Boock Bros. Contractors (Photo taken by me on March 26, 2023).

In 1913, Milo Boock was the owner of a subdivision of a Gold Park tract (Southwest Contractor and Manufacturer, Volume 11, Engineers and Architects Association of Southern California, 1913).

As of 1917, the brothers were in business together under the Fictitious Business Name of Boock Bros, with their name registered at 1819 South Normandie Avenue as a brick and cement business. Charles lived at that address, as well, but Milo lived at 1818 Roosevelt Avenue. In the same year, they were involved in a lien. (Southwest Builder and Contractor, Volume 50, F.W. Dodge Company, 1917). They are both listed in the Los Angeles City Directory, 1917 - Milo as a cement contractor and Charles as a brick contractor (Los Angeles Directory Co., 1917, accessed via the Los Angeles Public Library Historic City and Business & Phone Directories collection online).

Charles J. Boock was born on June 26, 1878 in Grant Township, Clinton, Iowa to John Charles Boock and Emelie Fedderson. At the time of the 1920 U.S. census, Charles was the head of a household, living with his mother “Emily” and a 53-year-old widowed lodger named Elisabeth Simon. His mother was born in Germany and so was the lodger. All three of them had their “mother tongue” listed as German. Charles was listed as a Cement & Brick Contractor already.

By the 1940 U.S. Federal Population Census, he was living in Councilmanic District 12 of the Los Angeles Township. He was the brother of the head of the household, assumed to be Milo Francis Boock, 1880-1956. Also in the household was Mary Boock, 56 years and I assume Milo’s wife, and Mary Boock, 19 and I assume Milo and the older Mary’s daughter. Milo was born in Colorado. Charles was single and spoke English. They had another brother not living (or working?) with them named Harry Francis Boock, 1893-1980. They all lived at 362 N. Reno St., Los Angeles.

According to some random website that I have no reason to believe is accurate but does align with other info I’ve found, Milo “was a chainman” on a lot of USDMS Mineral Surveys in the late 19th century. “Milo was 18 in 1898, and went on to get a college degree and become a contracr (sic) in Los Angeles” (docplayer.net).

In 1946, Charles married Evangeline Settles Johnson, of Long Beach, in Los Angeles. As of 1948, he was listed at 5351/2 Denny St., North Hollywood, with license number 11570, Class C-29 (California Contractors’ State License Board, Directory of Contractors: Official Directory Licensed Contractors of California, Volume 17, Issue 1, Registrar of Contractors, Department of Professional and Vocational Standards, 1948). His marriage license says the Denny St. address is his residence. They were married at ages 69 and 73 respectively! He had never been married, but she was a widow.

Charles was still living in Los Angeles in 1950. She died in 1955 and was cremated; he died in North Hollywood on August 2, 1960 and he was buried in Fresno, California’s Chapel of the Light Columbarium (FamilySearch).

According to FamilySearch, Boock may be a “topographic name for someone who lived by a beech tree or in a beech wood, from Middle Low German buche.”

Little Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery ELDER AARON B. FRANCIS Had Been In Service of Old School Baptist Church Many Years Special to The Morning News DELMAR, Del., April 18 --Elder Aaron B. Francis, aged 77 years, pastor or the Old School Baptist Church, died suddenly at his home here yesterday from heart failure. He had been serving: the churches in this locality for thirty-two years. He was pastor also of the church at London Tract, Pa. His churches included Little Creek. Broad Creek. Rewastico. Forest Grove and Salisbury, the last named as supply since the death of Elder Durand. He was a Confederate veteran, having been a member of the army of northern Virginia during  the Civil War. He was twice married, and is survived by Mrs. Francis, who was Miss Fannie Cole, of Baltimore county, Md. His remains will be interred at Little Creek cemetery on Wednesday. Removed to a farm in eastern Loudoun Co., in 1881, near Willard in Fairfax Co. Preached for nearly 31 yrs., serving as a pastor and evangelist in Va., Md., Del., N. J., and Pa. the man came along ways to died in Sussex County, Delaware. His father was Robert H. Francis, his mother was Susannah Bise. His first wife (Laura Pagf, born 1850,died 1897) is buried back in Loudoun County, Virginia. His second wife Mary F. was 21 years younger then him. He lived in Delmar. He is first picked up in the 1900 census as being a minister (don't know which church) with a number of daughters; Susanna, Anna, and Margaret (from the first wife). His sons were Roger and Lewis.

