“I’m glad that they seem to be adjusting well. Fury tells me that they’re working on restoring Tarnax’s atmosphere, so hopefully they won’t have to stay in New Asgard for too much longer,” Carol tightens her fists at her side, tension in her body clear as she stands in front of Valkyrie’s desk.
“Oh, no worries. Having them is no bother at all. Though I’m sure they’re eager to get off Earth,” Valkyrie hums as she swirls her dagger.
Carol insisted on coming down after fixing Hala’s sun to check on things, something that didn’t surprise Valkyrie in the slightest. What did surprise her was her sudden costume change. Her suit was different. Less saturated, emblem bigger on her chest. Valkyrie didn’t like it. It didn’t feel like the Captain Marvel image that she’d grown used to.
Plus, this one’s torn in places. Cheaply made. Not fitting for a hero who flies into suns.
Carol is rambling on about something to do with one of the Skrull families as Valkyrie analyzes this new suit. It does hug her hips nicely. Form fitting around the waist that she’s grabbed and pulled against her many times before.
“What’s with the new get-up?”
“What?” Carol’s train of thought comes to a screeching halt.
“This,” Valkyrie points her dagger at Carol. “Different suit.”
Carol looks down at her suit. Valkyrie holds back a chuckle at how she almost looks surprised by what she’s wearing. “Oh! I got a new one.”
“Clearly,” Valkyrie laughs. “Come closer, I wanna see it.”
Carol scrunches up her brows in confusion at Valkyrie’s sudden interest, but chalks it up to that warrior mentality. That woman loves some good battle armor. She walks around the desk to stand in front of Valkyrie, awkwardly holding still as she inspects the suit, running her hands over the material and poking a finger through one of the tears that ripped during the fight with Dar-Benn.
“Seems cheap, doesn’t it?” Valkyrie sneers. “My armory could make you something ten times as sturdy. Where’d you get this shit suit from?”
“It’s not shit,” Carol huffs. Valkyrie raises an eyebrow at her and pulls her finger down, making the rip bigger. “Hey!”
“Why aren’t you answering me, hm?” Valkyrie knows damn well where this suit came from, she could tell from the moment she touched it. She just wants Carol to say it.
“Aladna. Prince Yan--”
“Oh, a gift from your husband.”
Before Carol knows it, she’s being tugged flush against Valkyrie. From her standing position, she towers over her even more than she usually does, but she gulps because she knows who’s in control here.
Valkyrie knows that Prince Yan is no more than a friend to Carol, but both of them know just how much the idea of Carol being technically married makes Valkyrie’s jealousy blaze.
Especially when she comes around with the gifts he’s given her.
“Val--”
“You know, I’m surprised it looks so dull, given that Aladna’s traditional clothing has more colors than a pride parade.” Valkyrie grips Carol’s waist, fingers digging into her sides. It would hurt if Carol didn’t have super endurance. But it’s enough to make the message clear.
“It’s fine, I’ll probably go back to my old one anyway.” Carol refuses to make eye contact with her. She can’t let her know how much this is affecting her right now.
But gods.
It took Carol a long time to find someone who could make her feel this way. Someone who could make her feel safe rather than terrified of giving in to their control, their dominance.
It just came so naturally to Valkyrie. Carol supposes that’s why she can’t stay away, comes running back when her thoughts get too much for her to bear and she just needs them shut off.
Like now.
“Don’t look away from me,” Valkyrie says firmly. Carol bites her lip and meets her gaze again. “Good girl. Bend over the desk.”
Carol briefly considers asking why, but at the moment she can’t bring herself to fight Valkyrie’s little game. She moves some stuff out of the way and bends over the desk. She does her best to steady her breathing as she feels Valkyrie’s hands run up the back of her thighs.
“You’d think that Prince Yan would give his princess a sturdier suit. You know, I bet I could just…”
Riiiiiiiip.
 “Valkyrie!”
Valkyrie laughs, giving Carol’s ass a slap as she admires what she’s done. Just as Valkyrie suspected, she was able to poke into one of the tears and fully rip a hole right through the crotch of Carol’s suit. Her cunt is exposed, the pale skin of her ass peeking through the top of the tears as well. Valkyrie steps forward, hips flush against Carol’s ass.
“Feel that, princess?” Carol groans. “Use your words.”
“Yes, sir.” Carol gasps as Valkyrie grinds the bulge of her strap into her exposed ass. She tries hiding her face to conceal how flustered she is, but Valkyrie won’t tolerate that. She’s tugged up by her hair, Valkyrie’s lips brushing against her cheek as she speaks lowly to her.
“Does your husband ever do this for you?” Valkyrie doesn’t expect a response, just chuckling at Carol’s whines. “Does he know what a needy girl you are?”
“No, sir.” Valkyrie unbuckles her belt, pulling out her strap and nudging the tip between Carol’s already damp folds. Carol shudders, pushing her hips back against the sensation.
“Greedy, greedy thing. Already trying to fuck yourself on my cock.” Valkyrie stands up straighter, but doesn’t release her grip on Carol’s hair, knowing the stinging in her scalp makes Carol as compliant as can be. “You’re getting spoiled, princess. Gonna have to ask nicely for what you want.”
“Please,” Carol asks softly, voice pitched high as Valkyrie rubs her clit with her strap. “Please, sir. Please fuck me.”
“Hmm,” Valkyrie releases Carol’s hair and runs her hand down her back, feeling the strong muscles of her back quiver under her touch. “Dunno, that’s not very convincing if you ask me.”
“Please, daddy, I need you to fuck me!”
Valkyrie laughs and sinks her cock into Carol’s weeping pussy. Carol lets out a guttural moan, only overshadowed by the wet noises her cunt makes as Valkyrie pounds deep into her. She grips Carol’s hips, pulling her back against her to meet her rough thrusts.
She loves having Carol like this. The all-powerful Captain Marvel, destroyer of armies and savior of the universe begging for her tight pussy to be ruined by her, shivering under her praise and degradation, weeping in her arms after she’s been thoroughly fucked.
Carol must have been particularly pent up today, because it doesn’t take much longer for her to be on the edge, a few strokes of Valkyrie’s fingers over her clit and some whispered praises of “Good princess, let go for me. I’ve got you” send her into a shaking mess as she comes.
She mumbles something incoherent as Valkyrie flips her over, pulling her up to curl against her chest. “What was that, baby? Can’t hear you when you’re mumbling.”
“Thank you,” Carol sighs.
Valkyrie smiles softly, kissing Carol on the tip of her nose and rubbing her back. “You that tired after one round?”
“Not tired, just…tired.”
“Ah, yeah. That really cleared things up.”
“Shut up.”

“Daryl, she needs you.” Carol implored, blocking the infirmary exit. The archer tried to side-step but the woman just knew him too well and moved with him.
“Damnit, move!” Daryl all but roared at his best friend. He knew she meant well, he did. But he had to stop them. He couldn’t let them hurt anyone else. He’d failed enough by allowing them to get to you. It was eating him alive. He didn’t know how else to deal with the guilt. It was fueling his rage like gasoline on a fire.
“You’re not thinking straight!”
“M’thinkin’ jus’ fine! Move, Carol!”
“You can’t go out there like this!”
“I can’ believe this! Ya saw wha’ they did ta ‘er!”
“And that’s why you need to stay!”
“Nah, tha’s why I gotta—”
“Daryl.” Your voice was low, strained. It was weak. But he heard it. Of course he heard it. The archer didn’t give Carol a second glance when he crossed the space to you in two long strides. The silver-haired woman walked behind him with her arms crossed, eyes rolled. She knew all it would take was your specific persuasion to calm Daryl down. She was only hoping to hold him off long enough for you to awaken.
“Hey, m’right here.” He sat down on the edge of your bed in the infirmary, his hip pressed against yours. You looked so small, fragile in the large bed. Pale and bruised with stitched lacerations and butterfly sutures. “Yer gon’ be okay, ya hear me?”
Your smile was tired and small but it was genuine. “I know I am.” You opened your hand and he took it immediately, pressing his lips to your busted knuckles. “I know I am because you’ll be here to protect me, won’t you?” You blinked slowly and watched his expression fall.
“Ya know I gotta—”
“You don’t gotta do anything.” He looked like he might start to argue so you began to sit up, wincing with an arm around your middle to brace your broken ribs. Daryl was all don’ do that and stay still but you showed him what it felt like for your pleas to be ignored. Finally upright, you panted while Carol rushed to lift the head of the bed for you. You could breathe easier sitting up. You could also look your husband in the eye properly. “All you need to do is be here with me until a plan can be made.”
Carol smirked, seeing the very moment Daryl’s resolve began to crumble. When he glanced at her, most likely for backup he knew he’d never get, she was quick to turn her head, her smile hidden behind her hand.
He sighed, deeply but not yet resigned. “I can’ jus’—”
“Stay.” You whispered, bringing the hand that was still holding yours to your cheek. “Stay. Please.”
And that was that.
Carol closed the door behind her just as Daryl situated himself on the bed with you so you could settle against his chest. When it came to Daryl Dixon, there was nothing anyone could say or do once he had set his mind on something. Except she now had a secret weapon.
You.

help, my boyfriend has no sex drive! (5)
Pairing: Kenma x reader (f)
Contents: smut; established relationship; feminization, "femboy", heavy praise kink (Kenma); rough sex; creampie; Christmas themes
Words: 3.4k
Part 1 || Part 2 || Part 3 || Part 4
“But as long as you’d love me so—
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snoooow”
Kenma tries not to visibly cringe at the cheery music as he emerges from his office, finally finished with his obligatory three-hour “Christmas special” stream.
As you had been for the past month, you’re softly singing along to some Christmas carol playing from your shitty laptop speaker. You had busied yourself with reorganizing the presents under the full-sized tree—something you had insisted on buying for the apartment.
Kenma had little more interest in most holidays than the “free day from school” perks. But as he watches you scurry around your shared living room wearing candy cane-themed stockings, an oversized ugly Christmas sweater, and a hundred-yen-store Santa hat, Kenma is thankful you had expressed your desire to celebrate with him. He will gladly participate in anything that makes you this innocently cheerful.
Your background music is abruptly cut short and you frown when you realize your laptop has just died again. But the disappointment is cut short when you notice Kenma, standing awkwardly by the couch in the dark Christmas sweater you had insisted he wear for his stream.
“KenKen—your stream is over?”
Kenma smiles softly at how eager you look, eyes practically sparkling.
“Yeah, I’m free now. You wanted to open presents, right?”
You nod quickly, guiding him to the couch and leaving only to retrieve a cup of hot cocoa—extra whipped cream—and a slice of homemade apple pie, placing them both in front of him on the coffee table. He thanks you quietly, predictably digging into the apple pie first.
“So I think we should start with your family’s gifts first,” you begin, already passing him a small stack of presents, all wrapped in identical green and red paper.
Tumblr media
After nearly half an hour you two had finally worked your way through nearly all of the presents. Most were the typical things–an abhorrent amount of socks and pajamas from your families, Kenma’s mother gifting both of you very cringey matching couple sets with any video game character she saw. You had to try very hard not to laugh at Kenma’s face when you opened a matching Kirby and Jigglypuff sweater set with a handwritten heart note.
“Aww, don’t pout KenKen, your mom was just being thoughtful.” “They’re not even in the same series.”
A few gifts had been surprising–namely Kuroo’s cat ear headphones—to which Kenma promptly sent a text telling Kuroo to never buy him Christmas gift ever again— and even a signed pro jersey from Hinata. Even if he didn’t voice it, you noticed how touched Kenma seemed by the gesture and you made a mental note to buy something to display it in the apartment. A few gifts were even from Kenma’s fans, sending various game merchandise, snacks from their country, and even fan art of the two of you.
Finally, the last remaining gifts were the ones you made for each other. You didn’t want to pressure Kenma to buy you anything fancy–and you also couldn’t afford to reciprocate with anything fancy, so you set a strict budget.
Kenma was unexpectedly good at keeping secrets so you weren’t sure what he had gotten you–probably a game he wanted you to play together but the box was unexpectedly big—
Regardless, you knew what you got him , and it was something you had been thinking about for months. Needless to say, you were eager for him to open it.
“Who should go firs—”
“I’ll go!”
Kenma raises a brow but complies as you all but shove your gift into his hands. The outside is unassuming—a flat package wrapped in red paper with a holographic silver stick-on bow in the center. Somehow, he feels vaguely uneasy.
Cautiously, Kenma begins unwrapping the gift. You practically vibrate with excitement in your seat, eagerly watching as his thin fingers peel away the final layers of colorful paper.
Finally, your present reveals itself, soft nylon fabric in a bright red shade. Kenma seems confused, unsure of what exactly he is looking at until he shifts and the fabric unravels into two long strips.
“Ta-daa,” you cheer, “your very own pair of thigh-high stockings!”
Kenma looks horrified.
“This is a joke,” Kenma states, sounding like he’s trying to convince himself just as much as you.
“What do you mean? Don’t you like them? Look, they’re even Christmas-themed!”
You guide his hands over to the top of the socks where a large red ribbon sits. Two short red strings dangle the ribbon with a small, fuzzy white ball at the end each. You make him squeeze the soft ball for good measure. His expression doesn’t change.
“Why would you buy me these? You wasted actual, real-life money for this,” Kenma bemoans.
“Didn’t your fans suggest something like this before? I think they called them programmer socks—”
“ Oh my god please stop talking.”
Kenma lets out a long, suffering groan as you eye him with an absolute shit-eating grin.
It’s fine, he thinks. You wanted to be a little shit like Kuroo but it was just a prank. He could probably Venmo back the money you wasted on this and never have to think of this situation ever again. He’ll toss them in the back of the closet next to those cat ear headphones Kuroo bought him.
