I love all the headcanons of "Steve is not dumb he's..." Hard of hearing, has poor eyesight, learning disability or his primary language is not English. I particularly enjoyed @dwobbitfromtheshire 's recent headcanon that he's hiding it because his father hates feeling inferior and only Eddie realizes that he is not dumb. But I would like to throw my own hat in the ring.

Steve is not dumb. Actually, he's quite smart and did quite well in school (because his parents would not expect anything less). He just wasn't into nerd culture and everyone just placed their stereotypes and rumours of him being a pretty and privileged rich jock who bought his way out of school but couldn't buy his way into college. Nevermind that he was in the top 10 students of his year and for most of his classes if not topping them and if not he wasn't failing the rest other than one or two science/math-based (rumours say the school forged those marks so that Steve could continue sports) and had a 3.6 GPA. It wasn't enough to get into his Dad's alma mater so his dad dismissed any of the other schools he got accepted into.

He does not try to hide his intelligence from Nancy or the Party, but Nancy had bought into the "Steve is simple-minded " narrative and the like before they got together and failed to realize that they are both in the same AP classes that were full of seniors and in any group or partnered project he more-than-well pulled his weight and had his own insights. So she spreads the narrative to Mike who spreads it to the rest of the party so by the time the events that befan with Dustin asks him for help with his "dog" and developed into concussed in the back of a car while a preteen drove his car, the kids have also bought into parts of the narrative. It doesn't help that he really isn't into the stereotypical nerdy stuff

Even his best friend Robin believed the lie until she worked with him and then got tortured with him by Russians. She eventually realises that he's way smarter in a practical sense than people give him credit for (he did raise himself since he was 11 or so) but does not think of it as stretching into the academic side of his life. She has not stopped calling him "dingus" though.

Eddie on the other hand knows better, which is why when a specific exam was coming up he turned to Steve.

He barged into the Harrington home a day when tye entire party was their.

"Stevie, you either have to tutor me or lend me your notes for this class. I am not failing this class and increasing the possibility of another year at fucking Hawkins."

Mike and Dustin burst out laughing at that before Steve can answer.

"I know you're e bad at that subject, but I didn't realise you were desperate enough to use Steve's notes," Dustin says with that condescending tone that means it should be obvious to Eddie.

Mike snorts at that derisively, "If he even has notes."

"Maybe," Lucas said diplomatically, "there are better options than using Steve's notes?"

Nancy steps up next offering some of her notes and flashcards since she took the class last year/is taking the class, "It's not my strongest subject but if we do a study group I'm sure you won't fail the class."

Eddie stares at the group with growing bewilderment as they agree that Nancy is the best choice while implying that Steve was not. Actually, they were acting as though he was dumb for even asking Steve, which made no sense to him.

Eddie turned his eyes to Steve. His posture by the kitchen island was much more different than when Eddie burst in. He had subtly curled into himself as if to make himself smaller, shoulders tense and a resignation on his face as if he's been through this conversation so many times before.

It was almost as if...

"You guys think that Steve is dumb, don't you?"

There was the type of silence that only comes when the quiet part is said outloud.

"No we don't think Steve's dumb," Robin begins and Eddie can hear the 'but' before she even said it, "But you know he wasn't good at the school part of school."

She continued to ramble on from there but Eddie did not hear any of it. He was too busy reevaluating the group he was with and rechecking old memories and facts to see if there was any inkling of truth to this strange idea that even the older teens should know isn't true.

It took him a moment to find the answer, and when he did he could not stop the derisive laugh that burst out and interrupted Robin's ramble.

"You guys fucking bought into the rumours, didn't you? I expect that from the kids maybe even Johnathan, maybe even Robin because of you became friends after he left school, but not from you, Nancy."

Nancy had that look on her face that she got when she was ready to argue but Eddie steamrolled over it.

"Jesus H Christ! Weren't y'all together for a whole fucking year? How do you not know that he was at the top of his year when you were together? Unless you dismissed that in favour of believing the rumours that his parents paid for his grades and the school wanted to make sure he kept on playing sports?"

He paused for a second waiting for someone to contradict him, but the look on Nancy's face was one of scrambling to defend herself. He sighed at that; she still wasn't getting it and it a sweeping look at the others proved they were lost too.

