Chapter 1
In a dimly lit corridor þat seemed to continue on to þe point of infinity, red lights lined þe corridor providing a faint glimpse of þe surrounding walls and launch track. A countdown timer had appeared on his head-up display showing a countdown till launch start, not þat he needed it. 2m 30s till launch, 30s from here to þe end of þe launch tube.
3m till þe distress signal.
Þe tunnel suddenly had an end in sight with blues, red and gold flashing up þe tunnel, screeching towards þe pilot.
1m till launch.
Þe lights showed him how close he was to þe battle. He did a quick systems check and a test of þe engines. þis time would be different.
20s till launch.
It had to be different. Once launch was established, he would have to make it to þe battle area wið in 30s.
5.
Þe pilot's adrenaline started to spike. þis was it, þe start of combat. A calm before a storm whirled in chaos. He had run þis simulation far too many times before.
L A U N C H
Þe pilot slammed þe accelerator forward causing þe entire ship to rock violently and pull forwards forcing him into his chair. Þe sled þat sat underneað his ship shot forwards, grabbing his ship and increasing its speed 3 fold, propelling him towards þe exit. Þe red glow from þe small tunnel lights seemed to increase in intensity and flickered on and off, faster and faster until þey reached an equal point, lighting þe pilot's cabin up wið a red glow.
5s was all it took to clear þe launch tube, he would have to keep þe accelerator pushed to maximum and redirect þe sheild power to his þrusters. He knew þat if he let off for even a second he wouldn't make it. Þe last time he tried he got close and tried to fire off several stinger missiles but þey weren't fast enough and Damien was run through. Some of þe worst enemies for a pilot to face were spear drones. Incredible long range fighters using a single charged shot weapon. Þey could charge you down and with terrifying speeds, pierce straight þrough you wið þeir hard light shields. One would have to know where þey were coming from in order to focus all shield energy in þat one point to have any hope of surviving.
Þis time felt different, þis time he could do it. All he had to do was get to him fast enough and he could be þe shield. He had to know it was possible. Þe pilot switched to L A N C E M O D E. His ship's wings flew forwards, slamming into þe sides of his ship. Hard light shields shifted towards þe front of þe ship forming into a lethal point þat could pierce þrough even þe toughest of cruisers. By removing all shields from þe rear of þe ship and pushing þat energy into þe ship's þrusters, he gained a tremendous boost in speed at þe loss of defence and maneuverability.
Þe difficulty came in at 2m when Damian took it upon himself to move þe battle furðer away from þe civilian vessel he was protecting. He had figured þat he could still take þem all and þat þe ship heading towards him was there to back up þe civilian and merely to rescue him. A well placed shot from one of þe drones knocked out all of his coms and had left him in þe dark.
Þe pilot knew what was coming and pushed against þe already locked out accelerator, muttering under his breað, it was now or never. He flicked a small red cover switch on his right hand side and engaged L A N C E M O D E U L T I M A.
He was slammed into his seat and felt a sharp pain burst þrough þe nape of his neck as his neural link connected him to his ship. Now þe real flying could begin.
Þe neural link allowed for humanity to better interact wið machines. Raðer þan leaving it to AI to perform perfectly calculated actions, þey gave humans þe ability to perform perfectly uncalculated actions. þe human instinct and spirit turned out far superior to þæt which calculates. Making þe machines an extension of oneself was not an easy task. Most pilots pass out wiðin þe first few seconds of þis mergance and even after five years of academy training, þe best can only hold it together for 30 seconds. Þe toll it takes on þe human body, some have argued, is why AI should take over þis roll but time and time again þe chaos of man's actions proves unsurpassable.
Þe pilot would feel everyðing at a higher level. A single twitch or misðought could þrow him off. He needed speed and so he removed þe fuel injector limiters and redirected more power to þe engines and þe lance's shield. One of þe drones had got in þe way and was immediately shattered by þe ship's hardlight lance. þis meant he was close now. Þe ultima mode was wearing on him and he could feel his consciousness fading.