He is proven wrong when you nudge his shin with your own stocking-clad toes and give him an expectant look.
“Well?”
“What?”
“Aren’t you going to try them on?”
Kenma’s brain very obviously fries and you have to resist the urge to laugh at his expression.
“C’mon, I spent actual, real-life money on these," you tease, throwing his words back at him, "I wanna see you wear them at least once!”
“You have to be joking,” he all but whines.
Your excited expression tells him you are very much not joking. Kenma considers refusing more firmly. He knows you genuinely care about him and would never push him to do something he was uncomfortable with—or at least so long as it wouldn’t actually kill him.
But your eyes are wide and practically sparkling as you look at him expectantly with that cute little grin–the crippling humiliation that will likely haunt him every night for the rest of his life is nothing compared to your happiness. Kenma sighs deeply and you know you’ve won.
He ignores your excited squeals as he stands up and shuffles towards the bathroom in something akin to a walk of shame.
Tumblr media
As Kenma stares at his own lithe form in the mirror he’s positive that he has never felt so mortified in his whole life. Not when he accidentally set a ball into Lev’s face during a match in high school. Not when he missed his ult in a team fight and cost his team the ranked match in League. Not even when he came so hard he nearly passed out while getting his dick sucked during a live stream.
Kenma can barely even recognize himself in the mirror, eyes flitting from his familiar golden gaze down to his oversized black and white Nightmare Before Christmas sweater and, finally, to his thin legs wrapped in an inappropriately bright red pair of thigh-high socks.
Somehow, the stockings feel even more exposing than if he were just naked. He feels like some cheap, poorly drawn femboy character in a hentai. One of his first thoughts was they don’t look nearly as appealing on him as they do on you. His legs are too lanky–straight and lean from years of volleyball but missing the curve of healthy fat yours have. His face heats up as he visualizes your thighs currently clad in your own pair of red and white striped stockings.
“KenKen are you ready yet? You’re taking foreeeeever!”
His heart rate picks up and he tries to remind himself it's just you, the person who makes him feel safest. He’s going to go out there, you’re going to see how cringe he looks, then you'll both laugh and never talk about this again.
He takes a deep breath and opens the door, immediately meeting your gaze as you sit on the couch where he left you. Breath bated, he watches as your eyes dart down his body, darting around his lower half with your mouth agape. He tries his best not to squirm under your stare.
“Fuck, Ken,” you chuckle breathily, “you look amazing.”
Kenma’s breath hitches, certainly not expecting that type of response. As you continue to take him in he realizes your gaze looks almost hungry, like you’re ready to devour him–shit, are you seriously into this?
He finds his answer in the way you motion him over, helpless in how his body obeys before he can even process the silent request. You reach out hesitantly, fingertips so close to his thighs he can feel your body heat even through the thin fabric. You glance up at him, asking permission, and he’s nodding immediately, desperate for your touch.
Your fingers land near his left knee, trailing up slowly and making his whole body tremble lightly. When your fingertips catch on the hem of the stockings he nearly gasps and then you're brushing his soft skin directly, only stopping when you reach the edge of the sweater that’s just barely covering his rapidly hardening cock.
“You’re so pretty,” you praise, "my pretty boy."
Kenma makes a choked sound, surprised and mildly offended but also awfully turned on to hear any form of praise from your lips. No, he wants to argue, you’re the pretty one –but you look up at him, so pleased, that he can’t remember how to speak.
“And now we match,” you sing, tone innocent as you raise your leg between his own. His eyes follow, nearly hypnotized by the contrast between your red-and-white stockings against his red ones before your clothed shin brushes against his crotch in a way that is anything but innocent. He has to grab the back of the couch near your head to keep his knees from buckling as he groans.
You seem to take some form of pity on him because you let up on his crotch with a giggle, making room for him to sit down beside you and catch his breath. Even when you let him rest your attention never strays from the item of clothing, hand idly stroking his thigh while you continue to drink in the sight of his pale skin contrasting with the scarlet cloth.
“Do you really like it that much,” he asks, almost hesitant.
He’s surprised at how sheepish you become, moving your hand away as your face slightly flushes.
“Um–yeah. I know it’s kinda weird, sorry, you just look really pretty sometimes.”
Kenma frowns slightly and takes your hand back, returning it to his thigh with his own on top of yours. The action was meant to reassure you but it felt too bold and he avoids eye contact as he speaks.
“You don’t have to apologize, I don’t hate it…”
He sees the way you perk up, practically beaming, from the corner of his eye and is quick to clarify less you try to buy him a pair of panties or something next year.
“It’s not my thing—I prefer seeing you in cute clothes…but I can try things like this if it makes you this happy.”
“Aww, KenKen, that’s so sweet!”
Kenma huffs, breath nearly knocked out of him when you launch yourself into his chest, planting noisy kisses all over his face. He tries his best to scowl but he’s pretty sure he’s failing by the way you giggle at his expression. Your Santa hat gets knocked off in the commotion but neither of you care. Kenma even takes the opportunity to bury his fingers in your messy hair as your kisses finally focus on his lips.
Eventually, the kisses deepen, morphing from quick pecks to slow and open-mouthed. Your tongue invades his mouth, gravity giving you a clear advantage as you take charge of this kiss. But not one to easily accept defeat, Kenma takes the opportunity to grab a handful of your ass in a way that has you gasping in surprise. You start to grind on him, both of you letting out soft sounds between kisses.
It’s you who pulls away first, making Kenma softly whine in protest, gaze hazy as he blinks up at you in question.
“Wanna ride you,” you explain simply.
Kenma hisses out his approval and obediently waits as you pull down your lounge shorts. You yank them down your legs and fling them across the living room with a little too much force, accidentally hitting the Christmas tree. You laugh at the sight of your fuzzy white shorts hanging on the tree like some soft of kinky Christmas ornament but Kenma is quick to redirect your attention by pulling you back down for another kiss.
He grips your ass again, this time bare, and moves his fingers to prepare you for his dick but—
He abruptly stops and pulls away from the kiss in shock.
“You’re already this wet?” His expression looks genuinely surprised and you can’t help but giggle.
“I told you, you look really pretty.”
Kenma groans, not sure if he’s annoyed or turned on but his cock throbs all the same. You pull up the bottom half of his sweater to reach his black boxers. He’s so hard that it's almost difficult to get them off but he helps you pull them down just enough to free his leaking cock. It takes a moment to properly position yourself from this new angle, hindered by your bulky sweater and the headrest of the couch digging into your side but you manage to guide his leaky head to your drenched hole and ease down.
You both groan as he breaches your cunt, your wetness making the slide smooth even as you reach his thick base.
“F-fuck, Ken, you always feel so good,” you moan.
The praise feels like a punch to the gut and he’s thankful he’s already lying down so he can’t embarrass himself further by losing his balance. He’s coming to realize even if feminization isn’t his thing, praise might be. He thinks he'd do just about anything if it pleased you—if it made you look down at him with those shiny eyes and call him your good boy—fuck. Kenma has to force himself back to reality before he makes himself cum too quickly just by his own fantasies.
You readjust your weight, leaning back and using his bent knees as leverage. Your fingers dig into the fabric of his stockings as you begin to move, raising to his tip before dropping your whole weight down. It feels good—mind-numbingly so—but he finds it looks even better. The angle you put yourself into gives him an unobstructed view of your face–eyes pinched closed and reddened lips open in pleasure, your breasts–soft and bouncing with every movement–and, best of all, your tight hole sucking him in with every uptake.
He can’t tear his eyes away from where the two of you are connected. A creamy white ring is quickly forming at the base of his cock from how soaked you are, thin strings sticking to your pussy like webs. Framing it all are your thick thighs, muscles straining with your movements and squeezed by those god damned red-and-white striped thigh highs.
Fuck, he wishes he could record this.
He has apparently said that aloud on accident because now you’re grinning down at him conspiratorially.
“Y-yeah?” you stutter out, “you wanna make a movie with me?”
Kenma doesn’t verbally answer but he doesn’t need to. Instead, he’s gripping your hips and guiding your pace, making you bounce on his cock faster while his own hips start to meet your thrusts.
It has only been a few minutes but it's becoming clear your stamina is far from athletic. Your thighs burn and your pace stumbles but Kenma is quick to take advantage of the situation, using a strength you didn’t know he was capable of to roll you over and push you face down.
“Kenma, wh—oh!”
Any dissent you had intended to make is abruptly cut off when your boyfriend, one knee digging into the couch for leverage, feeds his length back into your greedy hole and sets a pace that has you nearly screaming. His hips snap into you, hard, and you scramble to find something to hold on to. One hand finds the armrest of the couch near your head, nails nearly tearing into the fabric, while the other ends up behind you, digging into his thigh as he rams his hips into you. You’re drooling as you manage to stutter out a barely coherent statement through your moans.
“K-Ken, so h-hard, fuck—”
“Yeah,” He replies, sounding breathless but not nearly as wrecked as you. You curse his retired high school athlete stamina.
“Am I still your pretty boy?”
The question momentarily shocks you. You aren’t sure what response he’s looking for but you answer honestly, too fucked out to ponder on it.
“Y-yesyesyes, the prettiest! ”
“You like getting fucked by your pretty boy?”
“Yeeeess, I l-love it—oh god—”
One hand reaches up to grip your hair, tugging your hair in a way you aren’t sure is punishment or a reward. You cry out all the same, cunt squeezing him for dear life as he hits something deep deep deep inside of you. You’re fairly certain you’ve never been fucked this hard in your life. The sweet, no-sex-drive-having boyfriend trope becomes little more than a pipe dream as his hips smack into your ass without reprieve.
“‘m g-gonna cum,” you warn.
Kenma’s grip on your hip tightens and he adjusts his angle to hit the spot he knows makes your toes curl and your pitch turns airy. The nail in the coffin comes when he releases your hair, but only to start rubbing your clit, remembering your favorite rhythm from the time he watched you masturbate.
Expectedly, you cum, toes curling and squeals reaching a pitch you think might cause your boyfriend hearing damage. Your whole body seizes with your orgasm, cunt spasming and thighs squeezing shit as you please for him to stop, go harder–you aren’t sure.
Kenma forces you to ride through it, fucking you even as your hips stutter violently and never letting up on your pulsating nub. It's only when you're nearing tears from the overstimulation that Kenma stops, moaning sweetly as his own orgasm overtakes him. He collapses against you in exhaustion as warmth fills you from deep inside, making a mess on your thighs as it gushes out between you.
“Mm, y’r heavyyy,” you complain sleepily.
Kenma grunts something in response but doesn’t bother moving. In fact, he seems to make himself more comfortable by moving his hands to find your own. He slips his long fingers in the spaces between your own, locking your hands together. Your heart swells at the action, constantly reminded how much this boy loves you even when he doesn't vocalize it very often.
You allow him a few more moments of peace, listening to his harsh pants die down into something more calm before you speak again.
“By the way, what was my present?”
Kenma stiffens against you, having completely forgotten about Christmas altogether. Quickly, he pulls away from you and the loss of warmth almost makes you regret saying anything. On shaky legs, Kenma shuffles over to the forgotten box, wrapped in royal blue paper and topped with a pretty gold ribbon. He comes back to the couch, gingerly helping you sit up before placing the box on your lap.
You’re immediately surprised by the hefty weight of the box and grow curious as you tear at the paper. Within seconds, the logo and picture on the box become clear, making you gasp in shock.
“Kenmaaaa,” you whine, trying not to tear up as you pout at him.
To his credit, Kenma looks honestly guilty as he avoids your eyes.
“We set a twenty-thousand-yen spending limit, ” you remind him.
“I know but—this is basically a necessity. Your old one was going to die any day now,” Kenma reasons, helping you pull out the shiny new laptop –in rose gold no less.
“And it's a gaming laptop–that means you can play with me more so it’s basically a gift for me more than you,” he continues.
You know he’s absolutely pulling excuses out of his ass but you can’t help the rush of affection at how much Kenma wants to spoil you. He always buys you the things you want, even when you insist on not wanting to take advantage of him as a wealthy streamer and businessman. He usually comes up with some excuse, I was going to buy one anyway so we can share or I have too much money this month, taxes will be a hassle if I don’t spend it.
But he is right–your old laptop was on its last leg and every time you opened a Word document for school you had to pray it wouldn’t crash before you could save your draft.
You softly smile as you trace the box with a finger, elated that he even remembered which color you wanted. He grins at how pleased you clearly are, even if you won’t say it.
“Besides,” his grin suddenly turns sly as he places a hand on the swell of your hip, “I heard the webcam is really great for recording movies.”

Merry Christmas
Tumblr media
Summary: It’s the most wonderful time of the year. You and Natasha are off to the annual Stark Christmas Party. Little does the team know that a special surprise awaits them.
Genre: Fluff
Pairings: Natasha x reader, Avengers x reader (platonic).
Word Count: 2.7k
Warnings: None
A/N: This is part 2 to Happy Thanksgiving! I recommend reading it first, but it can be read as a stand-alone story as well. I hope you enjoy!
“Be down in a minute, malyshka!” Natasha called from your bedroom.
You were standing in the kitchen eating peanut butter out of the jar topped with chocolate sauce. A “homemade Reese’s” you dubbed it. Your first pregnancy craving that had Nat popping down to the corner grocery store at 2 am for the dynamic duo of ingredients.
“No worries, love!” Already dressed for Tony’s annual Christmas party at the compound. Clad in a green Sequin-Lace Halter Twist-Neck Jumpsuit, your baby bump beginning to show.
The click of Natasha’s high heels signaled her arrival a few moments later in a sleek long-sleeved red scoop-back midi dress that hugged her in all the right places.
“Wow, Nat. You look beautiful. Red is most definitely your color.”
“So you prefer it over the black,” she smirked as she put on her earrings.