"Even if they paid off the school he would not have been in the top ten of his year, he would be like Carver and Hagan whose parents paid and their grades were just good enough to get into a decent college without too many questions. And they would not have kept on giving him high grades after he stopped doing any kind of sport in his last 2 years at that dump. Hell if Hargrove wasn't such a fucking beast at sports he would have been told he would have to repeat his senior year with me."

"It's okay Eddie; leave it go." He turned a fake sunny smile with his eyes tightly shut towards Eddie as if to pacify him.

Eddie turned to Steve who had yet to say anything throughout Eddie's diatribe up until that moment. He just continued to robotically make dinner for the party as though nothing was wrong, as though the hurt dripping off him didn't matter.

"I'm not letting this go! They had classes with you, some of which I'm pretty fucking sure were AP classes. If I had the attendance needed I would have graduated last year because of you, Stevie. So excuse me if I'm a bit annoyed that our friends are so blinded by a rumour that they can't fucking see your Salutatorian medal. Hanging. Right. There!"

All eyes except Eddie and Steve's turned in the direction that Eddie pointed at.

And there on the wall, was a framed silver medal with the word "Salutatorian" emblazoned on it. The party immediately burst into chaos amongst each other.

"Now, pretty boy, are you gonna tutor me or what?"

Or it goes something like that, I'm not sure.

rank the bad kids in order of preference i dare you

You showed up and casually told me to do my favorite thing in the entire world ever as if I didn’t already have 23 google documents doing this exact thing.

I’m doing this seasonally, based on STORY preference and how often I think about each of their character arcs per season, to ask me to rank their personalities based on my honest love for them would be a cruel and impossible task. Also I’m hiding it so people don’t actually have to see this whole post because I refuse to be short about list making!!!

Riz gets to be the first on my FY list because I think about his entire battle with friend making and connection so much in that season it’s crazy, Fig is last cause I feel like the later seasons address her identity issues in so much more depth than season one gets the chance to, it doesn’t majorly resonate with me on its own so much as a doorway for future development.

This one is an immensely close call because SY is my favorite D20 season of all time. Kristen’s arc of Rejecting the god who created her to be his beacon? Fabian’s arc of learning himself outside of the shadow of his fathers legacy??? All devastating. The only reason Gorgug is at the bottom is because the moments where i resonated with him the most were mostly very short and sweet up until the final few episodes, whereas I was pretty much on the floor dying about everything else the whole time. Do not take this to mean I didn’t like them, “sometimes I’m not good at saying the right thing / and I’m just a little bit of a mess on top of that” kills me dead every time I think about it.

Another amazingly close call for this one, I’m super stuck between Fabian’s whole situation of becoming an adult and realizing how entirely lonely he feels despite being surrounded by people, and Kristen’s desperation to bring back the only god she truly believes in. Gorgug having just realized that he’s smarter than people give him credit for, and then immediately having that understanding unfairly challenged by an authority figure had me rolling every. Single. Episode. Adaine trying to grow up while also coming to terms with the fact that she never got to be a child in the first place???? Honestly I have never cried more. Devastatingly she is in last place only because I watched Riz go through his entire academic pressure arc while it was finals season for me and I was holding on by a thread, and also because she had a wider array of things happening rather than one single driving event.

This one was tough. I love this evil horrible (so so so good) show.

This question was actually so hardddd haha and I feel like you could ask me again in a month and my answer would be different bc I’m such a multishipper that… yeah xD but for now here it issss :

Fave characters :

1. James Potter : mhm I love myself an arrogant goofball who’s actually smarter than people give him credit for, who’s got so much love he’s impulsive with it and hurts the ones he loves, who doesn’t know what to do with the loneliness that grips him sometimes, who defines himself by his ability to help people, who rarely allows himself to express himself negatively (ex : sadness/anger/frustration) because if there’s one thing that he fears the most, it’s hurting people. Plus, he hasn’t got any trauma or anything so why should he complain, yk?