Þere it was, þe civilian vessel was in sight and so was Damian's ship. He did it þis time, he really did it he knew it was possible to have got here in time. þe pilot released ultima mode and þe ship dropped out of its high speed and engaged its reverse stabilising þrust, helping to bring its velocity down. þe wings which had been spun to þe front had slammed back to þeir combat position and its shields had returned to a normal state. þere was a wave of relief þæt washed over his body. He felt like he could æþm again. He set his eyes on drones þæt were still about ready to engage þem. Even þough he felt exhausted, þe ultima mode really drained him but he had no time to sit about and recover, þere was still one more þing to happen. It was still coming. He started to bring þe ship around to target one of þe drones when it started. It had arrived.
He checked þe mission clock and realised þæt he was out of time. þis caused þe panic to set in, he was out of time again. He wasn't fast enough again. No matter how many times he repeated this mission, he could never be fast enough. After all, he wasn't fast enough in real life when þe sim was first recorded.
Þe niose was inhuman and unanamalistic. It was þe scratching of metal and hate, þe screaching of gears and abandonment, þe wailing of old machinery and loss. It was þe end of everything þæt got in its way. It could devour whole fleets like a snack, planets like a meal fed to a starving dog and moons like dessert to a pompous king. It was glutinous, it was unbridled indignation, it was nightmare incarnate.
It was simply titled Jörmungandr, þe World Eater.

So! Yuukaku-hen started on a serious note following the Mugen Ressha fallout, especially a scene that shows more of Akaza's position in relation to Muzan, and the season ends with this framing device that makes us concerned for Akaza, as we remember how the first season ended! But also, the first season was a collection of short arcs and concluded Tanjiro's "Unwavering Resolve" arc with Functional Recovery training. A chance to relax and enjoy the interactions between Corp members, learn more about them before sending Tanjiro back on his way.
So! So-o-o-o, I keep wondering, where are they going to fit Pillar Training? 'Cause like, if the last season starts with Pillar Training, that is gonna be lo-o-o-o-n-g, and I have wondered if they were going to release a second movie and try to repeat the success of Mugen Ressha (which would be.......... wow), that perhaps the Sunrise Countdown could be released theatrically. But I also say this just because I want this fight getting cinematic treatment because that would be e-p-i-c. The Swordsmith Village Arc is going to have one of the silliest of starts, will the start of the (eventual?) Infinity Fortress arc have a beginning just as wholesome with Pillar Training, to make us fall more in love with characters right before they are made to suffer (and suffer and suffer and suffer)? This is kinda of the route I expect, because then it still concludes with an ominous note about Muzan in how he reacts to Nezuko. Orrrrrrrrrr, might the Swordsmith Arc run a bit longer and take on a happy fluffy recovery period with Pillar Training like the first season did with Functional Recovery Training?
In which case... it might end with a bang.

Watching Snyder League
-Diana literally vaporizes a guy armed with nothing but an assault rifle.
-Also, these have gotta be like the dumbest terrorists. Their plan:
A. Send multiple armed gunmen to take hostages.
B. Stall for time
C. Set off a suitcase bomb on a one minute countdown (why not just set it off immediately? It's In The Script)
You have a suitcase bomb--just park a car somewhere, set the timer, leave it in the trunk, and walk away. You can kill as many people as you want without losing any of your own guys.
-Superman's scream sends out five separate shockwaves. Which makes me think the guy's milking it, personally.
- I'm amused that both SOP for the Amazons is having, like, fifty people standing around guarding the Mother Box. AND that they don't ramp up security after it wakes up.
- And there's this system of burying the Mother Box.  Which 1. seems like the only way to get there in the first place is to teleport in. What good is this system against a teleporter?
2. It takes six guards to suicide themselves by knocking down pillars, which seems like--in five thousand years, you couldn't come up with something where you just pull a level from twenty feet away?
This is the problem with the Amazons. They're all women, so none of them go into STEM fields.
- It's also real weird that this Bruce Wayne doesn't even try to hide that he's Batman. He just walks right up to Aquaman and goes "hey, Bruce Wayne, I'm also Batman." And remember, he's getting the Justice League together entirely based on a hunch. At least in Josstice League, there were Parademons all up in Gotham.