“I didn’t say that now, did I,” with a wink.
“The baby enjoying its homemade Reese’s?” grabbing her clutch.
“Very much! I was thinking,” Putting away the chocolate and peanut butter. “Tomorrow we could make fudge!”
“Ah, because the baby has such a sweet tooth?”
“Yes,” you giggled.
“Well, whatever the baby wants, I suppose,” wrapping her arms around you in a loving embrace before leaning down and kissing your stomach.
“You ready to drop the baby bombshell tonight?” Patting the top of Nat’s head.
“Yes, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous,” sighing as she stood up. These are the same people who freaked out when they found out Clint had a family. How are they going to handle this?”
“Like the amazing aunts and uncles they were meant to be,” grabbing Natasha’s hand. “Plus, I think announcing it with the Christmas crackers is a cute idea.”
“I hope so,” placing a soft kiss against your lips.
“Frankly, I’m more surprised Yelena hasn’t blabbed yet.”
“Oh, that’s because I warned her if she told anyone I would make her run with me every morning at 5 am until the baby is born.”
“Well played,” high-fiving your wife.
“Thank you,” she smiled. “Now come on, let’s go get our holiday cheer on.”
*^~^*
The drive to the compound was even more beautiful during the holidays. A light snow fell as you passed house after house dressed in beautiful Christmas lights. Natasha placed her right hand on the center console. You softly intertwined your fingers with hers and placed a soft kiss to the back of her hand.
You are greeted by a rush of warm air upon entering the compound lobby. Natasha shook the delicate snowflakes out of your hair and off your coat. You both step onto the elevator and are welcomed by the soothing voice of FRIDAY.
“Merry Christmas, ladies. Welcome to the annual Stark Christmas party.”
“Merry Christmas, FRIDAY. How’s the party so far?” You asked as the hum the elevator carried you up to living quarters.
“The party is in full swing. Mr. Stark is currently treating guests to a medley of Christmas carols.
“Of course he is,” you giggled.
“You know, he only plays that baby grand piano when he gets a bit tipsy,” Nat said. “When we got home from our month-long undercover mission in Romania, he celebrated on the jet and then made us all listen to his rendition of Dancing Queen.”
“Aww, and I missed it!” Feigning disappointment.
The elevator dinged and the doors opened to joyous noise and laughter. An abundance of greens, reds, gold, and silver flashing here and there, adding opulence and brightness. Classic poinsettias tied in tradition, and shiny bows and foiled paper glistened under the 12-foot tall Noble Fir Christmas tree, inviting their recipients to sneak one open before the actual day.
“Hey, the Romanoff’s are finally here!” Clint exclaimed as his kids rushed over to both of you.
Nate jumped into your wife’s arms as you hugged Lila and Cooper. It seemed like every time you saw the Barton kids they had grown a bit more. It was thanks to Banner and Cho that you were carrying a child that would be half yours and half Natasha’s. Looking at Clint and Laura’s kids and how they resembled their parents, you couldn’t wait to see what features your little plum would inherit from each of you.
“How’s my little namesake?” Kissing Nathaniel’s cheek. Have you been practicing the punch and kick combinations I taught you?”
“Practicing the what?” Laura asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Oh, nothing,” Natasha smirked as Nate giggled.
“You two look great, I love the green and red thing you’ve got going on,” Clint said.
“Thank you. Lovely Christmas sweater by the way. I especially love Rudolph’s glowing nose.” you pointed.
“Hey, the Barton’s are the cream of the crop when it comes to ugly Christmas sweaters.”
“Clearly,” Nat teased.
“I’ll take your coats,” Cooper offered.
“Why, thank you. What a gentleman,” you winked at Laura as you handed him yours and Natasha’s pea coats.
You scanned the room and noticed Wanda putting the finishing touches on trays of Christmas cookies. You put a hand on Nat’s shoulder and motioned toward the kitchen. She gave you a quick nod as you meandered over to the counter.
“Wanda, Wanda, Wanda… what do we have here?”
“Y/N! It’s so good to see you,” wrapping you in one of her signature hugs that you loved so much. “This is my parents’ Christmas cookie recipe,” she proudly declared. “I convinced Tony and Pepper to let me handle the desserts this year. So, we’ve got cookies, the Viennese torte is in the fridge and the pumpkin pie is cooling.”
“Wow, you have been busy,” you smiled. “Anything I can do to help?”
“Yes, you can take a cookie and go mingle. I’ll be done in a few minutes,” handing you a charming little cookie decorated like Santa. You took a bite and couldn’t believe it. It was the best cookie you had ever tasted.
“Mhmm, Wanda! This is amazing.”
“That is why I will always vouch for homemade over store bought goodies. Now seriously, go mingle,” shooing you away.
You turned back around to see your wife sitting by the fireplace talking to Steve, champagne in hand. As you started to across the room you were intercepted by a festively-dressed Kate and Lucky.
“Y/N! Hey, oh my gosh, I haven’t seen you in so long! How are you?”
“I’m good! I see you and Lucky are enjoying the party,” petting the Golden Retriever.
“Absolutely, say hello to Santa Paws and Mrs. Claus!” Kate exclaimed. Unfortunately, we’ve lost Yelena. She’s our elf,” glancing around the room.
“Wait, Yelena’s dressed as an elf?” Eyes wide. “Oh, that’s fantastic.”
“Yeah, if you see her will you send her our way? We’re supposed to be taking the photo for our holiday card tonight.”
“Nothing would make me happier,” you smirked with a hand on Kate’s shoulder.
You bid the young archer and pooch farewell and rejoined your wife.
“Hey, deka,” Wrapping her arm around your waste.
“Y/N, I was just telling your wife that she needs to find her holiday spirit and come Christmas caroling with us next week,” Steve said.
“Natasha singing? I’m not sure that would be good for community morale,” you joked
“Says the woman who performs one woman tributes to Harry Styles in the shower?” Nat giggled.
“Hey, my rendition of Sign of the Times is highly praised, I’ll have you know.”
Tony and Pepper join your little huddle with Morgan in tow.
“Romanoffs! You have to try this Hot Buttered Rum,” Tony remarked.
“Oh, I love Hot Buttered Rum, but I think I’ll stick with sparkling cider tonight,” you said “Nat would probably love some though, right, love?”
“Sure,” grabbing the glass from Tony’s hand as Steve looked back at you curiously.
You peered down at Morgan who was sitting on the ottoman next to the fireplace. Ever since you found out you were pregnant you were drawn to children like never before.
“Hi, sweetheart! You look so pretty tonight,” kneeling down to the little girl’s level.
“Thank you, Aunt Y/N,” she grinned.
“Are you excited for Christmas? You are clearly at the top of Santa’s nice list this year.”
“Really?!” Morgan squealed.
“Oh, absolutely, I have a feeling the man in red is going to be very good to you this year,” you winked.
“Did you hear that Daddy? Aunt Y/N said that I’m on the top of the nice list!”
“I sure did, squirt. I didn’t realize Aunt Y/N was so tight with St. Nick,” eyeing you coyly.
“Oh yeah, we’re on a first name basis. I’m surprised you’re not?” Smirking at the billionaire. You loved Tony like a brother, but you enjoyed giving him crap.
“Trust me, Mrs. Romanoff, I’m much closer to Santa than you are.”
“Really, do you have a direct line to the North Pole?”
“Are you having milk and cookies flown in from Holland? Because you know those are his favorite,” raising an eyebrow at you.
“Ooookay, that’s enough,” your wife placing hands on your shoulders from behind. “You both know Santa. You both have giant egos. Merry Christmas,” Nat mocked. Come on Tony, let’s go grab some hors d'oeuvrs for our better halves. I’ll be right back, detka,” leading the billionaire toward the kitchen.
You couldn’t help but admire Natasha as she walked away. Looking back over her shoulder, she smiled at you with all the love in the world. You just about melted right there in front of the fireplace. Snapping out of your love daze, you noticed Pepper grinning at you.
“What?”
“Oh, nothing. I just can’t help but notice how glowing you look tonight,” as Morgan pulled her away towards Clint’s kids and Steve strolled away to join Bucky in conversation with Rhodes.
“Pssst… Pssst!”
You turned around just as a styrofoam snowball was about to hit you in face. You caught it in one swift motion.
“Nice catch,” a Russian voice said.
“Yelena, where are you?” Glancing around not seeing your sister-in-law.
“Over here,” poking her head out from the behind the seven-foot snowman next to the pool table.
“Oh, now don’t you look adorable as an elf,” you giggled.
“If you weren’t pregnant with my niece or nephew you would be hanging upside down from the rafters right now.”
“You know Kate and Lucky are looking for you, right?”
“Why do you think I’m hiding behind the giant snowman? Kate Bishop forced me to dress in this saccharin American Christmas costume and now she wants photographic evidence of it.”
“Because she loves you, silly,” your arms crossed over your chest.
“Detka, it’s time for dinner. Let’s go—“Natasha stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of her sister. “Oh my God,” she burst into laughter.
“Tred carefully, sestra,” Yelena threatened.
“No, I love it. I think this qualifies as new mission suit attire,” poking the bell dangling from her elf hat. “Maybe you can get Stark to upgrade this outfit with Widow Bites.”
“Do you have a death wish?” Yelena sneered.
“Come on you adorable elf, it’s time for dinner,” placing an arm around your best friend’s shoulder.
*^~^*
You took your seat next to your wife at the Astoria Grand Giovani dining table. Natasha quietly squeezed your hand. You looked over with a shy smile and a festive blush on your cheeks.
Pepper stood up from her seat next to Tony at the head of the table. “Before we enjoy this lovely holiday feast, I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how grateful we are that you’re all here,” grasping Tony’s hand. “Everyone in this room knows how precious life is and we don’t take a moment of it for granted. We love you and Merry Christmas.”
“Here, here!” Thor declared a couple seats down from you as glasses clinked around the table.
A traditional Christmas dinner soon filled your plate. Roasted turkey with all the trimmings. Home baked bread, mashed potatoes and garden veggies gently roasted, drizzled in balsamic vinegar. The group drank, were merry, and told the most terrible of jokes.
Pregnancy mood swings were becoming commonplace and as the dinner wore on, you suddenly found yourself overwhelmed with emotion at the sight of your extended family enjoying the holiday season together.
“Y/N, are you okay?” Carol looked at you with concern in her eyes from across the table.
“Oh, yeah” dabbing at the corner of your eyes with your napkin. “I’m fine.”
“The holidays always make her a bit emotional,” Natasha offered laying her head comfortingly on your shoulder.
After dinner you helped Wanda serve the desserts. The Christmas cookies took their place in the center of the table, flanked by the Viennese torte and the pumpkin pie. Coffee and dessert wine circulated around the table.
The group of full bellies and ever so slightly sleepy eyes then made their way to the living room to relax. Christmas music softly enveloped the room as the kids were discussing what they hoped Santa was going to bring them this year.
“Okay, Kate Bishop. Let’s get this picture over with. I want to put on my pajamas,” Yelena announced as she stood from the sofa.
“Yay!! Okay, don’t move. Lucky! Here boy,” calling the dog who promptly romped over. “Vision, can you take the picture?”
“Of course Ms. Bishop.” Taking the Canon EOS R-50 from the archer.
“It is customary to say cheese before a picture, but since it is Christmas time perhaps you should say mistletoe?”
“Just take the picture,” Yelena deadpanned
“Mistletoe!” Kate yelled.
“We’re going to get one of these cards right?” Looking at your wife.
“I had Kate put us down for two,” she smirked.
*^~^*
As night fell, you rested your weary head on Nat’s lap as she ran her fingers through your hair.
Natasha looked at her watch. “You ready to drop the baby bomb?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be. I’ll get the Christmas crackers,” rising from the sofa.
“Umm, everyone. Y/N and I have a special gift for you all,” your wife announced nervously as you passed out the gold and silver novelties to the team.
“Christmas crackers? I have to be honest, I was hoping for something a bit more extravagant… Oww!” Tony whined, as Pepper pinching him on the arm.
You smiled with nervous anticipation as you reached for Natasha. The snap of the festive crackers echoed across the room. Clint was the first to reach inside and remove the tiny gift. A small round ceramic white ornament tied to a red ribbon appeared in his hand. Lila, Cooper, and Nate huddled around their dad to get a glimpse as Clint read the inscription.
“Uncle Clint?” Looking up at Natasha in shock.
“No way!” Sam shouted.
Wanda, Carol, and Kate all screamed at the sight of their own ornaments. Their names adorned with the title of Aunt.
“This is joyous news!” Thor crowed.
Pepper got up immediately and embraced you in a warm hug as Laura did the same with Natasha.
“How far along are you?” Wanda asked.
“Almost three months,” Yelena cut in.
“You knew?! Why didn’t you tell me?” Kate shouted; slapping her girlfriend on the arm.
“Because I want to sleep in!”
“I’m so happy for you, Nat,” Steve kissing her on the cheek.
Bucky wrapped his arms around you with a soft kiss to the top of your head.
“You ready to be Uncle Bucky?” Your eyes meeting his gaze.
“Oh God,” his face like a deer in the headlights.
“You’ll be great, Buck,” you giggled.
Bruce and Helen embraced Natasha in a tandem hug.
“I’m so relieved everyone knows,” Helen said turning to you. “Now we can openly discuss your pregnancy. Have you been continuing with your prenatal vitamins?”
And remember, you have an appointment on Friday,” Bruce interjected.
“Yes and yes,” you said as Natasha placed a soft kiss to your cheek and then another to your belly.
Tony walked up to you with that signature smirk on his face. You mentally prepared yourself for a signature Stark one-liner or some stupid joke. Instead, he took you by surprise when he wrapped you in a warm embrace.