Basically I love a good flawed James, and the sort of character where you wouldn’t expect him to have issues yk

2. Sirius Black : I mean… cmon do I even need to explain? ‘Cause if I start idk when I’ll stop, like literally. Ive had a crush on this character since I was eleven and never grew out of it, its almost embarrassing if it wasn’t completely justified (and the only reason he’s not number one is just because I write him less than James so I feel like I know him less intimately but like if you’d have asked me before I started writing I’d have put him number one for sure)

3. Regulus Black : !!!!! sorry but indoctrinated younger ‘abandoned’ (in between quotes bc he was not Sirius’ responsibility and Sirius was right to save himself but it’s also very normal for regulus to feel that way etc etc… we know the drill) sibling who’s faced with sudden delusion about this superior figure he’s followed/served, everything he’s lost in the process, and who redeems himself by going on this suicide mission that ends up being useless? (And unknown by Sirius AHHHH.) The guy is literally so smart and technically such a loser bc he doesn’t serve much for the plot and that’s what compelled me so much the first time I read hp 😭 he’s so tragic I love it

4. Narcissa Black : younger sibling; once again similar pattern to regulus but she survived, she’s so smart I’m, like, shaky in the knees, (esp i love female characters who do what they have to do to survive), she’s powerful too, and jkr is shit at writing female characters and I will never not be pissed abt it but I do think cissa was very compelling (+ Helen McCrory’s acting game was sooo perfect), very protective of her family and will stop at nothing to protect them, and that’s a value I respect so much. I will say, in general, any member of the black family is very compelling to me. Bellatrix would come right after narcissa in terms of fave from that family.

5. Barty Crouch Jr : listen if you know me, you know I’m… idk how to define myself actually, but I like unhinged stuff so. This is like. Peak unhingedness. Paired with intelligence bc we know canonically that man was smart af, and daddy issues? Dark hair, too? You just described my type. He’s even more compelling in tragic storylines (like past bartylus and barty joining Voldemort for regulus and then faced w the delusion and the grief? Gut wrenching) so yup.

Favorite pairings :

1. Moonshine (remus/james) : I know this sounds weird but a certain fanfic re wrote my brain chemistry and ever since then I’ve been obsessed. I just think they’re so tragically beautiful together. They’re both very selfless beings that just give and give and never prioritize themselves and together it’s a mess. They keep hurting each other because they’re so selfless, they’re not very good at reading each other and they let their insecurities get the best, they’re both frightened of how much they love, of the other not wanting them, of needing to « tame » their emotions. I love them.

2. Prongsfoot : FUCKING FOAMING AT THE MOUTH ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Together they’re. They. Just. I hate them bc of how much I love them if that makes sense. They’re everything. A law of the universe and whatnot. I love everyyyy fucking version of them. They make me cry they make me scream they make me smile they make me laugh, they’re literally my comfort ship.

3. Jegulus : they’re kind of the pairing that made me join the fandom, and though I don’t read them as much as I used to, they’ll always make me so soft. Enemies to lovers? Yeah, well I’m not immune yk. Best friend’s brother? Even better. Tragic and doomed? Yeah sign me the fuck up. I will say I like them just as much when it’s jegulily, but that’s also because I think poly relationships are so complex and compelling.

4. Moonwater : and not platonic haha, i have to say that basically i ship anyone who’s very smart imo with regulus, and Remus passes the test. Plus he’s also introverted, a book nerd, done with James and Sirius so i feel like they could bond very easily. I prefer them in a non canon sitting tho for some reason, but yeah I’m. So fond of them. They get into heated debates. Even their ship name is so dear to me because, that’s like both their biggest fears and pairing them in one name feels like they can overcome them if they’re together ? 😭 it’s so sweet (plus, it allows me to ship prongsfoot on the side lmfao)

5. Regulily : same reasoning as up there but like they’re probs the only het pairings that I really really love. i never expected them to be so important (but *cough cough* disintegration happened…) but honestly they make a lot of sense? I feel like Regulus would be more confident with Lily, and Lily would feel more calm with Regulus? They’re that scary hot powerful quiet couple yk. Anddd they can bond over siblings angst lmao.

What’s a concept you always wanted to see in the show as a hypothetical team up?

Oooh one of my favorite types of DuckTales discussions ever!! Hypothetical Team-Ups!!

