so im sure everyones fully well aware of the magic 8 ball site fob is using to promote a contest to win some tickets to see them in nashville. the little 8ball widget theyve got in browser is also modeled on the physical 8ball that they had in the vip merch packages for tourdust's first leg, which is cool! but of particular note is the way that, to fill out the contest form, you have to pick your favorite fall out boy songs. and the sheer breadth of what is allowed is...interesting? it's not cohesive by any means, but it is really wild the selection of songs they have here because not all of them are fob songs. in fact, quite a few of them aren't.

With 17 versions to buy and 8 versions combined for 160 streams per Spotify account, plus Melon and FLO streams now counting, of course Jungkook’s Seven is charting high and sweeping awards. Firstly because it’s Jungkook of course, and secondly because it’s been given every possible advantage.

My (perhaps controversial) opinions about that are below the cut.

Honestly? I really can’t feel good about any “first” or “most” or “fastest” records achieved by this single—catchy as it is—which wasn’t written or conceived by Jungkook and has nothing much personal or deeply meaningful about it. It’s a fun feel-good summer pop song, for sure, but no more groundbreaking than, say, Bad Decisions (in my opinion… I have no musical expertise.)

But I can’t feel super great about all the records and awards because this many versions immediately restocked and shipped and auto play and promoted to radio and ads and leadership hyping only this while Jungkook says he wants to be the one and only artist to conquer kpop and pop for the next thousand years… it all just doesn’t really sit right with me.

When compared to the 10 months Jimin forewent sleep, food, and showers to have a hand in every aspect of his first (and deeply personal and symbolic) album, which was never sent to radio or restocked, got split tracks and delayed playlisting and shady articles, plus not one kudos or congratulations from leadership even after he made history for South Korea and stocks soared…

Forgive me, but it all leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It is ruining the song for me.

Some things like culled streams and sales are out of the company’s control. But the things I mentioned above were all possible for Jimin’s Hot 100 #1. Even if every Tannie has total say in their projects' sales and marketing, and everyone was on board with only Jungkook getting the Hybe America "red carpet" treatment, I can’t lie and say the stark difference feels fine. It doesn't, and I confess I leave the headphones in every time Seven comes up in the playlists now.

I’m not jealous. If anything, I have a warped sense of pride that Jimin has done so fantastically well despite so many, many obstacles stacked against him. I love to champion an underdog and I’m glad I never need to doubt his success was organic. I actually feel extra admiration for how humble and hardworking he continues to be—no resting on any laurels for the It Boy. I'm so glad he is my ult-bias.

Listen to me.

I know Jungkook and Jimin are both genuinely good people. I know they are sincerely talented and hard working. I know they truly love each other. I know all members are legitimately happy for each others' success.

I know what’s important to me may not be important to them, nor what they want for their careers. And even if I feel their company’s making shitty decisions, I know my place as a fan.

So I trust them. And I simply hang in. I hope lessons were learned for smoother, fairer future releases. Because neglecting assets makes zero business sense, and perceived favoritism can erode the group’s bonds and tear ARMY apart. It is, frankly, just plain stupid.

So I may dislike things about their solo era rollouts and I can't bring myself to sugar-coat it; but I mostly try to keep my negative thoughts to myself and find things I CAN celebrate with other fans on an open timeline.

I never want another Tannie to feel anguished and misunderstood the way Hobi did about JitB’s physicals.

Watching Jungkook’s face here on his London live when he talks about people hating him just haunts me. It guts me. I can't stand it. That kid was going through it and I don't believe he has a malicious bone in his body, so it just really upsets me seeing him like that.

There’s so, so much about this company, this industry, this culture that I just don’t understand. But I trust Park Jimin completely. As long as Park Jimin loves and supports his members, God knows, I will too.

So!! On that note...

We have Jungkook’s birthday to celebrate next week and Taehyung’s album to support the week after that. I’m going to do my best to rest up and gather some good energy for these things!

And of course, we must congratulate our Jimin, who made history again today, and no matter what, will always set the standard. I just know he's cooking up something else for us with all these weeks of silence, and I cannot wait to go BERSERK for it whenever it drops.

I guess what I mostly wanted to share with my friends here is that it’s okay to feel really disappointed and even enraged at the way some things play out over the (hopefully life-long) careers of BTS members. In the end, only the Tannies really know what's going on with the Tannies.)

I get the basic theories for tswift flop. But as someone who genuinely really liked Lover and Folklore and liked Evermore (if I remember correctly you did too, with perhaps additional fondness for Evermore), do you have a theory for how she dredged up that upswing before crashing so so hard to her lowest point?