- And should I even bother to ask why Darkseid's people can't just bring three new Mother Boxes to Earth? Are those the only three? If so, you'd think they'd try to get them back sooner. Like, A LOT sooner.
- Okay, this was supposed to come out one year before Infinity War, but still, it was pretty obvious what Marvel was doing with Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. They had to know they were inviting comparisons.
-I love the implication, tho, that Darkseid just lost track of the Mother Boxes and just... no one realized they were back on Earth. And they have Parademons that can specifically sniff out the Mother Boxes.
-And if Superman dying was such a momentous occasion that it woke up a Mother Box, why not the Old Gods dying? Why not Ares dying? Wouldn't that have left Earth just as undefended?
-I have no idea why any of this is happening a couple years after Superman debuted and then died and not in, like, 1446.
-Are the Mother Boxes like finicky computers? Do you need to turn them off and on again? When Superman showed up, did they shut down for real, and then he died, so they came back on for real? Is it like a Windows 95 thing, where you can't JUST turn the computer off, you have to go to the start menu and press Shutdown and then wait for it to close up shop?
-It’s so weird that this is supposed to be a Dark, Mature Adaptation For Adults! And it doesn’t have the same basic logic you’d get from an episode of Power Rangers.
-So. Much. Daddy issues.
-Please stop letting Ezra Miller improv.
-They cast like the gayest man in America to play the one guy with a love interest.
-Diana: "I lost someone I loved once." Well, twice, but who's counting?
-All those reshoots and they couldn't get Amber Heard to knock off the British accent?
-Why is Desaad, of all people, Darkseid’s dragon? Is it just because they were rifling through all the Fourth World saga to find the few guys with scary names instead of Granny Goodness or Virman Vundabar?
- And they really play up Darkseid appearing to Steppenwolf, but we've not only already seen him in the big flashback, we saw him get his ass kicked by Zeus of all people.
- And the whole thing where Steppenwolf is part of Darkseid's 'family' really isn't helping the Thanos-Nebula-Gamora comparison.
-It's weird to introduce Darkseid as the guy who was already beaten once. Wouldn't it make more sense that Steppenwulf was the guy who lost, and that allowed Darkseid to take over, and now he's trying to redeem himself for his defeat? Or that Darkseid was never defeated at all, but someone stole the Anti-Life Equation from him and hid it on Earth? Something. Instead, it’s literally just randomly burnt into the crust of the Earth, Darkseid discovers it, then forgets all about it for reasons the movie doesn’t get into despite being four damn hours long.
-It’s only the central plot, whatever, forget about it.
- Pretty sure Kal eye-lasered a couple Army guys to death after he was resurrected, not that he ever gives a shit.
-Third big reveal of Darkseid. Come on, you've shown him three times now. We've heard him talk.
-And this does the same thing as Josstice League with Superman being more powerful than the rest of the JLA put together. Here, he even no-sells Steppenwolf's axe. He just lets it hit him and it doesn’t do shit. So Doomsday could kill him, but Steppenwolf can't even scratch him. And yet Wonder Woman seems pretty evenly matched with both, if not outclassed by Steppenwolf.
-Barry Allen spends the whole climax running in a circle. And he fails at it! Dude's really retarded when he doesn't have Team STAR Labs cheering him on.
-He also casually travels back in time to undo his side getting a Game Over, which makes you wonder how any conflict in this universe can ever have any stakes. Say what you will about Endgame, but at least they explain why time travel can’t solve every problem they ever have.
-Hell, the Mother Boxes can bring people back to life. The example used is literally “it can turn smoke back into a house.” Why not bring Joe Morton back to life? He did a good job in T2, c’mon.
-Speaking of, according to TV Tropes, Ray Fisher got to come up with his own backstory for Cyborg (”I don't praise Chris Terrio and Zack Snyder for simply putting me in Justice League. I praise them for EMPOWERING me (a black man with no film credits to his name) with a seat at the creative table and input on the framing of the Stones before there was even a script!”), which makes it kinda hilarious that this movie’s characterization of Cyborg is that he’s a genius sports hero who also loves helping out the underprivileged.
