that its tolerating. Youre doing this really unusual thing but youve picked a really ordinary appoint, said one colleague, as though by doing something different we are obliged to go the whole hog and call ourselves Rob and Franki Thundercats.
In fact, the accessibility of the refer was something we contemplated would be used sell the idea. It turns out we were naive there, more. My baby, a former primary school teacher, insisted that someone called Stone would be razzed. Another relative describing him as a dead weight of a name.
In my experience, boys will come up with nicknames no matter what. I invested much of my school years known as Franki Cookie while my given name was regularly elongated to Frankenstein, Frankincense or Frankfurter.
Never tell people your call picks in advance, advised one friend( too late ). Its as if telling people in advance is requesting a exchange or consultation!
While my familys apprehensions certainly matter to me, I believe she might be right. Ultimately, this is our decision, based on our wants, and I hope they will come to see it as a practical and positive step , not an irresponsible one.
Its almost impossible to get everyone on board, counselled another friend, who changed her surname by deed referendum in 2004. The impression upset my granny but my pa, her son, understood. When I married my husband, he took my mention. Im still not sure his brother was 100% behind us, but when we had our first son, he was the first to be born into our dynasty. Im so excited that we are the first in our tree!
This is exactly how I find. I adoration the idea that our baby will be born into this new, specially choice and carefully thought-out last name. And if the working day he or she decides to change it either to something new or to one of our old-time last name we will fully support that.
Even when you change names, pedigree can still be traced and, if nothing else, I like to think we will be looked back on as all those people who tried something new; who instead of attaining do with an unsatisfactory place, reputed creatively about how to solve it. Thats their own families bequest Im glad with.

If not my surname or my husband’s, could we call most children after a New Zealand volcano?
Franki Cookney and her husband didnt much like each others surnames, so now theyre having a baby theyve decided to pick a brand-new one
When my husband, Rob, and I marriage last year, the question of what to do about our surnames scarcely recruited our discussions. We are both scribes, so our names are on every piece of work we do. That we would deter our own seemed a yielded. There was just one niggling disbelieve. What would happen if “were having” brats?
I had always thought that we would just deposit both our identifies on the birth credential, but I knew this didnt fairly resolve the problem. Whose identify would go first? And which reputation would end up being used?
We could use a double-barrel call, but didnt detect our surnames, Cookney and Davies, gave themselves to hyphenation. Whichever guild you choose, research results is clunky and we were reluctant to saddle a child with it.
We could have just preferred whichever call sounded best with our babys first name. But in that scenario, one parent culminates up not sharing a surname with their child and neither of us wanted that. Plus, Id sounded too many fables of parents being agreed upon at airport protection because the refers on their passports didnt equal that of their children.
The traditional alternative of taking my husbands surname was never on the table. Fairly apart from the feminist principle of not wanting to renounce my identity for his, I wasnt keen on the identify. Rob supported this and was by no means offended. The fus was, he wasnt a fan of my appoint either. Its precisely a bit unwieldy, he said. Its almost Cockney but not quite. Youre perpetually having to spell it out. We looked at our moms maiden reputations and our grandparents names but ever intention up back in the same plaza, feeling that it wasnt equal, that picking one surface of their own families over another wasnt fair.
We hit on the idea of taking a new reputation about a year ago when before our bridal we went to write our wills. As we chit-chat to one of the attorneys, it transpired that he and his wife had done precisely this. Theres a fair fragment of admin, but its good, it operates, he did , nodding decisively. Unexpectedly, it didnt seem so outlandish. This wasnt some childish disobedience or bohemian pretentiousness, this was something solicitors did!
We mooted it with friends, who were largely unfazed. What appoint will you go for? was the thing they were most strange about. Good query. Could we mix the messages of our identifies and establish something new, we wondered. Directories were attained: Dents, Cave, Devine, Kinsey, Dacovnicks Cookies? Nothing of them quite hit the mark.