I lovedddddddd lover. I didn’t even listen to it in the age of #hype I fully heard lover for the first time and was streaming it like it was my job in 2023. Folklore I like evermore I couldn’t name a single song from but it’s good I guess. My theory. I think lover and reputation are actually pretty similar quality wise. You show me reputation and say and then she made LOVER. and I go. Yeah okay. Some solid goofy chunks on both which is fine yeah Taylor let’s get goofy. Some solid bangers on both. Some solid yearners on both. I think. I think a lot about how her reaction to rep losing a Grammy was to immediately start writing a new album. Lover a direct response to reputation not getting rewarded. She was trying to outdo herself. And. I think. My theory. Is that a switch flipped at Some Point post folkevermore. Because people liked those I think I’m pretty sure people were giving those good scores. And instead of trying to Make A Better Record. She has since been trying to Make A Relevant Record. I think something happened to her and she got scared about failing at Being The Best Artist but said but by god can I churn out stuff that will make me the Most Popular Talked About Culturally Relevant Artist. I fully think she’s switched metrics because she’s thinking in terms of cultural capital. Idk WHY. because she’s doing fuck all with it except complain about it and ink nfl sponsorships to get More Obscene Amount Of Money. But I don’t think she’s approaching albums as art anymore I think she’s just kind of putting in the effort of a little hobby in terms of songwriting / performance. Because I do think she is experiencing more and more worry about being toppled, especially because she is, in terms of popularity, The Top right now. And she doesn’t feel confident in her ability to maintain The Top through quality bc her previous attempts at quality did not do as well as she wanted. There’s also the fact that quality requires time Away from the spotlight where you become less relevant. For an album that might not even do well. I think also maybe her lesson from red rerelease doing well was not “people like red because it’s good songs because I spent lots of time on it” but “oh people like 31 song albums”. So .

this is long btw... and broken into sections in no particular order.

1. marketing

i, like many other fans, saw the teaser dropped and assumed the movie wouldn't be out at least until the end of the year, as par the tradition with most movies. However, this isnt movies, in fact i think forge released this movie at the perfect time for a couple reasons. the first beingo that the release date was on Litha, also known as the summer solstice. the reason this is significant is that many ceremonies for this holiday include celebrations with large groups, something that RHRN provided. I felt like this really added to the aspect of attending a "ritual". another reason forge was quite smart for this is that the hype for people around the world to see what happened at the Kia Forum hadnt died down yet. this worked in his favour, considering this sudden drop brought up the attention again.

i really liked that they used Father Jim Defroque as a marketing tactic. Especially considering it connected festival goers at Download to feel connected with fans that weren't there. The use of Jim's posters at download was very fun too, and fitting they got vandalised due to non-ghost fans assuming it was a real priest. for me that added to the authenticity that he's a real person that is very serious about protesting this movie!!!

i also liked the experimentation going on, even if it doesnt go to plan (problems with the jim video drop), the fact that these new mediums are being tested out allows room to figure out kinks and try them again in the future. it added to the interactive element, and made me forget tobias existed, and that this was a very real band and there were very real things going on that i had to be weary of.

2. Music

One thing i did notice is the improvement in quality compared to their previous live album, Ceremony and Devotion. Obviously theres a big change in vocals, i was very surprised that Copia's vocals seemed a lot more high pitched than what i had remembered.

the easiest comparison i can make that's accessible to everyone right now here Rite Here Rite now's Absolution, and Ceremony and Devotion's Absolution. most notably for me was the backing vocals and the presence of this growling and sinister tone, that i really enjoyed. the overall quality is definitely there too, i'm not certain on the specifics but i know for a fact there was a very different set up this time around, compared to C&D.

if you have ghost live, was such a haunting moment. theres many little elements, the backing vocals, the gorgeous piano, and the incredible cello players had a huge part in making this version sound the way it did. the amount of passion and emotion here reflected the message of the song, there was a sense of unity that i felt really stood out.

Its also worth talking about The Future is a Foreign Land. oh my god i cried when i heard this for the first time. this song really encapsulates that sort of bond-esque era of music, undeniably it had that 60s ring to it. It did also remind me of Magna Carta Cartel (more so than subvision, i dont think subvision has quite the same sway as this specific song). i know some others have pointed this out and i'm glad.

from a story point, this song is really interesting. considering we previously had no context of how nihil responded following the events of kiss the go-goat, it was kind of cathartic to know that he did genuinly feel bad for his actions. more about this in the use of animation though.

