is it weird that I don't get gender dysphoria... nor euphoria? like, I'm not excited when someone calls me by my current name, it just feels like they're doing the bare minimum, and that they're taking me away from my past (which is good dw). it feels like either: 1. I'm numb to the pain because personal reasons and i hate myself 2. I'm faking it 3. it's just that I'm whack and lethargic, deep down.

also kinda unrelated but related but like I'm not into trans spaces. i don't like being called trans slang, I don't feel like I'm "queer" at all, and I don't like reclaiming slurs. if i DID reclaim a slur it'd me because someone i love told me to. my feelings are best described like this:

obviously, to each their own. everyone has different gender experiences, theres nothing wrong with wanting to go to majority cis spaces. that itself can be characterized as a form of gender euphoria, methinks.

the problem may be that trans spaces focus on transness. now im not sure what gender identity you prefer; you dont have a pinned post, but imo theres nothing wrong with being trans and just not feeling trans at the same time, iygwim

trans spaces exist due to oppresion. some trans people might not feel "trans" in way. just some person who differs from the gender they were born as. despite that being what trans is, its totally respectable!

Fandom Lesbophobia

No but the way fandom treats lesbianism, whether canon lesbian characters or characters headcanoned as lesbians, or ships involving lesbians(whether canon or fanon) is fucking whack. 

Whenever a female character is canonically confirmed to be a lesbian, “fans” will always go the whole nine yards in trying to prove that the character is bi; they’ll always headcanon the character as bi and ship them with men. If you politely tell them that the character is a lesbian they’ll snap at you and call you biphobic or say there’s no proof of that or that “everyone can have their headcanons regardless” not when it’s actively erasing a canon sexuality being represented, ya dipshits. I can’t think of a single gay female character I’ve seen that hasn’t been called bi or even straight or had their sexuality dismissed by being shipped with men: Apple White, Tomoyo Daidouji, Robin Buckley, Amity Blight, Velma Dinkley, the list goes on and on. 

Even when the character isn’t canonically a lesbian but is headcanoned as such people seem super against it and will be super bothered by it for some reason. Like they’ll always ask you “why” you hc the character as a lesbian and say “but she could be bi!” And yeah, she could, but what’s so wrong with me seeing her as a lesbian? Why not just make your own post about the character being bi? And then they’ll go on to derail your post by talking about how much they ship the female character with a man. Why are you so offended at the possibility of a female character not being attracted to men? Why do all women have to be available to men, even in fiction? 

Imo people seem to hate lesbian headcanons the most, even compared to other headcanons. It’s as if a female character being unattracted to men completely intimidates them and/or is something they can’t comprehend, whether it’s canon or not. Just looking at the Encanto TikTok, when it comes to queer headcanons, fans on there seem to hate the lesbian Isabela one the most. And no, I’m not talking about Colombians who don’t want the message of the movie to be erased, I’m talking about people who simply don’t like the headcanon because they are homophobic/lesbophobic. Maybe it’s just me being an Isabela simp and looking at more content of Isabela and since I’m a lesbian the headcanon I tend to look at the most is Isabela being a lesbian as well(especially since I also have the headcanon myself), but I see it all the time, even more so than hatred for Mirabel being bi or Camilo being genderfluid even though the latter is possibly the most baseless. 

Like I am so sick of people getting mad at others for headcanoning Isabela as a lesbian and using Bubo as an excuse even though his character is a rough draft and not canon. And it’s funny as well because most people don’t even like Bubo. Bring him up to an Encanto fan and they’ll instantly say they dislike him. But suddenly you want him to be with Isabela because it’s still better than Isabela being a lesbian. I even saw someone’s account receive death threats, attacks, and hatred just because they headcanoned Isabela as a lesbian, and it culminated in them taking down all their Isabela lesbian content and uploading an apology video instead, and all the comments were saying “it’s okay I forgive you now that you understand” WHAT?! So you only feel bad that she received hate because she no longer has the headcanon? It’s fine for her to receive death threats as long as she does have it though because she deserves it for thinking a fictional fucking female character isn’t attracted to men. Fucking sickening. 

Don’t even get me started on how much more popular slash generally is compared to femslash. Because as we all know if a relationship doesn’t have men at its center then it’s not worth paying attention to and not to mention people will attack you for having the ship all the time as well. Even if it is canon don’t think that will stop fandom from tearing the ship apart and pairing one or both characters with boys. Alternatively very often slash pairers will only ship f/f ships to get them out of the way of their slash ship, and I’ve seen a lot of fics while looking for a femslash pair that I want that are tagged as such but only have that relationship in the background/as secondary. And the main and “foreground” ship is always an m/m ship every. single. time. This post goes into it in more detail so that I don’t have to, but the point is made that it’s so upsetting because this all directly stems from centering of men in society as well as fandom. idk it just frustrates me. And I wish this was acknowledged more. 