“Congratulations, Romanoff. Looks like you do know Santa best.”

"i'll have a blue christmas without you. i'll be so blue just thinking about you. decorations of red on a green christmas tree, won't be the same dear, if you're not here with me."
— blue christmas, elvis presley
Tumblr media
hawkins, indiana. december 1989.
“I can’t believe you won’t be here.”
The ribboned rubber of the telephone cord curled around your finger. You pouted at the flowered fabric of your bedspread, imagining Steve in a little Christmas sweater he’d never wear—but he’d be here. Cozy, warm, big and bulky under layers of cable-knit.
Christmas was in three days, and your boyfriend wouldn’t even be here.
“I know, angel,” Steve sighed through the phone. “‘m sorry. I wish I could."
And he does. It's your first holiday season together—your first winter full of fluffy white snow, and cold afternoons that make you want to curl up and sleep the days away. It was the season of love and affection; the time of the year meant for nuzzling noses and burying in coats for warmth.
You imagined so many times what the holiday season would look like if Steve were here to stroll through the town square holding your mittened hand. He'd come up for weekends—twice since the beginning of November—but it was never long enough. He'd get in Friday night, and have to leave Sunday morning. You never got to sleep in and feign domestic bliss, tangled in his sheets in the white, early light.
Too many times, Steve kissed your head in a half sleep and whispered his goodbye; a note on his pillow where his head was supposed to be.
Angel,
I'll miss you more than ever.
—Steve
"Me too," you mumbled, pout evident in the huff and puff of your quiet words. You let your chin fall to your arm propped on the edge of your bed, glaring ahead at your wallpaper.
The house fogged with warmth from a home-cooked meal roasting in the oven downstairs. Your mother had a jazzy Christmas tune pipping from the stereo on the counter. Your father—last you checked forty minutes ago—was reading the paper in his armchair beneath the yellow lamplight of the living room. Your brother was somewhere up the street getting into trouble with his friends, driven to boredom without school to keep them busy. You had a Christmas party to attend tomorrow night, and you still hadn't picked an outfit, or wrapped your Secret Santa gift.
"Baby," Steve sighed. "C'mon, don't...don't make me feel bad."
You rolled onto your back. "I'm not, I'm not...I'm sorry."
Commotion clattered behind Steve—hotel doors opening and closing, voices muttering. The bed springs squeaked with his shifting. Your chest ached and squeezed with what you already knew was coming.
"I gotta go, angel...I'll call you later, alright? Be good f' me?"
You pinched your eyes shut, willing the stinging to stop. You nodded without words a moment, and then heard the buzz of his waiting. "Okay...love you."
"Love you too, baby. Bye."
Tumblr media
"Blue Christmas" spun on Lisa's turn table in the sunken den of her parent's basement living room. Still stuck in 1975 and decorated by her mother for the sole purpose of hosting cocktail parties, it was the perfect place for Lisa to hold her first "adult" holiday party: pink shag carpet, silver-tinseled Christmas tree, pastel wrapping and perfect bows, and geometric decor of diamonds and stars on the wood-paneled wall.
Lisa, Holly, Tammy (and even yourself) dressed in their best getups, hair and makeup perfected for Polaroids. They already snapped enough to cover the end table, and in every single one, your smile never met your eyes. You were too concerned with ruining Lisa's highly-anticipated party to be a drag, but the lack of Steve really weighed on you.
"Oh, honey," Holly sighed, padding her way over to you. She flopped onto the sofa beside you, arm wrapped around your shoulders. "You miss him real bad, huh?"
You sighed, head falling onto her arm. "That obvious?"
She sipped her (fourth) cocktail—something red and fruity and rimmed with crushed candy cane. "You haven't spoken a word in thirty minutes. It was just a hunch."
"I thought he'd at least...try to be here. I mean, he doesn't have a fight until next week. He could fly back and forth—but maybe that's...not right of me to ask that."
Holly hummed, setting her coupe glass on the Polaroid table. She turned to you, blonde hair neatly curled and pinned on either side, and pursed her glossy mouth.
"It's not too much to ask, hun. If he wanted to be here, he'd be here. He said he loves you, then he wouldn't miss your first Christmas together."
You peered at her, wondering if this were true. From their place near the tree, arranging gifts and flicking through Elvis albums, Lisa and Tammy looked up.
"Oh, that's not true!" Tammy squawked. "He's just busy. They're talkin' about him all the way in New York now."
You chewed on the inside of your cheek, stomach twisting. "They are?"
If Steve were truly gaining popularity across the east coast, you had more than just a missed Christmas to worry about. You sensed its arrival—his fame and popularity. Steve was up and coming, and he had an aggression not many fighters had these days. He had the drive, the passion, the determination. You saw it all in his eyes. You knew he wouldn't stop until he was the best, and he wasn't afraid to make the sacrifices necessary to be just that.
And maybe it was selfish of you to want him all to yourself—but you've never felt this way about anyone before. Steve was everything.
"Oh, Libby," Lisa cooed, hurriedly rushing your way. Tammy followed, and soon they were all surrounding you, perched on the sofa and the coffee table.
"It'll be okay! He loves you, it's so obvious. You just have to realize...maybe his career will always come first. You just have to find a way to be okay with that," Lisa offered meekly.
You nodded, but only because your tongue felt like lead in your mouth. The girls glanced at each other momentarily, and then Holly stood in a flash of sparkly, bubblegum pink and glitter.
"Well, to hell with Steve! Let's get drunk and open presents."
Tumblr media
The glasses drained themselves, really. The records spun and scratched, the pretty, gilded wrapping paper shred to pieces, and the girls in the den soon became nothing but giggling messes. When you got bored of the music, you turned to the television, turning the knob until you reached a fuzzy, pixelated picture of It's A Wonderful Life, though the static-y voices fell on deaf ears.
"Oh, it's darling, Libby, really," Holly gushed, holding up the pink satin slip you gifted her for Christmas.
Holly was easiest to shop for—she'd be pleased with anything pink, soft, and fancy.
"I'm glad you—hic!—like it. And I love my book, Tammy. It's so beautiful."
The book, a cloth-bound classic, was wine-colored and gorgeous. It was so pretty you didn't even want to put it on the shelf. It would sit on your dresser for a little while to look at.
Lisa gave Tammy a pair of red Mary Janes, and Holly gave Lisa a new set of hot rollers. The remains of the wrapping paper sat in bits and pieces around you on the carpet, and you had to shoo away Lisa's cocker spaniel, Lady, before she ate it all. She trudged into your lap, shedding soft hair over your dress as you stroked her long, floppy ears, watching the pink-flushed faces of your friends through the glowing white light of the Christmas tree.
Despite Steve's absence, you were happy. You had your friends.
The giggles faded when the doorbell rang through the house. Lisa waved it off, peering up the steps of the den toward the first floor. "Probably just a caroler. Ignore it."
But the doorbell rang again. Lisa huffed, and Tammy and Holly giggled as she fumbled up the steps. In her absence, they turned to you, all gushing over each other's presents and asking after more cocktails. They kissed at Lady in your lap and tossed popcorn at her waiting mouth, and you fell in line with the amusement until Lisa's socked feet came flapping into the room.
"Libby, Steve's here."
You weren't sure you heard her right. The giggles dwindled again, and your hand stilled over Lady's head in a half-stroke. Your heart was in your mouth, pulsing dumbly.
"W-what?"
Lisa, out of breath and wide-eyed, had her hands on her hips with an ecstatic smile. "He's here. Steve, he's here—he's waiting outside."
"Well, for God's sake, Lisa, why didn't you invite him in?" Tammy chimed in.
Lisa shot her a glare. "He said he'd wait outside for her! Probably heard your cackling and got too scared to come in."
Holly soothed your friend's sting with a half-hug around Tammy's shoulders, but you were still numb. You carefully scooped Lady up and placed her on the floor, away from the wrapping paper. You pushed to your feet, smoothing down the skirt of your dress. You put your book on the sofa, and turned to your friends still on the floor.
"Do I...do I look alright?"
"Gorgeous, babe," Holly beamed. "Let me just..."
She stood, reaching up to fix your hair. She fluffed it, poofed it, found your purse on a hook near the door and spritzed your perfume at the crown of your head, and under your ears. She handed you your lipgloss and a mirror, and when you were content with the pink-eyed doeness of your appearance, you stepped toward the stairs.
"Go, go!" Lisa ushered you, giving you a nudge.
You steadied yourself on the wall, steps careful and cautious. Those drinks made you a little woozy, but nothing felt as fuzzy as the thought of Steve waiting for you in the snow. He came all the way here, for you. Your cheeks warmed at the very thought. Your stomach crawled its way up to your throat.
You made your way through the house, taking one last glance in the nearest mirror, before pulling open the door.
A cold rush immediately burst into the house, but any thought of shivering fled your mind at the sight of Steve looming before your eyes. Brown leather coat, black sweater, Levi jeans tight at the hips and loose at the calves. He had his hands cupped around his mouth, blowing hot, white air into his palms—but at the sound of your steps, at the scent of you, he stopped.
All you could do, for just a moment, was stare. Three long weeks since you last saw him—those perfect, round hazel eyes, those high, rosy cheeks. The tip of his nose was wind-nipped pink, the tops of his ears blown red. He smelled like vetiver and leather cologne, and he looked beautiful.
"Oh, Steve."
You crashed into his chest, arms wound tight around his stomach. He enveloped you in his own, holding you as close as he could; and the warmth of him immediately melded with yours. You buried your nose into his chest and hummed, eyes pinched shut just to hold onto this. This moment, this scene, this feeling of him so close after so long apart. You didn't want to let go.
"Merry Christmas, angel," he whispered, and then his mouth sat atop your head, pressing it into a kiss.
Tumblr media
When the cold got unbearable, you pulled Steve inside. Fingers intertwined and cheeks sore with grinning, you skipped your way back down to the den where your friends feigned innocence despite their heaving breaths.
"Well look who's here," Holly cooed, watching you tug Steve down the steps.
You giggled, tipping into his side, one foot coming to kick up giddily. You felt like a schoolgirl with her very first crush. That's how love should always be, right?
"Steve, you know everyone. This is Lisa, Holly, and Tammy. Girls, this is Steve."
Your friends waggled their fingers in bashful little waves, and Steve lifted a wide palm in hello. You could smell the Marlboros on his coat, see the outline of a new pack in the front of his pocket. His hands were starting to warm up against your own.
"And this is Lady," you cooed, watching the cocker spaniel sniff at Steve's boots.
You dipped down and scooped her up, bringing her up against your chest to wave a tiny paw at Steve. He cracked a sideways smile, reaching out to scratch at her chin. You let her scamper back over toward the girls by the tree, and turned to Steve with your fingers looped together behind your back.
You could barely contain the giddy glee flooding through your body. Steve noticed. He nicked you under the chin with a gentle knuckle, and another small kiss placed on your sticky mouth.
"You girls been drinkin'?" he gruffed, thumb pressing on your bottom lip.
You shrugged. "A little. It's Christmas, Steve."
He hummed, eyeing the dazzled, feminine setup of the room. A mess of pretty paper, tinsel knocked astray, empty coupe glasses and picked-at pigs-in-a-blanket and bowls of snacks, a dog sniffing around for scraps and attention—harmless, he decided. Maybe even sweet.
As if waiting for his approval, and recognizing the submission, Steve turned back to you with a small smile. "Okay."
You took him by the hand again, tugging him toward the tree. "Come on."
But Steve paused, tugging you with just the resistance of his solid stance, snapping back like a rubber-band.
"Wait, honey..." You turned to him, and he reached into the lining of his coat. "Got somethin' for you."
He pulled out a slim, black velvet box. You pressed your lips into a smile and huddled close.
"But, Steve...yours is at home—"
"—shh. Just open it."
You were acutely aware of your friends craning to see over your shoulder from their place on the floor, petting mindlessly at Lady and munching at shortbread. But in this moment, it was just you and Steve. And he watched you intently once he handed over the box, gnawing at his own lip. God, he wanted a smoke. He just wanted you to love it.
You pushed the box open, hinges snapping back to reveal a navy blue satin lining, and a gorgeous golden locket strung inside. An "S" sat etched on the center of an intricately engraved heart, adorned with swirling roses on a delicate chain.
"Oh, Steve." It was all you seemed to be able to say today.
"D' you like it?" he asked, voice edged with worry.
You fingered at the locket, feeling the cool metal. "I love it, Steve. It's gorgeous."
He exhaled. "Good. Lemme put it on."
With fingers too big for such delicate things, he plucked the necklace from its box and pulled the clasp open. You spun around, moving your hair out of the way for his hands. With your back to him, you could properly convey your excitement to your friends, who mirrored your beaming grin with equal delight.
The locket rested perfectly in the center of your chest, and once clasped, you felt it against your skin with your palm.
"Thank you, Steve. I love it so much."
Steve, hands braced on your shoulders, tipped his head and kissed your cheek. "Anything, angel. It's all yours."
Lisa snapped the head of a gingerbread-man cookie off with her teeth, and Holly cooed. Tammy busied herself with the dog.
But you had a band of butterflies in your stomach and a drum line in your chest, and you turned to look up at Steve with nothing but adoration.
"Look inside." He nudged his nose toward the locket again.
Wedging a nail between the hinges, you popped the heart open. A crudely-cut picture of yourself and Steve—so minuscule it would be difficult to discern from a blob if you hadn't recognized the very moment captured in time—sat in a black and white fashion in the heart.
Another smile at Steve, loving and sweet. "Who knew you were so romantic, Steve Harrington?"
He tucked his bruised fists into his coat pockets and shrugged. "I try."
Steve had hours before he had to leave and a plane ticket burning a hole in his back pocket—but it was Christmas, and he'd do anything, even blow off his coach and a team full of people, if it meant seeing your pretty face.
