from a doylist perspective, do you think grrm genuinely hates bittersteel and the brackens?

i think he just does it for fun. he obviously knows which house are the "good" guys and on the "right" side of history most of the time (and also as a clue for or to wink at the reader) but he also likes to subvert these expectations, like having bloodraven being the biggest war criminal in westeros and this shady entity trying to kill bran, but also having the brackens join robb or the tragic fate of bethany bracken.

in my opinion the bracken vs blackwood feud has never been about good or evil or right and wrong and i think the show did a good thing in showing it with the battle of the burning mill being this nonsense fight about an issue already solved years before or willem blackwood using daemon's words to just do what he wanted in bracken lands. it was not a "brackens are the good guys" more like blackwoods are capable of atrocities too.

i know the point of the feud is that nobody remembers what started it and these guys are just following "tradition" and it's not because i'm biased but i like to think that if germ ever does reveal the cause of the feud the brackens are going to be the first wronged party. especially because of his liking of subverting expectations. it'd definitely be a shocker.

AEGOR RIVERS!!! i fear he's so unpopular people might think i'm doing a bit but i actually like him so much. he's even unpopular IN THE STORY... no bless yous for giacomo ever. sistergf left him for his other brother, had to raise all his nephews and niecewife in exile, one of those nephews fucked it up so much he ruined for the rest of them..... i like him because while he has such a black reputation in universe a lot of his actions don't seen to be as that evil?? i mean the dichotomy is so interesting because in any other universe he would just be maekar, one of the good guys, except he decided to side with daemon, putting himself in opposition and keep the rebellions going, crowning nephew after nephew out of love for his brother. he could've crowned himself, he had the army! but he didn't. also he's so hot. number one hater, homophobic, misogynist, a bracken, probably a control freak....

OK. i guess 🙄 redgrass field thinking. kind of obsessed with aegor taking blackfyre from one of the dead twins, seeing daemon pierced by arrows holding the other dead twin. like his world falling apart because he put everything on daemon winning and not even fireball's death the night before dampened anything. and then he takes the sword and goes on a murder spree and MEETS daemon's killer. just so sexy to think he might not have finished bloodraven (considering he was less able with a sword) because he was thinking of daemon jr and the rest of the family. like. good guardian dog keeping the family safe and the next king safe and losing his brother and nephews and the rebel support in one fell swoop.

tyrosh. remember that we talked about daemon i having a very solid court with the minting of blackfyre coins and a private space of his own in the manse daeron gave him, well, i wonder if the plan to run to tyrosh was already settled? well-in-case-we-die-we-do-this. i mean they /must/ have had a plan b but they seemed so sure about the rebellion and winning......how much aegor must have hated camping in rohanne's dad's couch like you said 😭 and forming the golden company so fast to gain independence and funds separated from others like he must have hated the court's pity after barba leaving and bethany getting beheaded.