TLDR: I’m tired, please just respect lesbian characters more in fiction and let people have their lesbian headcanons and ships, that is all. Lesbians deserve better.

I'm going to write down all the headcanons I remember from when I watched Phoenix drop high (which was like 7-8 years ago.) I want to preface this with that I did not and still have not gotten past Diaries season one and this series is what brought back my maladaptive daydreaming which is why these headcanons are whack and why I almost became a super senior (But I didn't 🤩)

I was so against Aarmau at the time and so deluded into Larmau that I headcanoned Aaron and Aph as step siblings, which devolved into me making Jeffory and Zenix also their siblings via adoption because they were all my fav characters during PDH. I think this was before Aaron's dad even existed directly in the plot. But I vibe with most ships now besides a few.

Dante and Gene being two of Katelyn's like 8 brothers, so I guess I was thinking Eric/Maria (this was way before the Sylvanna/Eric came into mystreet I believe). Katelyn's mom just never existed in my delulu, just Maria.

Sasha and Travis related. Yes, I only do this based on hair color. I guess little me didn't understand that siblings can have different hair or something whilst my IRL brother and I have different hair, different hair type, different eyes, he has no freckles/I have freckles.

Honestly though, I think Travis would have benefitted from Sasha as an older sibling. He would definitely still be friends with Dante, but at least Travis would be less... Travis-y... I just really hate mystreet Travis after he got out of his awkward freshman phase and I don't like Dante a whole lot if I think about his canon personality. But, I will admit, I have not watched the series in it's entirety for a while, I didn't even finish the most recent season. Maybe I will go back to revise my dislike of Travis, or to rant about him even more.

Heavy Gene/Zenix shipper which occasionally is Gene/Zenix/Sasha. But in the very delulu part of my maladaptive daydreaming I shipped Dante/Sasha. I don't know how to explain why I thought those two would be a good pair, like both chill, both like Gene. What else?

I was and still am a heavy Jefflyn shipper, but what brought me to Jefflyn was not that Aph Laurence Katelyn Jeffory prop hunt minigame that I have watched a hundred times, it was Aaron/Nicole. I don't even know how I explain that. But there was an edit I found years ago of them, so I wasn't the only crack shipper I guess (I couldn't find it 🙁). I can't even remember Nicole besides her being mentioned in a paint minigame and that mystreet date episode. But I don't know, I like fiery personality + chill personality that would go ape shit for their close peoples.

I always like childhood friends trope when it's done well. Aarmau did it well imo, and if Katelyn didn't give the most bs reason for breaking up with an SS tier man they could have been perfect.

I despised Garmau so much that I never rewatched the kiss episode after I watched it the first time, but surprisingly enough, the first fanfic I ever read on wattpad was Travmau. Like I can't explain why I hated Garroth over that 😭, he is my now type (not his mystreet voice). I can't remember if I shipped anyone with him, Lucinda, Cadenza, or pink cat girl that I can't remember the name of and I refuse to use the obvious name. I feel like I would have put Vlad (or whatever Garroth's adopted brother's name is) with pink cat girl and Lucina with Zane and Cadenza with Garroth, to put myself in the delulu mindset again.

So, after like 70 hours I finished my 1st playthrough oh BG3 and I gotta say :

- Love the game and the characters they're all so very cool that rocked

- Fuck act 3 and fuck the ending, it felt wrong to me for reasons that are below the line

Still a good experience but all in all I think it mainly gave me an itch to play Planescape Torment again...

So in all the game I decided against using any tadpoles or probing people's mind because I decided my monk wasn't into this Illithid shit and seeing as I romanced Lae'zel I respected her knowledge about them and her advice, bring "don't do that shit". However, as I wanted to free Orpheus because I feel like it was unfair to keep him here... I was forced by the game to negate all that I had built up to! Since you need to force someone to become illithid or become one yourself. I'm not forcing Orpheus because what would be the point of freeing him then. I'm not forcing anybody from my crew to become an illithid since none of them wanted to use the tadpole before. So... I could only sacrifice myself. I found this vastly unsatisfiying as imo I was led to believe there would be consequences to using (or not) the tadpole stuff and 1/ there were none and 2/ I was forced to negate all that I did and become a flayer anyway. I don't understand what this achieves, narratively. Nobody really minds beyond some jokes or awkwardness. I have now lost my soul. In the last fight I still just whacked on the damn brain and almost never used my newfound powers because... I had never used them before. Didn't know what they did. Didn't feel like trying on the *last fight*.