“Oh my god, no.” You giggle into your hand. You and Barney had moved, sitting at the kitchen island, the bowl of grapes between the two of you. He stood on the other side, telling you antics and stories from his and Clint’s childhood together.

“Oh swear.” He laughs.

“God I hope he doesn’t take after either of you.” You snort.

“He’s a Barton, he’s going too.” Barney grins at you.

“You know for two boys in the circus, I would assume you’d be less, clumsy.” Your head tips.

“Oh we are graceful, but it’s like a rickety light switch. Sometimes it’s there, other times, you get shocked flipping it one to many times.” He shrugs.

“You know that makes a lot more sense about the two of you.” You nod, slowly pushing another grape into your mouth.

Barney suddenly moves, his back to the door, his chest to your side. Shielding you suddenly. Breaking metal, splintering wood, the loudest crashing noise, shakes your apartment. You yelp, turning in your seat, putting your belly farther from the destruction. There’s footsteps, you turn your head back, before your whole body comes around again. Buck stood on your once standing door, Nat stood just a hint behind him, arm raised, pistol in hand. Clint storms in next. 

“Clinton Francis Barton!” You shove Barney away from you. Everyone shifts slightly.

“Babe.” He blinks.

“My door!” You yell at him.

“Barney?” Clint’s attention no longer on you. You wince slightly. Nat’s eyes land on the gun on the island.

“Hands up, Barton.” She swings her gun around, aimed at his chest. Barney puts his hands up slowly.

“He dropped by.” You squeak. Clint’s whole brow drops down.

“Dropped by?” He repeats in the most unconvinced voice.

“With a gun?” Bucky adds.

“James Barnes, you put my door right, right now.” You warn him. Bucky looks down at the door under his feet.

“Yes Ma’am.” Buck nods, stepping off the once door to your apartment.

“Natasha, put it down.” You point a finger at her.

“He has one.” Clint points out.

“On my counter.” You huff. “It’s not pointed at anyone.” You point out. Nat slowly lowers her gun, looking a little scolded.

“You just decided to drop by?” Clint eyes Barney. Buck is behind him, trying to rest the broken door in the frame. “The apartment of a woman you’ve never met before?” Clint’s tone nasty.

“Well,” Barney’s head tips as he puts his hands down “I, well,” he struggles.

“You’re a horrible liar.” Clint shakes his head.

“I didn’t exactly drop by.” Barney shrugs.

“Are you okay?” Nat looks at you, moving towards you.

“Fine. Good lord, did you really need to kick my door in?” You roll your eyes.

“You didn’t answer your phone.” Clint moves towards you, glaring at Barney who steps back.

“I was having a conversation. Well, less conversation an more a intervention.” You admit.

“Intervention?” The three of them repeat. You glance at Barney.

“I kidnapped her.” He admits, looking down at his shoes for a moment.

“You fuck!” Clint moves, you put your hand on his chest.

“Clint Barton, you touch him, and I will banned you from the room when I bring your son into the world.” You warn him. Clint’s face falls quickly.

“But,” he starts.

“Oh no, you don’t talk right now. You say things and then well, you do stupid shit.” You point out. Nat shrugs, nodding slowly. Buck picks up a grape popping it into his mouth.

“Rude.” Clint mutters.

“But true.” You pat his cheek. “Now, yes he showed up to kidnap me. But that’s not how it worked out.” You explain.

“She yelled at me.” Barney nods. Nat and Buck smirk at you.

“I told him his ways were wrong, he saw the light.” You roll your eyes.

“I already apologized, before you came in.” Barney adds.

