Fuck it, summary for Steven Universe fanfic incoming!

Greg and Steven Universe were confused.

When you try to repair a gaping crack on the side of a mysterious, storm producing Geode - one that may or may not suddenly explode and wipe out all life on Earth - you have a certain set of expectations. Maybe a stray bolt of lightning hits you, or maybe you'll get blown away by hurricane level wind gusts. Maybe you'll forgive your father for lying about his leg still being injured even though you used magic healing spit on him. And maybe, even if you're still upset he lied to you, you understand that he just wanted an excuse to live with his half-alien son and spend some more time with him.

You don't expect someone to appear from a bolt of lightning and collapse in between you and the raging storm Geode. But let's be honest. When you're dealing with an ancient race of shape-shifting, planet destroying, humanoid gemstones, a lot of the unexpected becomes par for the course.

So, Greg and Steven seal up the Geode with a bit of duct tape, nudge the passed out stranger with their feet after the two stop freaking out, before shrugging and drag them back to the warp pad. I mean, it's probably just typical Crystal Gem stuff, right? 

Or…

Charley was your run of the mill human college student last they checked, stressing over finals and eating subpar convenient store food for meals. Now they're stuck in a cartoon universe that's simultaneously too childish and too fucked up for them to deal with in any capacity. Oh, and did they mention the fucking gemstone embedded in their goddamn eyesocket?! 

Yeah, apparently that's a thing now. God, they are not looking forward to the whole Diamond Authority bullshit. It's hard enough trying to remember details about a cartoon they haven't seen in years, let alone try to keep track of which secrets and plot twists are common knowledge. They already can't look Pearl or Garnet in the eyes, let alone Steven, who's gonna have a life so shitty that there's literally a whole movie and epilogue dedicated to exploring his trauma.

But hey, at least they've got cool gem powers now. If only they had any luck figuring them out...

Alana Bloom x Hannibal Lecter ( x Will Graham )

Hannibal: Most psychology departments are filled with personality deficients. Dr. Bloom would be the exception. Jack: Yes, she would. Yes, she would. Well, she told me that you mentored her during her residency at Johns Hopkins. Hannibal: I learned as much from her as she did from me.

(This draws from the show, the books, and the movies!)

Maybe Alana was a project to him once upon a time, but I don't think she has been for a very long time. Alana isn't someone that he serves at the table, she's someone in the kitchen with him. She challenges his tastes and his pretentions; and she has a brilliant mind of her own, which can conceive of ideas that surprise and fascinate him.

In some ways, I don't think Hannibal wants her to see beyond the human mask. She's not his therapist or his patient-- and while she was his student, it was a long time before, and their relationship has evolved since then.

With Alana, like with Clarice, he could make a worthy space for Mischa in her place... And that makes her fundamentally different from Will or Bedelia.

Alana is the woman he wished had found him when he stumbled out of the woods in Lithuania, half starved with a broken arm, and shoved into a Soviet orphanage. And even as an adult, he feels more human around her, like he can warm his soul by her.

There's some stuff near the end of the novel Hannibal with Clarice that could easily be replaced with Alana, and which raises interesting questions:

“Hannibal Lecter, did your mother feed you at her breast?” “Yes.” “Did you ever feel that you had to relinquish the breast to Mischa? Did you ever feel you were required to give it up for her?” A beat. “I don’t recall that, Clarice. If I gave it up, I did it gladly.” Clarice Starling reached her cupped hand into the deep neckline of her gown and freed her breast, quickly peaky in the open air. “You don’t have to give up this one,” she said. Looking always into his eyes, with her trigger finger she took warm Chateau d’Yquem from her mouth and a thick sweet drop suspended from her nipple like a golden cabochan and trembled with her breathing. He came swiftly from his chair to her, went on a knee before her chair, and bent to her coral and cream in the firelight his dark sleek head.

This isn't to say that loved cures cannibalism and serial murder, oh no no no!

But Alana wasn't supposed to survive her defenestration. She wasn't supposed to be a loose end, or to seek revenge for what he'd done. Hannibal is a narcissist, and suddenly there was a piece on the board that wasn't doing what she was supposed to.

Hannibal is bored, and has a weakness for things that amuse him... And Alana Bloom looking for revenge is deeply amusing. He has no idea how this is going to play out, and that makes it even more interesting.

Alana: I was so blind. Hannibal: In your defense, I worked very hard to blind you. You can stay blind. You can hide from this. Walk away. I'll make no plans to call on you. But if you stay, I will kill you. Be blind, Alana. Don't be brave.

The audience knows that Hannibal is a nasty piece of work, but Alana? She doesn't. She sees Will, who is already unhinged, behaving dangerously and erratically. She has no reason not to trust Hannibal, who she's known for years, and who is actively manipulating her perception of events.

She isn't someone missing the obvious, she's someone being told the truth is not the truth. With evidence. And of course she doesn't want to believe Will is right-- nobody would! The idea that your friend is secretly a cannibalistic serial killer? Unthinkable!

But she eventually learns the truth, and Hannibal knows she isn't going to fall for that trick again.

One day I'm dying to write a plot where Hannibal, while in the Baltimore State Hospital For The Criminally Insane, finds out that the Verger baby isn't Mason's. I can think of a few different ways this could go, and it's so delightfully messy and complicated. ( His name is Simon, and his half-finished bio is here, if anyone wants to take a peek! )

So yes! My ship for Alana is Hannibal... Or Hannibal and Will, because who doesn't like a nice, happy, murderous throuple?

This glorious artefact is covered in siltstone cabochans, images of the noble kenaf plants in jet, and images pertaining to the ascension to the throne of Queen Stukos Squeezelantern in the year seventy nine! I am uncertain if it wouldn't do dreadful harm to the one to make the first artifact of our fortress i would be dearly tempted to offer this to our queen as tribute, but now i must find a way to memorialize it appropriately.
