oh hey i am also hitting you with the autism stare. ill try to get my thoughts down in a way that makes sense to more than just me hahaha

bear in mind that im an epilogue lover and i think Meat/Candy are really valuable pieces that further all of the characters and are also hard canon in the sense that we're looking at just 2 post-game universe outcomes out of an uncountable number (the book in the picnic basket representing post-canon fanfic). i think the characters actions in the epilogues make sense and are satisfying to me. yes even jane (i love alpha jane and i will not do her the disservice of 'cleaning her up' w/o showing her work for it. thats not how you depict a character who grew up with fascist programming). i could totally go on a whole tangent about this specifically but thats another post lol we'd be here forever and its also not stridercest

but okay. canon stridercest. under the cut cause it got kinda long

basically it has to do with the cherubs and how their relationships and mating rituals are pretty obviously incestuous leaning even though cherubs dont have the human concept of Siblings or blood family. the cherub who predominates will search across paradox space to mate with another cherub who closely resembles the cherub they predominated which is like textbook Freudian sexuality. theres a lot of Freud and Jungian stuff in HS imo even if im kinda [wobbly hand gesture] at the validity of these theories applied to real life and real people. but theyre super fun tools and lenses to use in fiction and i mean. gestures at all of dave

so the incest aliens cherubs. the whole reason why im talkin about them is bc Caliborn is so incredibly interested and invested in the Striders in particular. caliborn as both Lord English and Lil Cal shapes earth NOT OVERTLY but more so embeds himself in earth society, but again, the Striders lives in particular. dave is full of incest jokes. hes even apparently got a list of his friends arranged in order of how likely theyd incest-elope with each other (thank you epilogues for this amazing factoid). he seems to think about it often enough to, yknow, Do That. have a good solid think about that and construct an organized list about it. bearing in mind dave makes jokes about stuff thats a) bothering him, or b) generally camping out in his brain. hes not even really aware of it most of the time (as we see in one of the openbounds where hes all 'why am i thinking about puppets???' after seeing dirk for the first time in that dream bubble. he is thinking nonstop about dirk at that point and going off his only frame of reference for ANY dirk, which is his bro. his bro who was most likely deeply warped by Lil Cal)

something so profoundly annoying about these videos i keep getting recommended of people reviewing splatterpunk books (w some clickbait ass title like "reviewing the MOST DISTURBING BOOK EVER" and its never that. like i have read more disturbing books myself and im fairly squeamish) and their "review" is always just.. reciting all the gross and fucked up things in the book and going "ewww!! its so gross and fucked up!!" and then ultimately declaring the book inherently bad for grossing you out and also always treating it like its a sort of garbage non-art not even worth considering seriously in the first place.

like babes its ok to not like splatterpunk. of all literary genres i think thats an extremely understandable one to just not be into categorically. but also if you dislike all books that are violent, gross-out and extreme and you definitely will not ever enjoy reading any book focusing on these subjects then i think your "review" of any splatterpunk book is essentially worthless. call it what it REALLY is: recounting all the fucked up gross shit from the book but without all the disgusting details so your audience can satisfy their morbid curiosity without having to actually read that shit. which i honestly think is fine to make as a video but just be straight with us. its not a review. you are not applying critical thinking or analysis to anything here. youre just retelling the gross shocking story but in a more digestible format because itll get clicks.

THEY KISS!! AGAIN!!!!!

I actually love how obtuse and playful and surreal the series is, but in a way that's very intentional and gives you all the puzzle pieces to put together what's happening. After finishing the show I felt like I knew what it was about because the themes were so well visualized…… and then I watched one (1) youtube analysis video that made me realize that my understanding has barely scratched the surface of ANything lol. I was kinda embarrassed about it ngl, but I guess RGU is just one of those shows that do require multiple watches. I really, really do love how it's got multiple layers. I'd be happy if I could create a story that's half as clever and nuanced.