For tobias forge, this song was really interesting. i felt like it was a bit too blatant having the mention of 2024, i guess it felt like it was implying that from that moment nihil knew that thqt was the year copia would take over as head of the clergy, or at least that seestor would die. which wouldnt make sense? i dont think? idk comments are on, share what you want.

3. Animation/mixed mediums

i wasnt sure how the animation element would tie in with the movie when i first saw it announced, but honestly i think this was the best way to do it. while i was a bit disappointed to see nothing new from liz fenning and justin andrews, the decision to lean into the comments of ghost making scooby doo music and using that artsyle was very fun.

i also felt like this was a time effective way of explaining the events post kiss the go-goat. seestor's idgaf attitude was amazing, im so glad that this didnt fall back on letting nihil get the girl in the end. characters dont have to get back together, and im glad they didnt. this felt more real and more personal, the two of them only sticking around to work and to make sure their children grew up to serve their duties.

the overlay during year zero was so fucking cool. i think its clips from swedish black comedy "Häxan" but i could be very very wrong. this made me very happy though, i wasnt expecting this and was a nice way to throw in some references to swedish media, especially one that also enjoys making fun of the fear around witchcraft and satanism,

4. the ghouls!!

suspiciously well behaved. did not expect that. i was a bit disappointed that we didnt see that much of them and that they were so well behaved??? what happened to my feral creatures???

as per usual, their perfomances were amazing. the backing vocals sent me to heaven, i think best example of this is during mary on a cross, or kaisarion. Seeing Phantom and Dew show off their silly skills was very fun, love me a man that can become a pretzel while he serenaded me with songs of satan. while i am upset that we lost Aether, im glad his replacement is bringing some silliness to his role and seeing his growth with the band had been really rewarding.

i will say cirrus's reaction to seestors death did get me. like damn. youre right this is sad. i think also seeing someone die is actually quite shocking, we dont really know much about seestors relationships with the ghouls so theres not a whole bunch i can add.

im so glad they werent unmasked, i feel like that would've ruined the mystery of what ghouls look like. and i mean not as performers but as fictional creatures. everyone has their own version, similar to how Vessel from Sleep Token keeps on his mask to allow the audience to project onto him.

hearing rain's voice scared the shit out of me. i forgot he knew how to do that.

5. the off stage segments

i am so glad this is how the movie was broken up. what comes to mind for me is copia and nihil in the box just before if you have ghost. this was a gut punch of a moment for me, for a deadbeat parent to just decide they want to be there all of a sudden, because your other parent is bothering you? i did appreciate that big drop of "oh yeah actually i had three songs oops anyway deep breaths loser youre on"

the sudden drop of something like that is insane, and nihil being so smug about it, knowing that he's been keeping that quiet for so long just aaaaaah. but also i get why it was kept quiet, considering how personal the Future is a Foreign Place is to him.

it was at this point i began to cry. and i did not stop crying at this movie, even past the credits.

i did love that there was like no real chemistry between copia and Ashley. like yes, she has a job to do, and copia is known for being useless around women. and also like, theyre co-workers, they dont need to have romantic relations. i liked that!!

i am going to jump to the ending. post encore after the hot air balloon scene. i will not be spending much time on this because my dumbass really believed that copia would just float away into space and thats the movie over.

seestor's death was so unexpected. but i think it made sense. i have mixed feeling about her, mainly the whole "lol yeah i told my 55 year old son i was his mum last month and now ive decided to parent" but thats mainly it. she has a job to do, and she does it well. shes also just the baddest bitch in the world.

i was crying at her dying. and then hearing Copia's pathetic cries had me choke at the emotional whiplash as my friend laughed at me. and i laughed at copia because what the fuck was that noise bro.

AND SHE DIED IN HER HEELS??? girl is serving cunt in the afterlife thats C-U-N-T spells CUNT

finding out copia has a twin (?) was also very shocking, id always assumed he was named Copia becauses hes a copy of his dad, not because like... hes one of two??

Post credits had the entire audience gagged. firstly, seeing copia out of his red tracksuit and wearing his fancy new suit that came with being promoted to Father Imperator (or frater imperator, as some have dubbed him which makes sense and is fair) had me yeowling like a cat being dragged to the vets. Tears were over by this point, i was so proud of him. and happy that forge didnt lie, copia dient die he just now is the real one in charge.

the does also shine a light on how papa doesnt actually have any power, he's just a pawn for the clergy (secondo spitting out im a marrionette??? hello??? he knew full well that he was never the one in charge which is insane. but also fitting for him as a person).

if you're still reading i am very impressed. heres where i put the conclusion;

in conclusion, for Forge's first movie, this was AMAZING. For a band that was originally meant to be scary, its nice seeing them be silly and lean into the things people joke about. they're self aware, and they're fun. i really hope there are future installments and that we get an expansion on the lore (tv show when???)