-AND his big conflict with his dad is that Silas Stone was never there for him, as literally represented by there being an empty seat next to his mom at Vic’s big sportsball game. So apparently the black experience is indistinguishable from Austin Powers In Goldmember. Who knew?
-What else? It's weird that the narrative tries to put some importance in Martha Kent, but then in her big scene with Lois, she's really Martian Manhunter (not kidding) and when Superman is resurrected, he hears encouraging words ONLY from Jor-El and Jonathan. All she really contributes to the story is hugging Superman after he comes back.
-Also, Batman spends a lot of time in the climax shooting people with a rifle. They're bug people and it's, like, a Halo rifle, but still. You can tell Snyder's just chomping at the bit to have Batman carry around a Colt Commando.
-They give no shits about secret identities in this, so why do they still bother with putting a shitty distortion effect on Batfleck's voice? He has a pretty good Batman voice outside the suit, but once he puts it on, he starts sounding like he's giving a blowjob to Daft Punk.
-One of the movie’s, like, four cliffhangers is Lex Luthor telling Deathstroke about Batman’s secret identity, because Deathstroke has a private vendetta against Batman and is out to get him. Of all the Bat rogues who are solely motivated by taking out Batman--why choose Deathstroke, the guy that’s just a mercenary for hire, to characterize as simply hating Batman? (They also imply Batman took out Deathstroke’s eye and THAT’S the big feud between him and--guys. C’mon. This was really supposed to be a whole movie of Deathstroke getting revenge for his eye?)
- The movie ends with them making Wayne Manor the JLA headquarters--God, just tell me if secret identities matter or not.
-Did we really need two ‘beyond the impossible’ scenes back to back, one for Cyborg and one for the Flash?
-Oh, it’s not Arkham Asylum, it’s ‘Arkham Home For The Emotionally Troubled.’ Was this supposed to be one of those Arrowverse things where they call it Starling City for a while, only to rebrand it Star City because that’s somehow better than just calling it Star City in the first place?
- "[Snyder] also said that the reason Darkseid lost track of which world the Mother Boxes were left on was because he was gravely injured and their forces sent limping away, and upon returning to Apokolips had to fight a civil war for the throne (possibly the event hinted where Steppenwolf betrayed him), wherein their records were lost." Imagine having a movie four hours long and not explaining the fucking backstory.

The more I go, the more I hate this article. I knwo the writer is coming from a good intention and I get that few things are as frustrating as dealing with continuity-obsessed fanatics who think they own the franchise and should define how it goes.
However, as a comic book fan here is just a short list of stories I think of when I think what an attitude continuity and canon don’t matter brought to the comics in the Big 2:
Avengers Arena
Avengers Undercover
Batman: War Games
Civil War
Civil War II
Countdown
Identity Crisis
Avengers: Disassembled
House of M
Amazon’s Attack
Heroes in Crisis
Ultimatum
Death of the New Gods
City of Bane
AXIS
New 52 Deathstroke
Absolute Carnage
The Infected: King Shazam
This attitude is behind undermining and berathing NXM characters for the last decade, constantly calling them children and claiming they don’t know how hard it is to be an X-Men in hopes people will forget that X-Men failed to sotp a tragedy that scarred these kids. If canon doesn’t matter then their faves can be “perfect” and NXM will be denied the grow they went through. It is behind horribly dishonest premise of current New Mutants that expects you to pretend they’re still new generation claiming the future and that Marvel didn’t took a huge dump on them in 1992 to push Rob Liefeld’s garbage. It is behind making interesting B and C-Listers be ignored or dismissed in stories they should be involved in (Rachel in Avengers vs X-Men), job (entire Cosmic Marvel in Infinity) or killed for the sake of pushing same “classic” characters - if they weren’t popular enough for the writer to like them, they obviously don’t matter, right? It is behind people who say OMD wasn’t an issue. It is behind people who defend having characters known for being more lighthearted (Runaways, Mayday Parker) go through horrible shit and be shown as incompetent morons for being unable to stop it because “they don’t know how to face REAL villains” and all the past stories in which they DID don’t matter.
