teenage coworker made a limpwristed hand gesture at me and asked if i was “fruity” and this is the third lgbt person i’ve worked in proximity with who has done something along this line and i don’t care for it at all

What about the Incredibles 2 appeals to you? There's a lot of also good animated movies that came out both before and after Incredibles 2, why have you latched onto this specific movie so deeply? Just-a-curious. I'm a long-time fan of your work and never would have suspected this movie to be your jazz on this sort of level.
First off, thank you for following me and seeing me through my many hyperfixations on fandom, lol.  This Incredibles kick I’ve been on took me by surprise too– honestly, I’m more invested in the whole spinoff AU I’ve created and other people’s fanart/headcanons than the actual movies themselves.  The movies are more like a base inspiration for everything else.  (I’ll be the first to admit “Spiderverse” totally earned that Oscar. Zero contest.)
I think a lot of things have contributed to this fixation- I was a huge fan of the original incredibles movie when it came out 14 years ago.  (I drew lots of art for it back then, too!)  By the time the second movie came around, I still had a lot of nostalgia attached to my memories of the characters.  “Incredibles 2″ also happened to come out when I was suffering from a big loss.  Creating fanart, imagining this elaborate history, it started as a fun escapism from a deep depression.  Once I posted the Voyd comics and those went viral, I started getting a lot of comments from fellow LGBT people and allies who felt touched and represented, and I wanted to keep making more work that spoke to them.
Before I knew it, a whole community had sprung up around these headcanons and comics, and it’s largely that amazing community that has inspired me and motivated me to keep making these comics.  I’m so touched to hear from people who feel seen and validated by my work, and in turn getting that positive feedback has helped pull me from a dark place where I found no interest in drawing or anything else.
Thanks to my Incredibles art, met some amazing people, I’ve gotten new jobs, I’ve had the motivation to fly to California and meet with people who work at Pixar and put portfolios together.  I don’t really know what it is about the movie that set this all off– and I suspect a lot of it was just random timing and stars aligning– but I’m not complaining, either.