One team-up that's been on my mind that I've shared with like one other person would be Launchpad, Lena, and Louie

I always had this story in mind where the three of them would somehow get separated from the rest of the adventure group, leaving the three of them to work together to get back. Like I can see both Lena and Louie not wanting Launchpad in charge because you know, he ain't the sharpest crayon in the bread box, but I feel like this would make for a great story about how Launchpad is actually a really good responsible adult and is much smarter than people give him credit for

Both Lena and Louie are really clever (and snarky) kids in their own special way, but at the end of the day, they're still kids. There's still stuff they need to learn and Launchpad is the only Woodchuck of the group so I think he'd have some sick survival skills

I wish I had more for this story, but it's always been a concept and nothing more to me

Mega Con London BTS Recap

Since this is a more personal recap of MegaCon London (and a bit of a comparison with Back to the Musical World con by Dream It), I didn't include it in the JATP info dump from yesterday.

BTTMW backstory

Let's do some backstory first. As you may know, the official JATP cancellation was announced at the first Back to the Musical World con back in 2021. I wasn't there for multiple reasons including Covid but also I just got into the fandom and it felt weird. I'm socially awkward - I cannot look into people's eyes, I stutter - especially when talking English - or ramble and I struggle to just touch strangers which is not helpful for photo ops.

So what I was supposed to do there? These people are actors - strangers I have nothing to do with. They aren't the characters I've fallen in love with. Yeah, not my thing, I thought.

However, when the BTTMW2 got announced, I was like 'You know, let's go to just show the cast how much you loved the show'. It was supposed to give me some closure. So I went.

And while the con was a fucked-up disaster in terms of organization and schedule - on Sunday, Charlie signed autographs until 10 pm, and Owen would have done the same if his mom hadn't cut off his line. (On that note: Never mess with a German mom protecting her kid. You'll lose.) But meeting the cast was an entirely different experience. I'd never interacted with them before, so I was anxious as fuck. However, they were so nice and considerate - and seeing them goof around was just adorable.

And not just the cast. I met so many amazing people there who are now my friends. Big shoutout to them!

So, despite my hatred for Dream It, I went to BTTMW4 (and thankfully it was less chaotic than BTTMW2). But I was also determined to go to MegaCon bc I knew Jeremy wouldn't come back to Paris. (Unlike the other JATP cast members, he's done plenty of other cons before and knows that you shouldn't be so drained that require alcohol to make it through the day.)

BTTMW vs MegaCon London

So, just in general: MegaCon was clearly the better experience.

Firstly, it was cheaper than DI. Much cheaper.

(Note 1: The * prices are from 2022 since Jeremy wasn't at BTTMW4. In 2023, the photo with Madi, Owen & Charlie was already €180. All four would have been over €200 for sure.

Note 2: The prices for MegaCon were originally in £. The price in € is what I paid according to my credit card.

Note 3: Even though not 100% accurate: € = $)

Obviously, Charlie canceled later. But I automatically got a refund. So bonus for MegaCon.

Unlike with Dream It, you were allowed to film and take pictures everywhere, which was cool. And since the panels were exclusively in English, you actually got way more content. The panels were also much longer, and it seemed like the cast was more at ease. For example, Owen started to play body drums on stage, and he initiated the boomshakalaka without being drunk. This is such an incredibly sad thing to say, but I've never seen him that relaxed during a panel.

Also, shoutout to the many fans that were at the Saturday panel. According to the hist, it was the largest crowd they had on Saturday. (If MegaCon had been smarter and had announced the Sunday panel before the people got their passes, it would have had a huge audience, too.)

The autographs ran smoothly, and there was always a queue, which was good bc Own confirmed that it was Jeremy who convinced MegaCon to invite him and Charlie. (Madi got invited later - I assume after people haunted them on IG about her.) MegaCon was wary about it bc they had no idea if the cast was worth the money. I hope the audience on Saturday, the lines for the autographs, and the massive delays at the photo studio caused by the JATP fans (and technical issues) convinced them.

Side note: After Charlie canceled, I got an email from MegaCon. And obviously, I know they just used some phrases to placate us. But I still hope they meant it when they wrote,

MegaCon, you won't read this. But if you get them again, I'll be there!

(And again shoutout to the amazing people I met in London. To my fellow German tumblr friends: I loved meeting you guys and hanging out with you!)