I can name much more horrible comics that come from this attitude than I can name good ones.

roommates (bucky barnes)
NEW YEAR
summary: the mundanity of being roommates with bucky.
pairings: au!bucky barnes x fem!reader
warnings: swearing, alcohol, implied sex
a/n: happy new year everyone!
series masterlist
Tumblr media
“hey, happy new year’s eve!” y/n looked up from her phone and was greeted with the sight of steve standing in front of her. he was wearing a tight silk emerald green shirt, and there was a bottle of beer in his hand. his other hand was stuffed in his pocket. “is this seat taken?” he pointed to the spot next to her on the couch.
“uh, no. go ahead, sit down!” she pulled down the miniskirt that she had found shoved in the back of her closet. “i didn’t know you knew sam,” she said, turning towards him.
“yeah, i’ve known for some time. we were in the army together for a tour,” he replied, with a small shrug.
“oh, i didn’t know you were in the army, either. i guess i’m learning new things about you tonight,” she laughed.
he chuckled before responding, “yup. what about you? did you come with your boyfriend?”
“oh, no. i don’t have a boyfriend. i came with bucky, though. sam actually introduced us to each other and that’s how we became roommates,” she pointed out the brunette who was speaking to natasha by some speakers that were quietly playing music.
“and is that red head dating bucky?” steve asked with furrowed brows.
“no. everyone here is single,” she remarked. “makes the whole midnight kiss situation a little bit more interesting, huh?”
before she could turn over to see his expression, sam called her name. “how dare you sit in my house without a drink?! come here!”
she stood up, breathing out a laugh. “i’ll be back in a second.”
he caught her hand, pulling her to face him. he abruptly stood. there faces were inches away. “maybe i’ll see you at midnight?” he whispered.
“maybe,” she was whispered back.
“what was that about?” sam raised an eyebrow when she approached him.
“yeah,” bucky chimed in, leaning his elbows on the kitchen island. he had come over when she wasn’t paying attention.
“a little flirting never hurt, i hope,” she rolled her eyes.
“i say go for it,” natasha appeared out of thin air next to her.
“i don’t know! we’ll have to see where this night ends!” y/n threw her hands up in the air. “i don’t know about you guys, but i came here to get shitfaced and make questionable decisions. get me some alcohol!”
people kept steadily streaming into sam’s house as the time crept closer to midnight. the music grew louder. a few of the guests began dancing in the middle of the living room and more people joined until it was packed like a tin of sardines. y/n and bucky did shots with anyone who was willing.
there were ten minutes left until midnight when steve began looking for y/n. when there were five minutes left, he spotted natasha by the drinks table.
“hey, have you seen y/n?” he asked her.
she set her drink down shaking her head. “looking for your midnight kiss?” she questioned.
“yeah. i mean it’d be nice if i could find her before midnight,” he smiled charmingly at her.
“stay with me. if you don’t find her by midnight, then i’ll be your midnight kiss.”
soon enough the countdown began. steve decided to focus on natasha. when the clock struck midnight, his lips were on hers.
in the bathroom in sam’s bedroom, bucky was pushing y/n up the door, his lips attacking hers.
“let’s go home,” he whispered in her ear.
“let’s go home,” she echoed.
the following morning, y/n woke up sore. she sat up in bed, arching her back and stretched her arms above her head. she pressed the heels of her palms into her head, trying to push away the oncoming headache.
suddenly, she froze. she pulled her hands away from her face. she was in bucky’s room. he was laying next to her,fast asleep. hickies littered his neck and bare chest. she lifted up the sheets and saw that she was naked. she brought her hand up to cover her mouth. she pushed the covers off her body and got out of his bed. her hands shook as she opened his bedroom door. her outfit from the night trailed from her feet to the entrance to the house. she picked everything up before she went into her own room. she closed the door behind her.
she cried and she cried and she cried.