ACTORS — In Real Life. One of my favorite darkwave bands put out a new single!! I’ve been really hype for new music from them and this track is really good. Been listening to it a bunch.

Clan of Xymox — Louise. I’m about to throw some real classic obvious stuff at y’all cuz I’ve been spending some time with some old faves recently. Been having a Xymox moment. They’re so good.

Siouxsie and the Banshees — Monitor. Man the other day I just threw on Juju for the first time in a bit and was like damn. I can’t believe she did all that. 1981 dropping like legendary iconic classic after classic back to back like that. It’s a cold take I know but god I love this song.

New Order — Age of Consent. This song came on at the club for the first time in ages recently and it went offffffff it was so nice to hear it.

Virgin Prunes — Bau-Dachöng. Sorry for being goth. Was reminded of this album awhile back so I’ve been revisiting it a bunch. I swear it was before St Patrick’s Day I’m not one of those guys I promise.

Male Tears — Creep Distance. This album just screams summertime for me, especially summer 2022 for me. As the weather clears up a little here and the sun is finally coming out I’ve been super nostalgic. Sounds like rum and cherry cola with lime.

Choir Boy — Two Lips. Polar opposite of Male Tears, Choir Boy just screams the nostalgia of cold winter nights, especially their first album.

New Technomancy Project was SO GOOD!! And I was FUCKING RIGHT!!! I said this before but I love having all of them play Belial's game this time around and I don't think there's a single EPO agent who didn't make me cry this ep. The Technomancy Project continues to kick ass

☕️ Musical from the last 5 years (lol) that i should listen to

my god *i* don't even really listen to many musicals from the last five years because i sort of stopped paying attention after like 2019 when the MT fandom on here died down considerably. yes i work in musical theatre. don't look at me

okay here are some of my suggestions in no particular order based on shows i've actually managed to listen to and enjoy

sing street - one of the great theatrical casualties of covid - the cast literally moved into the theatre on the day the broadway shutdown started and the subsequently postponed bway transfer has just never materialised. they did have an out of town production in 2022 though :)) anyway, love this album, one of the few MT cast recordings that makes it onto my general listening playlists because several of the songs also work really well as standalone pop tunes

& juliet - if you just want to have a silly fun time listening to a jukebox musical this is thee one. bonkers little plot but it's packed with bangers throughout and repurposes its pop soundtrack into a musical theatre context in ways that range from unexpectedly genius (turning britney's "i'm not a girl, not yet a woman" into a nonbinary anthem) to really stupid in the funniest way possible (an entire character is named just to set up a *NSYNC joke)

kimberley akimbo - 2023 best musical winner, a solid example of the typical contemporary musical theatre sound which handily fulfills both the niche of "i enjoy shows like dear evan hansen and want another emotional teen story" and "i want more good meaty lead roles for older actresses"

a strange loop - 2022 best musical winner, a meta show about a fat black queer man who works as a theatre usher and is writing a musical about a fat black queer man writing a musical. filled with commentary about race and sexuality, definitely one for if you want your musicals to be thought & discussion provoking

shows i've not personally listened to for whatever reason but i've heard good things

operation mincemeat - i've heard nothing but hype about this show to the point where it's actually put me off seeing it. so of course i am perpetuating the cycle by recommending it to you without ever having listened to it

standing at the sky's edge - another west end show that i have heard so many good things about and not got around to seeing. so here you go. blind rec. fuck it

octet - i kind of went off dave malloy entirely around 2018 through zero fault of his own, god bless him, just because many of his fans were still being so annoying about the 2017 tonys. but i've heard good things about this show and maybe i need to actually get over myself and give it a listen

Eminem - The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace)

Millennials seem to love rapper Eminem, don’t they? A lot of people my age, or just a bit older, grew up with the music of Marshall Mathers, and they’re nostalgic for his brand of offensive, edgy, and offbeat humor and bars. Eminem had some hits back in the day, but you really could make an argument that he’s washed up. Hell, I’d make that argument, but I’ve also never been a fan of his work. Millennials love it, though, and every now and again, you’ll see videos from millenials that claim Gen Z is trying to “cancel” him, and it’s so painful to watch. The funny thing is, no one is trying to cancel him, when it’s really that Gen Z just doesn’t care about him.