So the only thing that wasn't great were the photo ops. Yeah, most of the Saturday photos are terrible bc of the fucked-up lighting, and due to technical issues, there were so many delays. (Though to be fair, BTTMW also had issues with photo ops.)

So overall, I genuinely enjoyed MegaCon, and I'm very excited to head off to Dublin on Saturday to give Jeremy the birthday card. To all the people who signed it: THANK YOU!

Some other random things that don't fit anywhere

Not Owen assuming that Deutsche Bahn must always be on time bc Germans are always on time. Bro, I know it's been a while since you visited Germany ... but please, that was mean.

When I gave him ghostie!Willie, Owen told me how much his family loves the little ghosties 🥹🥹🥹 (which explains why his dad was in my IG stories after he posted the pic of the ghosties.)

It's random, but this con was so much more balanced in terms of fans. I remember fans being kinda uninterested in Jeremy at the BTTMW - some fans even got angry at him bc he refused certain poses. At MegaCon, the interest was equally split between those three, and it made me happy.

Here's the lovely ghost merch I bought at MegaCon. Obviously, the pride ghost and the skateboard ghost are Willex, the couple is Juke, and the ghosts with the kitty and the one with the pumpkin are both Reggie! (I talked to the guys running the stalls, and they were so baffled about all the JATP fans - a few Fantoms came over from the US and Canada just for this con.)

Luffy is smarter than we think he is!

Luffy having a better grasp of the situation than Kid when imprisoned in Udon Prison and exploiting loopholes of the rules to get away with beating the shit out of Warden Hippo, shows how much he understands! Many people still don’t realise how smart he actually is when he is not goofing!

Yes, Luffy hitting a drunk Kaido immediately after arriving in Wano, that too alone was a reckless move. But we should give credit to Luffy where it is due, he spent one waking day in Wano and with Tama, and he immediately understood the root cause of all the misery and suffering is Kaido. And Kaido was the symbol of power, under whose name petty and selfish people were doing unforgivable crimes! And that symbol needed to be taken out of the equation for Wano’s population to live a decent life where clean food, water and air were a human right and not a luxury! Kaido needed to be taken out with urgency for the optimal result!

Luffy hit Kaido with the sole purpose of eliminating him immediately. It’s not that he didn’t understand the plan, to him if the end goal of the elaborate planning and plotting was to defeat Kaido and restore the old monarchy to bring peace, taking out the main guy on the first meeting is the most desirable solution. Luffy's brain is clear on the end goal; so why not do it from the beginning? The only issue was Luffy’s strength was not proportional to his anger to have defeated Kaido in one go!

But once he was put in Udon, finding Kid, his rival and peer who had been imprisoned longer than him, made Luffy understand that breaking out was not going to be easy. Hence, when Kid is ready to pound Warden Hippo, Luffy stops him.

Luffy understands actions have consequences, he always has understood this law. We saw it recently in Whole Cake Island as well, he understood. Be it picking a fight with Higuma the Bear in the first chapter or Punching Saint Charlos in the Human Auction House, he understands his well-meaning actions can have dire repercussions; but he also understands that he has to accept responsibility for his decision— that what makes him much more complicated than the goofball personality he exhibits.

Hence, Luffy stops Kid from beating Hippo in the eye of the public, because he knows that they don’t have the keys to their shackles, yet; they are weak and injured! Gaining strength and endurance patiently is the better option!

If there is no proof of crime or witness to the crime— did the crime happen? Kid understood it too and when other guards tried to scare them with the death penalty; Kid asked for the proof of their so-called crime!

Well this is something I have been claiming since the age of 11, ever since I saw Smoker Vs Luffy in Logue Town on television some eighteen years back! Yeah, I am that old fan of One Piece. After watching Wano Arc animated on screen, my belief is proven accurate again; Luffy is smarter than we think he is!

Smoker was right, Luffy is way smarter than he lets people believe.

Thinking about a 'sqq transmigrates (reincarnates) into dc' (specifically the jl because I don't know much about the rest), and who do you think would be funniest? I have narrowed it down to One but if anyone has anything better I'd love to hear it - Constantine, cap marvel and Manhunter were my top choices until:

Mainly because of the adoption problem and dozen kids with attachment issues, but also sqq spending his entire time internally shrieking I AM NOT CUT OUT FOR THIS I AM NOT PREPARED SYSTEM WHY DID YOU CHOOSE BATMAN. Trying so hard to fit the theme. Over preparing and stressing over every detail. A bit autism coded. 'I don't fall in love with anyone unless I choose to' wrong. 'You want me??? To?? Share my emotions?? My troubles??? I want to be a good parental figure but I would RATHER DIE'.