“Saw the light?” Clint glares at him.

“Oh Clint stop. He put himself between me and the door you had Bucky kick in.” You point out.

“Now that makes more sense.” Buck nods, eating another grape. 

“I thought we caught him grabbing her.” Nat nods, eating another grape as well.

“No, I didn’t want the debris from the door to hit her or him.” Barney shrugs, looking bashful.

“Why?” Clint glares.

“She’s my sister in law, he’s my nephew.” Barney mutters, running a hand through his red hair.

“Not yet.” Clint mutters, looking over at you.

“Huh?” Barney looks confused.

“She’s not your sister in law yet.” He mutters.

“Oh Christ.” You wave your hand. “I keep you from starting another fight with your brother, that never is going to end. You just kill everyone around you, and you want to bring up marriage?” You fold your arms over your chest.

“No.” Clint looks away.

“She’s scary.” Barney, scratches the back of his head. Clint does the same, your head tips looking at the both of them. 

“Wow, they’re really brothers.” Nat nods.

“Weird, there’s two of them.” Buck shakes his head.

“Three.” They reply together.

“Do you think he’ll be like that?” Nat grins at Buck.

“I want to know if he’s going to be a red head or blonde.” Buck smirks.

“That’s about the only difference they have.” You snort.

“Hey!” They both exclaim together, with the same offended face. They exchange a look.

“Shut up. You’re still going to jail for kidnapping her.” Clint points a finger at Barney.

“Clinton.” You sigh.

“No, rules.” Clint stands his ground.

“He should go to Ravencroft.” You nod.

“Y/N.” Clint sighs.

“I’m not asking you. I’m telling you, and I will tell Maria.” You wave him off.

“What the hell happened during your kidnapping?” Nat grins.

“She yelled at me. Called out our sibling issues. Called me stupid.” Barney admits.

“Sibling issues. We don’t,” Clint stops suddenly. He shifts awkwardly, dropping his eyes to the floor.

“Seeing all those sibling issues now?” Buck grins.

“Do I have to be apart of the study?” Clint sighs loudly.

“Yes.” You nod.

“This all started because of him.” Clint jerks his finger towards his brother.

“Wow, years later, all grown up and still can’t take responsibility. How are you having a baby?” Barney scuffs. 

“We really want to talk about being responsible?” Clint scuffs. “Living the life of crime.” Clint throws his hands up.

“Hey.” Three voice reply.

“Clint.” You sigh. “You are not helping.” You shake your head.

“Fine. But I don’t like this. Maybe Sue can do his study.” He looks at you.

“I can’t see my feet, or I would kick you.” You squint at him.

“Babe.” He huffs. You slip out of the chair.

“Like it or not, I’m doing it.” You poke him in the chest. Clint grumbles, Nat moves, taking out a set of cuffs. Before she can cuff Barney, Clint sucker punches him. You yelp, something warm runs down your legs slowly.

“Clint!” You gasp.

“For kidnapping my woman and baby.” Clint shrugs, when Barney pushes himself up.

“I deserved that.” He mutters but looks rather salty about it. 

“Um.” You swallow.

“Y/N did you pee?” Buck asks.

“What?” Three sets of heads look down at the floor.

“No, my water broke.” Your voice a little shocked.

“Ohhh.” Three male voices reply.

“Clint, hospital bags.” Nat snaps her fingers at him. He runs for the bedroom. “Bucky get the damn door.” She glares at Buck who moves, pulling the door open. It falls to the floor with a thump.

“I’ll call Stark to get that fixed.” Buck looks bashfully down at the door.

When Alexander Hamilton gets drafted for the Revolutionary war, he ends up getting a spot as a treasury secretary but on the midst of all of the war that's going on in america, he also ends up falling in love with one of his bestfriends and aide de camp, John Laurens, an american soldier whose married to another women but John never really loved his wife, his father Henry Laurens finds out that Alex is pregnant with John's child, so he pays someone to shut Alex up about the whole thing...and life just goes down hill from their, war is shit, everyone sucks, and no one plays games during these dark times. Clinton Francis Barton was carefree, fun-loving, a general clown and loved to play around, even at twenty-five. 