The movie was such an unexpected banger. I was told by a friend beforehand that the movie was a retelling+sequel hybrid. After watching it, to me it feels like an alternate version of the story that runs parallel to the one in the anime. Like…… a metaphor for the intention of the show, does that even make sense? I don't think the events or characters themselves are necessarily "canon" in a literal sense, but the philosophies and underlying character motivations are. I definitely see why everyone's like "oh the movie will clear up the themes of the show!! It's great!!" and I love how it clarifies the show by being 250% weirder LMFAO.

I also thought that the absurdity of "your girlfriend turns into a freakin car you drive towards freedom" was going to take me out of it, and it did at first. I was mostly scared for Utena because um that was a scary process, but tbh for the entire ending I had this huge smile on my face. And it was emotional for me even though it's ridiculous!! And that's because it's emotionally resonant!! And it metaphorically confirms for me that, even though Utena was in despair in the last moments we see her in the show, the endings of both the show and movie are ultimately fulfilling and---dare I say?---happy! Because both of them were wrung through the crucible that tore apart their identities, and they ultimately learned and grew, despite how hard and painful it was!

I'm also just so, so, so glad how lgbtq+ the characters and narrative are, and how neither show nor movie shied away from it (I was nervous that the movie was going to retroactively step back, but no, they made it GAYER). And plus how.... tactful and considerate they were when dealing with and visualizing heavier themes. Even the movie was very frank and intentional when portraying nudity. I appreciate that a lot.

What a masterful show. It's going to haunt me forever probably :)

How is your character dissatisfied with their life?  Well, she’s an orphan w Valentina (fc: ANJELICA HUSTON IN EVER AFTER ;D) for a stepmom so…i feel like that kinda speaks for itself hahaha plus she wants to save herself and her sisters!!  and obv she hasn’t done that yet so lots to be bummed about :/  fortunately, she’s got a handsome prince on the hook so things’re looking up in that dept! and she’s defffff not considering the huge possibility that ~that won’t last since his ambitious parents almost certainly have other plans for him than some rando orphan!!!! even if she ~is technically nobility (actually she ~does know this but she ain’t looking at that too close up bc she’s a world class ignorer of truths she don’t vibe with <3)  Anyway, basically she’d love to be rich and just important enough to be consulted and included on fun things but frankly noT important enough to have to deal w the bad (but she doesn’t really think about that second part too much ngl) and have fine parties and intellectual but funny convos and be admired and adored by the glittering throng and make her sisters’ lives better w a wink of her eye!!!! but obv this fantasy existence isn’t playing out so!!! dissatisfaction!!

HI read one of ur asks abt isagi n shoyo and i just realised isagi n shoyo r so similar as protags in the sense that they keep fighting for what they want and they DO NOTTT give up no matter what other people say like they keep pushing themselves to be better even though they know they have their shortcomings as an athlete??? (as someone who LOVES hq too) i think the reason so many people who like hq also like bllk is bc it’s so obvious that there are better/more talented players in the sport apart from our protags but 1. u kinda get the thrill of rooting for the underdog to win and 2. throughout the series u get to see them really understand what theyre fighting for and build their passion for the sport and create a better version of themselves that’s able to keep up with everyone else (despite their aforementioned shortcomings!!!!) and THATS WHAT MAKES THEM SOOOO ENTERTAINING AND AMAZING TO WATCH i swear shoyo and isagi are the same person in different fonts (obv an exaggeration, i know some people are gomna take this too seriously 😭) and that’s my (summarised) analysis on why im so attached to bllk rn and how it relates to my obsession w hq

hi <33 omg yes yes! and one of my favourite details about haikyuu's ending is that shoyo didn't end up at the "top" ?? he wasn't ever the ace when he was in karasuno, and while he's definitely a poster boy for the MSBY/JNT it's not like he surpassed everyone else. he's not the best player in the world or anything, and i like how haikyuu stays realistic while still being so compelling and emotionally attach-able anyway 💓

mhm mhm the way isagi and shoyo both start off on low ranks, how they fight and train hard and hold onto their dreams — how they actually experience defeat not once or twice but many times ‼️ and how they do make it higher and higher while it all still stays within reason... i love that. even with other characters, we get to see them lose. we get to see them fail and i think that's what really makes characters more human to viewers. it's expected for the "main character" to win all the time and be at the top by the time their story ends. so it touches the heart a lot deeper when you see them lose. when you learn what they're fighting for, learn about how big they dream, and when you see them fall. (and again, i'm so fucking glad that with these two series failing ≠ death LMAOO)

haikyuu had a perfect ending and i really hope blue lock gives us something on the same level because really, i am SO obsessed with bllk i will feel so betrayed if it doesn't deliver a satisfying ending after how good it's going rn.