Gameplay wise act 3 tired me out a lot too. It was way too long, I was overleveled all the way and at the end I was at max level with my best stuff just going through the motions. I could have just not done those side quests but I really can't see myself not doing all the character quests I don't want a bad end for any of them. And I hated a lot of the late game encounters, which I guess are there because of how dd5e works. Getting zerg rushed by dozens of enemies that take long to take their turns was really u fun, especially in the factory and in shar's temple. The courtyard fight too was unfun to me and felt like a slog. And like I said before giving me newfound powers I never used before juste before the last fight was meh. Just used a potion of resistance, dimension door'd to the brain and used the stones and voilà lol. A bit anticlimactic for a last fight.

Otherwise I feel like progression in the first 2 acts was very cool. Especially act 2 with the cursed lands : lots to do, but in an area where you are still discovering a lot as you go. The city of baldur's gate had too much in too little space at a point when I really just wanted to get to something else.

Anyway I'm still glad I played this game!! Just gonna wait till way later for another playthrough.

before we hit ch25, the last few lines of this one are pretty nutty in an emotional implications way.

if you successfully run through this stealth level, possessed!mikoto tries to trick you with the last door. I'm pointing this out to show the increasingly more blurry line of possession as these last few levels go on. corrin's starting to get the idea, thankfully.

when you add in all of the more autonomous(ish) possessed characters together (mikoto, takumi, gunter), you start to see common patterns with how anankos presses on their psychic wounds.

mikotos, as you could take a gander with the last post, craves more time with corrin. her mother's instinct gets warped in a way that anankos can bend in a way that (nearly) guarantees corrin's destruction.

i find it interesting that her psychic wound here mirrors her magical barrier with how she drains nohrian troops of their will to fight. 'surrender/stop resisting/in the name of (twisted) love'

(I can't talk much to takumi's possession/his psychic wounds as much other than a 'yeap looks like anankos really whacked hard on that competitive/insecurity nerve there. but it does look quite consistent with the other two.)

mikoto's boss fight is up.

.... the massive spoiler that (one of) mikoto's lovers was human!anankos (aka corrin's bio!dad) just hit me, actually.

this whole exchange is exceptionally twisted with that in mind.

corrin defeats her. before we hit her actual death scene, you get the items, if you had completed the stealth level successfully.

(gunter's line here is a throw-away in the great scheme of things, I'm pretty sure it's nintendo throwing one last hail mary of sorts to the denser players of 'hey remember this guy, he's about to be very important wink wonk')

(also, imo, it's not a coincidence he keeps randomly showing up whenever corrin's parents are involved.)

corrin's starting to get it.

mikoto's hoshidan children get a chance to huddle around and say their good-byes before she dissolves into the water bubbles that signifies complete "body is dead" anankos' possession. (water being the element he and the other vallites are heavily linked to).

speaking of, we get a revelation ba dum tishh here....

in terms of plot twists, this one's actually not that surprising. nintendo's kind of wearing a little thin of 'oops actually royal of x country' twists but this one makes more sense with how mysterious corrin's past is.

Oh no, Lotor… (alternately: Oh, no Lotor…)

I’m going through this process of post-Voltron-trauma mental healing (no, not for the past 4 years; I only watched it this year - 2022). Some people refuse to watch it again, because of the emotions some images might stir up. It’s weird, but for me, it’s kind of the opposite. Revisiting certain scenes makes me more immune to having that visceral reaction, and in return, I start noticing details I missed on the first pass. Especially Season 8. The one everybody hates watching again.

So, most likely by now everybody knows about this famous ending scene with Lotor standing next to the Old Paladins, all of them looking at us from the realm of afterlife.

And probably some of you have read certain metas about the obvious fact that Lotor has been inserted in this image, after the animation studio finished its production. The consensus is that this is the stock image of Lotor from the Voltron fandom wiki page. And, also, that his right foot has been moved a little bit to accommodate him in front of Zarkon. Also, that he does not have a proper shadow.