"Merry Christmas, angel."
The softest of kisses shared between warm mouths. Strawberry-cigarette smooches were what life was all about.
"Merry Christmas, Steve."

Meet the (Other) Parents (Rooster x Reader)
Part of The What If Collection of blurbs for Roo and Baby Girl. Written for an ask. My masterlist. Banner by @mak-32
Warnings: just fluff
Tumblr media
You were laying on Bradley's bed in Bradley's bedroom in Bradley's house. And you felt warm and flushed. Not only because of what you and he just finished doing, but also because you knew deep down inside that he bought the craftsman for you.
"Mmm," he hummed, kissing your neck as you felt the bed dip. "I'm going to finish cleaning up from lunch, and then we can head to the airport.
"Okay," you whispered. You were so nervous. His parents were on their connecting flight out of St. Louis right now. Sure, they were coming out to appraise the house that Bradley closed on three days ago, but they were really coming out to do the same to you. This would be your first time meeting them.
When you eventually made your way into the beautiful kitchen, your boyfriend pulled you in for a hug. "They are going to love you, Baby Girl. My mom asks about you every day, plus you've already talked to them on the phone."
"I hope so." Your own parents were pretty crazy about Bradley after meeting him less than two weeks ago, and you wanted to be just as impressive for Carole and Goose.
But there were little signs of your presence everywhere here, even after just a few days. You'd spent nearly every moment in the house with Bradley since he got the keys. Your toothbrush was in the bathroom, your overnight bag full of clothing was sitting inside his closet. Your uniform was hanging in the laundry room.
"Should I clean my stuff up and like put it in the garage or something?" you asked cautiously.
Bradley looked at you like you'd lost your mind. "Why?"
"So your parents don't see my stuff here?"
Bradley snorted as he started to put his shoes on. "Trust me, Sweetheart. Carole and Goose know I have every intention of trying to get you to move in here with me as soon as possible. Short of leaving your sexiest underwear on the bed, they are not going to care."
"Alright," you whispered, following him out to the Bronco. He opened the door and then buckled you in, and you couldn't help but grin at what had become a little symbol of his love. And with a quick kiss to your shoulder, he had the door closed and was walking around to the other side.
There was no traffic. There was nothing to delay you. And it was all too soon before you were standing in baggage claim in your favorite sundress with Bradley's arm draped casually around your shoulders. Your heart was pounding. And then Bradley squeezed your bicep gently.
"There they are," he said with a bright smile, and you saw the Bradshaws hustling toward you. The tropical print shirt nearly identical to the one Bradley was wearing would have been a dead giveaway, if you hadn't already seen photos of them. And Carole was waving and calling her son's name, even though he clearly saw her, which had you smiling at her.
"Bradley!" she gushed when she was close, and she still looked beautiful, even with silver threaded through her blonde hair. Bradley leaned down to hug her, and then the petite woman was practically shoving him out of the way to get a better look at you. She gasped and took your hand in hers. "Aren't you just even more gorgeous in person? Oh, I can't tell you how happy this makes me."
And then you were being squeezed so tight by someone so small, you were left muttering, "It's so nice to meet you, Mrs. Bradshaw."
She kissed your cheek as she released you and said, "Call me Carole! And this is Nick. Or Goose. Either one."
You reached out to shake his hand, but he also pulled you into a much less life threatening hug and said, "Just call me Goose. Everyone else does." And when he released you a second later, his chocolate brown eyes which were identical to his son's darted between you and Bradley. Then he just nodded before he hugged his son as well.
You insisted that Goose sit in the front of the Bronco on the ride back to the craftsman, and that left you in the back with Carole. She asked about the naval academy and what part of Maryland you were from. She asked about your parents and your roommate and your job and everything else under the sun. You were about to ask her to tell you more about what Bradley was like when he was younger, but then she leaned across the seat and sighed softly, her blue eyes glittering.
"Sorry. I just want to know everything about you. You're one of a kind."
"I am?" you asked with a soft laugh.
She nodded vigorously and said, "Oh, yes." She was looking at you like you were unbelievable. Just too much to take in all at once, and you started to squirm. "We've never met a girlfriend before."
"Oh," you replied softly. You knew Bradley hadn't been in many relationships, but this made you feel warm inside.
"And he so obviously loves you," she added. "Goose and I just can't wait to spend the whole weekend with the two of you."
Her words still had you feeling flushed as Bradley pulled up to the house and unlocked the front door.
"It's beautiful!" Carole said as Bradley led his parents around to see every room. You trailed at a bit of a distance until they beckoned you forward. And they didn't say anything about your toothbrush or your glasses case or your uniform.
But you did hear Goose quietly tell Bradley, "This looks like a house you could raise a family in. Don't drag your feet."
And you did hear Carole whisper to Bradley. "I just love her. She's so charming. Oh my god, Bradley, I don't know how you managed to pull this one off, but please please please don't mess it up."
You were far less nervous as the four of you had pizza and beers on the back patio on the rickety old table and chairs the previous owner left. And you were even less nervous later that night when Bradley suggested his parents sleep on the queen bed. Carol responded with, "Nonsense. The two of you can stay in your room. We'll be fine on the double bed that you bought."
So you got changed and curled up next to Bradley in bed and whispered, "Your parents are awesome."
"They think you're awesome, too."
And you fell asleep wrapped up with his long limbs.
------------------------
When you were about to leave to take Bradley's parents back to the airport a few days later, you climbed into the backseat with Carole once again. She told you about all of the cousins she couldn't wait to introduce you to in Virginia. "If you can come for Thanksgiving, of course."
"Wouldn't miss it," you promised, and her smile filled you with happiness.
After a beat, she leaned a little closer to you and said, "You know he bought that house for you, right?"
You opened your mouth, but you weren't quite sure what to say. You thought you'd made a good impression on them. You didn't want them to feel like you were taking advantage of their son. You really liked them. You were starting to panic.
But she could read your face in that way only a mom could, and she reached across the seat to squeeze your hand. "Oh, I mean that in a good way, darling. A very good way. Means he wants you to stick around."
You were surprised to find that you had tears in your eyes as you said goodbye to them, and as you watched them walk through the security screen area, Bradley said, "I'm pretty sure we have to go there for Thanksgiving."
"That's okay," you replied right away. "I want to." But when you turned to head back to the Bronco, something had you glancing back toward his parents. They were too far away for you to be certain, but you were nearly positive that Carole was leaving San Diego without her engagement ring.

the christmas party
ceo!price x reader / smut free / ~2.8k words
A very belated Christmas drabble thing. Definitely not inspired by real life events. 👀 Featuring a fem!Reader x Price, background Ghost x Soap, and Gaz, the incredi-boss. Might fuck around make this a series, we'll see! Maybe I'll clean it up and throw it on AO3, too.
CW: alcohol, substance abuse (mentioned) inappropriate comments from coworkers
You came to expect drama at the company Christmas party. It was as traditional as the optional White Elephant gift exchange, the hired group of carolers, and the ugly sweater competition.
Last year, a 'mystery' baggie of powder and a credit card belonging to the former Head of Sales was found in a bathroom stall. Two years ago, it was the unexpectedly raunchy dancing between an engineer and a project manager you swore hated each other. Three years ago, a division head went home with someone who was definitely not her spouse.
You'd seen a lot in your tenure. The good, the bad, the ugly, the hilariously mortifying.
Coming up on your fifth year with The 141 Group, you were a rarity. Most folks job-hopped. More power to them, no shame in gaining good experience after a year or two to leave for greener pastures. The fact you stuck around labeled you a 'veteran', a cheeky if not sensational label, though there were times you certainly felt like you'd seen war. Acquisitions. Rebrands. Reorgs. Yeesh.
But life at 141 suits you. You are an executive assistant, a good one. It helps that your direct supervisor and the VP of Finance, Kyle Garrick, a fellow 'vet', was an incredible boss. He lets you work from when you need to, doesn't micromanage, and treats you like a person, unlike other execs. He had faith in your ability to manage his calendar, prep materials, book travel - in short, you organized his work life. In return, whenever some new hire got too fresh with you, all it took was one teensy mention in a morning meeting, and by lunch, the offending party had only apologies for you. Most importantly, though, the job nets enough money to make rent and let you pursue your hobbies.
With years of Christmas parties under your belt, you were looking forward to tonight's low-grade yet cataclysmic event. Pre-gaming and primping at a fellow assistant's house, Jordan, you clasp the silver holly leaf pendant around your neck where it lies just above your modest cleavage. The dress code was simply 'Christmas Color', another tradition. Formal attire was expected, if not an unsaid requirement, which meant slipping into a gorgeous dark green dress you spied weeks ago in a boutique window. You thank yourself for earning that last pay bump to afford it because you look fantastic, in your humble opinion.
Lacing her leather Oxfords, Jordan gives a low whistle when you turn away from the mirror. "Like a big, sexy pine tree."
You smirk. "Thanks. Remind me why we both couldn't wear red tonight?"
"Because of the two of us, red is my color. Do I not look like some kind of holiday vampire?" She asks, standing with a sweeping gesture down at her deep, red velvet suit.
"More bellboy, but-"
"Rude!"
The two of you lovingly bicker all the way out to the awaiting car. The 141 Group, ever mindful of its image, always reimbursed rideshares for its company parties. Given the amount of liquor that flowed at these events, it wasn't only generous but smart. Like the higher-ups needed a scandal. The car ferries you across town to the ritzy event space at a local art museum. Leaving your coats at the complimentary bag check, you enter the well-underway party.
The events team needs a raise, like yesterday. The sprawling space was completely done up. Several open bars, a champagne wall, a photo op with a to-scale Santa's Sleigh, and dining tables with place settings that probably rival a monarch. Silvery white birch trees enveloped in lights line the walls, with clusters of small fir trees fully decorated dotting the space. The dancefloor was already busy with a DJ fully dressed as Santa.
Four going on five years, and it was still quite the sight.
You gently elbow Jordan. "So. Cheesy themed cocktails first or canapes?"
"Obviously drinks. I just saw one with an ornament in it!"
~~
Three hours in, it was a dead heat for Most Dramatic Event. Two separate calamities slowly built throughout the night.
At the nexus of the first, Chad from marketing was almost blacked out. After winning the ugly sweater with a true abomination of a sweater (working lights, a mini speaker, and an ungodly amount of sequins), he celebrated. A little hard. He bopped from open bar to open bar as the bartenders cut him off one by one. He was trying to convince a coworker to grab him another Mistletoe Martini, and it was progressively getting louder.
The second was from the rumor mill more than anything. Apparently, a developer named Scott brought the wrong gift for the exchange. As the story went, his wife used the same paper for an identically sized gift, one of a titillating nature, and now he was visibly paranoid that he nabbed the wrong one on the way out the door. The man stalked the pile of gifts as folks drew numbers.
Jordan bet on the first, and you bet on the second. From the corner, you watch, giggling behind a cup of Prancer's Punch.
The sound of your name drew your attention. Kyle, in a charcoal gray suit with a sleek snowflake tie bar and green tie, approaches with a Tiny Tim Collins in hand. Though you waved hello earlier in the night, he spent most of the evening in the company of who you deemed his 'buddies' - Johnny MacTavish, VP of Technology and Jordan's boss, and Simon Riley, the Chief Security Officer. You learned in your first month to leave the trio to it.
"Having fun, are we?" Kyle grins and turns to observe the twin events.
"I love this party. Every year, delivers just like Santa," Jordan gleefully said.
"Someone should stop them," You add, knowing nobody would. At least not Kyle.
And as if on cue, the man chuckles. "Not my circus, not my clowns."
The three of you chat, swapping bits of office gossip collected through the night. Not the most appropriate, but not the worst social crime, surely. You're the right amount of tipsy: warm and relaxed but solid.
The wager came up naturally.
"What do you want if you win, my pine tree?"
"Hmm. It's gotta be something outrageous but not a fireable offense. Hmm. Maybe I'll have you sing on a video call, pretend you thought you were on mute or something."
"...That's boring."
"Do I want to know?" Kyle asks, sipping his drink.
"We have a bet on who's gonna be this year's drama - Chad or Scott." You explain.
"Maybe I ought to get back…" Your boss said with a laugh. "Better not witness to whatever you two plan."
"Might be for the best. Night, Kyle," You accept the brief hug from the man, then poke a finger against his chest. "Listen, if I get one DM about work during the holiday, I'm switching your coffee to decaf."
Kyle claps a hand over his heart as if he's been shot. "Monstrous. Fine, have it your way, no work during Christmas…Now, behave yourself, both of you."
Watching him retreat back to MacTavish and Riley (who look quite cozy - perhaps another piece of gossip?), Jordan nudges you. "If I was into guys, that's who I'd be into."
"You and like fifty other people here," As Kyle's assistant, you're more than his Girl Friday; you're also a professional gatekeeper. You could wallpaper your apartment with the amount of cringy notes you've stopped from reaching his desk.
"Not your type, then?"
You whip your head back to Jordan, utterly horrified. "No way. Not that Kyle isn't an absolute dreamboat; he's just not my dreamboat. Plus, at this point, it would be so, so weird."
Jordan laughs. "Y'know, even though we've been work besties for a year, I don't think we've ever discussed this. What is your type? As dudes are not my specialty, I have no clue."
Your type, huh? As if you don't know. Your type's been the same for as long as you can remember. Big and brawny, the kind of guy who could haul you around. Dark hair. Well-groomed, well-dressed, well-endow–You could still make it onto the naughty list.
Using better and cleaner terms, you relay this information to Jordan.
"Huh. A man's man. Whodathunk–oh! Oh shit, look who it is!" The other woman pats your arm and gestures with a nod.