As our wedding gleaned nearer, we made the appoint competition on a back burner. But when I became pregnant 3 months later, we were forced to look at the situation afresh and decided to change tacking. How about a plaza? I intimated. Somewhere weve inspected that we enjoyed. A backpacking stint before we got married had left us with plenty to choose from but most sounded reasonably bizarre when attributed to a couple of ordinary Brits. Rob and Franki Tongariro possessed any particular sparkle, but reputation yourself after a New Zealand volcano would be ridiculous. And Zhangjiajie might create retentions of dazzling Chinese mountains, but imagine having to spell it every time you booked a whisker appointment or called your internet provider. For a while Salento and Chaltn were on the roster, after places available in Colombia and Argentina. But we werent convinced we are to be able pull off the patently Latino-sounding former and supposed the latter would lead to a lifetime of chastening people who enunciated it Charlton.
Then Rob mentioned, What about Stone Town? The beautiful old-time township of Zanzibar City is where he had asked me to marry him. It instant detected right. Stone was straightforward but important. It seemed good with both our given name and after a few weeks of trying it on with other names would work well with almost anything we decide to for our newborn. It was perfect: a solid epithet( with a potential for puns “thats really not” misplaced on us) that felt like a constructive solution to our problem. We would impede our original surnames for piece and accept this new family name for our personal lives.
By law, all you need to do to change your figure is, well, change it. Simply choosing and using your brand-new call is enough. Informing your reports and accounts, however, requires a document of proof such as a wedding certificate or, in such cases, a deed canvas. “Were not receiving” official acces of buying a deed referendum. You can write one yourself using free templates from the internet, but deficiency of clarity about the process results in some institutions demanding an original certificate despite the fact that no such situation exists. You can either fight it out or you can do which is something we did and offer 15 -2 0 for a company such as the Deed Poll Office to draw up the character on your behalf and print and stamp it on watermarked article. Established the directory of bodies and organisations you have to notify and the health risks arguments over what constitutes an original credential, this seemed a reasonable compromise.
Perhaps “its been” naive, but we didnt expect to meet with resist. Uncertainty, perhaps. Intrigue, for sure. When it came to getting married, we had trenched virtually every habit extending, prohibiting the matrimony itself, and no one had wondered us. Surely this too would be seen as a modern updated information on an outdated habit. But when we announced our decision to our families, the reaction was mixed.

While they understood our predicament, the common refrain was that the child would lose the connection to its family history. Try as I might, I cant know what this is. To me, family history exits far deeper than ones call. Its in accordance with the rules we live, our values, the prudence and shared ordeal passed down through generations. It is part of the storytelling our parents did and its in the stories we, more, will tell and the beliefs we will share.
Our roots “re not in” our refers, they are in our middles. My grandmother, whose surname was Jones, is important to me not because of her appoint but because of her ardour. My great-grandmother, a midwife I never even satisfied, let alone shared a appoint with, formations a part of my gumption of identity. Why? Because of the lane my own mother talks about her, because of the pictures she has decorated in my heads of state of that life, that clas, that time.
Interestingly, the reputation itself has also testified a sticking point, with a few people commenting that its abiding. Youre doing this really unusual thing but youve picked a really ordinary appoint, said one colleague, as though by doing something different we are obliged to go the whole hog and announce ourselves Rob and Franki Thundercats.
In fact, the accessibility of the name was something we contemplated would be used sell the idea. It turns out we were naive there, too. My mom, a former primary school teacher, insisted that someone called Stone would be teased. Another relative describing him as a dead weight of a name.
In my experience, boys will come up with monikers no matter what. I wasted often of my school years known as Franki Cookie while my given name was often elongated to Frankenstein, Frankincense or Frankfurter.
Never tell people your call alternatives in advance, admonished one pal( too late ). Its as if telling parties in advance is inviting a talk or consultation!
While my familys thinks undoubtedly matter to me, I suspect she might be right. Ultimately, this is our decision, based on our necessities, and I hope they will come to see it as a practical and positive step , not an reckless one.
Its almost impossible to get everyone on board, adviser another friend, who changed her surname by deed ballot in 2004. The idea upset my grandmother but my daddy, her son, understood. Even when you change names, ancestry can still be traced and, if nothing else, I like to think we will be looked back on as the ones who tried something new; who instead of forming do with an unsatisfactory place, considered creatively about how to solve it. Franki Cookney and her husband didnt much like each others surnames, so now theyre having a baby theyve are determined to pick a brand-new one
When my husband, Rob, and I marriage last year, the question of what to do about our surnames just recruited our discussions. We are both novelists, so our mentions are on every piece of work we do. That we would preserve our own seemed a generated. There was just one niggling incredulity. What would happen if “were having” infants?