All of these are true imo, and I don’t know if anybody else has done it before, but here is my proof. I took the stock photo from the Wiki page and overlapped it with the image. Here we go (first image is 50% transparent, so you can see the original position of both feet):

For obvious reasons, they had to lower his right foot, so he doesn’t step on his daddy’s toes. A simple push with a Liquify tool. Which is a bit too obvious, because the foot appears a little crooked, the tip of the shoe is bent towards us and the perspective is screwed.

They made his left foot a bit smaller, to accommodate for perspective as well, but that is a crappy manipulation, because it doesn’t seem to be in sync with the perspective of the other shoes in the picture. Simply pushing the foot up with the liquify tool won’t solve the fact that the forefoot needs to be a bit wider when shown in perspective, to rest flat on the ground. Look at the other guys’ frontal view shoes for comparison.

And the one thing that scratches my retina (and it did to many others as well) is Lotor’s shadow. Like, seriously, everyone’s shadow projects from their heels. His seems to radiate from… um… the edge of his pinky toe? He kind of floats in a surreal space.

A detail that is quite hard to spot is the fact that inside the shadows there are darker shadows. Especially visible for Alfor. Zarkon has them too. The shadow of their legs is darker, on top of a lighter shadow of the body. Um… Lotor’s is… maybe non-existent? He only seems to cast a lighter shadow, from his pinky toe. Pffft.

But enough of this hair-splitting. Dang these conspiracies.

I’m moving to the next image, where I played with no Lotor in the picture. Oh, no Lotor!

— Without Lotor: just look at the new space created next to Zarkon. Doesn’t it look more balanced visually now? The whole pack of five is centered. Oh, what a joy.

It’s not like every scene in Voltron is always perfectly centered, but the static ones seem to be! Or they have a symmetry. If you don’t believe me, just watch randomly some episodes from the first few seasons (don’t trust anything in S7-8) and you’ll see my point. It’s common in animated series. Centered scened are visually pleasing.

And now to the more subjective discussion.

What business would Lotor have, to hang out among the Old Paladins? I get it, the one thing they all have in common in this so-called canon version is they are all dead.

And let’s not forget he actually never made peace with Zarkon, like Allura did when she traveled in Honerva’s mind. So now he’s just Zarkon’s peaceful companion, after he killed him?

And here is where my suspicion lies (albeit unproven), that what we see here is actually a scene that was supposed to happen a few episodes before, in S8E10, when Allura and the Paladins travel to Honerva’s mind and find the Old Paladins trapped in there.

Two things point me to believe this:

1) At the end of the episode, when all Paladins return to reality, Allura remains unconscious in her Lion, trapped in some sort of dream. They never show us what she was dreaming but I’m like 100 percent sure she was continuing her journey out of Honerva’s mind - because they punched out of there when Zarkon ordered the team of 10-Voltron Paladins to form sword and pierce the barrier of Honerva’s mind. So Allura is somewhere else… Where exactly? (Oh no, Lotor! Hello, anyone there??)

2) We were never shown a proper goodbye to the Old Paladins, when they left Honerva’s mind. Where the quiznack did they go? They helped the Paladins get out of there and they just poof! went into the void? Allura must have traveled with them somewhere else, meet *cough*Lotor, then wake up, angry as she looked in the canon part we were allowed to see. Maybe daddy got to meet one angry piece of son, they all solved their differences, Lotor tells Allura more details about his state in the Sincline, she now knows how to save him, and now it’s time to say goodbye to the Old Paladins... And that is where this Old-Paladins-in-the-blazing-lights image comes from. Not at the end, not with Lotor in it.

Wishful thinking? I think not.

Fell free to throw in your opinions. There are variations of this scenario of what happened with Allura in her dream, but they all lead to the same conclusion.

A very common argument I have come across from people who push the KL theory (and this theory mostly includes Dany sacrificing herself to save the world; some people generously include Jon with Dany and others throw in Tyrion so Sansa/Arya/Bran can "rebuild" Westeros) is that "GRRM doesn't write happy endings" and I think that's such a whack reason because quite frankly, there are very few people who would love for Dany to live and rule (which imo, is a natural conclusion to her arc) and only for them would this happy ending (Dany living) actually be a happy ending. The majority of this fandom doesn't mind her dying, whether it is as a hero or as a villain so for them any ending is a happy ending because in any case, their faves get to live and be considered heroes. I find this a very patronizing sort of explanation for why people push the KL theory and Dany sacrificing herself. This argument has been here in another form since GoT ended where memes of Ramsay's line were circulated to explain away the ending, and I don't need to say this, but it was really only Dany who was denied a happy/reasonably hopeful ending. People who say such stuff, just.....say.......you hate Dany.......and go. Don't be a hack.