I’m in the same boat, despite being of the age that should love his music. I suppose I’ve just never seen the hype for it, despite being able to acknowledge that Em has talent as a rapper. He’s got a solid flow, and he has the ability to spit pretty fast, but I’ve always said that rapping fast doesn’t equal being good. You can rap fast, but if you’re not saying anything worthwhile, who cares? That’s how I’ve felt about most of his work. I listened to the Marshal Mathers LP II back a decade ago, and thought that way about “Rap God.” An impressive flow, but spoke almost gibberish.

Saying Eminem sucks won’t win me any friends, and I might be in the minority when I say that, but his “2edgy4u” shtick never struck a chord with me. There are better rappers out there, so why people want to listen to Eminem baffles me, but he’s back with a new album — The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace). I’ve ignored his music in the last decade, but I figured I’d check this out because this album is supposedly the final appearance of his character Slim Shady. Shady is basically his justification for using slurs and offensive language, but I guess Em wants to grow up, despite being 51-years-old, so does this album succeed in that?

No, not really, because despite this album being called The Death Of Slim Shady, most of this album has Em making a profit off the character he’s claiming to want to move on from. This album is told through some skits where Slim kidnaps Em, and they have a back and forth on a lot of tracks, only for Em to finally kill Slim Shady at the two-thirds mark. The last third is Em being himself finally, but he proves he has nothing to say outside of his edgy Slim Shady persona. It’s also easily in the top three of the worst albums I’ve heard all year, and only a couple of other albums this year have pissed me off to this same level, maybe even more.

This record employs a lot of typical Slim Shady tropes, such as using slurs and offensive language to sound edgy and cool, as well as insulting various groups of people to be relevant. Relevant to who? I can’t say for sure, but probably his immature fanbase of conservative white dudes that think saying slurs is funny, especially insulting trans people. Em is weirdly obsessed with three things on this LP — insulting trans people, mentioning Caitlyn Jenner, and wanting Gen Z to cancel him. It makes for some of the corniest and most awful music you’ll hear all year, especially coming from a grown man, and it makes me cringe and makes me angry.

There are some awful transphobic bars on this record that aren’t even funny, but he insults other people, too, and there’s no rhyme or reason for it. He keeps begging Gen Z to cancel him, too, but they’re not, though, so he sounds really desperate. It’s almost funny, but in a sad way, like he’s begging for relevance. When he isn’t being edgy and corny, he’s got songs that are titled, and I kid you not, “Lucifer,” “Antichrist,” and “Evil,” where he talks about how he’s evil, the antichrist, and the devil, and all that corny ass stuff. Maybe a few clever bars show up here and there, but it’s bad.

When he has to be himself, he talks about his daughter, making two songs about her on this album for some reason, and they’re as bland as you can get. Eminem is just trying to make a 90s / 00s Em album in 2024, despite not being young and relevant anymore. Sure, the album has some solid production, and some of the guests are good, but Eminem’s just being Eminem, and it feels dated and cringy now. Who is this for? The transphobic and offensive bars are corny, lame, and unfunny, and everything else is nothing new, so why bother?

For being called The Death Of Slim Shady, he really milked that character for most the album’s hour-long runtime. This album sucks, plain and simple. It’s one of the worst albums of the year, and it’s a shame, because he can do better. He’s got technical skill, but instead of actually honing his craft, he sounds like a 12-year-old who learned a new cuss word, and won’t shut up about it. I’m not even “triggered,” either, because most people who love Em think that anyone who doesn’t like him can’t handle his offensive bars, when it’s really that he sucks, and his shtick is for edgy teenagers, or Millennials that have their rose-colored glasses on.

- there are so many consoles, bean bag chairs, and even a pool table. yeah they hook it up real nice B) they still even have that old couch of theirs!

- they meet there pretty frequently after school, always at least one day out of the week. it’s like a second home for them

- nigel’s parents install a ring camera at the door and they all have the app downloaded to see whatever messages are left on there 😭 they always send them in the gc they have together

- hoagie is the first to get his license so he’ll give his friends rides pretty often

- he inherits this old beat up van from his aunt. and wow it is UGLY

- oh but of course everyone has to respect his “Betsy” because she’s his beautiful lady

- and if you don’t respect Betsy… well you’re gonna have to walk

- hoagie also treasures Betsy because well that’s where him and abby had their first kiss

- never forget when they all were going to get pizza after school in hoagie’s van and it broke down mid drive

- no like Betsy gave out 2 miles before they got there and everyone was yelling at hoagie to just get rid of the van