Duuude I also definitely will main this character so I made myself a PBE acc and I am telling you rn, that man will need 7000 buffs to actually have utility in team fights, I was doing 1v1s against standard mid lane stuff and seeing what items he'd use and the like but honestly? His W+Q needs a buff bc there's NO WAY that the fucking AP it takes at max lvls and with full build will only increase 15%. IT GOES FROM 30% TO 45% AND THEN?? that shit is nowhere near a taxi (legit any character with Youumus will beat him) to team fights and his shield is also super weak like an EKKO AD not even AP had a stronger shield and even though Hweis increases over time if you stand in the circle its still weaker because by the time your shield increases the base one it gives as soon as you pop W+W will already have been torn through by whoever you're fighting against, although he does have a pretty good dmg in the rest of his abilities but the like hooming thing his E+W has barely does that, ik swains doesn't do that but at least Swains W is almost global, like, the range on the E+W is smaller than Q+W 💀 it should be switched ngl

i have this Thing where i ,,,, feel like i am TooMuch as person w too many interests who lie in too many different places, with too many ways to think & talk & feel, and above this all the crown is that i HATE being perceived but i want to talk&learn so badly. 

ive found that in relationships of any kind this could be difficult to deal w... it creates this thing where pple might think i’m extremely intelligent&resourceful&passionate so they idealize me and they will listen but they won’t participate. then i start feeling like i should be a little less so i can stop being intimidating & they can start sharing too. then i never know how to be fully myself again because i’ve understood that if i was, it meant facing disconnect. like, they’ll think they can’t add anything to the convo and 1) not speak, therefore, i feel lonely 2) ignore me entirely (on apps mostly) so somebody else can deal w me instead like im a bother 3) pretend they listen/care but only answer in questions & never actually find meaning in what i say or try to dig deeper into it 4) listen, truly, and keep my ideas w them, and speak those ideas to other pple but never actually follow through much with me by adding to the convo later on or in the moment etc 

or, pple might be judgemental. so then i hide little parts, i hide interests, i speak of them a Little bit because i don’t wanna lie or be a different person, but i never really dig into what i wanna talk abt half as much as i truly want to because i know it won’t be met well. so then i start having this unconscious lists of topics that are palatable depending on who’s in front of me. and i adapt.

@arsonhotchner has been begging me to post the fast food headcanons we were talking about..  since they finally got around to making the dessert post with significantly less explanation mind you!! i guess it’s only fair to write this up asjhlgfdjk

one thing that im almost genuinely upset we didn’t get to see is more scenes of the team eating together. they’re gone for days at a time, most of which is spent working on a gruesome case, with breaks few and far between. they’ve gotta eat at some point, and its just efficient if they all eat together 

we see them order takeout sometimes so they can eat at the precinct, and they occasionally go out to restaurants (they stop doing that on cases tho when they always end up getting pulled away). but what about when a case is over and  it’s 3am and everywhere’s closed and they havent eaten in days and they just want to get a bite to eat and fucking relax? they either want a place where they can crash for a while and decompress while they unwind from whatever shitty thing happened that day or somewhere they can pick something up to bring back to the hotel. sometimes they just grab some fast food since it’s readily available and easy enough to get. but different people like different things, and they each have their favorites

emily likes mcdonalds. not necessarily for the food itself, but for the consistency. and she has fond memories of hanging out at mcdonalds in other countries she’s lived in, so there’s also a nostalgia factor. it’s kind of exciting to see the different menus. she knows it’s not the best so she’s rarely adamant about going, but it’s a chain that’s basically everywhere, so they inevitably end up going occasionally. it’s no one else’s favorite, but no one’s strongly against it either. a pretty neutral choice!