Alfred is best man but sqq has been fundamentally a rich kid for THREE lifetimes now. He is unsavagable. Acts all high and mighty for the show but self esteem is garbage. UTTER COMMITMENT TO THE BIT at this point (way post svsss canon) I think sqq would genuinely implode if he didn't have a mask to show the public.

System has followed him of course and has him by the scruff of his neck every time he thinks about a more peaceful life. It has very high ooc standards as always until he first puts on the mask.

I can see superman taking over lqgs role a little. Casual friend and bestie. Always ready to help (and occasionally sky uber). Brawn to his brain but smarter than people give him credit for. Ultimate power team. Romantic tension through the roof but never wants anything more (and Bruce is completely oblivious anyway). Everyone sees it though.

Everyone assuming Bruce spent a huge amount of time training in some ultra secret Chinese mountain range (technically they're not wrong!) but no system sent him to the league of assassins he's just using the excuse to work on his cultivation. (talia tried SO HARD to seduce him but it failed utterly so she gave up and stole his dna while he was asleep (he woke up the next morning to a mission success notification and freaked)).

Unlike what his kids except, is fully caught up with memes. They hate it but that just makes him use them more. On the plus side he is susceptible to rickroll. Peak 'my darling child would NEVER how dare' at events. The only ones who know he had (has???) a husband pre reveal.

So I am here… to defend Eustass Kid. I’m gonna be as impartial as possible as he is my second favorite OP character. The fandom over on twt already hates on him for no reason.

Much like the other anon said in the other Kid defense post, Kid isn’t afraid to let his emotions show especially when it comes to his crew. But that also extends to his competitive side. From his introduction he’s shown to be competitive with Luffy and Law. That doesn’t mean he’s entirely serious though, he’s actually really funny with some of his scenes where he’s this competitive.

In Wano when he and Luffy were in prison together. We see them compete to who can carry the most extremely heavy concrete blocks. (No I don’t remember why that was the labor in the prison I think it was a mine.) Later in Wano we see this.. silly competitive side return when Kaido attacks Luffy, Law, and Kid. Luffy says that whoever stands there the longest without moving out of the way wins. And stupidly the other two agree. It was a tie.

Kid is also way smarter than people give him credit for. One of his main hobbies is tinkering, hence the arm. He, and Law, managed to take down Big Mom together which was in part to Kid’s Devil Fruit. It’s been a minute, but from what I remember, he would use his newly awakened DF to attach metal to Big Mom to attack her.

So yes Kid is… very loyal, he has his silly moments, but he’s also smart.

Omg i kinda like the idea of reader having young kids cause i would love to see them interact with Ronal and Tonowaris and their kids. Tonowari let’s them climb him like a jungle gym ( that man kinda beefy omg) LMAO. With Ao’nung you know he’s rough around the edges so they had to pester him until he gave in and omgggg imagine he lets them meet his tulkun , that would just the the official bonding sibling moment. BUT IDK i saw that other people mentioned some of the sully kids wanting to run away with reader so that would be interesting , like reader would love to take them but she knows how she would feel if one of her children was taken from her. Kids are super smart it’s so scary. And Na’vi kids become mature from a young age, so they would definitely realise to stay away from reader. not because they don’t like her but more so they’re scared of what they’re parents would do to her if they hung out with her.

Reader would have the sweetest bond with Tsireya and Ao’nung 🫶🏼 it’s the same with Ronal and her kids, feeding them, looking after them, joining them on their recreational activities and letting them teach her about their home. When the tulkuns come back and readers able to meet the kids spirit brothers and sisters that would be an memorable moment and would definitely bring them all closer. And yes! Tsireya would follow her around like a cute baby duckling, she’s curious about her mama! she doesn’t wanna leave her alone! when the other metkayina kids see her do that maybe they’ll be inclined to follow, cause like, they’re curious too ya know. who’s this big blue stranger?