"Snowball fight!" he yelled, catching a brunette in the back of her head. 

"Clint!" 

"Sorry, Hill! Hey, could you tell Fury to lighten up?" 

Nick Fury, a man who would scare the dead, turned a glare on Clint so heated, Clint swore the snow around him melted. Given that Fury only had one eye, it was an incredible feat. 

"Get away from the edge, Clint," the woman, Maria Hill, warned, "you're going to get hurt." 

"Hurt?" Clint asked, scoffing. He ignored the three plasters on his arm from the scratches he received climbing a tree in Washington, as well as the bandage wrapping his hand and forearm from spraining his wrist trying to copy Juni Cortez. "I'm never hurt!" 

Clint proceeded to do some horrible ballet while Hill and Fury ignored him. 

"You said the signale was traced here?" Fury asked. 

Hill glanced at her tablet. "Yes, sir. Two days ago, dated May first, 2008, an unidentified beacon went off."

"But none of our agents have ever been to Canada on assignments of any kind. Why would Shield receive a beacon tracing back here?" 

Hill shrugged. "Records say the beacon resembles something from as far back as the seventies. Belonged to an old criminal organisation called--"

"BARTON!" 

Hill looked up as Fury rushed to the edge off the cliff. Clint was missing.

"I'm alive!" Clint grunted on the frequency. "I just broke some ice and caused a minor avalanche. Hey, there's a tunnel now!"

"Clint, don't go into the--"

"I'm goin' into the tunnel," Clint said, ignoring Hill.

"This is so cool. Hey, if I cause a second avalanche, you'll get a rescue team here before I freeze to death, right?"

"Tempted not to," Fury grumbled, "what do you see?"

"Lot of ice. More ice. Just ice. Oh, look! Some ice!" Then he screamed. "Hey, I found a body!" 

"Is it alive?" Hill eventually questioned. 

"It's frozen. And there's something beeping in there. Flashing too. Might be our beacon." 

Hill glanced at Fury. 

"Call in a rescue team," Fury ordered, the same time Hill murmured, "Calling in a rescue team." 

Down beneath the cliff, Clint stared at the suspended body, whose crimson hair hid her face from view. 

"Black Widow," Clint murmured, recognising the symbol on her uniform belt.

Nothing Good Happens After Midnight: Seventeen

You thudded your head gently on your desk and grumbled in frustration. You were tired. So very tired. It was next to impossible to think around your caffeine headache and the tiredness.

You missed coffee. So much.

It made early mornings that much easier to bear. Made them possible. Without it, you just wanted to be warm in bed. You thudded your head on the wood again gently and groaned. There was so fucking much. Too much.

When the sliding glass doors slid open your head snapped up, “Clinton Francis Barton, if you want to live you will leave you coffee outside.” Clint paused and did a full 180, setting his coffee just outside the door before strolling in, humming to himself.

“Struggling this morning, huh?” he asked fondly. You nod rubbing the back of your neck, “Dunno what’s worse right now, not being able to eat anything until after 1pm or not being able to drink coffee. Or the headache from the caffeine withdrawal. Clint chuckled and pulled you into a one-armed hug, “Sorry I asked... that sounds miserable.” You snort, “This baby better appreciate it,” you grouse, “that’s all I gotta say.” Clint kisses your head and chuckles, “I’m sure, one day, they’ll appreciate you gallant sacrifice... after they’re old enough to develop their own socially approved chemical dependence.” You smack him gently and he grins, “Got that file for Strange?” he asked, “Since we can’t have our white witch we had to pull our second string.”