morgan likes five guys. he likes the sesame buns, he thinks the fries are good, and he loves snacking on peanuts while they wait. the group is pleased with this decision and they go as frequently as they can—even though it’s not always available.

jj likes cici’s pizza bc she’s insane. it’s mostly nostalgia—after games her soccer coach would take the team there for the buffet. the euphoria of eating a shitton of food after working to the bone assuaged any reservations they had of the taste/quality. it didnt matter how gross it was, to them it was delicious. but it does mean that jj rarely gets to pick where they go eat. she cant be trusted 

morgan likes popeyes. jj likes kfc. it’s a point of contention between the two and at some point they look to the team to settle the debate. with some sighs and grumbled apologies, everyone unanimously sides with morgan. it’s a popular option and they go often, and morgan will always have a smug look on his face when they pull up to the parking lot. 

rossi likes wendys. it catches them off guard and they don’t quite understand it, but rossi says he admires the moxy of a fast food chain that puts baked potatoes on the menu. and he likes the square patties. no one’s upset about it though—the food’s not bad and they like the cheese fries. hotch likes their frosties, so wendys becomes part of the regular rotation. 

hotch likes whataburger. dairy queen used to be his favorite when he was a kid, but at some point he decided the blizzards weren’t worth the shitty food. he doesn’t always eat when they go out, but he’ll get at least get a milkshake if the place has them, and whataburger shakes are his favorite. the group likes it, and they like to indulge hotch when he lets them. usually someone else will suggest it so he won’t feel bad for taking a turn at picking

jack likes pizza hutt. the stuffed crust is quite alluring to a six year old. every day hotch prays that his son will get some fucking taste and ask for dominos instead. one day hotch just makes the executive decision to get dominos. the cinnamon twists win jack over

reid likes chipotle. this comes as a shock to everyone. he rattles off about the quality and the health benefits etc etc but still nobody understands why. they don’t stop staring as he eats his little salad bowl.

penelope doesn’t get to eat with them as often since she doesn’t travel with them, and when she does it’s usually homecooked at someone’s house or at a restaurant. her favorite is sonic. not for the food, but for the drinks—plus she thinks there’s something classy about pulling up to a drive-in with her convertible. sometimes she’ll pick up drinks for everyone when she knows they’ve had a rough day. other times, she’ll be working late at the office and it’s getting late (or early) and hotch is the only one left. she’ll drag him out and insist on driving them home, but they’ll stop by sonic on the way to get some drinks and maybe some tater tots or something  if he’s up for it. 

alex likes panera bread. she’ll go pick up coffee and pastries in the mornings sometimes, but every once and a while they’ll go as a group to eat lunch or something. it’s inoffensive and they’re able to bring back a little snack for later, but it’s not as traditionally “fast” for fast food, so it’s mostly a morning stop. 

tara likes panda express. the others tease her a little for it, but she says there’s something comforting about shitty americanized chinese food. they’ll go every once and a while if they’re ever tired of burgers or smth.  

walker likes subway. he likes picking out the ingredients in his little sandwiches and he says there’s something about the system of the line up that’s oddly comforting. they’ll go for lunches sometimes, but they don’t go often. not necessarily because of the food, but because usually everyone’s too tired to have to make decisions/talk to someone through the whole process.

luke likes in and out bc he has taste. it becomes a quick favorite for the others and it becomes a frequent stop. 

sometimes they’ll eat at the restaurant. they’ll squeeze in a booth or drag some tables together and camp out for a while. it’s usually when it’s late and they all know they’re not getting any sleep that night. sometimes it’s quiet and they sit in silence mulling over whatever case they were working on. its enough to just.. be in the presence of others who understand what they’re going through. there’s no need to explain--they all get it. other times it’s easier to distract each other and it’ll be much more lively: joking around, goofing off, prying into personal lives, kicking under the table, etc. it’s a way to take their mind off things, and laughter over a meal with people you love can be so healing.

sometimes they’ll pick something up and bring it back to the hotel. this tends to be a little more chaotic.. one suv heads to the hotel while the other gets the food, and the accuracy of the order greatly depends on who’s in the car. hotch and reid are the most reliable at remembering what everyone wants, but they’re the least likely to speak up at a drive thru; jj tries but sometimes she’ll forget someone entirely; emily and morgan are liable to change your order if they think its gross or they just want to mess w you. either way its pretty much a gamble.