- nigel could’ve gotten his license first because he is the oldest but he just never really got the time to because he’s always busy in school

- and yeah they make fun of him because this boy doesn’t even have his permit

- wally gets his license after hoagie, then abby, and then kuki who was a little scary to teach how to drive 😭

- wally being the loving boyfriend he is would try to show her but oh god would his patience run a little thin

- because well he drives a pickup. and kuki hates pickups, at least driving them. she’s a passenger princess when it comes to driving w her bf 🤷🏼‍♀️

- like the passenger seat is specifically reserved for her bc she’s made it her own

- and well because wally only likes to drive next to her 🤔

- even though they fight over the radio but that’s another story

- speaking of that abby usually always has the aux because this girl has the best fucking music taste 😭

- like she always knows what the group is feeling that day so the right songs are ALWAYS PLAYEDDD

- one day after school they all make a shared spotify album for their car rides

- abby likes r&b and some pop, kuki is a pop girl and just party music, hoagie also really likes r&b and just old classics, and omg is he a tyler the creator dickrider me too, no one ever really knows what nigel listens to but he always knows every song they play, and wally is into rock and nu-metal

- but what always gets everyone hyped is like old justin timberlake for some reason LMFAOOO like My Love Featuring T.I. never fails in that car

- never forget when they hotboxed the absolute SHITTTT out of hoagie’s van LMAO

- well because idk i headcanon wally is a smoker 🤷🏼‍♀️ not a crazy pothead but you know it helps him relax so why not

- and you know maybe one day he rolled some for his friends on a saturday night when nigel’s parents were out of town

- definition of perfect opportunity ^^^^

- and that was the only way nigel agreed😭he was freaking out over the smell it would make in his house

- kuki had gotten high ONCE before because well she was curious of why her boyfriend liked to do it

- and he didn’t want her to smoke alone or with other people without knowing how she’d react so he made sure she only smoked when they were together that first time

- and yeah she’s a giggler

- so yup the sesh was a little funny because abby’s tolerance was good, she felt so relaxed, kuki is a big laugher so everything becomes funny, hoagie becomes a TALKER OH MY GOD he does not stop talking and nigel FINALLY RELAXES

- he was the most hesitant which is funny because after he starts regularly asking if they can have a sesh after school he feels like a bad boy it’s really funny

- i mean, he’s in charge of EVERYTHING at school and he’s an all honors kid🤷🏼‍♀️and lizzie just drives his ass crazy. he needs to de-stress somehow

- their usual thing to do is get high and watch movies in the basement. oh and food is always ordered no matter what time it is😭those 5 can EAT

- the 711 runs after are always the best

- sometimes they run into people from school at 711 and those people always kind of envy the friendship the 5 have

- they stayed close from elementary through middle and all the way to highschool. no one ever said anything to them but, lots of people admired the bond they had for all being so different

- wally is well respected in school, not because he’s a bully like how he used to be, but because he’s cool if you are. if you leave him alone, he’ll leave you alone. if you don’t mess with his friends ESPECIALLY his girlfriend, ur fine. but get on his nerves? and ur screwed

- not only is he respected bc of that but because he’s the school’s best soccer player. no one could really pick on him, he was strong, he had gotten diagnosed with adhd and dyslexia so finally was able to maintain his grades (people finally stopped calling him dumb) he was cool as long as you are, and he just grew up (especially in height that boy got TALL)

- he learned how to maintain his anger too because of his lovely girlfriend , kuki sanban!

- Gallagher High’s sweetheart. she was smart, pretty, SO WELL RESPECTED, and a social butterfly. you could NOT hate kuki sanban, maybe out of jealousy, but never for any other reason

- she tutored underclassmen, participated so much in school events, and was a cheerleader. none of that ever got to her head though, she was still the same sweetheart everyone knew in elementary

- but she’s also another one that is only cool if you are. if you mess with her, her friends, her boyfriend, or her little sister? she will not give you the time of day

- wally taught her how to defend herself better while she taught him how to better control his anger. yeah they’re cute (i love them so much can you tell???)

- hoagie is the school’s pretty quiet boy. he’s an ambivert. he seems very introverted at first but once you become his friend , that boy is social! he’s also in band but he’s those really cool band kids everyones friends with

- people also FINALLY started thinking he was funny too. he and wally pull pranks in school all of the time

- some people called him a nerd and would make fun of him but wally got that all to end and people started giving him a chance

- he’s a dnd player i don’t make the rules

- everyone meet dnd club’s president hoagie gilligan🫡

- lots of people had crushes on him but his eyes only stayed focused on one girl, abby lincoln :)

- everyone loved abby, everyone had always liked her since elementary school! she was kind and just fucking COOLLL she’s a badass

- everyone knows abby in school and abby knows everyone. she could befriend anyone no matter what “clique” people thought you belonged to

- she’s on the schools track team and WOW is she good

- the group always goes to support her at her track meets :’) she is definitely someone to watch

- she gets offered lots of scholarships because of track. when i tell you she’s good, SHE IS GOOD!