I had always thought that we would just stick both our refers on birth certificates certification, but I knew this didnt quite resolve the problem. Whose refer would go first? And which appoint would end up being used?
We could use a double-barrel name, but didnt seem our surnames, Cookney and Davies, lent themselves to hyphenation. Whichever order you have selected, the result is clunky and we were reluctant to saddle a child with it.
We could have just elected whichever identify resounded best with our baby given name. But in that scenario, one mother culminates up not sharing a surname with their child and neither of us missed that. Plus, Id listened too many fables of mothers being stopped at airport security because the names on their passports didnt equal that of their children.
The traditional option of taking my husbands surname was never on the table. Fairly apart from the feminist principle of not was intended to abdicate my identity for his, I wasnt keen on the reputation. Rob supported this and was by no means offended. The disturbance was, he wasnt a fan of my appoint either. Its precisely a bit ponderous, he mentioned. Its virtually Cockney but not quite. Youre forever having to spell it out. We looked at our mothers maiden refers and our grandparents names but always resolved up back in the same lieu, feeling that it wasnt equal, that picking one area of the family over another wasnt fair.
We hit on the idea of taking a brand-new epithet about a year ago when before our wed we went to write our wills. As we chitchatted to one of the attorneys, it transpired that he and his wife had done precisely this. Theres a fair fleck of admin, but its good, it drives, he articulated , nodding decisively. Unexpectedly, it didnt seem so preposterous. This wasnt some childish resistance or bohemian pretentiousness, this was something advocates did!
We mooted it with friends, who were largely unfazed. What call will you go for? was the thing they were most strange about. Good interrogation. Could we combine the messages of our figures and create something new, we pondered. Inventories were become: Nicks, Cave, Devine, Kinsey, Dacovnicks Cookies? Nothing of them quite hit the mark.
As our wed gleaned nearer, we put the reputation competition on a back burner. But when I became pregnant three months later, “were in” forced to look at the situation anew and decided to change tack. How about a region? I indicated. Somewhere weve visited that we adoration. A backpacking stint before we got married had left us with slew to choose from but most sounded fairly ludicrous when attached to a couple of ordinary Brits. Rob and Franki Tongariro owned any particular sparkle, but naming yourself after a New Zealand volcano would be ridiculous. And Zhangjiajie might create reminiscences of fantastic Chinese mountains, but imagine having to sorcery it every time you booked a “hairs-breadth” appointment or called your internet provider. For a while Salento and Chaltn were on the roster, after places in Colombia and Argentina. But we werent convinced we are to be able pull off the certainly Latino-sounding former and suspected the latter would lead to a lifetime of correcting people who enunciated it Charlton.
Then Rob mentioned, What about Stone Town? The beautiful old-fashioned municipality of Zanzibar City is where he had asked me to marry him. It instant appeared right. Stone was straightforward but important. It announced good with both our first names and after a few weeks of trying it on with other identifies would work well with almost anything we decide to for our newborn. It was perfect: a solid call( with possibilities for puns that was not lost on us) that felt like a constructive solution to our trouble. We would preserve our original surnames for production and choose this new last name for our personal lives.
By law, all you need to do to change your identify is, well, remained unchanged. Simply adopting and using your brand-new refer is enough. Revising your accountings and preserves, nonetheless, requires a document of proof such as a marriage credential or, in our case, a deed canvas. There is no official way of acquiring a deed ballot. You can write one yourself exploiting free templates from the internet, but lack of clarity about the process develops in some institutions asking an original credential despite the fact that no such event exists. You can either fight it out or you can do which is something we did and offer 15 -2 0 for a company such as the Deed Poll Office to draw up the character on your behalf and publish and emboss it on watermarked article. Yielded the index of bodies and organisations you have to notify and the potential contentions over what constitutes an original certificate, this seemed a reasonable compromise.

In fact, the accessibility of the figure was something we reckoned would help us sell the idea. It turns out “were in” naive there, too. My mom, a former primary school teacher, insisted that someone called Stone would be pestered. Another relative describing him as a dead weight of a name.