Joining Kyle and his buddies, is none other than John Price - CEO of The 141 Group. Fashionably late (very fashionably late), yet another tradition. Adorned in a Santa red suit jacket and a matching red tie, he somehow makes the boring dress code dashing. Flanking him is a pair of bodyguards. He's just in time for the wager to come to a head.
God, he looks good.
As Kyle's assistant, you see John fairly regularly. Not that he sees you. No one above a certain pay grade sees assistants. You kind of just blend right on in. Not even Mr. Riley, whom you've been introduced to a dozen times by Kyle himself, recalls your name. When you tag along to meetings to take notes for the boss man, you assume you're on the same level as a lamp or plant. That doesn't mean you haven't ogled John Price before. Kind of hard to not to, what with his commanding presence. You're kind of ogling him right now.
"Wow, you really do have a type," Jordan hums with a shit-eating grin.
"Shut up," You hiss into your drink and look away, just in time to see Chad from marketing lift a gift box-shaped ice sculpture and smash it onto the ground next to one of the open bars with a frustrated yell. The poor bartender and caterers jump back, and the music scratches to a halt. A thick silence fell over the party, impressive for a crowd of over a hundred, and your eyes flick to Mr. Price.
He glares daggers in Chad's direction, then nods at the taller of his bodyguards. Without hesitation, the man crosses the event space toward a petrified, drunk-crying Chad. As the guard hauls him away, your coworker, or former coworker, you assume, bursts into ugly tears and then disappears from sight. But your eyes are still on John, whose gaze turns to the DJ. The music starts again, as does the chatter.
"Fuck yes," Jordan giddily whispers.
"Well, shit."
"You know what this means, don't you?"
"...Unfortunately, yes. Yes, I do," You sigh and down the rest of your drink. "Before you swing the axe, let me grab another punch."
"Hurry back, I've got my thinking cap on," Jordan impishly smirks.
With a groan, you make your way to the nearest open bar. One far from Chad's little tantrum. Most folks are on the dance floor at this hour, leaving this particular bar quiet. Waiting in line behind other tipsy coworkers, a clearing throat behind you grabs your attention.
"D'you have a recommendation?" A low, gravelly voice from all your best dreams asks.
You turn, and the sweet Hallmark-worthy image that blossomed in your mind in the last two seconds promptly morphs into a nightmare. Not a running-for-your-life nightmare, but a you're-the-only-naked-person-in-class nightmare. Laughable, considering the topic of conversation not three minutes ago.
John Price stands tall behind you, arms crossed, testing the fabric of his red suit jacket. He smells like tobacco and something spicy, and his eyes are a shade of blue you hadn't noticed before. You never got this close. They narrow slightly, and you realize you haven't answered him.
"Prancer's Punch." The name sounds cornier aloud.
"Hmm. Brandy or rum?" He sounds unimpressed. Was he unimpressed?
You're quicker to answer this time. Except, you babble. "It's, uh, made with dark rum. It's delicious. I've had a few. The cranberry juice isn't too tart, compliments the sparkling wine and–It's good."
Santa, run me over with your reindeer.
Kyle would be humiliated to have heard all of that. You are humiliated for having said all of that.
To your surprise though, the corner of John's mouth hooks in a smirk, then he chuckles. "How many qualifies as 'a few'?"
You, apparently committed to acting moronically, answer honestly. "Five."
It gets you an actual laugh this time. His hand raises up to scritch at his cheek, flashing the band of a watch you're certain is worth more than your life, then juts his chin forward slightly. "You're up, miss."
"Oh, no, Mr. Price, I insist, please-" You start to sidestep to let him up in line, but his hand lowers immediately and stretches out to stop you. He doesn't touch you, but the hair of your arm stands up at the proximity.
John smiles again, and his head tips toward you. "I insist. Join me, Miss…?"
"Mr. Price?" A voice suddenly interrupts. The taller bodyguard that removed Chad steps up and steals away Mr. Price's attention. "The problem's been dealt with. Regarding…"
You don't hear the rest of the conversation because you hurriedly ask for a punch and bolt back to Jordan.
And Jordan saw everything. Your heart is racing, and you miss half of her teasing.
"You made him laugh. Twice. I don't think I've ever seen him smile, let alone laugh."
"Because I basically admitted to being drunk!"
"Calm down, you're not, you're solid," She reassures. "Besides. You saw that death glare at Chad. If he was upset, I reckon you'd be on the receiving end of one of those."
You groan and take a swig of punch. You hope you've had enough of the good stuff to burn away the memory of your embarrassing rambling. You look back to Jordan to say something and find your friend once again grinning devilishly at you.
"I just thought of what I want for my victory."
Any time, Santa. Put me out of my misery.
"What?"
"So…You know #AskPrice?"
You know where this is going, and your eyeballs nearly bulge out of their sockets. "Jordan. Please. No. Do not make me post something stupid there."
#AskPrice was the name of the open channel at work. Anyone across the company could post questions for Mr. Price to answer. More often than not, it was a venue for bootlickers and kiss-asses to rain praises and share bad proposals. Rarely was there a legitimate question or a good idea.
"Darling, of course not. I have something far funnier in mind," She started, and you swore you saw the flames of hell itself in her eyes. "You're going to direct message Mr. Price and ask what he wants for Christmas."
Jaw, meet floor. "Absolutely not!"
Jordan laughs and hooks an arm around your neck, pulling you in. "Come on. It's harmless. Believe me, I considered making you send a selfie or asking if you're on the naughty or nice list."
"He could fire me!"
"For what? It's just a question! He always says we're welcome to DM him."
To be fair, Mr. Price did say that at the end of every company-wide call or in email announcements. He always harps on 'transparency' and 'open channels of communication', hence #AskPrice. To your knowledge, however, no one ever takes him up on that, at least at your level.
"Jordan…Mercy. Please."
"My sweet pine tree, you lost fair and square," She releases you and pats your shoulder. "If it makes you feel better, I bet he gets a thousand messages a day. The notification will get lost in the noise."
It doesn't take much more prodding and encouragement from Jordan. Your phone ends up in your hand, and you tap into the chat app. Your hand shakes a little when you pull up John's username and open the message dialogue.
johnprice - invisible Hi, Mr. Price. I was wondering what you want for Christmas?
Short and to the point. Jordan calls it 'boring', but you're already putting your neck on the line for a stupid wager. You're not risking anymore by dressing it up. Bet fulfilled, you press send, quickly turn notifications off, and shove your phone back into your little purse. Jordan rewards you with a squeeze to the shoulder.
"That was terrifying." You whine.
"That was a rush. Come on. Let's dance."
~~
The next morning, when you're all but molded to your couch and housing takeaway, there's a little ping from your phone. It's the chime of the chat app.
"Kyle, for the love of everything, it's Sunday–"
You nearly drop your phone.
johnprice - invisible Hi, Mr. Price. I was wondering what you want for Christmas? > World peace. > I'd settle for a drink, though.

It was a typical afternoon in the Saloon, the patrons were all enjoying their drinks, conversing and laughing with each other. In the corner, a group of patrons were playing Poker, while the ragtime piano was playing as the Saloon Girls danced on stage. All was well until the doors swung open, the afternoon light casting an ominous shadow across the floorboards. Everything came to a stop when the patrons and workers alike saw the tall man at the double doors. He was known by many names; "The Menace of Mischief, Silver Tongue, The Frost-Hearted Foe, but the one name he truly went by was Loki Laufeyson.
His icy blue eyes scanned the Saloon as he made his way towards the bar. The only sound that can be heard was the tinkling of his spurs and the thumping of his boots across the floor. He took a seat on the stool at the bar, his gaze meeting that of the intimidated bartender. "I'll have ma'self a base burner." He finally spoke, his voice deep with a strong drawl. The bartender nodded and poured him a glass of whiskey and slid it over to him. Loki caught the glass and tipped his hat before taking a swig. Sensing that he wasn't here to cause trouble, the Saloon slowly bustled back to life, the conversations flowing, chips clacking, and the ragtime piano playing. Loki swiveled in his seat to watch the Saloon Girls on stage, smirking at the flirtatious display. One particular girl caught his eye, a girl wearing a green dress with black lace and a black feather in her headband. You were that girl, dancing in the center with your peers, Natasha, Carol, Wanda, and Janet, who were each dressed in their respected colors; black, blue, red, and gold.
After the little stage show, you headed for the Powder Room to freshen up. Loki slowly got up and made his way after you, looking behind his back to make sure that nobody was watching. You were in the Power Room, powdering your nose, when you suddenly heard a man's voice say "Howdy there, Missy!" You yelp and jump, placing a hand over your heart. Loki chuckled. "Didn't mean to scare ya, I jus' wanted to say that you look mighty fine up there...and up close too." You blushed at his forwardness, but you forged a smile. "Why thank ya, Stranger." You replied, but Loki got closer. "Oh I ain't no stranger, sweetie. You know damn well who I am, don't you?" You gulped and nodded slowly. "O-of course, Sir..."
"Then say it..." Loki cut you off. "...say my name."
You looked him in the eyes and said. "Y-you're....you're....Loki....Loki Laufeyson, the fella wanted by Sheriff Stark in Yorktown."
Loki smiled and chuckled at your answer. "Good girl."
"What do you want from me?" You queation.
"Don't 'cha worry, I ain't here to hurt ya." Loki reassured. "I just wanna show you mah Ace in the hole." You back away, a little scared. He chuckled again. "Oh no, it ain't no barking iron...well, not the kind ya think." He winked, unbuckling his chaps to lower his pants, revealing his member to you. You gasped and blushed, looking down at the thickened rod. You look up at him and lick your lips. "I guess I can be friendly~" you purr. Loki smiled and grabbed his lasso. "Atta girl~" he tied your wrists together, before wrapping the rope around your torso, tying your arms to your chest. You bit your lip, being tied up to get fucked by a notorious outlaw excited you. Loki bent you over in front of the vanity and lifted your skirt up, pulling your pantaloons down to reveal your ass and quim to him. He took a step back to look at them in all their glory and whistled. "I tell ya what, that's a mighty fine lookin' pussy ya got there~" You couldn't help but blush at that statement. Loki reached over and gently petted your awaiting lips, causing you to gasp and let out a little moan. Loki smiled and continued to rub his long, dexterous digits against your lips, wanting to make sure you were good and ready for him.
Once you were wet with arousal, Loki removed his kerchief from his neck, and wrapped it tightly around your mouth, gagging you. "I'm sorry, Huckleberry..." he said. "...as much as I love to hear ya sing, I'm afraid I'm gon' hafta keep ya quiet so ya won't get caught bein' a floozy." You nodded understandably and you felt his large hands gripping your hips. You anticipated his grand entrance, which he did smoothly. You moaned into the kerchief as he slid inside you, letting out a soft groan. "Oh mah stars..." he whispered, trying to contain himself. He gripped onto the lasso with one hand before he started to buck, keeping a firm grip onto your hip with one hand. Your moans were muffled by the kerchief, and Loki can be heard making restrained panting sounds. He wanted to be louder, but alas, he couldn't chance it, what he was doing was already too risky. You lifted your head and looked into the mirror of the vanity, seeing yourself with the green kerchief around your mouth and Loki behind you, pistoning his hips into your supple ass. He looked into the mirror at you and smiled with a breathless chuckle. "Now ain't that a sight?" He said, referring to how you two looked in the mirror. You weren't going to lie, watching yourself being bound, gagged, and fucked by this man only heightened your arousal, making yourself slick enough for him to pick up the pace. The Powder Room was filled with the sounds of your muffled moans, his panting, the clacking of his bullet belt, and your skins slapping. It was all so erotic and thrilling.
Loki was so close, his panting was increasing, switching his gaze back and forth to the mirror and his cock sliding in and out of you. He leaned forward, pressing his torso into your back and began fucking you vigorously, causing you to moan louder into the kerchief. "That's it..." he huffed. "...come on, girl." After a few good thrusts, Loki gritted his teeth and grunted, pushing his cock as deep as he can before releasing. You moaned into the kerchief and came around him, your walls squeezing his cock as if to milk it of all he's got. Loki shuddered and his cock throbbed at the sensation, giving you a few good extra spurts before slowly pulling out with a wet pop. He huffed and looked down at the results of his hard work, your cunt was now dripping with the man's semen, which was heavily erotic for him. Loki tucked himself back into his pants before removing the kerchief and untying you. You slowly stood up, looking down at the marks the rope left on your bare arms. Loki chuckled and ran his hands along the markings. You saw his hands glowing and the markings disappearing. You gasp and turn around, mouth agape in awe. "How did you...?!"
"Now, now, you know that a magician never reveals his secrets..." Loki grinned. "...now, perhaps you could be my little magician and never reveal our secret to nobody." He winked, causing you to blush. "I won't, Sir!" You reply, earning yourself an even bigger smile from him. "That's a good girl~" he purred before tipping his hat and slowly exiting the Powder Room, leaving you alone with your thoughts and the realization of what you've just done. You smirked at the thought...this was going to be a dirty secret that you're sure as hell taking to the grave with you. You began to wonder if by chance you ever encountered Loki again, perhaps he could show you another reason why he's been nicknamed "Silver Tongue"...

🤝🫣💕✏️ for Carol with Silver and Jade
Oc x Canon Asks
Tumblr media
Silver:
🤝: How did they meet in the first place? What was there first impression of each other?
There is two versions... one where Carol stays in Ramshackle where they would meet among the campus and one where she transfers to Diasomnia and meets him there.... either way I feel she joined him as he fell asleep just watching out for him and reading a book... making sure nobody disturbs him... she felt calm around him and he had somewhat comfort with her being around... they were not obligated to act close but could still enjoy anothers company.
🫣: Who stumbled the most with their feelings around the other? How much did the other person notice?