You know what. I fucking hate Anakin apologia. Some of the most whack shit I see is about how he was completely under a spell when he commits genocide multiple times and it’s not really his fault. hahha what? Y’all serious?! Ok yikes uhmmm. He did bad shit. he’s an adult making his own choices. He, like Anakin, gets (undeserved imo) chances to turn back and stop being such a crappy person, but hoe no he keeps on going. Hi Scoups, just was curious of your thoughts on a theory I have. It seems to me that Daiji feels a bit out of focus and I don't get why he is so loyal to Fenix. Then it occurred to me that Hiromi was added in to the story. Since they are both Fenix soldier, what if some of Hiromi's story was originally Daiji's? I am thinking of the commander in particular. Hiromi was the worst until his peptalk and then his determination came through to achieve success in Fenix. That sounds like Daiji as well...

And hmmmmmm. Y'know I gotta say I've seen this theory or at least something very similar going around tumblr and I gotta say. I think that does a major disservice to the writers LOL!

Not to say that its impossible because -- heck yeah that's something that could have easily happened.

But since Im too deep into the Revice insanity I kinda get these authors on a spiritual level lol. And with all my nonsense research, analysis, and essays I can say without a doubt in my mind that even though Hiromi was a last-minute ad-in I don't think his story was originally something for Daiji.

(Or if it was -- I don't think them taking it and giving it to Hiromi weakens Daiji's own narrative arc and plot importance)

I know I mentioned this at some point but Daiji's loyalty to Fenix stems almost entirely from his own view of himself and his self-worth.

Hmmm. I'd say Daiji is to Fenix what Ikki is to Vice.

(LMAO) So what the heck do I mean when I say this?

Well Daiji (IMO) has 2 major arcs (that I'm editing an essay about as we speak) which impact his arc narratively. The first was getting rid of his debilitating self-hate -- which he did through the battle in episode 26.

But the reason why Daiji's story feels so whack is because he still hasn't allowed himself to *BE* a main character. Which is something that'll only happen when Daiji learns to accept himself. Like he got rid of his self-hate but he has still tried to keep himself within a damaging binary.

"Good versus Evil."

Once he accepts Kagerou -- or at least the darker parts of his character -- he'll finally be able to step into the role of an MC instead of playing the damsel in distress (hahahaha).

Fenix wise --

Daiji joined Fenix because he wanted to make a name for himself, and show his family (re: Ikki) that he can be responsible and reliable too. So badly Daiji wants to be seen as someone with value. Someone whose capable.

So he tied his self-esteem to Fenix. To this concept that Fenix is essentially important to his person and his worth, and that without it his value will fall back to ground zero.

Since he's now trying to grow as a person, he's not trying to actively blame himself--- but he still wants to prove his value by "purifying" Fenix.

Because he sees Fenix as an extension of himself.

So, similar to how Daiji saw the darker sides of himself as inherently bad and evil -- which led to a lack of trust in himself and his decisions / autonomy; the worse parts of Fenix are something he sees in a similar fashion.

"Fenix is bad, it needs to be cleaned of its filth. Only then does it have value. Only then can it do things and help others."

The problem in -- Daiji's literally projecting his own false beliefs onto Fenix. Since he believes he 'killed' Kagerou, he thinks he needs to do the same thing to Fenix.

That he needs to "purify" it. And then it can be good and have value.

(And then he can be good. he can have value. The horrors committed by Fenix will be atoned. It won't be his fault.)

But as the nurse lady said in episode 30 -- "Justice" is a word you gotta be careful with because life isn't black and white.

(7/12) My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!: GAY AF BUT JUST UNDER THE RADAR ENOUGH TO SLIDE BY THE CENSORS?????? JESUS. A dumbass dense as a brick mf isekais herself into being the villain character in an otome (dating sim) game where the villain always dies/is exiled. To counter that, she changes EVERYTHING. And it's FANTASTIC. I watched the dub, which has its moments of meh, but otherwise suits it great. The story made me laugh and gasp and kept being fresh and surprising and of course it's based off a Light Novel like so many good new isekais are nowadays. Reverse Harem style but some of the "harem" characters are GIRLS. Yeah, and she even gets CONFESSED TO AND KABEDONED (wall slammed) BY OTHER GIRLS. Yeah. I love this show. 10/10, enjoy yourselves.