- and lastly we have our nigel uno! the silent cool guy

- no really, everyone knows him, but unlike abby, he does not know everyone 😭 he’s kind of just focused on his goals and his friends

- when highschool first started, people liked to pick on him for doing so much at school and being a perfectionist. but then people actually got to the know the kid and he was a cool guy

- and when rumor spread that someone saw THE nigel uno high at 711 with his friends, people knew there was more than just a strict/un-fun layer to him

- he was the grade’s class president and actually handled his stuff pretty well. he knew wrong from right and when there were good and bad times for things. he was so well respected by teachers and his fellow other geeks

- and well people kind of dug his british accent LMFAOAOAOA

- he gets confused when popular kids nod their head to him or fist bump him but he doesn’t question it. he thinks no one knows him but they all really do

- and plus. you couldn’t be in a friend group with the other 4 and not be admired in some way. when i tell you the school all knew their iconic group, i mean it

- in a place with petty drama and rumors, people wanted what those 5 had. a real bond and love for eachother

Out of all the releases I've been interested in these past two months, I feel like I've listened to barely any of them :( But I've really, really loved the ones I've gotten around to checking out, so I've been having a great couple months of music anyway! My music taste is in its seasonal transition--plenty of bleak winter stuff this month, but I've been craving big heartstopping pop anthems, too (G-IDLE's "Revenge" isn't on here, but I've been loving it lately).

1. Ahora y Aquí -- Ramon Mirabet, Bely Basarte

So I keep saying I'm tired of the 80s-inspired synthpop trend that's taken over our post-"Blinding Lights" world, but here I am with this at the top of my list. No but this one's DIFFERENT, SHE'S NOT LIKE OTHER SYNTHPOP. As with most tracks blessed by Bely Basarte, the vocals are what elevates this for me--they're unexpectedly gritty for a sleek pop track like this, and when both singers let it all out in that last chorus, I understand what it means to go feral. It has all the uncontrolled chaos of a real dance party, and I love it!!

2. Lejos -- Andrea Santiago

This is a pretty by-the-numbers Andrea Santiago song, but even the most average of her music is a world of its own to escape into. I'm not sure how to feel about this new album--something feels really off about the production--but "Lejos" is absolutely hypnotizing! Definitely going to be bringing this one out at karaoke sometime, because it's exactly my type of angst (and the chorus jumps are SOOO fun to sing???).

3. Turning Tables -- Adele

I sulked to this song all month, and I don't regret a minute of it.

4. Goodbye, My Danish Sweetheart -- Mitski

Do I win sapphic points for having Mitski in the top 5?

5. Is It Over Now? (Taylor's Version) -- Taylor Swift

LETS FAST FOWARD TWO THREE HUNDRED TAKEOUT COFFEES LATER !!!!!! Yeah I'm completely obsessed with that line. Taylor Swift always releases songs that are just SO fun to sing along to, so I'm running around my apartment like YOU SEARCH IN EVERY MODEL'S BED FOR SOMETHING GREATER, BABY !!!! This song is such an off-balance mix of humor and agony, so like I don't really understand it but I can't take my eyes off it. And that intro is GORGEOUS.

6. Easy -- Le Sserafim

I didn't get the hype for "Perfect Night", so I didn't particularly care either way about this comeback--until I heard it. And oh my god "Easy" got me on first listen. ("Smart" has been working its way up my On Repeat playlist, too.) Le Sserafim stole all my new-release energy this month, but my appreciation for "Easy" still hasn't died out. A silky-smooth song like this is perfect for my mood right now--their delivery is so casually confident, contagious enough that I can't help but feel stronger when I listen to it; but it's not so energetic that my poor gloomy winter-brain is overwhelmed. The production is really crisp, too, complimenting the vocals well and making for some really iconic moments. And yes i'm aware this is gg "Sticker". I still can't listen to "Sticker" (it gives me a headache), but this version isn't too annoying for me, I guess?

7. Unstoppable -- Sia

I actually don't have a real explanation for this one? I remembered this song existed mid-month (after having forgotten about it since 2016), had a crisis with it as a soundtrack, and now it's in the playlists.