they’ll usually eat together in someone’s room. it’s a pretty big sacrifice since the smell of fast food is never getting out of there, and it’s not something any of them wanna volunteer for. more often than not it ends up being reid’s room: his protests are easier to ignore. they’ll gather on the bed or the desk or the floor--wherever there’s room. this is the setting where they tend to be more casual. they try to keep their mind off work and talk about other things, but sometimes it’s easier to brainstorm when they’re not at some police precinct. one by one they’ll trickle back to their rooms feeling more settled than they normally would be. family meals are nice like that

Read your Devilman post. Its so good to see you introduced to the wonder that is Ryo. In this house we love and adore Ryo.

This post contains major spoilers for Devilman Crybaby.

I have honestly fallen in love with the way his story was represented throughout the series. In fact, I haven’t even noticed it was his story being told right before my eyes until the last episode. I thought this was about Akira, Miki, Mico or the boys. I thought this was about survivial— or I thought this was just a show that fancies violence and wanted to draw as many gore scenes as possible without putting too much thought into the plot. How wrong I was.

(On a side note, I had known absolutely nothing about this series until I clicked on the first episode, aside from the fact that it had lgbt+ representation. I had zero spoilers. I had no idea of the genre or the ending. I just started watching it without so much thought. Maybe that’s why I’m shocked that it turned out good— because a show has to outsmart me for me to be mesmerized, and I was outsmarted at Ryo’s reveal. I will give full credits to Devilman Crybaby for this reveal.)

I’m not gonna lie, I did realize that some of Ryo’s moves were not making sense as I watched the episodes. All I heard before starting the series was that “the blonde guy liked Akira”, so I couldn’t pinpoint why exactly would Ryo put Akira into an extreme risk by letting him be consumed by the strongest devil in the world. I thought that couldn’t be “love”, and that this wasn’t what I expected at all. As the storyline progressed, I started to think that Ryo might have been a devil/devilman in disguise, because he didn’t show any feelings— or he showed a strong lack of empathy to the fucked up events. But that wouldn’t make sense either, because if Ryo had devil powers, he would have saved Akira— or himself— when they needed back-up help from others.

I thought Ryo died in that explosion, then I didn’t even time to think about it because I was progressing what happened to Miki. Oh but then everything made sense. Then we learnt that everything happened to Ryo, either as a punishment or reward, for the second time, so that the God could make him understand things. (At this point in series, maybe they/them pronouns are better for Ryo. Anyway, Ryo referred himself as “watashi”, which can be interpreted gender-neutral. My first language doesn’t even have gender-specific pronouns so I never noticed which pronoun I was using for him until I typed this. Anyway.)

I still think... It was kind of a happy ending for Ryo. From what I understand, the world is put in an endless cycle of time loop— that has occurred twice by now, if you count the number of moons that are pinpointed. Ryo watches the foundation and destruction of devils and humans over and over again. But he finally sheds tears. He finally understands something. To me, it looks like what “God” wanted him to understand.

To be honest, I’m an atheist, so I thought that the “God” they were talking about (such as Miki’s father praying to God) was just a religious belief (hence not fact-proven, so I overlooked it). I didn’t expect God to be an actually existing thing that fucked Ryo’s life up over and over again with those big bright lights. I wasn’t disappointed at the proofs of God in the anime, though, in fact I was impressed; because then Ryo’s story made sense. I just accepted Devilman Crybaby as a mythical story of Satan’s journey and listen ;; I love him so much and I want a sequel where the world starts over and Ryo is proceeding to learn life and universe with his newly-found feelings. I want him to be able to look at the sky and see the rabbit, I— I love him so much, good god.