You snort, “I’m sure Stephen would be thrilled to know you call him that,” you say, rummaging through the papers on your desk to find the file. “It should be fairly straight forward. Silver bullets, salt marinade, then burn baby burn,” you tell him. “This has all the hallmarks of some low-grade spell slinger. I’m willing to bet it’s some nerds who read too much Love Craft and added a dash of shitty Wicca.” Clint took the file with a nod of thanks, “Not bad for only having a couple working brain cells this morning,” he says. “Out Barton,” you say, shooting him in the chest with a nerf dart, laughing. Clint runs out with the file and dodges past Bruce to scoop up his coffee on the way to the briefing. 

“Bruce,” you say putting the nerf gun down, “Coffee. Outside.” He chuckles but he sets his cup down. You look miserable right now and he wants to take you back upstairs and put you back in bed. Or at least distract you for a little while.

Once he sets his mug down, he crosses the floor to you and tuts softly, “Still got a headache?” he asks. You nod, “I’m so fucking tired and my head hurts. And I’m hungry but I’ve got like... 4 hours til I can eat anything.” He wraps his arms around you gently and kisses your head, “I’m sorry, sweetheart,” he murmurs, “Anything I can do?” You shake your head, “Not that I know of... I just gotta suck it up until it’s over.” He cuddles you a little and smiles, “How about a walk?” he asks, “I’ve got some time before my next meeting.”

You lay your head on his shoulder for a second, “Can you just hold me for a minute?” you ask, “I missed you this week.” He melts a little and kisses your head. Of course you don’t want to go walk right now. You’re tired. You want to go back to sleep. Or eat something. Or both. He pulls our your desk chair and sits down, holding his arms out, “C ‘ mere, baby,” he coaxes, smiling a little. “You’re meeting,” you start as you settle on his lap, resting your head on his shoulder. “If I have time for a walk, I have time for this,” he reminds gently, “Just close your eyes for a bit.” He traces nonsense patterns on the outside of your thigh and rests his cheek on your hair. It doesn’t take long for you to actually fall asleep and he isn’t surprised. Between the hormones and the lack of espresso, he wasn’t even sure he could have gotten out of bed under the circumstances. He liked his sleep. And his coffee.

When it’s time for his meeting, he stands slowly and deposits you in the chair carefully, throwing his jacket over you to keep you comfortable. Hopefully, things will look a little brighter after a nap. He moves carefully, keeping his tread light and scooping up his now cold cup of coffee. He knew it would only be fair if he also gave up coffee but, he thought snorting to himself, devotion only went so far. He made a mental note to make sure there was a soft pretzel and a coke waiting for you at one. Possibly two pretzels, he amended. You were probably starving.

Hawkeye X FEM! Reader: Better Than You

Hey Guys! Lyz Here!

Ok, so, first of all, this is my first attempt at a fluffy/sassy Hawkeye fanfic. Luv u lots my babies. If you’re reading this can you guys please message me on how long you think stories should be. I get anxiety if I write something that is under 800 words but sometimes I feel you guys just want a cute story that’s like 500 words so it’s short and right to the chase. Summary: You are just as good, if not better, with a bow than Hawkeye and you are determined to prove it to him.

You took a deep breath in, you cleared your mind as you did. In through your nose, the sweetness in the air being eminent in the soft scent of flowers. You could feel the air fill your lungs slowly, filling, filling, filling you to the brim. You pulled back gracefully on your bow, the string tightening with every inch of pull. The tips of the bow tensed as you pulled pith all your strength. Your hand gripping the bow tighter and the ends tensed but the middle remains strong. You held your breath as you anticipated the movements of the targets in front of you. One, two, three, you counted them as they swung back and forth on the automated belt. You needed them to connect for this shot. You let your breath float out of your lungs as you exhaled at waited for the target to reach the optimum firing range.

On the last second of your breath, you let loose your arrow. It flew like a torpedo through the air and you watched as it went. It flew through the air. It spun as it went and with such ferocity, it punctured all three of the targets with ease. You let out a sigh as you heard someone approach from behind you.

“Are you actually practicing or was that just a lucky shot?”