(7/13) If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord: Add this to the list of "little girl child is adopted by an older male figure into a healthy father-daughter bonding experience and is honestly really cute and sweet but always has a tragic backstory" list! Little demon girl is found in the woods by an adventurer and of course he takes her in after some back and forth. He's 100% Maes Hughes here with 1000% less death! It's so cute! It gets kinda weird towards the end tho, very "I'm gonna marry the man who took me in and raised me" vibes which is, imo, very bad. I HOPE it doesn't fall into that trap but, c'est la vie. Overall, kinda boring, but the dub let me finish making a crochet tank top I've been ignoring so it gets a score boost. 8.5/10.

(7/15) That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Dub): Heads up, the Sub is on the Crunchyroll but the Dub is on Funimation but I have both so I get to watch both! Season 2 (part 2) is just now being released due to Covid so I'm happy to watch the series again. I'm actually really pleased by the Dub, the Sub was so good I thought it wouldn't compare but nope! Still good! What got me into the Isekai genre tbh. 10/10 I bought the Light Novels lmao save me

(7/17) Ace Attorney: Is Miles Edgeworth Does Gay? I own the anniversary edition of the games and haven't played more than a few hours so I binged the anime and now I'm 10 levels of Miles/Phoenix hell. Gay as shit. Funny, ngl, but I'm now obsessed with the fact that Japan's court system is corrupt as hell, I say OBJECTION in my daily life, and I found out the San Francisco Newspaper agrees with me. Life is wild sometimes. 8.5/10

(7/18) Beastars (S2): I watched the first season years ago ironically and then ended up really liking it. Story of my life. S2 came out the day of and I binged it with my younger bro and loved it AGAIN. Like... dude. 9/10 because honestly? Im gonna be recovering from the consensual leg mauling. CONSENSUAL. MAULING.

(7/26) Saga of Tanya the Evil: Set in a fantasy WWI, this Isekai features a capitalist who spoke to god and said "I'm an atheist" to which god said "Fuck you in particular". You love to hate Tanya and at some point it kinda clicks that although this character IS a sadist, mean, in no way nice and kinda evil, you start seeing the moments where they're very human start click into place. It's fascinating seeing this as almost a character study of Lawful Evil characters, but I think of this more as a palate cleanser for more Good Guys later in your media consumption. Just never read the comments that are with the series because you will regret it. 9/10.

(7/27) The Rising of the Shield Hero: I'm gonna be real if you're the type to get hung up on if things are too problematic to enjoy you'll probably not enjoy this. I'm not knocking people for doing so, just that the MC here LITERALLY has two slaves, he bought from a slaver, whom is not shown as an evil character in the series. And for some godforsaken reason the one time the slaves are released is framed as a bad thing????? I can't get over this tbh. I hate to admit this is one of the most fascinating and interesting and honestly fresh feeling isekai/anime I've seen in a hot minute. But it's got SLAVERY. It's whack. I can't wait for season 2. 9/10.

I can understand that Russ would be angry with Henrik, but I really don’t see how it’d lead to him immediately seemingly *hating* the man who he has already developed feelings for and who just delivered and saved the life of his daughter’s baby. The only reason Russ got angry seemed to be because the writers couldn’t stand to have Henruss be together quite yet - but there are only five eps left so they’re clearly not planning on spending much time with them together, and that means as you said, all the henrik character history that deserves reference and discussion probably won’t happen. It’s such a disservice to the character and all the history of holby :( (and also ironic when you consider how episodes like tonight’s are clearly meant to reference holby history to viewers, but only in a ‘remember this plot device’ kinda way. maybe stop copying eps and pretending the last eps they copy didn’t happen and start actually referencing past events at holby relevant to the plot??)

Because, as I said, it wasn't my conclusion, just something another anon said to me that I found depressingly true.

The argument was so forced and SO cringeily written. What is the point in having Henrik and Russ break up for 5 seconds? Then inevitably reconcile for next week, then break up for 5 seconds again when Henrik keeps Billie's second secret (because apparently one wasn't bad enough). I thought Holby ending meant they were going to rush this storyline, but clearly I was wrong. They rushed Henrik out the closet and now they're dragging everything else on.

It's not just that all Henrik's history that needs addressing probably won't happen. He doesn't have to have those conversations with Russ, we can imagine him having them later on. He could just as easily have those conversations with Jac, or Dom. Even Sacha. Problem is, they're taking up too much screentime with Billie's pregnancy nonsense to actually bother letting Henrik talk about all the things he needs to talk about.