8. Roaring 20s -- Panic! At The Disco

Burnout anthem?? Burnout anthem.

9. Outta My Head -- Jeon Somi

My commentary on every Somi song ever is just "Somi sing so pretty SQUEEEEEEEE". So, that's my review for "Outta My Head". I don't know if people still like this one, but my love for it hasn't died since "Birthday" era!

10. Budget (feat. Latto) -- Megan Thee Stallion, Latto

@shyreol got me with her Megan Thee Stallion agenda! I don't think I'd ever cared for a Megan Thee Stallion song before this year, but "Ungrateful" and "Budget" have me HOOKED.

11. Now That We Don't Talk (Taylor's Version) -- Taylor Swift

I don't know, I just really like it when the title drop goes BOOM !!

Faux Paz is back for round two on my 2024 monthly lists! They're my favorite holdover from my acappella days--their arrangements always hit hard, and there's something about the really gloomy, and also cathartic, acceptance in the phrase "there will be tears" when its repeated by this giant wall of voices? It really gets me. This isn't my favorite Faux Paz cover, but it's a song I can't look away from.

14. Escape Room -- fromis_9

I'm a gg stan, so this was going to show up on here eventually. Next up, Chung Ha's "Roller Coaster" ?

15. Hold The Girl -- Rina Sawayama

Stole this rec from @nayeonline a while ago (thank you for sharing!!), and it really hit this month :) This song goes all out with the angst, and Rina Sawayama has more than enough vocal power to do it justice!

Pirate Radio* -- Jean Dawson (okay i'm actually not a huge fan of dawson's voice, but this instrumental is too wonderful to leave off the list. i watched & enjoyed school spirits on netflix this month, and this is by far my favorite from the soundtrack! string instruments make my heart go BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ and this song is just a delightful confection of them !!)

Vision -- G-IDLE (a sixth star added for that layering where someone's murmuring underneath the whispery vocals in the chorus??????? like it should NOT sound as good as it does but here we are ?????)

Prenderle Fuego a Todo -- Andrea Santiago (i want to start including albums on here, mostly to get myself to listen to more albums all the way through! i've been obsessed with a few songs from this album for years now, but i finally listened to the whole thing this month--and it's even more wonderful as a complete set. the CLOSING SONG ?? I CAN'T BELIEVE I'VE SPENT YEARS OF MY LIFE IGNORING IT. when i'm listening to andrea santiago's music, i see the world with completely new eyes, and this album captures that wanderlust, an emotion i've actually never felt without help from music, even in its slow moments.)

I meaaann this song addresses the struggles and challenges of striving for success… Sounds like Chunkz to meeee!!! Song literally tells a story ab a nobody that becomes a somebody by grinding non-stop to reach his goals. Cmon man like I’m so proud of Chunky like I’m so happy he acc hyped up now and lowk has been for a while. I luv him 🤭

Kenny - No Pain

Lowk Kenny vibes. Like when u listen to this song you wanna work work work. I mean all of CC’s songs are kinda like that but this one?! Sharky - Mrs

aaww our little bby, ofc he gets the sweetest song, and the harmony catchy assfff!! Sharky is a cutie patootie like I can j imagine him moving his hips to this song when the main melody comes on!! “I know why you're not in the mood, you ain't gotta say what's wrong” , ye maybe a little out of context ahah but still so Sharky. I’m not saying that he’d prioritize relationships…but he would girl…ahaha help. No but srsly I’m super sure w this one, this one 100% our man

AJ - Retail Therapy

“I wanna do retail therapy, been with the gang all week I need some female energy” lol both lines so AJ my op, like fr he do shop for nice clothes a lot and he need some female energy (me…jk…no) ok ok he j needs someone to chill w I feel like (me…). The song catchy assff. “God is my witness, get out my business” such an Aje thing to say, like tell me I’m wrong!? I’m not. He don’t like ppl gettin in his business ok? that’s j AJ in my brain. Nothing else to add, just an Aje song ☺️

Niko - Obsessed With You

heheheheh like cmon…another bbg like Sharky you know what I’m sayyiiinngg?? Sweetie he is and the song fits him just right!! Soooo many edits of Niko w this song it’s acc so cute. Like for me this is his song and his song only 🙄 Are the lyrics “I'm obsessed with you in a way I can't believe” yours to say or his to say (or mine)?? Doesn’t matter, both is better. Cause he would be obsessed w you (sad cause I’m thinking ab his gf but let’s pretend she dont exist for now) and he wouldn’t hide it…neither would I…