You scoff at the gruff, and gravely man’s voice as you walk over to the targets to retrieve your arrow. You grab your arrow and turn to face the scraggly, but built man in front of you. His hair falling down into his face as the wind blew softly through the trees

“Pick a place and a time little bird and I’ll beat your ass no matter what,”

“Oh you wish Barton.” You aimed to a hanging target a few yards away. Before you could let the arrow fly, Barton’s arrow shot passed you. You growled in frustration and the man eyed your annoyance, satisfied with his achievements.

“I bet you couldn’t hit 10 targets that far away.”

“You know I can Barton” He stood back, signaling for you to step forward.

“Do your best little bird” You lifted your bow, Wind blowing softly against your cheek. You pulled an arrow out from the quiver, placing it gently by the bow. You eyed the bullseye of the target and aimed, pulling the string back. Just before letting go a gush of wind blew onto your cheek.

“Watch yourself Clint” you stated bluntly, not moving an inch. The arrow flew fast, tearing through the air and striking the center of the target. “Bullseye,” You smirked to see Clint slightly annoyed that his sneak plan failed. Thinking it was the end of that you pulled out another arrow, letting it fly to another target. Clint Barton, Hawkeye, did nothing but watch as you hit 3 more perfect shots.

“7 more little bird. You’ve done good so far but can you keep it up?”

“I’m yet to see you shoot Barton,” you said with an as-a-matter-of-fact tone.

He picked up his bow and aimed to a target, hitting it in the center perfectly. You let out a slight hum of approval, before quickly shooting your own arrow at the same target. The arrow split through his in a matter of mere seconds. “6.” You turned to a target with one of your arrows already poking through. He watched in awe as you shot 2 more bullseyes, both splitting already shot arrows.

“5,4. Oh, I’m almost there Barton, must be worrying now…hmmm?” You taunted, a cheeky smile plastered on your previously concentrated face.

“You’ll lose your grip soon enough” He chuckled, a silly idea slipping into his thought box.

Just before you shot the 7th arrow Barton nudged your arm, making the arrow fly into a tree.

“Oh goodness, (Y/N) I am so sorry, must’ve slipped” He gasped, almost too obvious that it was on purpose. You turned around, of course, he would push you. Clint Barton never lost a bet… and if he did, it was because he pitied you.

“Oh shut up” you seethed out.

You pulled out the second-last arrow and aimed at a target. Breathing deeply as you pulled the string back, watching as the bow tensed up, ready to shoot it far and at a fast pace. Before letting loose, Barton jumped behind you and began crawling his fingers on your waist. 

“C-Clint s-s-stop i-it,” you giggled, letting the arrow loose, it flew curved, staying straight for a bit then flying into the dirt ground.

The other avenger kept tickling you, till you managed to wriggle off of him.

“Sorry little bird,” He smirked, playfully. You rolled your eyes and turned back to the targets. Pulling your last arrow out, you aimed carefully, taking as much time as you needed to get it perfect.

“Clint, go stand over there,” You said, moving your head slightly but keeping the bow in the same position. The arrow shot out of aim, slowly moving towards its target in a clockwise rotation. Barton stepped over, gently nudging the bow as the tail of the arrow passed. If he was a second later it would’ve hit the bullseye. You almost instantly screamed at the man.

“Clinton Francis Barton! How dare you!” You raged, pushing him over.

“Little Bird, I did say you couldn’t hit all the targets” He reasoned, wrapping an arm around your waist, pulling you to his chest. “But I never said why,” he sighed, lifting your chin slowly. He moved your head to the last arrow you shot. It had hit a straight bullseye but just missed the perfect center.

“B-But h-how?” you stuttered, confused. How on earth did it hit the bullseye? He…Did he move the bow just in time to sabotage the shot?

“Pure luck little bird, pure luck” he smiled down at your face. His blue eyes looking straight into your big (e/c) eyes.

“I still won the bet though” He added, looking down at your hardened expression.

“What do you want?”

“Join me...I want to show you something” He smiled, not revealing anything of his plan.

“I somehow don’t trust you Clint Barton” You giggled, walking away from the practice area with him.