Pseudo Commentary pt. 1
~~~
@custommagiccards - Spawn of Kraj / Diversify
This is definitely a card that could have used flavor text, but I still like it. I think that there’s some way for it to go infinite, although lord knows how. With a set-specific mechanic like Evolve here, it probably needs reminder text. Having both these mechanics on one card implies that there’s some amalgam of Simic mechanics in whatever set this is, and I don’t think I hate that? Makes me imagine a “Ravnica Masters” kind of set with brand-new cards that combine mechanics across the board.
@dimestoretajic - Wizard’s Henchman / Bully
I think this card is fine, definitely a powerful uncommon. I don’t get Bully as a flavor mechanic at all, i.e. I have no idea how the IRL concept of bullying relates to the in-game mechanic of getting counters.
@dont-wanna-wanga - Variable Mage / Calculus
This card is silly and I love it. Calculus is far too narrow to be printed as a mechanic, but this card could see play by itself. “Whenever you cast a spell with a mana cost that contains X or activate an ability whose ability activation cost contains X, Variable Mage deals X damage to target opponent.” re: Unbound Flourishing
@fractured-infinity - Read the crystal / Channel
Hate to break it to you, but Channel is already a (deeply underused) mechanic, from the Kamigawa block. This feels like a riff on that? I think? I feel that there’s a way to potentially break this with artifacts, but I don’t see the use in this mechanic or spell without that. I honestly don’t know what you were trying to go for mechanically here. Flavor, sure.
@i-am-the-one-who-wololoes - Spirit of the Tolls / Blood Offering (?)
I’m going to start by saying that if you strip this card of its non-evergreen keywords, it’s actually kind of cool, maybe a little powerful. But I need to be harsh here for a second. a) The mechanic you created was not an action keyword as outlined. b) “Offering” is actually already a mechanic from the Kamigawa block. c) What potential could blood offering have? On an Inspired creature, sure, but in general, even if it lets you have stronger on-curve creatures at common, I think it would be better as an in-set theme than a mechanic.
@indecisive-i-think - The Emperor’s Call / Countdown
Sacrifice this card and sacrifice a creature? Not sure I like that. In general, it’s a similar problem of this being better as an in-set theme. This card is wordy as hell and it really doesn’t need the action of Countdown. Suspend already did something like that and better. Why not have a cycle or series of “countdown” cards that utilized this mechanic, without the odd tribal tack-on and weird punishment? Also, thank you for reminding me, I need to make a post about Deviantart credit.
@koth-of-the-hammerpants - Skeleton Crew / Materialize
I thought for a second that Materialize would be too narrow, then I rescinded, then I thought and realized that yeah that’s crazy narrow. BUT. What if instead it gave a regular ETB ability and ALSO had a special Materialize ability? Like - “Materialize - When Skeleton Crew enters the battlefield, create a 1/1 black and white Spirit creature token with flying. If it wasn’t cast from your hand, create two of those tokens instead.” Then there could be cards that doubled damage, drew cards, did all sorts of crazy stuff, with more minor reanimation spells, higher as-fan of blinking, MIRACLE CREATURES? I love the potential.
@mistershinyobject - Goblin Accomplice / Diversity
Diversity makes me hesitant. In a draft set, Diversity is going to happen nine times out of ten, and if it doesn’t, then it makes you want to not play the cards. It goes against tribal, an anti-tribal card. Wait, no, that’s my feeling about it, that’s why I’m hesitant. This is a mechanic that encourages players to not build up, but cut away. Instead of “I want to build a deck that has this, this and this,” you have a mechanic that says “Build a deck WITHOUT this, this and this.” It’s not so much restrictive as it is limiting. This is a tough lesson and a great way to teach it.
@misteruniverse - Planar Absolution / Absolve
The way this is worded, it makes me feel that Absolve is for big things and big swings. Chances are, in a limited format, that Absolve abilities can only happen once a game. Even in constructed, seven cards is over 10% of your deck. I don’t know if it could be printed at common, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s restrictive. The way this card is worded, with Absolve as a cast trigger, you’ll exile all nonland permanents you don’t control even if the spell is countered, and that’s disgustingly powerful and probably not what you intended.