And I really, really don't understand why they're doing a storyline about Henrik's bisexuality, something that was established with Gaskell, only to then act as if Gaskell didn't exist or as if Henrik being about to start a relationship with him and come out for him only to be immediately betrayed by him wasn't traumatic or didn't affect Henrik's relationship with his sexuality.

(Speaking of which can you PLEASE just say the word "bisexual" Holby, it's not gonna kill you.)

I disagree that last night was meant to reference Holby history to the viewers at all though. If anything you get the impression they've been hoping people don't notice them repeating the same stories over and over. It was clearly meant to remind us of Group Animal (one of the promo people even tweeted that the episode had "Group Animal vibes", just to really whack us over the head with it... she said the same thing about the Cameron comeback eps) but Group Animal is the only part of its own history Holby ever acknowledges these days so that's nothing new. (Cameron is too recent to be called history.) They ignore everything else. Especially Gaskell. It's like they have a fucking rule against mentioning him. 🎵 We don't talk about Gaskell, no, no, no... 🎶

BBC Merlin 3x01 The Tears of Uther Pendragon Part 1

I know that in wars and fights, realistically, people die. A lot. But given how often we see complete annihilation of Camelot soldiers/knights, I wonder how they are one of the strongest countries? Like, the city is not that big. They can’t possibly have that many people to serve as soldiers/knights. And if all these disasters and expeditions wipe out tens or even hundreds of men every few months, how the heck do they still function?

I find it sad that Uther truly has no idea how much Morgana hates him. I think he does care about her, but only an idealized version of her, the one who is still a young daughter. I think I mentioned before that he is still stuck in the “parent-child” mindset? Like, his arguments with Morgana are very serious, and they disagree on fundamental ideologies. Morgana is an adult woman who really hates him—he needs to fight her, not discipline her--yet he doesn’t realize that at all and downplays all of it as teenage rebellion so as to maintain his illusion of a loving family.

…And nobody found that odd? “oh, my helmet flew off halfway through the fight. I found it stuck on someone’s sword, along with a frying pan.” “cool.”

I still can’t believe how easy it is for Morgana to sneak out with a horse. Aren’t cities like this supposed to have guards at the entrances, to check who comes in and out? Not to mention Morgana is the princess who has just been found after being gone for a whole year. Where are the security measures?? I find it hard to believe Uther, being as paranoid as he is, doesn’t station guards outside Morgana’s room.

Also, Morgana’s cloak is super cool and I want one, but wearing a gown so long into a forest is just…ugh, can you imagine all the mud and grass and twigs stuck to the hem?

Her confidence is reasonable, given that Merlin is tightly bound and the scorpions are deadly, but honestly, is it so hard to check whether he really died? (I’m not saying I want Merlin to die ofc I just hate it when villains conveniently decide to do unnecessarily convoluted things just for the sake of Plot).

Okay confession time: I’m not sure if I could even finish the commentary for this season. For some reason rewatching Merlin makes me kind of... sad? imo S3 is the last I can stomach because there is simply too much suffering in S4 and S5 for me to even consider rewatching at the moment, but even the most light-hearted S3 episodes have this depressing undertones to them. Is it just me?

I’m talking waiting on him hand and foot, giving him whatever he wanted, essentially worshiping him and using persuasive mind control magic to convince him that he’s the best thing to happen since sliced bread

And it worked

Can you tell exactly how fucked up this kid is right now

Keep in mind here that I’m not saying his screwed up personality isn’t the result of some seriously bad mojo

Magi are supposed to be what tips the scales of fate in this setting which, generally, means for the betterment of the world and this whack ass cult pointedly steered him down a path he otherwise would not have gone

But it’s this tragic past of his that really brings the whole package together

He could be a mean pretty boy for no other reason than because he wants to and I’d still drop into a split on his cock

It’s just that knowing what made him the way he is gives us the perfect amount of insight to truly feel sympathetic despite all the bad shit he has done and will continue to do

I was looking through my copy of the book yesterday to answer this ask but then I figured, y’know what? Canon can suck it. I tend to beat myself up over accurate characterisation for Richie and Eddie, but they’re main characters, Maggie and Went are not, so the details are inconsequential. Their ages in the Dilfworth fic mean that they’d have a pretty different life experience from their book versions, what with growing up in the 60s/70s, but imo all that matters is that they love Richie and are good parents. Canon is ours now!!!

- my no.1 headcanon rn is that Maggie sings like an angel, and sings all the time. In the car, in the shower, gardening, housework, cooking. She and Went have a pretty good record collection, but if Went is listening to something and hears Maggie singing to herself in another room of the house he shuts that shit off quick so he can hear her.

