Waylon smiled softly as she came around the corner, joining him on the deck. He reached a hand out, knowing she would come to him without needing to say a word. Satisfied, he wrapped his arm around her waist from where he sat, holding her against him. “And where have you been all morning?”

"Oh, well, that changes things now, doesn't it?" He teased, as if he were considering having her leave him for this other, probably just as successful, man. He knew it bothered her - the way her mother felt about him, and he changed the subject, pulling the small stack of envelopes from where they sat next to his cup. "They want me to...." Waylon picked up one of the letters to read verbatim. "Kindly be in attendance for this year's dinner." He scoffed. "Guess they finally realized I haven't gone for, what, six years? Might need to buy a new suit."

“Someone far superior to myself, I assume.” He sighed softly, good naturedly. Her mother’s opinions on him had never bothered him - they weren’t about to, now. What he cared about was the woman beside him, and little else. “Don’t you dare.” He warned lightly, tightening his grip on her. “Pour yourself some tea, sit with me.”

“Well, he is the youngest head of a department within Cliodne’s,” she teased with a light laugh, taking a seat next to him. Her mother had never approved of their marriage and while he didn’t seem to care, it had always been something of a questionable topic for Yvette. She would never leave him, never be the slightest bit interested in those her mother thought would be a better match, but it still hurt that after all this time her mother still didn’t trust her decisions, that she didn’t realize that he made her happier than any of her poncy friends son’s could even dream of.

"Both." He chuckled, not having given much thought about either to be completely honest. Waylon usually gave in to whatever Yvette wished for the holiday, not caring about much besides the fact that they spent it as a family. "We? Granted, I wasn't there for your conversation, but I highly doubt that's what she had in mind." Of course he would be there if his wife wanted, his aim was to please her after all, not her mother.

“Not worried.” He said softly, shrugging one shoulder as he relinquished the rest of the mail with a sigh. Waylon didn’t care much for what any of it said, and he returned his attention to his wife, a much more satisfying way to spend his time. “That’s good to hear, I’ve been meaning to send an owl, but work has been atrocious of late and it seems to have slipped my mind.” He frowned lightly, glad at least she had been able to speak with him. “Do you have any ideas for Christmas?” She had always been better at picking out gifts than he had.

“For gifts or plans for the day itself?” she asked with a sigh. “I’m sure you’ve guessed mother wants me to spend Christmas dinner at her place, but I told her we’d have to discuss what we were doing before I could tell her if we would be there.”