Silver didn't notice her feelings even if she often watched him from afar and admired him for how pretty he was... I mean she didn't noticed either he took a liking to her but he was less obvious about it... they just thought they liked another as buddies when it was actually more behind it.
💕: Who confessed first and how? Did it go as planned or did shenanigans ensue?
Definetly Carol would have spoken up about it... she has so many crushes but maybe one event where Silver fell asleep against her made her blurt out her feelings thinking he was asleep but he heard it all and whispered back to her that he loved her too... she grew quite red unsure if she heard that right but a kiss soon after was proof enough as she hugged him with a happy smile.
✏️: How canon compliant are you with them? Do you stick pretty close or just have fun cause it’s your ship so no one can tell you what to do other wise?
I am honest... even If I research and read up everything I can I haven't touched the game since the scarabia chapter so... all my information is relying on wikis and translations right now... I try my best to stick to what I know and headcanons but that could not 100% be canon complient
Jade:
🤝: How did they meet in the first place? What was there first impression of each other?
Carol imidiatly took action hearing about the messes Ace and Deuce got themselves in and she had zero trust in Jade at first but also... she was intrigued... he tried so hard to keep that polite gentlemanly facade... tried hard to win her over and calm her down so she continued the talk in hopes to understand him more... with time she got more along with him... I feel he also felt she was too stuck up and wanted to teach her a lesson at first but with time her behaviour had him curious too as well as how much she could read a person.
🫣: Who stumbled the most with their feelings around the other? How much did the other person notice?
This one is very slowburn but... Jade was barely noticable aside that he teased her more affectionately and she got red from it so he knew right away she took a liking to him but could play it off and mess with her a little. While she was flabbergasted that anyone think he liked her as more than that.
💕: Who confessed first and how? Did it go as planned or did shenanigans ensue?
I could see them have a joined mountain trip to find some mushrooms together where she helped him dig some up and find them to have a one on one talk... and eventually have a confrontation where she asked hesitantly if he ever be genuine and what he truely think of her just to be hit by a kabedon and a surprised admitance of his feelings that caught her quite of guard and confused but in the end she returned a kiss to him but said he needed to at least tell her a little bit more at times... and the funniest about them is still to me that Jade knows she is often sought after by others so he is that menacing smile behind her when she walks keeping her safe.
✏️: How canon compliant are you with them? Do you stick pretty close or just have fun cause it’s your ship so no one can tell you what to do other wise?
Same as above

i can't stop thinking about wandacarol, and specifically today i'm thinking about wandacarol with 'we saw you from across the bar and really liked your vibe' energy, except they're a power couple - rich sugar mommy and daddy in one way or another
you're out with your college friends kate and cassie, just having a chill fun night at one of your local bars. you take a break from dancing with the two of them to go get another drink, and you catch the piercing gaze of two women tucked away in a booth near the counter. the slightly shorter one with red hair, who's leaned so close to the other she's practically in her lap, whispers something in the blonde's ear, and you watch as they both shoot you smiles
"hey, what's taking you so long?" kate bounds up to you
"nothing" you answer a little too quickly, and you realize you haven't even ordered your drink. kate, ever intuitive, follows where your gaze was captured
"damn, what are wanda and carol doing in a place like this? i know it's one of the nicer-shitty bars but..."
"you know them?"
"they're friends with yelena's sister, and bishop security has done some work for their company. i've only met them in passing, i just know they're very rich and very intense"
the rest of your night goes on, and as you decide to have one last drink for the night, you hear a voice over your shoulder saying, "let us get that for you."
it's no 'can i buy you a drink', it's 'i'm buying you a drink'.
you turn to see wanda and carol, wanda already telling the bartender what to get for them as carol sizes you up. "you're friends with bishop?"
you nod.
"good kid. a lot smarter than she makes out to be." you laugh at that. "i'm gonna get straight to the point. my wife and i think you're cute, and if you'd let us, we would love to take you out to eat sometime. or stay in and eat you out sometime. either works."
"carol!" wanda slaps her wife's shoulder. "i'm sorry, i keep telling her not to use that line."
"has it ever not worked?"
spoiler alert: it works

Pre-BG3 / Random / Ascended Astarion OneShots
Midnight chimes / The Original One Shot
Pre-BG3. You’ve known Astarion for years… or at least, you’ve known of him. You think he’s a rake, but one night he changes your mind. The series "Midnight Chimes" started based off this "prologue."
A Midwinter Carol / The Original One Shot
“A Christmas Carol” but Ascended Astarion is Scrooge. He sees you after your break up 15 years ago, and then has an unexpected nighttime visitor showing him past, present, and future. Will he be convinced to change his ways? The series "Midwinter Carol" started based off this "prologue."
Naughty or Nice?
You’re Ascended Astarion’s little toy in the middle of a party. TLDR; he’s tease and a BDSM dom.

It’s Alright, It’s Okay
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x fem!reader {Could be platonic but that’s not where my brain was}
Setting: Alexandria era
Warnings: Mentions of self harm, struggles with mental illness
Summary: You accidentally allow Daryl to see your scars.
A/N: Yesterday sucked for me for a million different reasons. This is really a way for me to vent more than anything. I’ve never done a y/n before so I’m sorry if I screw it up. No beta, all mistakes are cause I suck.
Tumblr media
“I got the dishes!” You volunteered, probably a little too cheerfully, before collecting the empty plates from the coffee table and shuffling along to the kitchen. You had a dining table but it had never seen a single use.
It had been a rather uneventful day in Alexandria, for which you were thankful. That meant no one had died just trying to complete what used to be mundane tasks for everyday living. Now, since the world had gone to shit, everything was a risk. Just scrubbing the sauce from those dishes could somehow very well lead to your demise. Regardless, you rolled up your sleeves and ran the water.
Daryl had brought home a deer earlier in the day. It was a large buck that would feed the town for a while if the meat was rationed properly. He had been given his own portion, as per usual, for being responsible for the kill. The archer had used the meat grinder in the kitchen at his and Carol’s place, meaning, of course, that Carol had offered and he had shrugged while sharpening a knife.
You had chosen that moment to knock on their door. The silver-haired woman had shown you a cookie recipe but the pantry was out of an ingredient. Carol usually had the things you needed or would at least know something you could substitute.
“Oh, man! My sister used to make venison spaghetti!” You had commented while she had stepped away to get what you needed. You had half a box of angel hair pasta and a can of sauce at your place. “Hey, Dixon?” You continued when he hummed in acknowledgment, “think I could steal just a little of this to make some?”
He had stared at you for a moment before giving a nod. In your excitement, you had thrown him an invite to share the meal just as Carol returned and handed over the ziplock bag with the ingredient you needed for the cookies.
“Alright.” He drawled, sheathing the knife he had been working with.
You quickly invited Carol as well, realizing what you had done, but she smiled knowingly and shook her head. You had at least waited until you were on their porch before slapping a palm to your forehead and calling yourself an idiot.
Still, dinner had gone over without a hitch, even if you did sit side by side on the couch with your plates on your laps. You had laughed when he’d tip back his head to dangle the end of the noodles over his mouth so he could descend the forkful carefully. He had even chuckled when you had dropped half a bite onto your shirt when trying to mimic his actions. It had really been…nice.
Now you stood in your kitchen, rinsing the dishes and placing them in the strainer. You hadn’t heard him enter, but you rarely did. The man moved like a ghost for someone his size.
“S’that from?” His sudden inquiry from just behind you had startled you enough to send the plate clattering into the sink. It didn’t break, thank goodness.
“What’s what from?” You replied, casting him a brief glance before you continued your task. The last dish was quickly rinsed and placed with the others.
“Them scars.”
You were drying your hands on a towel when you suddenly stilled. Fuck. The pale, raised imperfections stood out starkly on your forearms and you instantly felt nausea creeping up your throat, burning at the back of your tongue. “Oh, that’s nothing.” You dropped the towel and quickly started to roll down your sleeves.
But he was faster.
His calloused fingers felt rough against your skin in contrast to his gentle grip around your wrist. You felt electric pulses centering from where he was touching you, but the shame erupting from within you wouldn’t allow you to dwell on how right that felt.
Tears were already forming on your lashes as he studied the myriad of scars littering your arm from wrist to elbow. Some were larger or more jagged than others, but each one contained a story of your past; a hurt you inflicted upon yourself to cope with the hurt done to you by someone else.
“Don’t look like nothin’ to me.”
You had never heard him speak so softly and it made you feel that much worse. Daryl Dixon was anything but soft. For him to pity you must mean you were a real piece of work.
“Please,” you begged, your bottom lip quivering. You were barely holding yourself together. “Just…leave it.”
Those striking blue eyes left your arm to focus on your face. You quickly looked away, lest he see how pathetic you were. He released you and took a step back.
“Thanks for dinner, Y/N.”
You nodded and tried to smile, but never met his gaze before you heard the front door close. You sat on the kitchen floor and cried for hours, finally dragging yourself to the couch a few hours before you’d have to be up for the start of another day.
Tumblr media
Months passed by and things changed, as they often did. You started to find Daryl sitting on your porch steps, cleaning his crossbow or tinkering with some motorcycle part. Most days, you just offered him a greeting and went on your way. Some days, when you were feeling brave or especially curious, you would ask about his weapon. His replies were always short and gruff but never rude or angry.
Eventually, this became the norm. You started bringing him water or lemonade, sitting with him while you drank your tea. Conversations were never lengthy but enough to ensure any silence was comfortable. You started to miss him when he was gone for runs or recruiting. Then you’d open your door one morning to find him perched in what you had long ago deemed ‘his spot’ and the smile that would grace your features was unbidden yet genuine.
One warm summer evening, while you sat together on the top step, your head was laid against his shoulder while his arm was draped around yours. The first time you had tried to lean on him, he had flinched so hard that he had dropped the water glass and you had apologized profusely while cleaning up the mess. At some later point, you both had started dropping your walls, bit by bit, and now here you were.
Still, even with the contentment you found in each other's company, something lingered.
“Daryl?”
“Hmm?”
You could feel him move and knew he was looking down toward where your temple rested against the front of his shoulder. “I’d like to tell you about it now,” you paused for a breath, “if you still want to know.” You waited for him to ask what you were talking about but, as he tended to do, the archer surprised you.
“Ya can tell me if ya wanna talk ‘bout it. Ya don’t hafta though.”
You smiled to yourself but it faded just as quickly. “I did it to myself.” You took another deep breath before continuing, keeping your eyes on the stars in the distant sky. “My life was hard even before the end of the world. I couldn’t cope with the things that happened to me…that were done to me… so I’d find something sharp—” you heard and felt his breath hitch but you couldn’t stop now. “I’d use anything at first. Anything that could make a cut. Eventually I started using a razor blade.” You just let the words tumble out, feeling a tear slide down your cheek. You hadn’t even realized you were crying. “Everything just hurt so bad and it was the only way I could handle it all. It was the only thing that kept the pain at bay. I know it doesn’t make sense but I just… I needed…”
You felt Daryl shift and quickly found yourself pressed against his chest, his arm around your back while his other hand pressed against the back of your head. He had hugged you before but this? This was different. He didn’t say anything but you already knew that he wasn’t good with words, especially when it came to expressing emotion. So he was offering you this comfort.
And you accepted it without a second thought, crying hard while your hands fisted the material of his leather vest. The more you trembled, the tighter he held you. It was as if he was trying to keep you from shaking apart but somehow you knew that even if you did, he would pick up the pieces and put you together again.
After a long while, your tears had all but stopped, leaving you a sniffling, tired mess in his arms. He didn’t seem to care but had loosened his hold slightly and was rubbing small circles over your back while you collected yourself.
Now came the shame. “I’m sorry.” You managed quickly while you pulled away from him. His hands hovered for a moment like you would fall apart again any moment but he soon let them fall onto his knees.
“What for?”
You could see him trying to catch your gaze from the corner of your eye as you wiped angrily at your face. “I know what I did was stupid.”
“It weren’t stupid, Y/N.” Daryl said softly. You remembered when he had used that same softness when he had first seen the proof of your self mutilation. You nodded but didn’t say anything for a while. Eventually, you went back to staring at the stars, even though you could feel him still staring at you.
“I don’t hate them, you know.” You finally said. With a sigh, you braved a glance at him. He was still watching you, expression unreadable but not hard. “My scars.” Daryl nodded for you to continue. “I had a lot of battles and they are proof of that but… I won.” You looked away and shrugged with a smile that didn’t quite reach your eyes. “I’m still here.”
“M’glad.” He replied quickly, drawing your gaze back to him. “That you’re still here.”
You smiled again. It was small but this time, it was genuine. “Me too.” You watched each other for a few moments and you couldn’t help but notice him draw his bottom lip in between his teeth to gnaw at it. As you opened your mouth to ask if he was okay, he pushed himself off the step to stand.
“C’mon.” Daryl jerked his head toward your front door. Your brow knitted in confusion but you stood and crossed the small distance to the door.
“Daryl?”
“I wanna show ya somethin’.” He answered when his name had barely left your lips. Daryl reached in front of you to pull open the screen door and motioned for you to enter first. You could hear the deep, steadying breath he took as he followed you inside and began closing your door. “Ya trusted me with yours. I wanna trust ya with mine.”

Watching Steve simply exist in your small, one room apartment will never get old.
He's sitting on the lid of your toilet, right next to your bright floral shower curtain, and the silly artwork of a bunch of dogs in a bathtub you had framed right above it. Your friend looks even bigger, and taller, in your cramped bathroom, but right at home with your perfumes and lotions and trinkets.
The unusual touch was the suit he was wearing, which was probably worth more than a whole year of rent. The dinner jacket and the dress pants fit perfectly, the white dress shirt underneath hugging his broad frame, a couple of buttons undone to show his chest, adorned with a simple silver chain.