@morbidlyqueerious - Araxeman of the Blood Raid / Bloodstained
Wait, what is lifesteal? Also, Bloodstained is a little awkward. I think this ability should be “2R: Creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn for each player that was dealt damage this turn.” “Took damage” isn’t in Magic’s current vocab. I like Devil tribal here. Rakdos, eat your heart out! Frankly, a gang of devils wandering the world sounds much more realistic for character development than Demons, considering Demons are, like, big baddies and you can only get one or two real cool dudes. Devils? Hell yeah, more boys, pointy boys. I don’t know where I’m going with this.
Fireworks at night
Title: Fireworks at night Type: One shot Pairing: Peter Parker x reader Warnings: slight angst, fluff at the end :) (and a very brief mentioning of Infinity war) Summary / Request: reader thought she won’t be celebrating new year with her bf peter after not coming back after his missions but he surprise her by doing the spiderman kiss (upside down during new year countdown). Word count: Note: Was requested through THIS by: @nxrsarah Hope you like it and have a nice day, too ♡
AND SORRY THAT IT TOOK SO LONG, omg!
~~
Snowflakes kept falling from the sky bumping against some others and creating bigger, newer ones. It wasn't unusual in the last month of the year, when you could count down the days until a new year would begin. December was a nice but cold month, filled with holidays, Christmas joy and the smell of cinnamon and cookies. Children were playing in the deep snow blanket, building snowmen and throwing snowballs at each other or a house wall.
December was the month when they would come home with a red nose and cold fingertips.
December was the month, were adults would meet up at the Christmas markets to drink some warm wine and chat about nonsense.
December was the month, were you and your boyfriend got together.
He asked you to the cinemas last year, where you watched the new Star Wars movie which you had chosen, very much to his delight. He had told you before that he wants to watch it, but Ned couldn’t go with him, so you decided to give him an early present and so, you watched it with him.
A week later, he asked you to be his. He told you this February his biggest secret – his alias as spider-man at your valentine’s date. He told you about his trip to Germany with Tony and that Captain America almost dropped a container on him without knowing if he had super strength. Fortunately, he has or else he wouldn’t sit here with you on your bed, reading through his own book while you tried to close a hole in his glove.
“What are you doing on New Year’s Eve, Peter?”, you laid your head back as you asked, removing your eyes from the woolen mess in your hands. You watched your boyfriend as he marked his sentence where he stopped to look into your (y/e/c) eyes. “Do you have something to do for the ‘Internship’ or are you free for your girlfriend or do you have to travel the world with Mr. Stark? Or do you have to fight aliens in outer space?”, your eyes grew wider with every assume you asked.
His too, because he wasn’t ready to take on something as big as an alien. He just wanted to stay by you and watch the fireworks and give you a New Year’s Kiss. He didn’t want to go out and fight the bad boys, when he can stay at home with you and a hot chocolate with whipped cream, starring at the night sky and counting downwards from ten. Peter wanted a normal life, just for one day.
“I don’t know yet, darling. But I promise I’ll be by your side when this year is over, and the new one begins”, he smiled with closed eyes. “And I hope you’ll let me stay there for a couple of years” he added.
“Bye Mr. and Mrs. (Y/l/n). Have a nice evening!”, Peter waved after your parents had long left your apartment to leave you two alone and to have a New Year’s Eve for their own. You had snacks and drinks prepared which stood in the kitchen, patiently waiting to be consumed by you and your boyfriend, but apparently fate decided something different for the two of you as Peter’s phone went off like crazy.
“Pick up, If I hear ‘despacito’ one more time I’ll throw your phone out of the window”, you hissed after the fourth time his ringtone filled the apartment and even over toned your usually very loud neighbors. His warm arms and chest left you to walk over towards the kitchen counter to pick up the ongoing device.