- I wrote in ithots that Richie busts out into song at the drop of a hat, right? well, where Richie gets encouragement with his Voices through Went participating, Richie gets his incessant singing from Maggie, because he grew up in a household where that was welcomed.

- Maggie doesn’t even notice she’s doing it until Richie joins in, or she turns around and sees Went gazing at her all dopey, and she gets self-conscious

- until Went is like “I don’t know why. You know I think you’re a songbird” and then grins and calls her Magpie. She says stop. He says, Maggie-pie? She throws a dishcloth at him but secretly loves it because she fell in love with how frank and practical he is most of the time, but also how silly he is only when it comes to her and Richie.

- he only calls her that when they’ve had one too many anyway, otherwise it’s all sweetheart, honey, darling, Mags. Marguerite, in Richie’s stupid French Waiter Voice. “Yes ma’am” for when he’s rearranging her guts. Maggie’s the one to call him “my love” the first time, but she said it kinda exaggerated and jokey, and Maggie just doesn’t joke the way Went and Richie do so Richie noticed the way his dad just cracked tf up and was like wow, Mom must be really, really funny

- so y’know how Richie calls Eddie “my love” in the book, and is generally quite physically affectionate? He picks all that up from his parents, watching their example. Wants to make Eddie laugh like that

- for some reason I always imagine she speaks like, French or Italian fluently. I’m stealing @honeyreynolds hc that her maiden name is Avery for Tex Avery, but maybe her own mother was European. She tries to speak French with Richie as a baby/toddler so that he’ll be bilingual, and she’s so proud/frustrated because he’s clearly smart and has a knack for linguistic imitation, but his attention span is just. Non existent

- still makes lil kid Richie giggle by doing exaggerated Italian and making him guess what she’s saying

- I think she’s pretty elegant and reserved and almost shy on the surface with a rly wry sense of humour, so people tend to think she’s snooty, but she’s just... so concerned with keeping the peace and not saying anything bad about someone. Tries to see the best in people. This can lead to a lot of embarrassment when Went is so upfront and medical-frank about stuff or if Richie’s being a dumbass in public, but really she just envies their typically masculine lack of inhibition

- this is because she’s got this killer wicked streak. Maggie’s got a hidden well of scathing diatribes and Went knows it because

- they met on a plane in 1971 when Maggie was flying back to college for her final semester of senior year, and the man in the seat next to her started having an attack of some kind. The stewardesses appeal desperately for any doctors on board, nobody answers. Anyone at all? We’ll have to land the plane! Maggie’s trying to slowly shift away from this man and his spasms without seeming rude when she hears a deep sigh in the seat behind her and someone saying “I’m ethically bound to admit I have a licence in dentistry,” in a voice like he’s in on some joke nobody else knows.

- this guy unfolds the longest legs she’s ever seen and comes to squat right next to her and her apparently dying seat partner, she notices he’s nice looking and keeps glancing at her, there’s banter. Eventually he shrugs and is like “imo this man has a bad case of wind.” And Maggie just TEARS Went a new one like oh nice diagnosis DOCTOR DENTIST where’s your seatside manner?!?! what kind of name is WENTWORTH anyway! and Went’s like 👀😳😍 and then the dying man lets out a giant fart and Maggie recoils, all her pretty poise and indignation turning to base disgust and Went bursts out laughing and offers her the seat next to him

- turns out his first residency is in the next town from Maggie’s college. She’s only dated preppy meatheads before who only ever tried to flatter her and stopped listening when she talked about her music theory degree or the books she likes. But Went always grins and side-eyes her and cranks the volume whenever Maggie May comes on the hits station, because then she’ll whack him with a book. She’s so SWEET he loves goading her into releasing some more of that plane rage, like one day she’s prowling on the edge of a rant about her TA and trying to be reasonable. Went’s like, do it. You’ll feel better. So she fuckin rants her head off for ten minutes until her hair’s all dark and wild like an Arthurian queen and she looks over at Went reclining all impressed on her dorm bed and he’s like. - so yeah they’re both like, quietly distinguished and outwardly calm model citizens of Derry but in private Went is the fuckin roastmaster and is Maggie’s outlet for frustration whenever housewife suburbia gets too much

Is delighted when Eddie very politely and very intensely asks for her help making Richie a birthday cake. She sees how different they are together, and remembers Richie coming home at 5 years old declaring he was gonna marry Eddie Kaspbrak when he grows up, and she thinks... well, if I must have a son-in-law, I would love this one as much as I love my son.