Reader would love to take Neytiri’s kids with her, because technically they’re hers too. But if she doesn’t have a strong bond with them then she most likely would not, and she would understand how upset Neytiri would be so she wouldn’t. But oh god she wants too!

Okay but genuinely imagine what Rob "creator and director of beautiful hilarious heartwrenching video game dramedy Mythic Quest's A Dark Quiet Death and Backstory! and Quarantine and Everlight and etc." Mcelhenney's (animated!) Minecraft movie might've been, could've been, like idk what his specific vision was for it, but it's clear he loves video games, and getting to the emotional core of things that on the surface you wouldn't expect more from while also balancing the humourous aspects, and I know he truly genuinely once had a passion for what he does, like at this point it doesn't matter what his idea was, I just know it was better than this, no joke, and I don't even care that much about this, I'm just sick of the hollow Hollywood cash grabs that didn't have to be that way! Like, I know it's technically a "kids movie" and I don't caaare, but kids movies used to mean something, too, and to think they can't, to think they have to be stupid and cringey and just colourful (not even in a pleasing way!) and empty while waving bad cgi, cheap costuming, lack of plot, bad jokes and people like Jack Black around to keep anyone's attention is an insult to the game, to the dedicated players and to the current and next generation's intelligence. Don't let them win. Kids are so much smarter than anyone wants to give them credit for anymore, and modern audiences deserve better, yes, even from a "silly" blockbuster adaptation.

Re Ashton’s grammar, sometimes I think he might do it on purpose? Because it gets talked about and it ‘confirms’ that dumb ‘they didn’t finish hs and it shows’ (or in Ashton’s case, ‘he’s the only one who finished hs but it doesn’t show’) bias, that too many people in this fandom like to spew at every opportunity. Academics don’t define intelligence! I’ve worked with university educated people who knew every theoretical aspect but couldn’t apply their knowledge to the actual work place. And look at what 5SOS have achieved! I’m honestly impressed with how they moved to the UK and later the USA at such young ages, and made it work, though I absolutely credit their tight friendship for that too.

Anyway, in a way I can see Ashton being a little troll with his grammar mistakes, for the engagement those posts get, but like you I despise how he’s painted an idiot because of it. But then I despise how Ash is always the scapegoat when something goes ‘wrong’ in people’s minds, and that he’s always the one that people demand an apology from (though sometimes just because he’s most likely to respond). He already feels responsible for everything and everyone around him, please don’t add even more to it, and possibly add to his mental health struggles. I completely agree that academics do not define intelligence and I recently wrote a paper in my multicultural psych class about how english grammar is such a gatekeeping factor in academia. the thing that really bothers me about the grammar thing is that people don't seem to understand Why someone would be making grammar mistakes. and it's not because they're stupid. it's just that they didn't have the opportunities that other people have had to learn. I see it a lot as someone who works at a college writing center. kids these days (after that fuckass No Child Left Behind Act) just get shoved through the system with very little specialized help.

i have tons of kids who come into my writing center who don't know the difference between there/their/they're or don't know how to use apostrophes or contractions, etc etc. I see pretty much everything in there. but these mistakes aren't because they're stupid; it's because they were pushed through a system that didn't care if they didn't know. and they're always just incredibly grateful when i point out the difference to them and give examples to help explain until they get it. and, honestly, the most fulfilling and also sad part of my job was this time that I explained they're/there/their to a freshman and he told me so sincerely, "Thank you for teaching me. No one's ever told me that before." and it just sort of hit me like a truck. like if u never had the chance to learn and then people are constantly ridiculing you for not knowing, it doesnt really make you want to learn, does it?? and who could blame you for that?? I'm sure people constantly poking fun at Ashton for his grammar doesn't make him want to correct himself either. and i'll also never get over the time one of my coworkers was bitching to me about a kid coming in who didn't know how to cite sources and she said to me "god, i just dont know why some of these kids are so stupid" and i felt my stomach sink. And any time that I see people calling Ashton dumb or pointing out his grammar use, I hear her voice now.

like there is not a single person in the world who is stupid. there are some people who are lazy and don't make effort to learn, sure !! but no one is stupid, they just haven't had the resources to learn and u ridiculing them for that doesn't make you smarter than them, it just makes u an asshole ESPECIALLY when you are in the privileged fucking position of teaching.