“Hello? Yes, Hello, Mr. Stark”, he looked at you before he walked away a few more steps. “What? No, no, no, it’s new year’s e…” he got cut off. Peter closed his eyes, bite on his lower lip and listened to the raised voice of Tony Stark. “Yeah. I’ll be there soon”, your boyfriend let out a long and heavy breath before he returned to you and your knowing expression on your face.
“Internship?” – Peter nodded.
“Mr. Stark needs your help immediately?” – Peter nodded again.
“Then go, Spider-boy. The world needs you”, you couldn’t hide the sad tone in your voice and Peter couldn’t ignore it. Same goes for the tiny tears in your eyes, which you blinked away very quickly.
“I promise, I’ll make it up to you, (YN)”, he said, as he grabbed his bag, run into your room and swung out of your window, just a second later.
“Of course, Peter…”
Between all the news from the recent bank robberies and failed fireworks which caused more work for the firefighters, you got a glimpse at the thing Peter and Tony were fighting and chasing. It looked like a flying crazy clown with two other creatures, but you couldn’t see properly. Your eyes were fixated on the blue and red suit of spider-man and how this creature threw him against a wall and how his webs helped to keep the three of them still. You let out a long hold breath, but you weren’t fully relieved. Peter wasn’t at home yet and normally he would swing by almost immediately after he fought the crime.
“Peter, where are you?”, your words were visible through the cold December air in New York, as you stood on your balcony to look for your very own superhero. A firework started a few blocks from yours, people counted backwards. Some of them started with fifteen, other with ten.
Ten seconds until new year, and you have to start it without Peter by your side. Again.
The people around you continued the count down, as you heard a familiar noise, followed by the sight of the red mask of spider-man. His mask was pulled over his nose and you could see a few cuts on his cheek, also a bruise on his neck.
“Gosh, Pete, come in and let me take care of you”, you were just about to push down the handle of the door to your balcony, as Peter pulled you back to him.
“No. Nonono, (Y/N)”, the countdown continued and grew louder as it reached five seconds. “I want to end this year and start a new one with you just like a somewhat normal couple. With a simple kiss. No emergency stitches, no patch ups, no bleeding sheets. Just a kiss from my beautiful girlfriend”, he said just seconds before he kissed you softly as the countdown ended and the fireworks light up the dark night sky of New York.
Scar jo is a super bad person tho,,,,,
look i would never actually date her irl but she hot and i gay and i don’t know her and so whether or not she’s a good person is kinda, a moot point? also like she’s a different kind of bad than say, johnny depp. also, slightly unrelated, but this was also written about a specific scene in iron man 2 when she walks in for the first time and, considering i was live posting my infinity war countdown, my “gay ass” goes “OH I KNOW THE P E R F E C T GIF FOR THIS” and thus a star was born
Countdown to Infinity War
Honourable Mention: The Winter Soldier from Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Tumblr media
“Who the hell is Bucky?”
[Played by Sebastian Stan]
If the Maximoff twins don’t count as villains, then Bucky definitely doesn’t count because IT WASN’T HIS FAULT, TONY but he still deserves a mention.
Exhibit A: he almost killed Nick Fury AND Captain America
Exhibit B: his metal arm is like, so cool
Exhibit C: he confuses me sexually with his gorgeous hair and lost, vulnerable eyes
Yes, the Winter Soldier makes me feel equal parts arousal and sadness, like an erotic masseuse who won’t stop crying. It’s a conflicting set of feelings, like when you want to comfort a brainwashed, broken man by taking him home and letting him explore your body, but are afraid of what his weird robo-hand might do to your genitals. I’d like to give him a hug and a hot meal, but I’d prefer to deliver it from a safe distance, maybe via one of those bomb disposal robots the police have.
Just kidding! Bucky is fine as long as you don’t mention rusty freight cars or the number 17. He’s much more of a heroic figure these days, which is why he only gets an honourable mention. But he’s the only baddie besides Ultron to get his name in the title, and if he was still the same implacable assassin, unfazed by vibranium frisbees or Natasha Romanoff’s thighs wrapped around his head, he’d be in the top ten.
3 limbs out of 4.
