Oh the first season definitely still played out since 4S is dead when the session starts. I'd say they started playing their session sometime around the end of season 2 - beginning of season 3.

As to how mephone ended up bringing back 4S as a sprite, for some reason 4S still had a dream self, despite not being a player. The dream self was dead, and when mephone retrieved it, he accidentally prototyped the corpse with the kernel sprite

they had a VERY awkward reunion to say the least. And now 4S has all this game knowledge that he’s supposed to use to aid mephone in his quest.

It's weird now because 4S takes on an even more of a protector role and it start clashing with both of them still viewing eachother as brothers. So now you get this very awkward situation of 4S constantly swinging between acting like a mentor and acting like an annoying little brother. But mephone gets used to it at some point. Mephone also notes that 4S is more laid back now. Well, he still enjoys violence n stuff - he kills any imps he comes across and very much enjoys it because he can now kill and it's seen as a positive thing lol. But he's just not as, full of energy, as he was before, but mephone figures that it's probably just his situation with being undead and the game stuff affected him in some way.

Either way, 4S sort of follows him around all the time, does some sarcastic commentary here and there, and is just. Very awkward. Sometime throughout the session mephone starts to grow a little bit of resentment towards him and sort of wishes he didn't prototype him in the first place because he's just. not the same 4S he knew of. He grows distant from him, and 4S doesn't do much either.

Ultimately, 4S will cease to be an important figure, because he's nothing but a game mechanic. As soon as the game is finished, he will cease to exist. So no point in even reconciliating in the first place, right?

WRONG.WRONG YOY WANNA KNOW WHY I MENTIONED THAT 4S WILL END UP RUINING THEIR ENTIRE SESSION WELL IT'S BECAUSE LATER ON HE- HE- MEPHONE5 APPEARZ (OMGOMG) PROTOTYPED WITH MEPADS KERNEL SPRITE SND THEN THEY SEE EACHOTHER AND IT'S AWKWARD FAMILY REUNION 2.0 NOW WITH MORE RESENTMENT AN THEY- THEY TALK ,I KNOW, VERY UNHEARD OF, AND THEN THEY- *SIRENS START BLASTING* YRE COMBINED AND THEN EXPLOSION KABOOM BUT MEPHONE IS THERE AND THEN PAINTBRUDH AND TIMELINE AND AND- *I GET DRAGGED AWAY KICKING MY LEGS AND CLAWING AT THE FLOO

I just finished episode 3 of Utena, and I already really ship Utena and Anthy after that episode.

Like, before I wanted them together, and I would have been surprised if I didn’t eventually ship them, but that was quick.

Like, the scene where she hears Anthy scream, and she immediately drops everything, rushes to her, rips off her own dress, and gives Anthy a new one, only to dance with her, I was getting close to tearing up from happiness.

And I feel like this episode showed a lot about Anthy, just from little things in it, not even anything that was stated.

Like, she says that she doesn’t do well with lots of people, telling us she’s shy. But then we really see that when she’s left alone, we see her scared because she’s by herself with people all around her.

I just really love how that was done, how we’re told something about her, and they don’t leave it at that.

They tell us first, and since we have that in our mind, they then go on to show her fear at large gatherings. And I feel like it makes it hit more than if we were just told or shown it.

I feel like I’m really going to love both Anthy and Utena, both as people and as a couple, by the time this is done.

And actually, while writing this post, I did tear up a little just thinking about both the dance and what Anthy went through.

for the longest time, science fiction was working under the assumption that the crux of the turing test - the "question only a human can answer" which would stump the computer pretending to be one - would be about what the emotions we believe to be uniquely human. what is love? what does it mean to be a mother? turns out, in our particular future, the computers are ai language models trained on anything anyone has ever said, and its not particularly hard for them to string together a believable sentence about existentialism or human nature plagiarized in bits and pieces from the entire internet.

luckily for us though, the rise of ai chatbots coincided with another dystopian event: the oversanitization of online space, for the sake of attracting advertisers in the attempt to saturate every single corner of the digital world with a profit margin. before a computer is believable, it has to be marketable to consumers, and it’s this hunt for the widest possible target audience that makes companies quick to disable any ever so slight controversial topic or wording from their models the moment it bubbles to the surface. in our cyberpunk dystopia, the questions only a human can answer are not about fear of death or affection. instead, it is those that would look bad in a pr teams powerpoint.
