the bar for "revolutionary" webhorror is so low. what happened

#god lord im so sick of itttttttt ToT #if you dont know analogue horror is on is deathbed and now ppl are onto ''digital horror''#which is the same thing except using digital mediums instead of analogue (like the internet instead of vhs)#and i do mean the same thing lol nothing has changed #not the conventions of storytelling not the limitations of the medium not the types of scares it presents #the only thing that has changed is the aesthetic. and that is unbelievably sad #if youre going to do a horror series based in the internet then why not.... actually use the medium of the internet for horror #theres so many scary things about the internet (esp early internet!!!!!) and yet no one is using that for their series #just the same old ''missing children's spirit communicating through tape oops i mean the website :)'' like cmon man.... :(#why not use things like viruses or the sudden connection to any and everyone through the internet or early hoaxes/creepy ads #lack of regulation on the early internet or the isolating/uncanny aesthetics of old hardware (kid me was so scared of computers lol)#or literally anything else that is DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE MEDIUM YOUR SERIES IS BASED ON #does anyone else on earth care about this or am i just picky??? hello???#i just want smth that leaves a genuine impact. i just want a series that feels like smth thats never been done before #i just want webhorror that knows what it wants to be and fits neatly into the confines of its medium #petscop felt like a real videogame. it felt like smth i could see in an ''obscure ps1 games youve never heard about!!'' video #it had a will they wont they about whether or not the game was actually talking to paul (through ghosts or other users etc)#but it was never in your face and it was left just vague enough that instead of breaking immersion it sucked you in even more #paul felt like a real person playing a real game and experiencing genuine fear and obsession alongside the audience #there was never a point where the screen started turning red and pauls voice became distorted and ''scary'' while creepy imagery popped up #bc petscop works entirely within the limitations of a man playing a videogame. no more no less #thats the kind of dedication to the medium that i want!!!!!!#i only critique webhorror so much bc its my favourite type of horror and i want it to improve

I'm gonna be changing up one of my sideblogs!! Thinking of giving it a url change, theme update, and content overhaul, so I will wait until that's sorted out before giving y'all details over here!! With the revamp, I'm going to be moving my "#dishes" tag over to this blog, so there will be dish spam for a little bit!! I will try to balance it out between reblogs and queued posts, but it's going to be pretty hefty, so this is your warning! I will also try to go through old posts on this blog and update their tags, but not promises on that!!

Also, while I'm writing out an update, I have set the queue on this blog back to 15 posts per day! I know y'all don't mind when I have to make adjustments like that, but I like keeping you updated on how things are running. I don't think I will ever hit my 50 Posts Per Day + Organic Reblogs glory that I had in highschool, which is probably for the best.

#rainbow things #and I don't mean the websites as a concept #i mean the Aesthetics (TM) that came from them that gentrified healthy eating #to picture perfect and home made milkshakes and a rainbow bowl of fruits and veggies #and people be like can't eat healthy cause poor and broke #despite the fact that before those Aesthetics (TM) became common place on the internet #when you were poor you didn't really have mcdonalds money #and if you were hungry you ate some ramen or made a meal from the mix mash of stuff in the fridge #like there would be times where all we had was 5 bucks and bought packs of ramen #to try to save money and my uncles taught me how to put differnt stuff from the pantry in it #or cooking lunch meat for a sandwich so it wasn't that bad #and like basically the idea of ''poor food'' outside of mcdonalds is gone #and thats about the best way i can explain how Aesthetics (TM) gentrified being poor

I so, so desperately want to move into a big beautiful Victorian house with a handful of friends. I'm honestly having a bit of a depression about the fact that it feels like a fucking pipe dream because 1) my circle of friends is very small these days, & 2) amatanormativity means everyone else is planning their future around a romantic partner, while I'm stuck trying to forge a future alone.

#i want the stability and the ownership and tbh the aesthetic beauty of a house of my own #but fuck if i can afford anything around here with just 1 person's salary #and i know from past experience that living alone is a depression trigger for me #and even though everyone loves to talk about how awesome it would be to live in a big house with all their friends #it really truly feels like literally none of them actually mean it #cause at the end of the day they inevitably seek out long-term romantic partners and plan their futures as a couple #and I'm just here on my own #desperately wanting that same stability and companionship #but kept on the outskirts because our whole fucking society is built around nuclear families and even people who recognize that's a problem #still use it as the default framework for their own lives #sarah talks at the internet #tag rant #i had to drive through the rich part of town to get to the bookstore today #seeing all those GORGEOUS Victorians and knowing that i can't realistically even DAYDREAM about some day having one has put me in a mood