So, for me Ashton's bad grammar is now representing all of my writing center kids i care so much about and when i see people making fun of him, i see people making fun of them.

because, genuinely, people also need to consider that we learn grammar shit like that in 3rd grade y'know and then no one tries to teach it to you again. so if someone doesn't know that stuff by the time they're in adulthood, that means they weren't taught when they were a child and that's not funny, it's really sad and a genuine failing of our education systems.

anyways I love jailbreak cassidy. She's so sure Michael is the one at fault because he's constantly ruining people's lives. He ruined Evan's, didn't he? And she hates him for that. She refuses to believe that he's innocent in this because she hates him so much aughufhdhufd

and then when it comes out he is innocent, she's still aggressive to him. You may not have killed those kids but you hurt my friend. you hurt someone i love. you could have killed him.

and michael doesnt seem to have everyone's best interest at heart. he HATES his father for what he did, yes, and he hates what happened to those kids and especially charlie, but he's so fueled by personal rage and a grudge he's had for over ten years now.

Michael is impulsive and violent, Cassidy is cold and calculating. She knows how to twist it to work. No, Michael's idea of killing William directly is horrible, but William DOES need to die.

She also has fights with Charlie over it, that Evan tries to diffuse but in the end he doesnt agree with cassidy. its hard, he doesnt want more people to die. Locking up Michael won't help anyone, locking up William is a temporary fix. He always comes back.

Eventually they talk Cassidy into helping them catch William. She is a master at collecting evidence when in the right mindset. shes smarter than people give her credit for.

But she's not going to turn him in. No, she's going to confront him. She knows what he's done and she knows he'll scrabble at the ground to salvage it. so all she needs to do is plant a seed.

when I started shipping it if I did:

I started genuinely shipping them when I played Engage for myself, because that's when I realized that oh. Oh this works so well.

my thoughts:

OHHHH THEY'RE SO GOOD. The parallels are immaculate, their dynamic is super silly in lighthearted moments and so heavy during more serious ones, they give hopelessly in love vibes and, you know. I adore them platonically too, obviously.

What makes me happy about them:

Yunaka finding love and support from her god of all people, someone who she always thought would judge her to be irredemable and instead adores her, and Alear trusting Yunaka despite her being expicitly sketchy being the first step in their self-forgiveness. When you think about it, Yunaka's background is basically an abridged version of Alear's.

Just, idk. They make me so happy!

What makes me sad about them:

Oh boy. Their pasts and their trauma. Yunaka's constant self-loathing and fear of her past coming to the surface and impostor syndrome and thinking Alear's too good for her. Alear's discomfort at being treated like a god and feeling alienated because of it. Past Alear. Just... Past Alear.

things done in fanfic that annoys me:

I don't think I've found anything that actually annoys me, to be honest. Which is good.

things I look for in fanfic:

Both the fluff with them being silly together (pre and post relationship) but also the angst of them dealing and opening up about their trauma.

How I feel about this character: 

Love her! She's such a good mix of silly and serious, she can be really goofy but also she's one of the smartest people of the cast and will not fuck around with people she deems a threat, but she's super chill with anyone else!

If I had to describe her in a word, it would be "Fun".

All the people I ship romantically with this character: 

Ivy's a fun one (thanks Koto), but her, Merrin and Panette are so polycule shaped. Oh, and Nel too!

My non-romantic OTP for this character: 

Veyle! The fact she goes from being among the most skeptical about her to one of the most supportive once she actually joins for good is so interesting, and also the contrast between someone so carefree (on the surface at least) and someone who feels ashamed to even be alive. Just, idk. I really like them.

I think she'd be besties with Alfred too, wish they had supports together.

My unpopular opinion about this character: 

She's smarter than she looks, her voice is great and she's a lot more interesting than people give her credit for.

Also the fact the Solm siblings are the most overlooked ones of the cast is... sus, to say the least. This fandom is not escaping the racism allegations.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

I wish she was more involved in the story. Compared to the other roylas she and Fogado don't go through much that directly involves them, you know?

Oh also while I'm not sure I would actually want it in canon, recruitable Fell Timerra would've been cool.