Ok I saw the long tags about Omori characterization in one post you reblogged and tbh you’re so right like. So many times I’ve really been annoyed w how characters are written in this fandom and especially with characters like Basil it’s CRAZY to me how badly he is written at times

OKAY IM GLAD IM NOT ALONE BC FANDOM IS INSANE LIKE THAT

Honestly it’s a problem in every fandom I’ve been in, where the majority of people writing fics don’t get it when it comes to the main characters. Luckily Omori isn’t that bad compared to other fandoms, but it’s still common.

When I see people that do complain about certain fics, it’s usually people talking about YBM/Pursuit but imo that argument doesn’t hold water since a) it’s very explicitly an AU where the characters are gonna act a little different and b) people writing things like Basil being obsessive over Sunny is something that’s been around since the fandom’s inception (post-game release, I know the fandom has technically existed for like 8 years or smth). YBM/Pursuit just did it differently which is why it’s well-known, some good examples of a similar phenomenons being the AU comic “Eye for an Eye” by @/ginumo or the fic “Sharing is Caring” by ooCatoo on AO3 (not as well-known but very good).

Aside from that, I think a lot of it is people either just misinterpreting the characters due to lack of understanding or pushing them OOC for the sake of OOC angst (once again, I don’t believe YBM/Pursuit falls under this category, I think it does it beautifully). It’s not really something that can be fixed, so I don’t really lecture people on it too hard because I just don’t have the energy for that and I don’t like debating people. It’s why I’m picky with what I read/engage with; I have been known to drop fics if I don’t like things like characterization, even midway through very long stories. If the character feels too unnecessarily pushed out of their canon personality, I tend to quickly fall off, but if the shift is built up to and/or developed properly then I adore it.

In general, I tend to write for myself, which means stupidly meticulous detail (that sometimes happens on accident, admittedly) and analysis to get exactly what I want, which can hit for some readers and miss for others. I’m very much someone who likes to ask why the curtains are blue, if that makes sense.

When it comes to my friend’s writing, a lot of the people I talk to also pay attention to these kinds of details and will discuss with me why the curtains are blue, so when I read their writing I’m satisfied with things like story and characterization. I don’t always agree with them, but the way they handle and write their own thoughts/interpretations makes it work for me.

For example, I believe Sunny is a very quiet person who chooses not to talk a lot, but my friend believes him to be a rambler that will go on for a while if prompted. Usually I have issues with those kinds of interpretations, but at a core level it’s due to how it’s written; since my friend actually writes Sunny in a way that has it work for the character, I think it adds instead of subtracts from the interpretation and story, even if I personally have different headcanons and ideas.

I have read things from people I’m not friends with that have interpretations different from my own, and in the fics where it’s done well really work for me. However, I have read ones where it just doesn’t, because there isn’t the proper ease-in or build up for the changes.

Another example I can think of is the fic I mentioned previously called “Sharing is Caring.” In it, Sunny is a manipulative little shit, and obviously in canon he isn’t like that at all, therefore my interpretation of the character differs from how he is in the fic. However, due to the time we’re given to understand Sunny in this fic, the character changes aren’t that jarring and don’t take me out of the story.

This is kind of why I have issues with people interpreting Basil as extremely obsessive, or when people say the friends would never forgive Sunny and Basil, or when people interpret Mari as a perfect, (metaphorical) angel, or when people interpret Omori character as a demon or a jerk towards Sunny. A lot of people miss things like subtext or just whole character interactions, and t bothers me.

Idk, it’s just my thoughts. I tend to overanalyze a story so what I engage with leans into those detail-oriented things. It’s also why I have trouble discussing characters or even other fics with people. This isn’t to say people are interpreting things wrong, of course, I just think it’s an issue of people missing or overlooking things.

When I write, I don’t expect the majority of readers to see the subtext I intentionally and unintentionally leave in (I have been told before of small details in my writing I had never even thought of when putting them to paper). I write for myself, therefore I write very meticulous and complex stories that involve active thought about the themes and characters. I want my readers to ask why the curtains are blue, because I ask those same kind of questions. It may be because I’m an overthinker, sure, but it’s also what I tend to enjoy. I guess that’s why I love Omori so much, haha.

This was a lot longer than I intended, but I have a LOT of thoughts on the subject of writing and reading between the lines. So that’s my thoughts, and it applies to writing in general, not just fanfiction.