You weren't supposed to look, but your eyes wandered anyway. They wandered through his body, through his face, the slope of his nose, the freckles smattering his skin.
You couldn't help but feel guilty, at times. Steve had been like a sibling to you, the son your mother never had. The Harringtons’ kid, the one she babysat during the week and brought you with her to their big house, too big and too empty for your liking, even as a child.
The two of you played together in their living room, avoiding all the expensive furniture and his mother’s art collection, as your mom would make dinner in the kitchen. You'd spend the summers in their pool, chasing each other with water guns and noodle floaties. You, because you had nowhere else to go, and Steve, because he'd rather be home than travel with his squabbling parents.
Years had passed and nothing really changed. You still hung out and spent the summers together, but you saw Steve through different eyes. No longer the overconfident little boy who likes to hold your hand while you ran and challenge you to do stupid things just to make him laugh, but the man he had become.
Still confident, but earnest and caring. Sweet, even, on his best moments. Your Stevie, your best friend.
Steve, who's now currently watching you go in and out of your bathroom, applying the finishing touches on your makeup, and squeezing into the red dress he'd brought you, while he complained about his college friends.
You chimed in from your bedroom, “They can't be worse than Tommy and Carol, at least.”
He scoffed. “Well, the bar is in hell, then!”
Holding the front part of your strapless dress to your chest with one hand, you prop yourself to the door frame with the other. “I'm glad you finally realized. Now, zip me up, pretty boy.”
If you hadn't been blunt, you'd lose your courage. You'd been trying to close the dress yourself in your room, panicking over it, but realized you wouldn't be able to do it alone. You need another pair of hands, and they're right there.
You miss the blush rising on Steve’s cheeks, after you turn around. It doesn't take long until you feel him standing behind you, the warmth from his body rising a chill up your naked spine. His fingers trail your back first, trying to tickle you.
Slapping his hand away, you chastise him, but you're warm all over now. “Stop, you idiot! We're already late.”
“Sorry! I'm sorry.” Then, he catches your zipper between his fingers, and slowly moves it up, up, up until it's secure at the top. You can still feel the back of his fingers trailing up your back when it's closed, and he puts his hands to your shoulders, moving you to stand in front of your bathroom mirror. “There. The prettiest girl at the party.”
“We're not even there yet. Don't get your hopes up.”
“Well, I know you will be.” He hugs your waist, setting his hands on your tummy, and resting his head on your shoulder. Looking at the two of you in the mirror, you could almost be mistaken for a couple. Young and in love. You sigh.
“You know I'm hardly plus one material, right? I don't… I don't really belong there.” You raise your hand to his hair, messing it up a little. The silver bracelet on your wrist glints in the fluorescent light.
“You belong wherever I am, with me.” Steve’s smile is almost sad on the reflection. “Don’t overthink it. It’ll be over before we know it, ‘kay?”
“‘kay.”
The phantom feeling of his fingers on your back stays with you all night, even when they're intertwined with yours, and even when they find your thigh under the table, as Mr. Harrington gives his guests a speech.

"i'll be home for christmas, you can plan on me. please have snow and mistletoe, and presents by the tree."
— i'll be home for christmas, bing crosby
hawkins, indiana, december 1997
Home for the holidays.
It was all you wanted, at the end of the day. The Californian life—the hot blazing sun, the hustle-and-bustle of being an athlete's wife, the rush of paparazzi flash and glitz and glamor of a famous world—was growing exhaustive.
It was Jane's first Christmas, and a green Christmas tree in the window of a home surrounded by palm trees just seemed...wrong. You wanted a quiet, idyllic holiday in a familiar place with real snow. You wanted home.
And home you got.
"Honey, pass me that garland?" You craned over your shoulder to motion at Steve, who was sitting on the couch bouncing Jane on his lap.
He plucked the strand of silver tinsel garland from the coffee table and flung it your way, which you caught gracefully. Steve quickly went back to bouncing his leg up and down to keep Jane in a constant state of motion, lest she grow teary-eyed and send Steve into a panic. He still struggled to calm her down when she had her fits. He always thought it was because she hated him, but you knew better.
Steve was her entire world.
So, it was for Jane that he agreed to abandon California and come back home to Indiana for the holiday season. He wanted her to have the Christmas she deserved. The Christmas you had growing up, with family and snowfall and no paparazzi around to spy. The Christmas he always wanted.
You tried not to think about the flight back to California set for New Year's Day.
"Look, Janey, Charlie Brown," Steve cooed, pointing toward the television where the soft illustration of A Charlie Brown Christmas played.
Jane blinked her big, round eyes toward the tv screen. She had his eyes exactly: beautiful and wide and full of life. Her hair was starting to fill out a little more now, and you wondered whose she'd have when it started to grow. You wondered a lot these days—if she'd be tall like Steve, if she'd have his hot-headed temper or your cool stubbornness. If she'd have the athletic gene, or if she'd be more inclined to academics.
She had so much life ahead of her, and you couldn't wait to experience it with her.
"Does this look okay?" you asked, stepping back to inspect the tree.
The Indiana house was dusty when you arrived—over eleven months of neglect would do that to a place. You spent an entire day removing sheets and plastic coverings, vacuuming and scrubbing and Windex-ing, lighting candles to make it smell like home—until it finally felt like it was again. It was much smaller than your place back in California, but that's what you liked about it.
It reminded you of the life you once had with Steve all those years ago.
"Looks good, angel," Steve answered, fixing the elastic bow on Jane's head. "Need any help?"
You pursed your lips sideways, tipping your head this and that way to look for empty spots on the tree. At Steve's question, you turned and smiled.
"You want to help Janey put up her first ornament?"
Steve plucked Jane from his lap under her armpits, placing her carefully on his hip once standing. His arm protectively wrapped around her, another hand bracing her neck, Steve headed your way toward the tree. He stopped to kiss your cheek before taking the hand-painted ornament you bought from a local vendor just for Jane. “Baby’s 1st Christmas” sat in delicate gold lettering under a picture of Jane in a red plaid and white ruffled Christmas outfit.
“Is that you, Janey?” Steve held the ornament up toward Jane, who reached for it with chubby hands.
He quickly redirected, adjusting her on his hip. “Where do you want it, baby?”
You inspected the tree again, and pointed toward a branch in the front. “Right here in the front.”
Steve chuckled. “Well alright, but I was talkin’ to Janey, angel.”
Cheeks burning hot, you hid your face behind your hand and giggled. “Oh. Sorry—“
“Nah, nah, c’mere. I’m kidding, honey, gimme a kiss.”
Keeping Jane steady with both hands, ornament protected in steady fingers, Steve dipped down and pecked your mouth under your hand, chuckling at your bashfulness.
“Isn’t mommy pretty, Janey?” he asked your daughter, turning her to face you.
You grinned, cheeks sore with joy, and tickled her tummy. She squirmed and squealed, and the pair of you joined in on her laughter. It was moments like these that your heart ached with contentment.
Steve hoisted Jane a little higher, hovering her in front of the branch he hung her ornament on carefully. He kissed her cheek as he pointed to it.
“Look, Janey,” he whispered.
The moment Jane was born, his voice took on the softest coo. He only spoke to her in the lowest of octaves, gentle and slow. Like he was afraid of bursting her ears or some trance fatherhood seemed to put him through. He was always and entirely mesmerized by her presence. You had to admit yourself, it was a frail and special thing to have half of yourself in your hands. It was a bond that could never be replicated.
You slid against Steve’s side and placed your hand on Jane’s arm, rubbing your thumb soothingly into her onesie. Lowering your cheek on Steve’s shoulder, you sighed contentedly.
“I’m so happy to be home.”
Steve let his head touch down on yours. “Me, too.”
Tumblr media
“Do you think I got her enough?”
“Darling, I think you got her a little too much. She’s only one.”
You sat amidst boxes and bags and half-wrapped presents on the floor in the living room, separated from Steve on the other side of a roll of wrapping paper. His job was sticking on color-coded bows and name tags, and scrawling a sloppy but perhaps more accurate “SANTA,” under sender.
“Well, it makes me feel better to spoil her,” you replied, carefully creasing pink paper around a toy that lit up and sang.
Steve reached toward the coffee table, taking hold of his mug of coffee he refilled a little bit ago. He’d been nursing coffees all day to combat a headache. He didn’t want anything, let alone himself, to get in the way of your day. You’d been anticipating your first Christmas as parents practically all year, and he wanted to be present for it. You once told him that you liked doing things for Jane together. Knowing Steve was your partner through all of it.
“Steve,” you sighed. “Where are your glasses?”
Steve set his coffee down again and swiped a sprinkled sugar cookie from the platter set out for Santa. He crunched out a bite and shrugged.
“Don’t need ‘em.”
“You’re squinting at the tv.”
He immediately turned away from the Christmas special on the television and huffed. “No ‘m not.”
Giggling, you finished taping down the paper on the gift and slid it Steve’s way. “Gold, please. That one’s from ‘mommy and daddy.’”
Steve plucked a gold bow from their bag and peeled off the backing, cookie going soggy between his teeth. He placed it in the center of the present and put the gift tag beside it like you showed him. The Sharpie squeaked open and filled the warm, vanilla-scented living room with pungent acetone.
When he was done, he pulled the rest of the cookie into his mouth and capped the marker. The present slid your way and was precariously placed under the tree moments later. Steve crawled over and slapped your ass as you leaned down like he’d done the past ten presents before—he just couldn’t help himself.
“Want some more coffee?” you asked, coming back to the makeshift gift-wrapping station on the rug. “Or cookies? I can make those snickerdoodle—“
“Baby, sit down,” Steve cooed. “I’m fine. You’re gonna stress yourself out.”
"Am not. I'm perfectly calm." You frowned, tucking your legs in when you settled down again.
You were wearing a flannel pajama set with heart-shaped buttons that Steve went crazy over for some reason. He said he loved seeing you ‘all cozy’ and adorable.
Steve had an old, faded Nike sweatshirt on and a pair of plaid pajama pants you bought him a few years ago. He smelled like laundry detergent and leftover pine soap. He washed his hair this morning, and now it was bouncy and gorgeous. He cut it short when Jane’s hands started to snatch at anything that came close enough. You loved the way it sharpened his jaw and freed up his eyes.
"Stop staring," he scolded playfully, reaching out to nudge your knee with a socked foot. "I have all these bows and no presents."
Cheeks burning, you grabbed the next present from the pile to wrap and looked down. "I wasn't staring."
"Sure."
"Whatever. Surprised you can even see me from over there," you sniped.
Steve's head tipped back with laughter. "Oh, angel, you're so cute."
Huffing, you glared up at him through your lashes and kicked his bow pile. "You were supposed to say I was naughty."
Steve's mouth quirked into a grin, and he dropped all bows and cookies and coffee in sight to press up on his knees and crawl close. "Ohh, I see. Well, then you're very naughty, honey."
He whispered his salacious words against your mouth, hands pressed on either side of your lap to crowd you in. You couldn't help the grin that broke out on your face, a certain giddiness sweeping in your chest. It was good to know that even after all these years—after all the infant throw-up and diaper blow-outs, and tantrums that had you crying at three a.m and shouting at Steve nonsensically in the aftermath—that you could still have moments like these.
The kiss was warm and languid, sweetened with sugar cookie crumb and hazelnut creamer Steve suddenly took a liking to last week. You bought it on a whim and he'd feel horrible if he didn't use it. It made his teeth ache a little, but if it meant you would chase his tongue the way you were right now, he'd put it in every damn drink he had.
"Maybe," Steve mused, pulling away from your lips to fit his head under your jaw and mouth at your throat. "I'll punish you for that later."
You giggled, squirming away from his hot breath tickling your flesh. "O-okay."
"Okay?" Steve grinned against your neck, kissing a pulse point aching for his attention.
"Okay, okay, okay! Don't distract me, Steven, we have to wrap."
You squirmed and kicked your feet and Steve relented amusedly. The pair of you went back to your respective tasks: tape whirring and clicking, wrapping paper crinkling, plastic bows and ribbons rustling. The soft, tinkling music of a claymation Christmas film soothed your thumping ache for Steve—which would have to wait until holiday duties were done.
Steve propped his elbow on the coffee table and bit one of the sharp edges off a red star cookie. He munched quietly as he watched you wrap with careful precision.
"You know," he said, suddenly much quieter, pondering. "I think...I always wanted this."
You pulled off a small piece of tape and pressed it down on the box in front of you. "Wanted what, baby?"
Steve's eyes snapped to your face at the endearment. His heart was in his throat.
"This. Playin' Santa...sneakin' around while she sleeps so she wakes up all excited. And I just keep thinkin'...I can't wait for when she's older and she's really surprised, and her face lights up and—I just never realized how bad I wanted this until...now, I guess."
Your hands stilled around the edges of shiny paper, eyes rounding on your husband's pink-cheeked face. You did your best to conceal the tears pooling at your lash line as you scrambled your way over to him. God damn those mom hormones that made you weepy.
"Oh, Steve," you sighed, climbing into his lap. His hands slid into the curves of your waist with ease. "I feel so lucky to be doing this with you. Making a home, raising our daughter...you make me the luckiest woman in the world, Steve Harrington."
He raised his hand to your cheek and brushed a strand of hair knocked astray behind your ear. His thumb stroked your cheek with care.
"Always been too good f' me, angel," he murmured. "But we made somethin' perfect together, didn't we? Our girl, she's...everything."
Fingers fiddling with the tail end of his hair at the nape of his neck, you nodded your agreement. "Yeah, we did."
Steve kissed your nose and then huffed. "What're you doin' t' me, baby? I'm goin' soft."
You popped a kiss on his cheek and grinned. "There's glitter on your shirt. You've been goin' soft for a while, handsome."
